You were once a magical girl, but have now ended up having to hunt down your former comrades. As a member of the Magical Girl Hunter Bureau, it is your job to defend humanity from the Magical Menace!"...what?" You blink at Bruttenholm's words. "What do you mean my future with the Bureau?""It's not a reflection on your performance." Bruttenholm says quickly. "You've done a stellar job so far, and you're our top performing Hunter. The problem is politics.""Figures." You grunt. "What do our mutual bosses want this time?""Well, the issue is that the terms for several of the Security Council members are nearly expired, which means new members have to be elected." Bruttenholm says. "Currently, the majority are in favor of the current status quo, but with the recent... 'criticisms' of our policy from certain media outlets, public opinion seems to be turning against us. Enough that members who are more sympathetic to change can be voted in.""So you want me to lay low until the whole thing blows over?" You frown."Think of it as paid leave!" Bruttenholm grins. As such, I've already given the rest of your squad shore leave for the next two weeks."Well, shit. Without your squad you really couldn't do much in terms of Hunting."You really want me to take time this badly?" You sigh, defeated."Like any good boss, I need to ensure the well being of my subordinates." Bruttenholm grins. "Now, I understand you don't quite desire to be seen in public much, and you have you experience a frighteningly concerning amount of pleasure shooting things, so I can arrange for you to be transferred to one of our support facilities. Let's see..."Bruttenholm takes out a folder and flips through several pages."Aha! Well, there's two choices really. You can either head to our Hunter Training Facility to oversee our training process, or you can go to Invader Wildlife Exploitation Facility. The rangers down there need every hand they can get. You nod absentmindedly. You really couldn't say you and Mirai were particularly close, at least not as close as you were to Jo. However, the both of you did have a shared love for beating in Invader faces. You never did quite find out where she was from, though. She sort of just rolled into your town one day chasing down a particularly nasty Invader which you helped take down. And from there a fun partnership was born. For a while, a least. Finally, you reach the infirmary. As was customary when treating enemy prisoners, there was a pair of heavily armed guards posted at the door. However, they do nothing to stop you as you open the door. You give each of them a respectful nod as you walk in.And there, lying in one of the beds is Mirai. You see she's hooked up to a lot of monitoring equipment, which gave the impression that she was clinging to her life. However, the strong pinging of the heart monitor showed that she was anything but."You know, we were all quite surprised when you brought in a forcefully depowered MG." You hear a familiar voice behind you. "Normally the ones you bring back are in pieces.""Oh, hey Dr. Egan." You say, trying to act unsurprised. "Should've figured you'd be skulking around here."(cont)
>>29811006Dr. Egan was one of the Bureau's chief scientists, considering she was one of the few people in the world who was an expert in Invader and Magical Girl biology. They pretty much become normal humans again.""Well, with the exception of you, yes. But, as a scientist, it's my job to figure out how things work. How does prolonged exposure to magic affect the human body? What happens when it's suddenly taken away? Are there long term effects? Withdrawal symptoms? Magical research is a field still in its infancy, and there's still so much we don't know about MGs and Companions.""Is that why you keep prodding me to bring a Companion back alive?" You sigh."Yes, I've asked three times, and three times you've brought me back a ziploc full of goo." Egan prods you in the ribs with her finger. "No respect for the scientific method.""I'll think about it." You sigh."Uh huh." Egan sounds completely unconvinced."So, what's Mira- I mean- the prisoner's condition?" >>29814499>>29814543You two do realize that other MGs have been captured, right? And that base isn't freaking about how we captured it, right? It really isn't that huge of a development.

>>29814619I believe this is the first one to be convinced otherwise as compared to the others. We may be able to find out the cause of why all the MGs turned against humanity.
>>29814683Yeah. We rolled a 20 when we tried to convince her to stand down. That might mean she could be considering defection.Heck, she might have been considering it all along, but was too afraid of the military and us.
>>29814743Something I was just thinking. As far as we know, ALL the MGs turned against humanity, us being the sole outlier that killed her companion for reasons. This does not sound like a normal talking or convincing, as that would have a defection rate of less than 100%. This suggests mind control of some kind.
>>29814818I actually would argue against ideas that the companions are literally brainwashing the MGs.Think about it like this: there's an obvious alien incursion of one sort or another (even if it's just a bunch of animals), you've been explicitly given powers to fight it by nice(r) aliens, but for some reason the military doesn't like that idea and wants you to give up your powers under threat of death.I'd say one could make the argument that the Magical War was about politics or the military industrial complex or whatever. Now, it might be that the MGs did in fact strike first, but not every conspiracy theorist would believe anyone who says that.
>>29814199You decide to just get some sleep while you can. You DID just run two consecutive missions after all."I'm going to get some shut eye. Leo rolls his eyes."And make sure Egan doesn't do anything shady to me. I still remember the last time I fell asleep around her unsupervised.""As I told you before, I already had approval from Bruttenholm to-""No. You are never allowed to bring creepy sciency things anywhere near me ever again." You scowl before leaning back in your seat and closing your eyes. And then you wake up.Well, not really WAKE up, but you can tell you're in another one of those "lucid dream" you occasionally had. You seem to be a darkened, empty version of the Daedalus' passenger compartment. >>29814901Now that would be a very interpretation of events. But the problem is that even if it was the human military that provoked the war, then why was the defection rate against humanity almost 100%? Because each human is unique and not always relied to make rational decisions, there should be at least more MGs or ex-MGs that side with humanity. It's the almost 100% defection against humanity that I find most interesting.

>>29815024"Defecting against humanity" is only how the military interprets it. The MGs could see the government as corrupt and tyrannical, perhaps even outright quislings to the aliens.I think it's the revelation that there is no mastermind behind the invaders that will drive an MG to defection. It's a matter of if they believe Alice, which Mirai did because she probably always wondered why her old partner would start working with the aliens at all. There being no aliens makes more sense to her than Alice being a quisling.>>29815010>Might as well humor dream-Loki."Thank you for the compliment. I take pride in efficiently hunting your kind down."
>>29815228Well the point I'm saying is that rarely is a group of humans is so unified. There are always outliers. What's interesting is that we are the only apparent outlier, and that under extraordinary circumstances. What did the companions say or do to have almost no one side with the military?
>>29815344...Likely because most magical girls are somewhat reasonable folk and probably tried to listen out their contractors first.Alice was probably the only one who killed hers outright. Even Mirai started with 'but her contractor said' before shorting out. Some form of mind control/suggestion magic is a real possibility.
>>29815010"All right, Loki." You say, deciding to humor little bastard dream-cat. "If you're claiming to be the real thing, then why don't you tell me exactly why you and your buddies decided to get me and all my friends to kill all humans?""Oh, well, things wouldn't be very interesting if I told you right away!" Loki chuckles as he does that stupid cat yawn cats do all the time. "Though it's not as if I have any particular loyalty to brethren now that I'm in this state, but I need to find ways to amuse myself, now don't I?""Uh huh." You glower. "Then why me? You could have had any girl you wanted. Hell, you could have a whole army like the other Companions do, but why did you choose me and only me?""What can I say, I'm a bit of a perfectionist." Loki begins pacing around you. "My fellows only choose what's convenient to themselves. But me? I wanted to find the perfect warrior, not just a simple tool I can use and throw away. Ironically enough, it's probably those same qualities I was looking for that resulted in my demise.""I'm sure." You say, not taking your eyes of Loki for one second. "So did you know from the very beginning? That we'd have to turn against our own kind? Or was that some fucking last minute thing?""Ooops, it looks like time's up!" Loki leaps away. "Maybe I'll answer that next time.""Wait-" You try to step forward. And then your eyes open.(cont)

"Hop in."You and Leo hop into the backseat and the M-ATV rumbles off. You look out the window as the vehicle passes through the Grinder. At first glance, it looked like any other regular military base, with various barracks and administration buildings and all the other support structures you'd expect. In the center was the main training field, where you could see scores of rookies going through physical exercises. Heh, you remember the last time you were here you strung pig guts all over the obstacle course. That was a pretty fun time."Ah, remembering Hog Day?" Leo says. It also felt very... mechanical. Egan explained a lot of the building's functions were automated, so the only personnel you really saw were scientists migrating from one lab to another and many, many, MANY guards. "All right, here's our weapons range." Egan says, leading you into one of the labs. "We of course test our experimental weapons in here, which I'm sure you'd LOVE to try out.""You know me to well, Egan." You say, trying to hide your giddiness.""All right, first up." Egan pulls out a fancy looking pistol. "This here is what we call the Goo Gun. Instead of traditional bullets, it fires gel pellets containing a powerful paralytic. It's designed to be able to absorbed through the skin, and can even penetrate most permeable materials. Is guaranteed to knock a human sized target over for a couple hours. Egan says. "It would very hard to impress the guys if you fire your shot too early."You kind of just stare at Egan for a bit, trying to figure out what she's saying before returning to the task at hand."Alright, firing!" "And we do have some interesting developments."Egan leads you and Leo to another lab. This one looks less sciency and more... arcane, is your best guess. It actually resembles Bruttenholm's office in a lot of respects, what with all the tomes and charts lying among the computers and imaging equipment."First, we have the K9 M-Particle Detector." Egan picks up a pair of goggles. "It measures M-Particle density in the area and translates it into visual data. It's not too precise, and only works in a limited range, but it should be helpful in tracking targets on the move or in the dark."Egan sets the goggles down and picks up a syringe. "This is a serum synthesized from the Companion remains you brought us. Injecting this directly into your blood stream will give you magical abilities for a minute or two. However, it does have some very adverse side effects when it wears off, such as dizziness, nausea, and vomiting for starters. We haven't tested it enough to find long term effects yet."Finally, Egan picks up what looks like an armored gauntlet. "And this is the Shield Breaker. We figured that when a Circle manifests, it temporarily takes on a physical property. The Shield Breaker is designed to bombard the Circle with high frequency sound waves to literally shake it apart. It's not much kinder to non magical things, either. However, the thing is that you have to be in melee range to use it, and it needs to recharge between uses.""So, I can authorize one of these items to be field tested." Egan concludes.>K9 M-Particle Detector>Companion Juice>Shield Breaker
>>29820204>Companion JuiceMAGICAL GIRLS REPRESENT
>>29820204>Companion JuiceDrugs time!Invincible for a minute, or mediocre for a lifetime? Also, who have they been testing it on?
>>29820204>Shield BreakerI rather wait on those long term effects for serum, thanks.
>>29820204>Shield BreakerWe don't really have much to defend ourselves in close combat.
>>29820204>Companion JuiceFuck yes Super Mode is a go!
>>29820204>>Companion JuiceJust in case shit hits the fan.
>>29820204>Shield Breaker"So what you're telling me is that this is a bass cannon? Groovy.">Companion juiceSo that's what they do with Sectiod corpses! Make energy drinks out of them!
>>29820204>Shield BreakerInjecting magic shit into our veins is not a good idea.
>>29820204Shield BreakerCome on its a fucking powerfist
>>29820204>Shield BreakerThis is probably the safest and most useful. We have stalkers to do the leg work of tracking MGs down.
>>29820204>Companion JuicePanic buttons are always good.
>>29820261>>29820265>>29820302>>29820303>>29820305We already have guns that break shields already. They can't seem to stand up to .50 Cal bullets
Maybe we can get Companion Juice next time when they work out the kinks out of it. Especially the after effects which could really screw us over if we are fighting multiple MGs at the same time.
>>29820204>Companion Juice>>29820265It's called a pistol.
>>29820204Shield breaker!Let's modify it to use wubwubwub to break their shields and their eardrums with shitty music all at once
>>29820335The serum doesn't have long term effects tested, and makes us weak after the effects wear off.
>>29820335This is true, but >>29820338 has a better point. We're always facing two or more MGs. A minute or two of magic followed by five minutes of vomiting is a bad idea.
>>29820335Ammo. If we run out of it at least all we have to do is a wait a bit of time for the breaker to recharge.
>>29820204>>Companion Juice>>29820338We'll have a lot more to worry about if we're fighting multiple MGs at once.
>>29820338I'm thinking that once we capture a companion, we can start researching how to knock out the side effects.
>>29820204>Shield BreakerWinners don't use drugs.
>>29820374implying we fight fair
>>29820368So lets leave the serum behind and get a little rat. There's no point in taking something that has risk that can backfire right into our face during combat.
>>29820355>>29820357>>29820360Well I want the game changer, which is the Juice. It becomes a third option instead of picking between 2 horrible choices. My second choice would be >K9 M-Particle DetectorIt would greatly aid us in companion hunting
>>29820204>>Shield Breakerlets not shot up
>>29820374But it's okay if you use drugs to win.
>>29820383>Get a rat>Forgetting that they can depower you whether you want it or not
>>29820396Also I forgot to add that we can use this as an alternative to stalkers if we getting too much bad press
>>29820204 >>Companion Juice
>>29820408It's late for me so...What in gods name does your post have to do with mine? We're not a MG, our little rat is 'dead' so what the fuck is point of your post?
I am pretty sure there is a lot of samefagging because no way do we have so many people following thisMaybe you want to do the 1, 2 or 3 only votes OP?
>>29820435I agree, plus it's getting pretty confusing
>>29820419That's not our job to deal with PR. Our job is hunt down small animals and MGs. And get it done quickly. Stalkers have proven to be highly effect in this regard. There is no point in stopping use of them.
>>29820435Willing to support.
>>29820445I agree with you there but the goggles are useful if we lose the stalkersJust not as useful as space cocaine or dubstep glove
>>29820445With politics being the way it is, I rather not be screwed if restrictions get placed on us.But I rather get the juice, but the detector is good second
>>29820435>Maybe you want to do the 1, 2 or 3 only votes OP?What is this?
>>29820468>I agree with you there but the goggles are useful if we lose the stalkersHopefully with new breed of stalkers they can be trained not to go charging after every MG in the area with reckless abandon.
>>298205045 minute vote window votes link to OPs post and only post 1, 2 or 3 corresponding to the choice you wantIt has been used before just to clear up samefagging / make sure counts are accurate
>>29820504Basically you put only>1or>3As your vote and nothing else. It forces a 5min spam post timer. And you have anything but >1 or >3 in the post (plus OPs post number) your vote doesn't get counted.
>>29820204>Unfortunately, it's too late in the night and I'm way too tired to ask for a revote."Well, I guess this Companion Juice would come in handy for emergencies..." You say, eying the syringe."Good. We have precious little data on human testing." Egan nods."Wait wha-""Moving on, let's go take a look at our little Classified Project, now shall we?"Egan strides out of the lab and you follow her until you reach an elevator guarded by an entire squad of guards and thick, heavy blast doors. Egan goes through a series of bioscans just to unlock and summon the damn thing, and after about five minutes of security checks, you're finally in the elevator as it plummets into the depths of the lab's underground levels."Jeez, you couldn't have made that process a bit more streamlined?" You sigh."All precautions." Egan says. "This specimen is quite possibly our most powerful artificial Invader yet. We don't want anybody coming in to steal or destroy it.""Or risk it getting loose and escaping." Leo says."That too." Egan concedes. "Even though we know how to control artificial Invaders' behavior, the fact that we've made this one more intelligent and self aware means it is inherently unpredictable. No costs were spared in risk mitigation."Finally, the elevator grinds to a halt. The blast doors slide open and you pass through yet another squad of heavily armed guards. Egan goes through another maddening gauntlet of security checks and bioscans before finally, you enter an empty chamber with a single, large cylinder placed in the center.(cont)
>>29820645"And here it is." Egan says, motioning to the cylinder. You cautiously move forward. However, the instincts you honed as a Magical Girl start kicking in. They always did when you got near an Invader, but there were never too bad unless the Invader in question was powerful. And from your heart rate and the pit forming in your stomach, this one was damn powerful. There was also something very different about this one, too.It was humanoid."Alice, Leo, meet Humanoid Invader mk1." Egan says with pride.>And that's it for tonight! Tune in next week for more Magical Girl Hunter Quest! Don't forget PJ Witches and Cyberpunk Idols on Friday and Saturday respectively!
>>29820645>"Good. We have precious little data on human testing." Egan nods.Fucking wonderful.
>>29820645Yes, we got win juice
Hopefully, we won't have to use it.
>>29820682Well there's something I vote we never touch again
>>29820664>"Alice, Leo, meet Humanoid Invader mk1." Egan says with pride. It's not a doggie. It's not fluffy.
>>29820692That's the point, it's the change lose to win juice. Or at least delay lose juice.
>>29820664>It was humanoid.LAME.
>>29820715Either way, we still rely on rolls even after taking it. You know how /tg/ dice gods are.
>>29820715I am hearing "change lose to murder everything then die" juice
>>29820664>humanoidAaaannndd the mgs just found their "mastermind."
>>29820711>It's not a doggie.>It's not fluffy....yet
>>29820664I like the stalkers better.
>>29820739You're making a fucking furry, Merc? The hell is wrong with you.
>>29820664Goddammit, I was expecting something Tyranid.A Warrior or Tyrant would've been cool.
>>29820757Not exactly. You'll just have to wait till next week to find out!
>>29820778>Not exactly.Unless you turn it into a monster girl then it's a furry, Merc. Simple as that.
>>29820793>can'ttakeajoke.jpgNo need to be so upset over this.
>>29820793This. If it was a monster girl, it's okay.Maybe what we're seeing is a suit?
>>29820813Sir, I'm not upset. Simply pointing out facts.Nothing more. Also, CAPTCHA can suck a dick.
>>29820664This actually strikes me as awesome. Sorry that there's so much bitching about it.
>>29821342Kind of wanted a pet.
>>29821348After how the last one turned out?
