"You sure you want to do this?""Food ain't gonna just magically appear. We're gonna have to find it sooner or later."Jason is wearing a lacrosse helmet and is weilding a hammer. Garrett doesn't have anything except the broken, pointed handle of a mop that he'd found in the laundry room. Aside from their backpacks, neither has much in the way of 'armor.' "Maybe I should go with you. Or you can at least take the baseball bat." Jason puts his hand on your shoulder. "Someone's gotta stay in the dorm and keep everyone else in line. And carrying more stuff is just going to slow us down. If things get that bad, an extra bat won't make much of a difference, I don't think."Garrett grabs the door handle. "It'll take about 15 minutes to get down, and 15 to get back. We aren't going to stay out longer than we have to, so be ready on the lookout in about half hour."Sunlight floods the stairwell as Garrett pulls the door open and the two rush out. A single figure standing on the sidewalk turns and lets out a rasp before Garrett runs the improvised spear through its eyesocket. You close the door and take a deep breath.Your name is Tyler Lockwood, and the world ended about a week ago.(1/3)
>>32840379You're not sure of the details - Danny has been paying more attention to the news than any of the rest of you - but a flu-like illness appeared in southeast Asia at the begining of April. The news stations (back before they stopped broadcasting) were calling this the Alpha Strain. Everyone thought it was just a particularly virulent form of the flu. It wasn't until something like 1/3 of the dead began to "come back to life" that we realized it wasn't normal Influenza. Then things got complicated. The Alpha strain spread like a normal flu, and not everyone who caught it died. Most people got better, but apparently, they just became carriers. The virus, or whatever it is, learns to hide from your immune system. If the virus does kill them, it sometimes mutates into the Beta Strain, which reanimates the body. The Beta strain is only transmitted by direct bodily fluid contact, usually when the corpse bites someone. Being directly introduced to the Beta strain is always fatal, and will result in reanimation every time. Or so you're told.It took the world's scientists and doctors about two weeks to straighten this whole mess out, and by that time it was too late to stop it from spreading. The federal government went into crisis control mode. About a week ago, you heard that the Army and National Guard had secured power plants and utilies around the country, with the official mesage of "wait inside until the cure is discovered."The cure hasn't been discovered, but at least the lights are still on.(2/3)

You're an RA for one of the dorms in West Halls, a position you only signed up for because you heard you would get to keep any booze you confiscated from the underage underclassmen. As a result, however, you're pretty much the only authority figure left among the half dozen freshman who are still here. Well, at least until Garrett and Jason get back.Turns out that once you bar the first floor, your dorm room is surprisingly secure from the corpses outside. The stairwells on either end of the building lead to the outside. The doors are pretty thick and open outwards, so it'd take quite a few of the walkers to knock it down, and it doesn't look like they're capable of coordinating. >>32840632You make your way up the stairwell to the fourth floor, where everyone left in the building has taken to congregating. You're not sure why, but the conventional wisdom is that the zombies can't get up the stairs very quickly, which makes the top floor the safest place. It's convenient at least, you were the RA of the 4th floor anyway.Danny Chen is one of the students who hasn't seemed to find a clique to join by the time spring semester rolled around. Most of the other students on the floor had either joined fraternities or clubs. Danny and Claire are the two only ones who still attend your Residence Hall activities that Student Affairs made you keep doing. He's Korean (you think), but his family lived in Erie for at least a few years. The door to Room 402 is ajar, though out of courtesy, you knock on the door frame and stand in the doorway. Danny looks up. "Oh, hey Tyler. Jason and Garrett out now?""Yeah. They're going to try to raid some of the stores on State Street. Hopefully find some food or bottled water. It'll be about half an hour, or so. Any word from the outside?""Lots of words. Little information." Danny frowns. "I found some pretty gruesome footage from Philly."Back when they thought the disease was just the flu, most cities set up triage tents with the hope of quarantining the sick together, as the hospitals were overflowing. Philadelphia didn't have its act together, and only officially announced the treatment stations this week. Except the messaging got botched. They actually intended that it be refugee camps to protect those still uninfected. As a result, about everyone in the city tried to go that way. There were unconfirmed reports of police in riot gear firing on the people trying to get in. True reports, apparently.(1/2)
>>32841025"Isn't Troy's family from Philly?"Danny nods. "His older brother called him when shit hit the fan, said he'd come for him. That was.." Danny counts on his hand, "4 days ago." Troy's seemed either incredibly optimistic or in denial from what you can tell. You hope it's the former, but your gut says the latter."What about a cure?""Nobody seems to have anything. Some scientists aren't even sure that the Alpha and Beta strains are the same disease." Looks like you're going to be on your own. You look at your watch. You've got about 15 min before you'll need to lookout for Garret and Jason.>You've got time to do one more thing in the meanwhile, pick one of the above, remaining.

"Let's just take it one issue at a time." He's right, though. Oh well. You decide to check out some of the other dorm rooms. The apocalypse constitutes a grave enough emergency to enter other student's rooms, right? You head back to yours and grab the key and your baseball bat. You barricaded the first floor with Jason a while ago. Aside from the thick doors to the outside, the only apparent entrance points into the building are the windows on the ground level. You figure it's better to be safe that way.The dorm is co-ed, but the administration still put guys and girls onto different floors.>Check out the 3rd floor. There is a slightly unpleasant smell, but you truthfully couldn't tell that the guys floor didn't smell like BO and old, stale things to begin with. You put your hand on the doorknob and try it. This one isn't even locked. You throw the door open and step back, ready to swing with the bat.Looks like this room is empty at least. Someone clearly left this room in a hurry. The bed has unmade sheets, and books and papers are scattered across the floor. There's even some cash sitting on the desk. Not that it'd do you much good now. You check the obvious places. The closet is filled with dirty laundry. The minifridge is empty, but in the freezer, there is a half-full fifth of Smirnoff 151. You make a note to ask Danny if anyone on the internet had luck with Molotov cocktails. After several more minutes of searching, you find little else of use in this room. You're about to check your watch when you hear Jason's voice from outside "Tyler! Let us in!" Shit. You leap down the stars and push open the door. The stench hits you immediately.(1/2)

Tears start streaming down Jason's face."It's... gonna be ok. You've got at least 6 hours. Come back upstairs and we'll make you comfortable. Heck, I even found some vodka downstairs. Would you like that?" You're not sure he heard you.You turn to the girl, She can't be more than 16. She's crouched in the fetal position behind the steps. You stretch out your hand "My name's Tyler. I'm not going to hurt you. What's your name?""Sarah." "Sarah, are you ok? Have you been bitten?" She shakes her head. Garrett and Jason for this girl? Shitty deal. Besides, Jason's the one who made the sacrifice, and he came back with some water. He should get the say in how it ends."You scan the three of them. Troy is looking at Craig suspiciously, and you can't get a read on Peter, but Craig at least seems to back down. You turn back to Jason."Ok man. What do you want to do? Would you like to come back up with us?"Jason nods feebly. You grab his arm and pull him up, escorting him past the guys on the stairs. "Peter, grab the stuff, would you?" (1/2)
>>32842754You put Jason up in your room. He tells you that the supply run actually went without incident. They were making their way back to the dorm when they saw half a dozen zombies surrounding a tree on campus, with a girl up in the branches. Garrett had argued that they needed to rescue her. She'd be dead otherwise. They killed most of the zombies without problem; they were too focused on Sarah. But the noise apparently attracted too many more. By the time Sarah got down, they were surrounded. That's when Jason got bitten. You make smalltalk for a little while. Jason starts coughing and sweating profusely. After a few hours, everyone is packed into your room. Everyone except Craig. It's clear that Jason's circling the drain. "Don't hesitate." He says weakly. "I don't want anyone else to die because of me." You assure him you won't.Eventually, his breathing slows, and then stops. You order everyone out of the room, before closing the door, dragging his body onto the floor and impounding his skull with two quick strikes of the hammer. Everyone else looks down at the floor for a few seconds, before looking back up at you."Well? What the fuck are you looking at me for? It's getting dark. We'll need to settle in for the night. Troy and Peter, I want you guys to check both entrances. Make sure we're secure. We've got fewer people now. Need to make sure the building is safe.""You got it boss." What were you doing climbing a tree in the middle of campus?"You'd feel sorry for the poor girl, were you not still pissed at loosing Garrett and Jason for it. Turns out her father caught the Alpha Strain late. He only died a few days ago, and didn't reanimate. Before he died, they heard on the local radio station that Beaver Stadium had become a refugee camp of sorts. She had stayed in her house near town until the food ran out and was making her way there. Came across some zombies on campus, tried to get into a building - it was locked - she panicked and climbed a tree."Beaver Stadium? They might have their own generators out there." You're not sure, but the prospect of safety in numbers does sound appealing. But that would mean the group of you trekking about a mile across campus. The sun had set for thirty minutes or so when Danny comes rushing over. "Uh.. guys. I think you're gonna want to see this." He leads you to the other end of the building, into room 428 and points out the window, though you don't need him to. You can hear it.Across the street, you see one of the fraternity houses. All the lights are on, and music is playing. They're having a party? You can see that they've crudely barricaded the windows on the first floor near the front door, mostly by piling furniture. They clearly have attracted the attention of any of the nearby zombies as well, as in the dim light, you see several shambling up the street."Did you know Sig Nu still had people in it?""They kept quiet until now. Not to mention we barely have the food to feed us."You guys watch for a little while. There are four zombies on the porch scraping on doors or windows, and several more approaching along the street. At one point, a guy climbs out a second floor window onto the roof of the porch, unzips his pants and begins laughing as he urinates on a zombie below him.Danny sticks his head out the window. "What are you doing?" He yells. The frat brother looks up and waves, "Party at the end of the world, man!" He lets out a drunken laugh. "Out of food, my family's probably already dead. He goes to turn around, but then slips on the shingles, sliding off the roof, directly on top of the zombie below him.Claire gasps, covering her mouth as frat boy scrambles up and the zombies at the door turn on him. Which means that we can afford to stay here for about a day before we're going to need to find something else. Danny, have you heard anything about the stadium?""Like... if it's really a safe camp? I, uh, think so. A couple people were still updating facebook and twitter yesterday. I saw a few mentions of the stadium. It seems like it's safe enough once you're on the inside, I don't know about how hard it'll be to get to." Well then it's probably worth scouting out at least."Does anyone know how to hotwire a car?""I am thinking that that is not such a good idea." Everyone turns to Peter. "The highways are certainly uh... clogged. Everyone who tried to go, everyone who tried to come, still stuck there."(1/2)

Tow trucks weren't working this past week. We'd just get a few miles down the road and have to ditch the car anyway. Not to mention it's highly likely that there's going to be zombies around any cars still on the road.""You really think we'd be better off on foot?"Danny shrugs, "Probably. Seems to me that the place that's going to have the zombies is one that had the fewest people. If we're going through the woods, we probably won't run into many.""We should at least check out the stadium. If it's safe, then this discussion isn't really necessary, is it?" Try says. Claire and Sarah are nodding slightly at this.Ok, who goes to check out the stadium?>Just me. I don't want to risk anyone else in this.>Troy. He's a third string wide out for the football team, which means he's probably in the best shape.>Craig. At the very least, if he gets eaten, that's one less potential issue.>Some combination of people (write in)

>>32844664>Some combination of peopleUs and Troy.
>>32844719>>32844729>>32844738"Ok. Troy. Let's scout the stadium. Get ready. I want to leave before 10. Everyone else? Take stock of supplies. Gather and condense anything you want to keep. Ok... uh... break!"As everyone files out of your room, you grab Danny, and tell him quietly. "Keep an eye on Craig, will you?" Danny nods. and leaves. Time to prepare to scout.====Ok guys, I have to head out for a few hours. I'll be back later tonight, maybe 8 or 9 EST. Is it worth archiving this now, or would it stay on the board until then?
>>32844664>Me and Troy It'd be best not to go alone while in small numbers so we wouldn't attract too much attention
What exactly did Craig do wrong?
>>32844843Uhhh. You could archive it just to be safe, I suppose. Then update it if it is still on the board.
>>32844920I'm not sure if it has anything with Craig having done something wrong, but his loose temper and self-control.
>>32844920With the exception of the new girl, all of the characters know each other from before the apocalypse. Basically Craig doesn't like the MC.
>>32845023>>32844950Mostly this. He's generally selfish and doesn't really respect the authority of the MC the way everyone else does. He's not actually done anything dangerous or to hurt anyone, but then again, Garrett and Jason had also been there to keep tabs on him as well.
>>32845110>doesn't really respect the authority of the MC
Guess we're not continuing tonight.
Sorry guys, things got away from me. I'll either start up again tomorrow around noon EST or later in the week. The thread's been archived on suptg, so we'll continue where we left off.
