You and your idols have basically been running ragged trying to prepare for today's event, which would require your idols to split up on 3 simultaneous missions. Ushiyama had been tireless in drilling Rin, Niko, and Cole in the new routines, while the girls assigned to the drug bust trained endlessly at the MOUT course preparing for combat. You felt a bit bad for Cole though, having to balance her training between performance and combat throughout the week. Maybe you should make it up to her sometime.Nevertheless, you had your own little mission to handle. You were sitting in a Hyperion VTOL shipping you to the Pandora Maximum Security Prison, where Hyperion's massive prison concert was planned to take place. Mr. Blake had invited you to come observe the preparations and spot any potential security concerns. You look out the window and gasp. Even though you were still quite a ways out, you could clearly make out the skyline of the prison. It was literally a miniature city in itself. "We'll be landing in five minutes." The pilot announces. "Please remain seated and engage safety restraints.">Do a quick roll call on your idols.>Do a bit more research on the prison.>Other

"Unfortunately, Mr. Blake has been delayed." One of the guards grunts. "He will be here shortly. There was a section of the prison set aside for visiting civilians, though found it was no less heavily guarded and fortified as the rest of the prisoner. Guards were liberally spread across the room, eying each and every visitor suspiciously. Cameras and sentry guns also kept vigilant watch. "E-Excuse me, you are the Producer, right?" >>31289942>>No, I'm not going participate in anything like that.
>>31289883this kind of world is likely has to be changed from the top down. that and we don't know jack about her. she could be a spy and this whole thing she's pitching is an act. or this is a test of character from our sponsor too.>>31289857that raises another question. early on in this quest, the commies pulled off an attack at the airport and got people killed. hell the broducer was in that fight and he capped a couple of them. be careful of the WLF's ties....
>>31289978If by valuable you mean "sell out to Jack," then yes, it could be pretty valuable.Which I'm more or less open to doing. America doesn't negotiate with terrorists and neither does P-San.
>>31289942>No, I'm not going participate in anything like that.Nothing personal.
>>31289942>Tell me moreMight as well know both sides. If we can't help, we can always choose not to get in the way.
>>31290001The big question is: "Did they get a photo of Producer?"
>>31290004We can possibly pull a sting operation if Hyperion ponies up the hazard pay.
>>31289942>>Do some research.I'd rather make an informed decision.
>>31289942>Do some research
>>31289942>No, I'm not going participate in anything like that.>Do some research.we can do both. and jail breaks is BAD.
>>31290039It's not idol related business either, so that means P-San's free to gear up and murder a bunch of little terrorist shits.
Just tell her no. No matter who this Roosevelt is, she is not worth risking our reputation or the lives of our girls.
>>31290039If we do, we better take out the entire group. We don't need remnants on our asses.
>>31290085third string terrorists ain't shit.
>>31290026They might have, we didn't try to cover up. Shit, the shadowrun is strong here.
We could offer only our services and tell them to keep our girls out of it
>>31290069>>31290085Yeah, the point is to get buddy buddy with the terrorists than take them out from the inside, with help from Hyperion of course. And very lucrative hazard pay.
>>31290122Or we could sell out the radical, dangerous terrorists to the legitimate corporation.Who do you think P-San was killing innasandboxes? Terrorists. If anything he should be full on 'Nam style flashback/PTSDing about this.
>>31290129Not sure if that will work also the Producer is supposed to be behind the scenes, helping the idols
>>31290152You're right, we should hire someone to quarterback for us if P-San's in deep rolling with the crips.Good idea, Anon!
>>31290152This, we're supposed be backstage either helping or overseeing performance not running around doing whatever.
>>31290143I think most anon's agree with you.Unless Merc shows that they have legit concerns.
>>31289942"No, I'm not going to do anything like that." You say stiffly. "I suggest you go find somebody else. We're an idol company, not mercs.""That's highly regrettable." Skyeye frowns. "If that's the case then, farewell."With that, Skyeye spins on her heel and walks away. Sound suddenly rushes back into your ears like a tsunami."Ah, Producer, my apologies for making you wait." You hear that well mannered voice again."Ah, it was nothing, Mr. Blake." You smile politely."Good, good. You didn't encounter any problems on your trip here, did you?">Tell him about Skyeye.>Say nothing.>Say nothing
>>31290245>Tell him about Skyeye.Sell him so hard P-San's going to win Salesman of the Year.
>>31290245>Say nothing or Say nothing.Choose both.
>>31290245>>Tell him about Skyeye.
>>31290245>>Say nothingShit, I feel bad now
>>31290245>Tell him about Skyeye.
>>31290245>Say nothingAnyone with a hellfire backdrop is either an awesome action hero, or very bad news, and this guy does not resemble the former. Also, why didn't they just use our concert for a distraction to break the guy out without asking us?
>>31290245>Tell him about SkyeyeBut don't straight up say it, ask questions about any enemy groups, the WLF, I want to find out how much this information is worth and their interest in it.
>>31290309Dude, do you not know anything about Hyperion or the borderlands universe? They are one of the karmatically worse corps to ever exist.
>>31290309Idol companies are cheaper than real mercenary companies for about the same level of performance.Something about "regulations," and "lawful proceedings," or some namby pamby hippy shit like that.
>>31290309True.... They could have gone with the OP and not told us. But instead they told us.Maybe they are planning on us telling Mr. Blake, while they actually have something else planned.
>>31290357I don't like that other anons killed the conversation when we could have gathered more intel.
>>31290357But Jack is paranoid as shit. That wouldn't make the situation any better unless this is a ridiculously elaborate Inception-level ruse.
>>31290245Seconding >>31290312Bring it up and heavily imply it.
>>31290396I was mostly annoyed she was being so vague.
>>31290396I don't talk to terrorists.
>>31290427that and she showed up to us right in the heart of the prison zone. the timing of her appearance is not just odd, but a rather dumb too.
>>31290245"Well, a concern did cross my mind." You say, trying to let this out slowly. "It's no secret that companies like Hyperion have... critics that don't agree with their policies. Wouldn't they like to use this concert as a distraction to attack?""Well, terrorists attacks are always a serious concern." Mr. Blake sniffs. "And we always take the utmost of security precautions to protect against them.""I see." You nod."Why do you ask? You don't happen to know something, do you?" Mr. Blake raises an eyebrow.>Tell him.>Don't tell him.>Other
>>31290490>Don't tell him.
>>31290490>Tell him.P-San can't afford to be coy. This concert's a pretty big deal, and everything needs to go smoothly.
>>31290490>Tell him.She approached us. Remember that.
>>31290490>Don't tell himbut still do this>>31290312
>>31290483Also true, she could had come in our office. Anywhere else but in the heart of the prison with maybe days before the event itself is stupid
>>31290581that would have logically given her the time to explain herself and her group in full to us, the mission in as best she can, and what it'll pay. but no, she shows up out of the blue thinking we'll jump on this like an idiot caped super hero.
>>31290309funny enough Blake is a pretty stand up guy unlike his boss. He's reputed for paying what he promises on jobs he gives.>>31290396It's /tg/ what else do you expect? Actual intellegence?>>31290490>>Tell him.Skyeye likely lumped up as against them so no point trying to resist.
>>31290490"Well, a member of the Workers' Liberation Foundation approached me just now." You say."Really now?" Mr. Blake's eyebrow rises even higher. "What did she want?""She said something about breaking out a prisoner named Roosevelt.""Ah. That makes sense now." Mr. Blake nods. "If she was approaching you, then they must be extremely desperate.""What?" You blink."You see, we know the WLF has been planning to try rescue Roosevelt for quite some time. He's been a rather large thorn in our operations, sabotaging equipment and destroying facilities. We have so far thwarted all possible attempts.""Then why approach me now?" You ask."Because we leaked information that Roosevelt would be transferred to one of our penal colonies in Africa." Mr. Blake grins. "I hear the weather there is nice this year.""So you wanted to lure them out?""Precisely." Mr. Blake nods. "Which, by the way, means that we have a new offer for you. We have no doubts the WLF will try to free Roosevelt no matter what. Perhaps you can assist us in stopping them? You will be compensated accordingly for the extra work.">I'm interested.>We'll pass.>Other
>>31290680>>We'll pass.We don't want to antagonize anyone at this time.
>>31290680>>Other"We'll see how the concert goes. My girls are idols, not soldiers. Unless you want -my- expertise specifically"
>>31290680>I'm interested.P-San hasn't killed a man just to watch him die in so long.
>>31290680>I'm interested. Can you be more specific on the compensation? An advance would be nice, and better equipment will increase the chances of success.
>>31290680>We'll pass.I have enough to worry about with this concert.
>>31290680>We'll pass.I'm worried about Rochelle if we were to do this
>>31290708Guys, why aren't we playing this angle up instead of infighting over yes or no
>>31290770Because we could die.
>>31290770Because the Producer is only to train idols and direct them. He's not supposed to be on the front lines
>>31290680>>31290708Supporting this, changing my vote from >>31290728
>>31290680>OtherI am not exactly in the habit of taking on jobs out in the field with out running by the boss and doing some lead up time. but for now, think that I'm interested and go on.
>>31290680>>We'll pass. This is not fucking producer quest, this is Cyberidol quest
>>31290811as opposed to our girls dying, or morale loss from >>31290758>>31290818>Because the Producer is only to train idols and direct them.Thats only for IDOL work though, and putting down a prison break isn't idol business. That rule of thumb you're quoting is just that. You can't blindly go 'herpaderpa producer bad', you need to look at the specific situation and decide if it applies.Currently, the concert IS idol business, but a jail break ISNT.
>>31290708>>31290856i guess a mix of his and mine can work too.
>>31290856As much as i hate agreeing with fluffy, thats actually a good point.>>31290857Like it or not, P-san is part of the team, and charging into every mission we get offered is a good way to get our girls worn out and fed up with all the amoral, gross, disgusting cyberpunk shit. Its the p-san's job to SPARE them from that shit, take care of stuff in the background, and think about the long term - which means not running our idols ragged constantly.
>>31290856Could we please stop this "run by the boss" shit? I get you guys want to act professionally, but we're the producer, not him. We can make command decisions that the Boss will respect.
>>31291004Yeah, I agree. We need to be comfortable making our own decisions. It's ok to delay to take this job, but making excuses is weak.
>>31291004yeah, it fucked us last time, too.that was a pretty solid hint that we need to be THE MAN ON THE SCENE ourselves
>>31290909I just feel some anons don't share the same sentiment and just want to play as P-San.
>>31291106Its more that I think everyone ignores p-san and what he can contribute to the team. There's a middle balance, but nobody can see it because lolgirlboners
So what is the plan of having P-San taking part in this.Honesty we should just stick to idoling
>>31291152But P-San is supposed to help and train Idols. While he may not like it Delta City has certain rules, if we're just a merc soldier sure. But we're known as the Producer of Clover Entertainment. Shit will still be connected to us.
>>31291004I see "run it by the boss" is code for "I need some time to get our shit together so we're not going into this half assed."
>>31291156>So what is the plan of having P-San taking part in this.As the guy who wrote it....Mostly to see what the other guy says, honestly. And because this shit's gonna happen during the concert. That means all our idols are gonna be busy.P-san's gonna be the only one with hands free.
>>31291209Well, NPCs see it as "I'm going to delegate this to someone else because I don't understand I'm in charge"
>>31291213So we have no real plan other then P-San is strong!
>>31291206>While he may not like it Delta City has certain rules, if we're just a merc soldier sure. We're not on delta city. We're on pandora. Its like you're not even reading everything we I wrote. And yeah. .Having idols involved with a prison oppression is a -fucking bad media day- that our opposition will run us through with.We keep the main business the hell away from dirty shit. Thats our JOB to make the company as a whole look good
>>31291209Then fucking say so.
>>31291235Or "I need my hand held & am too spineless to make decisions and/or face my own autonomy b/c I'm afraid of the consequences of failure"
>>31291250Wouldn't it be a good thing? Our idols are so good and awesome they pacified prisoners through song and dance and a little gunfire?
>>31291250But we're related to those Idols and will carry that shit too. We're going to get the Idols involved by association!
>>31291261...is it not obvious enough? >>31291271It's been over a month now and you still haven't gotten that?
>>31291241That depends entirely on the situation at hand, though.this is pretty clearly a test of hyperion loyalty, and how far we're willing to sell out for money. (hint, we shouldn't). Which is why we want to keep the idols the hell away from potential Bad Publicity(they're only involved with the concert). If they want help taking down terrorists in a combat situation, that's something P-san is uniquely qualified for - more than the idols - and more importantly we don't want a repeat of Girls Killing Civilians. If they need heavy support, P-san with a sniper and kzwolf are more than enough to ruin someone's day.
>>31291290Yeah, but most of our combat idols are not here.
>>31291290Please refer to this >>31291288
>>31291288>We're going to get the Idols involved by association!>Not putting on a hyperion uniform and mask.
>>31291363Seriously, it's like people forget WHY terrorists (and LEO) wear balaclavas in the first place.
I think this decision has annoyed Merc...
>>31291411I really hope it has.
>>31291422>>31291411He ran VMQ2, I'm pretty sure he's either a spirit of pain or he's got the patience of an especially unflustered saint.Either way I'm sure he's only amused.
>>31291411any copy paste from the hug box on Merc reaction?
I think their have been several things that Merc reference of why P-San shouldn't interfere
>>31290680>Sorry about that delay!"Well, this isn't something I want to get my idols involved in." You sniff. "Unless you want to retain my personal services.""That would also suffice." Mr. Blake nods. "If you so happen to encounter these WLF ruffians, you will have full access to our armory and personnel to put a stop to them.""Thanks." You nod."Just the standard procedure. Now, let us proceed to the main stage..."As Mr. Blake leads you out to the main yard, you have to admit, you're rather impressed with all the preparations they managed to erect. Up against one of the prison walls was a massive, elevated stage, high enough that it couldn't be scaled, or least not easily. Along the rim was a row of electrified barbed wire. Temporary guard towers for snipers were posted in various areas, and sections of the yard were fenced off, no doubt to keep the prisoners from being able to mass together into a single unified blob."Do these security arrangements satisfy you?" Mr Blake asks.>Yeah, I like what I see.>Well, you could actually use... (specify)
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (specify)Do they have machine guns?Because if there's a breakout we're going to need those, maybe flamethrowers if Hyperion is feeling particularly unethical (lol). Lots and lots of machine guns.
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (I don't see enough attack dogs or war crimes. Is there any chance we could get some VX dispensers to really put the fear of god in the inmates?)
>>31291477>>Sorry about that delay!Did we.... actually make the right call here, merc?Or were you too busy facepalming at us?
>>31291477>>Well, you could actually use... (Tear Gas launchers near the sniper towers)If they managed to break out of the fence, we need something to break or subdue them.
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (specify)High Pressure water hoses.
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (specify)What's the surveillance equipment like, to monitor the prisoners and to scan for weapons, improvised or smuggled? Also to scan for any possible bombs or such. Also, how is the security of the prison of the whole, considering there might be an escape attempt?
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (Machine Guns)Why are they forgetting what is literally the cornerstone of infantry combat?
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (specify)Shock Zone for Cole?
>>31291532Well, considering P-San's narrative said he both flew in, and it was like a tiny city, chances are security is pretty tight and even if they made it out, there's not many places to run to where they wouldn't be run down by a Littlebird with a FLIR.
>>31291477>>Well, you could actually use... (specify)"What do you have for non-lethal solutions? Tear gas, tasers, or do you just not bother with it?">>31291529My niggah. YES.
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (Machine Guns)
>>31291547Isn't that just "everything on and near the stage"?>>31291555Any LTL options probably invite lawsuits and cost more than FMJ.
>>31291477>Well you could actually use ....ANYTHING FOR LARGE CROWD CONTROL, AND PUTTING DOWN MASSIVE GROUPS OF RIOTING PRISONERS AT ONCE.
>>31291477Hidden flamethrower/mono-filament turrets inside the barbed wire "box".
How unethical would it be to combine High Pressure Water hoses AND Cole's Shock Zone?
>>31291477>>31291528>>31291532>>31291555This.Jesus, I understand the need for firepowers but I think it might be a bad idea
>>31291587Less warcrimey than nerve gas or biological agents.5/10, tops. Probably a 4.
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (Machine Gun)Because we're going to need those if there's a mass breakout by a bunch of Maximum Security Prisoners. Not that I'm opposed to non-lethal options, but it'll be nice to have the option, especially considering how outnumbered we are.
>>31291477this is an open air court yard, right?>Well, you could actually use (flying drones, non lethal security drones to patrol the zone.)
>>31291590>Jesus, I understand the need for firepowers but I think it might be a bad idea>>31291206>But we're known as the Producer of Clover Entertainment. Shit will still be connected to us.Its like anon is forgeting WHAT THEY JUST SAID.
>>31291606I think it's a least 7. it's indiscriminate
>>31291554The terrorists were planning an escape attempt, they must have some sort of plan.>>31291540>>31291561I rather tear gas. Better crowd control.>>31291587Nice synergy. Just make sure Cole doesn't get wet. Or make auto-dry clothes, like Back to the Future 2
Wait so these prisoners are in for severe crimes like murder, right?
>>31291631>I rather tear gas. Better crowd control.I'd rather both, in case of mass breakout by a bunch of max security prisoners who massively outnumber us.
>>31291624Um, I was voting for the non lethal armaments...
>>31291639This is cyberpunk.Petty theft(your clockout reciept, we recycle that shit)putting gum underneath a tableshowing up to work early. (loitering)looking too goodwearing sunglasses at nightSome seriously heinous stuff, here.
>>31291628Not really, the water hose is pretty specific. It's big draw is that it's cheap and easy while being effective at abusing blacks/minorities.Zapping people isn't anything particularly novel in a cyberpunk society.Land mines and ebola would get more attention from the Hague.
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (Machine Guns and Non-Lethal)
>>31291672>while being effective at abusing blacks/minorities.You're a democrat aren't you?
>>31291672No I meant combing the two. Your also forgetting the big puddles from the hose in which the electricity will conduct.
>>31291580>>31291477>Hidden flamethrower/mono-filament turrets inside the barbed wire "box". Just to make sure that we won't be stormed by any Hyperion medical experiments
>>31291696Republican. I also hate young people. Which is why i love anon. I don't want to know how many of you are liberal, tumblr-loving idiots and can just focus on the game without raging.
>>31291696I don't see what political affiliation has to do with police brutality, frankly.>>31291704That's not really how electricity works, especially if the water is very pure. If we're pumping in salt water, sure, but it's not saltwater it's going to be clean water probably pumped in from Lake Michigan.
>>31291477>Well, you could actually use... (Machine Guns)>>31291708Just go with machine guns or flamthrower kits, massively less complicated to set up than turrets.
>>31291714This nigga knows what's up.
>>31291714Ah ok, my inner /pol/ flared for a moment when i read that.it reminds me when democrats tried to say the Lincoln wasn't a republican>>31291742They are used on everybody, not just minorities and i found it weird that he focused on that.
>>31291749I'm alright with machine guns (last resort)Flamethrower might be very, very bad
>>31291766It was true historically. though it was used on crowds though but I think that wasn't the point he was making
>>31291766When's the last time smokey's been able to use the hose on American citizens?I am, in fact, the anon who said it in the first place. I'm not sure why that other anon is coopting my statements as his own.
>>31291750>>31291766>>31291800>other anon is coopting my statements as his own.?!?!?!!But! My bait was perfect! How!?You all seriously have some thick skins! You might just cut it as producers?
>>31291477"Well, you could use more machine guns, especially if we're dealing with large crowds." You say."Of course, we have a wide array of weaponry at our disposal, from less then lethal to absolutely lethal." Mr. Blake chuckles. "We DO have an arms production branch, after all.""All right, so what kind of criminals are we dealing with here?""The vast majority of the criminals in this complex are here on minor crimes, such as burglary and assault. The least violent offenders will be closest to the stage, while the more violent ones are segregated into sections further back." Mr. Blake points out the area. "Of course, our most dangerous prisoners will be kept in their cells.""That sounds understandable." You nod.You notice that the sun was beginning to set. Your idols would be starting on their missions soon."If you would like, I could show you more the prison, if you're curious." Mr. Blake says.>Yeah, that sounds great.>Actually, I got some other business I need to attend to.>Other

>>31291856>Yeah, that sounds great. This is a dangerous mission with a lot of potential to go bad, we NEED more intelligence.
>>31291856>>Yeah, that sounds great.I'm thinking that this is a que for us to notice something that will drasticlaly effect the mission if we take it.>"Of course, our most dangerous prisoners will be kept in their cells."If all the security is focused on the stage and the idols, and they're LEAVING THE DANGEROUS PRISONERS in the cells, which is where Terrorist Guy is gonna be kept, then they have an opportunity to get around all the security and go straight for him.Which is what we're being hired to NOT let happen.Don't back out now. We're a sniper.Recon the combat area. Make sure no fuckups are gonna happen later.

>>31291856Final destination voting?

>>31292391Yeah, thats exactly what I wanted to cut down on.When you lay down ALL the cards at once, and look at it as a whole without shitposting, there's ways to nullify/mitigate pretty much every edge case scenario that anon is afraid about.

>>31292445But that's the thing, there's no "one scenario" - it's just Anon screaming "BUT IT'S WRONG TO ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL, THAT'S OFFENSIVE."There's no rational counter-arguement to that. You can't just shout "Shut up faggot," because then your argument is equally nonsensical and valueless, and your position gains nothing. But there's such traction among those anons that nothing can be done, because they can assemble into such a large voting bloc as to essentially either filibuster or outright vote the issue into oblivion.I doubt some shit Merc's posted will change their minds. They don't want their minds changed.

>>31292503>in the first 2-6 threads there was constant bitching about her and how she was gonna kill us in our sleep, it took some socializing to get people away from that train of thought.Precisely this>>31292541>I still want to do my suggestion of having a show and tell session with the girls, having the doc sleeve Producer to show the girls what the Harbinger system can do.Actually, your post is one of the things that inspired the project. The medical-safety net is what changed my mind to 'hey, this is actually useful, AND rings true with the producer's past'
>>31292541To what end? That Producer can control them like a muppet on a whim, and the only reason he doesn't is because "he's such a nice guy"?That's only just going to cause the girls to resent P-San in a way that will never go away.People, especially people like Julie/Cole/Melissa who value their sovereignty even more highly than the average citizen, don't ever get used to a fact like that. They bite and kick and chafe and scheme ways to cut it out or cut if off.And that's a well adjusted adult. Now add Cole's temperament into that.Fucking shitshow.

>>31292585To show them that it is an option.I expect we will eventually run into a situation where use of the system is going to be a real possibility so it would be better for them to freak out in safety rather than freak out in the field in a crisis situation. It also gives them the option of the system to the girls. Once they know that we have something like that, they know they have something to fall back on, even if it is a distasteful solution.
>>31292735I'm suggesting that KNOWLEDGE of the system, not its deployment under whatever circumstances Anon finds its use acceptable, is the problem.

>>31292818I was listing off failed interventions/coups/etc.The suggestion was that the US is sick of the same old bullshit and they're going to try something new.
>>31292682>Yes, I as an Anon understand there are worse things in the world...but the girls have a very different, 16 year old perspective.Worked that in, actually.Part of making the system workable is setting up two pools of users - adults into adults, teens into teens - as well as setting up a permission system, where the person-to-be-jumped has to initiate the transfer/call for backup. To be jumpable in the first place, you need the physical hardware to support it anyway, and I can safely say that all our teens will go 'HELL NO' to brain implants. When you actually look at the requirements, the list of compatable personell at clover is actually really, really limited.
>>31292818Yes please, the sooner the UN lifts those sanctions and offer concessions to the Iranians the better, they're more or less the only sane people in the region.

>>31292844But now what you've suggested is that the harbinger system is essentially useless, since it requires user consent (the installation of the wetware in the first place) before anything can happen, and as you said that's not going to happen. So barring P-San roping them down and drugging them up and forcibly installing the systems....then, you know, this car's outta gas.
>>31292896Shit.Can we use star power?
>>31292896Welp, there goes a Star Power.Glad we've been saving up.
>>31292865Not really...the ayatollah is a shithead. The new PM is only decent compared to the previous ones, there's not many gains to be made in Iran without some sort of insanely huge populist movement that installs a government that's more or less not-antagonistic to the west/US/NATO/etc.Not likely. I'd rather have a Lebanese and Tunisian and Kurdish ally-states rather than depend on Iran or Israel or Turkey.
Rolled 15>>31292951>>31292912Don't we still fail anyway?
>>31292899>So barring P-San roping them down and drugging them up and forcibly installing the systems....then, you know, this car's outta gas. There's actually a temporary alternative that's got lost in all the confusion. One that doesn't require surgery, and wears off by itself. To use your analogy, Those two systems together mean that the car has gas when we need it to, and won't explode while in storage. You're also forgeting its a two-way system. People can jump into P-san, and its significantly more likely that we'll be the puppet, not the puppeteer. Ourselves, jenner, and z-wolf are our current harbinger candidates.Try to think of us as emergency doctor units.
So...is it too late to take out life insurance policies on the girls so we can cash out with their deaths?Do we need to pay out to Rochelle's dead?I wonder what sort of paperwork they signed.
>>31292973P-San is usually in the CiC and we're not suppose to be out in the field. Why would they jump into us?
>>31292967It's been a while so I'm not sure, but I think it generally turns a horrible situation into just a terrible one. Like them getting spotted instead of flanked from behind by an unknown patrol or something.
>>31292973Just because someone can doesn't mean someone will.I could go see a movie tonight...but it's past midnight and it's late and I don't wanna.Likewise nobody will jump into P-San, making it effectively back to that one way street. One of the girls controlling Producer is an insane waste of resources, whereas producer controlling a girl could potentially be the difference between life and death.
>>31292967But it won't be a critfail. Eating a regular fail here and there is generally no big deal unless they happen repeatedly over a short period of time or on a "roll to not be shot in the brain" roll (and if that's happening something has gone to hell already). Critfails can cause things to go tits-up very fast.
>>31292989>P-San is usually in the CiC and we're not suppose to be out in the field. And yet, we go out with our girls nearly -every mission-.Its more accurate to say we USED to camp the CIC, but don't anymore. And that itself is the answer to your question:Because the producer already has the augs, and is in the field and onsite so much, he's the candidate to be replaced by someone when shit goes down.the -strength- of the system is being able to use our better trained base personell while not dragging them into the field.Need techs? Falynn replaces producerNeed medical? Doctor replaces producerNeed onsite hacking? Hacker comes inNeed both? Jenner gets replaced too. She's exmilitary, and would have the equipment. This also handily addresses the 'but it steals the show from the girls' arguement. It keeps the support staff supporting the idols, it just changes how they support. No detraction involved>Just because someone can doesn't mean someone will.MFW someone actually gets this aspect of the system and doesn't bitch about it.

>>31294099>>31294124The law enforcement apparatus is chartered by a city, county, or regional authority acting under the auspices of the larger, governing state body: ie, the City of Los Angeles has its city charter granted by the state of California that legally recognizes LA as existing, providing all the handy benefits that brings (representation in Sacramento, etc). This is the local authority-level we’re dealing with, aka “smokey,” “5-0,” “bear,” etc. These cops operate, legally, within the established law enforcement structure of the existing city (in our case, Delta City). They have the authority to conduct searches based on warrants, make arrests based on evidence gathered from those warranted searches, etc. It’s a pretty common trope in cyberpunk literature/fiction/etc to represent the banality of decrepitude of modern society by having the actual police work/constabulary/etc contracted/out sourced out to another, separate private corporation/entity....Clover isn’t one of those companies. Clover is an idol company that engages in mercenary work for profit or benefit. They have no standing in the law enforcement community.>[1/2 (I think)]
>>31294321Thanks to the majesty of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and a few choice other amendments (13th is pretty great), the private citizen is entitled to a vast and sweeping array of protections against the abuses of the feds and the staties. Things like “due process,” and “trial in front of jury of peers,” and such are no doubt familiar to you. That 13th part is important, because it means that states have to comply with all the other amendments too. Total bitch for states, who up until then got to do essentially whatever they wanted by shouting out “10th! 10th! Fuck off, pigs, 10th!”So, back to smokey. He now is responsible for following bullshit ideas like “due process,” meaning that he has to perform all his actions in good faith, in compliance with both federal (privacy rulings, etc) and his local state and city rulings (what his actual job is (see: difference between highway patrol and a sheriff and a regular uniformed officer). So that means that Smokey’s playing with a pretty limited set of rules, which is why you’ve no doubt watched your local nightly news about people doing naughty things and then being let off - most of the time that’s because an officer working that case did a bad and fucked up the entire investigation/arrest, leading to evidence being thrown out, which is then reflected by a jury or judge verdict.Clover isn’t acting under or through the powers of a city, and it certainly hasn’t been given any sort of credentials or licensing or permissions or any other synonym that make it function like a law enforcement office - this means that everything Clover does is considered, legally, perpetrated by a private citizen - a private citizen who does NOT have the power to conduct arrests, or investigations, or anything resembling actual police work.>[2/3]
>>31294332Vigilante justice, Batman or Spider-Man style, is illegal. If you punched out a guy who you saw beating his life, and left him tied up in front of a station, he’d be the victim, because you just assaulted him, kidnapped him, and a whole host of other naughty things people aren’t allowed to do to each other. To bring it back to the situation at hand: Clover isn’t acting through or on behalf of the local law enforcement agency, it’s “community service.” Clover has no standing to conduct police operations because they aren’t police at all - they’re just vigilantes “helping,” out. This means that while the drug dealers are actually no doubt doing all sorts of illegal things it actually doesn’t matter because it’s not any sort of lawful law enforcement agencies/personnel doing the work. What’s happening isn’t police work, or a drug sting, it’s a pre-meditated spree killing from a criminal justice perspective. If Rochelle were to have kneecapped him and left him for dead with smack in his pockets and the real police came around, he’d be able to lawyer up so hard he’d take Delta City for all its worth in the following settlement suit because there IS no due process, no protection from cruel and unusual punishment (getting kneecapped by some bitch with a gun), or anything else he’s entitled to if the actual popo did the busts.>[3/3]
>>31294215Well, at least the normal crowd seems to be enjoying the music as well. You're pretty sure the Tunnel Snakes would cheer on anything Cole would do. Seeing that things were well in hand at the night festival, you switch over to Rin. However, you see that she's asleep, so you instead call up Jenner's phone."Hey, Jenner.""Producer.""How did the radio show go?""It went smoothly." Jenner says simply. "No major mistakes or anything. I think we might have gotten some more exposure, especially after hearing those songs Rin sung.""That's good." You grin. "Mind swinging by the night festival to pick up Niko and Cole?""Yeah, I can do that.""Thanks."You then receive a ping from your anonymous District 6 employers. While they weren't too happy that you didn't completely eradicate the gang, without their leader too coordinate with them and no income to pay off the police, the drug dealers were pretty much done for. So that's $2400 deducted from your total per mission. The M224 does NOT count as a heavy weapon, but it comes damn close. So, to clarify on some issues brought up:After a series of civil wars in the Middle East, the Kurds took advantage of the confusion to form Kurdistan, which took parts of Turkey, Iraq, and Syria. Of course, none of them were happy about this. The US "convinced" Turkey to stay out of Kurdistan, and sent troops to assist the Kurds in keeping anti-Kurdish forces out. Most Western countries recognize Kurdistan, but many others don't, like most ME nations, who consider Kurdistan Israel 2.0. It also happens to be a huge market for weapons. Mexico is technically not a state at this moment, and is currently more of a very large protectorate or territory. There's some debate going on to decide whether they should annex all of Mexico as a single state or break it up into multiple smaller states.Japan is still Japan. However, their population has declined so sharply that almost 25$ of their current workforce is automated.(cont)

Only the designated "commander" can use Harbinger's direct control ability or delegate another person registered on the network to use it. You can only control 1 person at a time.indefinitely.There's no built in safeguards for how or when you get to take direct control. Commander essentially has the power to do whatever he wants with it.
>>31294932ahahahahahhhahahahaha.All TG's fears come to pass!http://pastebin.com/Q0nGYMJTI didn't want to link this while the thread was in full swing, but.... in retrospect i should have.
>>31294932>There's no built in safeguards for how or when you get to take direct control. Commander essentially has the power to do whatever he wants with it.>checks name. Checks trip. Sees exclamation point>nope, not a ruseguyYup, time to throw our Defensive Hacker onto improving the system.
>>31292541>I still want to do my suggestion of having a show and tell session with the girls, having the doc sleeve Producer to show the girls what the Harbinger system can do.Welp, put this on the schedule for next time, since everyone's hooked up already!I'd imagine jenner's.>>31294932>but all the Idols have already received nanomachine injectionsWhat about other support staff? If its cheap enough, I'd imagine everyone who wants in can get in.
>>31294932Good thing we got the defensive hacker then.We do need to do the show and tell.
>>31294932and in one fell after-the-thread- swoop, merc has just eliminated all the harbinger bitching forever.
>>31294981So you can scare the shit out of 'em?Yeah, that'll go well.
>>31295000Stop fear mongering. Read what was proposed. Its easier to train the idea into them, than just do it on the spot.>>31294932>Probably should've stated this before,No shit though. telling everone how the system works is a lot easier if, uh, they don't realize they've been tricked into it first.
>>31295009And so anon's come full circle. You haven't read anything from earlier in the thread, have you? Otherwise you'd know that the girls are NOT going to be enthused about them being muppets.
>>31295016>Otherwise you'd know that the tg are NOT going to be enthused about them being muppets.FTFY
>>31295016They'll be even more disturbed when the find out that we could have done so at any time earlier when we're at a crisis point that requires its usage.
>>31295032Right. "Not enthused," is playing down the whole "The only reason I haven't worn you like a sock puppet is because I haven't felt the need."If you think Cole has morale problems now, just wait until you tell her. What a mess that'll be.Do the smart thing, anon. harbinger is need to know, and the idols don't need to know.
>>31295016>You haven't read anything from earlier in the thread, have you?>>31295032They'll be even more disturbed when the find out that we could have done so at any time earlier when we're at a crisis point that requires its usage.Despite the PLAYERS being unaware that was an option. That feels dangerously close to IC punishment for OOC behavior. And this is why merc should have fucking TOLD US the harbinger was hooked up and ready to go.I'm pro-harbinger, but at the same time, the last thing that was said IC on the matter was 'no i'm not using it, boss, sorry'.Then again, i'm not surprised. Every time the word is uttered, tg whines and panicks and bitches for the rest of the thread, no wonder there's been absoutely zero progress on that front - ic and ooc - until now. Its only been the last 2-3 threads that people have seriously been discussing it in earnest(if you read between the shitposting lines)>>31294932>but all the Idols have already received nanomachine injections>>31295042>Right. "Not enthused," is playing down the whole "The only reason I haven't worn you like a sock puppet is because I haven't felt the need."There's a question of who actually did the injections, and whether they explained the consequences before giving the go-ahead.I'm betting the doctor did so behind the scehes when we hired them - and if we're really lucky, uh, has a really good bedside manner and explained this shit IC for us.
>>31294932Makes sense, really. The harbinger is basically a fancy router with extra functions, and we've been using it as a *regular* communications device *this entire time*
>>31295070The wetware injections are what enable communications. As far as the girls know, all it does is let them think their thoughts and use their brains like a VHF unit. The Harbinger stuff is a secret.
>>31295070I've been fully aware that Harb was hooked up.I'm not sure where you've been.
>>31295086Harbinger's PRIMARY function has always been highly secure and reliable communication. It just so happens to have a SPECIAL function that takes advantage of said highly secure and reliable communication systems to be able to direct control another person.
>>31295099>>31295108..... wait, seriously, anons that have been yelling about 'WERE NOT USING THE HARBINGER' since like, thread 3, have just been shitpostingSince, uh, we've been using it ANYWAY, despite the producer saying no?without any sort of discussion/update/posting/breaking news in the interim?I'm not saying it doesn't make sense, just that its a hell of a shoe to drop, when there's been tons of people thinking the opposite. That, and the entire opposition to actually using it has been security risk, which is invalidated because its hooked up anyway.
>>31295126No, we spoke of not using the Harbinger's special systems. The harbinger's communication suite, we've been using since day 1.
>>31295126The "no" part was to using the special function willy nilly. We never said no to using a top-of-the-line military communication system. Get with the program.
>>31295112>>31295126Kind of important.
