Asteroid Explorer. Yes we are back. The story so far: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/30232212/Follow us here: https://twitter.com/MinCorpPixelBut I get that you lazy bastards don’t want to read through all this crap again so here is a short recap: You are a small expedition sent by MinCorp, a huge, faceless, interstellar corporation (You name the price, we’ll rip you off) on a class c asteroid you decided to name Chiron. Although the Board of MinCorp had its doubts about this mission, and only reluctantly funded it, they agreed to grant you some resources for your expedition. After first troubles of showing any profit whatsoever (must’ve been your subordinates.. nothing to do with your decisions) you finally made progress and offered some unknown Crystal to the support carrier of MinCorp. They promptly demanded a steady supply of at least 3 units of Crystal per month.Should you mine any more than that, it is up to you to decide what to do with it. Save it, sell it, smelt it, do whatever you please.Last time:You have encountered a new lifeform on this rock. Naturally you immediately opened fire and scared it away. It’s not the first time you had problems with strange creatures here. Not only you had troubles dealing with hostiles, your supply-freighter was attacked by pirates. Min Corp decided to send a better armed vessel next time. There will be cutbacks.
>>30347282Your engineers discovered that the hazardous space-weather is slowly ruining your solar panels. For now they are still supplying you with sufficient energy, although energy drops have occurred more frequently lately.Lev suggested to use the anorganic carbon that is found all over the asteroid to power your base. This time:Day: 97>Resources: 18>Current pop: 9 (2 Engineers, 2 Mineralogists, 1 Expedition leader, 2 Mercenaries, 1 Botanist. 1 Xenobiologist)>Rations 14 (Max pop: 6)Paroli and Sally set up the ordered solar panel, that is now used to power your newly acquired insect farm which already produces a huge amount of food. (Rations +2) Dr. Rant, your latest colony member hasn’t shown himself too much. He is mostly sleeping in his quarters.Archibald is still trying to figure out how to unscrew the bar in the lounge, but he gets distracted by its content a lot. While Rute, your second mercenary guards the tunnel with your Miners Peter and Lev.
>>30347282YayTell the engineers to fix the solar panels. How does Lev suggest we use the anorganic carbon?
>>30347282Some rules / information: We do what the popular vote demands, but you will have to roll (1d100) for important events / building facilities.Every Person needs 1 ration per week. Currently you produce 5 per week on your own.The Corvette “Sea Lion“ is scheduled to arrive every month. (next one at day 112)What would you like to do next?
>>30347327Quick question, what's that building above the lounge?
>>30347344a electrolysis chamber. making oxygen and that jazz.>>30347326>How does Lev suggest we use the anorganic carbon?I am sure you guys will figure something out yourselves.
>>30347327Fix the damn power problem by upgrading or fixing or building solar panels so we can get the bug farm working and feed our peopleAlso if I recall correctly the alien was back and we could see the eyes in the darkness and we were gonna call down our resting guard to help drive it off
Rolled 73>>30347374oh right and a roll
What's that red stuff in the caves? And this >>30347374
Rolled 13>>30347415aliem blood
>>30347374Awww yeah, Asteroid Explorer!Seconded
>>30347374>>30347436you guys do realize taht the bug farm is already up and running. the solar pannels still work, but they are about to break down.
Inorganic carbon? Can we burn it?
Rolled 96>>30347448ah so it is.Well lets build another one anyway for when we make another bug farm
>>30347473Well, with a roll like that how can not agree?Seconded
>>30347473So are we just going to paster the whole asteroid full with inefficient solar pannels that are prone to damage? Are you guys this short sighted?
>>30347282Damnit, still have schoolwork, so I can't fully devote myself to this.Do we have glass? Can we shield the panels without impacting performance?
>>30347485I agree with this guy. Let's put our Xenobiologist to work on the alien blood, and get our Engineer figuring out alternatives to solar.
>>30347499With what facilities? We don't have a lab he could work in
Collect the alien tissue/blood and have our new Dr study it.
>>30347503Have him improvise or whatever.
>>30347498Yeah, you have glass a plenty, but it would cost some resourses and impact energy output
Rolled 70>>30347327We should fix the solar panels, and start working on using the inorganic carbon Lev mentioned, since there's plenty of that.>>30347451
>>30347517Is there IRC for this or something?
>>30347473i agree with this
We should forget the solar powers and use the time we have while they work to build a carbon power-plant
Day: 97>Resources: 18>Current pop: 9 (2 Engineers, 2 Mineralogists, 1 Expedition leader, 2 Mercenaries, 1 Botanist. 1 Xenobiologist)>Rations 14 (Max pop: 6)Archibald is on his way down to the tunnel. Strangely the crane indicates that his combat suit is way heavier than when he was lifted up.Also, the bar in the lounge is almost empty.Paroli and Sally started repairing the solar panels. But they aren’t quite sure what to do. Maybe because they where trained to set up things and not fix said things when they are broken.
We should increase food production.
>>30347538>>30347473insect farms require parts from the monthly shipment, and we could need/want something else they have to offer, so we shouldn't be relying on that
>>30347546it cost you 1 resource by the way, you are at 17, not 18
>>30347546>way heavier than beforeINTO QUARANTINE WITH HIMHELL NO ARE THE ALIUMS GETTING TO OUR BUGS
>>30347546Oh shit look at those eyes in the mineshaftSend our other merc down there
>>30347546>Strangely the crane indicates that his combat suit is way heavier than when he was lifted up.Some invisible shit hitching a ride on him?
>>30347546I love how we have steadfastly ignored our crewmembers blatant alcoholism. We might honestly want to address it, simply because he is one of the people responsible for protecting us against the alien menace.
>>30347546Archibald needs a diaper change aparently and a subtle hint that we need a mechanic
Rolled 12>>30347517>>30347546Do it, but I'm against building any more solar panels. Assign 1 engineer for this. Sunk costs+reliable energy supply that does not run outInstall more lights to the left, to be done by the free miner.Have Dr. Rant study the blood in the tunnel, lab or no lab.2nd engineer will start building a room at the bottom of the shaft. Defensible walls and a worktable. Upgrading to lab can happen later. Is the last bits of crystal submerged in water?>>30347565yeah, it's called alcohol.
>>30347559Wait, he's begin lifted fown... ignore me then, I misunderstood. Still, I think we could do with some sort of quarantine system given we're pretty sure there's alium scum down there.
>>30347565no he's just taken all the booze from the bar
>>30347567I like you. you should get a nametag.
>>30347572This guy. Get our xenobiologist working. We'll get him proper facilities soon.
>>30347572>>30347577By how much can a few bottles of booze alter the weight of goddamn powerarmor, anons?
>>30347567A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. And he handled himself pretty well last time he was piss drunk against an alien.
>>30347587>FewYou underestimate Archie's liver.
Rolled 45>>30347546Have them build a more effective grid system for the solar panels or somethingDr can collect some samples at the leastAlso if we could build a repair bot or maintenance bot that would be nice
>>30347587not just a few bottles, ALL of the booze
>>30347605Seconding repair bot. Possibly a few smaller drones that can patrol and fix minor stuff by themselves.
Rolled 77>>30347605Also Id like to get some more alcohol for our mercdistill alien blood or somethingInsect liquor?grow some ops?
>>30347572I like the idea of securing a workspace down in the tunnels. Might be dangerous, a bit, buuuuuuuuut it'd cut down on the back and forth crane bullshit.
>>30347626I suggest we add a second lounge in the tunnels, so our mercs won't have to leave all the time.
>>30347644or just put a booze cabinet on the mining machines so the mercs have to be with them to drink
>>30347659Imagine a beer fridge inside those things. Good luck getting a cold one that's not entirely foam.
Day: 99>Resources: 16>Current pop: 9 (2 Engineers, 2 Mineralogists, 1 Expedition leader, 2 Mercenaries, 1 Botanist. 1 Xenobiologist)>Rations 10 (Max pop: 6)The Engineers finished the repairs on the solar panels (- 2 resources total) but they are not sure how long it will hold. Paroli is very happy with her work though.Archibald arrived in the tunnel and… well… lets say.. walks?, towards Rute.Dr. Rant is on his way down with some portable lab-equipment.Nothing fancy and he won’t come far with it, but it is a start.
Rolled 75>>30347688Oh shit, there's two now>>30347572So:More lights to the left;Extending the base with a room in the bottom of the shaft, Dr Rant can work there for now.
Rolled 66>>30347688Oh shit its TWO aliensI put faith in Archi's alcohol enhanced sensesSo repair/maintenance robot?
Rolled 10>>30347688Get one of the engies down to work on some fortifications down there.Have Rute and the miner back off and meet up with Archie. Best not be in front of him when he goes berserk.
Rolled 20>>30347688OP, I think you might just want to throw out the whole max pop bit. We've been mostly ignoring it, and it's not like we'd be able to solve it without further exaggerating the importance of engineers. Also, you should note if there are any plans that are currently in motion. I don't know if I still need to vote for my setup:1 engi: solar panel shielding1 engi: fort and workstation at shaft entrance1 miner: lights to the left1 xeno: study blood, use workstation later1 miner: don't drown/fall in waterRute: OH FUCK HERE THEY COMEArchibald: I hope you can still shoot.
Maybe we should have some sort of emergency hatch installed to lock off the tunnels from the rest of the structure in case of a gas leak, or flooding, or....something else.
>>30347732This guy's plan is solid. I'm worried about the aliens, though. Two mercs only wounded one; we might be better served pulling everyone out of the tunnels and just having the mercs cleanse that shit.
>>30347732second this, i kinda like the max pop thing though
How solid are those mining machines? Can they help out in a fight?
>>30347810but it hasn't really done anything, and if it did, we'd be at game over with how long we ignored it.
>>30347825I'm guessing it's more of an indicator of how many people we could sustain indefinitly with the rations we produce
>>30347825even if it doesn't really do anything i'm sure the OP will eventually use it
>>30347825these people will die before they'll be a strain on rations probably
We could set up an impromptu lab at the bottom of the shaft. Computers, air-tight containment rooms (doubles as an impromptu brig), etc.We also need to set up blast doors at the bottom of the shaft and security cameras. What are in the two additional boxes in storage right now? Also if we're pulling our miners back out, then we probably want them on the surface harvesting that carbon for power generation.
Rolled 92>>30347825oh man I just thought of a great way to produce a bit of powerCapture the aliens and put them in hamster wheels
Day: 101>Resources: 16>Current pop: 9 (2 Engineers, 2 Mineralogists, 1 Expedition leader, 2 Mercenaries, 1 Botanist. 1 Xenobiologist)>Rations 10 (Max pop: 8)Dr. Rant set up his lab equipment temporarily at the bottom of the shaft.Sally is on her way down there to build something properly and more stable against possible threats.Lev managed to mine 1 unit of crystal, in the safe zone behind the mercs, although they are pulling back now.Meanwhile Peter is setting up lights at the left side of the tunnel. He can’t really see further than to the ledge but he has a bad feeling about this. Qui-Gon doesn’t sense anything.
>>30347926Send miners to surface or to the other side of the tunnel to mine carbon for power generators.also get an engineer or two down to the bottom of the shaft, infront of the field-lab that the xenologist is setting up, and begin setting up blast doors so we can keep anything from climbing back up the shaft if it gets that bad. Have the mercs provide cover.
>>30347926>Everyone uses environmental suits down there, but Rant doesn'twutOne merc should stay by the generator on watch for the aliens, the other goes to Peter to oversee the light placing
Rolled 98>>30347926i'd say we have the miners harvest the carbon fuel on the surface so we can figure out what to do with it
Rolled 22>>30347926I think Pete should try caving in the leftmost shaft.
Rolled 89>>30347975forgot roll>im regretting this
Rolled 82>>30347969Also once the first set of blast doors are complete, make another set on the other side of the main vertical shaft. That way we don't have to worry about any attacks from the rear.We set up the blast doors and we're good to continue expanding mining without too much worry about aliens. Then we can set up further blast doors every so often to make entire segments of the tunnels safe for excavation.forgot roll also >>30347969
>>30347926can somebody tell me what's in the two big boxes in storage right now?
>>30348016The resources we have. Like, the abstract currency we use for building stuff
I see our morale-boosting flag still isn't up.
Rolled 87>>30347926we have a Jedi on board? NeatSo yeah fortifications and temporary lab and mercs hold their current positions this rock has some ice on or in it maybe? might be nice to have more water for recycling if the miners could locate somebotanist can tie a crystal to a stick or something I guess
>>30348035We don't just have ice, we have full fucking liquid water. Which is probably why there are aliens on the asteroid.Anyway, I'm not going to feel safe until we have a blast door with firing ports.
>>30348035are you retarded or something?
>>30348070Calm down, no need to get mad.
>>303479261 engi: solar panel shielding1 engi: fort and at shaft entrance1 miner: Suck up the water, build platform/bridge if necessary1 miner: Keep mining crystal, build platform/bridge if necessaryI don't see how the shielding is taking so long without updates, but we really need to get coal-steam plants running.
>>30348184It takes a while because there is no consensus. The shielding isnt happening because its a big project with only backer.
>>30348200shielding isn't a bad idea, but honestly I'd prefer the engineers to get down to the base of the area and build a blast door on either side of our mining shaft, preferably ones with firing ports that close and open on command.
>>30348200idk id say consensus is fortifications, lab, explore left sidebuild a ramp to get up left side im sure miners know how to build a ramp atleast
>>30348218or maybe just digging through that small mound
>>30348200So the shielding IS being done. That's really all I want to know. What's your word on the max pop? Is all of our psych problems stemming from that, or have we been surviving by the graces of GM fiat?
>>30348218carving a ramp might work better. But putting the miners on the surface to gather that carbon we need for power generation where they're safe and their mining rigs aren't in danger of being damaged might be a better idea.
>>30348238>So the shielding IS being done. That's really all I want to know.no, he said it's not being done?
>>30348253then what do you think the engi is doing?
Rolled 89>>30348218I agree with this. Grab an engineer to build the ramp if needed.
>>30348200>only backerI mean only 1 backer.
Day: 103>Resources: 15>Current pop: 9 (2 Engineers, 2 Mineralogists, 1 Expedition leader, 2 Mercenaries, 1 Botanist. 1 Xenobiologist)>Rations 10 (Max pop: 8)Sally, now in the bowels of the asteroid with the mercenaries and the miners, starts to work on blast doors to the right.Lev is on his way up to mine coal on the surface with his trusty mining vehicle.Your crew suddenly feels a close bond as if something has changed on the asteroid, taking away all fear and reigniting the will to move forward. Feels a bit like home. (It’s the flag guys)Since there seem to be some misunderstandings: You get roughly 3 actions per turn. 1 for building and 2 for doing stuff. Or two for building if its only small things. Roughly.
>>30348289ohshitohshitohshitboth engineers working on the blast doors before they get overrun
Rolled 23>>30348223O Asteroid! Our home and native land!True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise,The True North strong and free! From far and wide,O Asteroid, we stand on guard for thee.God keep our land glorious and free!O Asteroid, we stand on guard for thee.O Asteroid, we stand on guard for thee. Our anthem created and performed by Archiso yeah Forts and temp lab and mine some coal
>>30348289>four sets of eyesWe're all gonna die.
>>30348289>3 actions per turnohhhhhhhhhhYou know, I assumed it was 1 action per person, with idle workers continuing whatever work they were doing before. If this is the case, getting more people might not even be beneficial.-Finish those Blast Doors and shut them-Get coal plant running-Mine coal.Something like this?
Rolled 94>>30348338maybe a roll is needed..
>>30348289Wait...how the fuck is there a fossil fuel on an asteroid? And this is COMMON on asteroids? Are alien infested, liquid water and coal bearing asteroids common in this universe?I was hoping that the carbon would be used in making some other kind of power plant. Also, just had a thought. Can't we harvest the clouds being released from the recycling plant's waste as something? Fertilizer? Fuel? Something? Releasing it out into the void seems very inefficient.
Rolled 37>>30348289Since all the aliens are gathering at the right cave, I think it's safe to say they don't have access to the left cave. Either it's separate, or something even worse is sleeping in there. Either way I think we should block it off for the time being.
>>30348356>94thank space jesus
>>30348368>>30348389okay... so carbonaceous chondrite is a suitable stand in for coal? also, wouldn't burning coal on an asteroid where we have to use electrolysis to crack water for oxygen, which would also be burned up by burning coal wouldn't it?Can't we just make some hydrogen cell batteries and run our excess water and hydrogen produced from the electrolysis through it?
Rolled 4>>30348289finish the blast doorsmine coal have mercs keep watch
>>30348415arent hydrogene batteries... Just advanced batteries? Dont they produce no energy?
Blast doors, quick.
>>30348289>>30348415yeah, I've been kind of wondering about that. Burning coal might use up all our oxygen, and we get oxygen from electrolysis, so really, our fuel is water...how effective are the plants at oxygen production?
>>30348289Can we create an IED by the eyes?
>>30348415Well, regarding water, we have a lake that could potentially be pumped for water. But you could be on to something with the hydrogen batteries
>>30348435the batteries we're used to 'store' chemical potential energy. They combine chemicals, and you get electricity out of them.Hydrogen-cell batteries do the same thing basically, generating electricity from the combination of H2 and O into water.
We can't just 'get' energy from water using hydrogen fuel cells. That's not how chemistry works.
Day: 104>Resources: 14>Current pop: 9 (2 Engineers, 2 Mineralogists, 1 Expedition leader, 2 Mercenaries, 1 Botanist. 1 Xenobiologist)>Rations 10 (Max pop: 8)Your experienced engineer Sally finishes the Blast doors and closes them immediately. They shut nicely. Sally smiles. Peter is now cut off from your only know crystal vein.Rute is taking the first shift in guard duty.Archibald is leaning against the wall, chanting some random song he calls “anthem of the asteroid”. Lev has been prospecting some areas and found a coal vein near the surface. He excitedly tells you that it would be a sufficient amount of coal to provide energy for the base and he already has done the maths. It wouldn’t drain the oxygen you need for breathing.
>>30348480where do you get H2 and O from without spenidng as much energy for splitting them?
>>30348480the big difference is that hydrogen-cell batteries, unlike alkaline batteries, are able to have hydrogen and oxygen pumped into them very easily.>>30348489no one is suggesting that, we've already got an electrolysis device that breaks down water into H2 and O, so we can use hydrogen cells to recombine them.
>>30348514>>30348512>>30348512>>30348512>>30348512>>30348512This.Learn science: http://www.chemguide.co.uk/physical/energetics/bondenthalpies.html
Rolled 53>>30348509yay for GM fiatHave one engineer set up a generator for the coaland the other one to work on the shielding for the solar panels.Peter should place lights on the left side.
>>30348509Okay seriously those eyes are worrying me
>>30348509-explore left side, carve a ramp or whatever's needed to do so.-get a coal plant running-solar panel shieldingand I'm turning in for the night.
>>30348509We should improve the mine shaft. Reinforce the walls and put an actual elevator that goes top to bottom faster that the crane would.
>>30348539also, what's the status on the work of Dr Rant
Rolled 68>>30348509build a coal plant under the recycling center. We pump the waste smoke into the recyclers to get every little bit of resource out of them before the final waste is released into the void.Begin exploration down the western shaft. If push comes to shove we'll have to move forward, killing as we go, until we can build blast doors on the opposite side of the ice lake. Which is just what we may have to do. Move forward, scare the aliens with lots of flash and bang, advance, build that second set of blast doors.Follow that procedure every so often to make the chambers self contained and safe.
>>30348553>>30348539shielding and generator are both big projects. only one can be attempted at a time.>>30348558He hasnt got anything to study. Its outside the blast doors.
Rolled 35>>30348552You and me both pal. Let's get a heavy weapon next time the ship is around, just in case.-Go have a look to the left, cavern seems to continue farther upwards.-Protect the damn panels-Coal
>>30348588yay for trips
>>30348588What about the box the worm alien was in ? That would be a decent start.
So it's pretty much a tie between Solar panel shielding and the coal-power-plant for this turn. Please decide as a reply on me
>>30348613Solar panel shielding. Easier to preserve what we already have, will pay off in the long run.
>>30348613>Solar panel shielding
>>30348613fuck it. solar shielding. It'll save more effort in the long run. Less upkeep too.
I just thought of something. Op, would it be possible to get the small turret on top of the blast doors ? Would make me feel better about all those eyes.
Is OP drawing this? Or is this some kind of amazing game
>>30348509Can we contact the corvette and have them bring some extra food, we still aren't producing enough to be stable yet. We'll need a blast door set up on the left, as well as berthings at the bottom of the shaft for mining vehicles. We should also set up an airlock and a non-crane access to the bottom of the mine once the airlock is set up.
>>30348646Remember there's been lots of piracy in our sector recently, I don't think it'd be wise to forget that external threats exist.
>>30348613well then, only the shielding.>>30348651yes OP is drawing this, yes it is amazing still
>>30348651>what game is thisThat is far too familiar to me.
>>30348668I meant the one who can't shoot down ships.
>>30348668Our turret is too small to deal with any ship.
>>30348686>>30348695I still reckon it should stay topside. A station with a (small) gun is going to look much less juicy a target than a station without one to any pirate scum.
>>30348709I'm pretty sure we have another bigger one around (under the flag)
>>30348709Yes, I agree
>>30348726I didn't think we took the second gun? We nabbed the insect-farm didn't we?
>>30348726No.. that's the small one we have been talking about
>>30348750I didn't remember it being there, my bad.Doesn't change the fact that we'll need to pack some heat for when those aliens decide it's dinner time.
Day: 107>Resources: 12>Current pop: 9 (2 Engineers, 2 Mineralogists, 1 Expedition leader, 2 Mercenaries, 1 Botanist. 1 Xenobiologist)>Rations 6 (Max pop: 8)Lev is digging into the asteroid, grabbing any pile of rock with a high percentage of coal in it. He admires the work of Paroli and Sally although he seems to be having more eyes for Paroli than for the work they are doing.Sally and Paroli aren’t noticing the constant spectator while they are trying to figure out a method of shielding that wouldn’t totally deprive the energy outcome. (-2 Resources)Peter has hardly started exploring to the left as his eyes widen in fear and horror. A mass of pink meat and green eyes is slowly sliding towards the ledge. In disbelief he realizes that the pile is made up of many giant slug-creatures.
>>30348726That gun couldn't stop a ship it could probably get low flying jets though
>>30348774We just need to hold everything down until the supply ship arrives, then hopefully we can arm ourselves a bit better and take the fight to them.
>>30348774Well we could always give everybody a gun and have them march forward, clear out the aliens, get a second blast door built on the otherside of the lake.Or hell, we could lay a trap? Do we have any mining explosives? Grenades? If we toss some timed grenades with blinky, flashy lights to attract the aliens, have them set up with remote detonators. Boom. Alien problem nipped in the bud. We walk forward, build new blast doors on other side of lake. Done.
>>30348709In the first session we had a chain gun is that still around also the aliens are thirsty shut off the light so they can drink and they'll go away
>>30348794FALL BACK, get the mercs there to engage, get the engineers to start fucking building barricades and fabircating explosives RIGHT NOW. Get our surface miner to start digging from inside our base towards the mineshaft so well have an evac point.
>>30348794GODDAMN IT!I told you guys we needed a blast door on both sides. I told you man!
>>30348811What about having a guy on guard their and a large battery and he connects it to the water when the guy sees the alien. And the bodies will be intact
>>30348794OH SHIT SLUGS
What do people think of the idea of digging a big ditch to hold the slug-thing off? We have a miner who ought to be able to manage it pretty easily.
>>30348794Welp, this was going to happen sooner or later.FALL back, get a merc over here, and start building another barricade.
>>30348839So did I, but you morons didn't listen.I told you last thread, PRIORITY ONE WAS TO SECURE BOTH FUCKING SIDES OF THE SHAFT.
>>30348816Let you he big aliens drink and go kill the slugs!
>>30348811Second blast door is a good idea. Maybe we could bargain for a few strong spotlights and a heavy machinegun/explosi->>30348794MOTHERFUCKFALL BACK FALL BACK PANIC
>>30348860Oh shit...guys...bad news. The crane can only evac one person at a time...that means only one person is getting out at a time. I vote for the miner rig, we can't afford to loose it, next time down will be the engineers. Next one up will be xenobiologist, next one down will be another engineer.Hopefully our mercs can hold off the slugs that long. After this, we get a PROPER elevator built into the place.
So, what are your actions? (Remember you have 3)
>>30348794Mother of god.Fall back NOW, build a second blast door while our mercs give us cover.>>30348895Let's start lifting the mecs while still building a blast door. We might make it in time.
>>30348860>Second blast door is a good idea. Maybe we could bargain for a few strong spotlights and a heavy machinegun/explosi-Assuming we survive the slug things this is a good idea.Also. We're so fucking armor platting the sides of the shafts and blast door chambers. Those slug things might be reproduced from the slug thing that got out of the crate... which means that one set of blast doors is not going to be enough.
>>30348845Do you really think a ditch will hold back tunnelers?
>>30348794HERES THE PLAN, FUCKSTICKS.With the engineers building robust explosives they can just drop down the shaft to be used by mercs.
Rolled 19>>303489081) Build new blast doors.2) Miner rig falls back and evacuates to top of shaft.3) Mercs move there and provide covering fire.
>>30348895Have being suggesting a fix for that for a while. >>30348556
>>30348794FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK1. Get the mercs to engage the slugs.2. Get Peter out of there.3. See if Dr, Rant can ID the slugs on sight. They might have a convenient weak spot. 4. ??? Kiss ass goodbye
>>30348895I think it would be be better if we move back to the hilly area where the last light on the left is and have the mercs cover that area while we build another barricade. We literally can not loose access to this tunnel. It looks like our xeno guy is about to get his first specimens.
>>30348912Oh yes, ALSO.FIRE. FIRE IS OUR FRIEND. BURN IT. BURN THEM. PURGE THEM.

>>30348903Basically. Miner flee, merc run, engi get ready to build once merc secures the area.
>>30348903Do we have any sort of flammable liquid fuel?
>>30348794OP, do the mining mechs have any sort of flame-device? Or is it drill and drill only?
Rolled 97>>30348903And here is a roll
>>30348912no. no digging access shaft. There's too much dangerous shit in the mines. We keep access to the mines NARROW.We're going to turn the central chamber and shaft into a safe zone. Armor plate the floors and sides of the shafts so nothing is digging into there. Plus we're going to get some fucking seismological detectors in case of digging.Pirates are a problem for when we're more prosperous. We have enough crystals for the next shipment, but we need to armor up the shaft and central chamber. Turn it into an extension of the base properly, make sure nothing can dig into the sides or from underneath. A safe place to fall back to. Then we can begin focusing on expansion. Is everyone on board with this plan assuming we survive the next few updates?
>>30348903>>30348912This, secure the area. Miner will simply fall back (That shouldn't count, should it?)If we have the materials, explosives that can be dropped down the shaft to be used by mercs.Mercs move forward and engage.
>>30348954>>30348937>Fire>In a sealed environment>enjoy your carbon monoxide
>>30348961And all was well.
>>30348966The access shaft can wait, but I mean for it to go to our secured motor pool.
>>30348979Assuming the doors up their are air proof we can vent it
>>30348990definitely. I'm just saying that it should be priority 1 after this. Turning the space between the blast doors into a proper space for expansion outward into the tunnels. Secured against invasion by indigenous species. For all we know the slugs are just really gross and not at all harmful! (ha! yeah right!)Right now we focus on blast doors. Then after that order of operations:1) Build the expanded elevator system (say, 2-3 elevators up and down to speed things up)2) armor up the sides of the shaft and the walls and floor of the area between the blast doors3) Finish Solar panel shielding4) Get coal plant running.5) build another antfarm/bontanical garden?
>>30349042>Slugs are not harmfulYou mean the slugs that have already killed one of our crew members when we first encountered it? I get the feeling it isn't safe.
>>30349042We can all agree that mercs are heading left and miner is heading right. Right? They're space slugs and we have -guns-. I feel like it isn't a huge deal except when they're next to you.To clarify; not a huge deal compared to all the fuckinggoddamnshit on this fuckingdongblasting asteroid.Fuck man, everything wants to kill us.
>>30349077Yes.As well, we should see if the engineers can cobble together some stable frag devices to be employed by the mercs, and can survive being dropped down the shaft to them.

>>30349110The defense turret, it isn't doing anything right now.As well, get Patroli down there to assist. And start shooting as soon as your field of fire is clear, mercs. Have our miner start digging a trench beyond our blast door, sheer rock on our side and slope on theirs.

>>30349110Mercs get to the hill and get to shooting.Get that blast door up.God dammit we lost power and need another array or maybe need to somehow upgrade the ones we already have.
>>30349180No, the hill is a good fire area for now, we simply blast anything that crests it. It also allows us to throw grenades over it into the dead zone while lessening the chance of frag catching any of our guys.
>>30349180we can build another 2-4 arrays and shield them as well. That'll cover that power outage, then we get the other stuff.>>30349194Agreed. Hill provides cover. Kill anything that crests it. Prepare to fall back through the blast doors and close them at the first opportunity.
>>30349194This is in a cavern. We should probably be very, very careful.
>>30349194It also limits our firing arc and I would rather kill them as they come down here than wait for them to all come down and visit us.
So you're opening fire. I need a roll as reply on me and state for which merc you roll please. Also: Lounge isn't really turn-off-able.Energy using facilities are hydroponics, recycling-facility, Insect farm and the water filtration and pumping system. Also the electrolysis facility that is providing oxygen.
>>30349217also remember, blast doors need ports to fire through. Ports that can be closed if necessary.
>>30349110Oh asteroid we stand on guard for thee!>We space Canada now
>>30349239Recycling facility for the time being. It can store up stuff poured into it right? And we're not using it heavily YET. So it'll just fill up for a bit right?
>>30349194>>30349217No they need to be on the hill so that we can build the blast door litterally right behind them without having to move anything. Also it's a fucking hill which provides a slight advantage when shooting down at the targets and making it slightly harder for them to get up.

Ok. Here's what we do. Eveyone fall back up the shaft.Open the blast doors.Let the slugs and creepy other things duke it out. We'll have a tactical advantage as the winners try to climb up the shaft.
>>30349594No, its always time to call QMs on bullshit they think they can get away with.We specified WHERE we wanted the door. That means it goes where we say it, not where GM fiat does.

>>30350548cool. Just checking. That'll help with the power situation once the power plant is built. Probably should build it near to the weapon's locker so we don't have to worry about it being taken out along with any of the surface power supplies. So, list of things we need to build in no particular order (besides the coal plant)-Convert the mine shaft and the central chamber into a subterranean base of operations including:>Armored walls>short term storage for materials>at least two elevators for personnel.>lab>Alien containment>emergency weapon's cache>repair areas for mining rigs>Sonar/Seismic Sensors to detect the structure of the asteroid's tunnel system and to detect digging-Emergency Backup system that siphons excess produced power and stores it away for use if power systems fail for whatever reason.-landing area for shuttles and such to land, maybe even refuel using the excess hydrogen we produce-storage for the waste materials we produce from burning coal and our recycling system. Venting stuff into the void simply shouldn't be an option, it's a waste of valuable elements that could be used for other purposes.-some kind of security hub for remotely controlling blast doors, airlocks, turrets, and similar.-additional food production areas. Can we construct another ant-farm now since we have the seed population to draw from? or does that require a full kit?
>>30350792I'm not one of the guys above, but just pointing this out.Because you made a mistake, it took us an extra turn to build the blast doors (a 2 turn operation). So the slugs got even closer, to the point where being locked out was immediately fatal. At least, that's how it looks and feels from here at the sidelines. I'm sure that's not how you intended it OP, just how it felt from the outside, and why some of us are, to put it lightly, miffed. That said, certainly having fun with this. I love city-buildy type quests, and we don't get nearly enough of them. Just keep this in mind for future alright? Mistakes were made, misunderstandings happened. We live and learn.

>>30351020Don't worry about it. I was in the first thread, I was the one who got us Arch in the first place. I had a feeling there'd be something down there, I knew we'd need a good gunman. And he was, he was a damn hero. Despite what people are saying, I loved how you spun his end. Would it have been nice to see him live? Sure. But shit happens in life, and between a drunk, an inexperienced girl, and a panicking builder, someone was bound to die. Arch went out fighting, and that's good enough for me.
>>30351020No no! I get that. I know you don't want to screw us over, no good GM does, and you've been a pretty damn good GM so far. This is the first 'screw up' I've read inside of the series of threads. But keep in mind, players should always feel like when they fail, it's THEIR fault. Either from the results of their actions, or the results of their rolls. Otherwise their bullshit meters go off and the fun of the game immediately drains away. You're doing good. We all make mistakes, and frankly, it's so rare to see city-builder type quests that I'm worried about scaring you off even bringing this up. I don't want you to stop, cause I'm loving every minute of this. Sure, there's rocky spots, but they don't infringe on my enjoyment terribly much.Just keep in mind people's complaints about what happened this time when something like this crops up again, and adjust how you describe events accordingly.I think the chief offense here is that people feel like one of our favorite characters just died for no damn good reason. If he had just died because of the crappy rolls as slugs swarmed over him while he held the line? That would have been awesome. The gates closing behind him because the engineer fucked up some wiring though feels like he died a meaningless death on some level. That's where the chief source of outrage is I think. It'd have probably been better just to kill him off the moment the doors closed. Or atleast have had him swarmed and the doors shut because the assumption was by the other characters there was no saving him.on the whole though. I'm mostly on the side of this guy: >>30351113
>>30350243fuck... I just realized out alium number just went up to 9. We're going to need to deal with that asap.
>>30351020Then next time don't tell people to fuck off when they try and offer you advice, really the only reason they would is because they care.
This may sound silly, as I'm not normally interested in these kinds of threads. But is there any chance OP could set up a twitter or something for this so we can know when he is starting up?
>>30351373He has one, check the thread
not sure if anybody is still reading this, but in any case. Made this. It's a rough sketch of how we could expand in the future.
