You were Flight lieutenant Julian Reber of the Royal Air Force. You joined the RAF to liberate the European continent from the BETA, aliens who threatened to wipe out humanity. You failed when your fellow humans betrayed you. Now, people call you the Master and you command the remaining assets of the CIA. Joined by others who, like you, lost everything because of America's betrayal, you fight for revenge. Right now, you're sitting across from your latest target, an American Major. Despite the bruises, cuts, burns and electrocutions, he hasn't cracked yet. That's fine. All the military documents he sees get forwarded to you eventually anyway. "Amateurs think torture is about information, Alfred, but that's not what it's about," you say. "Torture is about satisfaction. In this case, it's about my satisfaction. If you take any kind of pride in the fact that you haven't broken yet, I assure you, it's entirely irrelevant. I just want to see you suffer." He lifts his head to look at you, but there's no deviance left in his eyes, only a dazed look. It might be the electroshock treatment. "Why... why are you... doing this?""There are lots of reasons floating around here," you say. "Here's a fun fact for you: Most of my people are actually leftover CIA assets who were trained by America to worship the BETA and betray humanity. It seemed like a shame to let them go to waste, so I decided to recycle them. Everyone else just wants revenge against America for one reason or another. Personally?" You lean in to get closer to him>Explain it calmly. >FUCKING RAGE
>>31829636>>Explain it calmly.
>>31829636>FUCKING RAGEI want to see Julian when hes angry.
>>31829636>>Explain it calmly.Calmly is its own torture.
>>31829636>American Major>Alfred >we're torturing an American officer portrayed almost universally as pretty much a good, unbackstabby guyMan, you weren't kidding about Bad End Edition.>FUCKING RAGEAssuming we've been mostly clinical thusfar, the juxtaposition is probably more interesting. Also >>31829810 is a good point, seeing as we've mostly played him fairly level-headed, even during the other bad end. Kind of interested in seeing the other side of things.
>>31829636You grab the back of Alfred's head and yank it back as you lean over to tower over him."YOU KILLED MY FAMILY!" You scream in his face and tighten your grip to prevent him from looking away. "You killed my parents, my wife, my lovers, my children, my friends and my comrades! Everyone said it was just terrorists, but THEY WERE YOUR TERRORISTS! You destroyed my homeland! And for what? SO YOU COULD DESTROY THE FUCKING WORLD!" You wrap your other hand around Walken's neck and clamp down on his arteries and veins as hard as you can. "An entire generation of humans grew up knowing only war," you say. "But no matter how bad things were, we still had hope. We sill had a future. America took that away from us, so now, I will take away what little future you have left." You relax your hand one second before the Major passes out from the blood choke and step back. You hear someone knock on the doorframe and turn to see Jean, your contact from the French military."You look busy," he says in French. "No, I'm just finished," you say. "What do you need?""Not here." Jean nods at Walken. "I trust your security, but I'm not taking any chances.""Not a problem. We can talk in my office."Once you decide what to do with your loose end.>Kill him. >Let the guys have torture him. >Leave him as he is.

>>31830127>Let the guys torture him.
>>31830127>>Let the guys have torture him.He killed our waifus.
>>31830127"Goodbye, Alfred," you say. "It's time for my guys to torture you to death now."You motion to the guards and they grab pliers and hacksaws from the storage closet. You leave them to finish the job and lead Jean to your office."How have things been on your end," you ask. "We're on schedule," he says. "In fact, we're ready to go. I just wanted to consult you once last time before we proceed. I want to make sure everything is in over."You enter your office and pull a chair for Jean. Then you pour two glasses of cognac and sit down. "It's almost over, Jean." You down your cognac in one gulp. "Just a bit longer and I can rest.""I hope you won't mind if I don't rest," Jean says, nursing his own glass. "Some of us still have much less to do once this is over."You shrug and pour yourself another glass."That's your business," you say. "Right now, I just want to know what you need from me.""We will break into the SHADOW network control centre in two days," Jean says. "I wanted to see if you'd changed your mind about coming along." It's a simple job, and well within your abilities. You only turned down Jean's first offer to join him because you had other things to do and you weren't sure if it would be a good idea for your combined forces to work together. America would greatly benefit if you both got caught. >"You know what? I think I'll join you. I'm sure you can use my help.">"No, it's best if we don't put all our eggs in the same basket."
>>31830545>>"You know what? I think I'll join you. I'm sure you can use my help."
>>31830545>>"No, it's best if we don't put all our eggs in the same basket."
>>31830545>"You know what? I think I'll join you. I'm sure you can use my help."I'm curious about this SHADOW network. What is this all about?
>>31830545>>"No, it's best if we don't put all our eggs in the same basket."As SUFFERING as getting the whole command structure caught just before the fruition of our revenge plan might be, it's not exactly tactically sound.>>31830705http://muvluv.wikia.com/wiki/Spacecraft#SHADOWIt's the early detection and intercept system for potential incoming BETA hive cores. If they're hijacking the control systems, it's probably because they're looking to use the stationed orbital nuclear attack satellites offensively against designated earthbound targets instead.
>"Just a bit longer and I can rest."Hmm, makes me wonder how much more work we still have to do in our "original timeline."
>>31830545"You know what? I think I'll join you. I'm sure you can use my help."You set your glass aside and shelve the bottle of cognac. This is something you should be sober for. "Excellent, my friend," Jean says while smiling. "I don't have the details, but I can give you the general idea. Can I borrow one of your maps?"You thumb through your filing cabinet and pull out a map of the United States. It's an old one, but you've spent the last several months painstakingly annotating it to reflect the current... situation. A lot of major cities have been crossed out and the coastlines are not at all the same among other things. "Very good, thank you." Jean points at the location of the command centre and then at three other points around it. "One of our TSF squadrons will launch a diversion from this point here. Then, our main force of TSFs will attack the main base. Once they have the situation reasonably under control, our infiltration will enter the facility on foot and gain access to the network. If all goes well, the nuclear missiles will be under our complete control.""You're investing a lot of resources into this," you say. "Where do you want me?""It's your choice," Jean says. "We have a spare Rafale if you want to join the diversion or the main attack, but we could always use someone who's good with a computer.">"You'll need a hacker more than you'll need another pilot. I'll join the infiltration team.">"Lend me a Rafale. I'll join the diversion.">"Lend me a Rafale. I'll join the main assault."
>>31830975>>"You'll need a hacker more than you'll need another pilot. I'll join the infiltration team."
>>31830975>"Lend me a Rafale. I'll join the main assault."
>>31830975Woo! Live thread for the all of one vote I'm gonna get in.>"You'll need a hacker more than you'll need another pilot. I'll join the infiltration team."
>>31830975"You'll need a hacker more than you'll need another pilot," you say. "I'll join the infiltration team.""Good, good." Jean holds out his hand and you shake it. "I'll have someone come and pick you up. We'll be using November 11 protocols." November 11 is one of the rarer contact protocols, but that just makes it easier to remember. So that it isn't compromised, you and Jean's group only use it for the most crucial missions. "I'll get ready them. Just let me escort you out."You lead Jean out of your safehouse. It's a worn-down warehouse, but the neighbourhood is filled with destitute squatters, so you don't stick out much. Getting supplies can be a difficult task, but you get by and you have a surprising number of ex-spooks in your inner circle who can jury-rig anything. You've seen one of them build an antenna out of a can of chips. Your CIA leftovers are scattered throughout Seattle. You don't trust them not to ruin your operation - after all, you subverted theirs without them ever realizing it - and being around them is only pleasant when you're sending them to certain death. You have a few days left before the attack. You can take the opportunity to cause a ruckus. It'll ruin everything if you get caught, but if you don't get caught, it might make the attack easier. You can also take the time to review your intel on the SHADOW network. Or you can get absolutely shitfaced drunk.>Attack something to soften the military up before the main show. >Review your intelligence in case there's a detail you overlooked. >Empty a few bottles of booze.
>>31831430>>Review your intelligence in case there's a detail you overlooked.
>>31831430>Review your intelligence in case there's a detail you overlooked.
>>31831430>November 11James Bond reference? Or Darker than Black?
>>31831430>Attack something to soften the military up before the main show.
>>31831504I would guess historical. Practically synonymous with remembrance, while being inspecific enough to work as a header for a set of codewords.>Review your intelligence in case there's a detail you overlooked.
>>31831430>>Empty a few bottles of booze.Drunken memories time.
>>31831504Darker than Black
>>31831430You go back to your office and look for your documents on the SHADOW network. They're old, but so is the network itself. In all likelihood, it hasn't been upgraded since the early 90s and won't be compatible with more modern computers. This will make it harder to hack, but that's why you're looking it up now. The control system is, in fact, incredibly outdated. It still uses 8-inch floppy disks and the networking looks dubious at best. The processors were upgraded a few times and it does have wireless adaptor to contact the orbiting nuclear satellites, but it doesn't look like you'll be able to do all that much if you just hijack the wireless signal. You're going to need a direct connectionIt's time to raid the junkyard.>(roll 2d20)

>>31831938You're lucky. The US military brought everything it could stuff into a crate when Seattle became one of its last few strongholds and your gang has done a great job of scavenging and stealing equipment that might come in useful. You have plenty of computer equipment that dates back to the construction of the SHADOW network. If this isn't compatible with it, nothing is. It takes you a few days to build a laptop that should let you hack the SHADOW network effortlessly, but it'll save you a lot of time and effort when you're on-site. Besides, you still have a few hours left before you need to make the meeting. Jean's always been good about providing gear, so you don't need to run your equipment through a checklist. There's just one thing you want to bring, aside from the jury-rigged laptop.>Bring your sidearm.>Bring the picture.
>>31832141>>Bring the picture. It will likely fill us with berserk rage, much better than a mere pistol.
>>31832141>Bring the picture.I really want to bring the sidearm, but I also really, really want to see where this leads.

>>31832141>Bring the picture.>>31832192>>31832211Yup sounds good. I Also wanted to bring the sidearm. They will never take us alive!
>>31832141You won't need extra weapons and even if you do, you can always just get something off the first corpse you come across. Instead of taking your sidearm, you open your desk drawer and take out a worn picture. There's you in the middle. To your left, there's Mary, six months pregnant. To your right, there's Elaine, two months in. Vivian's standing next to her. She was still needed on the front lines back then, so she wanted to wait before having kids. Your parents are standing in the background. Aside from Vivian, that was the last time you saw any of them. Then the Excalibur was sabotaged and you never saw Vivian again either. All because supporting Alternative V wasn't enough for the CIA. They had to go and make sure everyone else failed, too, no matter cost. Well, now it's time for them to pay. You stuff the picture in your shirt pocket and head off to the meeting. You sit on a park bench for a while, doing your best to look like a bum. Then you spot a man wearing a blue shirt and a red cap. You let him get ahead and then casually follow him, making sure to stop around trash cans. You don't need to go out of your way to avoid people. They just step out of your way on their own. One of the perks of being homeless. The man raps a black car twice and moves on. That's your lift. You duck into an alley and hide behind a dumpster. You take off your layer of worn clothes to reveal a decent-looking white shirt and black pants. You don't have a tie or jacket to go with it, but it's good enough. You seamlessly step out of the alley and into the back seat of the car the contact marked. You find Jean at the wheel."Hello, my friend," he says. "Let's get going.""Right," you say. You've got a long drive ahead of you. >"So, what's your plan?">"... you're going to cut me off after this, aren't you?">Say nothing.

Rolled 10, 9 = 19>>31832614You drive in silence for a long time. Long enough that you fall asleep and wake back up again. It's not until you're almost at the meeting point that you break the silence. "... you're going to cut me off after this, aren't you?"Jean doesn't look surprised."Those are my orders," Jean says. "It's nothing personal. You're useful against the Americans, but once they've been dealt with...""You don't need to justify yourself to me," you say. "We both know how this business works and what it did to us. Besides, this is something we'll need to settle after we've completed our mission. I'll just remember to bring a spare clip." "For what it's worth, I'm glad you're being reasonable about this." Jean approaches the meeting point and the guards wave him through. "And don't worry about ammunitions, I'll need you very well equipped for this." Jean parks the car and introduces you to the infiltration team. You'll be moving in by tank in case you need to plough through a wall, but you're assured that if the TSF teams do their jobs, no one will notice. Your equipment is leftover special ops gear. Bulletproof tactical vest, night vision goggles, fully automatic assault rifles loaded with tungsten rounds and semi-automatic pistols loaded with hollow point shells. These guys are ready for just about anything. Jean introduces you to the team, but you don't greet them beyond polite necessity. You simply sit in the tank as it heads towards the command centre. The drive there is a lot shorter than the drive to Jean's base was, but it's also a lot bumpier."We've reached the base," Jean says. "Hang on!">(roll 3d20)

>>31833069The tank crashes through... something and stops. Looks like you made it through whatever was guarding the perimeter of the command centre. Jean orders his team out to secure the nearby area. You follow them out after he calls the all-clear.The battlefield is a complete mess. The Rafales are currently fighting a few Raptors and Eagles and while they're holding their ground, it's obvious even from this distance that they're being beaten back. They'll last long enough to get you in the base, but no longer, and getting in the base isn't going to be easy. It doesn't look like it's been locked down yet, but there are a lot of soldiers guarding the one gate. >Fight your way through. You can do it and Jean's team is expendable anyway.>Get to a watch post and see what you can do with its computers. It doesn't look like anyone knows you're here yet and you'd like to keep it that way.

>>31833226You call Jean over. "If you can get me to a watch post, I might be able to find a quiet way in," you say.Jean nods."There's one nearby," he says. "Follow me."The two of you keep to the shadows and go for the nearest watch post. It's occupied, but a very careful burst of tungsten solves that problem. You shove the guard's corpse out of the way and look over the post's equipment. >(roll 1d20)

>>31833713you have weird superstitions.
>>31833526You find a buzzer for the base's side entrance. While it's an obvious security flaw, they can't very well open the main hangar door every time someone needs to go out for a smoke. The side entrance is also not accessible to TSFs, so as long as the enemy doesn't know there's an infiltration team, it should be relatively unguarded. You easily rig the buzzer to keep the side entrance unlock. "We have a way in through the side entrance," you say."Very good, let's go."Jean regroups with his team and they head to the side entrance. There are guards posted outside and inside, but they're easily dealt with. The sound of the battle drowns out your assault rifles and the guards inside weren't expecting a fight. What follows is the fastest marathon of your life. You follow the infiltration at a full run. The employees all had the good sense to stay in safe zones and keep out of the hallways and Jean's team has the base schematics memorized, so they make straight for the main command centre. You don't have a keycard, but you do have a lot of plastic explosives. A few short bursts of assault rifle fire is all it takes to clear the room. The damage to the material is surprisingly light."We're clear," Jean says. "Julian, hack the computers!"You sit in front of what looks like another one of the main computer councils, pushing another corpse out of the way. You plug your improvised laptop in and get to work.>Target the main American cities. It's time to end is.>Target every remaining human city. >>31834189With your improvised laptop, it's trivial to get into the system. As they say, direct access is full access. Even without the specific floppy disks usually needed, you override the manoeuvring and targeting systems. The satellites in orbit spin around to point their nuclear warheads at the Earth. Well, they start turning around. It'll take some time before they're at the right angle, and it'll take even longer for them to get in position. You lock the commands afterwards to make sure no one will be able to regain control of the system and abort the launch. If anyone wants to stop those nukes, they'll have to jump out of an orbiting shuttle and push them out of alignment. "It's done," you say. "We just need to settle our final business," Jean says as he and his men raise their guns.>Let it end. >Time for one more fight.

>>31834690You're surrounded, you've got a desk behind you and you can't turn around without exposing your back and dying. The fastest way to get to cover is a straight line. You leap forward and sweep your rifle towards the right. Blood explodes out of Jean, who's right in front of, and your sweep murders half his team. Better yet, the dying men lose their aim and shoot towards their own comrades in their death throes. You safely reach the other side of the room and vault over a desk, but that's just a temporary measure. There's no way it'll hold out against tungsten round. You should the assault rifle above the desk and fire in the general direction of the Jean's remaining operatives. You keep your finger on the trigger until the magazine clicks empty. You hide behind the desk for a few more minutes just in case and then peek out.The massive pool of blood is a clear signal that they're dead. Now you just need to get out of this base and get the hell out of the US before the rain starts falling. You've been in worse spots.
>And here's the "Disable the SHADOW network" option:You sit at the console and get to work. The photo in your pocket feels a lot heavier than a piece of paper should. You can't make this right, not anymore. But maybe you can give humanity something that looks like a future again. You can make sure no one ever uses the SHADOW system again. You reboot the computers and format their hard disk drives. All around you, computer screens turn black. The SHADOW network collapses without fanfare."What's happening," Jean asks. "What's wrong?""Nothing wrong," you say. "I just decided to do the right thing one last time."You stand up and draw your sidearms. It's time for one more fight. You'll figure the rest out afterwards.
