Welcome back to Golem Quest! Where you take upon the form of a golem who, as fate may have it, has the gift of sentient thought! So far, you have learned the basics of enchantment, golem creation, and golem animation, have befriended the apprentice of your deceased creator, saved a village from enslavement, and have drafted one of the slavers to begin research in your tower of creation! Following these events, you have returned to the village and began questioning the assumed lord for information involving a quarry in the area. Finally, you found a viable quarrying area, harvested some wood to construct the quarry, learned the basics of mining, and met your expert!Previous Threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Golem%25QuestTwitter:twitter.com/GolemQuestCharacter Sheet:http://pastebin.com/w7gchitFGolem Resource Cost Sheet:WIPCurrent Actions: Lefty: Guard:Tomas (Ongoing)Tomas&Bandit: Research: Tome(??%)>#1: Gather:Wood>#3: Transport:Tower -> Craft:Golem(Stone):BotYou use the slightly more mobile crafting golem to transport the soon-to-be golem stone to the tower, while your primary form takes to the forest, using your tools to fell trees as progress takes its course. #3 easily makes its way to the tower over the course of three hours and begins the process of crafting a new golem. In short, the process takes roughly four hours to come full circle, at the four hour mark you feel a now familiar stretching as another golem has been created.Roll 1d100, everyone, best of the first three.--Starting a thread off with a dice roll, most fun QM ever.

>>32681477Looks like I have some reading to do this week. Thanks!
>>32681503#1 shift to mining operations#3 head back to the tower, they're going to be on golem crafting duty for the forseeable future#4 start ferrying stone from the quarry to the tower. We should have enough for 3 more golems.New golems get sent to the quarry and start mining. I'm not sure what time it is, but if Tomas is awake, we should ask if he or the bandit can cast wall of stone.
>>32681585This, but have #4 get the wood at the tower to the quarry on its return trips.
>>32681585We should consider setting up a shop in town, so we can buy more exotic materials if necessary. Additionally, we should consider assigning two or three golems to help defend the town.
>>32681658Nah, these are unspec resource golems. We'll start military production after we get full utilization of the mine.Titans cost 810 stone a pop, so we need a pretty big flow of stone to the tower.
>>32681658We already asked about resources in the town, and they basically told us 'nope'. Which is why we're building an industrial backbone from scratch.
>>32681687We're probably not going to make too many Titans though. We'll probably want more normal sized warriors, since the big guys are also big targets. And probably slow.
>>32681713It's a great place for trade, however.
>>32681723Yeah, but first rule of RTS's is to maximize your income.Micro wins battles. Macro wins wars. Also, NEED MORE OVERLORDS.
>>32681764True. We will still need production. Just a friendly reminder that a balanced force is probably better for now.
>>32681774....we can build overlords? Wait, that actually makes some sense. We're sort of like a rocky zerg with less genocidal tendencies. Now we need to figure out what to experiment with in order to design golem overlords...

You begin to focus the concerted efforts of your golems on producing more resources and more golems. #1 is shifted back to mining, while #3 moves back to the tower for crafting duties, and #4 begins to ferry stone and wood between the tower and quarry. Over the next eight hours, one more golem is creates (roll boys), 150 stone is unearthed, 50 wood is consumed.Summary:>Tower: 60 Stone, 200 wood (including storage)>Quarry: 1050 Stone, 600 wood>+1 GolemAt the end of all of this, Kieran returns to see the quarry in a flurry of production. Your primary form approaches."Well, Sir Golem. You are quite productive. I do say we have more than a chance defending the town at this rate. Lord Goyern has sent a small number of young men to scout for any large forces. They aren't trained, but I believe we will have at least six hours notice before the force arrives."What do you do?

>>32682213>>32682216>>32682219Welp, that's shit.
>>32682190>What do you do?I personally want to make sure every golem has a weapon. If a golem doesn't have a weapon, #3 should be able to craft a weapon for them. Are we able to learn Enchantment II while still manufacturing golems? Enchanting a bunch of golem-sized swords with Keen Edge should give us quite a benefit in any upcoming fights.
This golem is... different. The connection seems to be thin, and it does not interact completely with your psyche. It listens to your commands, but it seems to be sluggish. Any attempts to see through its senses fail, and you can only tell its general state of being. The connection is there, but its very tenuous.
>>32682190Kinda surprised there isn't more stone at the tower. #4 is slacking.Anyway, continue gathering and buliding unspecs until we have the mine at full utilization and can pull #1 back to the tower. If #3 is free, have it ask Tomas and the bandit if they can cast wall of stone. If yes, send them to town to work with the mayor and set up defenses.
>>32682296It's a resource drone. Having a weak connection to it doesn't really matter, as long as it can follow simple commands like 'mine more stone'.
>>32682336Got it. Golem doesn't need a strong connection. Deleting my post.
>>32682310I'll back this. We'll start military production after our quarry is staffed.
>>32682275I would say that since you are so skilled at crafting, I would allow this. Also, no one has posted a response to Kieran. Anything there, or is it business as usual?
>>32682480Tell him we are thankful for his assistance, and that the town setting up scouts would be helpful.Once we've filled the mine to capacity, we should make another golem to act as sentry and communications relay in the town.
>>32682480Ask him if the lord has any estimate on how much time we have before an attack is likely. See if he's willing to experiment a bit when we get some more drones over there - try to set up the drones to follow his commands, and then have him supervise their mining.
>>32682480Hmmm...perhaps ask if he can bother the lord for someone with combat experience? We need to learn proper forms if we have to fight.
>>32682558Not sure how useful human combat forms are going to be when applied to an army of stone golems. Strategic advice, sure. Maybe ask him if he would prefer large, extremely powerful combatants or smaller quicker ones.
Things we have to research when we have time:OverlordsReliably linking new golems into our consciousness
>>32682674It'll take a while before we have free time. We're still churning out golems. We need 5 in the mine, probably 3 as haulers, no doubt we'll need 1 as a sentry, and we'll have #1 and #3 in the base doing the construction, enchantment and research.
I'm thinking the first military golem we make should be a Titan. That thing is going to be slow, so we need to get it into position before the fighting starts.
>>32682734I've learned from RTSes that slow, strong units are good in a straight up fight, but against harassers, they're nearly useless.I've learned from D&D that, due to the action economy, two smaller guys are much killier than one larger guy.I like the idea of one titan, but I think most of our force should be light warriors, so as to catch up to raiding bandits.
>>32682674We could maybe experiment on that a bit after the next golem is created. Once it's built and connected, try to reconfigure #3 to act as a relay rather than a node. Like, pull back our consciousness completely to #1, then try to use #3's perfect connection to expand our abilities with the other golems rather than having a second body.
"It is thanks to your assistance, Kieran. The scouts will be helpful for our preparations. My focus currently is to fully outfit this mine to your previous specifications. Soon, I may wish to employ you on a more permanent basis, pending further experiments, if you wish. When you return to the village today, I would like you to ask the lord when he thinks the attack is likely, and to search for a proper tactician. I am currently lacking in that train of thought."With that you return to your work for the day, using your fifth golem to mine with your primary form. It is not as efficient as you are, by a long shot, but it helps nonetheless. During this period you use #2's connection to contact Tomas and the hedgewizard, asking if the hedgewizard could cast the new Earth spell they had uncovered."I am afraid I do not have the knowledge to do so, Master Tankred. And even if I did, my current condition would inhibit any casting."Tomas pipes in, "Red! I could learn how to! It might just take a little while, and a little luck."How do you respond?
>>32682978Yeah, have Tomas start learning. Surrounding the village in stone walls will make our problems a lot easier.
>>32682978Absolutely he should learn
>>32682978Okay. You learn to do that.I assume we still have #2 watching the Hedgewizard and Tomas to make sure that Tomas is safe and that Hedgey isn't doing anything bullshit.
>>32682978We should also probably retask #5 to cart duty, and pull #4 to mining.
>>32682978Proceed cautiously. Your master paid the price of overeagerness, and I would prefer if the same didn't happen to you.
>Tomas:Learn:EvocationOver the course of the work day, business booms. 16 hour work day produces 4 golems if left uninhibited. To save your valuable time, I have made the rolls myself. You send Kieran with a final request: more carts. Pulling your primary form back to the Tower, you find Tomas passed out over a book, #2 watching over him, and the hedgewizard asleep in the parlor. The mine is fully staffed for the evening, as six golems are there, five gathering resources while one transports.
>>32683486We war tycoon now.Can we try the experiment from >>32682830? We need to wait for stone to reach the tower anyway.
>>32683486Wait...I had an epiphany. All of the limbs are linked to the torso, with the torso being the nexus, the meeting point for all the limbs. Literally and magically. Could we possibly research a way to allow interchangeable limbs, allowing for pre-made limb replacement (quick field repair), specialized limbs for mining or transport or casting switching out, that sort of thing?
>>32683486Q. Can we have #8 act as a communications relay to the town? We'd need to make another mining golem with #10, though.Q. Would another hauling golem be helpful at the mine? That'd end up at #11.Q. How many golems would we need for Tree harvesting so that the mining can continue? we'd better send a Crafter golem over to the mine. That'd be #12.
>>32683536>>32683605Oh, and yes. Experiment in making a "Mining overlord" who can automate mining, hauling orders, and tree collection orders.
>>32683590You're learning.>>326836051: Try it, you already know that you can transfer consciousness from one golem to another at a much further distance.2. Once you have the transportation to haul the resources, yes.3: One crafter or Large golem, or two medium unspec'd.
>>32683722I'd like to experiment on>>32683590 if possible
>>32683536I didn't even see this or the other post, my bad. In what way do you mean your abilities? Like, skills with magic, what? If so, I don't know how that would work, as you pulled your consciousness fully from it. I'm not shooting down the idea, I just want it fleshed out a bit more.
>>32683846I was trying to think of a way to create an overlord, so by abilities I think just increasing the link level of all golems in range?
>>32683881Basically trying to use #3 as an amplifier for our consciousness, if that makes sense.
>>32683881Essentially you want to pull all consciousness from the golem, and in essence try to create a pylon effect from the Protoss? All golems in range have their bond increased by X amount?
>>32683846While tomas works on the spell, could we have the other researcher look up inter-golem links?
>>32683908Yeah, if that's possible.
>>32683722Well, we're a crafting golem, aren't we?We can MAKE a hauling cart. So, here's what I'd like to do [barring any contradictory input from other players, who are probably smarter than I am]:Practice hearing what #8 hears, send it over to the town. He'll be our communications relay.Make a cartContinue making golems for the mining operation to get it (back) up to 100%Experiment with making an "Overlord" type golem that can oversee the mining operationOnce that's done, experiment on hot-swappable parts as >>32683845 suggests, so he doesn't feel left out. Then research Enchanting IIMake weapons for each golem according to its size and aptitude, enchant the weapons, and distribute the weapons to the golems.>>32683846I am not the person you're replying to, but I was hoping to have a Golem that can micromanage mining, hauling orders, and tree collection, freeing up our attention from mining.>>32683908Personally I think having a second body is too useful to use on this, but creating a golem to act as a Pylon would be helpful.
>>32683948Sounds interesting, >>32683590So basically you want to be the first to create interchangeable parts for golems.
>>32683948I disagree with arming our drones. We need to get some actual fighter golems before we start working on arming them. And I'm not saying we leave #3 as a pylon, I just want to see if its possible.
>>32683948Oh come now. You don't think having cart-arms would be even a little more efficient? We could even design more complex mechanisms, or even make arms specializing in magic with various enchantments. As this progresses, we can make more and more golems, then...we remove our limbs, focus our own enchantment down to a single speck...hide that speck, we are immortal. This is a very bad plan, now that I think of it.
>>32684015We didn't find anything in the advanced rites, did we? So technically...yeah, first to make interchangeable parts.
We'll stick to current actions for now, as the day has ended and we'll get some first person narrative now. What do you do?Options Discussed:>Research: Golem: Interchangable Parts>Research: Golem: Overlord Specialization>Research: Golem: Pylon>Learn: Magic: Enchanting>Craft: Wood: CartCurrent Output (Post Mine-Crew)Tower: -80 Stone/hr, +.25 Base Golem/hrQuarry: +50 Stone/hr, -25 Wood/hrOngoing Transfer:300 Stone/2hr (Quarry->Tower)Current Stocks: Stone: 250 (@Tower)Wood: 550 (@Quarry)It will be three hours until the next base golem can be created, and seven until it is operational.
>>32684166What would be the difference between an overlord and a pylon?
>>32684166we require more pylons
>>32684166Interchangeable parts is needed in a army
>>32684182YOU MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS!
>>32684182As spoken of here, a pylon would simply increase the response time of each golem, and if the bond spills over 100 (Perfect), it would allow you to attain direct control. An overlord is a golem who can be instructed with a set of terms, similar to a script, to control a certain number of golems in a task or effort.
>>32684166Hmmm...even though I'm the one who suggested interchangeable parts, I still feel we should craft a cart, research the overlord.
>>32684166>Research: Golem: Interchangable Parts>Research: Golem: Overlord SpecializationI want one of those if possible.
>>32684221Hmm, that leaves me torn. Delegating responsibilities would be nice for an army, but I doubt we'll have a force big enough to require it when the bandits attack. I'll go with pylons for now. Overlords will be needed later, though.

Voting Closed: >Research: Golem: PylonNote that this will incapacitate #3 for the duration. I will limit this to the point where he is slated to create another golem. Any who have concerns, voice them as I write.
>>32684370I'm seeing this more as a proof of concept experiment than a permanent role for #3. After we figure out it can be done, and we have enough stone at the tower to start on a titan, we should revert him back and get to crafting.
>>32684370What type of golems are being created?
Now that brings something to mind. Are we waiting on the stone for a base model, or what?Choose Tower Production:>Golem: Bot (Medium Base): 270>Golem: Titan (Large Heavy Fighter): 840>Golem: Scout (Small Light Base): 102>Golem: Skirmisher (Small Light Fighter):128

>>32684448I'd like a couple of scouts...can we make chameleon golems? Made of poorly-cut wood (fitted perfectly) able to blend into the woodland seamlessly.

Do we have books in the art of warfare?I mean if so I suggest we read up on it and make majority of our fighting forces made up of humanoids. Golems are too expensive and time consuming to be average front line foot soldiersSuggest make them officers and or heavy shock troopers
>>32684602>too expensiveWut.In the space of 2 days we've built and fully staffed a quarry that would require 20 people. In another day we'll have at least 3 more golems, one of which is fucking metroplex.
>>32684630This nig knows what's upA battallion of golems would only be twenty. We could take a decently sized town with 20 metal titans.
>>32684630The problem I'm thinking is the larger battlesI'm not sure what the numbers are in the bandit army but more than 60+ bandits will give us a hard time. Especially if they have a competent sorcerer in their ranks. We should mix it up a bit instead of having one static elemental golem army Also I'm not sure whats the average scale of warfare these lands facesUnless our production goes unimpeded (which I doubt)We'll lose the number game sooner or later
>>32684727In a straight numbers game, we'll crush any human army given enough time. It takes them at least 15 years to build a replacement. It takes us 3 hours.
You turn to other thoughts as your new golem mining crew gets to work. Many of your current golems do not share the mental link that your other crafting golem share. Although your mind cannot currently span across multiple golems, you know the strategic advantage of the commander being both on the front line, and even then be completely safe. As you ponder the possibility of increasing the mental bond, dual lines of thought cross your mind.>Pylon:StructureYou could, in essence, create a specialization of golem with the ability to use its mental bond in tandem with your own to increase a number of golems' bond strength. This may be combined with extra fortification, as the golem would only be moved during non-combat situations, and could bunker down behind its defenses during combat.>Pylon:SacrificeOn the other hand, the "perfect connection you share with your crafter golem could be a catalyst for a more permanent solution. By severing the mental bond between the two of you, you could harness the backlash to increase the mental bonds of other golems. Essentially tearing apart a rope to fortify other ropes. This could only be performed on perfect golems, but could produce more in the long run. What do you choose? Neither choice would sacrifice #3 in this point in time, but you only have time before production to research one. At a later date the other could be researched, if necessary.
>>32684821>>Pylon:StructureI'm not ready to sacrifice #3 for improving a bunch of resource bots.
>>32684821I think having a structure or humanoid as a crucial role in our warband would be disastrous on the long run as we develop so I say we sacrifice the crafter
>>32684821>Pylon:StructureI'm fine with going RTS mode with it.
You decide that risking the bond you already have created is not a risk you're willing to take, when you only have so many golems. True, you procreate quickly, but only one so far has proven as useful. You pull your consciousness completely from #3, rendering him inert on the Lab-slab that you awoke on one week ago. You tinker for the evening hours, even as your golems mine out the stone below to create more of themselves. The progress you make is markedly useful, but not outstanding. You find that with the proper alignment of the nexus, you could amplify the bond through a properly crafted golem's form. The problem is that this is the first time, that you know, that any have thought of this. You would be crafting a custom nexus through which to amplify your already unusual mental bond to your golems. It will take time, as you are won't to join your Creator's blasted corpse. You make enough progress to lead into further discoveries, but you note the theorized adjustments needed into an empty notebook for recording purposes. At the end of twelve hours, you have enough stone to begin crafting your first Titan class golem. As its large size is too cumbersome for the innards of the tower, you join efforts with #3 to craft the behemoth. It takes six hours to craft the body, even as you two work together. The Titan class golem comes equipped with mutable weaponry for any situation. It can be changed with a mental command within twelve seconds. It is sized for the golem, and can suit any non-exotic fighting style. After two hours of advanced rites... the golem awakens.Roll 1d100. First three, best of them.Current Stocks: Stone@Tower: 600

The titan awakens, its monstrous form a new presence in your mind. It weighs on you more than the other, weaker golems. This one has potential. You order it to stand, and experiment with the weapons.Tomas peaks over the steps behind you. "...that is quite likely the most amazing thing I have seen created by magic."What do you do?
>>32685280"It is but the first, little one. Do you think you could continue your studies if you rode it to town? I'd like you to warn the Lord before it arrives so there is no panic."
>>32685280Ask him if he's ready for that stone wall casting.Send the Titan to stand guard in the town.See if we can "Hear" through the titan, or if we can get the Titan to ping us when someone shouts near it.Then, work on that adaptive limb system.
>>32685280This is but a stepping stone
>>32685280Now, assuming that 89 wasn't modified and it takes 90 to get a near-perfect connection, we might want to take the time to experiment with this golem and improve its link to us before doing anything else. +1 with lefty only took a few hours last time we tried it, and it probably won't interfere with our other activities.

>>32685466Thanks for running.I'll say that now that we've mostly worked out a stream of resources, maybe focus less on the minutia of getting a quarry running, and more on big picture stuff? Like, if we say we want to devote a days production to improving our economy, we don't have to actually assign every single golem built, they'll just slot into our already existing base?
>>32685572That's how I was planning on going for it. Just building up to the grand scale at this point. Golem-Drones are going to end up as much a resource as any as production ramps up. I just wanted to give a bit of time to the in-depth decisions required to start the Zer- er... Golem Empire.
>>32685466could we resaerch a way to build a golem that reads a book, stores it in some sort of local memory, then we can "download" that memory when it is finished researching?
>>32685630Not trying to metagame, but as a tone question, was >It weighs on you more than the other, weaker golemsSupposed to sound menacing?

>>32685646Anything is possible. I'm leaning more toward write-ins, or options that come up from discussion. For example, I hadn't even considered the pylon line of thought. Also, you're welcome.>>32685760T'would be interesting though.
>>32685783>such as make the equivalent of the Iron Giant and tell it to go smash the villagers in the next town over.I'm glad that's in the list. Although, I have no actual problem with making the Iron Giant.
>>32685783Speaking of which, we're going to have set up an iron mine and smelter after the fighting is over. Also learn how to make metal golems.
>>32685760Maybe, I probably should have explained more of my idea. I was hoping that with trying to mingle with them more we could help them grow, renown, population, economy ect...Sorta have a place to recruit skilled people also, similar to the guy that helped us with the mine, because lets face it we may learn new skills easily we need someone to teach us some of the skills that you can not learn from a book. And eventually we will run out of stuff in the library to learn from so maybe if the town has grown sufficiently we may meet some friendly magic users that may be willing to teach us.I may be looking long term a little in my thinking, but I don't know how long our resources will last us.
>>32685815It'll happen, especially once one of you guys suggests researching something bigger than a Titan.>>32685916Long term is great. I can tell you right now that you have learned everything about crafting Golems. There are higher ranks, but you have to discover them in other fashions. You are at the peak of 'mundane' golemcrafting, as your Creator was before you.
>>32685968>something bigger than a Titan.
>>32685968Neat. How big is our titan? You know height wise and width.
>>32686059Roughly twelve feet in height and four feet in width, two feet thick.
>>32686092Make this three feet wide, 1.5 thick
>>32686102>Titan is primarch-sizedWelp, guess that means the next class up is called Primarchs. Then the ones after are called god-machines.
>>32686130That could be our Iron Giant scale constructs. Primarchs.
>>32686149You know, it'd be funny if we decided to go small rather than big. Nanomachine golems.
>>32686157Tis the way I'd go. Infinitely more deadly, if a tad slower.
>>32686157Can u imagine how confusing that would be? Trying to control hundreds of those little buggers.>>32686092thanks
>>32686187We'd have to get pretty high tech overlords if we went the nanomachine route, cause it wouldn't be hundreds. It'd be billions.
