Ok, sorry about the late start. In case you don't check the twitter, fair warning- it's snowing outside pretty badly. While for a lot of you this is a 'yeah, so?' moment, I live in piedmont NC, they tend to panic around here and the internet and power can be twitchy with snow and ice on the ground. Should be ok, but... if i drop off suddenly, well, you know why. If that happens, I'll do my dead level best to at least put out a tweet or something, and we'll try and reschedule. Let's see... other than that, I got nothing, haha. Archives are here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Strike%20witches%201989Kinda massive, I know. There's a pastebin character sheet and primer of sorts here: http://pastebin.com/zFxWNup1 if you don't want to mess with the archives in full. It does a pretty good job of getting you up to speed in a hurry. Well, a hurry compared to the archives in full. ++Beneath your fighter, the English countryside slides serenely by- You've adopted a more-or-less north-easterly course, tying on with Wattisham's tower. The controller there laughed when you identified your home plate, sympathizing with the difficulties of air traffic control coming out of the castle. He's a nice enough sort, you figure, though he's stuck you at angels fifteen and not given you a whole lot of leeway for anything other than straight and level flight. According to him, it's business as usual- you'd need to be outside controlled airspace, like out over the north sea, to get crazy. You're almost tempted to ask for a route out, too. So far you've been busy enough just running through the usual checks, but everything appears to be working nearly flawlessly. Not that you honestly expected anything less. The fighter, though, seems to want to cut loose- and you can well understand the feeling. 1/3 ( I think, spacing is funny here)
In the back, Merlin's been quiet- only speaking up when she needed you to do something- though she's linked one of your MFDs to her display in back, allowing you to follow her as she works through the wyvern's powerful sensor suite and weapons computer. Even now, she's 'playing' with birds, using the detection gear in the fighter to paint single birds- gulls, you think, mostly- and track them briefly, before cycling onto a set of new targets. The fact that she's able to do so as quickly as she is impresses you, and, you think, should scare the hell out of anyone else. Birds are a hell of a lot smaller and harder to detect than fighter aircraft, let alone anything bigger. Personally, though, you're appreciating the new canopy and HUD the most. Fact was, you were never wholly comfortable with the old one- if you'd taken a bad hit or lost the computer, you'd have been almost totally blind. At least this way, you can see through the canopy, even if you do lose the HUD and your cockpit display systems. 23 (sorry about the size here. like I said, spacing was bad)
There's a host of other little improvements, too. The problem is, you haven't been able to really try out the new turbines at all though- even with a lot of the peacetime rule of flight restrictions waived in light of wartime necessity, the airspace over this part of the isles is pretty strictly controlled and too crowded, at any rate, for the free flying you'd like to do. You're pretty sure the north sea is uncontrolled, and you've heard Rosalie can get you cleared into the air over Normandy, both of which have their ups and downs. Out over the north sea, if something goes wrong, you're on you're own- but the air is also pretty quiet there, no one really likes flying over a body of frigid water where the weather can change from calm to stormy in a matter of minutes. Normandy, on the other hand, would be a little more crowded- certainly more so once you got over it- but there's plenty of assistance and airbases in the area, just, you know, in case. Request a vector out to the North sea- you'd rather have plenty of air. Have Merlin get hold of Rosalie and see if she can get you into Norman airspace. You'd rather have help on hand.

[x] Have Merlin get hold of Rosalie and see if she can get you into Norman airspace. You'd rather have help on hand. Tired of the quiet- and the relatively boring task of flying straight and level- You finally open up the intercom. “Hey Merlin.” “Y-yes?” She asks, sounding surprised. You chuckle. “See if you can get Rosalie and take her up on her offer to get into the airspace over Normandy. I'll get a vector out from Wattisham.” “Ok, O-one second.” She says. Under a minute later, Rosalie's voice filters through your helmet speakers. “Frank? Merlin tells me you want cleared into the airspace over Normandie?” She says, her accent coming through clearly when she says Normandy. “Yeah, this straight and level and slow isn't getting anything done here.” You say. “S-speak for yourself. I'm getting lots d-done.” Merlin quips from the back. Rosalie laughs. “One moment. I have to call the ADA commander in the area, but he is an old family friend, and owes me a favor.”True to her word, a minute later, she's back on your headset. “Ok, Frank? You're good. Here, let me give you your transponder settings, read them back to me, ok?” It only takes a few minutes to set up for the flight- the French air force and army are both extremely paranoid about aircraft over their country- but at the same time, you can't really blame them. France has been playing host to the vast majority of the NATO supply and support structure, despite past grievances with the alliance. While it's not vulnerable by any means, an attack here could see the war moving into eastern France- the last thing the French people want. 1/2
Still, on the way over the channel, you're inspected by a pair of brand new Rafale fighters, then directed into the air over upper Normandy. Once there, your escorts peel off- directed somewhere else by ground control. Rosalie's voice flits back over your headset. “Frank, you're in what we're calling class B airspace. Ground control will leave you alone unless there's an emergency, but be sure to listen if they say something, yes? There is an english translator on hand, they've been notified who you are.” “Thanks Rosalie.” You respond, looking down at the pastoral landscape below. Mostly farms, it looks like. “Of course.” She says. “You may have some visitors, though. There are more than a few people who wish to claim to have flown with the eagle himself, oui?” She laughs. “Oh, so that's what they're calling me now?” You ask, leveling out at fifteen thousand feet. She laughs again. “They have many names for you, that one seems to be the most common, though. Jean-Luc insists upon calling you la morte blanche, but I disagree with that. If anything, you are the silver death, non?”“Or something.” You agree. “I will leave you to your flight, Frank.” She says, after a second. “If you need me, contact ground control, I will be available.”“Thanks, Rosalie.” “S-So what are we going to do over Normandy, Frank?” Merlin asks. “Everything we couldn't over Britain.” You say with a grin. Let's test out our jets, first. See how they develop power and how fast they can push us in level flight. Let's do some acrobatics first. I need to know if she handles any differently

[x] Let's test out our jets, first. See how they develop power and how fast they can push us in level flight.“Alright, let's test these new engines of yours, Merlin.” You say, settling yourself back in your seat a bit. “O-ok. And Frank? T-they don't get more demanding when you need to use mil power. You don't have to warn me when you speed us up.” She says. “Ok, got it.” You say, nodding, then blinking. “Wait, was that a thing?” “Y-yeah. It was one of the problems with the earlier hybrids.” She says. “I think we're going to have to talk about this on the ground.” You say, laughing. “Let's try these out.” You're hesitant to just shove the throttles forward to the stops, and you opt for advancing it more slowly, noting that the response is excellent and linear- just as you'd expect- and that you're approaching the speed of sound easily at even a fairly low setting. The wyvern shudders as it changes configuration automatically, the wings folding in and the tailerons folding down, streamlining it down for high speed flight. 1/2
>>30176616Sometimes I think that the Demon Lord is either Razgriz or Mobius 1
You easily punch through the sound barrier, noting that the wyvern, which is usually a bit of a handful, especially at speeds, is more tame, requiring less effort on keeping it straight and level. Improvements to the flight computer, most likely, you think, keeping one eye on the airspeed indicator. “So what should we top out at?” You ask Merlin, almost conversationally, making a gentle turn to try and maintain airspeed while setting yourself up for a return run down the air you just covered. “Um... W-well, it should be around mach two point nine.” Merlin says. “I think. K-kenji and I did the math on it, a-and sent it in, but we're not sure it was right. Mister Wold thinks we were estimating a bit low, and we should top out a-around mach three point two.” You whistle. “That's.... wow. Really?” “W-well, he thinks so. We're not as s-sure. The wyvern was never m-meant for speed like that, b-but we think if it can go that fast, it c-can handle it.” “Well, let's find out.” “Let's not test our luck.”

[x] “Let's not test our luck.”“Well, let's not test our luck anyway.” You say, glancing at your airspeed indicator again and noting you're already at mach 2.6 and still climbing- even though you just now cracked into the afterburner range. “T-that's probably a good idea.” Merlin says. “We're ok r-right now, but we s-should probably save the crazy stuff for later.”“Sounds like a plan, kiddo.” Still, you let the fighter creep up right on the mach 2.9 mark, noting that the fighter would still be accelerating if you hadn't dropped the throttles back to cruise and done a few slow S-turns to bleed some speed. Dropping back down below mach, you start a turn to the north, adopting a track that, if you hold it, will take you out over Dieppe and the English channel. “So how are we looking?” You ask merlin, noting that everything, according to your instruments, looks fine. “We're good.” She says, sounding pleased. “N-no problems, not even minor ones. A second later, Merlin starts working her magic, and their airspeed, altitude, and relative heading are all given- they're at angels ten and maintaining a cruising speed. If they've seen you, they're not acting like it- or they simply don't care. >>30178118 “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”LETS NOT GUYS
>>30178118>[x] “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”Ghost pls stop baiting the mouthbreathers with the stupid
There is no question. Only bouncing.>Being witch is suffering
>>30178118>[x] “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”no fun to bounce in the daylight
>>30178118>[x] “Off the leash, huh? Well, then, let's let her play.”
>>30178415ok thats it change >>30178432 to BOUNCE
>>30178118 “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”nope
>>30178118> “Off the leash, huh? Well, then, let's let her play.”She is becoming sentinent.Do we need to name her?
>>30178118[X] “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”Hold the crazy until we're clear of witch country.
>>30178495Her name is Wendy.
>>30178495Nah, the Wyvern has a name. It's the Wyvern.
>>30178118> “Off the leash, huh? Well, then. let's let her play.”
>>30178531OFF WITH HIS HEAD!
>>30178118> “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”Let's not bounce any witches during wartime, folks. They might get off a lucky (unlucky for Frank and Merlin) shot if we spook them.
>>30178518>>30178531Wendy Wyvern fits.
>>30178118[x] “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”Might even want to call 'em up. They probably have no idea we're up here.
>>30178541It happened all the time in ww2 too, though.
>>30178547Oooh, alliterative. I like it. That's like 2x sexy
>>30178541This. For God's sake people, this is "Fuck off!" levels of stupid.>>30178572That is a horrible excuse.
>>30178572It was a bad idea back then, too. And Ghost has shown plenty of times he'll fuck us over if we fuck off too much. I doubt it'll actually happen, but its still a bad idea.
>>30178571Over open comms: "I see London, I see France, I see witchy underpants."
>>30178118>[x] “Off the leash, huh? Well, then, let's let her play.”Guns only, babies.
>>30178118Bounce!Maybe we'll be lucky and it's PILOT witch.
>>30178118[X] “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”We can go crazy on unsuspecting Russians and later, Aliums.
I'm normally all for letting loose in the sky, but right now there are several old hags ogling Frank and Merlin. Give them nothing.
>[x] “Off the leash, huh? Well, then, let's let her play."
>>30178648THISEven if we don't bounce them, let's at least try to get a couple gun-camera/targeting radar shots for fun.
>>30178378For multiple reasons, too.Do y'all think she's going to be fine with us ignoring her? How do you plan to deal with that?
>>30178118GHOOOOST stop the samefagging
> “Off the leash, huh? Well, then, let's let her play.”FUCK BITCHES, BOUNCE WITCHES.
>>30178685So we should bounce these witches and then name our Wyvern "Matron" in dedication to our favorite old hags.
>>30178118> “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”we gave 'em our word. we can dance at a later time.
>>30178648>"Designating Bogies STRIPES and LACY"
>>30178118>[x] “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go."
>>30178804Being witch is suffering. Being Gnome is glory.
>>30178713Merlin told us that the plane told us to do it.I mean, honestly, yeah, Ghost could fuck us real good with this option, but hopefully, he won't, especially since I'm pretty sure most of us in the "let's do it" camp just want to just cut loose a little and have some fun after all this tight-laced "let's be serious shit". What have we done so far, really? We did a couple high speed laps over Normandy. That's pretty dull. The plane wants a little action, we want a little action, let's have some fun.And teach witches a valuable lesson about flying in an airspace without clear IFF, even a friendly sky.
“Off the leash, huh? Well, then, let's let her play.”
>>30178118>[x] “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”I'm actually hoping that there's serious consequences for this. Something that Nixon can't fix for us.
>>30178876for all we know, those witches might in fact might be our russian stalker....
>>30178118> “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”Would be nice to keep our promise to Slider and not piss her off. She acts tough, but we said we would take it easy. She was so worried that she slipped up when we teased her about standing in as our "girlfriend".All that aside, let's not make it easy for bad things to happen, and get Merlin taken away from us. We need things to go well while we are under scrutiny.
>>30178920Merlin gets shot by friendly fire.
>>30178713>>30178378>>30178876On a related note, Frank needs to start practicing a martial art, preferably one of those styles engineered around disabling or evading people who are stronger than you. Maybe get some Judo in, or something.
>>30178953You. I do not like you.
>>30178953Yeah! Something like that! Preferably with her losing consciousness, causing most of the systems of the Wyvern to fail and causing us to crash.
>>30178953Considering that three dreadnaughts worth of flak and whole squadrons of soviet elites couldnt touch yes...yea, good luck with that.
>>30178945>We need things to go well while we are under scrutiny.People seem to love forgetting this point right now.
>>30178991Or he could get robo arms. Nothing like several hundred PSI to a body to drop them.
We are at an impasse here.> Fire our sidearm into the air.
>>30179047B-but bounciing! /sarcasm
>>30178953>>30178920I can't claim to know where Ghost wants the story to go, but keep in mind, this isn't a magical 100% sandbox. It'd be silly to have extreme GRIMDARK repercussions for us to fuck around and pull pranks like we would do (and did do) in the early days of the quest. Maybe some thing relatively minor but punctuated to show that the atmosphere has changed and be poignant and shit but permanent srs bzns trouble is counter productive, and would be overblown. >>30179047Are we under scrutiny right this second, though? >>30179054Can we jump-start the invention of the Taser by some years? I mean, that'd really work out just as well without needing new arms.
>>30178118 “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”
>>30179047>People seem to love forgetting this point right now.Yup. If things get screwed up, Merlin will likely get taken from us, regardless of what Nixon and Ice do. That would destroy Merlin. We could also get yanked from the squadron so the matrons can examine us in all sorts of boring ways that have nothing to do with flying, and we really, really, really don't want that.
>>30179077>Are we under scrutiny right this second, though? As long as we're based in that castle, yes. Every time we go into the air, everything we say or do. Anything and everything.
>>30179073*bouncing Also: >>30179093Are you guys seriously willing to give Merlin up for some asinine decision?
>>30179077>Are we under scrutiny right this second, though? We are under HEAVY scrutiny until we are not stationed at Barin. It's why all the matrons and witches are coming to see us, after all. There's really nowhere to hide.We do not want to be here a day longer than we have to. Mucking around and pulling stunts will assure we stay, perhaps permanently.
>>30179093Oh god something monumentally stupid is about to happen isn't it?
Why is Merlin still stuttering? She is in healthy relationship with a boy her age, the person she hero worships is fine and dandy, and her parents are damned proud of her. What possible reason could she still have for a lack of confidence?
>>30179139Frank still won't give her the dick.
>>30179139ya its starting to get old now
>>30179077>Are we under scrutiny right this second, though? We're in a prototype superfighter with a dangerous combo of pilot/RIO that's been doing crazy shit that nobody else has done before.I guar-ran-fucking-tee it that every time we go up we're being watched by every pair of eyes/radar set/chase plane they can find, even if the stealth and speed means they can't get much. And even then, they're going to pull our Black Box as soon as we touch down. If they don't know about it now, they will immediately afterwards. Unless you think tampering with a black box to alter the data is a good idea.
>>30179135Take a good at some of these votes and you tell me.
>>30179135And all because of samefags.
>>30178118> “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”STAHP
>>30179093Then we will BOUNCE ALL THE WITCHES until we get Merlin back. Or defect to Russia and become Putin's Darth Vader or something.
If we give them the data they want now then we can get back out and fight the war that's going on.
>>30179135And this is why you don't press the big red button
>>30179139>What possible reason could she still have for a lack of confidence? She has all sorts of flashbacks to us nearly dying, yes? That might explain a lot.Merlin has a lot of emotional issues regarding us that she has not dealt with, and we have been unable to do anything about them.
>>30179104Okay, so, well, then, if that's literally true cat's already out of the bag because Merlin told us that she detected Witches with her new witch-finding thing, which we told no one about. That's way worse than us pranking a couple of witches who are flying around not displaying proper IFF that we can't ID them as anything other than "Bogeys". >>30179133We're testing the plane.>>30179159As noted, above, then we're already fucked. And that was Ghost, not a decision by posters.
>>30179181we said we would become a merc pilot
>>30179178>defect to Russia to become Putin's Darth VaderCan we get Ice to rule at our side?
>>30179178>have RIO reassigned>commit high treason because of itWhy don't we take all the schematics and manuals for the Wyvern with us when we go?look, I know Merlin means a lot to Frank, but that's BEYOND overreacting.
>>30179204. . . Well at least we aren't likely to die, that's about the only good thing I can say right now. .
>>30179204>We're testing the plane.Yes, we are testing the plane, but that's not really why there's such intense scrutiny of us. We've tested stuff before. There's intense scrutiny of us because of what we keep doing with Merlin. Truth be told, the matrons and witches don't give a damn about our plane. They are watching US.
>>30179135Welcome to Barin Castle. Here be witches.Leave your wings at the door and keep your Rape Whistle on your person at all times. Cougar attacks are highly unlikely unless provoked. The white zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of steelwings only. There is no stopping in the red zone.
>>30179204And if we're not already fucked, we have EVEN less to worry about, because we detected a couple of witches without IFF flying around, completely legit, and decided to run the plane through it's paces.I mean, jesus christ guys, the fuck do you get your enjoyment out of this quest? Do you have some secret repressed desire to be calm and by the book that you're not able to express in your normal life?
> “Off the leash, huh? Well, then, let's let her play.”Really? Slider said no crazy shit, she didn't say 'don't get involved in a fairly safe bouncing operation'.Christ, she doesn't want Battle of Berlin style stuff, I'm sure she'll allow us just once to manuver in a non straight and level fashion.Ghost isn't going to be monkey-pawing us guys, don't be so parinoid.
>>30179276GHOST WILL DO THAT!
>>30179236No. No it's not. They take Merlin with us, we deliver victory unto Putin.
>>30179276>in a fairly safe bouncing operationThere is no such thing as a safe bounce. It's the reason why bouncing is so much fun.
>>30179236It's fucking Putin, man. Just look at him. He's 10/10 waifu material. I'm surprised we haven't defected to him already.
>>30179276Your tempting it thought.
>>30179253Yeah? Actually wouldn't us acting like a perfectly normal pilot and buzzing a couple of witches make them less interested in us.We don't have to become the god of the sky to bounce witches. And I think I'd be very disappointed in Ghost if we go full IMPOSSIBLE FLYING just to prank some witches, assuming that option does come out ahead. We're cutting loose a little, having some fun. It's a psychological outlet to all the pressure we're under on a daily basis. We have to do something to relax and have some fun, or we're gonna crack at a bad time.
>>30179304That is still treason.
>>30178118So what's the vote count, not going to try and guess but did being stupid win this one?
>>30179319That's "you're" and just because it could go horribly wrong, (even though it probably shouldn't) is no reason to discard it completely out right. If we never tried anything even if it had a slight chance of risk, this quest would have ended before it began, because we never would have gone though the Navy Aviation training. Let alone done ANY of the shit we've done in the past, good and bad ideas.
>>30179409Because of same fagging.
>>30179409Your face is being stupid.
everyone is dildos!
>>30179349>acting like a perfectly normal pilot and buzzing a couple of witches make them less interested in us.No, because it gives them an excuse to take Merlin away from the idiot pilot who does things like bouncing pranks. We don't need to give them more reasons to separate us from the squadron or each other. I think it was mentioned they already wanted to take Merlin (and maybe us?) from the squadron previously.
>>30179422We're under intense scrutiny on this one though. On a experimental plane! We did the same shit in California and look where that got us.
Instead of arguing amongst ourselves why don't we discuss the more important issue? The plane's apparent sentience.
>>30179349>Yeah? Actually wouldn't us acting like a perfectly normal pilot and buzzing a couple of witches make them less interested in us.Here's the thing, mate. That? That's not perfectly normal. It's rare. PILOTS DON'T DO THAT NORMALLY. The only pilots Frank has "bounced" have been members of his own squadron. He's never done it to sparkles just flying around. And Young? Don't you remember the second thread? Frank Luke decked us and shook the shit out of us for just *suspecting us* of doing it. He even said it thusly: "Bounce the Navy, bounce the Limeys, Bounce the fucking MARTIANS once in a while, like you're supposed too, you layabout FUCK, but for FUCKS SAKE, never, ever, EVER bounce a WITCH!" The Major punctuates each statement with a vigorous shake that rattles your brain around your skull quite nicely. "It's a political landmine, and when all that shit comes back to earth, guess who's fucking desk it lands on!?"The pilots /tg/ plays are the aberrations. They are by NO means the norm. Don't assume they are.
>>30179429>implying>>30179409Quit your whinging. There's being sensible, and then there's just being excessively risk averse.
>>30179366Considering men have defected for less, I think you can take your "B-but that's treason!" and shove it up your ass. >>30179429"Baaaaw something didn't go my way I need to bitch and call everyone faggots!" Sack the fuck up, you pussy.
>>30179492I think you're grossly overestimating the effect a simple bounce'll have.>>30179499The situations are nothing alike.
>>30179538>completing the sceneHe's silent. You stare at him, disoriented, until you realize he wants an answer."Yo-""YOURS, MOTHERFUCKER," he roars with impressive volume, two inches from your nose. "BECAUSE YOU'LL BE MY FUCKING FILE CLERK AND FLY A FUCKING TYPEWRITER FOR THE REST OF THIS WAR if you ever get caught doing that, you hear me, asshole?" That sound like something every pilot likes to do for kicks?
Rolled 1 + 6>>30179596...yes?
>>30179578Frank's family won't be happy about the defection. Nixon will take it as a personal betrayal, knowing him.
>>30179596Sounds like something every PC Pilot likes to do for kicks.Stop being pussies before you get bounced next.
>>30179543This is being sensiable, we're in an experimental plane and knowing that we don't know it's full power your risking the lives of unknowing witches for a few minuets of shits and giggles/Which normally would remove the wings off any pilot under any under circumsances, Not to mention that the Matrons are looking for one single excuse to take his wings.we have other ways of testing
[x] “I promised Slider to dial back on the crazy, we'll let them go.”You sigh, looking down at the two specks in the distance. You've got height, airspeed, and the element of surprise... and you promised Slider you'd behave, at least for now. Still, just because you promised her you'd behave doesn't mean you can't have a little fun. You slowly start to accelerate, working to keep the few, scattered clouds between them and you. Merlin's sensor- which doesn't have a name yet, and really needs one- is indispensable for this kind of work, allowing you to track both of them, even through the clouds, without any trouble at all. “F-frank what are we- uwah!” Merlin gets out, before you flip the fighter inverted in a vicious snap roll and begin to drop from the sky, keeping one eye glued to the airspeed indicator and the other to the altimeter. You begin to arrest the descent about a thousand feet above the witches- how they can't hear you is beyond all belief. Must be preoccupied, you think, thanking your patron saint, whoever that it, for small favors. Finally, you realize you can't get much closer than you already are- you're already probably pushing it with just a few hundred yards of separation between yourself and the two of them. You switch your radio set to an outbound, clear frequency, noting that the striker's identifying marks make them out as a pair of Americans. 1/2
>>30179583In a experimental plane, we're going to fuck something up if not the plane but the witchs.
We move on now guys, we fine, we didnae bounce em.
“I see London,” you begin, trying not to laugh. “I see France. I see witchy underpants.” Both of the witches look around- it doesn't take them long to spot you, their eyes both going wide in shock. “How-who-what?” One gets out, rapid fire, the surprise still firmly rooted in her brain. “Ladies, you know, you really shouldn't be alone out here.” You say, rolling back over and climbing away. “You never know what could happen.”“Who the hell do you think you are?” One demands- her accent marking her as being from the west coast. “What the hell do you think you're doing?”“Marissa I think-” the other says- over their squadron frequency you look up into the mirror on the canopy frame in time to catch Merlin's eye- she smiles and shrugs. “Not now.” The first witch- Marissa- says. “So who the hell are you anyway, hotshot? Who's your Commanding officer? I'm going to make damn sure he hears about this.”“She's not real up to speed if she doesn't know who we are.” You remark to Merlin. “S-she can only see the front of us and we're in low-speed.” Merlin says. “She might think we're in a F/A-23 or something. Maybe we should tell her?” “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.” “Yeah, probably.”
>>30179578Oh, I'm sure Frank's family with its history rich with service to the United States would just be a-okay with him defecting to a foreign nation currently at war with the United States which had just been repulsed from American soil because he was mad at a personnel transfer.oh wait no that's retarded, it'll probably be something more lik FEELING BETRAYED ON A LEVEL THEY DIDN'T KNOW WAS FUCKING POSSIBLE.
>>30179698>[x] “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”
Rolled 10 + 6>>30179698> “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”huehuehuehue

>>30179698> “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”Why not come up and find out.
>>30179499We did a lot of shit in California, you'll have to be specific. I'm gonna go ahead and guess and say though that wasn't that because we /weren't/ in our experimental superplane?>>30179492Here's the thing. If they could actually just take Merlin away, they would have done it already. They've been leaning pretty heavily, and everyone in our chain of command on the Navy side seems to be against it. And I think it's been clearly established they want to examine the both of us together now, which they're not gonna get if they pull us from duty. We'll quit, and what the fuck are they gonna do, witch black-bag us? Though maybe that hasn't been made clear to them.>>30179538Cultural Osmosis?>>30179641Again, see above, how does the Matrons getting our wings taken help them? I mean, shit, Merlin's a minor. Magic's cool and awesome, but this is the 90s. She calls it quits they gonna black bag her too? Being frightened of tyrants is one of the things that gives them power over you. Tell the matrons to fuck off, what can they do? I mean, we're pre-Internet, but still. We're a war hero. Give us a TV camera, watch public opinion swing.
>>30179698>“I see London,” you begin, trying not to laugh. “I see France. I see witchy underpants.” Sides. Orbit.> "Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out."

>>30179698> “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”Thank christ that didn't end horribly
>>30179698> “Yeah, probably.”
gun it flip around then fly between them. that should give them enough time to figure out who we are.
>>30179698>[x] “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”I mean, we're having fun, taking it easy either way. Let's get some more laughs out of it at least.
>>30179698> “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”Yeah, this thing doesn't really look like a Black Widow II.
>>30179776Probably only because you guys whined so much about it being a terrible idea and Ghost felt bad for your poor hearts, not being able to take it.
>>30179698>[x] “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”I think that will answer the witch's question in a very simple way that will make her feel a little silly.See, without screwing around and bouncing, we still got to have our fun, and stay clean.
>>30179810>implying I voted for the BOUNCE option
>>30179698[x] “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”Click on the radio. "My CO? Admiral Richard M. Nixon. I'm sure he'd be THRILLED to you girls interrupting his valuable time with this."
>>30179698>[x] “Yeah, probably.”
>>30179698[X] “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”
>>30179641Not risking anyone's lives. We're popping in behind them and saying 'hi'. They're surprised, we laugh, we go back to what we were doing. We know the plane well enough, particularly with Merlin. Nobodies going to care over something so trivial, friendly navies do it to each other all the time on border areas.
>>30179832No, I'm implying you didn't. Only the people voting "No Bounce" were giant pussies about it.Don't try and act all cool about it now, homes, read those posts back and tell me some posters don't sound like their quaking in their little boots.

>>30179895perhaps the way they expressed their reasoning was a bit whiny, but it doesn't change the fact that the underlying thought was sound. The people accusing others of samefagging the vote are a different case, though

Guys. We good now. We got our kicks teasing witches for being inattentive in a non-bouncy way.Move on. Go lewd some Ghosts or Merlins or whatever it is you anons do while you wait.
>>30179974They would know. They're USAF or Navy and chain of command doesnt work that way.

This feels so nostalgic, with the shitstorms and the flaming and the samefagging. It's been so long.

[x] “Nah, I'll overfly and let her figure it out.”“Nah,” You say, still over the intercom. “I'll just overfly and let her figure it out.”You start to accelerate- neither of the witches makes any move to match you, until they figure out you're closing, then both of them speed up as well. Still, your enhanced turbofans generate thrust on a whole different level than even the best strikers- despite their advantage in acceleration due to that phenomenal power to weight ratio, you're able to overtake them and blow by before hitting mach. You don't hear their chatter- Merlin stopped monitoring their radio channel almost as soon as you started pushing the throttles forward- but you can see the two of them talking as you climb out. This low altitude shit is fine for witches, but it plays merry hell with your fuel consumption, and your high speed trials didn't exactly help. You're not critically low, not yet, but it's getting time to head back. Those few hours tooling around the air near Barin didn't help, either, but then again, in a more conventional fighter, you'd be way low on fuel right now. You note that the witches are trailing behind you a few dozen miles- but they're more or less matching your heading. You suppose you shouldn't be surprised at that- though the addition of a Marissa will put the 'issa' count on the base at danger high levels. 1/2
Barin's runway proves to be a bit of a hairy proposition, though. It's narrow and too short- you have to come in a lot slower than you're comfortable with, and you try to line up way out- you don't want to land on this thing even slightly off center. Fortunately, you're able to pull it off without too much of a hitch- your fighter touching down almost exactly centered on the runway. You quickly deploy the braking chute and chop the engines to idle, deploying the air brakes at the same time. It's a harsher deceleration than you'd like, but it works, allowing you to taxi into your designated spot on the tarmac easily. Merlin takes care of the housekeeping- manually setting the wings and tails to their folded, high-speed configuration and shutting down her end of the bird- yours is mostly already done by the time you're on the ground, honestly. You have some tasks, of course, but for the most part, all you do is double check Merlin's work- which never needs done anyway- and hit the canopy release.2/3 (oops, spacing. again. sorry)
Down on the pavement below, Kenji waits next to Slider. You almost wonder what they were talking about- though you do get a good look at how Kenji looks up at Merlin when you hit the canopy release. He's reserved enough to not break into a full smile, but you can see it. Maybe the kid actually will be good for her?Following tradition, you're down first, and help Merlin off the ladder. She gives you a quick hug before giving a far longer one to Kenji. “A-are we done f-for the day, Frank?”You shrug and look over at Slider, who nods. “As far as I know, you're done for today.” She says. You watch the two of them walk off- holding hands! You're about to say something- maybe a bit mean spirited, when Slider kisses you on the cheek. “That's for keeping your promise. Thanks Frank.” She says. “That's a bit out of character.” You say, trying to keep your brain from going into a terminal spin. She shrugs. “I'm full of surprises.”Oh, really? You wonder at that.
>>30181717>No prompt[To be continued intensifies]
>>30181717We should probably explain to her and everyone we gently spooked a couple of witches not doing a good enough job identifying themselves before they get here and start telling yarns about brash but dashing steelwing pilots nearly scaring them out of their undies.
>>30181717>when Slider kisses you on the cheekTRULY IT WAS ALL WORTH IT
And that's it for tonight. I'd planned more, but I just had a bunch of friends show up with beer and maple syrup. apparently we're supposed to pour the syrup on the snow, then scoop it up with a stick and eat it? IDK, apparently it's a northern thing. Anyway, normally I'd tell them to bugger off, but it's 0041 local, and this happens like... once every five years here, so... Anyway, I hope everyone enjoyed the run- we'd have covered more, but I'll try to run long next week to make up for the missed stuff today. Sorry again about that. Anyway, guys, till next week! Cheers. now I'm off for beer and syrup. I feel like I should be adding 'eh to the end of my sentences, haha!no offense canadabros. You guys are good guys, especially the maroon goons. even if molsen is overrated. (no, I won't take a penalty shot for that)
>>30181791If we see or here about them we best refer to them as Stripes and Laces.
>>30181808Inb4 they give you yellow snow ghost.Smell before you actually bite into eat.

>>30181880My friend in Winston already has a half day tomorrow and his office is already closed Thursday haha. When I lived down there, things would go chaotic for like 3 inches of snow...can't imagine how it'll be with this much
Rolled 19 + 6>>30181880Think maybe we can have another thread due to your wintery conditions?
Next few days are gonna suuuuuuck. I'm like 20 minutes north of Winston. I should have gotten groceries earlier.
>>30181955Heh, another friend of mine probably plows your roads. You in the Rural Hall areal, or even further north?I miss living in the south ;_;
>>30181997I'm ten miles up the road from Rural Hall, between King and Pilot Mountain.
>>30181717>You watch the two of them walk off- holding hands! You're about to say something- maybe a bit mean spirited, when Slider kisses you on the cheekLEWDNESS! EVERYWHERE!thanks ghost!
>>30181955I'm up in Roanoke, VA. this kind of bad weather is worsened being up in the mountains.
>>30181808You could always use the syrup to candy bacon.
>>30181906Man, I've been unable to go get groceries for whatever reason a bunch of times. Why is it always friggin' bread and milk?>>30182029>>30182109"Luckily" for me, I live up near Philly now, so we're at least somewhat used to the snow. I say somewhat because we haven't seen nearly this much since...at least '08 or thereabouts
All these NC bros. I don't feel so left out now.
>>30182287At least it's motivating me to get a new job down there
Reserved shenanigans best shenanigansHornet alive? I'm ready for feels and it's only four in the afternoon.
>>30182114you are my new hero. this is best idea.
>>30182287Sometimes it feels like there's no one in this state who even knows what the Internet is beyond Wikipedia. Sentiment echoed.
>>30182354No feels today. Sorry!
>>30183349That's cold. Real cold, man.
>>30183349You made me wait an hour for nothing. Cold as ice water, dude

>>30183531Yeah, I was playing WALB with the boys, and got distracted from the thread. I'd have responded earlier!
>>30183555I was kidding. I was honestly watching anime anyways, just had the thread open
>>30183555Aw man I missed opportunities for Wargame?
>>30183555>>30183608Also, is Wargame that good? I've seen it mentioned occasionally, but have yet to avail myself of the opportunity to purchase it
>>30183638Depends on who you ask.
>>30183608Yeah just a quick comp stomp. I am TURRIBLE at playing against players.>>30183638Wargame's fun. It has pretenses towards REALISM, but it's definitely balanced more towards fun than realism. Also, according to WALB, the USMC flew the F-14 Tomcat, and therefore Ghost says the game is shit (in addition to having a turrible campaign and cheating AI). I'm just tickled that the developers have left that in for as long as they have.
>>30183724No, no. the F-14 i'm fine with. I'm pissed at the cheating ass AI and shittastical campaign.
>>30183638SADF > AngolaIf you like Real-Time Strategy/Tactics, you'll probably like this game. It's all about massive, large scale combat of regiment vs regiment, division vs division, or even front vs front. My computer can't handle andything bigger than 3v3, and it gets MUCH bigger than that.
>>30183811Oh man, I have two 780s in my machine, and it was screaming for mercy on a 10 v 10 server.
>>30183811>>30183724doesn't it have something to do with like...cards or something?
>>30183867It's a deckbuilding RTS. You have a "deck" of unit cards, which translate to various numbers and qualities of units in the actual game, which is an RTS based around supply points. No base-building.
>>30183811I just gotta say, Bradleys fucking rape face in WALB. The M3A1s in particular take down 10+ guys in a game, with some particularly badass ones getting almost 30.
>>30183926>no base buildingFUCKINGSOLDThere are some RTS games where the base building ain't bad...even fun, but there are many others where it's a fucking nightmare
>>30183959Yeah, the closest you get to base building is positioning any FOBs you have which acts as a resupply point for your troops.
>>30183975Heh, now I feel pretty stupid for not taking advantage of that sale earlier this week...or was it last week?
>>30183936I have a US Army Mechdeck which is nearly entirely BradleysEat TOW, commie scum!Really like doing games where we set limits on ourselves, though. Screenshot was the aftermath of an "African Rebels" game, where we used units that would be available to Small African Nations.
>>30184214I've only really started getting into the game, but now I'm starting to get curious of stuff outside of my usual US only comfort zone. I wanna try a West German deck next. The sheer variety of units in the game is very condusive to experimentation.
