Big Changes Quest 01Twitter: https://twitter.com/BigChangesQuestCharacter Sheet: http://pastebin.com/ZrxgPndSThe universe is dark and infinite. Spreading in all directions, a black void that is all consuming and all encompassing, it mocks you. This dark gives way to a field of distant stars, their light finally finding you in this forsaken nowhere amid the endless expanse. Points of light against the black or muted glows behind swirling nebula. Cosmic wheels spin in the distance at speeds imperceptible but incalculably fast to your mind as it is now.You are small. You are insignificant. Curling into yourself you hug your knees as you drift pale and naked amongst the total of the cosmos. Anything worth grabbing onto besides yourself is too big or far away, it is lonely and you wish you could reach out to the stars and pull yourself home.Flinching against the cold, you shiver, running your small hands to provide some warmth or friction. It helps, but something is wrong. Inspecting your otherwise pale white hand, you find it stained in red. The red is warm but fleeting.-oh yeah- you muse.It comes back to you in bits and pieces.-I must have died-Tsubasa...that is your name. It means wing. If you’re dead, shouldn’t you have wings? It would make it easier to reach the stars. You were...you had just graduated, again. Again? A higher accreditation in Engineering, you weren’t sure what you were going to do with it. Wanting for nothing, financially, having a sizeable trust set up in your name and the rest of your inheritance after your parents died back then…-If I’m dead- your smile is wistful as your words sound in the endless space -maybe I can see them again-Dead...it gnaws at you, just how did you die?
>>30776546You’ve worked the same job part time, nights and weekends, for the past several years. A service attendant, then a shift manager. Not that you’d needed the job, you just thought it would be good to establish a work history...and have something extra, to have something that you earned for yourself. It was Sunday Morning, and a large pressurized tanker truck just pulled up while you were logging the next week’s schedule and getting ready to close your shift. The boss was in, complaining about how the new guy outside wasn’t paying attention and wanted you to head out there and make sure he didn’t put gasoline in the thing instead of diesel.Acknowledging him in a gruff but assenting voice, you went outside, to his jeers that if you spoke nicer people would actually realize you were a girl. The last thing you saw of the shop back was him picking up your schedule and double checking it with a nod. As you cleared the front of the shop, amid pyramids of snacks and shelves of drinks, a spark ahead caught your eye.Outside, the new guy and the truck driver were running frantically as electrical arcs were leaping about from the tanker. You remember the push you felt in your mind, that you had to get to the fuel line kill switch and activate the fire systems before anything blew. You could have run back the way you came, but something propelled you out and forward. Slamming the red button inside of the outdoor kiosk, you tried to sprint back to the safety of the station’s walls when you were lifted and thrown, a strange numbness shooting down your spine as your hair stood on end.The charge lanced through you and you hit the sliding glass door ahead of you hard. Rolling over in a scramble, you right yourself just in time to see the conflagration happen behind him. Fire and silver foam launching in all directions. The last thing you saw was a piece of burning shrapnel coming for you. Then your world falls away.>Actions?>Words?

>>307767741 of 2Following the red as it runs down your otherwise pale white arm, you take stock of yourself. Gone are the scars from old injuries of the accident, gone is the basic pigment of your flesh. Your body is lithe and wiry, though not strong despite your efforts. Lines of red fall from the lower right side of your chest...the skin is smooth and unbroken, but blood wells on the surface all the same. Is this where the shrapnel struck you?It doesn’t hurt here. Something is mixing with the red from above, lines of black are running from your shoulders. The dye you had been using to keep your hair from standing out, the black to look normal came to the afterlife with you? Odd. And now it is running, smearing the surface of your soul and mixing with the memory of your blood, exposing your natural hair color in the process.Funny, you don’t remember the red of your hair being so vibrant. It had always been...muted.The well of blood and die cover you, becoming a skin tight carapace against the endless cold. It feels warm, though you aren’t certain for how long. You can feel it creep up your neck and finally settle against your cheekbones and the back of your neck, rising no higher, just as the mix wraps around the edge of your toes.
>>307770072 of 2Uncurling, you stretch against the sensation of being wrapped in a thin layer of the black and red stain, it isn’t solid yet despite it’s appearance, and the mixing swirling pattern of black on red continues to shift against your motion like oils warming between two panes of glass. You touch your fingers together and pull them apart with relative ease, threads sticking between the two covered digits snap back after they pull against each other but offer you no resistance.Satisfied with your state of self, you reach out. Pushing, grabbing, and occasionally kicking at nothing experimentally until you do so with the intent of moving. The stars becomes lines, falling away from you and towards you as the universe spins. The carapace ripples against the force and your short hair whips at the speed you can neither measure nor comprehend.>Continue this flight aimlessly, exalt in it or fear it?>Attempt to find bearings>Other Actions?>Words?

>>307772391 of 2You fly for a bit longer, it feels wonderful. Faster than your father’s bike when you were young, faster than your friend’s convertible. Faster than a run on a cold morning. It is freedom, but...it is a distraction. What should you be doing? Where are you? There has to be something more going on than just floating in a big empty space. You drop from the speeding streak through the stars, your shell slipping ahead of you before snapping back tight, you look about, and amid the endless expanses you are floating above the spiral of a galaxy. It moves perceptibly, unlike those you earlier saw in the distance. There is a familiarity to it, the milky way. Somewhere there is home. Somewhere there is earth. It’s bright, it drowns out the other distant stars, nebula, and galaxies. You bask in it’s light and soak in a cosmic resonance as it pulses strangely. You feel electric and itchy beneath the liquid carapace that clings to your soul.It shifts, becoming a smooth material, no longer feeling wet. The patterns of red and black still shift from moment to moment, you can no longer tell which is the base color. You shiver and gasp as the pulsing stops...and there is something new astride the spiral of the galaxy where you once belonged.Colossal figures walk upon the mote light sheet of stars with unknown deference. They are not human, but you cannot tell what shape they truly take, your mind unable to process their existence...but not breaking from the strain of witnessing their presence.
>>307780162 of 2These figures set themselves low on either far end of the spiral. Paused there for a time; you drift and watch, transfixed by something unexpected in your state of assumed death.By some unseen signal, they erupt. Colliding above the center of the galaxy with a thunderous crash to shake even the heavens. It thrills you. A memory of your life when you were young, your parents taking you to watch Sumo in the winter. Your father had told you that the purpose of this contest was to represent and honor the clash of gods, each wrestler being symbolic and standing in for one on this purified but ultimately mortal place. Here though. Here you witness a clash of gods. It is something beautiful. It is something wonderful. It is something grand. To witness this makes your heart skip a beat, or you imagine it would if it were still beating. You hear a distant and muffled siren behind you. Shouts in a familiar tongue. You can’t decide if it is important or not, considering what lies before you.Gods are so large as to actual matter in the endless universe, while you are so small. Something changes, and you see surrounding the periphery of the milky way four beasts. Dragon, Turtle, Phoenix, & Tiger. You want to get closer, to better witness that which shakes the cosmos, but there are those curious and familiar sounds behind you.Gods won’t notice one so small coming close to watch...maybe closer you’ll be able to comprehend them?Somewhere behind you someone is mutedly counting out numbers, you can feel repeat pressure on your chest beneath the carapace.>Actions?>Words?

>>307784031 of 2Rolled 4.You want to get closer and you desire the notice of the gods that they know they have a spectator. The sounds behind you and the pressure in your chest...you think someone back on earth is trying to pull you back from the brink, that must mean you’ve only been here a short time. Before dying in full or before returning to life, whichever fate lies ahead of you there is still something you must do here. You close your fist and tense your entire body. Around you the carapace reliquifies, half of it’s mass permeating your pores and pulling into you, the rest exploding off of your body and forming an extended wire frame human skeleton stretching out twice your height above your head and twice your height below your feet. It pulls you, stretching you out along it’s pathways. When you flew earlier you felt freedom, a greater freedom than ever experienced in your life before. Now, now it is power and presence. Never in your life have you felt stronger. Never before in your life have you felt greater. To your own perspective, and perhaps to the very scale of the universe around you, are still miniscule with not change to your immediate proportions save the threadbare straining of the carapace as it returns to your skin. The well on your chest erupts in red, it pours back upon you and thickens the mixture barely covering your form, allowing it to spread and cover anew.It is red, the black remains only at the periphery or in small circling motes and blots shifting under the light of the cosmos. When it settles, you feel grande, no where near the size of the gods...but you feel enormous and important, even for a speck against the black that you still remain.
>>307787372 of 2Always small, always lilith. Never strong, never noticeable, never big. You’ve always wanted to be taller, bigger, and stand out more; not just another unnoticed face. You approach with speed, praying for the notice of the gods before the rising sound of the sirens behind you and the feeling of pressure on your lips and in your lungs drags you back to earth. They sound so much closer now.Despite your perceived speed, a giant comet of red above the milky way, the distance continues to close too slowly for your liking. That distance is closing, however, and the gods appear all the more larger with each passing second. You feel the shockwaves of their clash, it almost throws you off course. It’s beautiful, the reverberation of energy that could tear stars asunder shakes you, and makes you smile and feel warm. You are too close now to see either of the gods in their entirety, and still your mind shields you from their incomprehensible nature. You hit a wall, hard. Translucent dragon scales bare your path as the sound of your impact echoes among the infinite. All presence of the clash ahead ceases, and you can feel 6 perceptions focus upon you.<WHO/WHAT/SELF/IS/ARE/YOU?> the not sound almost splits your enlarged skull open.>Respond with one word that you may fill this blank aspect of your character sheet: Character Trait: 1d20: What word defines your outlook in life/personal mission/definition of self?Time will be given to brainstorm without quoting this post before you are all comfortable with a handful of ideas to vote upon.

>>307801251/2>EternalThe greater size you granted yourself collapses. Your expanded carapace comes splashing down around you, almost drowning and crushing you against the gravity of the scales on which you lay. It doesn’t matter, something else is helping you breath back where you have lungs; and as you break the surface of your red and black you gasp as it stops and the compression on your chest resumes; someone telling you to wake up. Crying that it wasn’t fair, you were supposed to go on to do something and not wither and die in this dump.Still far away, the faces of the gods perceive you. You feel their pull, and in that they have noticed you; there will ever be a part of yourself as you, an image of your whole identity in one moment of time, carried with them forever. This sensation drains you, and your arms give out, splashing back into the moisture still recollecting on your surface, thicker and more viscous than it had been before.Understanding radiates from the scales, and as the dragon roars somewhere nearby, you can hear the call of the other three beasts. This contest is postponed until the lone spectator returns.-Returns?-<SHE/IT/THEY/YOU/ARE/IS/WERE/WILL/NEW/YOUNG/FRESH/BECOMING>Again their words nearly tear you apart...but you are stronger somehow from them merely acknowledging your existence. The scales shatter and you fall. Faster than you had flown you are drawn through the hearts of stars and across the reaches of the milky way, homing in on one system of stars, past assorted planets of rock and gas. Finally falling fast upon a blue world.
>>307802512/2You are burning as you hit the atmosphere. The carapace giving way and trailing behind you, you fall as a naked specter to the world below. It stops burning, it starts itching. Sensations rising through your body where you thought you’d been pierced by the jagged hot metal, along the scars of flesh left by the accident that took away your family, inside of the bones you broke in that hellish impact so long ago.You scream, as you feel your insides split open and reforged, until the ground looms closer. The burning wreckage of the refueling terminal and the ruined front of the station. Firetrucks fight the blaze, and you are propped up by a paramedic being overseen by your worried boss and the new guy, shirt open, and with a plastic sheath over your lips and in your mouth. The medic draws away from those lips and places their hands over your chest and squares their shoulders even above your sternum to pump again. You land into yourself, and breath under your own power. Side by side, the worried face of your boss and the terrified and confused face of the new guy disappear behind panel doors. You drift in and out of consciousness in the Ambulance, in the ER, in some kind of scanning machine, and repeatedly in a simple room with a white drop ceiling, a florescent light, a fan, and a wall mounted television.Still you fade in and out. Familiar faces and unfamiliar faces watching you or talking to one another. At one point a one of the doctors is arguing with some men in black suits with several briefcases, a familiar figure steps up from the far inside of the room to back him...your father’s lawyer? You haven’t seen him in months...mostly because you’d been avoiding him to try and figure out what to do with your graduation then looming, now passed. Before you can summon the energy to respond, it’s gone. Your friends are entering the empty room, Junpei claiming he didn’t know “she” meaning you were a girl. Of course you didn’t, idiot, you never asked. Hitomi has flowers and sets them on your tray, they are immaculately arranged, you envy her talent a moment before you can appreciate it. Kaito punches Junpei in the shoulder and calls him an idiot while a passing nurse pulls him out by the ear and verbally reams him for smoking in the hospital...he wasn’t even lit up, it was just hanging there. Hanako is crying because all the good ones are either taken or secretly girls. Kentaro is silent and stoic as he always is, setting a single card down on your tray.
>>307814152/2It passes again before you can responded through the grog, and when you again wake, it is dark out. They draw a vial of blood from your IV before heading toward the inside of your room and you faintly hear a window closing. Its bright again, a doctor is shining a light in your eye, you weakly moan and try to bat his hand away. A nurse and your Boss, Takeda Fujimoto, are there with him. >>307819861/2Its dark out, the room is lit by the fluorescent light. Setting in the corner talking are two of the men in black suit and your Father’s lawyer. As opposed to earlier they seem rather cordial and are going over a number of papers, photographs, and tablet screens.Your groaning gets their attention as you sit up, feeling incredibly weak but not all that sore or in pain anymore. Hunger and thirst are the first things that cross your mind as you hear a crinkle of wet plastic beside you, a short glance tells you that your IV bag is empty, you begin groping about your bed for the call button.“Ah, is she stirring again?” says one of the men in black without looking up from his legal pad.“No. NO!” your father’s Lawyer smiles, “She’s awake! Tsubasa-san, are you alright, do you remember who I am?”Of course you do, how could you forget the man who took you in after your parent’s died and until you were old enough to move out on your own volition. Hideo Kanagari has been like a close uncle to you, even if you’ve been avoiding him as of late. The familiar smell of his aftershave envelops you seconds before his hug.“Of course, Uncle Hideo,” you cough, “That was real fucking stupid...was anyone hurt?”“No, no,” he laughs, “The driver got away with your coworker, and you hit the emergency switch in time, otherwise the entire block might have gone up,”“Well, that’s good at least,” you lurch forward and up as he lets go, you voice cracked and dry, “Can you find the call button, I think I need another bag or a meal...I bet three days without solid food does a number on the stomach,”“Three days? Tsubasa-chan, you’ve been in and out for two weeks. The Doctor was worried about brain damage,” he sighs.
>>307826282/2Two weeks? Two weeks! What about your apartment, rent was certainly due, and your bills?!“Anyway, you rest up. These men are from the company that owned the truck that exploded, Mori Micro Industries. Rest and get better, I’m going over everything with a fine toothed comb,”“Everything...comb...I don’t,”“The investigation reports have found no fault on the company or driver’s part that caused the freak discharge, they’re blaming it on a lightning strike…” he looks away from you, “They’re offering to give you access to a private outpatient facility for your recovery PT if any is needed for your recovery, all on their dime. Additionally, they want to discuss with you a settlement in apology for the accident,” He hands you the call button, you press it repeatedly.“but...settlement? Aren’t those only offered if we have grounds to sue,”“Yes, which is strange and why I’m still going over things. Just rest for now, we can talk about it more when you’re up to it,”Nodding, weakly, you wait for the nurse to come as he heads back to talk with the severely uninterested straight laced men. When she arrives she takes one look at your bag and weak but smiling face and leaves again. In a few minutes, she is back with a new bag that she hooks into your IV drop, and a small cold and fairly light snack fare.It is not nearly filling enough.Big Changes Quest Thread 1End

>>30782762What are everyone's thoughts and expectations thus far, after thread 1?
>>30782725Thanks for running. Certainly an interesting hook, but hard to tell where the quest will go from here. Guess I'll have to wait for the next few threads to find out!
>>30782797Biggest issue is the way her friends came off in the brief reference to our MC's friends I'm not looking forward to meeting any of them except maybe Hitomi. Can they all disappear forever?
>>30782725It was fun. Difficult to say where it'll go from here, but I'm looking forward to it regardless.
>>30782797Its good, a little slow for me but bearable.
>>30782839Hey, Hanako seemed like she is a close friend (that wanted to be more, but is straight and so now it's all awkward).Junpei, of course, is an idiot.
>>30782797Interesting, just finished reading through it.I wish you luck on future threads!
>>30782939>Junpei, of course, is an idiot. Not surprising.
>>30782797Hard to tell where this is going but interesting enough that i'll definitely check the next thread.
>>30783008Kaito and Kentaro seem like the types that would have our back, and might have a good dynamic with each other; one being the loud, brash delinquent and the other being the stoic, laconic straight man.
I am glad it was enjoyed and hope you enjoy where things are heading, and remember, you control what will happen to Tsubasa, I had my plans and pieces of focus as seen in this thread and on her character sheet.I can answer a few questions if you would like, and don't forget to follow the twitter @bigchangesquest
>>30783123Ah, glad that came across, I was just offering brief character snapshots before fleshing them out more in depth later on.>>30783008Junpei is an idiot, a well meaning idiot, but an idiot.>>30782939Hanako will have hilarious demands that include the words "makeover" once Tsubasa is discharged.
>>30782839They will get fleshed out more later. For now I only provided a brief snapshot. If all of you ever toward dropping these personal relationships, or do something like drop off the grid, they will fade into obscurity baring rare appearance.
>>30782797Looks interesting. Obviously it'll take a thread or two to see how things pan out, but so far all's good.
>>30787277Big things are on the horizon.
>>30790206One might say.. Big Changes?
