OPENING>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F468us4qCUEPreviously: A Young Rocket went on a rescue mission to save civilian lives from a shipwreck out at sea. To her surprise and dismay, the ship's repel-tech system had been compromised by a breach in the hull, setting the stage for unknowns to lurk within. After witnessing an older ranger die in a split second, the young Rocket committed to killing the perpetrator and following another to the source.Meeting with an Esper leader of the brutal sea monsters, the young rocket attempted to talk down the hostiles, interrupted by the intrusion of a Tentacruel that sought to drown the ship.Escaping with her life and her friend, the Young Rocket was swept away be a powerful underwater current to a land far and unknown.Awaking upon a beach, she found herself to be lost and alone. In seeking out her friend, she met Kurojo of the Kahkori and his mentor, Mukon. As fortune would have it, the friendly humanoid "monsters" led her to their home, Kakarkiko village with promises of assistance in finding her friend.Spending too much time idling, sunset caught them by surprise and the Young Rocket, along with a scared young boy set out into the dark. Finding her friend, and slaying the dreaded Nar-Kage in the process of return, she secured her new friend's position as a man and hunter, while making a name for herself amongst the tribe.Though she fell ill, it is soon time for her to awaken to continue finding her way home! >>31875591Reporting, Prof!I am excited to "get to know" the Smolodhans!
>>31875591time for barfights and losing time.
In the port village of the last island before the city, you've made a pit stop in a local dive populated by ferrines and Kahkori natives. The smell of island brew, roasting berries, veggies and meats permeates the seasalt establishment. The roll of the ocean's waves is felt even inside this lodge, the creak of wooden planks and the bustle of villagers heard all around.Yet with the arrival of an obviously unwelcome party, the dive itself effectively goes quiet. What had once been a hustle and bustle of cheery food, drink, and rolling bone-dice has quickly turned into hushed chitters and meows in native tongue rather than a common language.Three armorclad beasts walk in, foot-claws raking against the planks and their demeanor of an ill and sour nature. As they set their weapons down, taking seat at a table that's quickly evacuated, one bearing a light and loose armor looks to you, the click and clack of metal against metal as his chainlinks shift. His eyes scan across your visage, causing him to give an amused and curious scratch at his bearded chin with long and wicked claws, a wonder they don't cause him harm. He says something about a smolodhan before puffing out smoke from his nostrils, a mocking smile curling across his black feline lips. He says something about a kahkori, laughing as he utters another word, “Tropius.”This is the one that fired upon you.Marine quickly understands and gets up, clenching her fist,”Hey, who the hell do you think ya are shooting at people like that!?”
>>31875882your trip prof!
>>31875882Kurojo gets up from the table, putting himself between Marine and the smolodhan as he rethinks his plan to sit, instead staring at Marine like some kind of morsel to crush. “Marine, shtay back.” He says low.The Smolodhan stops in his tracks, ears flicking at the unusual language. The others are alerted as well, their interest piqued. One says something to the gunner and it growls back before two of the three look to you, and the gunner's eyes scan over Kurojo's Long Blade.“No'shop katan, petit Kahkori,” A less gutteral voice purrs from the one wearing heavy green scales, it flips its visor up, large eyes smoldering like embers.“Mie sha' hokunta.” Kurojo defends himself from a demeaning comment. The Smolodhans still approach, more growling common tongue to Kurojo, interrogating him.Marine pushes against his palm, while you stay in your seat, trying not to look at the giant cats. You kind of understand why the Rynnians thought you were a Smolodhan. You look a lot like them between your ears and teeth, only... Their fur seems to occur naturally in black, orange, and yellow with contrasting splotches decorating their coats. Then there's their horns. They run backward upon their head. The leaner one seems to have its shaved a bit shorter while they still poke through its strange armor.Kurojo's backing down from their growls...> Tell Kurojo it's okay if the three of you leave now...> Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.> Shoot the gunner with water, they don't like it right?> (Other)
>>31875900> Shoot the gunner with water, they don't like it right?Fuck these guys
>>31875900did that smolodhan just speak FRENCH?> Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.I want to shoot water, but they haven't started QUITE yet.
>>31875900>[x] Shoot the gunner with water, they don't like it right?
>>31875900> Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.Maybe throw up a Snarl while we're at it. Kinda seems like the Smolodhans are interested in Kurojo's stuff. Backing off may be bad if they're as bad as Kurojo seemed to think they were (honorless, I think he called them?).
>>31875900> Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.> Tell Kurojo it's okay if the three of you leave now...
>>31875900>Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.Stupid language barrier
>>31875900>[x] Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.
>>31875900>> Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.
>>31875900> Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.Well, if they could be likened to Devon at best and are as bad as Kurojo described them to be at worst, we might want to stand our ground here.A snarl and a water gun may be useful... Who knows whether they'd really start a fight in the bar. We MIGHT be safe, though, if playing games and talking with the sailors have garnered us any good will from them.
>>31875900> Tell Kurojo it's okay if the three of you leave now...> Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.Ive got the feeling we aren't done with them yet, regardless of the outcome. Lets not endanger our chances of getting a boat out of here.
As a note:I recently reduced the skillpoint cost for Aura to:Cost= The Current Rank.Only fair since you need Aura combat to apply Aura to combat rolls.
>>31876068Cool.>>31875900> Get up and ask Kurojo what's going on.Stan Ground.
You stand up, Facing the Smolodhans, staring them down. Their attitudes, no, their presence reminds you of Devon. Backing down like Kurojo's doing... It might just make things worse. The beasts watch you as you rise, they leer at you harshly, though not without a bit of intrigue. The other patrons of the bar watch the scene unfold, the tensions running high. You put yourself beside Kurojo,” Tell me what's going on.” You keep your left side forward, your armored arm ready to guard. The one in red bellows out what sounds like a laugh, seeming to ridicule you for your smallness.Kurojo's eyes flicker between you and the aggressors, “They shoot Tropis. They wonder what baby Smorodhan does with a Kahkori.” He pauses, “They want to eat Marine.”Marine's eye twitches, “Eh?” She pushes past Kurojo with her enormous strength, nearly knocking the two of you over. “You wanna eat me? You want to eat ME!?” Marine saunters right up to the infernal cats, staring it down, err, up in the face. Forcing their gunner to stare down.He snorts smoke, laughing as Marine holds her ground. He says something, and Kurojo replies quickly. The lean one points, and asks her own question, to which Kurojo halts in responding.“What did she ask?”“They are not shtupid. They want to know where you come from. Words different.”The green armor huffs out fire from her jaws, repeating her word with a growl.Kurojo doesn't know how to respond.> (Your move)
>>31876341"a small town called none of your damn business"*water gun*
>>31876341we're from the mainland. we think.we sort of drifted away from a shipwreck so we're a LITTLE lost, okay fire-breath?
>>31876388There's a difference between intimidation and starting a fight.
>>31876449its a pre fight one liner
>>31876341>They wonder what baby Smorodhan does with a Kahkori.>baby SmorodhanHahaha. Oh man.Anyway, let's see...>You shot us down, you insult my friends, and threaten to eat one of them. If you wanted to just talk, you could have started off differently. Then Water Gun the girl with OUR mouth.
>>31876477Except a fight isn't want we want right now. We want these assholes to back down without causing a fight in the middle of town where their cannons would cause a lot of collateral damage. Not to mention we have no idea how we would do against them.
> [x] Say nothing.
>>31876341>>31876506Heh. They think we're a Smorodhan. So does Ceru have a reasonable idea of what the Smorodhan are like just from this short interaction? Maybe acting a bit like them would help.
>>31876506So... let's try to act like Kitty/Devon? I'm up for that. Worked once. Maybe it will again.
>>31876540Ask kurojo about this. Language barrier presumably goes both ways.
>>31876577Oh, I was just thinking to have Kurojo translate for us. He seems like he'd follow Ceru's lead.
>>31876577Wait, no, It's the shared tongue with kurojo that they sort of speak isn't it.Dammit.
>>31876613The Kahkori can mimic any race's language, I believe. We never heard what the Kahkori's language was, though, so this is presumably the Smolodhans' dialect.
>>31876510if people like it, then it will get supportedif they don't , then it will be ignored.this goes by a majority decision, not unanimous one.you don't gotta hammer down every opinion different then your's you silly
>>31876662I wasn't "hammering down" anything. I was trying to say why I thought doing that would be a poor choice. (though using "we" there was probably a poor choice of words)Not all options are equal, and each of us has the opportunity to argue our point.
So:>"a small town called none of your damn business"/>>31876506 leading into a water gun.>Try acting like one of them even though you don't speak their language.>Challenge them.
>>31876725well, I'm leaning towards fuck these guys due to1. Killing our tropius2. Almost getting Kurojo killed3. Threatening to eat Marinethey better say or do something PDQ if they want me to have a different opinion of them>>31876791just the "a small town called none of your damn business" linehold off on the watergun....for now
>>31876791I'm not really into challenging them. Drop>"a small town called none of your damn business">water gunAnd I'd be fine.
>>31876791Ehh, I guess. Aggression/mimicking them seems good, though I'm not sure about actually attacking them.>>31876820I agree with the sentiment, but Don't really want to fight them with all that's been hyped up about them.
>>31876791hold off on the watergun until they touch us, or kurojo.there's a timing for these things, and it will be sweetest then, and it's not worth it if we don't do it right.
>>31876791I'm thinking just>>31876506And replacing the Water Gun with just a Snarl.
>>31876791Sounds good to me.
>>31876855>>31876860yeah, replace with Snarl, save water gun for later.
>>31876860>And replacing the Water Gun with just a Snarl. This
>>31876855>hold off on the watergun until they touch us, or kurojo. What about Marine?
>>31876791No watergun until they actually touch us or one of our friends. Not sure what exactly you mean by "Challenge."I don't want to start a fight unnecessarily, but don't want to look vulnerable, so I'd like to just stand up to them.and regarding the snarl votes, I don't like that either, it's how you start a fight with between dark-types and won't actually give us any advantage since they seem to rely on their weapons.
>>31876942if they go for marine, -punch- them.
>>31875591Oh, you're taking a week off of work.Not questing.
>>31876942Water Gun to, yeah?
>>31876975Off of questing... next week.
>>31876942Let's do a Lock-On first, if they so much as touch Marine we Icicle Gun
>>31877001You want them to be out for blood?Errr...MORE blood?
>>31876975No, uh. He's taking a week off of questing too. Maybe work as well? Who knows. This and the Sunday session are not next week. That may be why you're confused.>>31877001No Icicle Gun just yet. Water Gun to ward them off. If things escalate, let THEM be the ones to do so. We don't want the bar patrons to think we resort to violence first.
>>31876068Isn't Aura a passive thing?
>>31877045You're thinking of Detect.Everyone, however, gives off an aura. Everything with life. The Aura stat just lets us tap into abilities related to it.
>>31876791>act like one of them even though you don't speak their languagePretend to be a lost baby, or something.
>>31877085Hehe. Oh man.I don't know why, but just thinking of them referring to Ceru as a lost baby Smolodhan makes me chuckle.
>>31877018nah. don't listen to icicle gun guy.we're sticking to bar brawl levels of force, and ONLY if they start it.
With a curl of your upper lip, you pull back into a snarl, flashing your fang-like teeth, far whiter and pristine than theirs. “I'm from a small town of none of your busine-”The female growls at you, and in what seems like two steps, she's cleared the room, standing over you, and snarling down herself. As she towers over you, you get the distinct feeling that... She's far more experienced than you.She utters a harsh word or two and Kurojo taps your shoulder,”No teeth.”You close your lips and the female instantly calms down. By now some of the patrons have paid and excused themselves. The barkeep, just keeps on watching with their own policy of pacifism. The female leers over you, sniffing, her tail flicking in irritation as she puffs out a tongue of fire to burn the scent from her nose. She seems to grimace with confusion as she looks to you, then turning her eyes to Kurojo.“You guys think you're tough, don't ya?” Marine shouts, and pushes the gunner, sending him rolling onto the floor, popping up onto his hands and feet with an amused snarl.“Mari- Ceru-” Kurojo panics looking between the two of you.The Gunner digs down into the floorboards, a throaty, amused growl to go with his delighted stare, “K'aije mi poisson!” He roars and pounces onto Marine, sending the two of them sprawling...> Open fire on the female before you.> Pull the gunner off of Marine!> Have Kurojo tell them to go before you get mad.> (Other)
>>31877268>> (Other)KICK the guy off marine.
>>31877268> Pull the gunner off of Marine!
>>31877268>> Pull the gunner off of Marine!
>>31877268>[x] (Other)SHOOT the gunner off Marine
>>31877268> Open fire on the female before you.> Pull the gunner off of Marine!Spray them with water first to shock them, then pull them off.
>>31877268>She seems to grimace with confusion as she looks to youHeh.> Pull the gunner off of Marine!Nothing overtly hostile just yet. The female, who seems like a senior, doesn't seem like she'll attack us if we don't start first, so the same can probably be said for the second member with the big slab of a sword. The gunner could just be a rash, younger member of her hunting party. Just pull him off Marine and try and direct him back to his group, away from us.
>>31877268>>31877409> Pull the gunner off of Marine! This for now. As soon as we pulled back the Snarl, the female became less hostile.
>>31877268spray water. Pull off.
>>31877268> Pull the gunner off of Marine! If he looks like hes gonna hurt her, we should spray him.
>>31877268>>31877409This.If, after we pull off the gunner and he looks like he's about to shoot some fire on us, we can spit out a Water Gun to douse him. Only if we need to.Water Gun hits hard, right? Since it is what propels our Icicle Gun. So we don't really want to use it unless we have to.
>>31877499We could probably use it at a lower power, just to douse them, if we wanted to.
>>31877268> Have Kurojo tell them to go before you get mad.Aka, come get me bitches, we can take you on.
>>31877523>>31877499it's variable pressure.we've used it to douse friends. and shoot high pressure water cannons.
As Marine and the Male tumble, their combined roll smashes through tables and chairs, causing the barkeep to finally hit the limit of the tolerance and screech, causing the giant felines, and you, to shudder in pain at the noise. When it ends, the female before you and the other male in red armor give the keep a harsh glare. The gunner on Marine, pulls back a fist to strike her from a mounted position. As you recover, Marine blocks the blow, blasting the male with her own water gun, making him recoil and hiss. You close the distance and grab him by the tail, feeling the heat of his body coursing strong even there. He turns back to deliver a backfist and you bring up your left arm's guard, giving him another yank before marine kicks him off, sending him flying back, a wet hissing mess.As soon as he lands, he surges back to his table on all fours just as the red male's getting up. The Gunner makes a reach for his weapon and the red male brings a fist down on the back of the gunner's neck, forcing him into the ground with such force it cracks the wood and shakes the pier-based hut.You look on as the gunner tries to get up, only to be stepped on by the bigger, stronger male. He looks at you through his own visor, eyes gleaming a hot red. He utters a cool, calm word despite his naturally guttural and aggressive tone. At least, you feel that. He seems to be apologizing for his younger member. The female takes one last look to you, and turns to pick up her entirely too large slab of weapon and leave, ushering the other two out.The red one, hoists up not only his own weapon, but the gunner and his cannon, leaving through whence they came, dropping some of the bone currency onto the bar-keeps counter. This gets an approving nod.
>>31877930Not quite clear what they have against Tropius, but alright.
They're probably getting 50 of their closest friends for round 2skipping town real soon is probably the way to go
>>31878092The gunner was the one who did it. Seeing as how the other two were rather more rational and restrained here, he probably did it on impulse and over-excitement.
>>31878092Food.They like to kill a bit of everything.
Kurojo finally relaxes as Marine gets up, panting with a mix of fear and exasperation,”What the heck was all that about? Who even does that? Are they Devon or something?”You watch the beaded door,”Sure seems that way.” Turning to Kurojo,”So, can you tell us what they said?”As the three of you leave with dusk fast approaching you find that the female was asking about your origin. The gunner's the one that mistook you for a baby, but that was him joking. When Kurojo had said that they shouldn't be on this island, you find that they are literally disallowed from hunting on this island. In part because of the Tropius that visit here. If the Tropius choose not to come, then the Kahkori have no way to make it here.“Well, what about from here to the city?”“We need to take a boat. Other island did not have boat, this one does.”“What about the Sharpedo?”“Sharpedo won't swim here, current too strong. They hate it.” Kurojo looks to the sky,”Boat come in morning. I hope.”“Where will we stay?” Marine butts in, still looking kind of sore about the Smolodhans, even though the three of you have been walking the piers for a bit.“I find prace.” He cringes at his own accent. The three of you wander around for a while, Kurojo chatting up some other Kahkori in the area. Eventually the three of you find some free lodging, eat a light dinner with some Kahkori hospitality and morning comes again.Time to find a boat!> The big one with a large sail and ten oars on each side.> The medium-sized one with a large hole in the front, a sharp implement sticking partway out.> The sloop, small and fast, it should get you to the city fast.> (Other)
>>31878157>“I find prace.” He cringes at his own accent.Heehee.>eat a light dinner with some Kahkori hospitality and morning comes again. What? So the place was manned by Kahkori?> The medium-sized one with a large hole in the front, a sharp implement sticking partway out.A weapon on the boat? Sounds good.
>>31878157> The medium-sized one with a large hole in the front, a sharp implement sticking partway out.Probably medium speed but durable enough.I'm still curious about that kakohri female at the tavern. I think she was some kind of hook.
>>31878157> The medium-sized one with a large hole in the front, a sharp implement sticking partway out.MON-STER HUN-TERWHEEEEEEEEE
>>31878157what are the rates on the boat?Is the big one like the cheap mass people mover?> The big one with a large sail and ten oars on each side.if we're just choosing on which one we like, though, then > The medium-sized one with a large hole in the front, a sharp implement sticking partway out.
>>31878229What? Was there some sort of reference in these choices?>>31878218>I'm still curious about that kakohri female at the tavern. I think she was some kind of hook.Oh we'll probably meet them again. Maybe in the city. Going by the description Prof archived this thread as, the bulk of this session is going to be focused on sailing.
>>31878157>[x] The medium-sized one with a large hole in the front, a sharp implement sticking partway out.go medium or go home
>>31878251>the bulk of this session is going to be focused on sailing.WHEEEEE!how bad does Kurojo wanna swab Ceru's poop deck?
>>31878157>>[X] The medium-sized one with a large hole in the front, a sharp implement sticking partway out.
>>31878251Its a dragonship.MH uses a device called a dragonator as a weapon against massive monsters. Its mounted on ships, castles, whatever. Its basically a giant drill/harpoon, it shoots out, spins, and retracts. In game, it takes significant time to warm up before shooting, and has a massive cooldown, but is utterly devastating in terms of damage.I'd post an image, but they're all tiny, it seems.Look up the Jhen Mohran fight for an example.
>>31878157>> The medium-sized one with a large hole in the front, a sharp implement sticking partway out.
>>31878157> The medium-sized one with a large hole in the front, a sharp implement sticking partway out.
I have to wonder if picking the ship with the dragonator is what's going to cause us to need it, or if we'd be fighting giant sea monsters anyways.
>>31878738Probably a flavor thing.
>>31878738Lets be honest here - Regardless of whether or not it'll increase the chances of finding monsters, its going to come down to an encounter roll, and we will crit-fail it.
>>31878788You said it.
The three of you approach a ship that Kurojo's pointed out, “A Ranger's Boat.” He says. More like a Ranger's ship, you think. You sally up to the docks, avoiding the ferrines and Kahkori loading the ship. You see that they're all either working together to carry a load or carrying only what seems reasonable for them to. After a while, Kurojo calls out in a Kahkori's call to draw the attention of one of the dockworkers, receiving Kahkori chirps and chatter in return before the worker whistles up at the deck of the ship with a following of tweets and chirrups. The worker nods to Kurojo and carries on with his work.Kurojo relaxes, “Reader coming down. We speak. Need to pay something.” He jingles his purse, last night's gambling has made it noticeably lighter. You don't quite understand why anyone would use bones for money though... Credits would be better... if they had computers. You see a familiar form stand upon the poop deck, peering down at you before leaping down, landing upon all fours to disperse her weight upon the planks of the pier. She rises, coming to stand before you three and combing her fingers through her feathers. It's the female Khakori from last night. She eyes you with stunning yellow eyes, that take in yours and Marine's unusual appearance. Her feathers are a dark blue, free of any stain of sea salt that the workers bear. Her form is strong, though with a feminine curve and it speaks for her confidence.Kurojo can barely talk when she finally looks to him, speaking in the same common that the Smolodhans had been speaking. He nods, and seems to explain your plight, how the three of you are going to the city, and are in need of a boat. With a cluck of her tongue she holds her hand out, and Kurojo passes over his bone-purse. Hefting the weight, she clucks her tongue a few more times before outright chuckling and handing the purse back.
Kurojo grips the purse and looks a bit forlorn. Before you even ask, “She say it not enough. It pay for onry two of us.”“What? O-oh...” You frown, maybe you shouldn't have gambled last night? Then again, he could've said no...The Azure Female raises her brow. “It pay for only two.” She mimicks, nearly flawless, nodding her head with intrigue before chattering to Kurojo again.“This is Sheru, she is not from here. She from far away.”“Sheru...” She starts.“Cerulean, actually ma'am,” You bow a little, Kahkori style. “We need to charter passage. I need to go to the city to get home.”“Yeah, what Ceru said. Kurojo needs to come too, can't you let us on?”The female seems amused, clucking her tongue some more as she examines you two, she speaks their common again to Kurojo.“Hunting boat. She says. She might ret us ride, but we have to know that... And she wants to know where you're from.”> Tell her...> Keep it secret.> Show her the index.> (Other)
>>31879205>[x] Tell her...she's our ticket home
>>31879205>She might ret us ride, but we have to know that...Know what?Well, just say what Ni'Rena said. We come from a city hidden behind glass.
>>31879255Know that it's a hunting boat.
>>31879273Ah. Know that we ride a hunting boat and that we're expected to act appropriately.
>>31879205>[X] Tell her...
>>31879205>> Tell her...we don't know. we think the mainland. Big ol' hidden place.none of these islands are familiar at all.
>>31879205>Tell her...we come from the city behind glass. Do not be specific.
>>31879179> Tell her...We're from thew mainland from a city beneath a dome of glass.
Have we ever explain to Kurojo that we stick monster parts into us?How the whole implant process works?
>>31879398Nope. We didn't really share all that much information about our home except this>“The dome is my home,” You admit, breaking the confidentiality. “It's the city that I said that I was from. It's on the mainland and I need to get back home.”>>31879205Can we ask Kurojo if this Kahkori is from his village or from another Kahkori settlement?
>>31879205>> Show her the index.
You swallow a little, holding your breath a moment as you cosider what you're about to tell her along with the consequences. Unfortunately you're going to have to bear with them if you even want a shot at going home.“I come from a city hidden behind glass...” You begin, feeling the female's eyes upon you, reading everything about you as you speak. She's definitely experienced... And much more serious than even Mukon. She rolls her hand for you to go on.“It's far away on the mainland. I really need to get there. That's why we need to go to the city.”“You need go to city. I can't go to mainland.” Her eyes seem to ask you for some sort of approval, and you nod, confirming that you understand her. “We get to city.” She drops your tongue and chats with Kurojo a bit.He comes back to you, “Your mainrand isn't city?” He seems a bit confused and disheartened. The whole situation's confusing and takes some time to resolve. In the midst of it, the female picks up some words.“You come with me now, Marine, Cerulean. We get you to city. Pay rest later.” She holds her hands out to you and Marine. “I Dhovaki.”You and Marine look to each other for a moment, exchanging hopeful smiles before shaking her hands,”Thank you, thank you so much!”
>>31879716kurojo, the mainland is a term for the largest landmass nearby.it's not the name of our city.what IS the name of our city?
>>31879823Are you looking for input?Or are you still writing? And don't be worried about the lack of activity, we aren't getting bored, everything's fine.
>>31879936>No one is arguing>Worried people are boredHeh. I figure he knows better.
>>31879936Well. I'm bored. We've pretty much just been in a set-up scene for a while. Just doing other stuff while waiting.
>>31879999Yeah, i'm just telling him that slow times are fine.He doesn't have to insert drama and action and suffering to keep us here. Slow times are fine.
>>31879716Wait, is Kurojo coming with us?Kurojo had better be coming with us.
Anyone up for upgrading Rest?
>>31880057He's coming with us.

The three of you board up later in the day, walking up the gangplank onto the slowly rocking boat as it's beat by the gentle waves of the sea.Dhovaki gives the three of you a brief tour around, showing you collective quarters for your stay upon the boat, a gong in the middle of the ship that she warns against hitting it unless a monster attacks. She gives you three rules of the ship through Kurojo:>No fighting with anyone else on board.>If a monster attacks, you're expected to help fight it off.>Stay out of the crew's way. With that, she leaves you to your devices, going off to her own quarters to do whatever it is that she must do.The three of you stand upon the hunting boat, course set for the City among these islands... Picking a spot out of the way of the Kahkori and Ferrine foot traffic, you seat yourself before the mainmast and look out to the sea, Marine and Kurojo sidling up alongside you and taking on a similar seated position.Kurojo acquainted you and Marine with meditation to soothe the mind and sharpen the senses back in Kakarkiko village. Now you do it here as you wait to arrive at your destination.“Gonna fall asleep again?” You whisper to Marine, ushering in a playful jab from her elbow.“Not this time,” She gives you a smirk and closes her eyes.Kurojo chuckles,”You two get arong good.”Marine rolls her eyes open,”Well duh, we've been friends since like forever!”“Have you got any friends like that, Kurojo?” You ask, looking at him as he sits to your right.“Since forever?” He scratches his tusks at that,”Can't shay forever, but I used to pray with other kahkori. Hana was a friend too.”“What happened?” Marine's nosy personality just doesn't let her quit.“Grew up. I chose to be a Ranger, and needed to train more...” You hear a tinge of regret in his voice.“You can talk to us Kurojo, it's okay.” You say with a little smile.Kurojo's crest lowers, with a little dismay finding its way into his aura, “Rangers... Don't rive rong shometimes, and they traver a rot. Keeping friend makes it harder.”
You listen to his words and turn in on yourself. The same thing holds true for back at the dome... Some rangers become heroes and gym leaders while others die young... Like Nana... Like the goldeen sister... You can't even remember her name anymore.Marine's at a loss for words, and instantly shuts up. You open your mouth, “I know what that's like Kurojo. It's the same for our city hidden in glass. Rangers aren't expected to live a long time. I've seen some die already.” You feel your lips tremble into a smile as some tears push out that you wipe away,”It's a miracle that I didn't lose Marine...”You start to tremble and actually cry a bit. Marine wraps her arms around your neck, pulling your fluffy self into a hug, she cries too. Neither of you really wanted to say it but, neither of you should even be alive right now. That's scary.Kurojo watches you as you cry yourself out, hesitant to lend his hand, he closes his eyes,”We have a rot in common.” You feel him begin to meditate, his aura stilling itself. After fixing your face, you do the same with Marine, passing the time.Eventually you hear everything moving upon the boat, rocking, and the rush of the sailors getting things ready to leave the moors.>Letting out some of your stress has bolstered your Aura to rank 3! This allows for aura based skills to be improved even higher! Before the ship sets sail though, you feel a familiar three presences board the ship.Kurojo gets up and you open your eyes, seeing Dovahki leading around the Smolodhans from before. The gunner grins at you and Marine, his burning eyes flaring with his keen interest. Why are they here too?> Avoid a scrap. Awakening from your meditation with a much more apt understanding of the world around you, you feel more... in tune.Standing up alongside Kurojo and give him a tap on his arm, “Hey, I'd like to say something.” The bird holds his crest back at that betraying his distaste as he looks at you and then back to the Smolodhans warily. The gunner snorts flame in response to the look and elbows the female carrying the obscenely large sword to get her attention. He's returned with a sudden snorting snarl as the lean female immediately grabs the younger male by the throat. She seems to utter out a throaty growl before pushing him to the side, forcing him to gag out smoke. The female looks to you three and says something to the red male, he mumbles something and seems to walk over to you three, yet walks past without another word, his strange weapon hanging heavily off his back as he stomps off to the cabins, ignoring you entirely, as though you're not even worth the time.If the female gave you the sensation of experience, then the red male... He, you don't know what to make of him.The female approaches and you offer a slight bow,”Ready Kurojo? No fear, okay?”You can feel the anxiety dripping off his feathers even as he stills his voice,”Okay.”Marine locks eyes with the Gunner, yet he stays back, a quick growl from the female assures that. “I don't like them.”“We don't need to like them. Just need to get along.” You say offhand. The female calms herself, a deep breath as she quiets out that burning rage, yet it still seems to fester beneath the surface, like a fire that just won't go out. She speaks rather softly, though inquisitively, asking about you, and how the three of you and why you're on a ranger's boat.
>>31881564We need all the stimulants. All of them.
>>31881652Kurojo relays the same thing back to you when you realize that you already got most of the message.“We're going to the city.” Kurojo translates this for you and the female seems to be intrigued. She asks what a not-Smolodhan and a... fish? Are going to do at the city. Kurojo answers for you suddenly, saying something about the three of you being rangers. The female stares at him for this, the gunner laughs at her back, about how such children couldn't be rangers. The female turns to hiss at him, stomping up to him no more than three steps before he starts to panic and wrap his tail between his legs. The female stares him down, like a challenging predator daring him to make a move before finally letting off.The female grabs him by the tail and drags him to the cabin at his front.Marine blows a razzberry at him as he's dragged by, receiving a sudden snarl in response before the female yanks harder, converting a snarl into a yowl.>It's getting kind of late as the ship sets sail...> Go below deck and get some grub.> Go to the galley and eat.> Keep meditating atop the ship.> (Other)

>>31881700> Go to the galley and eat.If I recall correctly, Kurojo was rather young when he was accepted by the rest of his tribe as a Hunter, correct? At what age was it that normal cadets in the dome's gyms are able to participate in missions? When they graduate and become full-fledged Rangers? I suppose there isn't really a direct correspondent to Rocket cadets, huh?
>>31881725>> Go below deck and get some grub.>>31881725so smelling salts and pain killers?
>>31881763The galley is the ship's kitchen while I presume going below deck to eat would lead us to where our beds/hammocks are.
>>31881700Let's not mooch until we prove ourselves useful.
>>31881725Prof, Kurojo was able to detect life around him, right? And we can detect life too? So combined with our enhanced senses, would we presumably be able to target (and Lock On) to targets hiding behind walls or barriers?
>>31881725>Fainting>needs a Max Revive, an upgrade to something that restarts hearts, to alleviateWhat are the conditions for fainting? Being in so much pain that you collapse? Or do you just have to swoon and you need to be administered a Max Revive?
>>31881842The captain told us not to interfere with ship detail. She told us we'd pay her back after we arrive at our destination, so I presume she'll want us to do some sort of errand or task. Hunting, maybe. Hunting for bones?
Kinda wish Kurojo asked about the dome a bitI wanna see Kurojo's reaction to stuff like the forest test (rite of passage test for the Dome rangers)
>>31881902Sheer Cold would be an example of a move that causes someone to faint (heart stops beating). The situation you described is more akin to what Marine and Ceru went through when they were washed away in the sea, so an Awakening would suffice for the situation. However, if the force of impact is strong enough, someone's heart could stop. So I guess a Revive could be considered a stronger version of Awakening in this setting.Other than a difference in extremity, there doesn't seem to be much of a distinction between the two. Maybe if Revive restored some stamina too?
>>31881907If that's the case it should be fairly easy. Anything that doesn't resist being impaled by ice rods is going down. How many of these hunters have a quiet, deadly projectile attack and the aim to use it? We're probably pretty okay by their standards.
>>31881700>> Keep meditating atop the ship.
Can't wait to fuck up some particularly dangerous beast with Marine, showing them implant powers and Ranger training.See if that asshole and the dickwad will keep on laughing or look down on us.
>>31881964Sheer Cold freezes you solid. That means death because freezing destroys tissue.
>>31882096Dude, I am super hype for Marine's Blastoise evo.She is gonna be the best turtle girl ever.
>>31882104Nope. Freezing only destroys tissue because the water forms crystals inside cells. Freeze fast enough and the water doesn't have time to crystalise.
>>31882163Huh. So I guess Sheer Cold really would be useful for capture operations.
>>31882199Thawing the target safely would still be a problem though. Moreso with sheer cold not really being proper cryogenic freezing.
>>31882142she'll out dakka us
>>31882163Pretty sure that's false. But i don't have the science to back it up so whatever.
>>31882199The issue is unfreezing. As soon as you manage to thaw the outside the inside will cool it down, only this time it'll be slow and traumatic. It wouldn't surprise me if they had devices for this purpose, but it's not something we can do in the field.
>>31882245She'd be the artillery to our sniper rifle.
>>31882288Well, we wouldn't want to thaw anything out in the field, so it'd be up to how advanced Poke-science is.I wonder what sort of equipment Rangers even bring with them to haul back their captures?
>>31882291we're too midranged focused to the second coming of Simo Häyhä imo
While Kurojo stays on deck to meditate, you head below deck with Marine to check out the Galley, mess hall, place where they give you some grub! As you head down, the ship sets sail, finally released from its moors and catching the wind to pull it out a bit steadily. You feel the waves rocking the boat and the sailors adjusting the sails for a better catch of wind.Below deck, there's a certain amount of warmth from the wood around you, and strange materials that you'd never seen before holding these planks together... some kind of yellow sponge. It wasn't quite as visible on deck at least. The mess hall has its own warmth with Kahkori sailors sharing food and drink with each other, the Smolodhan hunters minding to their own end of the table, the female keeping her eye on the youngest among them while the quiet one in red's finally taken off his winged red helm to show black fur dappled with white, longer hairs at the chin forming into something of a beard, and a scar from his forehead trailing across a dead eye and over a cheek. He looks at no one, talks to no one, and most of all he ignores the insufferable whelp at his side just as much as the chattering of the Khakori and meows of the ferrine crew. You and Marine seat yourself on the other end of them, and partake in some of the food. To your surprise, it doesn't rock like the upper deck. For some reason everything else within is unnervingly still.Without Kurojo to translate you're stuck with listening to the Khakori more than anything as they carry on with their banter in that weird language. It's not like the chatter and chirps from Kakarkiko. No, this one is of consonants and vowels. It's something you could learn, or even say. The Smolodhan speak it too aside from another gutteral tongue they use amongst themselves.
>>31882332We've been focused on fighting mid-range, but that doesn't preclude our long range capabilities.

>>31881700>Kurojo relays the same thing back to you when you realize that you already got most of the message. It took me this long to realize that raising Detect to rank 3 just allowed Cerulean to instinctively understand the meaning of the female's words just like the Kahkori. >>31882502>Imagine what his duck-fetching mission would've been like, Then again, Cinnabars aren't allowed in the Veridian Preserve/Wood.Yeah, you said that they did a different thing for their test. >>31882633Unless it's the part of the forest that is required to be burnt down regularly.
You pick up on words here and there, eventually assembling some phrases even as you enter a near state of meditation, letting words and their meanings assemble themselves to you. Marine does it a bit too when she's not busy stuffing her face with fruit and berries. It takes most of the dinner time, but by the end you learn most of the common... for sailors. You might be able to actually communicate with the Smolodhans without Kurojo now...You try out some words with Marine, but it's kind of lost on her. After dinner, some of the crew retires to bed, whilst the others head up to man the ship.Kurojo comes down, talking with the captain in Kahkori chatter. He's talking about something that happened back at the island, and how he proved himself as well as what you did.“Ahoy Kurojo, ye be tellin' th' lass 'bout me frightful 'venture 'gainst th' Nar-Kage?”Kurojo stops talking all of a sudden and stares at you, his eyes going wide and nodding with his beak hanging open. “You speak the island tongue now?”“Aye, picked it up liken I picked up some swag. T'll help fer th' city, aye?”“Ah, yes Sheru... Yes it will.” He seems to chuckle, actually amused by how you're talking, though you aren't quite sure with what's wrong with it. Marine's just totally lost at the native dialect.

The three of you head to bed. Another night in a strange place, another bed. You take a deep breath. The air... Well, it tastes good. Nothing like the dome. It tastes really good. Not filtered or stagnant. It made you feel kind of sick when you first landed on Kakarkiko, but that could've just been because you really caught sick...You lay in your hammock, curled up with Marine to save space with the two of you being smaller. The Smolodhans are in another cabin without hammocks. In this one, you've got Kurojo in another nearby hammock sleeping soundly.Well, at the very least you're another step closer to going home. Another step closer...The next day at sea comes and you find that the sails are hoisted up, the boat finding its way smoothly via the currents. >>31882851>>31882853>>31882870>>31882872>>31882883>>31882886>>31882904did we actually not mess up
>>31882909Rolling under means we would encounter something. Rolling 86 and above means nothing.
>>31882907I could actually take this and call it initiative unless you guys would rather not have a sea battle.>Pre-emptive strike by all hands on deck!>Peaceful waters.
>>318829511Yo man, I kinda want a sea battle. It feels weird, especially since we rarely succeed encounter rolls, but you know.
Rolled 97>>31882951>>Peaceful waters.More meditation
>>31882965There's opportunity in the future.
>>318829511I normally hate AoPH fights, but what the hell.We should get loot and praise from it, assuming we don't get shipwrecked from a few horrible rolls. Plus, we have amphibious combat to ever so slightly help.
>>31882951I kinda want to have a sea battle. Just to show the Smolodhans that Cerulean means business.
>>31882951>>Peaceful waters.Ehh, feels kinda stupid to waste one of our few successes
>>31882951We REALLY do not need another sea battle.
Huh. A seabattle it is then.
>>31883005Well, it's more like a retcon to a pre-emptive strike instead. So now the encounter would have changed from something we would have wanted to avoid to something that the captain has decided we want to attack.
>>31883021The ship's equipped for it, we have the initiative, and we have the cats helping.
>>318829512Let's really not.I wanna work on our Aura some more.
>>31883025Indeed, which fits that she wanted to let you know that it IS a hunting boat.
>>31883021How much longer are you running anyway? This might have to carry over to next session.
>>31883034Takes up time that we could be working on our Aura.
>>31883048It gives us experience in exchange. We currently have 3 exp, so this battle should at least let us upgrade both Quick Attack and Aura Combat.
>>31883043I was planning for this to be the last post. Next session is Sunday, so it won't be an entire week, but then it'll be an entire week. Also, from an rpg standpoint, I'd think of the upcoming monster as one of those waypoint bosses that just fundamentally try to block you from the next destination. And yes, it'll be worth some good exp.
>>31883058>It gives us experience in exchange. We have plenty of that. We've been getting that for a while. And we've been kinda stomped because of it.
>>31883040tear out its heart, win respect through adorable bloodshed Ceru
>>31883069Cool. So we'll start off the next thread with the battle, finish there, and presumably continue on with whatever other activities you have planned for us on the sea. This actually works out for me the best since I have to leave now.>but then it'll be an entire week.Heh. Messed up there, Prof. Did you mean to say that we won't have to wait an entire week for the next session since the next one is coming up on Sunday and that you won't be running next week?
>>31883106>>but then it'll be an entire week.>Heh. Messed up there, Prof. Did you mean...Aye.
>>31883106Professor Yggdrasil @AoPHquest May 1Taking next week off for my own mental health. Might come back with a nice surprise.
>>31883069Sounds good Professor. While you're posting, I wanted to ask some junk. You doing alright n' all? I don't think I've seen you take a break...well ever, so a week off, while totally understandable, has me concerned.
>>31883122>a nice surprise.dreamlands quest?classy nudes?homemade brownies?Garygoyle Quest?
>>31883122Uh, yeah. That's what I said.
>>31883130Well, aside from some stress in the real and juggling three quests I wanted to see about doing some writing that I could be doing if I wasn't running.Wanted to try to churn out a short story or something.See, I took a look at my worcount total for AoPH and Over(human) Both aren't even fully logged in my word documents and they each count for a full-length novel.Makes me think, because this is the one thing I've liked more than games in a long time.
>>31883169>Wanted to try to churn out a short story or something.Ah yes. I understand that allure very well, Prof.
>>31883169have fun with the crippling self doubt!
>>31883169Go for it.
>>31883186Oglaf?That was a funny and terrible one.
>>31883169>Stress in the real and juggling three questsI warned ya man.Glad you're a stubborn bastard, cuz I enjoy them, but still I warned ya.Totally deserve a break.>Try and churn out a short storyHm. Well that is interesting. Think you're gonna pastebin it? I'm sure not all anons would want to see, but I wouldn't mind.Course that's up to you, n' all.
>>31883207It was okay.I like the dwarves. Not enough stories portray them as mad tinkerers and inventors.
>>31883208>Think you're gonna pastebin it?Planned to, because the subjects going to be more for here anyway.
>>31883224>Planned to, because the subjects going to be more for here anyway.Oh? So a short story separate from the events going on in the quest?
>>31883242>>31883224I can dig it mate.
>>31883207just saying, nothing makes one question one's ability and self worth like writing (well maybe alcoholism, mental illness, and being in love)Its never that bad and its never that good.one bit of advice they always toss around is kill your darlings.
>>31883293Someone's gonna need to explain that one to me.
>>31883328the kill your darlings bit?
Standing upon the deck, you walk back and forth upon it, marveling at the odd squish the planks return when you set all your weight down on one point. It's a really odd material. It's like a sponge, heck, it's even kind of wet, yet somehow it doesn't let in any water from the outside seal, and the decks below are effectively moving on their own, or at least suspending the inner decks from the churn of the sea.The sky is rather clear save for a few clouds, and the sunlight coming down isn't exactly unbearable. In fact, it makes you kind of smile.Kurojo's on the deck, watching the sea, and Marine's taken to helping out some of the sailors with simple tasks. The smolodhans stay below deck, away from the occasional spray of the sea.The captain walks along the deck with her own casual swagger, standing at the fore, next to Kurojo, scanning the waves. She seems to notice something, and get excited, whistling for the entire crew. In the ensuing common you hear, “Pesoth off the starboard bow, all hunters on deck, we've got a beastie to take on!” The call is repeated by the next of the crew closest to the cabin, and you feel the innards of the ship move with activity. The Smolodhans are getting ready...Wait, hunter means you too, doesn't it? “Marine! It's time to kill a monster!” You call, and your friend drops what she's doing to slide in alongside you as the captain grabs a spear. She ties a rope at the end and flies up the mast on Kahkori footholds befor launching the spear into the water with a blue surge, hitting a creature that quickly flies up into the air, sailing on wing and fin as it shrieks.
Another new monster... Like a cross between a dragon and a fish this time. It's yellow in fin and blue in body with as many wings and fins at it takes to sail through water and sky. As it thrashes, you see that it's head is far more fish than anything else, and what legs it has are actually rather developed. An amphibious creature. The Smolodhans hit the deck, the female armed with her oversized sword resting upon her plated shoulders, the gunner loading in rounds that spark between his red and yellow glows, and the red slowly taking the hunk of metal and bone from his back. The slab of components extends along a handle, shifting into the form of an axe, only to be quickly shifted with the backend of the ax sliding up and over before riding its way down along a single edge, locking itself into that of a great sword humming with an immense force locked within. All hands are on deck.>End Thread
>>31883349been awhile since writing class for me but ,iirc, basically a writer gets caught up on a character, prose, or some writing element and try to make it work in the story when it actually hinders it.basically, don't play favorites. try writing the story without it a bit and see how it goes.hence kill your darlings.I think William Faulkner coined it.>>31883391thanks for running and good luck on that story.
>>31883382>>31883391Good thread man. Look forward to trying to slay more Mon Hun shit.Playing this quest makes me want to buy one of the Mon Hun games, but I have no cash for it.Some notes I had:>Scene with Kurojo and the girls bonding over the Ranger thingPreddy gud. Really liked that bit.>Got Aura from meditatingDidn't know we could increase it that way. Is that a one time thing, or no?>Ingenuity rollAwesome. We really need more rolls like that, it feels like Ten and Cha get all the spot light>Sunday gameCan't wait.>Week offHope you rest up n' shit.
>>31883409Huh.So basically>Write outside your comfort zoneBut fancier and more poetic sounding. I can dig it.
>>31883409That actually makes a lot of sense. When I first brainstormed Overhuman there were two major classes of Magic, Arcane and Elemental with Bones being part of arcane along with other phenomenon and elemental being everything physical and shit.I was hung up on one character that was a real self-insert at the time that turned into a total mary sue.>Arcane power was Aura.>Limited to 5 feet of expression unless he used something to act as a medium/chain it together.>Decided his dad would manipulate electrons.>Decided that he would learn that shit.>That he would use electrons as a medium>For spirit lightning>And Alchemy>And use a sword that he converted into 100 shards with spirit lightning making up the rest of the blade when extended. This was all when I hadn't a real clue what a Mary Sue was.Oh, and...>His mark was white eyebrows.>>31883433>>Got Aura from meditating>Didn't know we could increase it that way. Is that a one time thing, or no?Yeah. It was from getting rid of some baggage along with meditating. Reward for the event itself as much as the learning pirate in the mess hall.
>>31883440I think its more about self editing but that works too.peer review is usually better for critiques and judging your work anyway.
>>31883474Another thing about that character...His template's become Veins, his multiple ridiculous endgame powers have been effectively split up among lots of other characters. The setting is better without him ever actually existing.
>>31883474>Yeah. It was from getting rid of some baggage along with meditating. Reward for the event itself as much as the learning pirate in the mess hall.Sweet man. Sounds good. Can't loud fear, sadness and pain cloud our mind.
Should we level up Aura Combat since we have aura 3 now?
>>31883579Eh.Detect is more important then that. I'd prefer to level up quick attack. Or better, Water Gun.
>>31883612Or Ice Shard, since that would level up Icicle Gun the same amount that Water Gun would, and it would do it for a point cheaper.
>>31883474IDK if you're in college, but consider taking a creative writing class if you haven't already (and I'm not saying your bad at this). Most colleges have one and they're relatively an easy A (well mine were, as long as you do the work), have easy access to peer review, maybe even learn something. and ,on a personal note, nothing boosted my own confidence more than reading some of the drivel my classmates handed in.regardless, best of luck and have a fit girl pic
>>31883623That's a short-term investment, though. Water Gun is better in the endgame.
>>31883579>>31883612Aura Combat applies to all combat rolls, effectively meaning it is as good as upgrading all of our other attacks for the cost of 2 points.
>>31883839Doesn't mean we should ignore our other skills.I wanna get Hydro Pump eventually.
>>31883863I'm not saying ignore our other skills, I'm saying that's a bargain for 2 points and just as effective as a level in any other attack.(though it doesn't work against flyers, which aren't exactly uncommon, such as the plesioth we are currently fighting. I wonder if all flying type effects only apply while they are physically flying, isn't that what prof said about the elec weakness? That would make sense with the fact that it doesn't count as a type for rejection considerations.)
>>31883914Eh fair enough. I wonder if we'll get Ice Beam when we go Dewgong. It'd be nice to have a beam attack to direct ice, instead of doing AoE only.
>>31883914>any other attack.Actually, it would be as effective as a level in -every- other attack.
>>31883943We have a single target Ice attack; Icicle Gun.And we also have Frost Breath.
>>31883957Yeah but Icicle Gun is a projectile, and Frost Breath is a CQC move.I want a beam weapon for longer range pin point stuff. Plus Ice Beam is super powerful.
>>31883943>>31883957>>31883974Dewgong line learns Aurora Beam, which I believe Prof confirmed upgrades into Ice Beam.
>>31884104Aw man. We're so far from upgrading that worth a damn...
>>31882348>some kind of yellow spongeLudroth waterproofing, wonderful>>31882650>“Ahoy Kurojo, ye be tellin' th' lass 'bout me frightful 'venture 'gainst th' Nar-Kage?”oh god, a little girl talking like that.>>31883382>Pesoth off the starboard bowohh...fuck. KILL IT, KILL IT WITH THUNDAHwhat did we say about spamming MH creatures too early?I haven't played much of the amphibious MH, but I advise Kurojo and Marine to go for a knockout while we aim for the exposed belly.
>>31881765That damn church choir.
>>31883391>Like a cross between a dragon and a fish this time.Yum!
>>31884909Too bad we still have to evolve the first time to get the second evolution, if it even counts as a dragon.
>>31885104I highly doubt it counting as dragon. None of it's abilities are dragon-related.
I'm a little surprised the entire thread passed by without wanderer showing up
>>31885617Well, no one asked about him. And I don't think he's the type who draws attention to himself unnecessarily.
>>31883391Woo. Finally back.A bit late to say this now, but thanks for running, Prof. It was a pretty good thread. The beginning was a bit slow, but you got the ball rolling by the end. I haven't really been into this arc overall, but I enjoy the prospect of more action.Also.>The slab of components extends along a handle, shifting into the form of an axe, only to be quickly shifted with the backend of the ax sliding up and over before riding its way down along a single edge, locking itself into that of a great sword humming with an immense force locked within.I'm not even sure if this is a MonHun thing, but this reminds me so much of some of the weapons from No More Heroes. Stylish.
>>31886426It's a switchaxe, straight from Monster Hunter. Turns from a greataxe into a greatsword. Now that I think about it, what loot can we get from a Plesioth?
