Alright guys, Weaver gave us quite a few revelations in the latest adventure.

It looks like the "they are patients trapped in some medical facility" theory is more or less confirmed. We have an ongoing meta-mystery of whether William Murdoch was a real person from whose poem "The Metal Glen" Weaver is drawing from, or an elaborate hoax that Weaver created to fuck with us.

Tom and Ruby finally came clean with each other, and now that we can control Tom directly, we can only assume that the "main character plot armor" will only over ONE character at a time. Weaver confirmed after the thread that Tom would have died if we had smashed the glass case and set off the security system.

And we confirmed that the Bear zombie and Stitches were one and the same.

"The "Plague Doctor" may be considered a mask nowadays, but in the old times it was a sad reality.

The mask with the long beak is made to keep in it substances and aromas that it was believed would have protected the doctor from getting contaminated from the plague."

Weaver already admitted he wrote the poem, lurk moar. Murdoch is a real person, but absolutely nothing indicates that he had anything to do with any glens, metal or not.

Thank you for not calling him "Spade", OP.

Given that the last session showed that the zombies are full characters, that the "plant" zombie is also one of the characters? Maybe that one in between Red and Stitches?

the poet william murdoch is definately real, look at the wikipedia article, then the edit history, too old to have been set up by weaver. then again, the article is rather short, so it is perfectly possible that he is obscure enough to have poems which arent on the internet.

on the other hand it does seem slightly odd that an anon "just happened" to remember or be reading the poem at the time of ruby and then to see the paralells. most likely either weaver has made it up, or he is in fact using it for some inspiration and decided to tell us about it as a hint and to create more intrigue and interest
>> Anonymous 01/06/09(Tue)15:38 No.3330763

Just look at his name: WEAVER

WEAVER; as in

3. to form by combining various elements or details into a connected whole: to weave a tale; to weave a plan.
4. to introduce as an element or detail into a connected whole (usually fol. by in or into): She wove an old folk melody into her latest musical composition
>> Anonymous 01/06/09(Tue)15:38 No.3330764
"Spade" is more intuitive than "Ace" for the symbol. The only reason you went to Ace is because you saw the pattern of Animal Crossing characters.

And if that upsets you enough that you have to thank people when they don't do it, you really need to grow up and get a fucking life.

P.S. I'm going to call him Spade in every thread, now.
>> Anonymous 01/06/09(Tue)15:39 No.3330773
There is a question as to whether Red actually killed Ruby in the video, and why.

He may have tried to kill her for altruistic reasons, to save her from Ace, or whatever else her fate was. He may have killed her for selfish reasons, simply to thwart Ace. The video, and Ruby's memory of Ace placing her in the coffin, indicate that she may not have died, and that Ace lied on the medical reports for either good or nefarious reasons.

Two possible theories: They are in a medical facility run by horribly unethical doctors who are experimenting on them to test whatever this mutative disease is, and Ace is a secret ally trying to help them. Alternatively, the medical facility had good intentions (supported by the medical report implying that Ruby entered the program voluntarily), but either "something went wrong" (loss of containment) and bad things are afoot in the facility, or Ace is secretly conducting unethical experiments.

Something to think about:

The ace of spades (also known as the spadille[1]) is commonly thought of as the highest-ranking card in the deck of playing cards, although the actual value of the card varies from game to game. In popular myth and folklore, it is also known as the
"death card"
.

Wait, didn't he post that poem like 10 threads ago? I thought he was just joking that William Murdoch wrote the poem because a person by the same name invented the Pneumatic tube system, which is also present in the story.

If you've ever read one of the POET William Murdochs' poems, you'd notice right away that it wans't him that wrote it.

What I assume is that the facility has the ability to cure otherwise incurable or fatal injuries/diseases, however, in doing so it turns the patient into an abomination.

As it was Red's hand that activated the video, this could be seen as evidence that Red was an employee, but on the other hand, Red was just as trapped as Ruby and Tom, as we saw by his suicide. It is possible he was an employee who later became a prisoner, possibly because of his crime against ruby. We can't yet know the motivation for Red's crime, nor whether he actually killed Ruby, or just injured her, and Ace marked her as being dead.

Ace is an interesting character. So far, his intentions seem good: due to his marking Ruby as deceased, and the note in the medical room that read "despite [Ace]'s best intentions..." we can conclude that he is a staff member, probably a doctor. Whether he is doing this because he genuinely wants to help, or because he wants to do crazy experiments, we do not know.

Stitches has recovered from being a bloody mass with little more than a spine and head. Now that he has recovered, he is still able to talk and has some kind of conscience, showing the power of the facility.

The Hound Zombie and F are probably the two other characters.

WHY is Stitches a horrible monster?
We don't know yet.

Whatever is wrong with Ruby, she had it "from birth."

Or, the facility may have been designed to treat rare diseases, and lost containment of the mutation disease. Ruby's third eye didn't manifest until she was scratched by the infected Hound.

ITT: Peopling being strung along by another drawfag.

Weaver is making this story, you're all just along for the ride. The fact that he admitted to the possibility of killing off Tom was brought on by the pressure from accusers of "railroading" and bitchers that didn't get their choices picked. In all likelyhood HE doesn't want to kill of Tom and his "spoiler" that a certain action would have done so only shows that he would like you all to shut the fuck up while he just makes pretty blood filled pictures and you all make him feel important.

The fact that he has a fairly comprehensive cast of characters already drawn out further provides evidence to this theory. He has planned out what he wants to happen and he will probably not stray far from his outline. You want to feel special, but you're really only along for the ride.
>> I apologized on 4chan 01/06/09(Tue)16:27 No.3331214

If that's true then he's the best Tripfag that /tg/ has ever known.
Also, I've been reading the threads whilst playing Umineko (ask /jp/) the music set's the tone rather well.
Not suprising, as they have the same sort of genre. Except Umineko is set in a mansion, and Ruby and Tom are each a damn sight smarter than Umineko's full cast of 18 combined.

I mean, if a person is going about killing people, and the only way to stop her is to find her HIDDEN JEW GOLD then I would *maybe* consider trying to find her goddamn gold ASAP as opposed to spending the evening in the parlour with a Shotgun.
Is it just me?

Also, now that I think about it, Weaver's been pretty good about following our instructions, even when it made no sense, like making the horrific smoothy for instance.

No proof Weaver meant it to Animal Crossing. He's just throwing us bones with names and references. You've fallen into the trap most human beings are prone to: creating patterns where there are none, confirming your pre-existing ideas with after-the-fact 'evidence' and reasoning, and succumbing to a false consensus bias. YOU made it Stitches, YOU gave Red his name and Animal Crossing inspiration with all the talk of Player One and the game, and YOU called him Ace just to further confirm your own stupid theory.
His name is Spade. It makes more objective sense.

When had Red tried to kill her? (Hullucinations and Dream Sequences aside) He dicked about with her yes, but... Oh wait, he did didn't he, actually battered her to death with his cane. Assuming she was dead when Ace found her, and he didn't just repair her and surgically implant a third psychic eye in her forhead whilst he was at it.
Actually given Ruby's memories of Ace putting her in the coffin in the first, that theory seems more plausible.

It's pretty clear that the plot for this solidified about halfway through. That is when the cast listing first appeared. The calls of people who were getting tired of LOST-syndrome seem to have led to a less supernatural setting. And Weaver has let us do we've done plenty of stupid things (the hand in the tube, progressing the plot without fully exploring a room, running back and forth more often than necessary, etc). The only "railroading" I've really seen is Ruby's refusal to do patently stupid, macabre, or lewd things. Which is a good thing.

Also, it's pretty easy to tell the places where Weaver is following directions and where he is following a premade plot. The video from the hand scanner was clearly pre-prepared... though Weaver knew that we had been trying to get the fucking scanner working for ages.

>No proof Weaver meant it to Animal Crossing.

All the characters are named for AC characters and are at least somewhat visually based on them. The coincidence of a patchwork bear named Stitches AND a space-wearing bird named Ace is a bit too strong to simply overlook by itself, and given the origin of these character designs before they were revamped, I'd say the connection is so glaringly obvious you'd have to be blind to miss them.

There, now let the grown-ups go back to talking.

I won't say we're stuck on the express train, but we're definitely on firmer tracks than before. Read the earlier chapters, and Ruby/Tom did random stuff and walked through random rooms before figuring things out. Now look at the last thread: There has not been one post that did not advance the plot.

Before, we'd backtrack through a room or two and see if stuff worked or if we missed something. Now, every "decision" we made was the right one.

I personally don't mind, the story is interesting and I like seeing it go along, but you are kidding yourself if you think either Ruby or Tom have a significant chance of death. They've both got more plot armor than Jesus.

>The only "railroading" I've really seen is Ruby's refusal to do patently stupid, macabre, or lewd things. Which is a good thing.

Weaver seems to be going on the basis of choosing actions which Ruby is "most likely to take herself". Which brings us to the puzzling conclusion that Ruby put a severed hand in a mail tube. For no reason.

Or it's just an easy way to draw a rabbit and a cat, or the designs and names were stolen by Weaver but never intended to be connected, or the designs and names were subconsciously inspired by those. Everything after -- WE called it Stitches, not Weaver, WE called it Ace, not Weaver, WE wouldn't shut up about AC before Red was introduced -- follows from OUR discussion of the initial percieved pattern.

Right! He intentionally named each character after an Animal Crossing character and built them on designs that specifically took place IN Animal Crossing, but no connection was intended.

Ace was always Ace. Stitches was always Stitches. It was merely a fortunate coincidence in my favor people took to calling him that without any provocation.

I'm only human.

I know my story and my means of telling it both have their flaws, and all I can really do is try my best to present an entertaining and enjoyable experience.

I admit that that particular example is certainly more of a "railroad" than I normally try to follow, and I did that intentionally because I wanted to order that local series of events so that Ruby wouldn't already have Tom with her when she faced her first abomination. I realize that some of the solutions may have been realistically feasible, but I can also rationalize that this is not a perfectly-realistic simulation and that many exceptions are made for the sake of the game and its medium.

I can offer that on the whole I do my best to avoid railroading, and while the story has become more tightly-focused, it's mostly due to the sheer increase in volume and speed that more readers have brought to it, rather than a brute-forcing of my idea of the story's progression onto its actual path.

I can tell you now that I really do try to avoid railroading and give players freedom of action. I can tell you that Tom really did skirt death and that I don't have a definitive ending or even progression in mind, and want the players to explore that for themselves. If you don't want to believe that, there's nothing more I can really say that will change your mind.

In the end, I try my best, and that's all I really can do.

Man, if Tom has a MANLY PHYSIQUE, then Ace is built like a fucking tank.

If that's the case then I think we can already guess who at least one of other cast members is.

Well, it would seem I can't find the comic, but it was a Female Goat called Nan.

Fuck where was that comic?

I don't think it's 'Living' quarters, as Living would be visible between the blood splatters. Probably 'Head' or 'Crew'

>Man, if Tom has a MANLY PHYSIQUE, then Ace is built like a fucking tank.
I bet Tom could still take him.
Honestly, Ruby's kicked ass in the heat of an adrenaline-fueled survival rush, albeit with not one but TWO very lethal environmental hazards in her favor.
I bet Tom could take Ace.

And even if he couldn't it'd still be fun to see him try.

Thanks. That's the one. And by that comic we can assume that if Nan *IS* a monster, were going to have a repeat of the Dog-plant-monster fight as Ruby beats the holyfuck out of her/it.

Ace has a large beak, made for ripping and tearing.

Tom has a crowbar, made of very dense metal, made for KNEECAPPING PEOPLE.

He also has an extra pair of arms. If he manages to secretly arm these appendages as well, he could end up doing a The O impression on Ace's ass.

Except according to the poem, there are multiple birds. Meaning we could have non-bulky birds who are much more reasonably sized than Ace?

Tiny Derringers for his tiny derringer arms! I LOVE IT.

Besides did we not ask about dual weilding possiblities when we saw those?

Why would Nan be in it? Are you making this assumption based on the comics? There are a bunch of them, some don't even have ruby in them. That's not a very strong argument.

>Except according to the poem, there are multiple birds.

Like perhaps, the one that Red blew-up when he pulled a Syrus the Virus? Also, we've seen a couple of birds, but only one of them thus far with the Ace of Spades on their clothes.
>> Anonymous 01/06/09(Tue)17:32 No.3331762
Is there an archive of these comics?

>Like perhaps, the one that Red blew-up when he pulled a Syrus the Virus?

Confirmed by Weaver to be the same one barging in at the end.

NOT confirmed to be the one with the spadeshirt, however, so multiple birds is still rather plausible.

He was wearing a slightly different outfit -- the collar was emphasized, too.

My theory is that Ruby's "death" was the definitive turning point for the station, when it went from "everything under control" to "oh god no". That's when everything started to go wrong.
Before that, there was a semblance of normalcy. Hell, in the video, Red shows his teeth, but they're REASONABLY SIZED! Look, his mouth doesn't even extend very far at all!
It's possible Back then Ace just wore a different suit than he does now.
Also it's very likely he's a horrible abomination against God now.

CROSSING PALS is a specific series, not the same thing as the Player 1 strips.

This is so much like the Cube movies.

I fucking hate those movies. They creep me out and most of all piss me off with their sadistic death traps. I remember that all of those trapped inside the cube (which is also underwater) AND they all volunteered to enter the project. Some volunteered unvolontarily, but eh.
>> Anonymous 01/06/09(Tue)17:59 No.3332017
>the cube (which is also underwater) AND they all volunteered to enter the project
That's only true in Cube Zero, the weakest of the three Cube movies.

Originally, though they leave it intentionally ambiguous, the first Cube movie was made with the intention that the Cube was an extraterrestrial device -- some kind of alien's test, or trap.
>> Anonymous 01/06/09(Tue)18:03 No.3332064
cube was the only good one out of that, cube 2 was incredibly shit, cube 0 was more compelling to me.

To all the people screaming railroading, this is NOT a role-playing game.
there are MULTIPLE people saying what to do, Weaver will of course choose the action that's the one that will advance the plot.
Weaver is trying to keep this as interesting as possible for everyone involved, if the main cast dies, it won't be overly interesting, now will it ?

Frankly, I'm disgusted by your sense of entitlement, "wawawa, I'm not deciding every action.", FUCK YOU

Theory: In Weaver's official cast lineup (OP's pic), there's room for a total of seven characters, and we know Ruby is test subject #7, so it's reasonable to infer the others' numbers.
Whatever the hell this facility is trying to do, they've been slowly getting better at it: #2 (Stitches) is a walking freakshow and #4 (Red) has severe psychosis and INFINITE PLANE OF TEETH, but #5 is just unusually oversized, Tom has the relatively minor affliction of an extra pair of arms, and Ruby was perfectly normal for a little while. And even now her mutation is easily concealed.

Judging by this, #1 would logically be the most seriously fucked up. I bet it resembles a shoggoth.
>> Anonymous 01/06/09(Tue)18:25 No.3332286

Settle down buster-boy. We're not going after your beloved Weaver, nor his habits. It's a genuinely interesting plot. All we're doing is pointing out that it's more us listening to Weaver tell a story than participating in an RPG, which you agreed to, so there's no problem.

If the main cast dies, then Weaver improvises, as any good DM should. Or maybe just BAD END, CONTINUE Y/N.

Pop some Valium and calm down a bit please.
>> Anonymous 01/06/09(Tue)18:37 No.3332398

#1 is Stitches. Ace is not a test subject.
