Sorry about the super late start, everyone, but dinner went way longer than planned! Anyways, I'll run this as long as I can, though I'll probably run another thread on Tuesday to make up for it.

You are the PRODUCER, a former soldier hired to manage a group of teenage girls on their rise to stardom, assuming they don't get killed in the process!

Currently, you're on the Tonight Show with Rin, who is busy being interviewed by the host. She's now responding to a question regarding the other idols of your company.

"Well, they all do have their quirks." Rin smiles. "Rochelle is into the weirdest things, like retro games and movies, Julie could have very well been a police officer if she wanted to, and Cole may seem like a nasty, mean girl but she's actually super sweet inside! You should've seen her face when she had ice cream for the first time!"

"Whoa, wait, you mean to tell me she's only had ice cream just recently?" Falon leans forward in surprise.

"I know, right? I was surprised too!"

"We're talking about the same Cole here that beat up an entire football team almost singlehandedly?"

"The same!" Rin giggles.

"Well, the more you know!" Falon chuckles. "And oh, look at the time! Next up, we'll see all the girls from Clover Entertainment when they perform!"

"All right, commercial break!" One of the stagehands yells and a timer starts up. "Three minutes!"

Falon's holographic image then winks out as stage hands rush forward to set up the small stage. You see your idols safe and sound take position at the rear while Rin moves up front and center. Meanwhile you can see DeRosa among the audience glowering at you.

What a dickbutt.

"Thirty seconds!"

We should really get a large bulletin board for central area of the office so we can post pictures from the very beginning leading all the way to the present day. We could have photos of our roster, things that the staff or the girls did on and off-screen (i.e. training, hanging out), magazine clippings, staff parties (hopefully something humorous), etc.

If this were the ending to a show, most of the pictures would be static while the some would be animated to show brief, but important events such as: Producer entering Delta City for the first time, meeting the girls, combat missions, performances, meeting new cast members, or dramatic moments; while the camera would pan from the oldest to the most recent photos as a recap of what happened in the Quest, and as slow piano music would play in the background.

Well, you suppose you should be flattered that you now have your own rival of sorts. However, you feel that he wouldn't try anything on national television, so you opt to stay backstage to observe your girls.

"Okay, we're recording in three... two... one!"

Falon's hologram rematerializes and he plasters on a fake smile.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Clover Entertainment!"

You can't help but grin at the lyrics "No Brand Girls". It was actually kind of fitting, considering your current situation. You had to give David some props for that.

WHAT THE HELL ARMCHAIR!? I just caught up with VMQ quests 1 & 2, and realized that you could have unknowingly saved us a lot of trouble avoiding that waifu shitstorm if you had Lucas swear fealty to Morgan during that grad trip early on in the quest instead of omitting it. And, something happens. You can't quite seem to describe it, but Rin really seemed to be in the zone today. Her movements were fluid and natural, her voice hit every note perfectly, and she seemed to have this serene look on her face that seemed to show that what she was doing was perfectly natural to her. Near the end of the song, she does a spin that causes both her hair and her skirt to flutter in the air, captivating you and the audience even further.

By the time the performance was over, everybody almost seemed to forget that they were recording a TV show. The stage directly blinks for a few seconds before realizing what happened and reactivates Falon. The holographic host winks back into existence and he starts clapping his hands.

"And that was a wonderful performance! Clover Entertainment, everybody!"

>Rin gains +1 Appeal!

With that, everybody is ushered off stage again. The stage director thanks you, and hands you your check.

You and Rin make your way to the parking lot, where your van is waiting. You see Rochelle, Julie, Cole, and Jenner there as well.

"I know! She seemed like an entirely different person!" Julie grins.

"That's so awesome!" Rochelle laughs. "Aw man, I have to see if my parents were watching, too!"

Lets say we'll need to speak with the boss first so that we can see what other offers from other firms come our way.

This is a chance to turn an enemy into a rival, or at least sign a non-aggression pact.

The smart play is to see what he has to say.

"Hmmm, a smart move." DeRosa chuckles. "The arrangement is simple, really. First, your company will stay out of District 2. In return, I will promise not to engage in any hostile actions against your company.."

"There needs to be more consideration than that." You say.

"I'm getting there. There's another idol company, Zenith, that's also trying to edge into District 2. If something were to happen that would cause them to suspend their operations in District 2 indefinitely, well, that would be a huge boon for the both of us. I have one less competitor to worry about, and my company will owe a favor to yours. And I must say, my combat idols are VERY skilled."

"Huh..."

We don't have to kill them--we just have to--and I'm paraphrasing here--take them out of the game permanently. While straight-up killing is good, unless we had the right tools--like, I don't know, a massive railgun that could launch HE shells from 4 miles away at hitscan speeds--is incredibly finicky and very complicated if you want to do it clean and you want to do it right.

We just need to arrange for a few...accidents to occur. Whether that be a broken leg during practicing a routine or a careless forklift driver smashing someone's kneecap or hot grease splashing on someone's body is up in the air. With our background, I'm sure we can get pretty creative in engineering a few...accidents.

"I'd want to see your idols in action. My counter offer is a teamup - "
(remind me - did he say something about not being able to act overtly against zenith?)

Keep in mind that he has excellent combat idols, and using this favor to secure OUR district from rival companies - whom we have JUST earned the attention of - is gonna be crucial to avoiding getting our shit stomped in.

Clover has survived by being under the radar - and having an on-call favor to defend our territory is gonna let us keep up that off-the-road charm.

We don't actually have to kill them, tho. He just wants zenith's operations suspended in district 2 - when attacking a company, its about damaging assets and timetables and monetary budgets.

We wouldn't have to kill anyone - and that may make us a giant target for retribution anyway -

but doing something simple like pulling the firealarm in their building, then leveling it with the railgun may do the trick.
we're in D2 anyway, so this is kind of a threat to US also.

"Sorry, but I'm afraid I can't accept. At least right now." You shrug. "It's something that I'd have to pass by my boss."

"My my, I never took you to be so spineless, Producer." DeRosa chuckles. "Men like us are hired for the sole reason of making judgement calls. Otherwise, what's the point? Bah, I'm not even interested anymore. Perhaps we'll see each other again, or maybe not."

DeRosa then gives a mirthful smile and wave before disappearing down the stairwell. You were half expecting to get ambushed, but nothing happened. You guess there was a least some honor between producers.

"So what happened?" Jenner asks once you return to the van.

"Nothing really." You sigh. "Just another idol company trying to put their feelers into us."

"Ah, I see." Jenner nods. "Rose Entertainment?"

"How do you know?"

"DeRosa is one of the more memorable figures in the business." Jenner shrugs. "I'll tell you about it if we have the time."

With that, the drive back to the office is a rather uneventful one. You make a few calls ahead to a few late night restaurants that are willing to deliver. You suspect the girls were going to go through a LOT of food tonight.

"So, you think we can hire some extra staff?"

"Possibly. Maybe even another idol." Jenner nods. "I'll get the details sorted out once we get back to the office."

No sooner than she says that when the van pulls into the parking garage. The girls immediately pile out and rush upstairs, kidnapping a surprised Falynn along the way. Jenner makes her way to your office, presumably to take care of the work. Meanwhile, you see that the light to Lillith's office was still on. "Of course. I sort of consider them all to be my surrogate daughters, after all." You grin.

"Ah, not surprising, from a man with no family of his own."

"Are you trying to analyze me?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Oh, no, just an observation." Lilith shakes her head and blushes a bit. "Truth be told, I'm actually quite jealous. I wish I had a producer as nice as you back when I was an idol. Maybe things would have turned out differently."

"Maybe." You nod.

"Anyways, I should be going." Lillith gets up and starts packing up her things. "I'll see you tomorrow, Producer."

And just like that, Lillith exits her office, leaving you alone once again.

You decide to return to your office to check on Jenner. After all, you had some work to do organizing your company's future affairs. A producer's job was never over.

"Ah, Producer, just in time." Jenner says, handing you a phone. "We just received call just now. A potential sponsor, I believe."

"Already?" You blink.

"With the kind of performance Rin just gave, are you really surprised?"

"I guess not." You sigh as you put the phone to your ear. "Hello?"

"HEY! Is this that Producer I've been hearing so much about?!?" You hear a very hyper and cheerful voice burst through your ear.

"Um, yes, I'm the Producer." You wince.

"Great! My name's Jack, CEO of Hyperion Corporation. You know, I've been thinking of ways to improve my company's image, and lo and behold, when I turn on the TV, I see your idols, and then it came to me! Now, I just LOVED that song, 'No Brand Girls', so how would you like to have an actual brand?!"

"Um, what?"

"SPONSORSHIPS, MAN! SPONSORSHIPS! I'm offering to sponsor your company!"

"Well, that's mighty nice." You blink. "But... what exactly does your corporation do again?"

"Holy shit, you don't know? Well, Hyperion is one of the most profitable mining companies in the world!"

"Ah...." You nod. "And what exactly are you offering?"

"Well, I was thinking that whatever job you get paid for, we'll add another $2000 to whatever you're being paid. And, to show my good faith, I'll even throw in another $5000 as a thank you for signing on! What do you say?"

Basically try to work it out, but we reserve the right to refuse anything that might go against what's best for the girls and aren't exclusive unless he wants to shell out a hell of a lot more. Also work, put in that our price goes up as our popularity does. Pretty basic stuff.

"Ha! Just call me Jack! Technically, it would be Mr. Jack, since I legally changed my first name to Handsome! Heheheh, but I'm sure the story about that would bore you to death! Anyways, I'll have my VP Mr. Blake handle the rest!"

There's suddenly a loud CLICK as your call is transferred.

"Good evening, Mr. Producer, I am Mr. Blake, Vice President of the Hyperion Corporation." You hear a stuffy old British voice say in a rather tired tone. "As per your agreement with Mr. Jack, $5000 is being wired to your account. The only conditions are that you must prominently display our sponsorship, and we reserve the right to request your idols appear in Hyperion promotional materials."

"That sounds acceptable." You nod. It was all standard procedure for sponsorships.

"Mr. Jack is also thinking of organizing his own events to host your idols." Blake continues. "We will contact you again once details have been sorted out. You will of course be compensated accordingly."

"Um thanks."

"Have a good evening, Mr. Producer."

A final CLICK signifies that the call has ended.

"Well, that was something." You whistle.

"With that sponsorship money...." Jenner blinks. "We can actually double our recruitment. Two support staff and two idols."

The milsup vehicle is a trap.

With our idol numbers, we're better off getting the armoured suv. Seats 8, armoured and looks normal.

"Come on, it'll be worth it!" You grin. "Besides, we got Julie and Cole to help us out, now. They know the area, and at the very least, can intimidate everybody else into not bothering use."

"True..." Jenner sighs. "But let's put that off till the morning. Now our performance Idol..."

>PRINCESS: Well mannered and regal. Princess-type idols rely on the barriers they set up between themselves and the "commoners" in order to create an air of mystery around them, which makes them more appealing in a way.
>HAUGHTY: Haughty idols, or S-Idols in some circles, specialize in demeaning their audience and acting superior to them in every way. Naturally attracts "Ms", which can be far more common than one thinks. However, non-Ms may find her behavior off putting.
>YOUNG: Sometimes idol companies like to recruit idols who are younger than normal, sometimes as low as middle school age. While obviously his puts them under a lot more scrutiny, younger idols do have a certain appeal older idols lack. Younger idols are particularly popular among older audiences and those of a similar age group.

The van is most definitely not bulletproof.

I think a vehicle upgrade is definitely warranted.

And even after we get the suv, we can keep the van as a spare utility vessel after uparmoring it.

Hmm, selecting our performance idol. Rin is good, but we need to go for a theme here. So far, Cole is the most popular of our group, appealing to the delinquent masses. We need a performance that can play off her, so I say:

We need someone that can demand attention--someone who grabs the headlines with a fiercer stranglehold than Jason strangling a slutty camp counselor

This sounds right up our alley.

need a second car anyway - one for town/support staff, one for combat deliveries and extractions.

I'm not sure a princess is fitting to our underdog image, and we have people with attitude already. Not a big loli fan, so how about...

"Hmmm, maybe we could go with somebody a little more Punk or Gothy? I feel we need somebody who can be a more effective foil to Rin." You suggest.

"Hmmmm, you do have a point there. I'll see what I can find." She says. "I'll probably have something for you in the morning."

Man, now that just reminds you how damn tired you are.

"I suggest you get some rest Producer." Jenner says, as if she's been reading your mind. "I can take care of things here."

"Thanks, Jenner."

"It's the least I can do."

Well, while you did want to see how that little sleepover was going, you just didn't have the energy to. At least you'd be able to see the aftermath, though. That would be an interesting sight to see...
