PREVIOUS THREADS: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Magic+Shophttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2EeMB6tRMgIn the world of Valaer, the Battle of Tirinia changed everything. That was 680 years ago. Here lies the human Kingdom of Therindel - less a Kingdom than a confederacy of lordships, duchies, principalities, city-states, et cetera - banded together under the constant threat of attack from the mysterious Wood Elves of the eastern land of Xalfacia. For many centuries, these lords and rulers have bickered amongst each other for the right to succeed the King who fell in battle at Tirinia against the Elves. And now the Kingdom of Therindel is a veritable hotbed of adventure, riches, and loot to be enjoyed by adventurers from all over the world. From the lost cities of the Elves, to the grand old monsters of old, to the buried treasures of those who came before. And the mightiest treasure of them all, the Golden Fountain! Said to one wish in exchange for dropping a coin into its clear waters. It is the treasure all adventurers seek! From the strong, to the cunning, to the daring, those who seek adventure seek the Golden Fountain! You are not one of those people.Wandering Spirits are known for the cloak they wear, the black silhouette of their smoky bodies within, their glowing white eyes, and how much they are tied to the mortal world. They wander the earth, in search of business to finish so that they may finally pass on into the afterlife. You are a Wandering Spirit. With naught but your cloak, a walking stick, and a single gold coin, you are on a journey. You are in search of the Golden Fountain.
>>32695056You stand by the side of the road, waiting for Marigold Merriweather to finish her sales to a traveling Orc merchant. Their inventory rifts float near them as they settle things over the pricing of one of Miss Merriweather’s treasures: an Elven knife. Not in good condition, the blade has been scratched and the hilt chewed to bits, but Elven weaponry get a good price regardless of condition. The Orc says, “I’ll give you twenty, yes?”Miss Merriweather frowns. “Thirty.”“Twenty-two,” said the Orc. “And I’ll throw in…” he reached into the rift and pulled out an extremely well-made red wool scarf. “This scarf. Pure wool made by the great Tailors of my country-““I’LL TAKE IT!” Merrigold took the twenty-five gold and the scarf excitedly. The Orc grunted as he zipped the rift up, and then went on his way with his packmule and dwarf bodyguard. Merrigold excitedly walks over to you, already having wrapped the scarf around her neck. “I’ve got us a great deal, Mister Cloak!”You nodded at that. As a Wandering Spirit, outwardly expressing things was a little difficult but you could appreciate that Miss Merriweather was at least happy. The two of you have been traveling together for only a few days, but her company has already made the trip to the Golden Fountain that much more exciting in a sense. She had even taken to calling you “Mister Cloak”. It was a strange nickname, but endearing nonetheless.“That is very good, Miss Merriweather,” you say.“Oh please!” Miss Merriweather smiled as the two of you began on your way. “Call me Marigold! Miss Merriweather was my mother.” Her smile drops at that. “And I’d hate to feel old.”“How old are you now?” you ask.Marigold pouts at you. “That is a rude question, Mister Cloak!”...

He’s only about forty-seventh in the line of succession of course.”“Is he a good Lord?” you ask.Miss Merriweather shrugs. “From what I hear, the recent drought and the pestilence on their crops have made times tough in Count Caul’s lands. He’s abroad in the Orc lands too, so… yeah, times are tough.” She tilts her head to you. “What do you think, Mister Cloak?”You look up at the sky. Can we stop off at Caul’s Landing for lunch though? And maybe supplies?”“If you feel they are needed, Miss Merriweather, then sure.” You gesture your ghostly arm forward. “Unlike me, I do understand that you humans require sustenance and rest every now and again.”Miss Merriweather frowns. “I hope I’m not slowing you down or anything.”“You are,” you say. She frowns deeper. “But I am glad to have your company.” She smiles again, muffling the bottom of her face into her new scarf.Suddenly, you hear something. You both stop. Miss Merriweather says, “Is that squawking?” You look around, nothing but trees and the sound of squawking and pained chirping. “Oh my goodness, there’s a bird in trouble!” She runs into the trees, leaving you.“Miss Merriweather-“ You’re too late to stop her.> Follow her> Wait here> Write in

> Follow her“Miss Merriweather!” you say loudly as you follow her into the deep forest.“This way, Mister Cloak!” says Miss Merriweather. You manage to catch glimpses of her green cloak and red scarf. All you need to keep pace with her.But finally, you find her. She’s bent over a wounded Vogelvolk, a tree branch stuck through his right wing. The Vogelvolk yells and cries in pain. “Schiesse! Mein leben blinkt vor meinen Augen! Diese verfluchten Niederlassung hat mich gelahmt und jetzt kanni ch night fliegen! Oh! Werden Sie ersparen Si emir nicht vorbei, bis ein weiteres Jahr!” yells the Vogelvolk.Strangely enough, you recognize the feathers and the beak of this Vogelvolk. A curved down beak, a black stripe over the eyes, white and black with grey feathers. This Vogelvolk appears to belong to the Shrike Clan of the West. They’re wanderers like you, but unlike the Pigeon Clans, much more sociable.Miss Merriweather reaches over, and quickly pulls the branch out of the Vogelvolk’s wing.“ACH! MEIN FLUGEL!” The Vogelvolk blinks. “Oh. Das hat nicht weh.”Miss Merriweather smiles. “Feel better?”“Ja!” He offers his wing feathers to Miss Merriweather happily. “Sorry for the Vogelsprechen, the language never leaves you entirely!” he says. “I am Lanius! But at least I am alive!”Miss Merriweather says, “And that’s all that matters! You should come with us, Mister Lanius! >>32696807The road to Caul’s Landing is rough. The paving of stone has long since given way to cracks, moss, and other impurities. And yet the villagefolk go barefoot in these conditions. Caul’s Landing exists near a lake. According to Miss Merriweather, Count Caul founded it right on the border between the Western Vogelreich and his territories. Thusly, it was common to see Vogelvolk around, not that humans particularly cared for them considering the Vogelreich’s roots in Elvish culture. It’s a modest town, only about ten buildings or so. There are no farms to be seen or anything self-sustaining besides the lake. Caul’s Landing you assume must be some kind of passing town that relies on weary travelers.“Right!” says Lanius. “I will be at the tavern!” He walks over past a post with bounties on them. Half of the bounties all bear his name and face on it with prices ranging from 300 gold to 5,000 gold.Miss Merriweather and you blink as you stare at the bounties. “How does someone like that get 5,000 gold on their head?”You say, “Says here he apparently cut Count Caul’s cattle.”“Wow,” says Miss Merriweather. “Still, we told him he’d be safe with us and we’d escort him here. A few people are curious that a Wandering Spirit would come in, but you quickly reassure them all that you’re not there to haunt them. They go back to eating.Miss Merriweather sits across from you at the table, a plate of fish and chips in front of her. “Aren’t you going to eat?”“I do not need to eat,” you say. “Spirit after all.”“Ah, I see,” says Miss Merriweather. She looks over, at something else. You turn to see what it is.“Hello there!” says one of the most beautiful women you’ve ever seen. I know it exists, my mind is made up,” you say.“And what will you wish for when you find it?” asks Slate. “If you even find it.”“I do not know.” You stand up, looking out at the glowing sunset with him. “All I know is that I will find it, whether it takes me a year or a hundred.” You nod to Slate. “Good night, Slate.”“I will be here if you wish to talk,” says Slate. You walk back upstairs to see Gemma and Miss Merriweather talking again over what appear to be mugs of alcohol. You pick up the bottle to check what it is.Luna’s Light Lemonade.Hm. Sounds strong.Gemma groans. “I’ve never had another person who understands me! Even my family cast me out into the cold when I told them how much I loved the magic of nature and why I would never work on the farm with them!” She cries, her cheeks flushed with the influences of alcohol.Miss Merriweather meanwhile, simply sits and listens. Her mug is still completely full.Gemma says, “Oh! I knew it was a bad idea to break out the alcohol! I must look like a complete idiot!”“No, no,” says Miss Merriweather, nervously. “It’s fine.”“But all this and that and all that!” Gemma slams her head on the table.…Miss Merriweather says, “I think she’s passed out.” She looks at you. “My goodness, I never realized that such a nature-loving girl could be such an alcoholic.”You shrug. “Loneliness does things to you.” The pixies all gather around her, concerned. You say to them, “Do not worry, she is fine.”> Retire for the Evening> Talk to Miss Merriweather (Topic?)> Help the Pixies bring Gemma to bed> Write in

>>32701018> Talk to Miss Merriweather (Topic?)> Help the Pixies bring Gemma to bedAsk her about Merriweather's family? Is she on good terms with them?
> Talk to Miss Merriweather (Topic?)> Help the Pixies bring Gemma to bedYou and Miss Merriweather carefully lift Gemma up and take her to her room. “Miss Merriweather, are you on better terms with your family than Miss Germain is?”Miss Merriweather nods. “Yep! Well, I never knew my mother, but my adoptive father Randall the Red was an excellent father. Lax, but he knew how to take care of me. Other than that, well, my father pretty much was my family. Besides Clay of course, and maybe Norman Niemand.”You nod. “What were they like?” You both set Gemma down gently. She snores quietly as you pull the blanket over her body. The pixies all laugh and giggle quietly, watching Gemma sleep soundly. As you leave, Miss Merriweather says, “Oh, well, my father was a great man! A great wizard with amazing abilities and intense concentration that allowed him to create awesome enchantments! And Clay was a greatly efficient spellcat, and a bit of a joker too and I loved that about him!”You nod. “And Mister Niemand?”Miss Merriweather shrugs. “He was handsome, smart, kind.” She blushes a little. “Sometimes I wish I had stayed at the city. I probably would’ve had a chance with him. But alas, he and Galena Garrison… well they married. I’m told they’re expecting their first child this month actually!”You nod again as you settle back to the table. “I see. You regret leaving?”“Oh, no, not at all!” says Miss Merriweather. “The adventuring life called to me! And I answered! Leaving my family, yes, it was difficult but… I accepted that. I wanted to make something for myself, I want to leave my mark on the world! I mean, these are interesting times we live in! What good would I be just sitting at home?” She sighs. “But… I do wish I had a nice boy to settle down with.”> “You’ll find one.”> “You don’t need one.”> Write in

> “You’ll find one.”“You will find one, Miss Merriweather, I am sure,” you say.Miss Merriweather smiles at you. “Really?”“You have a lifetime of possibilities.” You shrug. “Anyone of them could potentially be a spouse.”Miss Merriweather sighs. “I suppose that’s right, Mister Cloak. What about you though?”You say, “As much I hate it, falling in love for me would be relatively pointless. Once I am done with my business in this world, I will fade into the afterlife. And even if I still remain, I cannot enjoy the many things that make life worth living. It is why Wandering Spirits seek to end their business as soon as possible.”Miss Merriweather nods. “I see, I see. Well… thank you, Mister Cloak. For your kind words.”“Do not mention it. I am only stating a fact.”Miss Merriweather grins. “Well, I shall retire for the night. We’re sharing a room by the way, unless you want to sleep downstairs with Slate and the pixies.” She walks over to the door. “And as cute as the pixies are, I don’t think it’ll be fun to sleep with them.”“I do not need to sleep,” you say.“Oh, right,” says Miss Merriweather. > Head Downstairs with SlateYou sit down next to Slate downstairs. You hear the quiet snoring and sleeping of the pixies all around the room. Slate does not look pleased as he sits on the windowsill.“Back so soon?” he says.“I felt it would be awkward to sleep with Miss Merriweather tonight,” you say. “In hindsight, the progress I wanted to make today was irrelevant, considering Lanius and Gemma.”Slate says, “You will find that on journeys, there will be unexpected detours and misrouting. Things like that make the journey a bit more exciting.”“I suppose so,” you say. “Slate. Have you ever been on a journey like this?”“No, and I have no desire to,” says Slate. You nod. “I see. Are there are any books to read around here?” Slate nods, motioning over to the big book resting next to him. You pick it up and flip through the pages with your ghostly fingers. It is a big about the history of Valaer. And all that entails. Over six-hundred pages of lore.Hmph. You suppose you could pass the night with a light read.

>>32702155Thank you for the thread!
>>32702241I hope that Marriweather makes it though the end of this quest, she needs to return back home and become the official Auntie/God Mother to that little baby. Lord knows that Galena will want a baby sitter once in awhile.
>>32702389I doubt that this quest will have a high body count, unlike All Quiet on the Western Front Strike Witch edition.
>>32702441I do hope that Schteel is happier with this quest than that one.
I'm sorry, but I am shamelessly bumping this because I mean to read it in about an hour and don't want it falling off before then because fuck archives. My apologies to GermanSchteel. My apologies to non-questing /tg/. My apologies to the questers who will suffer for my selfishness.
