Is what I enjoy immensely, for different but loosely related reasons I enjoy tabletop. However, I would never compare the two any more than I'd compare apples and oranges.
>Played freeform>Played diceless>Played on honor system for losses>Played RPs where you could control other's charactersI've seen it all.
>>31420041>compare apples and orangesI've never understood that phrase.Oranges are spherical, orange, and generally bumpy in texture, have thick outer skins, and their flesh is naturally divided into eight segments which is then divided further. Apples are narrower towards the bottom and curve back on itself at its poles, are red or green, and have thin, smooth skins. The flesh of an apple is uniform (or at least more uniform than an oranges; it is tougher closer to the core). Oh and apples have a "core" where the seeds are located while oranges have their seeds dispersed within its segments. Both apples and oranges are fruits and are known for their sweet tastes. They are also both acidic, though large red apples are generally less so.There's a reasonably in-depth comparison of apples and oranges off the top of my head.
>>31420157>Played RPs where you could control other's charactersThis is a thing?
>>31420275It means you cannot reasonably say one is superior to the other, because they're different things. You can certainly compare their qualities, but since they're completely different things, all you're doing is stating facts about what each is like. Sure, you can tell us which you like more, but that only means you prefer one to the other. You cannot reasonably equate apples and oranges, would probably be the better phrase.
>>31420341Ah okay, thanks Anon!Yeah I can see how that would be a little wordy for casual conversation.
>>31420341Anon, that anon is just trying to be a clever lil faggot to feel smart for the night. You didnt have to explain it out.
>>31420000>Freeform RPsoooo...that's your orgasm face? no wonder you're woman (or man, I don't judge) left you?
>>31421019your*how silly of me, missing such a easy grammar problem.
You mean the only real way to play wod?
>>31420288Rare very rare. It's usually in play by post RPs where you can sub for another player if you get permission from the other player ahead of time.
I kinda was supposed to start a freeform RP on a forum a month ago, but I forgot I had actually meat space stuff to do, and now I dread returning.Might have to scuttle my account and start over.
Clearly, the most valuable thing in this thread is the quads.
>freeform RP.>online freeform RP.>online freeform RP, in minecraft.
I usually don't adopt a trip, but this time I've got a story to tell and I have a feeling it's going to be an awfully long one. It is a tale of love, action, cringe-worthy horror, and autism. It is the story of a man's adventure into the world of online play-by-post free form roleplaying. It is a story of Andrew Jackson and his Jihad. It is a story about America.>Be me, bored sitting around at home during Winter vacation.>No friends around, everybody either visiting relatives, trying to avoid me, or both>Look for some shit online to pass the time>Discover Freeform>Browse through a bunch of uninspired crap, mostly Naruto stuff or things similar to it>Come across an original idea>It's a school RP about kids with super powers, sounds shonen as fuck>Characters mostly have weird, badly translated Japanese names that are probably just English words ran through Google Translate>Seriously, there's a guy in the game named "DVD".>It's not his nick name, or anything. In his name field, legitimitely, all it says is DVD. Not in quotes.>His power?>He makes copies. That is, copies of everything. And everything he copies, he can make better than the original. Also he can copy other people and control hem without any consequence.>The GMPC is this girl with one of the badly translated Japanese names>Yuuki Hoshiko, Yuuki being her first name, and going primarily by Yuu>Her powers are ice. And that's literally all she wrote as her powers. "Yuu has ice powers" are literally the words she used.>To make matters worse, the two make it painfully obvious that they want each other. Like, they two-man circle jerk.>So why join this game you ask?>Because I'm bored as fuck and looking for shits and giggles.>Most of their character sheets look really plain and bare bones, so it didn't seem like I needed too much effort to get accepted into this RP. So, soon enough, I began filling out my character sheet.
>>31422527>Name: Andrew Jackson>Gender: Male>Age: 17>Personality: Loves America. Expect lots of MANLY RESOLVE.>Bio: Born and raised in the American South. His grandaddy and his dad taught him how to fight and get along.>Gifts: 1. Power to create and control eagles at will 2. Power to induce tears in target>Pic related as character portrait>As strange as it seems, I got in with only two attempts.>The first time, the GM thought I needed more effort in my character>So I breathed a sigh of relief and made some shit up, and before you know it, Andrew Jackson became enrolled in SAINO, school for the gifted.>Now, SAINO is basically X-men academy, except instead of mutants, it teaches kids that gained magical powers after being chosen by magical butt-serpents.>I wish I was making this shit up. After the gub'ment or whatever figures out you have powers, you basically get kidnapped and sent to the school.>Basically, SAINO was created to combat magical butt-demons that randomly attack Earth at random intervals because lolsorandomXD>They provide you rooming, clothing, and food as well as an education as long as you do what the school says. They also allow you to have one personal item from home.>Naturally, my personal item was an American flag, which in character, I saluted to after every in-game day. America.>So my start was pretty plain. I basically woke up from a kidnapping and read up on everything that the school was.>My start was pretty late, most of the characters already getting to know each other, the players already starting to ship their character with someone else's>So Andrew Jackson makes his way to the mess hall where everyone else is, and like the gentleman that he was, he introduced himself to everybody.>"The name's Andrew! Andrew Jackson! Freedom extraordinaire!">I also made the observation that most everyone else either was Japanese or had a Japanese name.>"Those are one of them ka-ta-nas huh? I know those Japs use 'em. Are you a Jap boy?"
>>31422664...I am intrigued. Go on.
>>31422664>So, instead of DVD, who I was addressing, the GMPC (who just happened to be sitting next to him) responded.>"Are you speaking to me..? And what do you mean Jap?">And oh God was she in for it.>"You see, my granddaddy used to fight with guys like your granddaddy- he probably woulda won too. See, I bet I'd be speakin' your language but the Brits couldn't keep it in their pants and just had to drop them bombs">And so, my target finally responds>"I am a Japanese how can you tell I'm not I'm wearing a mask ok" DVD set angrily>Notice the typos? Good, because that's more or less exactly how he typed.>I made a meta analysis of this, and replied wit ha bit of meta.>"Whoa there fella. Slow down. See where I come from, we understand that there are two languages: American, and not American. I ain't sure what you're speakin', but it don't sound like no stars n' stripes.">I also mentioned>"We Americans can't just go around waving our freedom around- it'd make all you guys jealous.">And I would have left it alone there, but then shit started getting real.>DVD punch him in his face and made go flying into the doors and made 5 colones appear in front of him>Again, that's exactly how DVD writes.>So I take the punch- I mean what else can I do right? I took the opportunity and made it the scene where my character manifests his powers.>Make two eagles, soften the landing with the power of FREEDOM.>"You know, for someone so scrawny looking, you sure pack a punch">After groaning around a bit, Andrew Jackson shrugs off the pain with SHEER GUTS and like the manly man he is, starts flirting with the girls.
>>31422796>"As much as I'd love to play around, I've got some freedom to spread." are my character's last words>Before he flirted with another girl that is.>So the first girl I approach is named Gracie.>She used illusions and shit.>So I started to flirt, making up really shitty pick up lines as I went along.>"Are you an American? Because I hope you're free tonight.">Several bad pick up lines later, the GM finally decided it was time to move the plot along and begin INTENSIVE COMBAT TRAINING.>So we go into the training room to fight a lower level demon>You know how we got powers from butt-snakes? Butt demons do pretty much the same thing too, but end up mutating their hosts or some shit.>So we got no description. The GM just posted a picture and started using ice beam on the fucker. Everyone else just followed along.>So for the first fight, my power being the summoning of eagles and the inducement of tears, I job pretty hard against this guy.>"CHAAAAAARGE!" I screamed before getting beat down.>So after a long rant about FIGHTING SPIRIT, my character learned to control eagles and finally sent one straight toward the demon.>The fucker dodges.>So DVD finally steps in>DVD summon a clone of the demon and had it attack with the same power and pending it to the ground"this is too much fun" he says as he summons 10 clones of him all them having swords"ATTACK!" and the clones did as he said they started to slash away at the demon
>>31422664This has been posted before, hasn't it?
>>31422962>Remember Gracie?>Well, I also flirted with another girl and she apparently had an established boy friend.>His name is Xerxes, and he's a furry.>As in his power was actually to shape shift into various animals.>No list.>So apparently I pissed the guy off by flirting with his grill or some shit, and the fucker bucks at me with his furry horns.>Suddenly, CD decided that he actually wanted to be the better man and sic'd one of his clones out on Xerxes to protect my guy.>DVD got in front of Xerxes and made a iron box around him and Andrew "I got you">No prob, shrug it off and continue FIGHTAN.>Xerxes apparently was roleplaying anger issues.>So Xerxes' girlfriend is like "pls stahp". At which Blue Ray posts again>"I will not lose another" DVD got rid of the iron box and jump up to yuu helping her get out"I will not I will not I will not">The GMPC says some pseudo-intellectual shit and calms Xerxes down.>Furry finally calms down because of his qt grill and the love-love sekiha tenkyoken the demon>and the instructor basically just goes "GG scrubs"
>>31423004Screen cap this bitch
>>31423143No, you screen cap this.*unzips testicles*
>>31423057>DVD set on the ground"so what is next Dorian">Dorian is basically Professor X, except due to GM fiat, doesn't have cool psychic abilities. Or a personality. The guy was stuck basically to healing.>So then actual classes started and we were allowed a bit of down time.>Also>"yuu do you want to be my partner" DVD says as he getting up>Happened at some point, and Cassette officially became GM's girl friend.>It was in history class where I met the only sane player in the entire game.>The character he played was a teacher, a history teacher.>His powers were basically the ripple, thinly disguised as butt-serpent magic. I came to refer to him as "Honorable Sensei">Initially because that's what everyone else called him, but eventually because I actually found the character to be pretty cool.>So we learn about Hitler's rise to power before WW2 or some shit, the next class happens, then the next and the next.>We'd have gone too the next class shortly after due to nothing much actually happening, but at that point nothing much actually happened>Like, people just either stopped posting or didn't post as much.>So Honorable Sensei-Sama pulls my character out of class and the two of us spar.>Naturally, I job. Eagles get BTFO, he's pointing his hamon fist to my face.>Then at the last second, an eagle comes flying out of my character's mouth and takes him by surprise.>The guy shakes my hand, then we wait another two days in real life before activity started picking up again and the game got a few new players.>>31423004Fresh OC. Donut Steel
>>31423187But I'm too loser to know hooooow!
>>31423227>His powers were basically the rippleHow fabulous on a scale from 1 to 10 was he?
>>31423227>So after classes and lunch, then more classes>A lot of down time for the characters to all mingle and shit.>Andrew Jackson had no time for socializing, however.>Time is justice. Meaning stuff happened while I wasn't at the computer.>So I get back as soon as people start touring every body else's rooms>Apparently everyone already decorated their rooms.>Quick, I had to think of something!>Invite players to my room>Place is covered in eagles. No bed, furniture is torn up and drawers are open, nesting material lining it. Clothes all over the floor>"Where do you sleep?">Open closet.>Bed is nailed to the closet walls>"Why is your mattress like that?" to which I responded>"A MAN ALWAYS STANDS ON HIS FEET"and with that, I have to head to bed. I'll post the rest of the story some time tomorrow hoping that the thread doesn't 404 when I get back.
>>31423227>his powers were basically the ripple
>>31423301No one is more fabulous than Dio!
>>31423307I will await with baited breath annon>A MAN ALWAYS STANDS ON HIS FEETI fucking lost it
>>31423307Don't you go to bed damnit!
>>31420288When I roleplayed on Forums we had this thing called Chaotic Fiction.Basically you could introduce a character but said character could be controlled by others to say or do things that seem proper for them.If you had an issue with how your character was controlled you would take it up or express discourse there but most of the time people would be okay as long as someone didn't just write your character as suddenly raping someone.Of course every poster had his "main" character who was untouchable and a host of side NPC's that others could potentially hijack and control to do whatever. It was fun! For what it was.
>>31423227But of course, escaping the jojofaggotry it's impossible
>>31423407I should also take the time to point out that this Chaotic Fiction shit I did is absolutely wretched in hindsight and every time I go back and read it I'm more or less just embarrassed about the horrendous gurgling swarm of poorly thought out ideas I called dialogue. The only value I have with it today is basically praying that my ability to recognize these flaws means I've improved as a writer and can now actually have characters talk more like normal people.
>>31423315More like this.
bump for story time
LIGHTS OUTThe year is Twenty-Twentysomething, and a global catastrophe of world-spanning proportions threatens the entire planet! Based on that one popular anime series about the underage-but-not-really team of hot-blooded inventors who must risk everything they know and love when goo-tentacle aliens invade Earth intent on stealing all our fossil fuels, Lights Out is everything you'd expect from a play-by-post forum populated by high-school dropouts and creepy NEETs.Lights Out uses the Free-Form Bullshit (FFBS) engine.Your character begins play with the following assets:5 improbable events4 internal monologues3 death-defying moments2 NPC friends1 tragic backstory
>>31426987Improbable Event: These can include as many details as you like, so long as everything you describe happens in one moment. For example, declaring that your character fire a shotgun out of their stolen sportscar at a helicopter while ramping off the top of a skyscraper counts as one improbable event. A maximum of two other players and one group of NPCs may be affected by a single Improbable Event.Internal Monologue: These can be used to pull skills, resources, or situations out of your ass. By brooding to yourself about things you've seen and done in your life, you can use Internal Monologues to gain the effects of Improbable Events, Death-Defying Moments, or NPC Friends. For example, by reminiscing to yourself about the time you spent training in the wilderness with a strict but fair kung-fu tutor, you can gain that tutor as an NPC friend.Death-Defying Moment: When things go bad, these allow you to make up a reason why you didn't actually die just now. NPC Friend: A powerful asset, these allow you to glom onto someone else's scene, inserting yourself at the behest of a previously-unseen NPC even if you don't really belong there. For example, another player attempts to go to a club so they can socialize and ERP with a different character. By using an NPC friend, you can be told to meet at that club, even if you would otherwise have no reason to be there.Tragic Backstory: This is the big gun, only to be pulled out once. You can use this to defend a previous action, no matter how far-fetched your excuse is. Whether you just blew up a factory full of orphans or attempted to rape another player's character, your tragic backstory forces everyone to forgive you.Be careful! When you run out of assets, you disappear from the forum and are never heard from again.
Freeform RP is still better than D&D.
>>31426987>>31427002>>31427016>>31427043Stop shitposting. We're waiting for more story time about Andrew Jackson.
>>31427066That's nice, summer kid. While you're waiting for your silly little storytime, the adults are gonna be talking, okay?>>31426987Where's the rule for encountering the creepy sex shit that always. fucking. happens. on freeform RPing sites?
>>31427016How much money can I pay to make quest threads disappear?
>>31427290None, questfags find your suffering amusing. (To be entirely fair, I ask the same thing about 40k shit. And yes, I know the history of fucking /tg/, it doesn't change that 40k is boring shit I see too much of. Isn't that the exact complaint you're gonna use about quests?)
Bump for the bump god
>>31421654>With the MLP mod>And a text filter that makes everypony's text get bucked up. Underworld is known as Hay.>A griefer called EverybodyHatesMe is immune to command-line moderator action
>>31427416Questfaggots also have the mods on their side; they stay within their circlejerk, and the mods barricade it from criticism.Moot knows what complete shit Quest Threads are, and uses /tg/ as a containment board for them.I cry for /tg/.
>>31428623...I'm happy that all /tg/ has to contain is quests, to be honest. When you see the spillage of other containment boards, you kind of have to shudder.
>>31428623Actually, /tg/ was created as a containment board for Warhammer crap because /b/ kept getting shit up by "Warhammer Wednesday".Because, y'know. Moot knows what complete shit Warhammer is, and needed a containment board.
>>31428730I know how /tg/ was started, and I'm not a fan of the sad, tired and childish game that is Warhammer 40k. Moot uses /tg/ as containment for both. It was started to get 40k off of /b/.If /tg/ became /tg/, /qu/ and /40k/, all three crowds would benefit.
>>31429019I'd agree with that if it wouldn't lead to three boards that are each so inactive that people piss off to other sites.
>>31429267It's a possible consequence, but you also have the opposite happening with constructive boards like /vr/, /diy/ and /out/, and with containment boards like /lgbt/ and /mlp/. Given the opportunity, these boards have flourished and have become very popular.Or it could end up like /po/.
>>31429267I agree with breaking off the quest threads, but breaking off 40k just makes you sound like a buttmad Pathfinder babby.
>>3142961840k has reached a point where universe discussion is discussed more often than the game itself, à la /vp/.I think Pathfinder is an over-inflated system that was outdated from the very beginning by merit of it's connection to 3.5. The art style of the books is very ugly and the general aesthetic of the game is too goofy for me.I'm being forced to play a game of it tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to it.
>>31420341But let's be honest... we all know apples are superior
>>31429749I wish I could play Pathfinder...
>>31429749You poor bastard.>>31429784I disagree. Oranges are clearly the superior fruit.
>>31429749Forced... To play a game y'know, "forced"

>>31429894Yes, I'm sure if you removed the hard covers and rolled them up that is precisely what's happening.
>>31429894Are you implying that there's any other reason anyone plays Pathfinder?
>>31429749>art style of the books is very uglyI think it's fucking great, what's wrong with it?
>>31429875This settles all the fruit analogies.
>>31429972The guy that does most of their art likes stacking too much shit on the people. They have about 10 weapons, a backpack with a bunch of crap sticking out of it, and more belts than a Final Fantasy character.
>>31430113>The guy that does most of their art likes stacking too much shit on the people. They have about 10 weapons, a backpack with a bunch of crap sticking out of it,So, you mean they're actually carrying the gear someone would use while say...delving into a dungeon?
>>31429972It's got that "World of Warcraft" sort of half-cartoon style that some people don't like. Almost all of it is drawn digitally and takes no care to hide it, which could also turn some folks away.>tfw no RPG styled after illuminated manuscriptsWould look cool as fuck and very nice on a shelf.
>>31430122Yeah I always put "Belt x 20" on my character sheet.
>>31420341>It means you cannot reasonably say one is superior to the other, because they're different things. But that's wrong, you can easily determine which one is superior based on qualities like nutrition, taste, ease of production, etc.
>>31430207This is one of his "Busiest" pieces, and I only see a single belt. A lot of bandoliers and storage things, as well as straps for the armor, but that's it.
>>31430113It could be worse. It could be the artwork from the 3.x books, where everyone wore armor that looked like it was cobbled together from six different corpses.
>>31430239This is only what is objectively bad. Subjectively, the piece is very, very bad.
>>31430239This is not even close to the busiest ones.I'll give you the strap for his quiver, the two for his gauntlet things, and pauldron straps as practical. He's got six belts on each boot, he is wearing two, possibly three belts on his waist (one with the dagger scabbard, one with the pouch and tankard, and a possible third one actually holding up his pants), then he's got like ten straps hanging around his crotch.
>>31430337Yes, armor has a lot of straps, and buckles necessary to put it on. It's not a magical one-piece leotard or something.I'm not defending the artist ONE BIT, I think he's shitty and I don't like him. But, plenty of buckls and straps is totally reasonable, as is a lot of gear."Hurr durr BELTS" is a dumb ocmplaint.
>>31430267I will admit the Final Fantasy crack was a bit of hyperbole, I doubt they've beaten that one chick whose dress is made of belts.
>>31430381It's an easy cop-out to add interest and dimension to a character. It shows poor design and lazy thinking. In real life, most pieces of armor will have little to no visible straps. Sometimes, armies will enter battle with almost no straps, belts or fasteners; just their mail and helmet.I know it's fantasy, but come on now. The boots don't need the buckles, the cuirass doesn't need the buckles, and the belt doesn't need it's own belts to stay on the body. There are other ways to draw a generic "battle-hardened vagabond". Just about anything is better than this, though.
>>31430393Lulu, from FFX. The story supposedly goes that she was designed specifically to challenge the 3D rendering teams with her belt-dress.
>>31430653And to be fap fuel.
>>31430653>>31430653"DM? I would like to challenge the ruling that my character can only wear one magic belt at a time."
>>31430753Is she really WEARING those belts, though? I know other people have looked at that picture and figured that if she jostles at least once, that whole "dress" is falling apart.
>>31430769She's probably not wearing them AS belts. It's probably been fashioned into more of a traditional garment, with all the belts sewn together.
>>31430769are you implying that she keeps putting on each belt as a normal person would, but because she's not very good at it the belt slips down her waist, and she has to put on another belt to replace the one now sliding off - and this keeps happening again and again until there are dozens of belts congealing around her legs, when she really just wants one fucking belt to stay around her waist?
>>31430814Are you implying that Final Fantasy follows the conventional laws of physics?
>>31430814And some two-sided tape to hold that dress to her breasts, holy shit.
>>31429784>>31430235I knew I'd find those exact two comments, the moment I read the original post.

Nope, instead I kissed the girl because MAN.>Moment of silence.>Time bro is the first to remark on my balls>Everybody else seems slightly more disgusted at my character.>"Ew! Ask someone before you fucking kiss them next time!"
>>31434577This is a wonderful story.
>>31434577>Fast forward to after school.>Everybody's talking to everyone else.>I'm busy gitting gud with Timebro, but eventually settle back to my room.>Eventually, Gracie chats up my character.>"Hey, you're a lot stronger than I thought.">"Y-you t-too">Then Xerxes sees us and warns me to leave.>Amanalwaysstandsonhisfeet.wmv>I copy-paste the internet tough guy pasta, which for some reason, nobody got. The GM actually called me out on it, saying to tone down my hate until some guy actually explained to her that it was copy pasta.>So Xerxes gets BTFO and I make off with his girl.>The night after>The man that I am, I have one bitch on each arm.>One of them is Xerxes' girl friend.>The other is DVD.>So both Xerxes and Yuu get pretty damn butt blasted at me.>DVD finally logs in and punches me at another door.>Then a bitch fit happens and I try to start some shit.>Timebro and sensei pull me out of it.>So at that point, I decided that maybe I should be civil with everybody.
>>31434669>So I stopped being so over the top nationalistic and toned down all the comedy.>Eventually I just became Andrew.>The other players started liking me more, but it felt like I just blended in with nothing to really contribute.>Then the game simply got boring to me and I visited less and less.>The plot progressed, but it did so slowly. Every now and again, we'd get a demon fight.>I helped DVD's player with his grammar and spelling and even taught him how to write longer paragraphs. Of course, he never improved.>And then the game just happened.>It was a thing that I logged into, posted when I felt like it was time to, then went over to play vidya after because I couldn't just leave everyone else hanging.>At that point, the plot progressed to where we've fought enough demons and have enough knowledge of them that we can take them on at their home turf, and that's exactly what we do.>Alright, whatever. I was bored, but felt that I still needed to finish, just because everyone else wanted me to.>Timebro and Sensei still with me all the way.>I get to sleep, and the next morning both in the real world and in game, we begin entering the demon realm.>I show up for about half the battles, and play mostly support.>DVD and Yuu get most of the action, as usual.>Finally we confront the demon lord. He gets frozen to death and DVD makes a tower of clones to throw him into space, never to be seen again.>Things were finally over, and the game just went on to being a normal high school slice of life.>Or so I thought.
>>31434728>The next thing I knew, Sensei PMs me, saying that he's disappointed with the direction of the plot and my character. That the development was really bad.>Timebro says about the same way, wanting to be in the spot light with me while I instead chose to stay at the sides and let the "main characters" do all the work.>So Timebro challenges DVD to a fight, calling him out on his BS.>The fight begins, and ends almost as quickly.>"this is too much fun" DVD summon clone of miguel with more power and have it attack him. "you dont stand a chance! im too strong">At that point, Timebro is pretty fucking pissed off.>"YO SOY MIGUEL EDUARDO VILLALOBO CIELO! MY NAME IS MIGUEL CIELO! And I am the man who will defeat you and over come myself! Like my ancestors, the Aztecs, I am a warrior of the eagle! You have no effect on me!">So apparently, Flash Drive stopped time faster than Timebro.>MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA>And time bro dies.>But right before his death, or I guess after since the GM actually wrote the next post detailing the dying, Miguel looked at me.>He looked at me and murmured weakly "It's all up to you now... buddy..."
>>31434892>At the point, I thought little of it, despite Sensei scolding at me in character about letting my friend die.>The game just became another game to me.>I wake up one morning and do my daily routine. Now, this is in normal life.>I listen to the KLK sound track, which had just been leaked, literally blasting it.>Now, where I live, we normally don't get a lot of rain. But one day, the sky was covered in clouds and there was a 60% chance.>So I went outside to bring the flag in.>And there it was, just waving proudly. And as I approached it, I could hear the beat of the drums followed by a short pause.>DON'T LOSE YOUR WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY>I break into tears and run with flag in hand into my room. I log in, and immediately begin posting.>There I was, in my room. There was only a single eagle, standing on top of the American flag. The flag that had been my keepsake.>The eagle glared at me in dissapointment, but also tempted me.>It tempted me to fight.>[FREEDOM INTENSIFIES]>So finally, I call out DVD on his bull shit, and challenge him to a fight.>Being the person he is, DVD gets pissed off and accepts the challenge.
>>31434994>"Alright mother fucker. It's time for freedom.">DVD create stronger clone of Andrew "you know how much this is? 500. 500 clone. you have no chance">"The only numbers I need to know...ARE FIFTY STARS! AND THIRTEEN STRIPES!">Strikes me down with my own eagles, until they finally stop.>"Hehe. Your clones aren't shit compared to me. You might be able to make them stronger, but I'm the real genuine article! You power is to copy! And that's all you're able to do! Copy! You possess neither art nor craftsmanship! But me? I'm able to create! And right now, I'm going to take your body and create a corpse!">Sic my eagles at him.>He stops time using Time clone- but neglects one thing.>I put an eagle inside of his body, stuck in the frozen time. He demands it to stop.>I promise not to kill him because I'm the better man.>Turn away.>The fucker punches me into yet another door.>So now I'm pissed off.>He stops time once again, but again didn't count on one thing.>Timebro being a persistent mother fucker.>Apparently had Sensei time-proofed>Shoot ripple into DVD, causing him to deconstruct the clone and restricting his copy powers.>"Come on! Enough with this slow dancing! Hit him! Just like old times!"
>>31435119>With my MANLY RESOLVE and the POWER OF FREEDOM, I jump in for one final strike with my fists. So what happened next you ask? Well, long story short, I got banned. No trial, no appeal, not even a warning. Apparently, the GM reported me on godmoding and apparently I was bad enough I was banned from the entire website, never to return. You could go look for SAINO right now, but a lot of posts were deleted and the game is marked as innactive. Also, I made half of this shit up because the actual game ended before it even got anywhere. What happened to sensei? He continued to other games. I made up timebro just to be another companion, because we need more of those. The other players also just went on doing their thing, as if the situation hadn't effected them at all. Fucking jerks. And this is where I lose my trip- but not my way. See you later, space cow boys.

>>31438216Yeah. Unfortunately I went along with it because, hell, why not. It was nice to be involved for once. Most of the decisions on character design were, to them, "How can I make this character as badass looking as possible?" When that means chains on their pants, zippers on wifebeaters, and black and red/purple/whatever color, some really stupid designs are made. Most of the ones I put on mine were battle scars that would make sense with the game. Others were just "How can I show how badass this character has been in the past?"
I really miss back when I did freeform forum RP but I just can't get into it anymore. The next best thing I've done in the past few years is playing on RP servers in Garry's Mod.

Is this character over the top enough, but subtle for this freeform? He's a gritty noir detective who was investigating a strange series of murders related to the occult. Saved the life of a witch who blessed his gun. When he pulls the trigger the bullet 'skips' time and space to land directly in its target. Basically a shot that cant be blocked. However, much to the detectives annoyance, fate seems to force the bullet to nonlethal targets, so he'll fire but hit the targets arm. Either way he always hits.thoughts?
>>31442709Yeah, that seems like it works. Will you constantly narrate yourself in a gritty noir fashion?
>>31442709Its ages 13-18
>>3144270911:32 AM Weather: Pissing Rain. That damn witch's gun failed me. He was right there.Captain Mexican was right their with the bloody taco in his hand.I pulled the trigger. The bullet hit a spleen or something. He fled.
>>31442734he could still be a hard drinking and hard smoking detective...just young
I used to play on RP forums a lot in my teens, and I can say with absolute conviction that the only good freeform is one you do with trusted friends. Even then, that's not surefire. Some freeforms are wide open, allowing anyone to post bios and join up in any thread. This is a terrible idea almost universally, because without a screening process you're opening yourself up to somebody charging into a scene, fucking it up beyond repair, and then hordes of players refusing to 'retcon' anything. Random douchebags can poison a plot or a scene irreparably, and most freeformers refuse to deny someone from playing with them until they've had several chances to do so already.Other freeforms do have a loose screening process, and some of those can be passable - as long as those doing the screening aren't terrible in some way. A lot of application-based freeforms are staffed by idiots who harbour personality cults and will refuse you for personal reasons rather than reasons of quality. Of course, this is true of the un-gated freeforms as well, but you don't need to work to get into them.Without a system, all freeforms will develop cliques that gain social power in order to hold sway over the events of the gameworld, whether or not they know they are doing it. The game has no rules, so the only way to establish power is to be among the "in-crowd" who will stroke your ego and fight your battles for you, ensuring that you never go without interactions the second you want them. Anyone else is left in the dust unless they can snag like some sort of parasite onto one of these groups as well.I have not participated in a single public freeform that was worth the time. Even the ones that claim to be 'better' than the others are exactly the same, just with a veneer of smug superiority. The only thing freeform is good for is amusing yourself with terrible roleplayers and maybe convincing some of them to actually get better, if you've got the stomach.
>>31442905>Even the ones that claim to be 'better' than the others are exactly the same, just with a veneer of smug superiority.Sounds a lot like /tg/ to me.
>>31440175>>31440292Between this and Gaia, /tg/ is trying tor raid three sites at once. So wonder nothing gets done.
>>31440292I might get in on this. Haven't roleplayed for years and the last time I did it was a freeform shitstorm but I found /tg/ after that and grew up a fair bit.
>>31443129I don't think we are raiding the first one
There are generally two kinds of freeform:>the game with lots of shitty players that goes on forever>the game with a very, very select few that burns out almost immediatelyI'm a victim of the latter more often than I'd like.
>>31443467I know what you mean. I like small games with good friends because you can normally trust them to be okay, but they never last long. However, the reason I like the CONCEPT of a big open game is because I don't have to carry the plot, and I can literally just have my own, minor story going on that intersects with other people while they have wars and punch suns. I like being supporting cast.
Bumping for Murika.
I feel like I should have tons of great stories about nightmare freeforms, but for some reason I can never think of good singular events in threads like these. The experiences always sort of blur together.I think the real problem is that unlike the (probably fabricated) stories you usually see in these threads, I don't think I've ever "won". I usually just fuck off or do something else when shit starts to fly, and leave everyone to it.Weirdly though, people seem to let me get away with things, even though I play really low-powered characters a lot of the time. I've had more than one jerkass powergamer take a weird shining to me and let me actually hurt them (but no one else could touch them), to the point where I sometimes get known as "The guy who got to punch [x]" after the person is gone. It's weird. Why do power gamers let me, the guy who willingly plays C-list characters, actually win sometimes?
>>31443467There was an anime board I used to hang out around on a lot about 15 years ago that was heavy into freeform RP. It was pretty stable due to people calling eachother out on bullshit but it was pretty bland most of the time (since in any conflict, neither side wanted to "lose" and thus things usually just petered out).Although I and a couple other people did team up to blow up some guy's gundam. Supposedly, he actually committed suicide a short time later.
>Be playing a super-powered game back in the day>In the bar, chatting with some dudes I don't know>Guy walks up talking about how he's on super-roids and tougher than all of us combined>Tell him to fuck off IC and start insulting his tiny steroid penis>He says, in a public space, that he "pulls out his 13-inch non-erect cock">Everyone leaves, telling him no woman would ever stick something more than a foot long in their vagoo, good luck having sex m8tey>As we leave, a gay guy walks up to him and say he's still interested

The Gaia thing is more or less dead - there were only four of us, and two dropped without a word. I guess I'm on board with this one. I'm going to be a frat boy. Any suggestions on what my power should be?

Thread bump right here, because this raid promises to be pretty awesome. Also, I came up with an idea for a character power, and wanted to share it. It's basically the creation of portals to other places, but the near end can be created pretty much anywhere within an area around the character, whilst the far end can be just about anywhere in the universe, including other points in time. The portals themselves are indestructible due to being present as an alteration of space rather than being their own physical objects, have edges that are functionally infinitely sharp due to the same, and infinite amounts of them can be created, so long as there's enough space to make them. The character themselves would start off as a pretty basic transportational support, then get more and more powerful as s/he figures out how to use their power - starting at using them as unblockable knives, then moving up to invincible chainmail/platemail that, for instance, also blocks mind control because spacey bullshit, then figuring out how to make them appear near stuff like stars and black holes, and then overlapping two or more portals to produce space-time glitches that do something or other. I dunno, "erasing people from existence" sounds pretty good for something like that. This would culminate when the character turns themself into a permanent portal to any location in history and/or existence, basically becoming an immortal, ageless, invincible being a la one of Homestuck's First Guardians. The quote for that moment?>"I HAVE ASCENDED TO IM-PORTAL-ITY."mfw no character to go along with the power

>>31450038Sounds like the worst sort of thing that comes out of freeform, right up there with DVD's power above. You should be ashamed of yourself.I'm looking for a picture for my frat boy. Thing is, I don't want them knowing how I'll be playing him until I do. Does anyone have an edgy/brooding pic that'll work?
I posted that Jonny and Tankred Story some while ago. Should finish it.
>>31450038>>31450230If it's for the insanely gifted school yaoi thing, you're late. Applications appear to be closed now.
>>31450240And part 2.
>>31450252There's more fa/tg/uys there than peoplefrom the site, arent there?
>>31450435I'd say it's about 50/50.
>>31449750Gaia thing, nigga I've had an account since fucking high school. Post this shit and I'll pop in and see what I can do.
>The headmaster's descriptionsMr. Spender?
>>31450529My thoughts exactly.
>>31450468Oh Travis, are we still going to be roommates? GM is asking who we're going to dorm with.
>>31450479http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/barton-town-role-play/purgatory-a-walk-in-roleplay-all-welcome-ipc/t.88019183/I'm the cowboy. The guy I'm playing cards with (who seems to have abandoned the raid) is also /tg/, as are the skeletons, obviously.
>>31450618>Forest RPAh shit nigga, this is going to be bad. I'll have to mull on this for a bit to get a decent character in mind. Any goals we have with the raid or are we just showing them how RP is done?>If I was taking this seriously, I'd probably app a 'darkly dreaming' type bitch who's assuming that the game is a prolonged dream, or maybe a Dante Alighieri expy. I actually do freeform I just have particular standards.
>>31450598Yeah, let's do it.
>>31450732No real goals, though I wouldn't be adverse to one. Maybe we could burn down the forest?
>>31451293Eh, I tend to approach with a 'show these bitches how it's done' mentality. I'm already partway through a profile for the 'I must be dreaming' chick. Still need a name, but that'll come easy. What's the cowboys name btw? so I can check his profile.
>>31451293You should create a logging company.
>>31451383Bill "Bullseye" Westen, I think.capcha: roughest balankaWhy, yes he is.
>>31451417I find it offensive that your name is not on her register. I'm thinking 'Katrina Summers' or some shit off of seventh sanctum. Might need to get going in the very near future though, have to grocery and road trip soon.
Going through Iwaku, and I find this gem in an FMA RP:Appearance: Johnathan stands about 6'5", and weighs a hefty 328lbs. His hair is jet black, styled and slick, and he constantly wears sunglasses. His style also pays homage to the great Major Armstrong, as evidenced by the (gloriously bushy) mustache and tendency to rip apart his shirts. He is heavily muscled, though pale, and wears thick iron gauntlets similar to Armstrong's. The thick gauntlets have the phrase "Laufet, Brüder, eure Bahn, Freudig, wie ein Held zum Siegen" etched on them, a phrase from Friederich Schiller's 'Ode to Joy'.Background: Having grown up hearing the tales of heroism of the likes of Fullmetal, Flame, and most importantly, the Strong Arm Alchemist, Johnathan decided at an early age that he was going to be 'just like them'. His focus in his studies was to emulate Armstrong's alchemy; although he only partially succeeded, his own mixture of kinetic-based alchemy and physical strength, stature, and stamina make him a very formidable opponent. He now seeks the Forbidden Sands, called to adventure by it's siren song. To Engliten, where his fate awaits him.Knowledge:Alchemy - Johnathan uses a type of alchemy that manipulates kinetic energy. He can transfer kinetic energy from one object to another, so long as he is touching both objects. He can also drain kinetic energy from a projectile and apply it to his own strikes and thrusts, making him effectively bulletproof. (Unfortunately, due to his tendency to go shirtless, he's especially susceptible to bladed weapons.)Alkahestry - He is well-versed in the theory of alkahestry, and so can recognize it when it is being used; he is, however, unskilled in it's use. I mean, it isn't half bad for a copy, but jeez, I don't even think the kid knows that kinetic energy is....Left out some details so I can fit the text.
>>31451516Yeah I have to go now. I'll be on later tonight. If the thread is dead I'll just message your gaia account.
which site are we hitting?once I know that I'll add Investigator Damian Poltz, AKA Pops.

>>31451961There's some other one on gaia. That's all I know about it though.

Guys ! Someone in the Iwoaku ( Fandom section) Has posted a warhammer 40k roleplay!
www.iwakuroleplay.comDamian PoltzPrivate EyeI have work tonight but if you see me online, friend me or something on the site and we can get trolling. I could use a sidekick.
>>31453047Not the original poster, but:https://www.iwakuroleplay.com/threads/scholam-psykana.45852/link for those who want a good laugh

>>31426987>>31427002I'd play it. Would probably be fun if you have a few hours to kill and can't get a bigger game going.
What exactly are you guys planning to do with all those characters?
>>31454692We are going to have some fun
>>31444975Nobody here, writing up an immortal janitor.
>>31454740I hope you're aiming more for shenanigans and messing around with eccentric characters than just ruining their game. Just shitting on them wouldn't be very funny (and honestly a dick move, even if they are crappy freeformers.)
>>31445770>freeform RP>GM>SKills and bonusesThat isn't even remotely freeform
www.iwakuroleplay.com/threads/miss-lunas-home-for-insanely-gifted-children.47853/Finally, it has begun.
Since reading this bit of gold https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7568728/1/Saruman-of-many-Devices I've wanted to try and Freeforming it. however, finding people to read it, and then play it have been problematic.
>>31456044I look forward to watching this and seeing if /tg/ makes it worse or better. In the meantime, does anyone else have any stories?
>>31453190this is ours ya git!
>>31456044Will this adventure be subtle for once? Probably not, but let's watch it anyway!
>>31455229>I hope you're aiming more for shenanigans and messing around with eccentric characters than just ruining their game.Po-Tay-to, Po-Tah-To.If a buncha weirdoes like us can "ruin" your RPG by making silly characters, it wasn't that good of a one to begin with.
>>31456716I don't think the making of silly characters was the issue, more the idea that someone might end up playing just to fuck with everyone. Rather than enjoying themselves with weird or normal characters, we're talking those stories where people enter someone's RP and end up starting a rebellion, destroying the city, and getting the game shut down because everyone is dead or something.
>Ivan was not a smart man, but he had his ways of testing a man's virtue.>He pulled a potato from his pocket and rolled it along the bleacher, so that it landed next to this Yoshida person.
>>31456879Basically this, yeah.
>>31455229>>31456716>>31456879Thusfar we're probably going to stage a small Cold War, due to some of us being MURRICANS and the others being comrades. We'll likely just be messing around though, maybe lightly derailing the GM's ideas here and there.I'm predicting that we'll either all get banned, some people will just drop it due to boredom, or a combination of the two will end it. Due to half the players being tha/tg/uys, this will in all honesty probably kill the game. But whatever, the GM is clearly deep into the forum and will likely just make another game after that. Best case scenario, we get a new screencap story out of it.
>>31457052I''ve been on /tg/ too long. I immediately assumed "Testing his virtue" meant "Testing his virginity".With a potato.
>>31457052I still remember the first Ivan adventure, when he scared the shit out of a teacher by rolling potatos through the door. The teacher was supposed to be some kind of unholy creature, too.>teacher picks a raw potato and slowly bites it as a sign of peace>Ivan thumbs up and silently leaves...I THINK that was the first.
>>31457338That actually was the first, like a year ago.Good times.
