Currently you are setting out with your companion golem to sweep the town for any other outlaws. Scanning the alleyways through the town, you find nary hide nor hair of anyone, bandit or otherwise. You can through cottages, storefronts, as well as a lumber yard and an inn, and find nothing to be out of the ordinary, at least, not that you would assume, seeing as you have never been in a town proper in your short existence. As you begin to make your way back to the church to alert the citizens of the village that everything is safe, you see an odd change, one of the shops doors have been forced open, and the lock lays on the ground. This wasn’t like this when you first patrolled here. What do you do?
>>32361572Send lefty around to the back door, and enter through the front.

>>32361712As I understand it, lefty hasn't left our side.
>>32361712>>32361820Indeed. Lefty has been by your side, and under your control, for the duration of this expedition.

>Scout: Exterior>Command:Lefty:FlankYou spend some time canvasing the entrance, and find a small squad of people inside the shop, which seems to contain a rather large collection of tomes. One is clothed in a black robe, and seems to be directing four pale creatures, who are rifling through the books, ripping them from the shelves to show to the man, who, with a flick of the wrist, motions for the creature to toss them away. You can't get a good look at either the robed man or the creatures, but the creatures look human in nature, except for a rather loped gait and stooped posture as they rifle through the collection of knowledge. They break. After the beating each falls to the floor, unmoving. You may short work of the now prone minions, crushing them easily beneath your heavy feet. As for the leader, well, your tools don't morph into anything as abstract as manacles, so you take his hands in your's, and crush them. Your reading into spellcasting has alerted you to this method of restraining a spell user. As for a gag, one of your companion's digits firmly clamped over his mouth should suffice.Dragging or carrying the thief to the church, you announce your presence rather loudly, and again you are greeted with the assumed lord of the town."Who is this? Another bandit?" He asks. What do you do?

You think for a moment, and then turn your attention to your captive audience."Wizard, if you begin to cast a spell of any sort, my companion shall end you before it is finished."You mentally order Lefty to shift his finger to the throat of the spellcaster, "What is your interest in the book your minion was holding? It and your contents. Speak and you shall live, don't and you shall die."The spellcaster speaks quickly, fear in his eyes. "I work for a bandit lord, leagues from here! He ordered me to retrieve a rare tome from the shop here for his pet sorceress! They planned on selling the villagers on the black market in a coastal city to the west. It's all I know! I swear! >>32364625This implies that once the bandit lord hears of his subordinate's failure, he's going to send another attack at the village. Probably bigger than the one before. So, we need more information on this bandit lord, his sorceress. Available forces, any enemies they have, how long it'll take them to organize another raid, that sort of thing.

"Were these bandits part of his force, or hired to aid in this attack?""They are part of his band. Just the newest recruits and chaff." "This information is troubling, as your story indicates that once this bandit lord does not hear that you have returned, he will send another force to secure his prize. What do you know of his available resources?""His band numbers in three scores more! Most are chaff, as these here were, but some are well-trained and hardy. However, I and his pet are the only spellcasters he holds sway over." He looks to you, fear in his eyes. "I mean, only her now.""What is her name?""Elasa." He says, quickly."You shall identify the book when the time comes." You turn to the lord. "How much need I give to obtain this book?""Nothing at all, dear fellow!" At the cost of probably sounding like an idiot, do we gain back the health we lose after battle or do we have to manually repair it.
>>32365478As a golem you must repair any damage done to your form. It's a fair question, since it hasn't come up yet. Your current health total is 24, with a maximum of 25.
>>32365478>>32365521Plus, magic. So, not really a stupid question.
"Will you be able to muster any relevant force to defend against this possible incursion?"The lord thinks for a moment, concern on his features. "No, I do not believe so. We lost nearly a dozen able-bodied men in their original attack, and where our current position, while advantageous for trade, does not afford us the traffic to hire any significant mercenary force. I could form a rough militia of a half dozen men, at best."You nod. "I will return in the near future." It is then that your hear a voice, "Red, there you are!" You turn to see Tomas jog to meet you. "Sorry I took so long, there were more injuries than I had thought." He looks at the situation for a moment, before turning to the lord."Hello, Sir Festik. I hope everything turned out well.""Oh, Tomas. Is this a friend of your's?"The two go on like this for a minute, before you, Tomas, Lefty, and your detainee return to the bookstore. The creatures are still dead, and you bring him forward to collect the book. He does so, and you promptly confiscate it.After this, you begin the walk back to the tower, while flipping through the book. It seems to be a spellbook of sorts, though in what tongue you cannot decipher, though through some of the charts within you can muster that it contains a number of spells of the necromantic variety.Within relatively short order you find yourself in a considerably more cramped Parlor. What do you do?
>>32365521You know it kind of annoys me that you are calling us a golem when we're really more of an automaton.
>>32365593I'd like to run a quick test with lefty - see if he can send us a mental ping if a certain condition is met. Like, tell him to ping us if tomas says something, then ask tomas to say something. If he can do that, we can just assign him to guard the spellcaster and inform us if he tries to speak. After that we should probably repair ourselves and see what we can do to obtain supplies for building more golems.
>>32365593Give the spell caster a choiceResearch with us or we let him go but if we find him again he will suffer a fate worse than death
>>32365607In all honesty, most definitions of golem I have found equate the two terms. It's a minor difference at best, with automaton often being used to describe a being who moves on its own accord through mechanical means. You can argue that magic is a mechanism, but I won't go there.
>>32365830I'm really not sure why people are interest in releasing this guy. We should either use him as raw materials or figure out a way to strike against the bandits using him. Letting him go servers no purpose.

>>32365663Let's do this
You first speak with the man, "You have two choices. You may stay here and aid me in my research, or you may leave. If you choose the latter, and you are found by me again, your fate shall be worse than death."The man immediately responds. "I'll research here! The only reason I joined the bandits was for lack of opportunity."You then attempt to experiment with a momentary test. Instead of instructing Lefty with an immediate action, you instruct it with an instruction for the future. You instruct it to alert you through your mental bond when Tomas next speaks."Tomas, speak.""Huh?"You then feel a definite tug in your mind, brief but noticeable."Thank you.""Erm... okay." He looks at you, head tilted slightly, before ascending the stairway and out of your view. You are now in the company of your new researcher, Lefty, and yourself. What do you do?
>>32366089Leave lefty to guard the Spell caster, and tend to your wounds.
>>32366089Ask tomas to work with this guy to decipher what they can about the book. Keep lefty with them, give it a command to smash the wizard if he attempts to hurt Tomas. Inform the wizard of this condition.Go repair ourselves.
>>32366089Also ask the wizard for his name.
>>32366089Send Lefty out to gather clay.Go to the study to read more books.
Repair self, and ask Tomas to see if he can create another Golem with the Materials that we have.
>>32366354Second.At the very least see if he can compile the materials. He doesn't need to animate it.
>>32366388Why would we ask tomas to make it when we're obviously better at it than him?
Voting is over. Actions taken:>Order: Researcher: Unidentified Tome>Order: Lefty: Sentry: Researcher>Speak:Tomas:Golem>Repair: Self
>>32366440Because we'd be repairing ourself.
We should research warform golems before we start making any more. Just making copies of ourselves for fighting the bandits is suboptimal.
>>32366440Are we actually better then Tomas? Shiet.
You instruct your new researcher to go upstairs with your companion to work on deciphering the tome. You order Lefty to protect Tomas and to execute the man if he attempts to harm Tomas. "My companion has orders to destroy you if you harm Tomas. Do not make him execute his orders."He nods very quickly, takes the book, and walks up the stairs with the book. You walk up the stairs, finding Tomas in the Study, and ask him if he can try to create the body of another stone golem. He says he can try, but it will take some time for him to learn to create it as well as you can. While Tomas hits the books, you set about retrieving some stone from the storage room, and begin to repair yourself in the forge.-10 units of stone from the storage, 270 remaining.--End--Thanks for playing everyone, had a lot of fun running. I don't know when I will run next, but if I had to guess it would be within the next few days. Just keep an eye out around the usual time (9:00 CST).Plug for twitter, in case you missed it in the OP: https://twitter.com/GolemQuest
>>32366534We built a near perfect copy of ourselves in a few hours. I don't think tomas could do anything near that.
>>32366534We don't even know if Tomas can make Golems. And either way, we don't have enough material for any more golems. We'll need more stone, and we'll need to research fighter golems.
>>32366557>He says he can try, but it will take some time for him to learn to create it as well as you can.See? It'd be a far better use of his time to research spells he can cast to defend the town. Not waste his time making suboptimal golems.
>>32366557I will just point out that we broke both his hands when we originally restrained him. Thanks foro running, Pinn.
Archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/32361572/I will be around to field questions for a while, if there is interest.
>>32366615That's why I chuckled while writing the final post.
>>32366650Do we even have enough materials right now to make more golems?
>>32366671If Tomas reaches Craft: Golem (Stone) II, yes, as it provides a 10% reduction of materials used, and a Stone Golem requires 300 stone, base. Now, whether he is that fast of a learner? Well... you'll find out.
>>32366671It took 270 stone to make lefty, so we have enough to create righty.
Just a quick note on the whole Lefty thing. I hope you all know that it still does not have a name in game, as I had only created the term Lefty to give myself another way to refer to your first creation.
>>32366716I had a feeling it be something like that. Which is why I really don't want him wasting his time on that. We're already at that level and have time to get better.
>>32366759I'm still hoping we can figure out a way to fully integrate other golem bodies into our consciousness, so he might never need a name.
>>32366766If it turns out to be suboptimal, the "research" options can always be swapped. We'll find out next thread.
>>32366805If you were a Flesh Golem, and found out how to do that, this could be Golem: Borg Quest
Man, I wish I could have participated. Oh well, another time then.
>>32366865I think the bandits will be a bit intimidated when a dozen war golems come out of the city and all speak in one voice "I AM TANKRED. OFFER NO VOILENCE HERE AND YOU WILL BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE ALIVE. STAY, AND YOU WILL BE PURGED."
