Welcome to Academy City. The time is 0233, the weather is breezy and the date is August 2.You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you have just been woken up in the middle of the night. Your phone displays an unreasonable hour to be awake but it couldn’t be helped given that you felt colder than you should. It was only your window being open. You were pretty sure you closed them last night so you get up and out of bed. Once you were done, you turn around and are greeted by an intruder sitting at your table. He gives you a wave.“Hey,” he greets, “For a thief’s house it sure was easy to break in. Then again you are just a kid.”A flick of the switch and your room’s lights illuminates the figure in full. He’s also holding your gun. The mag has been ejected and the slide exposed an empty barrel.“You really should keep this in a better place, the underwear drawer was the first place I looked,” he noticed your gaze, “Oh and you may call me Toulour, I represent THIEF.”Your annoyance is conveyed with the proper furrowing of your brows.“Did I come at a bad time? We can totally do this later you know?”>Ask him to come back later>Get some tea ready
>Think: "Ah man, my balls hurt. Must've been twisted during sleep."
The rules are pic related. For more information see: http://padlet.com/wall/acsquareq

>>30873591>>Get some tea ready
>>30873591>Get some tea ready
Sighing inwardly you simply set the kettle on the stove so at least you’ll have something to get you through this interruption of your sleep.“Hello,” Toulour tries again.“I'm already awake, and you're here. Might as well get this over with,” you reply as you look for tea.“Right then I’ll make it quick. We at THIEF welcome you as an Independent Associate. As someone of your station, you have access to our information networks for a price. The only thing we ask in return is that you register your future heists with me so that we don’t have a conflict of interest. Hell we may be able to find people interested in helping you. I will be your primary contact for THIEF. Here is my number.”He places a card on the table as you serve him and yourself some tea.“Thank you,” he replies and eagerly takes a sip, “Not bad. Anyway, don’t lose that number. It’s the only way you’ll be able to contact me as an Associate of THIEF. Once you do call that number we’ll arrange a meet and the number will expire. Though it really doesn’t need to be said, please do not go to the authorities to report us. All you do is waste everyone’s time and end up on the blacklist. Anyway that’s about all I have to say, any questions or should I let you get back to your sleep?”>Do you have any questions about THIEF? (Write-in, I’ll try and fit as many questions as reasonable)
>>30873591>>Get some tea readyI just want to say, I am not really a thief, mostly an organizer.
>>30874171"So what drops into the category of conflict of interest for THIEF?"
>>30874171Just to make sure, THIEF does not consist of just yourself....right?
>>30874171"Am I required to do contracts for you?"
>>30874171>that picIf he's 1/10 of Shirou then I fear him.
>>30874171any membership dues? Perks? Benefits?
>>30874171How was i selected for membership?
Well you start with the most obvious one.“THIEF, really?”“Believe me it could be worse,” he answers calmly, “we could be named ITEM or GROUP or something similarly stupid. We take pride in what we are and what we do.”“Just to be sure, when you say we, you mean there’s more than just you who’s part of THIEF right?”“Naturally, THIEF is a network of professionals who find it in their contracts to acquire things that many find difficult. I am merely one of the dozen or so coordinators that ensure our vast network is resilient and reliable as can be.”“So what about conflicts of interest and do I have to do contracts for you?”“Like I said, you are an Independent Associate,” Toulour nudges his glasses up a bit, “As long as you notify us of a potential target we will ensure another associate does as little to interfere as possible. Your last job at Kaiou University, sloppy and badly planned as it was, nearly ruined another member. We try to make sure such things happen as rarely as possible but not even we can track everyone. As for contracts you don’t have to worry about that unless you wish for membership and that’s probably not going to be considered until the whole Big Spider issue is dealt with.”He doesn’t mention by whom.“Anyways that’s enough of me taking up your night,” he gulps down the tea and makes for the window, “By the way, you should talk to Konori Mii. She might know Big Spider. It's a freebie. If you have questions just call, tomorrow.”[1/2]
>>30874957The time is now past sunrise, the weather is fine and the date remains unchanged.Unexpected night crawler aside, you peacefully went back to sleep. You realise that you only had his word to go by but he did just break in to your room without you noticing. Still by the time the proper morning has come, you’ve gone through your usual routine. Kaoru sent you a message to confirm the time her vampire hunter was going to arrive, which was this evening at around 2030 and you had the day ahead of you.>Get some reading done>Get some work hours in>Get in to contact with Konori Mii>Something else? Brewing more tea and making some oh so delicious French toast, you setting in for a slow morning. Heck, even the birds are landing on your balcony railings for no real reason and breaking in to song. With your posture set to comfortable you continue to make your way through Minds, Memories and Multi-tasking. A lot more detail is spent on certain stimuli that humans receive, especially reflexive actions what they actually mean. You get a nice two hours of reading done before your phone ringing interrupts. It’s Asuka.“Good morning Kyril,” she greets without preamble, “My schedule has somehow managed to free itself of further obligations today. I am thinking we could have lunch together to discuss important matters.”You’re not sure you have a choice to refuse.“And we do not then I am thinking we could at least talk about it, lest I let The Dean do most of the talking when next meet.”“Yeah sure,” you agree hastily.“Splendid, while I am not averse to you whisking me away I must admit that my underclassmen and the like are notorious gossips. The attention is nice but it does become tiring after a fashion. Do not concern yourself with the food for I shall be bringing some with me.”Where shall you have lunch with Asuka?>Pick her up for a picnic>Invite her to your place

Rolled 2A tie huh?1. Picnic2. Your place
Rolled 1You decide on a change of pace. Most of your dates, as you recall, have taken place mostly outside so it’d be nice to stay indoors for once. There was no way you’d be able to enjoy her company in her room given the fearsome beast that guarded her dormitories so you settle inviting her over. You do your best to tidy up the place before she arrives. The time is now lunch, the weather is clean and the date remains the same.Asuka arrives with a small basket of edibles, along with The Dean and Jyggalag. You’re not sure how you remembered the black rabbit plushie’s name so vividly. You do however remember that she takes tea on its own. Her spread is consists of some sandwiches, lamenting on how there is little way for her to prepare rice or more complicated heated dishes without gaining access the kitchens proper. Your offer to let her borrow yours is met with a grand smile.“So tell me Kyril, I recall a heartfelt confession before you engaged in battle a few days ago, about our dear friend Tamezou.”“Oh that?” you remember it vaguely, “Well he didn’t have very nice things to say about you so I broke his jaw.”“An expedient solution to defend my honour,” she was clearly amused, “I take it he is part of a bigger problem.”“Yeah, but I do have a lead. Konori Mii, heard of her?”“Yes, but I’m afraid we’re going to have to see Shirai for more information on her superior.”Wait she was Judgement? You didn’t actually need to see Shirai then.>Contact Kaoru>Go see Shirai
>>30876717>Contact Kaorushe owes anyway
>>30876717>Go see ShiraiNothing like annoying her to round off the evening.
>>30876717>Go see ShiraiShe's always a fun one to be around.
“Well if Konori Mii is part of Judgement then I know someone that could help us out that is not Shirai,” you say.“As much fun as it is to rile her up with blatant displays of heterosexuality I think our flirting would be counterproductive to our objective.”Right. You dial up Kaoru.“Hey Kaoru, do you mind if I ask you about Judgement?”Asuka eyes you suspiciously.“I suppose I can indulge you this once,” Kaoru seems strangely satisfied by her voice.“I was wondering if you knew of a Konori Mii?” you ask, “I’m looking to talk to her and I heard she was with Judgement.”“Ah yes, while I do not directly report to her she is the senior officer at my branch, we will be in the office for a while yet if you wish to drop by for a chat.”“Great, thanks.”Hanging up only makes Asuka gaze more intense.“Kaoru is a female name,” she says, “Is she someone I should know?”“If you don’t want to deal with Shirai.”“I wonder how exactly you came to know her,” she continues, “Not that I am explicitly against your acquaintance with her or anything. I am simply curious.”She doesn’t look curious. What answer shall you give The Dictator?>Kaoru almost arrested you once>Kaoru rescued you from a kidnapper once>Kaoru did something else (write-in)

You tell of your first encounter with her, and Shirai. It placated her somewhat to know where Aneue kept her booze.“I see, well then, daylight is burning so we should make due haste to interrogate this Konori Mii,” Asuka gets up, “I shall be leaving the basket with you so that you may arrange for a suitable picnic in the future. Be grateful.”You have the slightest feeling she hasn’t completely cleared her foul mood. Partway through the silent walk to Judgement Branch Office 177, Asuka speaks up again.“Before we arrive I wish to know how you are going to conduct this interrogation,” she starts, “Or should I be the one to do the information gathering? She is Judgement and she will have a bit of a backbone, most of them do. It is not necessary for us to break her but it is the most expedient. This is assuming that we could even get her alone. I suspect the other one would have to run interference.”Leave it to her to consider practicalities while you were wondering if she felt better now. Well you could handle Kaoru for sure. You had topic to distract her with and all though you’re not sure you want Asuka to just walk all over your information source. She was just as likely to pick a fight with Kaoru you think.>Talk with Konori Mii>Distract Kaoru

>>30878652>Inform Asuka of MAGICNOPE.Warn her that her command power might not work on Kar and she probably shouldn't use it but don't just throw our Karou's secret like that.
You were the one who asked for her so you really should be the person who talked to her. That and you trusted that Asuka to not engage Kaoru in a duel to the death with live blades. You of course tell her so and are rewarded with a complicated expression. You hoped that there wouldn’t be that many people there and to your knowledge, Branch Office 177 was all females. Definitely would not like to play up the image of getting in trouble just to attract their beautiful attention. Of all the ones you knew in person, none of them actually your type. Or it could be your bias showing seeing as you already had Asuka.Regardless there were only Kaoru and Konori Mii there. The former was helping the latter square away some paper work given the latter had been out of the office for a few days. At your arrival, Asuka zeroes in on the diminutive Sikh whilst you and Konori decide to borrow an office. To do your interrogation in.“So, Torikov-san, I believe you wished to talk to me?”How do you approach this interrogation?>Be blunt>Try subtletyWrite-ins may or may not affect the chance of success or failure
>>30879340Ok. She still has emotional ties to at least the leader of Big Spider, so how about we go for subtle?

>>30879552 There's no "sort of" in that anon
>>30879591Well, THIEF guy did tell us she might know BS. She's a member of Judgement and has info on a gang that she has not shared with her law enforcement peers, as shown by THIEF guy specifically naming her. This shows a personal connection, which is a conclusion which could be reached without meta knowledge.I say "sorta" because I personally probably wouldn't have made that connection without the meta knowledge.
>>30879340I've been targeted by Big Spider and I was told by a friend that you might be of some help

>>30879649She's a law enforcement agent who has information about a criminal organization. Everything else you've said, implied personal connection, the not sharing with info with her peers are things Kyril has no clue about and are derrived from your meta knowledge. You wouldn't have put it together without being meta because the information just wasn't there.
>>30879792The fact that she hasn't shared it with her peers is shown by the fact that we were told to talk to her specifically. Not anyone in her office, her.
>>30879340>middle of the road"I've been having a problem with spiders, and I hear you may be a good person to ask."
>>30879849That's a ridiculous leap in logic. There could be any reason that they referred us to her. She could just be the one in the best position to help us. She could have little oversight, or the the local BS gang expert. He'll she could have been a THIEF memberTHIEF telling us about her only means that they somehow know she'd be useful on some way.
You recall your early morning with Toulour. It was true that there was nothing to go on but his words but if his advice was correct you’re thinking that maybe you can put a little stock in his words next time you meet.“I’ve been targeted by Big Spider and I’ve been told by a friend that you might be able to help.”“A friend huh?” she scrutinises you, “Whatever. The Big Spider I know would not have targeted anyone in the first place.”“Things change.”“That they do,” she retrieves a pen and a pad, “I’ve narrowed down some old haunts. Maybe you’ll have some luck before the big guns get pulled in.”She had drawn a crude map outline three locations within The Strange, a small part of School District 10. Scrawled in a corner is a date, Aug 4, which you presume is the deadline for your personal investigation.“Thank you.”“You probably won’t be thanking me if you plan on going after them,” she replies.Coming out with the office, you find that the office is still in a good semblance of order. Nobody has tried to kill anyone yet. Kaoru and Asuka were merrily chatting away over a book. As soon as they notice you stepping out they abruptly cease conversation. Kaoru takes the book and stuffs it in her shirt.“Kaoru are you using books as body armour again?” Konori asks.“Kyril are there any hobbies you would like to tell me about?” Asuka asks.Episode 19 End. You are the Index Librorum Prohibitorum. It has been a day or two since you have been freed from a cycle of yearly mind wipes. To be honest you feel great, albeit hungry. Your roommate, boorish oaf that he is, has left you some food and departed to further his education in the secular domain. It was then of no surprise that you had finished it off as your quatre-heures and are missing the vital component of dinner, that being food.Against your better judgement you had come to the home, or dare you say, lair, of a Sikh magician, seeking sustenance. As all Sikhs are, she has agreed to make an extra portion for you until your roommate returns, heretical unbeliever that he is. Whilst waiting for your host to prepare a meal you espy two books sitting on the table. One is a thick hardback with plenty of gold gilding along its black cover. The other is a small picture book. Reading has always been your hobby. It was why you had been entrusted with 103,000 grimoires, books of forbidden magical lore.Read which book?>The big, thick and hard one>The picture book

Well you were in the mood for some light reading. It had to be fast because you know it is rude to read during dinner. That and it would get in the way of eating. Picking it up, you flip to the first page though it doesn’t look quite right. It is true that you are familiar with picture books arrayed in to panels but these ones seem out of order. You see a pair of males in bed snuggling but otherwise you’re not sure how this came about. It’s when you turn a few more pages does- JESUS CHRIST OH LORD ALMIGHTY WHAT MATTER OF SODOMY IS THIS?You drop it from your fingers, fumbling quickly to return the book to its original resting place as you’ve remembered. It is unfortunate that you were unable to forget the contents of the book you have just read. Maybe if you over wrote it with the contents of the other book. Picking up the tome, just reading the title sets off alarm bells. It was called the Kama Sutra and you were sure this was somehow related to magic of some kind.Oh how wrong you were.>Press on and attempt to learn “magic” from this book>No, you’d prefer Sodomy in reverse to this black magiccaptcha: primal helpProdWell now

You press on. Knowledge is power and your name wasn’t Dedicatus545 for no reason. If this was a grimoire that you had yet to seal within your memory then it was all the more important. You flip through the pages, scanning as fast as your eyes could allow. You try and dedicate as little brainpower to deciphering what you’ve seen as much as possible. It is not until the last few chapters do you stumble upon something worthy of a magician. Except MANA TRANSFER DID NOT WORK THAT WAY!You finish as Jaswinder Kaur come out with plates of and bowls of what you think is Indian curry. The Sikh minds it little as you say grace as quick as you can and dig in. You could have done with less spice but you suppose it is simply your western tongue at work here. Jaswinder makes small talk with you, suspiciously also not caring that you’ve read her books. In fact she finds your actions admirable. She offers to teach you how to read the picture book.>Learn to read the picture book>No you’ll figure it out yourself, in private

With a mischievous smile the Sikh seats herself next to you, opening the book at the back. She explains that much of Japanese print media is reversed due to the direction of their text. It is much like Arabic in that regard. Her arms close around you as her lips approach your ear.“Now my dear Index,” she whispers, “You must understand the concept of love.”Her grip tightens.Interlewd end.
