A project by /tg/ to make a system that combines two of the best giant robot universes into one RPG. >>31854928So far, we've got general rules for combat and character creation, along with a general mock-up of the character sheet and a possible title page if we ever made a pdf of this.
>>31854928So how much of Thread 4 was archived? Just wondering? Checking it out now and it seems to be missing the character sheet concepts and stuff.
>>31855712Everything was archived. I need to remember to put in the OP:>The thread numbers are off by 1 due to the first archived thread being a different title than the current thread.
>>31854928We got any writefags in here ready to contribute to fluff?
When I was a kid, whenever I'd feel small or lonely, I'd look up at the stars. Wondered if there was life up there. Turns out I was looking in the wrong direction. When alien life entered our world, it was from deep beneath the Pacific Ocean. A fissure between two tectonic plates. A portal between dimensions. The Breach. I was fifteen when the first Kaiju made land in San Francisco.By the time tanks, jets and missiles took it down, six days and 35 miles later, three cities were destroyed. Tens of thousands of lives were lost. We mourned our dead, memorialized the attack, and moved on. And then, only six months later, the second attack hit Manila. Then the third one hit Cabo. And then the fourth. And then we learned this was not gonna stop. This was just the beginning. We needed a new weapon. The world came together, pooling it's resources and throwing aside old rivalries for the sake of the greater good. To fight monsters, we created monsters of our own. Two separate programs were approved. The Jaeger and EVA programs were born.
Honestly, I really need to sit down and flesh out an actual intro to put in the OP. Something involving the general history and mechanics of the game.
>>31854928weird Idea. But how about we make a sort of d100 Name gen kind of thing? Rolling two D10s to make up a name for a Jaeger, just to get that wordsalad aesthetic you get from Cherno Alpha or Gipsy Danger.
>>31856690Oooooh, random tables! I love it. Though we'd probably need to make them d100 each so GM's don't have to worry about repeats.
>>31856690This seems to highlight how little fluff we got for Individual Evas actually. Just looking at the wikipage for JaEVA project you see complex data and backstories for Santo Machismo and Shrike Vector, but our three EVA's we fluffed out in previous threads don even got their tiny bit of fluff to go with em? Except for the Won Armed Wonder. Even then its just the name. So yeah maybe some Eva or Nerv Focus this thread?
>>31856795I agree. We've had some nice PPDC Stories in the last few threads, but no Eva or Nerv stories.
>>31856758What you don't want to pilot "Gypsy Gypsy?" or "Typhoon Typhoon?" What about Eureka Eureka? Otherwise should we separate them into blocks of 10 or something? like People>Gypsy>Striker>Brawler>Ronin>MatadorAnimals>Coyote>Shark>Puma>Mammoth>HydraPlaces>Rio>Mars>Corinthian
>>31856888I'm writing some fiction in this 'verse, focusing on an Eva pilot.Don't expect it right fucking now, though. Right now I'm typing up a plot outline.
>>31856795Alright! How about EVA Unit-05. One of the early production model Evangelions, Unit-05 has seen many pilots over the years. However, its first pilot, [REDACTED] the Seventh Child, (we don't talk about the fifth) seems to have left an impression on what little remains of the Eva's mind. Whenever Unit-05 Beserks, it seems to take a more refined stance than normal for a rogue Eva, and has less trouble identifying allies. It's rumored, although only where command can't hear you talking, that it even obeys general orders to the best of its ability. Where this precision and almost training comes from is anyone's guess, but there have always been whispers that the Seventh Child's grave isn't empty because she wanted to be cremated.I'm not to good at writefaggotry, more just lore writing, but this is what I've thrown together to give one of the few early Evas still running some life.
>>31856888I dunno, do we *want* to do much with these units and stories? It seems like the more you add, the less there is for a game to actually take place around. I mean, if you were actually going to play this as a game, rather than as a setting/thought experiment, do you want to play as X Eva Pilot who uses X Eva and these are his personality traits, or do you want to make your own dude up?I.E. there should be points where you specifically say, "There is room for Jaegers here and Evas here, and they could be PC's or something."
>>31856900Oh no, I want to avoid a GM running multiple campaigns, rolling up new Jaegers each time and getting Vega Foxtrot or something every time.
>>31857318The way I see it, we're trying to write as much of a setting as possible so that any prospective GM can pick and choose what they want. We'll make sure to mention that any and all back-story and history we write out is purely to give the GM and players ideas generated by a bunch of different people.Since this isn't really a canon setting in any way, I can't imagine there being much of a fuss if someone wants to override parts of it in their own game.
>>31857318Like all fluff, its there to add flavour, and can be taken or discarded as the GM/Players see fit.
>>31857318Yeah what >>31857492 said. We want to get some "General Idea" about the universe and have these act as example characters and maybe histories to build around. IE players at panama are expected to start salvage for Santo Machimso while the pilots are incapacitated as they run into some conspiracy stuff regarding Eva Unit 08 and its prototype "Otachi" Flight system. Examples that can be woven together to create a feel for the campaign world.
>>31854928Where is everybody? We doing stuff in the IRC chat or something? I need to get a client set up. Maybe I'll whip something written up to keep interest?
>>31859188I've noticed things have quietened considerably since someone brought up the IRC. Maybe everyone went there and left /tg/?
>>31859240where is the IRC? and also whats a good client?
>>31859372I don't know, I can't get on there myself.
>>31859388>tfw I started the first 3 threads and now I'm out of the loopo-okay
>>31859404You and me both brother. I helped codify the whole concept.
>>31857652Hmm, let's see if I can do something for Unit-08:After the first flying Kaiju came through the rift a noticeable flaw became apparent in the world's current defenses. The lack of powerful ranged options meant that Nevermore got farther into the mainland then any Kaiju short of Trespasser. While the PPDC's options were limited, NERV decided they could possibly mimic Nevermore's own flight. Paying top dollar to have much of Nevermore's upper body shipped to the Berlin Geofront, NERV began research into allowing an Evangelion to fly. Of course, there were more than a few detractors to this plan. A giant robot is scary enough, one that can fly is even scarier.Eventually, NERV realized that if they wished an Eva to fly with its AT-field, they would need to give it wings as a base. Thus, was Unit-08 born. With two fleshy wings attached to its back, it resembled the archetypal devil to those who saw its profile. >>31859404>>31859426Sorry guys, I forgot to put that in the OP as well. >irc.thisisnotatrueending.com>#JAEVAI don't know if its currently that active, I need to get in the habit of opening it up.
>>31859453How do I make it work? I'm maximum pleb
>>31859453>irc.thisisnotatrueending.comI'll give that a look after I find a new client. Otherwise yeah thats nice Unit 8 fluff. Does it do the power cable thing too? Or is the incredibly risky "S2 Engine" making a comeback with unit 8?
>>31859547Well, shit I might have forgotten that particular point while writing this up. I'll think on it in the morning.>>31859519In whatever irc client you use, I'm using mIRC because I didn't feel like shopping around, find the list of servers and click 'Add.' When it asks for the server itself, type 'irc.thisisnotatrueending.com and put 6667 where it asks for a port. Once you've set that, just click 'connect to server' and you should join the suptg irc server. From there, type /join #JAEVA into the chat box and it should open a new miniwindow for that channel.
this post was not replied to in our last thread (at least before being archived) so i'll ask it again as we do need a consensus on it to begin character creation: getting back to the rules: it currently takes 1294 character points to become god. by god i mean having 5 dots in every skill and attribute, full health and full willlpower. now obviously no campaign should last long enough that every character gets to this point, but what if we gave players a baseline start of 225 character points, and 25 points every level they grow? so, they'll start out with meager stats, and get better as time goes along, upgrading a couple dots each level (you need double the exp of your last level to reach the next level, i.e. lvl 2 is 5exp, lvl3 is 10exp, lvl4 is 20 exp, and so on) i think that gives decent progression considering the rate the system lets you grow (1 level every 2-3 sessions, depending on how active they are) thoughts? will this work? can we get some people to test this and see what characters they can make at level 1, maybe break the system?
>>31859655Thanks this my first time using IRC
>>31859763Can you post the character sheet? And Maybe I might give it a try. exp is the same as character points? Just checking? Is it possible to mark these numbers on the hexes on the character sheet and block em in? Just random formatting idears. >June 6th 2016>A sunny dusty nowhere town in Waco,TX.>A car pulls in across from some graveled patioed small house towards the outskirts of the town. >A woman starts getting out of the car, a cell to her ear.>"I don't see why we need to do this.">"The man has been flooding our inbox voicemail for months on end. >/tg/ gets shit done again>and it's yet another Evangelion parody, fancy that. We've seen some interesting systems made on /tg/ since it's inception, but the stuff that doesn't even try to disguise it's using copyrighted IPs rubs me the wrong way.
>>31862572Using an established setting/IP is easier than scratch making one, who knew
>>31862572patlabor x evangelion confirmed next /tg/ project>patleva>evanlabor>patevanlaborgelion10/10 grognard seal of approval
>>31862583And besides, Scratchbuilding IP's via committee is just a recipie for mediocrity.Good intellectual properties all have one thing in common; Unity of visionAnd that means either being written by one person, or a tight group that has a good idea of what it's doing from the start.
>>31862572>>31862583>>31862596>>31862668Come on guys, can't we just have fun?Monty Demands it.
>>31862736YOU DARE INVOKE THE NAME OF MONTY!!!HERETIC!!! BURN YOU FILTHY MONGREL!
>>31860415it's on the wiki, but here you go. character points are not EXP, EXP is how you gain levels, character points are used to upgrade your character's stats. you get a certain amount (undetermined right now) every new level you hit.unfortunately i don't have space for RP stuff more than the info that effects the gameplay.>>31860525>Also! Should we have a character/npc sheet for Kaiju?yes, it is in the works as well as the eva/jaeger sheet.>>31862572really the system is for any sized giant robots, hell, you could make size 1 metabots for all the system cares. though the rules make it clear that eva/jaeger sized stuff is the norm. there's nothing stopping someone from using the system for any other giant robot setting.
>>31859763Alright, so I just did the math, in order to become God with that character point and exp system, you'd need to reach Level 44 with 21,990,232,555,520 exp. I don't think we'll need to worry about that happening. O.O
>>31865397how did you figure that? i'm still looking for an amount to give to players per level. 225 was the starting value i was suggesting but hadn't tested yet.
>>31865397fuck me, i just read the damn post correctly. sorry, it's early and i was up late.
>>31864368>there's nothing stopping someone from using the system for any other giant robot setting.Well if there is anything its some of the inuniverse terminology like RABITS and the Insanity focus. Although such a thing can probably be refluffed depending on the setting, or disregarded entirely, kinda like whether or not a robot has a "Personality".
>>31866230hell once we get a robot sheet together maybe we can test it out making other robot properties?Giant Robo? Big O? Jet Jaguar? Symbionic Titan? Something Combletely Bloriginal?
>>31865529level 1: 0 EXP, 225 character pointslevel 2: 5 EXP, 250 character pointslevel 3: 10 EXP, 275 character pointslevel 4: 20 EXP, 300 character pointslevel 5: 40 EXP, 325 cplvl 6: 80 EXP, 350 cplvl7: 160 EXP, 375 cplvl 8: 320 EXP, 375 cplvl 9: 640 EXP, 400 cplvl 10: 1280 EXP, 425 cpat level 10 (most likely the maximum a campaign would go to) a character could have nearly 7 attributes out of 9 at five dots, or 17 out of 22 skills at five dots. this seems like a good amount of progression, especially when gms can hand out a character point here and there for doing creative things. >>31866230i suppose i could change that to "triggers", i just used it because i liked the terminology and wanted to avoid the inevitable x card jokes that would be wasting space on the thread.
>>31866379Hey don't worry about it. I prefer RABIT just cause its ... well fun to say. And Like I said a creative GM wanting to do a different Giant Robot setting could just refluff them appropriately. The Leveling looks good lord crunchfag. I'll have to give it a shot now once I get back from the real world.
>>31866379I was a little worried about the exponential growth on EXP needed, but I actually kind of like that there's this glass ceiling of realistic human potential. You're life is only so long, and you can only absorb so many things at a time, so it makes sense that you'd need to take longer to learn new skills or practice new things without letting yourself degrade in anything.
just got some extremely constructive criticism from a GM friend of mine who makes pathfinder supplements, and i'll admit that the system, though definitely unfinished is a bit of a mess. things i need to fix: explain what the hell a target number is in the basics. (already edited)possibly make this a more generic game on a separate page from the fluff that allows it to be played in other or original giant robot universes. keep fluff optional, but also keep the names of the two pages related.the personality system is way too under developed. while i like it i think we should drop it entirely for the time being until we are able to create a mood shift system that allows the conflict/unification i was intending, without the stupidly low development this one currently offers. <-- this is one of the biggest hurdles, because it would work so well if it worked correctlyinsanity, among other related rules need to be consolidated into a single section.guidelines need to be put in for how much EXP characters get for killing a kaiju dependent on it's level, rather than just 1-5 EXP. Willpower needs to be scaled down to a maximum of 3 points of willpower put into any given roll. possibly change willpower to an extra die rather than an automatic success. Scaled ranges are a goddamn disgrace, and make little sense at the moment. more ranges may be needed or the simplified range mechanic may have to be thrown out entirely in place of a more detailed range or grid mechanic (i recommend using hexes rather than squares if we decide to do this on a grid)in addition to this, sizes make little sense when considering a massive size 10 kaiju is at a -9 to hit a child. perhaps change sizes to a 1 way mechanic, where being bigger only ups the amount of damage you do and lowers the amount of damage you take.Slow actions need guidelines on what can interrupt them. possibly an opposed roll instead of whatever the GM thinks works. contd
>>31862596I still think Armored Core has the most potential because of the contrast in how it handles robots (300 feet tall and costs as much as a small country vs. 30 feet tall but the average person can literally buy one over the internet) and kaiju ('aliens are attcking from another dimension' vs. 'guys broke into our bioweapons lab and let all the specimens out').
>>31864368That PDF is atrocious.
>>31866955go to the png on the page and feel free to fix one yourself.
>>31866820Not to great at this stuff, but I'll try to give my opinion. For the sizes, I'd say have the damage given and taken scale like you said. When it comes to giving/receiving hits, I'd say keep the bonus for small things to hit big things, but only penalize the big things if they're trying to hit only their target. Say, if Gipsy Danger had been trying to smash Otachi Jr. without destroying half the block.I'd put off separating the crunch and fluff till we get everything more finalized. For now, it helps to keep them unified. Once we get into the heavier testing period we can make a separate Giant Robot RPG page for the system. The personality system is something we really need to devote an active thread to trying to upgrade since it might be the staple of this system.I like the idea of a hex-based grid for this with some more defined ranges and speeds to help differentiate between slower and faster bots.
>>31866966What are the fonts used in the PDF?Also, is it final?
>>31866974Agency FB, and nothing is finalized yet. that was my prototype. check the last thread to see how we made it and get it's components. and if you do end up making one, please keep the hexagonal design for the dots and also keep all pieces of it on a single page.
>>31866974I'd say nothing is really final yet. In development terms, we're probably pre-alpha. Soon we'll be ready to test the base mechanics and make sure that stuff works.
>>31862771You mean that thing can talk?
>>31867563Um...no....But he might have harnessed the power of Speak-and-Spell. Haven't decided yet.
> More Eva fluff. In an attempt to harness the benefits of the Jaegers' dual pilot system, Unit 13 was constructed with an additional entry plug. Many Pilot Candidates suffered bizarre mental trauma during initial testing until the Twins were found. When the the unit grew a third arm weeks after activating it was considered a success to rival the Chinese Jaeger; when it grew a third leg less than two months after that, it was considered unstoppable. When a second head began to grow under the chest plating, it was sealed in bakelite and removed from active service. Careful testing continues...
>>31867647>Monty pulls the voice sythesizer off a broken down Jaeger>decides the female voice doesnt suit him>switches on the male voice>the male voice is WheatleyAnd that's why he doesn't talk much.
Is there any jaeger or eva similar to "iron giant"?
>>31866968>>31866820>>31866820Shit i need to start: requisition point amounts to be given and we need a more complete list of descriptors and a list of equipment.IMPORTANT: make the robot creation system and robot sheet. when making robot sheet include one damage track for each of the six hit locations (Head, Torso, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg) have extra damage for the torso, possibly less than average for the head. include several weapon/equipment slots for each location (3 for arms, 2 for head, 2 for torso, 1 for each leg) include the 3 physical attributes at 10 dots each instead of 5, include a single line for size, personality (might as well while it's part of the system), name, type (eva, jaeger other etc), cockpit location (usually either head or torso, unless you plan on pulling some voltron shit), pilot names, and any other details missed here. create kaiju sheet, include attributes or skills as a blank space instead of dots to save space, same amount of hit locations, changing weapon slots on arms to only 2 each, possibly adding a tail as a seventh option with a single extra weapon slot. >>31868019very basic one with a beam cannon on it's face and boosters on it's feet. (i literally remember no other weapons that it had)
>>31868161yeah, only iron knucklesbut the first AI equipped jaeger? lots of resources and unstable AI
>>31868222Sorry, the first AI Jaeger title goes to Jet Alone. Though I am wondering if it still had Rangers in it when it malfunctioned, leading to a possible Ghost in the Shell likelihood.
>>31868319Hmm, need to rework my thoughtsThanks, Monty
>>31868332You could go for First Atlantic AI Jaeger, we actually need to fluff the Alantic Breach Front.
>>31868347On that note, Texan Jaegar Big Iron and WaffenJaeger Silver Bullet Defenders of the Gulf of Mexico
>>31868161one more thing: Exceeding success effects for the different damage types.
>>31868347Atlantic? hmmmCant promised anything but will try
>>31868375>Big IronThat is fucking wonderful.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6s7afYOk_0 You can probably fluff a Jaeger v. Kaiju battle to this song. So yeah fluffing the atlantic. where is the Atlantic Breach? Is it northern hemisphere southern hemisphere? What are some good Atlantic port cities to consider? The Pacific Breach is in the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench right?
>>31868643Well, the deepest point in the Atlantic is the Puerto Rico trench, but that seems a little too close to land for a viable Rift point.
>>31868688Well that could mean its way more dangerous though. I mean either peurto rico and cuba and such become swamped by kaiju immediately or kaiju blue might be seeping out of it and slowly making the area unlivable or dangerous. I dunno its an interesting thing to consider. I mean the wiki page specidied tectonic plates too so theres other places that are further off in the atlantic that might work. But again, I kinda dig the "Breach nearest to land" Idea cause it opens up some interesting ideas for fluff. How do people deal with living literally a few hundred miles away from a breach as compared to a few Thousand.
>>31868725>How do people deal with living literally a few hundred miles away from a breach as compared to a few Thousand. They don't. Picture the Somme with Kaiju instead of Germans.
It's still shit, but that's because I should have made it larger.I'll upload the .odt file in a second.
>>31868922It definitely looks cleaner than the last version actually and it has selectable type which says good things generally. I guess if I had one complaint is that it uses the jokey thread logo rather than the Vanilla one. Is there a way one can make a sort of Art Asset pack and upload it to /tg/?
>>31868882>the SommeSo trenches, desolation, ruins of an attempted ground war against the kaiju in what used to be beaches and forests in these carribean islands. Lots of senseless deaths. Crap such a place would just be a veritable schmorgesboard for traumatized teen harvesting for Evas and Vengeful Adults for Jaegers. Said places probably can't support a shatterdome or geofront themselves since they are pretty much already ravaged.
>>31868922my only problem with it is the size of the things changed. can we see if that's actually big enough on the hexes in stuff like skills to be readable? other than that, REALLY good job. .
>>31868922>Animal KenWhat is that by the way? Just wondering? Is it the power to have awesome penguin roomates or the capacity to have a funny dog like the striker eureka team?
>>31869023Done. If you want the raw ODT, it's here: https://www.mediafire.com/?fxu2m7794mmgox8Couple of warnings: LibreOffice (I used the most recent 4.2) is dicks with large image files. If you're going to edit the document (as you should), delete the image first! I put it in the footer, but chances are if you click anywhere in the file, it will select the image. Just hit your "delete" button. Follow these instructions to restore it: http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/4683/full-a4-background-image-in-writer/ as your last step before exporting as PDF again.I made use of textboxes for the Damage Track text and for the vertical-direction text ("Attributes").The title image (JaEVA logo) is in a frame, and the image is anchored to the frame itself. The hexes are draw objects, and are treated as characters, so you can copy/paste them and change them on the fly. Unfortunately, they seem to leave shitty little dots at the edge of the drawing in PDF form. Also, the Damage Track hexes are misaligned forever. It might be a good idea to replace these with images instead of draw objects. Text should never be part of an image, though, unless it is stylized, because it's raster and not vector like all other typed text.I made liberal use of tables and nested tables. Most don't have borders (the weapon/equipment ones do). The table spacing (padding in HTML terms) (right click table->Table...->Borders tab->Spacing to contents) was modified to leave no spacing for the right side of the main table due to this font not being monospaced, so the unerlined spaces are not aligned and this made it a little bit better.I didn't use underscores, because fuck that noise. Underlined spaces is all you need, if you don't care about aligning everything perfectly. I would recommend changing this to bordered tables if it bothers you.
>>31869176comparing it, it would indeed be rea>>31869254it's supposed to be how well you work with animals. i'm open to suggestions on that one. i just wanted it in case there was some interaction with animals, as that is a possibility.
>>31869288I figure Animal Ken (Don't know what Ken is short for) could maybe used for comprehending animal behavior, and as such could be used on kaiju as a sort of perception stat. >Kaiju keeps its distance and its neck is starting to glow blue and Puffout.>Your Jaeger player(s) have a low Animal Ken stat and when they roll to try and figure out its doing, but fail.>The Eva player who poured more points into it rolls and succeeds. >The Kaiju in question sprays acid. >The succeeding player gets a little extra to dodge or something.Just an idea. It could indeed be used if you want to somehow put a dog in the pilots seat.>Okay Molly, lets do this. TOGETHER!>Woof! But thats me being stupid.
>>31869274Now that I look at both of them, I realize I just kind of made everything smaller. I wrote lecture notes with a .3mm pencil, so I don't really have a problem with writing small, but I guess whoever else wants to work on this can just up the size on everything. The "pixel-sized dots on draw images in PDF export" is a shitty bug, though https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37559
Also, I'm probably not going to stick around these threads to put out more PDFs. I didn't even read the rules or anything, I just noticed your terrible PDF and decided to help.I've provided the base file, so it should be easy to edit. I believe in you.Go get stuff done.
>cramming Eva together with Pacific RimOf all the mecha anything available that would've made an amazing combo with Pacific Rim, you just had to pick Eva
>>31869502Its mostly due to superficial similarities (Look of the Suits, Mind Melding, Monsters Attacking Humanity) and the fact that the original thread this started in was basically "Hey Guys would AdEva work for a Pacific Rim campaign?" We basically spun out from there really.
>>31869365Might be a hilarious joke campaign though. A purely dog piloted, quadrupedal Jaeger is a rather hilarious image.
>>31869631Whelp.I know what I'm statting up when we're done.
>>31869569But that's the thing though, they're superficial, there's a lot of stuff out there that would meld with something like PacRim better than fuggin Eva
>>31869695Well, once we're done with the actual system, you can meld anything you like with PR and make it awesome.
>>31869695Eva Fanboys Will Be Eva Fanboys. If it gets us a decent giant robot system and gets a buttload of enthusiasm from the community that forms around the big dumb cross over no skin of my or your nose. Just don't think about it.
>>31869695>>31869871It it helps, most of the focus has been on the Jaegers. NERV is mostly just Japan playing Unit 731 with the Kaiju.
>>31869977Which is a shame since this is supposed to be a crossover of the two. I mean I guess it might be because Pacific rim has a lot more to work with since Monsters attacking Everywhere allows for more places to develop their own approach. Evangelion the monsters only ever attacked japan, so there was only the one place and one system of doing things that got meaningfully developed despite there being supposedly Nerv bases in Nevada and Berlin.
>>31870238True, although most of the lore has been Jaegers and Ranger teams, which doesn't work as well with Evas since they're made from the same mold. I'd say we need more stuff like Unit-08 and Unit-13 where we describe their history and what modifications make them different.
>>31869871I'm all for developing a mecha system but this could've been done without throwing in Eva because of its name value. Hell stuff from Gunbuster and Diebuster would work better with it if you toned down their power levels or upped the Jaegers'
>>31870238>>31870365Kind of funny though if SEELE never really had any influence outside of Japan. Everyone else is just kind of watching Japan create their own Kaiju and wondering if they're planning to start another war when this one is over.
>>31869977Why is Father Jack so based?
>>31870238the rules (when finished) will allow crossovers of all kinds. i own both pac rim and eva stuff. i get the love and hate from people on both sides of the fence.
>>31869695>"Now, you're probably wondering why your new teammate looks a lot like a kaiju. Frankly that's a question for the lab boys. They're reasonably sure she won't attack you, but any new weapon needs to be field tested"
>>31870931ARSE! FECK! DRINK! WHERE ARE THE OTHER TWO!? FATHER? PRIEST!? DON'T TELL ME I'M STILL ON THAT FECKING ISLAND!
>>31871433Jack we're picked up a Cat. 4 approaching the island.Jack we need you to get in the Jaeger again.Jack, there a drink waiting for you in the conn pod.>Okay he's in. Quick, turn it on before he gets out.>"FECK">"FEEEEECK"
>>31871379Basically anything not Eva. Pacific Rim is a love letter to giant robots and monsters doing cool violent things. Eva had some cool giant robots and monsters doing violent things but at its core it was about depression, isolation, human relationships and the pressures of the modern world, all of this written by a deeply depressed man who threw in a bunch of judeochristian terminology to make it sound cooler. The two just mix about as well as oil and water unless you butcher Evangelion and take only its most superficial aspects. And by that point you might as well have used another franchise entirely.
>>31869631Has anyone ever made a zoids rpg? Is there one out there?
>>31871590>Cat. 4Ted, if it's a bad storm, couldn't we just throw some boards over the windows or something?
>>31872080It's not a storm, Dougal, it's aliens. We've been over this before.
>>31872199Ah, so.... Have they got machines that control the weather then?
>>31872259You're thinking of the X-Men there Dougal. The aliens just send giant monsters.
So there's a Shatterdome in Panama City and a Geofront in Cólon, right? Why are they doing this? For things the scale of Shatterdomes and Geofronts, supporting things like Jaegers and Evas, I'd think that you'd want them set up in places with established, large-scale industrial bases, and neither of those cities look like they have that.
>>31872876You are generally right but there is also the presence of the Panama Canal, which used to be a major industrial/trade zone that has essentially become a big weakness in terms of a kaiju war. Kaiju can stride right through it basically. Better for some fortifications put there for the sake of defense.
Alright questions about character creation! How do Physical Mental and Social Attributes effect Physical Mental and Social Skills? Like do points allocated to them carry over to skills and skills can be upgraded independantly from Attributes?2) The character sheet posted >>31869274 has the physical and mental attribute columns swapped. Mental is labeling "Strength Dexterity and Stamina" and physical is hovering over "Intelegence Wits and Resolve"3) as a way to associate skill bonuses should we have shortened labels from attributes next to the skills? Like DEX next to Weaponry and STA(mina) next to Survival and STR next to Brawl, as an example. just as a matter for allocating point bonuses.
>>31872451No, I'm fairly sure they're only medium sized monsters, Ted.
>>31873128Copying this from one of the older threads for reference in terms of character creation> 15 character points per attribute dot, 5 per skill dot, 8 per extra health dot, 8 per point of armor, 8 points per dot of willpower, 2 per +1 initiative mod.>you can get some extra character points by having triggers (an extra 5 per trigger, maximum 3 triggers to start, also giving you an automatic 1 insanity point each, but these can be therapy'd away eventually) and (if you want to) lowering your initiative mod (extra 2 character points per -1 modifier you take).>choosing between size 1-3 is free because it's a zero sum game with each having their own advantages (1 being child sized, 2 being normal, and 3 being freakin' built). personality is free.
>>31873128Perhaps attributes are Innate to the character and unupgradable. Thus they effect skills, which are learned and therefore can be upgraded.
>>31873305Where are health dots? Is that part of the damage track? Does blocking in each one hex with a negative number effect our extra points of health? is Health effected by attributes?
>>31873198Dougal,never mind. The important thing is that Jack's taking care of it.It's funny, you know he's quite lively when he wants to be.
>>31873514Alright Here is my attempt at filling out the character sheet. What do you guys think? Crunchfag you round?
Graphic Fag/Drawfag here. Presenting the quick mockup of the JaEVA head Logo.
>>31874348I will be the first to admit that it is basically a quick live trace in illustrator of some quick line art done over one of the earlier mock ups. so critique away. Should I rough up the shading on one side or the other? Make the lines look less ed edd and eddyish on Gipsy's brow and Unit 1's forehead? Block em both out into sillouettes except for the eyes? let me know. It be nice to know if there are people still in the thread too.
>>31874453Some sort of division does seems necessary. Do the shading thing, add color, or pull the olde invert on one side or t'other. Just enhance the sense that we are looking at two different faces rather than mechafrankenstein.
>>31873514sorry, i was out on a job. >>31874453you filled it out mostly right ( i see someone fucked up the mental and physical stat placement, it shall be fixed. the way you fill in health dots is from left to right, top to bottom. you automatically start with 16, and can buy the extra 4 with character points. cross out the ones you haven't bought yet like the hastily made pic related. when you reach the lines that say "-1/-3/-5" that's a negative modifier you take to all tests, this represents the pain you feel distracting you. hope that clears it up.>>31874348that looks fucking awesome, i don't even care if it's a trace. nice work. as for division between the two, i say have a couple versions, this one that's just black and white, and maybe one that's colored.
>>31875412goddammit, forgot the pic
>>31875433So the blanks are the extra stuff not the minus numbers? And each health hex gives 2 HP? Or no? Should we have a notifier for the Base max health? Like the dot right next to the 2nd row? then the upgrades would be applied via the first row? ... seems a little confusing notation wise im trying to wrap my head around it.
>>31873128points allocated to attributes do not carry over to their related skills the labeling just allows a player to know what attributes go with what skills when adding them for a roll. all attributes and skills can be upgraded with time. it's not as complicated as >>31873481is seemingly trying to make it. you can upgrade between sessions provided you have the character points for what you're trying to do.
>>31875686So the attributes do offer a modifier to the skills? Might be an idea to figure out which Attributes Effect which skills then. Kinda like how Dex affects Acrobatics in something like D&D?
>>31875659and a third one without the hex shape. Might move the image down a little so there is equal space between its top and bottom. too much visual tension at the horn.
>>31875412Trace is a matter of semantics really. Process by which a vectorizing program like Adobe Illustrator figures out the geometry for infinite scaling.
>>31875659This looks pretty good
>>31875659the hexes /are/ your hp. the ones crossed out are ones the player in question didn't buy for their character. the ones with a line extending through them is damage you have taken. every success that gets past your armor gets marked down as a point of damage on your track. when you have none left your character is either unconcious or dead (i haven't decided which yet. . >>31875789no, for example, if >>31873732 was attempting to investigate something, they would make a roll by addin the dots of their intelligence (3 dots) to their investigation (2 dots) giving a total roll of 5 dice (3+2=5) to roll on the test. the difficulty of the test is given by the GM (let's say it's a medium difficulty of 5) and the player rolls the the d10s for the test. each of the dice the player rolls that has a result equal to or over 5, grants a success. if the player gets enough successes, they pass the test. if they don't get the number the GM decides they need, they fail the test. modifiers such as spending willpower points to get an extra die added to the roll for every willpower point spent, or narrative bonuses they are granted by the GM increase the chances of success by giving more dice. get it now?
>>31875912i'm going to have to learn that then. >>31875940i agree, >>31875659 looks best both stylistically and within the narrative.
>>31876013Okay that system makes sense but still how do I know Intelligence is what I need to add to Investigation and not Wit? Or do I add all my mental attributes to the skill test? Willpower is neat too. Definitely gets into the giant robot feel of powering through tough situation. Again sorry if I'm obtuse. Its been a long day.
>>31876294you'll add whatever the gm tells you to add. that was simply an example. there's a huge number of Attribute+skill combinations you can have, even with the restriction of only being able to roll like skills and attributes.
currently making prices on weapons and descriptors. finally was able to decide on a system of pricing things: the price of weapons is based on the size of the character or bot you are using. buying a sword for a human and buying a sword for a huge robot won't obviously be the same price. instead, baseline prices are done for bots at size 5, and for every size down your character or bot is, subtract 1 requisition point from the price. on the flipside, for every size up your bot/character/kaiju is from 5, add 1 Requisition point to the price. now here's how i'm calculating prices themselves: for each +1 damage or accuracy bonus the weapon/descriptor/equipment gives you, add 1 to the Requisition cost. For each advantage the gives you, add 1 requisition to the price. if the piece has an exceptional success effect, add 1 requisition to the price. for each disadvantage the piece gives, subtract 1 requisition from the price. with that simple system you can make a ton of balanced weapons and pieces of equipment.
>>31876294To give you some info on why the attributes and skills are the way they are, I'll tell you how it works in the system we cribbed them from, World of Darkness. The attributes can be devided into the obvious three columns of Physical, Mental, and Social, but they can also be divided into rows. The top row (Strength, Intellegiance, and Presence) are your brute force style stats. The second row (Dexterity, Wits, and Manipulation) are your subtler and less direct stats. The third row (Stamina, Resolve, and Composure) are your defensive stats. The skills, while technically divided again into Physical, Mental, and Social can be paired with any of the attributes that your GM ask for or, occasionally, any one that the player can justify. In our case, Piloting a giant robot, we'll use an Eva for this example, would require several possible rolls. If you're trying to keep from losing a connection after taking massive damage, you might be asked to make a Pilot+Composure roll to ensure the Eva doesn't take over. Or, if the Eva is already out of control, but you're still conscious, you might try to force yourself back into command with a Pilot+Presence roll as you assert yourself as dominant over the beast. It can be a little confusing, which is why WoD provides a list of the most common Skill+Attribute combinations for players and GMs. Might be something we need to add once the rest of the basics are in place.
>>31877661Okay Now I get it. This definitely I can dig now that I get how it works. Maybe I can whip up a couple symbols for the Offensive Subtle and Defensive nature of each of those stats to go along the rows on the left most column perhaps? The Offensive Subtlety and Defensive thing seems pretty simple and flexible now that i think about it. No need to label them as such. But yeah this definitely helps out thanks. I finally FINALLY get it.
Ok, So maybe I missed this. But how are we going to handle Jaeger's two pilot system? Are both pilots going to be controled by one person? or are both characters going to pilot the same robot?
>>31877420in effect: human sized (size 2) shotgun: scatter (descriptor, cost 6) x cannon (weapon type, cost 9), because a human which is at size 2 is 3 sizes lower than a size 5 kaiju/bot, they subtract 3 from the cost of all weapons, descriptors, and equipment they buy.doing the math: (6-3)+(9-3)= (15-6) = 3+6=9. the human sized shotgun costs 9. alternatively, a gypsy danger sized shotgun (size 7) would add 2 requisition to the price of everything on the list, because it is 2 sizes higher than 5.so, using the same price values as before: scatter (6)+cannon (9)(6+2)+(9+2) = (15+4)= 8+11 =19 req. that's a huge difference from the human sized one. (and for those who were in the earlier threads, i'm retconning the mention that each requisition point was worth $500k. i'm going to leave it as an undetermined value .
>>31877969i'd rather have the tests outside the ones mentioned for combat freeform for GMs to decide the combination, or for players to rationalize it. >>31878077at the moment, it is possible to have an NPC as a fellow ranger or an actual player. this uses the personality rules (which are about to be upgraded a little bit)
Because I hate to leave stories unfinished, here's the thrilling conclusion to my brain fart from the last thread!--It was another six hours before two squadrons of heavily modified Super Stallions helicopters dropped close to 4,500 tons of steel, guns, and armor right in the middle of Puget Sound. Gipsy Danger plodded across the waters with an unshakable swagger, its older compatriot Coyote Tango following behind, its gait stiff and ungainly in comparison. Compared to newer Jaeger's sloped armor and humanoid silhouette, the Mark One looked robotic, almost alien. One moved and looked like a aged gunslinger; the other a war machine in the truest sense.Luisa and Rosalin moved in tandem, the neural link between the two former pilots strong as ever. Both volunteered for the Jaeger program some six years into the war; both found out about their Drift compatibility after fighitng one another to a standstill time after time after time in combat trials. Rosalin then volunteered the duo to take part in the PPDC's revitalization program regarding salvaging recovered Jaeger chassis from rusting away in Oblivion Bay, the PPDC's Jaeger graveyard. The end result came in the form of the duo piloting Stacker Pentecost's old Jaeger, newly fitted with harder-hitting mortar cannons, heavier armor, and, most importantly, radiation shielding.
>>31878174“Ladies and Gentlemen: Welcome to Seattle.” The Marshal's voice came in clearly over each of the Connn-Pod's comm systems. “Your orders are to hold the Miracle Mile and protect the city of 3.5 million people. How copy?”“Understood, Marshal.” Yancy Beckett's voice sounded off first.“Orders received and understood.” Rosalin answered. The duo moved deeper into the sound, preferring to face the monster coming towards them shallower water. “How are you holding up, Coyote?” Raleigh's voice came through over the second Jaeger's comms.“Just fine, Gipsy!” Rosalin answered.“Great to finally be getting' our feet wet.” Luisa piped up.“Yeah, well just don't get cocky,” came Yancy's reply. Stick close and ya might learn a thing or two.”Rosalin barely managed to suppress a chuckle. “We'll keep our eyes open.”“Gipsy, Coyote, heads up!” LOCCENT Officer Dalton's voice broke through the reverie. “That Category three just entered the sound. He'll be on top of your position in a few moments, get ready!”“Acknowledged, LOCCENT.” Luisa spun to her partner. “You ready for this?”Rosalin nodded. “Ready as your are.”
>>31878077We've got a couple of ideas, based on how the players and GM's want to do it.The default is each player gets one giant robot to fight with. Those who pick Rangers get to generate their partner and have minor control of them outside the robot, similar to a DnD follower. Once in the Jaeger, they assume full control, since the Rangers are practically one person at that point. If two players decide they want to be a single Ranger team, then they'll share the robot. We're considering a couple different system for this to balance the slight numerical disadvantage of having one less giant robot for every PC ranger team, along with ensuring that both players are able to enjoy the combat. One idea is having one pilot be the 'lead' for a number of rounds at a time, possibly no more than their Resolve or Stamina at a time. This player would decide the movement and strategy of the Jaeger, using their skills for actions. The pilots would need to switch off in order to prevent the 'lead' pilot from being overwhelmed by the Jaeger.
>>31878226“Coyote, check your nine-o-clock! He's coming in fast!” The older Jaeger's comms buzzed as they received Gipsy's message. Immediately, the lumbering war machine twisted left, and they saw it. It was quick—much quicker than one would expect something that big to move, churning up the water as it sped along. It breached right as it got close to the older Jaeger, its height nearly matching the Jaeger's. It was a gigantic mass of rippling muscle covered by loose, black, leathery skin. Arms ended in black talons. A short, bony frill dominated its head. Its face ended in a thick, curved down beak. The Kaiju's eyes gave off a deep purple glow as it regarded the Jaeger in front of it.And then it screamed. The shrill cry just disoriented the Jaeger's crew momentarily before it charged in, head-first. Luisa and Rosalin recovered with mere seconds to spare, slipping out of the way at the last moment. Almost immediately, training took hold. “Mortar cannons! Load HEAT!” On Luisa's command, the twin cannons on the Jaeger's back swiveled forward. A holo-targeting reticule appeared in front of each of the Rangers' left eyes.“MORTAR CANNONS ONLINE.” The onboard AI inflected.“On target!” Rosalin confirmed.“Blast him!”
>>31878272Oops, forgot my name. This is the problem with trying to contribute to this, while also trying to be an Anon in a quest.
>>31878279The twin cannons sounded, the bright flashes compensated by the Conn-Pod's visor. A thundercrack rocked across the sounded, rattling windows and causing car alarms to go off right on the coast. The Kaiju reeled at the twin blasts, blue blood pouring from the fresh holes in its back, leading straight through its gut. A pair of heavy brass casings dropped from the back of Coyote's cannons, hissing as they splashed into the water. The cannons retracted as the two pilots settled back into a fighting stance. “That looked like it hurt,” Rosalin smirked.“Fucker ain't dead yet,” Luisa growled. The Kaiju turned to face the assailant that had shot it in the back, issuing another battle cry. Luisa and Rosalin held their ground. Then the other gigantic war machine slammed into the Kaiju from its side. One hand firmly grasping the Kaiju's bony frill, Gipsy began slamming his fist into the Kajiu's face. The Kaiju shrieked in protest, arms flailing. Sharp claws failed to find a purchase on the Jaeger's armor, leaving shallow gouges in the gray armor. Gipsy's fist continued pummeling the beast's face as Coyote moved in closer to the duo, mortar cannons swiveling back out. “Keep him pinned, Gipsy!” Rosalina called out. “One good HEAT salvo to the face oughta put this guy down.”
Just a quick random something I whipped up all of a sudden.
just updated the personality rules to something that makes a bit more sense. rather than taking penalties with everyone, you get a +1 when dealing with the personalities on either side of you on the chart (optimists have passionate and apathetic people) a +2 when dealing with your own personality. when dealing with your exact opposite (as the pessimist is to the optimist) you are at a -2, and when dealing with personalities on the sides of your opposite (melancholic and furious in this case) you are at a -1. this seems much easier and more fair to the player, giving more of an incentive to team up with those they understand, while making it less detrimental to team up with someone they don't get. think that works better now?
>>31878376“Getting a little hard to keep hold of this asshole, Coyote!” Raleigh shouted back. “Whatever you're doing, do it fast!”“A few more seconds—that's all we're asking,” Luisa coolly said, holo-targeting slowly lining up a clean shot. The reticules steadily aligned with the Kaiju's face, glow switching from green to red.Rosalina licked her lips as the solid tone came through. “Locked on!”“Fir—”The beast broke free from Gipsy's grip, a piece of its frill left in the Jaeger's hand. Angry, cornered, and partially blinded, the Kaiju leapt forward at the Jaeger planning to blast its face to high heaven. It duck low, the heavy cannon rounds disintegrating whatever was left of the beast's frill and rupturing its eardrums. Deafened and blinded, it screamed. Gipsy's Rangers recoiled from the sound overload, as Coyote's Rangers braced for the charge.
>>31878471Hmm, yeah having an actual bonus thanks to being similar in personality is nice.
>>31878272Alright, that makes sense. So what about personalities and the like? I saw the 6 types on the wheel, and it said that they'll have penalties to interaction based on where they sit in relation to one another. But will people of different personalities still be able to mind link? And will the personality system apply to Evas as well? What about when an Eva goes berserk?
>>31878479It came out from the smoke cloud in an instant, glowing blue streaks dribbling down its face. Luisa and Rosalin drew up their right arm in defense, and the beast gladly latched on. Combined with the beast's running start, it nearly toppled the older Jaeger before its feet caught on the bottom of Puget Sound. The Kaiju's hardened beak clamped down on the Jaeger's forearm, punching through armor and bending muscle. The beast's claw cut deep into Coyote Tango's angular hull, sparks flying as armor was ripped through. .Luisa shrieked. Rosalin let out a “Puta madre—!”, gritting her teeth. The beast clamped its beak around the arm and began to wrench its head back and forth, intent on ripping the limb out entirely. The girls were running out of options. Using the cannons at this distance would destroy the two of them outright. “We gotta get this fucker to let go!” Luisa shouted.“Hit 'em with the plasmacaster!” Rosalin barked out, the duo's left arms locking back with a loud “CLUNK”.“Shoot him!” Luisa barked back.“It's charging, it's charging!”“Rosalin, por Dios—!”The plasmacaster roared twice, ripping into the Kaiju's gut. The superheated blasts gave just the Kaiju the motivation needed to release its bite. It attempted to scream again, but was cut short by a fist to its face. Then another. Coyote Tango punched the beast into the bottom of the sound. “KAIJU! FUCKING! SHITS!” Rosalin accented each of the words with her fists.
>>31878589Basically yes, no matter your core personality, for game reasons you're able to sync with you're drift partner. Now, if some in-game trauma were to happen to one of you it'd be feasible that you were no longer compatible, but that should purely be in the realm of GM plot, not something to build into the mechanics. The Eva's work under the same system, possibly with how the Eva behaves in combat based on its personality.
>>31878507thats what i was going for initially, but i was being a dumbass just trying to get everything down the last few days. and since it was my first idea for the system it was an unpolished turd. though it's very simple, i think it works for now.>the viallater oh capcha, you just named my jaeger.
>haphazardly throwing in Evangelion into Pacific Rim just because of its name valueThis can go one of three ways: the source materials remain disconnected as fuck and it turns into a pointless crossover; you only take the most superficial aspects of Evangelion, making the use of Eva all but pointless; or you take things a whole different way with Pacific Rim to make it fit with Eva, at which point it stops being an enjoyable game because it brings in a depression mechanic and suicide counter.
>>31878605The beating only stopped after the Kaiju's face resembled nothing more than a beak sitting atop black ground beef. The Jaeger straightened itself, standing tall over its defeated opponent, glowing blue rivulets trickling inbetween its fingers. Luisa and Rosalin panted, sweat beginning to fog up the faceplates of their drive suits. “You think...you think he's dead now?” Rosalin gasped. Luisa only let out a breathless laugh in reply.“Coyote, you there?” Yancy's voice buzzed over the comms.“We're here, Gipsy.” Luisa answered. “Kaiju's down. His face don't look too good right now.”“Copy that, Coyote. Congrats on the first kill.” Raleigh said. “We'll relay to LOCCENT for pickup and cleanup.”“Thanks for the assist, Gipsy. Coyote Tango out.” Rosalin let out a deep breath as she let go of the comms button, looking toward her partner. She was smiling right back at her. “Fish dream, huh?”Luisa laughed. “Yeah. Fucking fish dream.”--And finished! Don't know if I'll do more--maybe once classes slow down or I find a free moment.
>>31878589>>31878688actually, i just upgraded these rules so that like personalities have fitting bonuses, and opposite personalities are the only things with penalties.see the post here >>31878471 and the wiki for details
>>31878471Cutesy Icon version of the personality wheel Might tweak it later
>>31878835Pretty good, but you get minus points for mentioning the fucking helicopters
>>31878770Alternately One could use the Eva's and keep the overarching plotline of secretive organizations trying to take over the world using alien biology, though this time probably by adapting the Kaiju hivemind so that they can control the minds of the general populous rather than turning everyone into tang. But then take on Pacific Rims much more hopeful tone in that The good guys can win without throwing away everything they believe in, and that not everyone in a position of power is a complete bastard. That And Evas are probably clones of Kaijus mixed with human DNA rather than angels or the like probably drops the whole "Actually alternately evolved humans" angle. Though that'd be for the GM to decide.
>>31879097hell yes. this looks so much better. >splendid rtedpiacapcha agrees
now, i've just made an alternative page for -just the rules- . nobody freak out when they dissappear from the now-fluff page. new link for rules is here: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/JAEVA:_Giant_Robot_RPG_system
>>31879118And then you've essentially removed the Eva "license", as it were, and could've just done that by playing around with Pacific Rim or creating your own original setting. Which renders the use of Evangelion pointless once again, nevermind that just as I said it's only taking the surface elements of it all, because the original Evangelion wasn't about monsters and secret organizations.
>>31879118Well, you've pretty much summed up all the lore we've written for this world.Congratulations! /clap
>>31879118I think SEELE's plot and objectives should be decided with several rolls. Also, certain player actions would unknowingly help SEELE, which let's them do things like build more MP Evas or infiltrate NERV with Kaworu. There should be "just as planned" elements that make players question if the most obvious correct choice isn't one that is a bad choice in the long term.I've also thought about players having secret objectives of their own (not all being SEELE agents, of course), but I never got to post when the character crunch was being made.
>>31866918>30 feet tall but the average person can literally buy one over the internet)muh sides
>>31879162I'm tempted to fiddle with the mouth widths on the Optimistic Passionate Furious and Pessimistic perhaps. But yeah I was aiming for a "This is how Nerv or PPDC might pacify/trivialize their personality analysis system to people who might take offense or get confused otherwise. Cutesy symbols to get the point accross with little links to what the faces mean.
>>31879230This pretty much. A way to really involve the Evangelion side of the cross over is to really make humanity as much of an enemy as the Kaiju. Be it through exclusively through the machinations of Seele and those they manipulate or the balancing the needs of the populace who may grow to hate or love you.
>>31879285That isn't a joke. You can do that now.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29MD29ekoKIhttp://suidobashijuko.jp/http://kuratasrobot.com/Of course it is from Japan. Did you expect it to be from anywhere else?
>>31879214Yeah, I get that it was supposed to be about dealing with depression and psychological issues and stuff, but that's more based on how the GM wants to run it. It's entirely possible to flip it, with the Story focusing on the Rangers and how they deal with the inevitable PTSD that comes from fighting Cthulhu (and possibly teenagers) on a week to week basis and just generally running a more character focused game, but the crunch is still going to be about robots punching things. It's all dependent on how the GM frames the story, the settings just a place to set that frame.
>>31879230Would the Kaiju worshiping cultists from the movie have an effect on the world? Like maybe they try to sabotage equipment or kill the pilots or something. Maybe they could turn out to be the unwitting pawns of SEELE
>>31879390Then there's no real reason to bring in the actual Evangelion license beyond wanking to its name, because you can accomplish all of that and the other potential ways of mixing Eva in that are being discussed by just tweaking the Pacific Rim setting around, creating a potential sequel world set after the movie that'd be much, much easier to keep internally consistent compared to throwing in Eva's stuff for no good reason then struggling to find a way to get the two to meld.
>>31879097And here is a strokeless version/alternate arrangement.
>>31879488The cultists could probably be utilized as SEELE pawns. You could have out-of-mech events like the cultists trying to assassinate a specific pilot pr support staff member that doesn't fit into SEELE's plans.
ATTENTION: RULES WILL NOW BE ON THEIR OWN PAGE SEPARATE FROM THE FLUFF:http://1d4chan.org/wiki/JAEVA:_Giant_Robot_RPG_system
>>31879517I just enjoy mixing the two together and seeing what works. I've always been someone who enjoys the lore of a work almost as much as, if not more so, the actual story being told. In Eva's case, I like the worldbuilding and possibilities had the series covered a longer period of time, more than the kinda angsty psychological stuff. That's just my opinion though.
>>31879517If you don't think it melds well, couldn't you just say "no evas" or vice versa and then not bother with the insanity mechanic? It seems l;ike it would be fairly easy to tweak. You don't have to use he base setting if it's that big of a problem
>>31879661sanity was clearly still a thing thanks to the RABITs that rangers encountered while drifting, but still, it's possible to play without it.
>>31879579>>31879651>>31879661There's ways to have more internally consistent base settings to go along with a game's mechanics, and everything done thus far could be easily done as a Pacific Rim sequel setting with inspiration taken from Evangelion's superficial parts, reducing or outright eliminating much of the hassle of trying to mash two completely unrelated works against eachother in a functional way.As it stands now the Evangelion part is only thrown in because of name value, because even from a crossover perspective there's so many works that would better meld with Pacific Rim.
>>31879824Actually, for me at least, Eva is one of the few crossovers with PR I could contribute to. The only other ones I know well enough either really don't fit thematically (Gundam Wing) or simply wouldn't work together well (Big O).And no, I wasn't one the the guys pushing for this crossover, I only joined halfway through the third thread.
>>31879651See same here. Fucking angels were the best thing out of evangelion in my opinion, so alien and bizzare, to the point that I may have a near fetishistic fixation on masks skulls big ass teeth . Plus thanks to catholic school in my early life I enjoy a sensible chuckle at all the Judeo Cristian Mumbo Jumbo. It was more of an aesthetic experience for me, and there isn't much to it for me to enjoy, beyond the most angsty character in the angstiest story ever, the two most generic waifus in existence... The dad guy was cool though, in that amazingly awful dick kind of way. Add sunglasses fetish to the list. Man we need to do more stuff with Gendo. Up his game from just "being emotionally distant to Shinji" and make him more a big political player. A guy that arranges Jaeger malfunctions and stunts to make Eva's look better. A man who is keenly aware of SEELE and as such tries to plan around their plans. Make him and Pentecost butt heads.
>>31879966He's probably not mentioned in the fluff in order to have the position as head of the Eva project depend on the GM
>>31879966>GendoThus far people have had an understandable preference to push forward their own OCs and neglect PR and NGE's established characters. In my opinion, we should at least stat the pre-existing characters and mechs just to serve as a baseline. And I'm sure someone will want to use them as NPCs.Also, do we have a support staff character sheet?
>>31880044Heh, honestly I think its part being torn on including canon characters into the setting and part no one writing much NERV fluff.
>>31880080Currently, we only have the sheet for MCs. I believe crunchfag's priority is the giant robot sheets. Then we can work out the NPC and Kaiju ones.
>>31880085Okay one of these threads we have to devote to Nerv then. Maybe see about browsing around an AdEva thread or the AdEva rule book for inspiration for EVA fluff. Hell Maybe in the JaEVA Thread NERV Edition could also focus on the Robot character sheet.
>>31880161Fine. I think someone should stat Shinji, Asuka, Rei, Raleigh, and Mako just as a test of the character sheet. They're each good archetypes (the reluctant, the prodigy, the hybrid, the washed up vet, and the rookie). They should be used as examples in character creation.
>>31880246I might just do that than, starting with the Children at level 1 as they enter the series.Crunchfag called for people to try to break the system, but honestly I'm not a good powergamer so this might be my only way to really contribute to the crunch half. Also, wonderful picture.
>>31880341Feel free to make up RABITS and attributes to fit the characters. Remember, they're archetypes. Players may enter the game with the expectation to be able to play a character like Shinji or Asuka or Mako; and other players will enter the game with no knowledge of either series. So be descriptive and creative. These characters will introduce the character creation system to people. That's what makes them more useful than an OC, which most players probably won't be using because it is not their OC.
>>31880341What skills would shinji have, cause he seems to be the type to be bad at everything maybe good at Piloting but that seems a given? I'd figure he'd have good Composure and Stamina, he keeps all his emotional Bullshit Bottled up and tends to take a lot of abuse. As for RABITs he'd have>Dead Loved One (Mother)>Abandonment Issues and maybe >Negative Relationship (Father)These kind of things might work as Triggers for bad Eva Behavior. Personality type... Melancholic perhaps? Assuming I understand what Melancholy means.
>>31880590I think Shinji is melancholicRei is Apathetic, obviouslyAsuka is either Furious or passionateand Raleigh and Mako are both Optimistic, I guess.
>>31880712I dunno raleigh seemed kinda pessimistic after his Bro died actually... then his personality shifted after being given a second chance. Mako has a bit of passion actually I'd say. Her choice to be in the Jaeger program is due to her Sorta-Dad Pentecost and a revenge wish for her family.
>>31880752Maybe they'd both fall under passionate then? They're both after revenge after all. Also, Co-pilots ave to have the same personality type right?
>>31880752Mako has quite a bit of complexity. In the beginning, she was very formal and reserved; and eventually she stood up to Pentecost. There was some character development for her throughout the movie. So for Mako, I'd put down "trained but unproven" and "being held back" as attributes, along with "reluctant to defy father figure."And defying him will necessitate a stress roll, with the worst possible outcome being that she backpedals and another bad outcome is that during the drift she focuses in on the embarrassment of the situation. And of course Mako has other RABITs, but she also has the potential for more since she's unproven and is restrained by social formalities.
>>31880892No, the personality types aren''t restricted in anyway. It's why we want to keep the bonus/penalty from the chart low, so that it doesn't become a mechanical necessity to play.
>>31880892I think the way it was termed was... Complimentary. IE Mako was a little fastidious and precise, especially when she was basically calling out Raleigh's flaws during the compatibility tests against others. Raleigh is a wild card that has gotten burned by is own impulsive nature. Plus there is the fact Raleigh has sort of "Coped" with his Brother Dying, and Mako hasn't gotten over her families death. Mako's precision and safe nature might be what makes the whole "Double Tap" thing happen to leatherback, "just to make sure". Again its implied the drift can fix one of the pilots issues through a complimentory personality trait or memory, or spread the problem to both. Raleigh's memory of his brother dying is what ultimately triggers Mako into reliving the Onibaba attack in the film. >>31880946Also dat pic is cute.
>>31880892>Also, Co-pilots ave to have the same personality type right?nope, they can be different. there are variables of bonuses and penalties depending on how different they are. check the wiki. >>31880161my priority is indeed the other sheets, but for tonight i am satisfied with having fixed everything on my list. personality is acceptable, scaled ranges are simplified and better explained. all seems right with the world at this moment.premade characters for NPCs and such are a great idea. stat anyone you want to using the rules on the wiki.now, lets get some weapon descriptors, equipment ideas, and other ideas down so i can finish this shit tomorrow and start the alphas by next week. happy free comic book day tomorrow as well.
Just to make it official, oxygen destroyer replaces N2 mines, right?
>>31881122Yeah I'll try and head out early since I got work tonight and tomorrow for Free Comic Book day. I'm normally a /co/mrade, and /co/ used to be all over pacific rim. I wonder...
>>31881195Nah, right now we need crunch and details that contribute to crunch. We don't need any more ideaguys.
>>31881195Montyfag here, and we could use some fluff around the Atlantic, like Europe. and the possible rivalry between a NERV Controlled Germany and a PPDC Controlled France and Britian. Or possible fighting in Germany cause they make Jaeger Parts AND Make EVA's. Just some thoughts.I'll get back to writing stuff for Detroit. Just need food.
>>31881222Very True. So what are some geneneral Stats that we can work with on Jaegers/Evas/Giant Robots In general? The Physical Stats are mostly okay (Stamina is weird), Mental and Social Could use rejiggering to be more Robot focused. Maybe becoming more Sensory and Interaction maybe? Actually tempted to split things up kinda like how Engine Heart does. Inteligence (maybe rename it Sensory) Chassis and Crux (read as what powers it and its limits). Would robots have skills?
>>31881494I believe the plan is that the robots only have physical stats. Although, the evas might have the social ones...I think they use the pilot's skills, but, again, the eva's might need some for beserking.
>>31881494Here is an Engine Heart character sheet for reference. Maybe Evas and Jaevas are less Skill based and more feature or weapon based? And said features and weapons could have a tie to player skills.
>>31881551I dunno I have an idea of making Giant Robot physical stats have a longer Hex Bar, as well as maybe start with an extra point? And then instead of mental And social we sort of fluff it as Interface(The capacity for the Pilot to interact with it... The Social Stats for Robots) and Sensory (The Mental Stat equivalents, pertaining to understanding or calculating outside vectors, seeing Kaiju, Heat signatures, Etc.)
>>31881569Maybe you'd have pilot skills? That'd create interesting scenarios where a former Eva pilot would bring an Eva's combat style (I'm not talking about AT fields) to a Jaeger.
>>31881814Christ, jaeger's jumping in the air, tackling kaiju to the ground and savagely tearing kaiju heads off... I can only imagine the damage that'd do to the Jaeger's kneecaps and ankles. they always moved like Boxers, keeping two feet planted on the ground working with fists and whatever they can swing in their arms.
>>31879517You're wrong, adding EVA does serve a point, mostly the biggest plot hole in Pacific Rim being that the logistics of the movie are skewed beyond all logical comprehension. Eureka Striker only cost the Australian government 100 billion dollars, and it was the most effective jaeger to date, achieving a 11 to 1 kill ratio. Plainly put, Pacific Rim only works with suspension of disbelief and a whole lot of generally unexplained governmental incompetence. Building a fucking big wall is supposed to stop a horde of 300 foot monsters? As much as I like the movie, it flounders like a fish out of water when you try to engineer a realistic backdrop.EVA adds budgetary competition between legitimate alternatives engineered by people ruthlessly jockeying for power and influence in rebuilding the world after the great political upheavals that events like Pacific Rim would cause. Gendo's scheming and manipulative ways would fit right at home in that kind of environment, and NERVE gives the Jaegers a nice antagonistic rival agency that has different guiding philosophies for reaching the same goals. In my opinion, they complement each other quite well.
>>31881869Not to mention, an Eva pilot's tendency to go for a gun, or a knife, or something. Most Jaegers don't carry around other weapons after all.
>>31881950 >W-w-we're Gonna die!>Calm down shinji,>Oh GOD where's the gun! a Knife anything.>The knives are on Our Wrists... And the gun?Missile Volley starts opening up.>IN OUR CHEST!
>>31879285In AC2 there was once pilot who became a Raven to pay off gambling debts and another who did it because he got bored of working in an office. There might be barriers to becoming a Raven but price was definitely not one of them.
>Radiant Dragon is a Chinese WaffenJaeger, consisting of hundreds of solid-state laser turrets attached via retractable 'wings' to a refurbished mk2 Jaeger. The design is a maintenance nightmare, but can disable a kaiju when it works.
Since the timeline has been altered, I take it the events of NGE haven't happened yet?Does that change the age of the Eva pilots or are they supposed to be older background characters?
>>31883570Eva Pilots are still generally young Early to Late Teens, and its based around exposure to Kaiju blue in some way. The younger you are when the Breach Opened the better candidate for being a pilot you'd be. Perhaps
>>31883570>>31883703The pilot codenamed "Old King" is the oldest known Eva pilot, believed to be in his mid 30s. Some may ask how his mind has survived the process, and the short answer is that it hasn't. Old King is an ongoing psychological experiment, described by NERV psychologists as "utterly insane" and "a danger to humanity".
Alright just gonna post a little side thing before I go to bed. Just some NERV and PPDC logos. Simplified and Vectorized for scaleability . Maybe when the next thread pops up we try and make it either about YET more Crunch, or some Eva/Nerv Fluff.>JaEVA Thread: NERV Edition
>>31883703I think we decided to go with you have to make the first connection with an EVA while still in puberty, otherwise you can keep piloting indefinitely. Of course the pilots will burn out within one or two years of active deployment
>>31883881Mmm... Probably should've found a higher res PPDC Logo, the Trace didn't come out right.Otherwise how do you guys feel about the next thread being about NERV fluff and Giant Robot Crunch? Also any word from the Anon(s?) working on the premade character sheets based on Shinji and stuff?
>>31883988Also should we fire up some kind of Drop box for this visual stuff or no?
>>31883875Fuck yeah AC:FA
>>31883988With everything so far leaning so heavily towards the Jagers, we kind of need a full on NERV thread to balance it out a bit.
I honestly think the Evas need more love, dont get me wrong, I love the big metal war machines punching the shit out of kaiju but I feel we lack some brutal, bloody monster on monster action in the form of evas. if this is still going on after my exams I will try to contribute but Im currently to busy to do anything other than lurk.
>>31881195let's keep it local to /tg/. /co/ is known for >>31881494giant robots in general. the only attributes they have are physical ones, with a 10 dot cap rather than a 5 dot one. they use pilot's skills added to their attributes to make rolls. it represents how the pilot is using it as a tool. actual AI controlled bots could be an expansion later on, or you could just make an NPC with no physical attributes and only intelligence and social ones, along with skills. obviously it couldn't function outside of it's shell, but that /is/ a possibility. after all, we have a system that's being fully established at the moment, with nearly 15 pages of crunch if printed out. lets work with what we've got and get to the alpha and beta testing before releasing a finalized version. >>31883988not sure how well shinji would do as a character. he sucks at everything but piloting... and even that's iffy at times. simon from TTGL at least had an internal drive that allowed him to get over his lack of confidence. shinji just freaked out all the time and turned to Tang, with his friends approval
>>31885347>With everything so far leaning so heavily towards the Jagers, we kind of need a full on NERV thread to balance it out a bit.>>31885357>I honestly think the Evas need more love, dont get me wrong, I love the big metal war machines punching the shit out of kaiju but I feel we lack some brutal, bloody monster on monster action in the form of evas.once again, i can agree, but at the moment let's just get to the alpha before changing anything but details to make it playable. it is a generic giant robot game after all. if you want full eva, play adeptus evangelion. >>31885392>/co/ is known for getting pissy about the details and jumping in most of the way through, wanting to change everything established to fit their goals. fucking didn't finish that line. and that's my personal experience. which is why i stay on /tg/. it's the best board.
>>31885438in addition to this, there's nothing stopping a GM from pitting bots against bots by making an NPC to control an eva, or describing some bloody act in combat. that's my consensus on narrative stuff.
>>31885357>>31885438Honestly I feel Eva should be Fluffed as the Jagers potential replacement instead of just it's rival from the get go, though the Eva's are dangerous and horrifying to those who know the truth about them as the Kaiju get tougher and more angellike, a war machine much more versatile & flexible is needed to fight them & they have both a better survival rate compared to the Jager and are much more in line with the Wall project.
>>31885552yeah, that's a thought i had as well, i am but a simple crunchfag in this thread.also an update, i linked us in the AdEva page at the end of the internal wiki links. i figure that's fair because i linked them on both the fluff and crunch pages as an alternative if players want -just- Eva
>After watching his son feeding a tree into a woodchipper, Dr. Ivan Gurevich developed the concept that would become the Grinder.>It is armed with a massive set of rotating steel drums designed to pull the Kaiju into the machine while progressively destroying its body, similar in many ways to an oversized paper shredder.>The remains are stored in a sealed tank inside the machine until they can be removed for safe disposal. A system of vacuum pumps and high pressure steam jets is used to create powerful air currents at the mouth of the machine, in order to draw in any gases or droplets that are produced.>Unfortunately while the machine has a high top speed it also has a wide turning circle, which limits its use in street fighting.
>>31882850AC's are probably handed out to anyone willing to be a walking billboard for an arms company
>>31883570The actual events of NGE have been molded into the timeline. Kaiju and the Precursors have taken the place of the Angels in the universe. With SEELE being the reason K-Day and the entire Kaiju war happens.Thinking about it, I'm not entirely sure why it's taken them decades to put their new Instrumentality plan into action, other than its simply more complicated to set up. Or they want to wait till the Kaiju aren't pounding at the door.
>>31885552While it is an idea, remember that as it stands, Eva still need power cords to operate for more than a few minutes. This also means that they can't deploy that far from the coast, even with mobile power stations. Eva's also have a tendency for more collateral damage, since they usually can't go toe-to-toe with the Kaiju like the Jaegers can. Not to mention what happens if they go berserk.>>31883988I'm about to get started on the character sheets, I was distracted by a quest at the time, and it was 3:30 EST before it finished.
>>31881869Except for Crimson Typhoon. It jumped right the fuck over a Kaiju. And Striker Eureka's more advanced than it. Whether it can do the same or not is arguable since it might not have been designed with that level of agility in mind, but other Mark Vs could continue down that line no problem.
>>31881945Congratulations on only taking the surface elements of Eva, something that could've been accomplished by just modifying and developing the Pacific Rim world or creating something entirely original, once again proving that Evangelion is in only for name value and nothing else.
>>31887911Again, Evangelion also adds more than just name value. It adds human antagonists in the form of SEELE, it adds a sense of competition that would only really be matched by bringing in some other giant robot franchise, and it adds the wonderful implications of a world desperate enough to allow child soldiers that almost always end up dead, crazy, or catatonic.Could this have been done without using NGE? Yes, but it's interesting adapting two established franchises together, and it allows several views on how they mesh, while still progressing in coming up with fluff. If we tried to write up all this from a purely original standpoint, we likely wouldn't be on the same page with all the different anons who contributed.
>>31888060>Yes, but it's interesting adapting two established franchises together, and it allows several views on how they mesh, while still progressing in coming up with fluff. Its fun playing Frankenstein basically.
>>31887402>Eva still need power cords to operate for more than a few minutes. This also means that they can't deploy that far from the coast, even with mobile power stations. Eva's also have a tendency for more collateral damage, since they usually can't go toe-to-toe with the Kaiju like the Jaegers can. Not to mention what happens if they go berserk. When you put it all this way, why even bother in the first place? Like >>31887911 notes, the EVA elements feel put in more to provide a secondary antagonist. Kaiju-centric conspiracy can easily be written into a standard Pacific Rim setting.
>>31888060>human antagonists"The PPDC and the Brotherhood view the benefits... and threats of Kaiju, differently. They see a scientific anomaly, a curiousity. I see the future."
>>31887911But anon, Eva is nothing but surface elements. Despite the common joke, Eva isn't exactly deep, it's just weird.
How are people Still bitching about combining Eva and PR? It's a fun crossover, Why is it this big of a problem?>>31888747>Kane is the head of Seele and directly responsible for the growth of the Kaiju cults worldwide.
>>31888721I see the Evas bombarding Kaiju with ranged weaponry (which Jaegers typically don't have), then finishing them off with prog knives when they get in close.
>>31888873Still a better director than Gendo.http://youtu.be/t7kTaO1czuk?t=8m35s
>>31888853I'm not one of those EVA IS DEEP fags, but the things that are being used from it here, the robots and the wierd aliens and the shadowy organizations, those are seriously the shallower elements of it all, all of it stuff that could've been done by just adjusting the Pacific Rim setting after Ralleigh and Mako seal the original Breach. I'm not calling it deep, but Evangelion is about a lot of things that aren't the robots and Nerv, and I'm annoyed that this is a crossover project for no good reason when just working with the Pacific Rim setting and taking inspiration from Evangelion and other shows would've been far better. As it is now Eva is seriously just in because of Evangelion fanwank.
>>31889155one million times this
>>31889155Well it seems like most people either like or just don't mind the fanwank. So it doesn't seem to be much of a problem.
>>31889155People want EVAs to fight Jaegers. it's an imaginary toybox for neckbeards like myself to play in with some semblance of plot and reasoning as to why the universes are together. some people like that, and i like it because it gave me a reason to write these rules and an audience to help make them. the only reasons i need to do something is pic related. nobody has to run the fluff the same way, just run it however you like.
Kind of wondering if Omega Boost would work as a Jaeger now:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kkwuw26ESn4
>>31889155Yeah, it also has Seele (which is in this), mentally unstable teenagers (which is in this) and... honestly that's about it. And this project started because someone wanted a Pacrim/Eva crossover because it's a fun idea, if you can't handle that then why the fuck are you here?
>>31889802>SeeleOh yes, a shadowy organization with a dark ulterior motive. Clearly this could only come about from adding Evangelion.>mentally unstable teenagersEvangelion invented mental sickness, heard it here first folks. It's not like Pacific Rim had details into how being a Ranger could fuck with people or that Raleigh chose to dissapear because he couldn't handle experiencing his brother getting killed by a giant monster either.A Pacrim/Eva crossover is a shitty idea, and I'm here because while I support more mecha gaming systems, throwing in Evangelion just because MUH EVAS is retarded, it brings nothing to the table that can't be better integrated into the game's setting by using just Pacific Rim and developing that.
>>31889951And as we've all said several times, if you want that setting feel free to write it up. The current consensus is a crossover, so that's what we're writing the base as. Nothing we've got written up so far prevents you from creating a purely PR setting for the system.
>>31889951Then stop whining here and start your own project
>>31890029>>31890030but someone's wrong on the internet, gotta correct them
>>31890087Quit bitching about people liking something you don't. It's not going to change anything and your just wasting everyone's time, including your own.
>>31854928>A project by /tg/ to make a system that combines two of the best giant robot universes into one RPG.>Eva>best giant robot universePick one, retards.
>>31887072Now there's a thought>international corporations sponsor their own Jaegers>Knifehead vs. Coca Killa
>>31890029>The current consensus is a crossover>consensusMaybe in your own little world.
>>31890299I think that's probably an idea for silly advertisements that might pop up in the middle of the war. You know, when humanity stopped taking kaiju seriously. Those sorts of things might still be around in the late war, but they're probably seen as slightly disrespectful.
How about we throw in Mazinger in instead of Eva?
>>31890299>BP sponsors an oil powered MK.1 Jaeger. cracks a leak in a fight and ends up causing more damage to the surrounding environment than Kaiju blue.
>>31890357Maybe as an alternate setting I'd play the fuck out of it
Space Runaway Ideon > Evangelion
>>31890357>>31890313>>31890477You're about five threads late.
>>31890540>posts Rebuild EvaWell, that explains that. It's basically Evangelion without everything that made it Evangelion in the first place, to the point where I have to wonder if it isn't just a different thing recycled into Eva because it'd sell better that way.
>>31868161holy shit that's all done. now, all we need are bot/kaiju sheets (hopefully done tonight and tomorrow by me as concept designs). additions to the damage tracks, 1 extra hex on each line and a total of six lines, and 30 maximum points to the track. we still need a bigger list of weapon descriptors and equipment ideas in a complete list and we will be ready to begin.
>>31890580Would you prefer if we added a FAR turtle?
>>31890540this guy's right. everyone causing arguments, shut the fuck up and quit disrupting the thread. we're here to make crunch and fluff. that's it. go argue on a quest thread or something instead.
>>31890648I'd prefer it if people stopped trying to cram Evangelion and/or TTGL into everything mecha, really
>>31890596You do God's work, crunchfag.
>>31890346I think most people would see kaiju pinup girls as a step too far even then.

>>31890803>>31890803>Blueish for Robot >Greenish for Kaiju?>Perhaps?you know i was thinking of that, but i have to design the other sheets in a different manner to account for the necessary space required for all the damage boxes and such, but once i have the basic sheet ready i'd like to see what we can do about a background got them. they'll most likely be a sideways 8.5x11">>31891235buying an extra dot grants you an extra die for tests that use that skill or attribute. thus far i don't have any plans to do the WoD thing where you buy merits that require a certain number of dots in a certain attribute or skill. i believe the rules to be complex enough as they are at 15 pages with no fluff. once we get some decent lists we can begin testing. >>31890855haven't even started it, just had to get the info down on the wiki before even starting it.

>>31891435i'd like to keep it to the hexagonal design, same hexagonal/agencyFB stuff we had on the main sheet, but if you have some ideas i wouldn't mind hearing them. as for the symbol, not a bad choice, another option would be the kaiju symbol that hannibal chau had to mark his shop.
Its 4am, don't feel like sleeping, and I am bored. Stumble across JAEVA, so figured might as well do something productive for a change. Its a practice piece, but I think it turned out pretty well.Tell me what you guys think, and see if there is any changes you guys wanna make. Will uploud vectors once I got the final design.
>>31890855>probably ways to just jury rig itI figure if there are bidirectional brain interfaces there are probably total immersion videogames. All it takes is a few lab techs getting drunk and deciding it would be a laugh to hook that kaiju brain over there into some of them. The hivemind held up as well as it could, but it was basically fighting the entire porn industry.
>>31891554Oh I like that one more. Way more detailed and primal actually. Kinda fits in in a third space between PPDC's Militarized Design, and NERV's Sort of Classical Look with the Serif type and fig leaf.
>>31891554or if you were speaking about the background and i'm just being a fucking idiot, same look as the character sheet, just turned landscape for bots, possibly with this symbol >>31875659 and for the kaiju background should keep the angles of the hexagons, but maybe put them into a pattern that looks like veins.
>>31891573fucking digging this on the first and third. wanted to let you know.
>>31891663I saw some one mentioned that hexagonal motive is like an important design theme, should I take that into consideration? Also, hi to fellow graphicfag.Damn, I forgot some panel lines for the EVA, on the horn.
>>31891573Way to blow me out of the water. DAMN son that looks fucking awesome. I like the first one but that might be my personal bias toward the Rebuild movie Typography. Also good to see there is another Graphicfag/Artfag in the threads. Any chance we could get the sillouhetts on their own? No text? They look like good fun to fiddle with.
Bored, So I figured I'd try my hand at fleshing out one of the units listed on the Wiki>Unit 14- "One Armed wonder">The child who now pilots this Eva lost his left arm in one of the earliest Kaiju attacks.>Thankfully this loss wasn't as bad as it would have been in the past due to repurposed jaeger tech being used for advanced prosthetics and released on the consumer market.>However it did still make piloting his eva more difficult due to lacking the ability to use his arm as a focal point in the same way other pilots might.>To circumvent this issue, a request was made to have his Eva specially modified, having it's arm removed and outfitted with a special apparatus similar to the tech found in his own prosthetic arm, allowing him to lock into it and control it normally.>The mechanical arm is fitted with a powerful claw utilizing the same technology found in Prog weapons and gains extra power through a series of powerful pistons that give it extra thrusting power.
Giant robots? this is relevant to my interests
>>31891720Hello to you too. And yeah hexagontal motif is mostly present in stuff like Character sheets and maybe page numbers and stuff. Hexagons are strictly utilitarian. Maybe a way to fiddle with it, in terms of the logo is to mirror the 30 or 60 degree angles from the hexagons in that nice diagonal slice you got going on in the silhouettes.
>>31891763Ah, yes we really need to move the fluff from the archives to that page. Unit-14 actually has fluff written up in one of the previous threads. Sadly, whoever put them on the wiki page couldn't be bothered to add it.Unit-14, unofficially known as the 'Won Armed Wonder' is an Eva with an artificial arm, designed with Jaeger parts. The name is used derisively by Nerv, but slightly respectful from the PPDC who see it as that part of NERV acknowledging their superior tech.
>>31891590Not what I meant.I figure I'll just use the rules for Kaworu and apply them to a kaiju pilot.
>>31892052I prefer this fluff >>31891763 here to be honest. I think Jaeger/eva hybrids should only be used in a post breach apocalyptic future.
>>31883504Two-Timer is a Clone of the Kaiju Knifehead, created by the Chinese madman and multi-billionaire Al-Gin. Overcoming original deformity in the secondary and primary limbs (By cutting them off and in the way of the primaries replacing them) a well as deformity of the face and legs (also dealt with by amputation and reconstructive surgery/augmentation) Fortunately it doesn't stop the installation of a Entry Plug. Its Face is largely intact, though now covered in plating similar to that of its EVA Kin (And its namesake is still intact, though upgraded accordingly, and it still has teeth). Its arms, of which it only has two, have been replaced by Jaeger Substitues, leading to a clunkier look, though these limbs have built in weapon systems. Maser Arrays that operate at a close, directional 'Fry Pulse" As well as Heated Claws settle it offensive weaponry. The end result I something not truly EVA and not truly Jaeger. A combination of Cloned Flesh and Earth Technology. This was one of Al-Gin's first creations, and not among his last. This particular Hybrid was stolen by its test pilot, who later enlisted with the Last Circus PMC. There is still a sizable bounty on both the Hybrid and the Pilot, no doubt put on them by the Kaiju worshipping madman.
>>31892117I'm not trying to argue one or the other, just letting you know that someone already came up with it, and might take offense, as the internet is wont to do, if someone just changes it.
>>31892052>>31891763Yes, "Won Armed Wonder" Was a Euor/Russo/Chinese EVA (It was made by Germany, sold to the Russians who replaced it arm, and then Lend-Leased to the Chinese), its Jaeger Substitue has a built in Chain Bayonet, and its pilots typically Engage at a Range with Mag-rail Rifles, before closing the distants to finish it off.
>>31892117In this Universe Crimson Typhoon was refluffed to be a rather deformed hybrid, which would account for its triple arms and rather odd design. And we already fluffed that such hybrids do exist, though primarily by China (And by extent N.K. I think)
>>31892100No going back now, I'm afraid.
Has this thread been archived? Cause we are reaching that time agian
>>31892642Just got it archived.http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.htmlGoing to spend the next few minutes writing up an OP to save for any new threads.
>>31892753Want me to take a thread logo for when you start a new thread?
There a pdf?
>>31892840If you could give me one of your three logos for the next thread that be awesome. I like switching up the picture between threads.
>>31891573Now im no artist or anything but I think if it would be possible i would put the JA within the shadow of the Gypsy danger looking at the left and the EVA with the shadow of the 01 looking to the right matching the Hexagon... somehow
>>31892847Not currently. Personally I'd like to compile everything into one when we're done, but I don't know anything about making them.
>>31892867Hmm... I am still designing the next batch of iteration with hexagon in mind, so they're not ready yet. However, I re-purposed one of the new design into something that would serve as a OP pic.The pic is meant to be easily editable. You can just open MS Paint and write down whatever, as for the thread number, just paint it over with red and re-type/draw whatever thread number it is with white text. The white space on the bottom right you can insert whatever in it, I 'unno. Its bad design, I blame the huge ass hexagon forcing out too much extra space.
>>31893137Thanks!Also, for everyone's consideration here's what I'm probably going to us for the OP from now on:A project by /tg/ to make a system that combines two of the best giant robot universes into one RPG. Started as a quest to find the best system to play Pacific Rim in, it became a crossover between PR and Neon Genesis Evangelion. However, the rules for the system are being designed to support any kind of giant robot franchise, including just a fleshed out PR verse.Check out the 1d4chan pages here:>http://1d4chan.org/wiki/JAEVA_project>http://1d4chan.org/wiki/JAEVA:_Giant_Robot_RPG_systemCatch up with the archives here:>http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=JAEVA%20Project(Links to the first few threads are within the thread labelled #4)The thread numbers are off by 1 due to the first archived thread being a different title than the current thread.Join the IRC at:>irc.thisisnotatrueending.com>#JAEVAWe're currently in the pre-alpha stage of game development, so if you see anything that bugs you in the system or lore, feel free to bring it up and we'll discuss any possible changes.
>>31893137Actually, no, nonono. Don't use this.It looks bad in thumbnail, too small to make out anything.Know what? Just crop out each logo variant from >>31891748Should be easy to do, just open it up with MS PAINT and crop the selection.
>>31893081One of the programs I use is part of the Adobe Suite called In Design. Its somewhere between being a Word Processor and Adobe Illustrator, in that its focused on arranging and fiddling with typographic stuff. And it exports to print worthy PDFs enmesse. Microsoft Word, Illustrator and Photoshop also do PDF exporting, however InDesign is where you can do crazier shit with in theory. >>31893137Pardon my language but. HOT SHIT NIGGA! that looks great. I am truly and honestly Mind Blown. >>31893219I can see where this guy is going but seeing this Hexagon silhouette interplay really makes me wanna say This is what we use on the cover or chapter separations.
>>31893219Alright, I'll just do that for the next thread. Also, note to self, when saving images from 4chan, remember to save the full sized image, not the thumbnail. /facepalm
>>31893219I already posted the vanilla variant in thread already here >>31869023 . Shall I post all the Process images or what? Also should I start name faggin as well?
>>31893267>I can see where this guy is going but seeing this Hexagon silhouette interplay really makes me wanna say This is what we use on the cover or chapter separations.Holy shit, did you read my mind?Pic related, this is done 15 mins ago.
>>31893219Fuck, I mean crop out each logo variant from >>31891573
>>31893403What do you use for the stencil font on "Giant Robo RPG"? I've been using some freebie thing called AR DESTINE, mostly for the "cyberpunk" look and edge.
Alright, once this falls off the board I'll throw up a new one with the subtitle NERV Edition.
>>31895414Sounds like a plan holy apostle.
>>31893403i'd personally like this combined with the logo work done by the last anon's logo for a cover. as is this shit just keeps looking cooler and cooler.
