So, /tg/ how do I go fast in Pathfinder?
Peasant Railgun, use self instead of ladder.
Barbarian, Cleric with Travel Domain, Boots of Speed
Be a fighter, take all your normal feats with the bonus feats you get. Everything else is Fleet.
>>30888575> Buy your GM pizza + good beer.> Congrats, you've now become a Flash.FLASH! Haaaaaaaaaaaa!
I once ran a 3.0 game and one of the players was obsessed with going fast. I don't remember what he did but it was based on Monk and he was using feats from a 3rd party book but I was didn't mind because he just wanted to go fast. I think his base speed was 120ft a round or something. I don't remember any more. So, play started and first combat he ran across the map. Then missed his attack. That was pretty much the rest of the game. Once he was in melee range he just stood there ineffectually trying to flurry. All that speed and all it did was make him start failing faster.
>>30888575Monk, take some feats and some magic. You can go about 480m per turn.I'm a bit iffy since it's not really worth using.
>>30888699SAVIOR OF THE UNIVERSE
>>30888575Sonic is Basically a Nurgle follower with Boots of Haste on.Should he build up enough feet fungus and sweat and stink, the sheer stank in his shoes could gas a mirrion birrion gagillon all across galaxies.
>>30888608*MONK cleric travel domain, boots of speed.gotta put alll that useless jogging about the battlefield as a "useful" feature to work somehow.Make sure to go Monk of the Four winds and go aspect of the Tiger."Once per hour, the monk can move at 10 times his normal land speed when he makes a charge"Race: Quickling (120ft. worth the polymorph) + monk (19 levels) (+60ft base speed) + cleric travel domain (1 level) (+10 base speed) + Boots of Speed/Haste/Expeditious retreat (+30)120+60+10+30 = 220. 220*10= 2200 feet per 6 seconds = 366.6 fps = 250 mph base land speed for one charge an hour.
>>30888854Oh, and you get Pounce. With Flurrying.
>>30888854don't you have to be able to see someone to charge them? how is that even useful?
>>30888854Gotta go fast.
>>30888854>2200 feet per 6 seconds>366.6 feet per second>roughly moving at 250mphI'm pretty sure the force of just punching someone at that point would make them, and your arm, fucking explodeThe amount of friction you made just by running along the ground might set something on fire
>>30888854>>30888863make sure to go Dragon style. No problem charging through allies or rough terrain.Just you, the road, and your face slowly liquefying from the air friction.
>>30888854Oh and don't forget, you can loose 1 monk level to get Barbarian 1 for fast movment, and spend a feat into "Fleet" for 15 more ft to your base, meaning 150ft. more on that charge. After that, if there's some way to apply running to a charge, that's great as it would mean you basically break Mach 3.
>>30888948with a base speed of 2500 mph on the charge once her hour, that charge is moving upwards of Mach 4 already
>>30888948>monk>lawful>barbarian>any non-lawfulalready considered it. the only non-lawful monk is the martial artist, and then you don't get the crazy tiger charge.>>30888984might one many 0s. only 250mph.
>>30888948Holy shit. I forgot about that. Plus rage doesn't hurt...Dip TWO levels in, get the +5 move speed rage power, along with the feat. You'll drop down to +50 from the monk bonus but you make it up with the rage swiftness.Take the Extra rage Power feat for Sprint to move at another 6 times mutiple when charging. So you have (120+50+10+5+5+30) * 10 * 6 = 13200 feet. Or 2200 feet per second. Meaning 1500mph.You are legitimately clocking Twice the Speed of Sound when you charge-pounce.Your Adamantine density fists are moving at faster then the speed of a fucking .50 cal.Now we just need to calculate the legitimate force behind this punch.
>>30889016Monks don't lose abilities when they change from lawful to non-lawful they just can't gain anymore levels.
>>30889016First/Second level Barbarian.Third Level Neutral Cleric of a Lawful godFourth level become Lawful as you progress into being a monk. You don't lose barbarian powers for becoming Lawful. So if you progress from Neutral to Lawful, then you're golden.
>>30889047>>30889039Fuck, nevermind had it backwards. The Barbarian levels come as the last two then.Go from Lawful to Neutral at level 19
>>30889024So, to recap. You're a 2.5ft, 15lb Fey creature that's invisible when you're still, have evasion and 20% concealment when you're moving. You're a cleric of travel, you've got a barbaric temper, and you trained in the style of xaoilin mysticism until you became part kitty. And you now run at twice the speed of sound. And pounce things with your claws. This went from a study in ludicrousness to somewhat terrifying. This thing was scary to begin with, especially for CR3. now...
>>30889086It's like if weeping angels were invisible and could snipe you from 1 and a half thousand miles away.not to mention quicklings are fairly vicious and bloodthristy to start with. they have an attitude roughly in the same ballpark as a Dalek, but just a bit more mischievous. toying with their prey first, just to watch it squirm.yes sir, downright horrifying, this monstrosity we've just created. In other news, have we calculated how this would affect jump checks?
But what's the point? Running fast is cool but I'm pretty sure Greater Teleport to anywhere on the plane instantly is still effectively faster.
>>30889086>>30889024Not to mention, even though I fully recognize real world physics does not apply to damage in Pathfinder.I just did the math, and you're punching 7 times with approximately 23.7 Gigajoules.Meaning that in a flurry, you are emitting enough force to equate half of the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki, concentrated into the surface area of a plum.
>>30889016No, use your headwith 2200 ft per round base speed you're moving at 250 MPH anyways. At all times. That is your speed. When you multiply that by 10 for the charge, you are moving at 2500MPH, you just so happen to be able to move 250 Miles on that chargeYou are hitting things upwards of MACH 4
>>30889024A charge pounce would be at 15000 mph if its multiplied by 10You're move WAY faster than mach 2
>>30888854Aren't monk bonuses to speed enhancement bonuses?
>>30889116With a Single Rank in Mythic Champion if I recall, you can basically use your charge as a Jump check, and then apply your falling damage into the enemy.Meaning that, If I'm remembering and thinking though this correctly, you can deal 6600d6 damage to them. 11 times more powerful then a entire flip-book of explosive runes, which takes about a month to prepared, except you can do this once every hour.Gods forbid the ability at the 6th mythic tier that would allow you to deliver this attack from Half your acrobatics check away in miles.
>>30888738Speed + Mobile Fighter(Rapid Attack) + Whirlwind Attack = Death Tornado
>>30889170>>30889165No no, that's with the 10x speed included already.
>>30889196>6600d6 damagePffthaahhahaThats easily upwards of 20000 thousand damage
>>30889203Get your own gimmick.
>>30889165stop skimming my math. The base land speed total was 220.your charge speed is 10 times your base speed.220 * 10 = 2200.2200 is then your charge speed, in feet per round.because feet per 6 seconds is nowhere an equivalent ratio to miles per hour, simple common sense shows us then that 2200 fpr is not equal to 2500 mph.go to bed.
>>30889236yup. This is why i shouldn't do math at 4am.
>>30889226Whoops.I forgot to say... That's Per attack.46200d6.That's a 46200 damage minimum provided you hit with all of your attacks. Which won't be hard if you use a weapon, since this is independent of unarmed damage.
>>30888575>So the storyline begins with...>...you find yourself in combat with some low level minions the BBEG let loose because you arent worth his time >The BBEG begins t-I charge him.>ok so you char the nearest min-No.I charge the BBEG.>You can't just charge him, he's like 400ft away.Read my character sheet, charge and buffs stacked should do 12k minimum damage.>Several minutes of reading later >Fuck you dave.
>>30888575Welp Ladies and Gents. From what originally started as a "Gotta Go Fast" Sanic thread, this developed into turning the Monk into an almost literal nuclear bomb.Someone needs to archive this.If we can hammer out the specifics, this better damn well make it on 1d4chan.
>>30889358>>30889335What should we call this?
>>30889358Nuclear Bomb Monk, from the makers of the Peasant Railgun. For external use only.
What the flying fuck just happened?
>>30889376The PZO-148 Javelin Monk-sile System.Because the way you work is by means of Charging straight fucking upwards into the air 660ft., and then curving downwards at the dude for the bullshit flurry damage.Even if there is an iffy situation with the way the Acrobatics charge works, you can always just get a Wand of Air Walk to guarantee it.
>>30889376Massively Overpowered Nanosecond Killer
>>30889432/tg/ happened.>>30889440>*upwards into the air 6600ft.
>>30889440>Javelin Monk-sile SystemHA!
>>308892362200x10 (6 seconds/roundx10= 1minute.) = 22000X60(minutes) = 1320000 feet/hour. 1320000/5280 (how many feet are in a mile)= 250.
>>30889440Don't even need the wand.>http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items/wondrous-items/r-z/sandals-of-the-lightest-stepIt limits you to five times a day, but at least it's not limited by charges, and only lasts a single round so your DM can't judge you as not falling.Javelin Monk-sile System Online.
> anon asks how to make a fast character> /tg/ turns him into a Javelin missile that walks like a man
>>30889676Do you think this is a motherfucking game?
Next problem with our missile:A Guidance System. How do we make sure that the monk lands a hit?
This is a good thread.I thought /tg/ had changed. But it hasn't.Good stuff.
>>30890787some sort of at-will object of True Strike?
>>30889329Don't forget to use the spell "blink" to phase through anything that could stop you. And since you're half way into the Etheral plane, you don't have to worry about air friction/getting blown up by the backlash
>>30889196>falling damageMaximum 20d6. You need a way to get more out of this first.
>>30889196>>30889226>>30889329Falling Damage caps at 20d6. So it'd be 20d6 per attack.
>>30892425but would it count as one attack/fall?
>>30892509We still pouncing I think. With the monk18/barb2 its...4 attacks? 5 with haste? its a nice gimmick, but it requires mythic.
>>30889192they are, this guy probably gets all his shit from nwn1 or something.
>>30889236you can move up to twice your speed in a charge you fucking idiot.
This took so much longer than it should've for so little effort. You might have more luck making something more presentable from scratch but if not here's thisSorry for being too tired, I tried. Sleep now.
>>30892936Hope it's at least funny
>>30892936you wasted your time, all this math is based on fake shit.
Aegis level 20, max out Flight and Fly speed, get extra customizations [5 of them] and use Favored Class to get 5 more for a total number of customization points of 36. Thats 2 on Flight and 34 on the 20' speed bonuses, and get the Run feat and be in the skin form. Thats a speed of 30+[34x20]=710x4 running=323 MPH.Get a wand of prismatic ray or color spray, fly backwards while yelling you're 20 levels cooler than other characters.
>>30888575>20th level monk>Cloud Step feat before errata'd>"You could move half your slow fall distance in one turn, as long as you end in a surface"Slow fall at 20th level is infinite.Move half infinite.
>>30893087Errata's to max 50 feet.
>>30893122That's why I said "Before errata'd"
>>30893122>Monks can't have nice things.
In 3.5 was easy.>Duskling monk>Spend all essence in speed>Haste boots>Other minor stuffYou could easily reach Speed 500ft without much effort
Is there a way to do something useful with all this speed without mythic?
>>30893396Nope, in fact, if you don't have run feat, you lose your dex and are an easy target when you run even though you're travelling at the speed of light.
>>30893446So, run is a good feat to take, then?
>>30893576Run allows you to, as a full round action, move 5 times your speed instead of the normal 4, and retain your Dex while doing it.I wouldn't say is a good feat, not even meh. Most of the time is utterly useless.
I am extremely interested in this, but I'm not sure I understand the mechanics behind it. Could somebody give me a somewhat simple explanation as to how exactly this works?
>>30898441About what the Javelin Monk-sile System? You basically get a hold of Air-walk, boost your speed as much as possible, and if you have a Mythic rank, you can "Charge" directly up 6600ft into the air, then come down straight on top of them for seven attacks with 6600d6 bonus damage each, since you deal you fall damage into your enemy with your attacks.
>>30899426Wait, how do you not die from fall damage?
>>30892919>>30889192>>30889024x10 move speed supersedes/replaces the x2 I believe.also, having looked up Sprint, it's only x3 on a charge, x6 if "run"ning.Okay, revised:120+50+10+5+5 = 190 190* 3(sprint)*10(MotFW: Tiger) = 57005700 fpr /6= 950fps = 647.727 mph.About 1/3 the 1500 we assumed before.the 20d6 fall damage cap is still long hit though.
>>30899807About 100 under Mach 1.Still don't want it coming near my face.
>>30889140You did the math very, very badly.Using the speed of 13,200 feet/round, one gets an energy density of 0.0531 kg TNT/kg of mass (so multiply that figure by however much mass you're hitting with).2200 feet/s * 1 mile/5280 feet * 1600 m/mile = 666.7 m/sKE = 1/2 mv^2 = 1/2 * m * (666.7 m/s)^2 = 222,222 m^2/s^2 * m = 222,222 J/kg * mThat m is mass, in kilograms, presumably of the fist.222,222.2 J/kg * m * 1 kg TNT/4.184e6 J = 0.0531 kg TNT/kgI'm not familiar enough with Pathfinder rules to know which speed is valid, but if >>30899807 is correct, it should be even less: 0.00990 kg TNT/kg.Don't get me wrong, this is a scary energy density to be punching people with, but it's hardly nuclear in scale, not unless you have an enormous amount of mass behind that velocity.
>>30901406We can probably assume 60kg for the sake of example
>>30901750That would be a bodyslam, not a punch: still only in the realm of a few kilograms (< 10 pounds) of TNT. Any ordinary human would shortly become an ex-human, but this is still in the realm of a satchel charge or artillery shell.Another way to think about this: 2,200 fps is in the realm of bullet muzzle velocities: by comparison, the M16 has 3,110 fps muzzle velocity, and the M1911 825 fps.So, these are bullet punches/bodyslams: impressive, but decidedly non-nuclear unless your monk weighs about as much as an Iowa-class battleship (~2.4 kilotons TNT for that).
>>30901908We can just have the monk carry around a bag of holding that contains a 1500lb block of steel formed into a javelin, and then have him turn it inside out or just pierce it with something as he reaches his maximum speed. End result would be a half-ton steel javelin travelling at the speed of a bullet, which is highly likely to fuck up whatever it hits.
>>30902816What a poor plan. Why have a 1500 pound block of steel when you can have a 1500 pound armor piercing shell? They'd be hard to find, but the shells from a US 14"/50 caliber battleship gun would just about fit the bill, at 1400 lbs. weight.
Am I wrong in thinking that it should always have been possible to punch faster than the speed of sound at higher levels (like lvl 20)?
>>30903135Yeah, but since we're not using a chemical reaction to achieve such high projectile speeds, there's no need for things like casing. You can literally get a 1500 lbs cabar, form the tip into a point, and launch it directly at the enemy. No casing, no gunpowder, no mess.
>>30889376If I may, I'm a bit late to this, but I have a proposal.Since this is a character who could run up 10 feet and jump across a decently-sized oceanSince this is a character who moves so fast that his one-hit punching a deity's head off wouldn't even be audible for, what, a dozen seconds? And most of all, since this being is small and a terrible troll, he can only be called one thing:NYOOOOOOOOOOOOOMAnd whenever he runs, he has to do airplane arms. And shout his name as a battle-cry. This will be doubly funny when he jumps because it'll look like he's become a plane purely by the power of his dreams.
>>30903416A, I like battleships.B, that 1500 lb. block of cabar* would only be able to double for an HE shell: boomy, but not much armor penetration. Put explosives into a shell, and you can get AP, HEAT, fragmentation, AA, paint, something to serve just about any desired role. There's a reason the Iowa's Mark 8 shell was only 1.5% high explosive by weight.*Not sure what cabar is: presumably it's some flavor of explosive?
Heres the fastest I've gotten.Play a ranger with the hippogriff rider archetype, additionally give your hippogriff the racer archetype. This will result in a hippogriff that flys at a 110 movement rate and can sprint 1/hour, which will multiply this movement by 10. For good measure we'll toss on a haste increasing its fly to 140, or 1400 for one round. So with the run feat the hippogriff can move 7000 feet in one round or 6 seconds, which roughly translates to 795 mph. The speed of sound is 767 mph, so feel free to ask your GM what a sonic boom does.
>>30903416Silly me, going on about AP shells and such.We can still get to nuclear yields. All we need is a nuke. Assuming ideal ballistics (no air resistance, etc), the 5700 fpr speed (>>30899807), and a 30 degree launch angle, one can get a range of 24.2 km (15.1 miles) and a 29 second flight time, which leaves a comfortable margin of error for not being hoist by one's own petard in spectacular fashion.
>>30899807Since some posts have already mentioned mythic, what would a 10th tier mythic character add?Champion gets Impossible Speed. +30' base land speed, and another +100' for 1 hour for 1 use of mythic power. We get five bonus mythic feats. If we sink 5 regular feats into Fleet, we can sink all five of these into Mythic Fleet. I think that's a total of 50' as well, between the mythic and non-mythic versions. (Yes...there's a Mythic! Fleet.)So an extra 180' to base land speed--we've basically doubled our speed before charge/sprint/etc., right?
>>30901406>not unless you have an enormous amount of mass behind that velocityAdamantine fists/Iron body
>>30904613Iron Body makes us 10x as heavy. It also says "your speed is reduced to half normal."
>>30904613>>30904702Haven't we been talking about using a Quickling chasis?"Quicklings stand just over 2-1/2 feet tall and weigh 15 pounds."There's a lot of catching up to do just to get to human levels of weight.
>>30889459>/tg/ happenedConveniently ignoring whatever rules make the concept not work.Like the 20d6 fall damage cap.Or the fact that, as pounce is a special action, you can't Flurry of Blows with it.Or the way that D&D multipliers stack (*3 and *10 making *13, not *30, though PF may have changed that).
>>30911055Yeah, like he said, /tg/ happened.sometimes, the amount of ignoring of the way things actually work to make an idea happen is borderline Paizo-tier.
