This is a Three Kingdoms Quest, attempting to follow an RPG-style of the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel by Luo Guangzhong. A lot of people may be familiar with this through Dynasty Warriors, which will be fine for the most part. The goal of this game is to follow through the events of RoTK as a fictional character, beginning as a no-name scrub and rising up to become an integral part of the storyline and even altering events/the course of history if possible.General Notes/Rules:>the difficulty of the game will be "medium." Death won't be lurking in every corner, but too many mistakes, stat check failures, and the like will mean the end of the character>if the character dies, you can then play an heir to the character following him, or a completely new one if you wish. The goal is to get to a unified China regardless whether you "win" or "lose">try not to meta the game as much as possible when following through some of the famous events>this will heavily rely on the novel and history, and little bit on Dynasty Warriors. So no, don't expect to rambo in 1000 soldiers by yourself
The year is 190. Following a time of strife and the once glorious Han dynasty declining by a corrupt and incapable administration, a giant peasant rebellion rises called the Yellow Turban Rebellion. The rebellion does not last long as the empire quickly subjugates insurgents through the help of effective military leaders and the leader of the rebellion, Zhang Jue passing away. Peace does not return however as various lords are granted rank and land, who begin to vie for power. One particular lord, Dong Zhuo, takes over the Han court, deposing the late young Emperor and taking power for himself as Prime Minister. A reign of terror and tyranny begins, and the various lords rise up to defeat Dong Zhuo and “save” the Han.You are Zhu Xing, from the city of Xu Chang. As the eldest son of a minor noble, you grew up with some training and education. As your late father passes away, you feel you must do something in these turbulent times; be it saving the Han, gaining fame, or simply looking for something to do. At eighteen years of age, you go out to seek your destiny. Before we get to the story, as a child you...>diligently followed your father to become a proper head of the next family>spent time studying the histories and improving your knowledge at the academy>mingled with the other nobles and made many friends to further your connections>studied and practicied swordsmanship to fulfill your dream of becoming the best warrior >led your own gang, picking fights with the other local kids and causing trouble>traveled the country, learning many different things and picking up various talents

>studied and practiced swordsmanship to fulfill your dream of becoming the best warrior>spent time studying the histories and improving your knowledge at the academyYou spent most of your time with the local master, learning swordsmanship and wushu. Your body is honed from training, and you can defeat a typical mook in single combat, but the time spent took away from your other studies.Stats (Out of 100):>Lead: 50 (Effectively leading men)>War: 70 (Fighting skills, strength, stamina, etc)>Int: 60 (Knowledge, plots, ploys, etc)>Pol: 40 (Administration, civil duties, politics, etc)>Cha: 40 (Speech, presentation, "handsomeness," etc)You wanted to start your journey in the morning, but because fucking 4chan went down, you leave in the noon. On the road you meet a weary traveler, whom you help and share some water with. When you tell him you plan on serving a lord, he gives you some details on the prominent lords of the country. Learning this information, you decide to serve...>Cao Cao: The man who sent a call of arms to depose Dong Zhuo. Sent to be an ambitious and capable man.>Sun Jian: Veteran and accomplished general of the Rebellion. Also subjugated many bandits and insurgents.>Yuan Shao: The prestigious head of the Yuan family who served the Han for generations. He killed the corrupt eunuchs at court before Dong Zhuo took charge. >Yuan Shu: Related to Yuan Shao, and also part of prestigious Yuan family. Has many resources and men, but is said to be a very petty man.>Gongsun Zan: Famous general, leading the White Riders cavalry. Subjugated and defeated many of the barbarian tribes to the north.>Liu Bei: A man who made some name during the Rebellion. Leads a paltry volunteer force with his two brothers, and said to be very honorable.>Dong Zhuo: The corrupt Prime Minister in charge, with a powerful army and lands.

>Yuan ShuDisregard Han, acquire Imperial SealIt's MAXIMUM HARD MODE. Whereas Sun Jian is two star babby mode
>Dong Zhuo: The corrupt Prime Minister in charge, with a powerful army and lands. You think about your choices. While serving one of the coalition lords might have given good opportunities... Why join those paltry lords with their green levies when you can join the "Imperial" forces themselves and their elite veteran warriors who fought many battles against the Qiang tribes? And certainly it would be much safer... And such a corrupt administration presents chances to rise. You travel westward, past a few villages with many Imperial soldiers patrolling and guarding the areas. It seems the call to arms against Dong Zhuo has put the soldiers on high alert. You finally come to the imperial city of Luo Yang, and quickly go to the recruitment center. The lines aren't exactly long; it doesn't seem like many want to join the corrupt Dong Zhuo...You meet a man behind a desk, who scarcely pays any attention to you."Name. Your clan. Your home city."He "asks" without even looking. You give him your information, and he determines you will join as a foot soldier in the army based on your background. He asks one last question while stroking his beard."Why do you wish to join this administration?"You answer:>To serve the Han loyally.>So I can make a name for myself.>To kill all the rebel scum of course!>Money(Roll a 1d100. Seeing where you will be assigned...LU BUYou remember this man, thought to be a powerful warrior, big, and riding his red horse rumored to be aflame. But he also betrayed his step-father and killed him... Well, you knew the administration was corrupt. You reach the camp and head to the armory. You are given leather armor, a short-sword, and a spear. You smile confidently and walk out, when..."Who's this little shit? We really got new recruits coming in?"You turn to look at a stout looking foot soldier, looking contemptuously at you with a few other soldiers in the background watching."Whatcha doing here little shit? "What's wrong little man? You want to fook me?" he taunts. With a twist of your spear and a glare, you ready yourself in battle stance. The men watching smile, seeing that a fight is starting. They woot, whistle, and cheer for a fight. The bulky man who insulted you draws his sword."You're gonna wish you walked away, you little shit."How will you fight him? It might do well to kill him, but at the same time, he's a veteran warrior. Underestimating him might be a wise choice.>Fight defensively. Try to disarm and knock him down without much injuries.>Fight to beat him, even if it gives him some cuts and wounds. >Fight all-out. The guy's going to die.(Roll 1d100, average of first three. >Fight to beat him, even if it gives him some cuts and wounds.>avg 68 roll"YEARGHHH!"He charges at you with a loud grunt, and you follow up with your own charge. The man slashes at you first, but you effectively dodge side to side with your body. He is moderately fast and strong, but you think you're better than him. You parry the next swing with your spear, and make a few stab strikes at him. He manages to parry some back, but one your strikes hits him on the shoulder. Because of his armor, he is not injured, but he is slightly pushed back. You take the opportunity to swiftly dash to his side and make another attack to his side. He sees this, and attempts to parry your spear, but finds himself too late. You manage to get a stab at his right side which has less armor and more open, and he is grazed. The man grunts, and despite his small wound swings more fiercely at you. You parry, dodge, and sidestep him as he gets slower and slower, the cloth and armor of his beginning to grow more red from the wound. When he is breathing hard, and makes a hard thrust at you, you once again manage to sidestep him and he loses his balance. You take this chance to slam the back of his head with the shaft of your spear. He is knocked to the ground, but quickly stumbles back up. He quickly turns back to you, and his face is in rage. As he prepares for another charge at you..."Stop."A deep and loud voice comes from the side. The soldier you were fighting grunts and looks fiercely at the side, wanting to know the fool trying to stop yours and his fight. But his face quickly returns turns to horror, and he quickly gets on his knee when he sees who it is.A tall lofty man, clad in iron armor. A distinguishing headpiece with pheasant headpiece on his head. Handsome, but gruff looking, with fierce cheekbones. It is Lu Bu.
“Dress your wounds and get out. I should have your head on a spike at the gates, for starting a fight in my camp. But I am in a good mood today,” Lu Bu speaks simply to the soldier. The soldier bows several times, and quickly goes away. Lu Bu walks over to you, and looks you over. You lower your fighting stance and spear. You can't fight this man, and even if you could, the whole camp would kill you on the spot for fighting a general.“You are young, but you fight well. Impressive. Normally I should not allow such behavior in my ranks, but I will let it slide this time. You had your chances to kill him, but you did not. Beating a Liang soldier itself is no small thing either. What is your name?”You give him your name, and give a bow, taking care not to annoy the man.“Hmph.”He turns around, and begins walking away with you. But he stops a short distance.“Zhu Xing, having you as a private would be a waste. I will raise your rank to lieutenant. However, make trouble in my ranks again and I will kill you myself.”Lu Bu goes away. The men around the camp cheer, and they surround you with praises and the like. It seems your reputation with the camp is up... And you have left a good impression on Lu Bu as well. (War: +1)Profile: http://pastebin.com/UTDjnUuX
Days pass, and you diligently work your duties. Just as you wonder when it is your time to fight, the drums begin to roll, signaling for the army to move. The camp is broken down, and Lu Bu's army travels some distance eastward. It seems the time to fight has finally come... Soon enough, an army appears from the distance. You find out is it Liu Dai, leading an army of 6000. Your own army is 3000 strong, but are full of veterans and trained men. Lu Bu at the helm of the army spits.“Welps all of them. Give the order to attack. I want that lord's head.”Lu Bu and the army charges. You ready your own spear. >Charge to gain glory and kill!>50 avg rollLu Bu's army crashes in to the enemy, you also at the helm with bloodlust. The troops at the vanguard scatter almost instantly and scream in horror. You quickly realized that they are but fresh recruits as you quickly kill two men at the front. They are in no way any match for the veterans here. You dash in, spear swinging. You take down a young soldier, barely worth anything. You take a second one, who managed to parry your attacks a few times before he falls. Encouraged by such weak opponents, you dash in more and stab another man in the throat. You dance around the battlefield. You kill another man, tackling him down with a shoulder rush and then stabbing him through the heart. Your grin suddenly turns to a wince, as you feel a stab at your back.It seems you charged in too far and an enemy managed to wound you. Luckily, his weapon was but a poorly crafted spear and the man was a lowly weak old man. Your armor protected you and you just got a small graze. You grab his spear with one hand, pulling him close to you before ending his life by stabbing him in the throat. You look back to the front, and see that the enemy are scattering and running away as your comrades pile on the kill. The army is quick to reorganize, and you can see that Lu Bu's army lose only a few men while it seems a thousand died on their side. Lu Bu, his own halberd red with blood, spits."Our orders are to destroy this pathetic army, and to raid the next village for supporting the coalition. Go."The troops quickly march again, you along with it. You take a moment to dress your small wound. Soon you find the village Lu Bu mentioned, and with roars, the soldiers charge. They slaughter the men, take the women, loot...What do you do?>Kill! Loot! Burn! Rape!>Kill only those who resist... Rolled 8>>32667579>>Kill only those who resist... Stay back otherwise...There is glory in war and fightingNot looting and slaughter
>>32667579>>Kill only those who resist... Stay back otherwise...We are the noble conqueror.
>>32667656>Not looting and slaughterThis is bullshit. All warrior cultures respected looting and slaughter. Looting was in most armies the only form of pay a soldier had. Slaughter impressed upon your neighbours the consequences of taking arms against you. To deny looting is to deny your soldiers' pay. To keep from slaughter is to fail in your duty to express the consequences of taking up arms against you.Look at what the Wallachians achieved with slaughter. Look at what Persia and the Ottomans, the Crusaders and Mongols achieved. The Romans in particular. To not submit yourself to the blood rush is to deny your purpose on the field of battle. To deny yourself the communion of the brotherhood of war is to be only half a warrior.Kill! Rape! Loot! It is what you are for and it is what your lord has commanded from you! See the purpose in it, and when you act do so with relentless action unbridled by concern of civil sensibility!
>>32667579>>Kill only those who resist... Stay back otherwise...Killing those who don't resist is beneath us.

Even if they are labeled as rebels of the state. There's not much to do. You walk in the onslaught. One of the peasants charge at you with a small scythe, but you manage to easily disarm him. He flees in terror, and you don't bother pursuing. He'll probably be killed by someone else anyway... Some of the soldiers look your way, confused as to why you're not taking any plunder. Some of them will be slightly richer by the day's end, but you will not.(War +3)Night falls, and the men celebrate their victory. Lu Bu takes the magistrate's house and dines with the ranked soldiers. As a lieutenant, you yourself are present, though you are slightly far from where Lu Bu is seated. The men seated smile and talk joyfully, Lu Bu himself is hearty despite showing a hard exterior during your first encounter and following battle. The men throw praises to him, and he smiles pleasantly. One of the soldiers, another lieutenant, turns to you while laughing and drinking. "Lieutenant Zhu, how come you didn't take some valuables? You go back to your own, seemingly have made another good impression on Lu Bu as well as not offending your other comrades.(Cha +2)As you enjoy yourself, the doors open after some time pass. A soldier walks in, and hands Lu Bu a letter. Casually taking a bite of his bread, Lu Bu reads the contents. He shrugs, and reveals the contents of the letter."General Guo Si's 8000 met against Sun Jian's own 5000. Guo Si was thoroughly defeated. General Li Jue fell in to an ambush by Cao Cao, but managed to retreat in good order. General Fan Chou and his 8000 met Yuan Shu's 10,000, and they fought an even battle with no results. The coalition leaders are gathering near Si Shui gate, and we are to rendezvous with the other generals there on the morrow."Lu Bu takes a deep drink of is cup."You lot get some sleep. We march tomorrow."
You obey Lu Bu's command, and find yourself a bed in one of the abandoned houses. You sleep relatively well, though your wound bothers you from time to time. The next morning, Lu Bu and the army head toward Si Shui gate. After hours of travel, the army arrives at the gates. It seems the other generals have already arrived and forties the pass. A distance away, the enemy coalition force is camped. You can see various banners, indicating the vast number of lords that have come together to oppose Dong Zhuo. You sit on a council of officers and ranked soldiers. As a lieutenant, you are at the very end of the tables, away from the generals' seats. They are discussing battle plans. After about an hour of talk, one tall man, hulking and big as an ape stands and beats his chest.“Enough! We dilly dally around here while the enemy makes a mockery of us and camps in front of us. Let me, Hua Xiong, challenge the enemy to single combat! They will flee when I take the heads of their champions!”The generals murmur. You have a chance at input here. What do you do?>Praise Hua Xiong, and say you want to see him slaughter rebel scum!>Stand and declare you want to duel the enemy yourself.>Vouch for Lu Bu to fight instead.
>>32668266>>Stand and declare you want to duel the enemy yourself. There is only one suitable course of action.
>>32668266>>Stand and declare you want to duel the enemy yourself.Say that there's no need for such a renowned and valiant general like Hua Xiong to dirty himself against an unworthy enemy. It would be much more embarrassing for the rebels if a mere Lieutenant takes their champion's head
>>32668283I like this. Feed his ego while making a name for ourselves by dying horribly.
>>32668266>Stand and declare you want to duel the enemy yourself.prehaps now we'll find a decent challenge
>>32668303Is there ANYONE who can provide me with a decent challenge?!
>>32668266>>32668283Supporting this Heading off to sleep but this quest seems promising and it looks like you have a pretty decent player base. Will you make a twitter to announce regular quest times?
>>32668310 I haven't played since extreme legends 5 how is it
>>32668338I'm liking the story mode so far. Started with the Lu Bu campaign and that was pretty satisfying, as the alt path end fight has you killing pretty much everyone. At once.
>>32668356I was actually pretty disappointed with the alt path end for Lu Bu, I seem to recall playing a much more satisfying gauntlet at Hulao Gate in 6 or 5 or something. Maybe it was because halberds are wicked OP and it wasn't satisfying.
>>32668411yeah, equipping two halberds and just switching them to get that superbuff makes most officers trivial. Still, it's nice that lu bu is actually as stupidly OP as he's supposed to be.
>Stand and declare you want to duel the enemy yourself. You stand up, and declare your standing."General Hua Xiong, there is no need for such a valiant general to fight such weak men! Let me challenge the enemy instead! If a mere Lieutenant can kill their champions, surely they will cower and fear us more!"...What seemed like a good idea turns sour. The generals all look at you with contempt, and even Lu Bu has a slight frown. You hear your own words... "A mere Lieutenant..." "Who are you to boast so arrogantly, and declare yourself like that?" General Guo Si asks."Do you realize what fools we will look like if we send a mere lieutenant to do battle?" Zhang Ji says."Sit down you fool! Before I hang you!" Hua Xiong shouts. You quickly seat yourself, embarrassed at the display. It was insulting to declare yourself like that, and in the minds of generals and lords whom you have not made any impressions yet, it was a terrible idea. It seems you have made a bad impression on the other generals here. The council ends, with Hua Xiong decided as champion. As you walk out, Lu Bu grips you on the shoulder and mutters to you."You are a good warrior, and have accomplished deed in my force. But you must learn your place in the near future. Worry not, I am sure your time will come in the near future."You nod at the advice, and take your station on the walls. Hua Xiong and his horse gallops forth, and challenges the enemy camp. Some time pass, and an enemy champion comes to do battle. Hua Xiong smote him in a single pass, and you learn the enemy champion was Bao Zhong. Another champion by the name of Yu She comes, but he too is slain at quick notice. A man by the name of Pan Feng is cut down as well when he comes to challenge Hua Xiong...
The men cheer as enemy after enemy are slain. However, this time another man comes forward. A man in green hood and silk garments and a large halberd. He has a distinguishing long beard. The men scoff; they do not even know the name of this enemy combatant. Surely he too shall fall under Hua Xiong's blade?...No. In but a few passes, the green-garbed warrior takes down Hua Xiong and lops of his head. The soldiers on your side cry in surprise. As the green-garbed warrior goes away with Hua Xiong's head, Dong Zhuo's men begin to murmur. The enemy lines cheer, and they now march with the troops, with Sun Jian at the head.“Enough!” Guo Si shouts at the army in rage. “We will sally forth a vanguard of 1000 and protect the front gates of Si Shui! The rest will defend the pass and rain arrows upon the enemy! Move!”The orders are given, and it seems the battle will begin... What do you plan to do?>Go with the vanguard. (Roll 1d100, average of three).>Stay at the walls and defend those who climb.>Grab a bow and some arrows, climb an archer tower and shoot those who come.
Rolled 27>>32668588>>Go with the vanguard. (Roll 1d100, average of three).XAAAAAAAAAA
Rolled 71>>32668588>>Go with the vanguard. (Roll 1d100, average of three).
Rolled 72>>32668588>Go with the vanguard. (Roll 1d100, average of three).no guts, no glory
Rolled 87>>32668605>>32668612>>3266861857.Not too bad.Could be better. Especially since we're going to be dealing with Guan Yu.
>>32668627It's pretty unlikely we'll ever get far away from 50 with average of 3. That's one hell of a bell curve.
>>32668634Averages are dumb, it should always be best of if you are only going with three rolls.
>Stay at the walls and defend them from those who climb.
>Rolls will be based on situation. On regular situations, typical average of first three rolls. On advantageous situations, best of three. On disadvantageous, lowest of three.Considering our war talent gets added to our rolls, I assume anything less than 100 is somewhat of a minor failure, 100-150 is a success. So natural rolls would require us to roll an average of sub 30 to fuck things up.
>>32668572>Be al Luteniant>Barge in on a chance of Glory between GeneralsI knew you guys weren't the smartest but how did you see this as anything except incredibly stupid?
>>32668717At least we spell good.
>>32668717>Be a lieutenant>KNOW that the enemy has Guan Yu and Zhao Yun>volunteer to duel
>>32668717>>32668790Isn't it strange how we never consider /tg/ doing deliberately suicidal things as being stupid?
>Go with the vanguard. >avg 57 rollRemembering that you did not do so well at the council, you decide to go with the vanguard, as dangerous as it sounds. Veteran soldiers seeking glory also volunteer, and soon enough the iron gates of Si Shui Pass open and you move out with the other soldiers in formation. The enemy forces charge. Sun Jian and his men move to fight yours, while the other lords' armies attempt to climb the pass. The men with you fight valiantly and stave off the first wave. However, a second wave has your force in deadlock. You yourself slay a few soldiers. They were however harder to kill the last battle when you were fighting mere green levees. These soldiers are actually trained, and Sun Jian makes good use of them.As if to to emphasize the enemy general's talent further, Sun Jian orders a strike force to charge at the flank of your army. The tactic works, and your force begins to crumble. You stave off some soldiers and fight fiercely. You stab one man through the chest with your spear, when another soldier strikes at you and breaks your spear in half with his mighty axe. You quickly draw your sword and after trading a few blows manage to kill him by a riposte to his stomach. Your line is crumbling however. Your force begins to be slowly pushed back. One of the enemy soldier manages to strike you on your head with his mace; your helmet flying off and your head spinning from dizziness. A part of your head is swollen and bleeding, and but you manage to stave off the man with wild swings of your sword. (Injury is at Moderate)The men begin to retreat back in to the pass, Sun Jian's force pressing on. One of his adjutants is charging in and killing numerous men. You see an opportunity to kill him as he is distracted from you and hacking away at another man... But should you try?>Kill the bastard! Then you can retreat (1d100 roll, average)>No, retreat now back to the pass.
Rolled 59>>32668891>Kill the bastard! Then you can retreat (1d100 roll, average)
>>32668891Retreat back to the pass. We're too wounded, organize a very orderly retreat that we personally oversee.
Rolled 32>>32668891>>Kill the bastard! Then you can retreat (1d100 roll, average)We'll retreat with his head in our hands.
>>32668891>>No, retreat now back to the pass.

Rolled 54>>32668891>Kill the bastard! Then you can retreat (1d100 roll, average)>>32668912I don't think you're properly aware of what this situation entails.
>>32668834Hey, a near-suicidal adventure like Heretical Love Quest is more entertaining than being super paranoid of any and all potential threats like in Blatant Fetish Quest. This is a game, relax!Besides, our moxy might just get us a page in the history books. And if we die, no big deal, we play as new character. Ooh, I wanna play as a lady for the next character!
Rolled 45>>32668891>Kill the bastard! Then you can retreat (1d100 roll, average)
>>32668891hi op, im just reminding you that it is perfectly alright to punish stupidity. recommened even.
>Kill the bastard! Then you can retreat>avg roll of 58You lunge at the man from his side. The man manages to kill the enemy in front on him, and has only a brief moment to realize you are now attacking. With a grunt, he attempts to block your attack but is still caught off-guard. You manage to break his guard, then make a slash at his head. He moves his head backward instinctively, and manages to save his head. Your sword however manages to cut across a large part of his face and he grunts in pain."You whoreson!" he yells preparing his sword. "I will personally burn your corpse and feed it to the fishes of the Chang Jian!"He lunges, and you both begin to fight with your blades. Both of you are injured, and your movements are dulled, but both of you manage to fight like capable warriors. He wounds you on your left shoulder with a cut, and you return the favor with a slash at his leg. He falls to the ground in pain. You see a chance to kill him, but it seems you've lost too much blood. You crumble to your knee as well. Enemy soldiers come to protect the man and ready their spears to kill you. There is no way you can stave them off. As you contemplate your death, someone manages to grab you. The last thing you remember before blacking out is riding on someone's shoulder, and seeing some enemy soldiers chasing you.
You awaken. You are in deep pain. You manage only to lift your head and see that you are at an infirmary. But it is not Si Shui Pass, but some camp long away."You awake? You crazy fool."You turn to see an old soldier at bed next to your own. A rag is over his eye. You wince in pain... You ask him what happened. He explains that he was the one who saved you when you blacked out. The enemy retreated for that day, but then attacked the next day. Lu Bu killed several enemy champions, before three three men attack him all at once and forced him to retreat. The enemy lords attacked once again, with Sun Jian heading the siege. Si Shui Pass was taken, and Dong Zhuo's forces retreated. Cao Cao pursued by was defeated by an ambush led by Lu Bu. You were knocked out and could not participate in the second phase of Si Shiu, and Cao Cao's ambush.“Don't beat yourself up too much, you stupid little shit,” the old man mutters, covering himself with his sheets. “You managed to wound Sun Jian's officer, Zu Mao before I saved your arse. Lu Bu took notice, and now you're Captain.”You can barely reply, as you lie down. You need to recover your injuries some more... (To be continued)(War +4)And that's the end for now. I'll continue tomorrow (tonight, Monday) at 20:00 PST

>>32671305Advisers =/= Bros
>>32671402This one was. Chen Gong defected from Cao Cao to Lu Bu, sticking with him up till the bitter end during his downfall.Even after his capture by his former master when Lu Bu was finally defeated, he refused to return to his service and was killed.
>>32671305As long as you're not trying to mack on Diao Chan he's pretty bro. And Lu Lingqi can actually get him to do sensible shit.
>>32671457Chen Gong is also the one who encouraged him to betray Liu Bei and got him into the mess though. Chen Gongtai was a devious man with a grudge. This made him very powerful over Lu Bu, who was not crafty, but in the end it led them both to ruin. Chen pushed Lu Bu into conflict over and over again hoping to advance his power so that he could destroy Cao Cao, but in doing so destroyed many important alliances.
