Yup, this is actually happening. After a year, we're finally back. Various setbacks and misunderstandings kept things from moving, but in the end, I think we learned a valuable lesson about friendship and understanding.Fair warning, I've got a lot of rust to shake off, so updates might be a bit on the slow side. And now, on with the show!***“God damn it! Where are the hell is our backup?!” You are Squadron Leader Scarlet Harrison, a witch of the 509th Joint Fighter Wing – the Demon Witches – and you are currently REALLY PISSED OFF. Globs of white hot plasma rip through the air all around you, lighting up the night sky with a brilliant shower of blueish-green light. Your shields barely shudder as the bolts splash against it, as though they were little more than drops of water. With trained muscles, you swing your legs around and roll onto your back, bending your spine just enough to fire at the squid on your six. Your Boys AT thunders and kicks back against your shoulder, nearly throwing you off course. The poor green bastard doesn't even have time to react as fifty grams of tungsten tear a gaping hole through his craft. You roll onto your front again and push your legs downward, propelling you upward in a wide half-loop as you survey your surroundings. What you see is... not much.Occasional blasts of fiery orange explosions and blueish plasma light up the small town of Alberni, several thousand feet below you. Beyond that, you can't make out much at all on the ground. In fact, you can't make out much in the sky, either. The silhouettes of Martian needle-fighters flit about, occasionally bursting into flames as one of your wingmates gets another notch on her striker. Blue-green shields spring up every now and then, giving you a vague understanding of your comrades' locations. They couldn't shell out for searchlights all the way out here, no sir, that'd be silly!
“God damn it, Rosie,” you roar into your radio. “Where the hell are those damned night-fighters?!”“Rerouting patrols, Red,” Rose replies. “Give them some time, they'll be there!”You quickly throw up a shield, just in time for a fresh volley of plasma blobs to burst into searing white flashes against it.“BANDIT ON YOUR ASS, RED!”“I,” you take aim, squinting at the blurry sheen of metal on your tail, “NOTICED!” The rifle slams against your shoulder as the martian falters for a moment, then dips into a death spiral.“Just trying to help out!” Ayaka responds, zooming past you in the blink of an eye.Your squadron is scattered, you can't see a damn thing, and back-up is nowhere to be seen. Times like this make you really wish you still had Rose up here telling you what to do.First order of business, Squadron Leader?[ ] Gain altitude, take stock of the situation.[ ] Regroup and form up. [Holy jesus, that's a lot more of a response than I expected. And here I was worried that not many people would be interested!] What little experience you have in commanding your own squadron tells you that situational awareness comes first.“Crowy!” You call out over the radio. “I'm gonna see if I can get a better view, you sit tight and keep an eye on things down here.”On the other end, you hear the screeching sound of metal on metal as she cuts down a another fighter, lighting it up like a firecracker.“Understood, boss!”You nod, then force all power to your strikers. For a few brief seconds, it feels as though gravity is trying to wrench your innards back toward the Earth as you climb. You keep climbing, not even bothering to check your pocket altimeter. Soon enough, you're nearly high enough to touch the clouds – which really isn't saying very much on the west coast.Working as much sight-enhancing magic as you can, you strain your eyes to get a better look at the fight. On the ground, you can make out brief flashes in the forests surrounding the city. Miniature walkers, most likely. Those evil bastards that swing around in the trees like drugged up spider monkeys. If they weren't made of something roughly as tough as tissue paper and spit, they would have been enough to take most of the island alone.A few larger forms of Martian tanks dot the shoreline and the harbour, but almost everything you can see is much smaller. Infantry, small walkers, maybe transports. A true raiding party, it seems.
The Human ground forces seem to be caught between the squids coming out of the forests and those landing on the beaches. They could probably use some help, especially considering the great Angels seem to be taking their time.In the sky, things seem much simpler. Mostly fighters, and nothing else. No heavy fighters. None of those fiery little assholes that stick out like a sore-thumb. Strange, considering they're usually big on air superiority.“ETA on those night fighters, Rosie?” You ask.“Still coming, Red. Just a few more minutes!”What now, Squadron Leader?[ ] Give the boys on the ground some support. Leave the flying squids for the night fighters.[ ] Focus on the skies first. “Rosie, I'm not seeing any bombers or big guns up here,” you tell your grounded CO. “Looks like a cut-and-dry raid to me.”“You're sure?”“I can barely see, but yeah, I'm pretty sure. You cut out.”“I said, it sounds like they got held up on the road,” she responds. “They're still a couple miles outside of town.”Aw, hell. Looks like these boys are going to need some help for now. You call up your squadron, who take up formation to your rear as you dive. The situation on the ground seems all the more dire as you close in. Martian plasma and mini-rockets tears chunks out of buildings all around, scattering debris and rubble across the streets. Infantry men huddle together behind abandoned cars and fallen slabs of concrete for cover. You even see one or two flaming, blackened husks of tanks here and there. You receive several calls for assistance, the most critical of which seem to be on the waterfront or the south end of town. You recall seeing Martian infantry and tanks landing at the waterfront, which would provide for fairly easy targets. However, they would also be much easier targets for the conventional forces. At the south end, miniature walkers come from the forests. Your greater manoeuvrability would be a great asset against these jumpy targets, but they tend to have the same advantage. You do recall them having a habit of jumping and snatching witches out of the air.Where to, Squadron Leader?[ ] The waterfront.[ ] The South flank.

“Alright, girls,” you call out to your squadron, “we'll take the South end. Crowy, Riley, get those blades out. I want you two taking forward positions. Watch each other's backs. Johanna and Woody, stick back, try to keep out of jumping range and pick off any fliers that take notice.”Your witches voice the affirmative and together you move on the smaller walkers.Rows small houses backed by thick masses of vegetation mark the Southern edge of Alberni. Infantrymen are scattered about porches and inside the remnants of what were once people's homes.Even as you're flying in, you take aim at a walker loitering on the rooftop of a house. Your Boys AT kicks like mule and the walker crumples and falls like one of those little collapsing toys you used to love. Ayaka cuts one down, then another, then a third, laughing all the way. Each one ends up sheered into pieces, leaving fountains of orange sparks in the night. Maybe there really is something to that whole 'FOLDED A THOUSAND TIMES' nonsense she always jokes about. You slam the rifle's bolt and take aim at another walker as you soar over the suburbs. It notices you, giving you barely enough time to put up a shield before it spews a near-invisible wave of heat from its maser. The thing about masers, as you've learned, is that the beams aren't terribly good at keeping up with moving targets. A quick turn here, a flip there, and you get your opening to take the shot...Until a glowing, witch-sized blob collides with the walker.Riley tackles the thing, bowling it over into the streets as she stabs and slashes with her punching sword. The walker's four tentacles flail and grasp at her, desperately trying to get ahold of the tiny American.“STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!” You hear her shouting as she goes to town on the thing.F-TWANGRiley freezes, slowly rising from the nearly-motionless walker. She looks at her empty hand. You look at her. “My sword bro-”“LOOK OUT!”
You nearly scream the order, taking aim at the walker that neither of you had seen. By the time your sights are on it, the machine is already in mid-pounce.Your rifle clicks as it tries to fire an empty chamber. And then, the world hangs still for a moment. The walker, just feet above Riley's head. Your eyes wide as you realize what's about to happen. An earth-shattering boom echoes through the suburb as the walker flies down the street.“ZA STALINA!”Vasilika blows at the barrel of a... much smaller cannon than you remember, a bloody zweihander hefted over her other shoulder.“Stalin's Red Angels reporting,” she says. “Kept you waiting, huh, comrade?”She did. She really fucking did. You're just about to chew her out when a male voice comes in over your radio.“Something funny on radar!” The pilot calls out. “Bombers, incoming!”Vasilika nods at you, swinging her sword into the other hand. You can see the other tank witches fighting in the streets behind her, brilliant crimson strikers flashing in the night.“Go, tovarishka,” she says. “We will take things from here.”

>>31742207You are Captain Vasilika Androva of the Stalin's Angels Tank Witch Squad, and you've just rescued one of the Demons from certain death. Riley, you remember her name as. A quick flyer, deadly with her stabbing weapon, but like every airborne witch you've encountered, prone to recklessness and loss of focus.Well, they can hardly be blamed, you think. All that flying in high altitudes and being safe from the battle below, it dulls the reflexes and the wits. You do not give voice to this, though, as you exchange nods with Scarlet, before she blasts off to meet whatever airborne threat the Great Archenemy is throwing at you now."Nice shot, Captain," Oksana Komarov, one of your two Lieutenants and one half of the Komarov Twins - a devastating pair at long range, especially when equipped with their Medium Tank strikers - compliments you with her usual smile. You return it with a grin of your own, and lock your cannon back onto your Light Tank striker's left engine."A lucky shot," Anastasia, the high-born, says as she skids to a halt beside you, the copious amount of curl-drills teased into her blonde hair settling down after a moment. With a flick of her wrist, she flings Martian blood off of her own zweihander's blade. "Then again, with the absurd amount of time she indulges the Scarlet Woman in trying to teach her marksmanship, SOME improvement is warranted."You deign not to reply here. Anastasia never really could speak without sounding like she's sneering, and every time it makes you want to punch her in the mouth."Form up, no more chatter," You growl. "Tighten the formation, reload if needed. We are nearly at the main objective."[1/2]
>>31742920Yes, sort of and as far as Scarlet knows right now, it's still on!
>>31742942In any case, you are now back in the battle. You have been delayed for a while, having been ambushed by some of the accursed mini-walkers lying in wait among the trees. In front of you, almost in your grasp, is the town of Alberni - the place you have been REQUESTED to hold and defend. Not ordered, REQUESTED. Because no one other than Stalin himself has the authority to order the Angels around."Form up." You hear your order repeated in the quiet monotone of your Senior Lieutenant, Vladislava Sokolov, her massively-armored BEAR KILLER striker creating faint tremors with every step. Unlike the strikers of the rest of your unit, where attack - not defense - is prioritized, her striker is geared towards defense, needing to house spare ammunition, supplies, and even the modular equipment that allows the tank strikers their unrivaled versatility on land. Her only armament here - if they could be called that - are giant pneumatic fists on each hand, with curved killing claws for fingers. You have seen her tear a giant walker apart with them, and pound another into scrap metal. Both times, she was rescuing you."I still do not understand, Captain," Anastasia squawks again, in clear disobedience of your previous order as you - and the unit - begin to move forward once more. "We are supposed to be the speartip in any assault. Why are you allowing this grievous mismanagement of resources? Why are we being sent in to hold and secure a...a pile of ruins?"How do you respond?Imitate her high-born language. "We were not ordered, we were REQUESTED to. I merely granted it in a moment's generosity."Shut her up. "I told you, no more chatter. Try to pretend to have discipline, High-born, even if you are clearly lacking in it."Ignore her. Ask the twins to scry ahead, see if there is anything that needs to be obliterated ahead of you. If there is, they should get right to it.

>>31743050 >>31743090 >>31743153You grit your teeth together in an attempt to keep silent. Anastasia has asked this question enough times for you to stop counting. You are sick to the ear-teeth of her whining and complaining about having to 'serve the low-born of the Demons Squadron' or 'wasting her talents fighting rabble'. Three times today she has baited you into another debate on the merits of supporting your Canadian comrades in this military action, all of which ending in shouting and curse words. It has gone beyond insubordination and into frank pettiness and petulance. If only she was not as good as she boasts with her sword, you would have ended her tour of duty weeks ago yourself. You turn to the twins instead. You tell them to scry ahead, to see if there is anything in between you and Alberni that needs obliterating - and if they do find any, then they are free to do as their duty dictates. You are tired of these running battles with the Archenemy in these dense, humid forests stinking of moose and elk doings. "At once, Captain." Oksana salutes, and it's here that she holds up both hands up to the sides of her head, index fingers pointing towards the sky. "I am scanning for targets now."You let out a sigh as you see Yuliya, her twin, step up beside her and mimic Oksana's stance. ...Why is she doing this? She has no scrying capabilities. Her answer comes in the form of a grin. "It generally works better if we do it at the same time. My apologies, Captain."You shrug here. If she wants to look as silly as Oksana, then she can go right ahead.Twins.Soon after that, both twins open their eyes, nod at each other, haul their cannons up to their shoulders - and begin firing. Loud, booming reports that shake the very ground beneath you, echoing across the blasted skies. The sound of Russian ordnance singing its deadly song will always be music to your ears.[1/2]
>>31743686After a good and vigorous shelling of the area and road ahead, you command your unit to move forward, with Anastasia and Ekaterina flanking you at the front, while the twins bring up the rear beside the plodding monster that is Vladislava in her striker. "Excellent work, twins," Anastasia calls out as your unit finally reaches the road. "This would've been bothersome rabble to deal with.""Thank you, Senior Lieutenant," Both Komarovs chime at once, and you hear the high-born snuff a breath appreciatively. So vain. So fucking vain, sometimes. You glance towards the freshly-destroyed, scorch-blackened husks of martian tanks and walkers littering the road towards Alberni. Anastasia was right - this would've been trivial to deal with, except their numbers would have held you up even more, leaving you open for a pincer attack from both sides. "There are other targets in the town proper itself, with a cluster of them at the waterfront, Captain." Oksana suddenly reports. "I recommend long-range shelling here, before we charge in. If the Scarlet Woma--er, Miss Scarlet's reports are accurate, then we would not need to worry about collateral damage - all the civilians would have been evacuated."That sounds good, you nod. Very well, they may both re-arm for another shelling--"C-Captain...?" A small, tremulous voice speaks from beside you. "Captain, I'm very sorry, but please belay that order..."You blink here, and turn towards Ekaterina - the weak link, in your opinion, of the Angels. Her large eyes staring at you from her mop of glossy black hair, nervous despite the confident way she grips her own zweihander. What, the shelling of the town? She wants you to belay that? "I..." Ekaterina audibly swallows, here, unused to your attention - or that of the entire Angels'. Even Oksana is urging her on with a friendly smile. "I sense civilians inside, Captain. Still there. Maybe four, five, an entire family. I am not sure. But they are there."[2/3]
Are the twins in SU strikers? SU-100's prehaps?
>>31744109Civilians? But Scarlet had already said in briefing that Alberni has been completely evacuated! You are sure, because you paid attention this time!"I...I know, Captain. Okay, then. So there are civilians still in Alberni, eh? This will be complicated..."Ready for shelling, Captain," Oksana and Yuliya chimes together. "Give us the order and we'll start."Right. Pragmatism aside, if lives can be saved with you simply taking a more cautious hand in your dealings, then so be it. "We will follow little Ekaterina's instincts for now," you decide, before pointing your own zweihander towards the awaiting city. "Blades and small arms only. Let us not risk destroying the town in purging it of enemy heartbeats. Only fire major ordnance if you deem it to be the last resort. Otherwise, we move as one, fight as one, kill as one." You glare pointedly at Ekaterina and Anastasia. "NO antics, no heroics, or showboating of any sort. Are we clear?"Silence, only a sharp snap as your entire unit salutes as one.Or wait, no. "Now get ready. I want the town taken before the Canadians radio in more of their complaints."Anastasia grumbles something, but you do not hear it - the sound of six tank striker engines accruing energy for the explosive charge forward overwhelming all other noise. You yourself hunker down, grinding your strikers' treads into the soft, loamy earth, before roaring loud enough to be heard over your growling pack."ANGELS! CHARGE!"[1/2]

>>31745760The comparison made between Flight Strikers and Tank Strikers are often an unfair one to make, or so you have always thought. The former blesses an individual with enough magic aptitude to fly, to be one with the planes, to take to the bright blue horizon with unparalleled speed and maneuverability - and there is nothing wrong with that. Absolutely nothing - that is, if you wish to be a flying, flightly, pretty fairy princess. The Tank Striker, on the other hand, turned anyone with enough motivation and willpower and physical fortitude into an unstoppable juggernaut. With the solid steel armor of a Tank Striker serving as your legs, you will never fly, that much is certain - but the tradeoff is absolute brutal lethality on the ground, where wars have always been fought and where it will always be won. A Tank Striker will allow you to move faster than you've ever moved before, strike harder than you've ever struck before - all while rendering you unstoppable to any lesser class of enemy armor, infantry or firepower. But the Tank Strikers are slow, as is their reputation. Ponderous, maybe. Deliberate, maybe. But never slow. It will always be as fast as the fury - the hatred - the sheer ANGER of its user. If a tank striker's user is filled with enough rage that he cannot help but charge towards their enemy - then the ponderous, deliberate gait of the tank striker gives way to a faster, quicker mode of travel. The feet and ankles lock together, the foot-claws fold up, the treads spin, the engines glow hot - and all locomotion is stopped in favor of a burst of linear speed, as the energy gathered from both the user's hate and fury is used to push the user forward. To run without running, to charge without moving a muscle. The striker and user meld as one, and move as one - blasting forward, creating a scorched trail in their wake. The Angels call this Angelflight, and it is what they have trained for years to perfect.[2/3]

The entire town erupts in light as the blurs continue to course through every passage, every street, sometimes dividing into six seperate points of light before coming back together into one cohesive unit. Leaving destroyed and cleaved hulks in their wake. It's here, at the very center of the town, do the blurs finally come to a halt, the keening roar of their abused strikers fading along with the blinding light of their excursion. No tank striker user - not even the Angels - can use Angelflight for too long, or else they risk dismemberment by their strikers overloading, and then exploding."We've purged most of the town, Captain, but a major group is still gathered at the waterfront." Oksana reports, panting lightly from exertion. "Yuliya and I can break off to take care of them on our own, it won't take long. The Captain and the others can find the civilians.""Fool," Anastasia spits, flicking her bloodied sword to the side again to clean it. "Let the Canadian proles take care of them. Just radio in their coordinates and let them sweat for a change. We are here, aren't we? We hold this position as one unit until we are..." She looks at you again. "...REQUESTED to move on to another objective. Do not split this unit up just because our allies are not exerting as much effort as us!"What do you do?Have the twins go and take care of the enemy group in the waterfront, while you find the civilians.Have Scarlet and the others worry about the enemy group. Hold this position as you were requested to.ORDER Anastasia to find the civilians with Ekaterina's help, while the rest of you hold the city.
>>31745835[x]Have the twins go and take care of the enemy group in the waterfront, while you find the civilians.>leave Anastasia and Stutters McMumbles to take care of civiliansHahaha, no. You don't let the irresponsible one and the submissive one look after the liabilities.
>>31745835>OTHEROrder the twins to take care of the waterfront, Anastasia and Vladislava are to hold position here, and we shall take Ekaterina along to find the civilians. And tell Senior Lieutenant Roskossovsky that her tactical recommendation will be taken under advisement.
>>31745835>[x]ORDER Anastasia to find the civilians with Ekaterina's help, while the rest of you hold the city.
>>31745995>go with EkaterinaYus. Must have more babby Kharn.
>>31746045>>31745995That would leave Anastasia with the rest of the unit under her command.I want to believe she's above an on the spot mutiny, but I have all these unused Shadowruns for a reason.
>>31746110>with the rest of the unit under her command.Well, there's only 6 people. 2 will be at the waterfront, 2 will be searching for civilians, so she'll only have 1 other person there to try to command, and they outrank her.
>>31746162That's a rather dangerous scatter in non-secured territory. Also, she doesn't seem to care that much about rank.
It's getting late over on my end, so I'll be heading off and leaving things with deculture. We're going to be trying this whole switcheroo thing as much as we can, but during combat for the most part.Didn't realize just how out of shape I was until I actually got going, but here's hoping I'll be getting a lot of practice in the future! Thanks everyone for participating and good night!Thread times/reschedules, my pastebin of Crimson and other stuff, etc. can all be found on my twitter: https://twitter.com/archivalfag[Again, thread is not over yet. Just in case anyone thought this was the end.]
>>31746528It's been great to see Crimson restart (reboot? continue?) after so long.
>>31745940 >>31745995You shake your head here. The town is pitiably small, as evidenced by your six-Witch unit managing to purge most of it in one Angelflight alone. It will be much more efficient to wholly secure it - and find the remaining civilians - if the unit is to be split up. "Twins, purge the waterfront. Leave none of the Great Archenemy intact." The twins salute and stomp off, already swapping their cannon's barrels for their much more devastating 152mm variant. "Senior Lieutenants, stay here and hold the town. Any reinforcements of the Great Enemy I want destroyed before they enter the outskirts." "..." Instead of offering a waspish protest, Anastasia merely tries to pop your head open with a carbon-melting glare. "And what about our good Captain, then? What will she be doing?"You grin at the high-born, before beckoning Ekaterina over to your side. The youngest - and shortest - of the Angels stalks meekly forward, her own customized tank striker making next to no noise with its silenced joints. "Ekaterina will be my wolf hound. She will lead me to these civilians, and help me rescue them."Vladislava nods here. "We will hold Alberni until your return, Captain." She glances towards Anastasia, who merely huffs before sheathing her zweihander at her side with one violent, petulant movement. You return her nod, before glancing towards Ekaterina pointedly. The raven-haired youth blinks once, before turning and gesturing with a hand to the north. "Towards here, Captain. Where I am pointing. The scent of their fear is cloying and thick, it is hard to miss."North, then. Very well. You start to move toward that direction, with Ekaterina following close behind. A couple of steps, however, and it's here that you turn and call out to your second-in-command. "Vlad! Please be kind enough to prepare rations for the rest of the squad while we wait!"[1/2]
>>31747187"Any requests?" The more amiable one of your two senior lieutenants call back."More of those yellow curly things that Scarlet made for us, the...the Magic cheese dinners! One for each of us!" You think here. "No, two for me, one for everyone else! And vodka!""Understood!" Vladislava cries back, and you continue on your way, each of your louder, heavier footsteps twinned with Ekaterina's soft, quiet own. ...At least now you have something to look forward to, besides trying to make sure that a handful of civilians do not panic themselves to death. This war...this is not the war you all trained the rest of your lives to fight, but you are here anyway."I would rather be back home killing Germans," You mutter under your breath, before blinking as you realize you said that out loud. You turn to Ekaterina, who is smiling herself, despite her crippling shyness."Yes, Captain," The young Valnikov murmurs. "I would as well."Well, at least that makes two of you.
>>31747218>"I would as well."Yeah, we're going to need to keep Johanna well away from the Russians.
>>31747218Alright, we're ending here for now, I believe. The next thread should be at the same time on the same day next week! Thanks for the support in this admittedly rough start, but hopefully we'll get into a faster clip in the next threads or so!
So, is this a continuation or a reboot? It isn't very clear.
>>31747342Thanks for running, glad to see Crimson back.>>31747246Agreed. Though if we cant avoid confrontation, we should withhold KD privileges for both sides until they play nice.
>>31747534It's sort of a little bit of both, I believe. The previous threads are still canon, but there's a bit of a jump ahead. Otherwise, it's the same old teams, except separated from the SWQU canon.
>>31747603Basically a timeskip and a separation from SWQ. Good. Very good.
