For House & Dominion: Home Front Questhttp://houseanddominion.wikia.com/wiki/HouseAndDominion_Wikihttp://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=House%20and%20DominionYou are Sonia Reynard, Attack Wing Leader and Knight of the House of Jerik-Dremine! When you were still out on the front lines you command the Third Attack Wing, one of the elite units of the House, composed of fast hard hitting Cruisers, Frigates and a few remaining Corvettes. For the past several months you've been enjoying your time away from the front lines, seeing family members, friends and taking care of business ventures. Last time you set about increasing security aboard your station in light of recent thefts. The perpetrator responsible for selling expired medical supplies has been jailed. He could be locked up for a very long time as some of the drugs he sold could have lead to death.Funding went through to allow several projects to begin work, from the holo-plex you helped fund to factories that are starting up. Your own munitions plant has begun produsing conventional ammo for chemically propelled ballistic weapons. There are a number of specialty rounds you've been working on as well, some which should be more effective against heavily armored Neeran. Mr London has set about hiring some weapons techs to help in this regard. Until then you've patented the designs and begun to look into other producers that could jointly develop the rounds.Still, that can wait. With production of the first batch of ammo well on it's way you've snagged the first handful of bullets off the line and proceed to a firing range the military maintains. Mr London is wondering if you wanted to have some reporters show up to help mark the plant reaching production status, but is hesitant as you do own it under a holding company so as to remain distant from future splinter ammo production.[ ] Reporters[ ] Better to not be associatedRoll 1d20 to fire off the first rounds.
Rolled 18>>29492055FOR HOUSE AND DOMINION[x] Better to not be associatedYeah, seeing as we're going to be making Splinter rounds in the near future, I imagine that's not something we want tied to our name until we can afford to take the Public Opinion hit.
Rolled 5>>29492055>[X] Better to not be associatedLet's stay away from this, at least in public.Anyway, I've spent way too much time thinking about what kind of present we could give Versa, Eris and the others for their birthday equivalent. Mainly because I enjoyed thinking about what to give somebody who has no use for practically everything you'd usually give.Well, and I had an idea after rereading the (second to?) last thread. You said the AIs choose their own avatars, meaning they're at least somewhat concerned how they appear to others, probably putting at least some thought behind the design they decide upon.Considering that they're entities that learn, make new experiences, and ultimately change, I'd assume they would change their avatars with time, just as organic life changes their clothes, hairstyle, or everything else they can control. So, why not paint their avatars and gift them portraits for their birthdays? I'd guess it's still something special to have one's portrait painted instead of simply having a picture taken, even in the year 4000. Especially when the picture has been painted by a friend.Painting is also supposed to be a rather relaxing hobby, I think, so it might help with Sonia's PTSD as well.
Rolled 5>>29492055>[X] Better to not be associatedStill don't want that being tied to us per say.

FOR HOUSE AND DOMINON!
>>29492055There'll still be a press release in the local news, right? Maybe we could add our endorsement to that."Local Knight satisfied with Surakeh home brand ammo." is a decent PR boost, and if the splinter rounds ever backfire on us, we can say we had no idea of their true intentions.
Was considering it being a 20mm sniper rifle in which case rolls would have been average of 3 since you've still never trained on them.Showing your ID at the desk the attendant slides you a case with a navy carbine and points you to one of the open ranges. Setting the target at 100m you throw on some ear protection, load the magazine then line up using the iron sights. With your eye HUD you wouldn't even need to sight down the weapon if you wanted, a marker would be overlaid on the target like a laser dot.Forget that, you've been using carbines for more than a year and a half. Disabling the targeting assist you put five rounds down range, producing a tight grouping. Only one of them is not in the center ring and it's rather close. Checking and safing the weapon, you police your brass then head back up to the front desk."Everything okay?" asks the attendant."Yep, just trying out some new ammo. None of it caused the weapon to explode in my face. How strong are the backstops here? I heard that the House might be getting some splinter ammo production soon.""Really? Gee, we'll have to reinforce the back wall with more armor just in case. Thanks for the warning. I'll have to update the signs for what ammo types the range can handle.">There'll still be a press release in the local news, right? Are they treated as citizens now?I would say there has been some improved rights and some disruption among the Research community which will likely hinder development of hacking subroutines by the Terrans. Still there's only so much leeway people will allow AI's. The reason Versa has been allowed access to the Factions com networks is to keep an eye out for infiltration attempts by the enemy. So far nothing.Back to business news, last week you entered into a business arrangement with Gene Ó Cléirigh and Sigmundr Klasson to help develop your land on Tourta. Thanks to a meeting with the Baron and the Governors of Surakeh and Tourta House space in the region should be better able to handle the waves of Shallan refugees that have already started to arrive. You've invested some of your personal funds and those of your company to make sure the new prefab apartment blocks go in quickly. In total you've invested 100 million into this scheme, you hope that it will pay off in the long term as those refugees will be looking for jobs and your salvage company could provide some of them. With Nikolov's latest find on her expedition, you'll need those extra workers. A heavy cruiser scale mobile dock yard doesn't crew itself.

If it hadn't the Kavarian's would have been able to remotely hijack the entire Terran Navy a century later with their high end Electronic warfare systems. The Dominion did have a rogue AI incident at one point but it was contained early and crushed, only causing two or three Houses to be wiped out. >Did we ever get a day or two to visit that island with a certain someone on it?Knew there was something I was forgetting on Tourta. so something I noticed among Nikolov's latest haulThe Sydney class was apparently designed to attack heavy ships before SP torps. I wonder if the Faction Alliance has had any success using such ships against the Neerans and their weird bubble shields. The EX-Fusion cannon ship seems to have a similar weapons loadout, if a bit lighter. There doesn't seem to be info on the 'Archie' custom BC.And I'm wondering if Rovinar cruisers ever carry cloaking devices. If so, Winifred's people may want to check out the ship before we turn it in to the Rovinar, as I imagine we'll turn it in for more future favors.

"Do you have any sniper rifles?""What size are you looking for? We have most calibers.""20mm." You're sure that's the kind of rifle Jing Ki was using on Gesaur before being handed the X-ray laser at the end. You've handed a carrying case with the disassembled rifle in it."Here you go. I recommend following the instructions closely, other than that it's pretty basic. Operation isn't that different from the other ones, just make sure you have the recoil dampener set to full on the first try. I'll have one of the guys take a bucket of ammo down for you. If you need help with anything just ask."Getting back down on to range you carefully assemble the weapon and zero the sights. A guy named Dan drops off a bucket with fifty rounds of 20mm ammo and you get to work. The thumb sized rounds tear through the target markers one after another, your aim starting off average and slowly improving. Without the recoil dampener or a suit of power armor this gun would probably break your shoulder after a couple of shots, still you turn down the previous device a bit to get a feel for it.It's unlikely you'd be able to fire this thing with any accuracy while on the move, especially in marine armor. It's too bad the rounds fired by this thing are too fast for a silencer to be of much use. With that taken care of you check the directories for private ballet lessons, eventually finding someone. You're getting marginally better at the intricate and precise movements necessary for ballet and -just barely- avoid performing a face plant on the mats. That's the one thing you wanted to avoid more than anything else. Screwing up repeatedly is only mildly embarrassing compared to that and by the end of it there is some definite improvement. You're still sore but that you know how to deal with that.
April 25, 40241830 hours"Torpedo, brace." warned the ship's XO over the intercom. This time, like the dozen other times the ship had been hit by torpedo fire in the past week, the damage control teams gripped the arms of the restraints and hoped the armor held. A deafening blast hurled them against the padded sides of the jump seats and the distant sound of metal deforming carried through the hull."Hull breach. Damage to the starboard torpedo magazines, damage control teams get that launcher operational.""That's us. Dee Cee ten move it out." Safety restraints are detached and the hatch opened allowing all eight members of the team to head down the hallway towards the bow. Members of damage control eight also pushed aside their restraints and started to get up."Come on Francis, lets go." urges Beloquol, a Dro'all female."Its not our section. We should stay put in the capsule until we're out of combat or our section needs repairs."Phase cannon fire continues to rock the ship as more than half of DC 8 heads forwards."Jadyn?""Hell no, I'm staying here. I think Francis is on the money with this one.""Look, we'll just have to run to catch up when the call comes in." "Fine."The hatch remains open, ready for any returning crew. Everyone double checks their restraints.A minute later the shaking picks up its pace, rocking and slamming the crew from one side to another. "Torpedoes, incoming! Bow sections!" "Brace." Warns Francis. The initial impact isnt so bad, just the usual for an SP weapon exploding on the outer hull and wrecking the armor. The following ones are not so good. A shockwave travels through the section the teleport capsule is in throwing the three crewmen against their restraints harder than they'd previously encountered. Francis has enough time to see the blast door outside begin to glow red, orange then white over the span of a second before the hatch slammed shut automatically.
The electric hum and crackling of the teleporter activating accompanies the sensation of every cell in the crewman's bodies freezing, burning or being shocked. Eyes blinded by sourceless lights, muscles spasming from misfiring nerves, bone and joints stretched and flexed in directions they were not designed for. Throats worn ragged from the ceaseless screams of pain. And then it was over. Weightlessness taking hold as a new vibration begins to run through the Faraday cage, increasing in pitch. Without warning gravity returns, pushing the crewmen into their seats in what can only be deceleration. Fifteen seconds of this ends with a landing into a body of water.Waves crashing against the exterior of the capsule are the only noise apart from the crewmen catching their breath. That and coughing. "That hurt a lot more than in the simulation.""We were on the wrong side of a Navigation Relay. We probably teleported ten times farther than we're supposed to.""Anyone need the medkit?" asks Jadyn."My limbs feel like they've been twisted into spirals." Says Bel"So thats a no then."Francis hauls himself up and begins to check the different escape hatches for one less likely to flood the capsule when blown. "This should be the top.""Don't open it yet, lets have the rest of the emergency gear ready before we do." A few short minutes of checks later and the gear has been accounted for. A pile of the containers sit on the crash seats, ready to be thrown where needed should the heavy faraday cage fill with water and sink. "We have enough survival packs for eight people, each with rations for five days.""Well most habitable planets have a few people on them even if they're officially abandoned. That should be enough time for us get hold of them.""I don't think we can risk lighting the capsule's distress beacon.""We wont know for certain until we've checked the conditions outside. Seal your suits just in case."On cracking the hatch it seems sun is up.
"Breathable atmosphere. Oxygen content is a bit lower than average but still better than the work spaces of some industrial plants." The next twive hours are filled with waiting, listening in on the radio and com bands and broadcasting a radio distress signal. It should have enough range to alert the locals but at the same time, it's doubtfull pirates will be expecting anyone from the military using such a low power com system."Whats that?" Jadyn stands up and points towards a dot on the horizon growing closer."It's an aircraft thats for sure""Maybe a shuttle?""Dont recognize the design." Begins Jadyn "And I've got-""Fifty models back home, we know." finish the other two.The strange aircraft has a curved central hull which proves to be ideal for water landings. Two other floats, one on either side of the bulky main hull help keep the shuttle balanced in the water.A white skull and crossbones decorates the bow just below a twin particle beam turret."Great." "It might not mean anything." says Bel waving.Cargo doors that make up the bulky front section of each wing split open to reveal cargo bays built inside them. The craft must rely mostly on repulsors for lift capacity but this is hardly unusual."You all having a bad day?" Shouts over a Rovinar sporting a pink mohawk and not much else. Payment to reach a small settlement nearby costs 5 pusle pistols and the capsule as the crew of the flying boat extends a crane to recover the faraday cage. "Don't cause any problems for the crew or they'll tie you up and throw you overboard." Warns the captain."Do you know how someone can get offworld? We'd like to make our way back to one of the Nav stations.""You could find passage at any of the main ports but payment will be an issue. Unless you're carrying items of value beyond your survival gear you'll need to find work. Depending on who you get a job for it could take a month.""That's not so bad really. There are worse worlds to be trapped on."
"Expect storms next week. Find shelter before then.""What about you, do you have any work?" Bel asks of the Rovinar."Very little, it would take you three months to make that kind of money working for me.""What kind of currency system is used here?""Barter mostly. You'll get the hang of it quickly enough."After the flight back to a nearby settlement the three crewman begin looking through their remaining gear."The food and remaining weapons we'll keep, who knows how much we might have to pay the locals for a decent meal. We should trade in everything else.""I'm keeping the combo water filter/condenser." States Francis. "I'm not dying from lack of drinkable water while surrounded by ocean."The three of them split up, looking for jobs or anyone that might have available a ride to one of the major ports. Apparently this planet, Tourta, is a major smuggler haven. There's bound to be one of them headed back to Centri cluster, or even just to a nav relay. 1 week later..."Heard a rumor there's a shuttle coming in from one of the ports." Mentions one of the retired hands that frequents the docks. "Figured you and your friends might like to try and beg your way aboard once more."Before Francis can respond the others come running up to him. "Did you hear?""Yeah, Clarance was just telling me. And was probably going to ask for some of my rations in return for the info.""It's one of ours." States Bel."What? Really?""Yeah. The Wing CO, Reynard, is supposed to be here looking for us. Some Marines are here in a shuttle ready to go.""...I'm not going." "What?!""Look at it here. Sure there might not be a lot of services available, but this place is like a beach resort. I can weld and cut metal, there's no shortage of work here for someone like me. And I dont have to worry about being on a ship that's constantly being shot to pieces. In that one week how many times did we almost die? Because I lost count.""Twenty, maybe thirty." Says Bel.
"And for half of that we were locked up in a refinery by a bunch of guys who were supposed to be our allies. The people here are laid back, a little rough at times, but you know what? I've been to parts of Dreminth that are so far worse than this I doubt I could find a scale big enough to measure it. So-""We get it already F. So you're staying.""Yeah.""Good luck." Says Bel turning away and heading for the shuttle. Jadyn hands him the remaining rations. "You'll need these more than me, at least until you have more steady work.""Thanks guys.">1 year later...Your shuttle comes in to land at the only pad nearby capable of handling a transatmospheric vehicle. The surrounding wooden docks leading to the settlements look too rickety for power armor of any kind to cross. Maybe that's intentional? You head in with a pair of Marines in more normal armor backing you up."What can I do for you?" asks the dock master. "And how long do you reckon you'll be using the pad?""Not long, maybe an hour? I'm looking for someone named Francis Solomon."The middle aged man points you towards some workshops where the locals are overhauling shuttles rigged for water landings.>What do you plan to say to him?

>>29497878Well, first... we should probably avoid walking in with two marines with guns. They can probably wait outside unless a firefight starts."Care for a walk?"We should let him know there are two marines nearby, but make it clear we'd rather not involve them.Ask how he has been, if he's found himself a wife or something. If he wants to stay here, ask if he'd come up to our ship so we can have him written off as unfit for duty, or if we'd need to bring someone down here to declare it.I'd say we'd need to pause there to gauge his reaction before we go for any of the proposals we've cooked up for him.
>>29497965I believe the plan was to see if he'd be interested in either being paid to train some of the orphans on Tourta as engineers/mechanics, or even teach at a larger school. We'd likely have him 'evaluated' and declared unfit for return to duty, probably due to psychological reasons. I'd imagine that the Lat'tham coup actually broke quite a few people or pushed them to breaking point that came later vs pirates. And in the end, someone eventually was going to come for him. He was part of our wing, so we may as well be the one to do it.

The boards squeak and creak as you cross them, giving anyone nearby plenty of warning of your approach. Anyone inside the shop would still have a hard time hearing it though. You have the marines wait outside and out of sight of the workers. No reason to agitate the locals even more, besides you've got body armor and a couple guns if anything goes wrong."Hi, I'm looking for Francis?" You tell one of the others on the ground level."Yo Francis! Lady in a uniform looking for you."You wince at the statement. One of the workers stops and sticks his head out from above the hull section that was blocking his view. That's him alright if the ID your HUD is comparing him to is correct."Hi! Care for a walk?""You here to shoot me?!" He shouts down to you. This causes a few others nearby to stop what they're doing and pay attention to the exchange."I'm here to offer you a job.""I'm not going back aboard a starship.""That's fine. RL conventional ammo is starting to transition away from copper jacketed lead into cleaner and more effective designs like solid copper alloy with tungsten tips. I'm assuming our conventional rounds are like this, only caseless. Our designs:- Ball ammo is the splinter equivalent of a FMJ steel core bullet, a general purpose AP round. It's mostly intended for use against armoured infantry as it's rather overkill for soft targets.- APHEI is designed for hard targets (especially mechanical ones). All splinter ammo can be reasonably expected to punch through a single layer of armour, but this round will do that and keep going. The front HEI charge helps punch and melt a hole for the kinetic rod, and both the case and rod have delayed bursting charges. The incendiary in the middle is a thermite charge and gets scattered everywhere after impact to melt and fuse machinery.- HEFrag is designed for soft targets in hard shells (like vehicles) or behind cover. The round fragments into a cylindrical pattern with the front cone getting the major brunt of it. The casing is thicker to help shape the blast and the tip is filled with kinetic darts. The HE charge is interspaced with baffles to add more fragments.-Flechette rounds are intended for very large creatures like Neeran or those sport hunting critters they brought with them. On impact the flechettes bloom open and the bursting charge gives them an extra kick. The hope is that with so many submunitions at least one of them will strike something vital.- Sonia's FUck Neeran rounds have a solid AP shell with a band of HE that splits them open. Inside? Acid. Yeah.Ball, APHEI and FUN ammo can be used at any calibre. HEFrag and Flechette rounds wouldn't be effective at smg and rifle sizes, so they would be for 12.7 and 20mm rounds.
I also included some designs for mass driver slugs. Like with conventional ball ammo I'm guessing most slugs are cheaply made. So our custom rounds have a number of improvements. The alloy is the best quality we can get for density and hardness (short of DU), and the surface is a shell of frictionless ceramic that sheds heat. If you can fire it fast enough the chisel tip will supercavitate the air and let the round travel in a partial vacuum. There are two versions. Match grade slugs are machined to extremely tight tolerances to maximize accuracy. APHE adds a splinter cap and a bursting charge, these are for general use against hard targets.
>>29505112>RL conventional ammo is starting to transition away from copper jacketed lead into cleaner and more effective designs like solid copper alloy with tungsten tipsYep, infact the US Army has completely transitions all its 5.56 and most of its 7.62 to completely lead free ammo, and AFAIK all their 9mm for sidearms too, everything else didn't use lead previously in large quantities
>>29505175It does make sense since the less toxins you use the less toxins you leave behind at every step of the process. Harvesting raw materials, refining, shaping, using etc.We should get ourselves one of those antitank rifles, and a similarly sized mass driver too. I wonder if it would be possible to do both in the same weapon? We could make it looks like a shark! And just so it's actually practical the fins could be the bipod and the gills could be the muzzle brake.
>>29506571I reckon we should make it look like the Widow or Black Widow (pic related), but have paint and detailing like a sharks mouth on it.Because you know, that design is meant to be easy to use and handle, and the body of a shark is not ergonomic at all
>>29506641Yeah I didn't mean the whole weapon, just the barrel shroud. Gotta put those painting lessons to good use!
You know when we finally go off the deep end I can see Sonia as some kind of mad artist who roams around painting over stuff. Only instead of mustaches, we paint sharks.Seriously though I can see the opportunity to make some kind of awesome combined antitank rifle/heavy mass driver custom weapon. Take a 20mm antitank rifle and add repulsors to the barrel. Then add a second loading mechanism in the stock that connects to the back of the barrel. Basically it's a normal antitank rifle, but when the chamber is empty the weapon can grab a mass driver slug from further back in the stock and accelerates it forward and out the same barrel. The rifling isn't a problem because the slug floats in the centre. The repulsors can also be used to give the conventional ammo an extra kick and force air out of the barrel to let it accelerate in a vaccum. The weapon would have two magazines, one for 20mm shells and a smaller bullpup one for mass driver slugs. To fire a 20mm you just chamber a round. To use the mass driver you just eject any loaded cartridge and fire.Unlike a normal mass driver it's going to need a muzzle brake, which we can stylize into gills. A bipod and iron sights would also be useful.
>>29501224>Anything else you guys want to get done before the end of your leave?Extensive tests to make sure our new arm is as hydrodynamic as it should be.
>>29505112I'd just like to mention that from a medical standpoint, putting incendiary into/around a packet of penetrators you're hoping to cause damage with is actually a poor idea. The objective of those penetrators should be to enter and cause trauma, hopefully in the form of tumbling within the body in order to tear at flesh and cause heavy bleeding. The tiny amount of actual fire you'd have in the round is more likely to simply cauterize the wound, and actually make it less deadly by minimizing or outright stopping bleeding from the damage. Generally, incendiary ammo for small arms has been best used against things that are full of a larger fuel source for them to ignite: zepplins with hydrogen, bombers/fighters to ignite fuel tanks and fuel lines. If we went with a dedicated APHE white phosphorous or perhaps thermite payload, however... I imagine Neeran would have a bad day if that started burning in their torso, while we could probably have the delayed burst of it set so that it would have over-penetrated Faction races.
>>29509140with the way most of those are designed, your not going to get tearing or tumbling rounds, just massive and deep holes depending on what armor there may be in front of the flesh, and you could conceivably have accelerants that burn so hot that they burn through/melt armor and sensitive eletronicsthe more anti-biological types of rounds would be the flechettes and frag rounds, which would cause massive lacerations and internal damagethose rounds are not really designed for causing simple gunshot wounds, they are either mass driven kinetic penetrators, for defeating armor and hardened targets, or extremely vicious anti-personnel rounds that just tear flesh apart

>those rounds are not really designed for causing simple gunshot wounds, they are either mass driven kinetic penetrators, for defeating armor and hardened targets, or extremely vicious anti-personnel rounds that just tear flesh apartWell yeah, that's the entire point of splinter ammo. These rounds aren't supposed to be used on *people*. The whole reason we got into this business was that heavily armoured attack beast the Neeran were using to invade planets. Those things have natural armour good enough to shrug off conventional rounds. You NEED splinter ammo to take them out with a reasonable number of hits. This is the kind of enemy we are fighting.Neeran are so big and tough they might as well be classified as vehicles. A normal bullet (if it doesn't just bounce off) is only going to annoy them. Just putting a hole in them isn't good enough. To inflict anything but a flesh wound you're going to need something powerful enough to leave a crater. And even then they have amply demonstrated their ability to ignore wounds, hence the fire and acid.
>>29509432>Wiped out by the AI one way or another. The atmospheres were no longer habitable by the time the worlds were retaken. What exactly went wrong? Was the AI genocidal right off the bat, or was it a case where a human with the same experiences and capabilites might have ended up doing the same against an alien species?
>>29509494Or a error in programing, or a seed AI event witch was not friendly.
>>29509448I think my point of the incendiary payload on the multi-penetrator rounds stands. unless we have access to repulsor shenanigan level incendiary, the payload is likely too small to do anything more than provide the target with a crude but effective first aid treatment. And we should totally make a round with a heavy WP or thermite payload designed to go off inside their body.

Or at least work any better than the generic stuff?>>29509647Well to be perfectly honest I only put the incendiary there because I needed to show that the darts and fletchettes were not just embedded in the carbon. I didn't want to make the rounds hollow in any way so I filled it in. The incendiary was green and had better contrast than the HE (which would have made more sense from a technical standpoint). In retrospect putting the acid in with the flechettes would make the most sense. I can also design some general purpose HE and Incendiary rounds. The hybrid rounds like the HEFrag are great at what they do, but they don't have the same punch as a plain HE round. Likewise with the APHEI.>>29509726It wouldn't cost that much to sponsor a team, so I'll give it a tentative yes. Maybe we could organize something with that Baron?

If you just wanted your company logo to join the others on an existing starfighter it would only cost a couple thousand a year. To sponsor a team, buy them vehicles and the like would cost in the 250-400k range total, with 20-50k a year after that. There are options available in between, and it would likely be easier to help fund an existing team than create a new one which would mean finding a pilot. There is also racing for ground vehicles, both wheeled and repulsor based which would be much cheaper.
>>29510490We are not blowing half a million on that. Not now. We need at least a year of financial profit, and with this R&D thing that i hope will be limited to bullets for now, and the fucking refugee thing we got ourselves into that are both money sinks instead of making more money so we can buy far more than we can do with them in a year, our finances are in a pretty well spread portfolio i do not want to rock unnecessarily. We have to go to war, and get more choice salvage.

>>29510582Also remember that our initial targets for R&D are reverse engineering a generation or two old cloaking and Shield Piercing Manufacturing. (and later the age retardant and the Vecktron torp and such)Those are very high end shit that while massive force multipliers cost most likely obnoxiously much if not in Reverse engineering and R&D some viable applications and upgrades, their physical application to make them viable means we will have to have massive funds and industrial capacity to churn out those systems and our house, company and person as well as family and such in a position to survive retaliation and thrive from it. That means security, and increased industrial output so that it does not end up with orders of like one stealth corvette a year and fifty SP torps. We are going to need to be able to fucking churn our stealth for a wing if not more and SP torps enough to fill up a terran fleet worth of alpha volley. That will cost a lot of money and political capital. We either need to get the real assets of a medium house to hold our own or the political backing of a great house and that of the royal one. These two systems are short of manufacturing vortex weapons, and if so they are not only economic but a political concern that we need royal political capital for, while somehow still moving so we hold monopoly or control over it and are not faced wit ha situation where the royals or great house just swoops in and confiscates all of it.The age thing we could to on our own, and Vecktron weapons in secret for our political faction fo the house to use as a dead mans switch or a Rohirim charge in case we want to save someone really bad and its going to give us enough cover and profit to make it worth it.
>>29510490It should be more than fine to sponsor a team personally. The screening process could just be us holding up several pictures of sharks and gauging their reaction.
>>29510700the SP stuff isn't even viable, as it will remain buried for 4 more years at least, and the Rovinar/Terrans put anyone getting even a shred of advancement toward the production of SP stuff into complete ruin, IIRC. Not that we know anything about SP production stuff... no sir. Terran space magic, if you ask me. I just shoot it when they give me some. Then there is the Mr Wizard stuff, which is several generations of tech beyond what our stuff apparently is now.
>>29510490>250-400k range total, with 20-50k a yearSo basically not a lot. We make more than that on our Knight's salary, I think.I'll vote yes, in that case. Considering it could lead to some good engineers being attracted to our company, and a good PR boost with the young generation, why not.
>>29510967And lets not forget that what we have on SP torps is at least one or two generation old as well. The cloak is just recordings of a new one and the wreck or a old one i think.I think the only viable way would be to go for age retardant/ rejuvenator first and then get backing for the Royal house as becoming some sort of royal armory outsource solution and churn out Vecktron weapons for the dominion and then hand them out to the Royal house- because they are the only ones in a position to assure MAD with the other major factions, secretly making a few for our own. Then we can go with space magic. SP or Space Wizard. - The cloak may be a exception, although i don't know how to frame it so we don't sour our relations with the rovinar.
>>29511049the next-gen cloak stuff is also buried until our house can get to a point where it isn't obvious we scanned that particular ship, or that ship type enters some form of production so that word is out on it.I think V-torps are also 'get wrecked' tier things as well, and there is no way the Royal House wouldn't just nab it from us and let us V-torp our own systems to get it, even if we avoided Terran Spec Ops.V-torps allegedly came from SP torp research, so it would be a production milestone that the Terrans would not want anyone having. On another note, I'm still wondering if the Sydney class has had any success against Neeran ships, due to it's 'pre-SP anti-heavy ship' origins
>>29495915>I'm wondering if Rovinar cruisers ever carry cloaking devices. If so, Winifred's people may want to check out the ship before we turn it in to the RovinarThey can but rarely do. Battleships carry cloaks sometimes as they're better suited to long range missions. Other than that they prefer to equip smaller vessels that have less energy emissions to begin with.>>29510619>How about one of them brain scans for sniper training so we can get a bit of a headstart on that? Knight Kim's Battleship can mount a cloak if needed, though you don't know for sure if he has one.
>>29500469You know, that gave me a hilarious idea: starfighter grade plasma weapons in place of the traditional phase cannon. If the republic can make it into a pistol they can make a starfighter grade one for a heavy bomber.
>>29500469Oh, adding onto my idea of a stealth fighter here, I remember reading an article on an old US CIA program for stealth fighters where they strapped electron guns to bombers to create clouds of charged ions that scattered and absorbed radar.Assuming that ships still use some similar form of sensors, would attempting something like that with this design work, TSTG?
>>29511469We have a functional Battleship grade cloak yes, but didn't we get reading from that experimental one that we chased down?

They're fairly specialised and wont hide someone from detection by newer sensors at closer ranges but they have their uses.>>29511211I have been thinking about this as well. Still, it is being treated as a possible solution for shielded Neeran ground vehicles.>>29511469Yes, but as stated above, that tech is effectively buried until your House can mass produce regular cloaking tech, otherwise the Rovinar would realise you stole the data and relations would worsen considerably. Mind you, I'm sure some people in the House might just say it's all your fault and hand you, Winifred and anyone else involved (Duncan) over to the Rovinar.>>29511620>>29511469Posting problems?>>29511146>On another note, I'm still wondering if the Sydney class has had any success against Neeran ships, due to it's 'pre-SP anti-heavy ship' originsThey're doing well against Neeran Battleships and Battlecruisers but lack the punch to be really effective against the larger ships. Some are undergoing refit to replace their main weapons with Republic plasma weaponry.

It can operate in atmosphere and the Dominion has so many of them lying around.
>>29512055I'm trying to imagine what that would look like. Here's what I've got:1. Speed and maneuverability for armor. You're not going to be dodging anything in atmosphere, so toughness is much more important.2. Large number of sub weapons instead of antiship weapons.

>>29512245Aww. I liked the idea of FF like airships becoming a part of planetary warfare.
>>29511758While on the topic, I may need to make some modifications and possibly retcon how Republic Plasma weaponry works. I've been doing research off and on since about this time last year and there seemed to be significant differences between how they worked in my head when I first created them and what physics allow.Unfortunately I've been having trouble finding information on plasma physics that I can get my head around easily, or that would relate well to use as weapons. I could use some help in that department.I originally (15 years ago?) intended for Republic Plasma cannons to fire a stream of Iron that had been heated to a plasma state. They don't bring it up to temperature aboard ship, it is done at a logistics base. The fuel cell contains a stasis field and magnetic bottle system which is opened only when firing. Now I know that when iron undergoes fusion it uses up a lot of energy.>This kills the star.jpgFrom what I've been reading Plasma ≠ Fusion thankfully. Does anyone with some physics knowledge know if it's practical to heat Iron to a plasma state for this? I know it's not possible to magnetically accelerate molten Iron. (It took forever to find that out. Thank you Arthur C Clark for your self correction on that issue.) In a plasma state it should be possible to accelerate it though. Does this all seem to work properly?
>>29512382 Sent that post to my sister. It might take a while for her to respond, but she has a phd in physics, so I hope she'll be able to provide some insights on the issue.
>>29512382Why does it use Iron and not something like Helium gas? More punch per shot? Lithium would probably be better, it's a lot more malleable but not as light as some other low mass elements. Maybe Boron, as it's fairly unreactive.I always thought the Plasma weps used a gas, to be honest. Much easier to deal with.
>>29512780Adding on to this, if you're worried about the Plasma simply blasting itself apart (which it would do in real life), you could have a magnetic monopole core to keep each shot intact.
>>29512382Ehhh the only known thing that produces enough energy to fuse Iron nuclei is a supernova so you're probably safe.As for magnetic acceleration, Plasma is a sea of unbound electrons and nuclei, so it's very susceptible to magnetic fields.
>>29512992>>29512382this has given me a crazy idea for countering that damned planet-killer thing they have.since plasma is magnetic, would it be possible to convert an old ship into a combination electro-magnet & repulsor bomb? Get it into the building plasma 'bottle' and then have it repel the plasma with enough force to break the Neeran ship's containment and possibly spray their own plasma into the weapon itself? You don't need to destroy the ship, only damage the weapon to disable it.
>>29512352You still might depending on how things go. We'll see.>>29512570>>29512992Thanks.>>29512780I was thinking more kinetic punch at the time because Iron is heavy. Since starting up this quest and carrying out a number of significant retcons I've begun seriously considering alternate elements. It's why I've avoided definitively stating what the Republic weapons fire because I haven't come up with an acceptable answer.Fusion cannons are a standard Hydrogen/Helium fusion drive that's been modified for use as a weapon. Once I start reading Larry Niven and things like the Kzinti lesson came up I wanted to differentiate between the two weapon types.>>29512919Interesting.>>29513071>this has given me a crazy idea for countering that damned planet-killer thing they have. It's also why I knew I was run out of time to figure out how these weapons worked after those plans about iron poisoning started to pop up.

Containing no hyperdrive and minimal space maneuverability this unit makes no pretentions to being a multi role unit. Its one and only job it to be used en mass to destroy Neeran Atmospheric Forces. To this end the Allegiance is equipped with heavy armor, shielding a topside point defense weapon and maximum forward facing anti vehicle/structure firepower. How does this look as a possible business venture? After a short flight the shuttle docks with one of the external hatches and one of the intrusion specialists begins to hack the door controls. Everyone suits up and begins quarentine safety measures. After a few minutes the door cycles open and the team goes aboard. There's still atmosphere in these sections, though it's of poor quality. You consider doing a faster sweep with more teams, they do need equipment back at the main site, but deside it's better to keep specialists nearby with each group to handle any serious problems."Let's split up. Team 1 head for the bridge, team two head for engineering."A few grumble about wasting time but they move out. When you get to the bridge it seems that everything here is largely intact. No hull breaches or severe damage to the controls."One of the bridge escape pods is gone, the second one is jammed. Dead crewman inside."One of the techs uses a power cell to get enough of the bridge systems running for a quick read of the diagnostics."There's a problem with the escape pod. The atmosphere was vented." Getting one of the cameras online and connected it shows the only occupant of the pod with a pressure suit on. The suit has been compromised by a pulse pistol shot to the upper chest."Are we going to call the space cops?" jokes one of the others.>What say?

I'll try to run the registry without attracting too many other vultures.""How are the rest of the systems?" you ask"The main trunk line has been disconnected near engineering so I cant tell, and we dont have enough power for a full diagnostic anyways. Capacitors are empty and the forward reactors have been shut down. I think there is some fuel for them left, but we'll need a jump start from the shuttle or the ship to get them running."Not great news but not unexpected with the handful of holes in the transport's hull."Engineering looks clear." Reports team two. "No survivors or stasis cylinders aboard. From the bodies this might have been a Faction Wars era wreck, not one from last year."Your own tech on the bridge cant be sure. The ship is an older series Y-type so there's no telling when it could have been built. The engineering team still has enough power to get some minor readings. "One of the sublight drives is shot. "Has anyone checked the strucural integrity?""Not yet, we're looking.""My team is headed towards the other engine ro prep it for restart. We'll let you know if we spot anything." Says another. You grab a couple remaining people and head for the cargo bay access. Manually cycling the airlock takes a moment and causes the small amount of atmosphere in the cargo lock to vent out, but it's a minor loss. Doing a quick visual check you and the others can see rows of drive plates suspended in shock absorbing cargo frames. There are also a few cores and high effeciency transfer conduits. You can clearly see the few hull breaches, and the cargo has been crushed together in a few places. None of the holes are near the all important spine of the ship, or the corners of the cargo block."Looks good." You report.[ ] "Send over the DC Teams"[ ] "Call for the Moli. Oh, and anyone space try to patch the breaches as best you can to prevent the cargo from spilling out.""It's all secured sir. It isn't going to fall out." you assure your boss."Still, lets not take the chance with the Boss' loot."The Corvette maneuvers into position on the transport's port side and the DC teams reel out a power transfer conduit from the shuttle bay. Some of them cut into the damaged sections and splice a connector."Power hook up is online.""This is engineering, stand by for fusion plant start up."You tell the team in the starboard engine compartment to clear out for the restart just in case the reactor goes off. It doesnt happen often, but it can happen if a reactor has been cold long enough."Gladly, it's fuckin' cold in there. The old crew must have spilled liquid hydrogen. We fixed the leak though."The reactor starts up without incident and in a couple of hours the damage control teams have fixed a number of problems that were causing the capacitors to bleed off all their energy. All of the bodies save for the one in the escape pod are moved into a smaller storage room that will have the pressure and temperature settings kept low until the ship is brought in to port. The authorities can then take posession. There arent any stasis pods aboard or enough spare ones on the corvette to keep them all in."How many Y-types will this make?" you ask."Plenty." Replies the captain. "The company should start keeping some for actual cargo hauling or we won't have enough transport capacity to support the our fleet's logistics. Those Connies should make do for the short term, but they're just light transports." Oh he's on a rant again.
Drive core tests start after another hour and the engineers try to check the field strength and output. Life support is restored in every section except for the ones open to space and the storage compartment with the bodies. With all of the damage control personnel aboard it's been a little hard to keep track of which sections have been swept."Beryl to all boarding team membes, let's meet up and compare notes. We've checked everywhere right?"You gather just forward of engineering and use a map there to mark off sections that have been checked. It all looks clear."Where's Don?" Asks one of the people from second squad. Everyone looks around and does a headcount. One short. "Tell me he's not joking again, that was just annoying last time." says Sam."Probably helping the DC people with the engines."You hit your squad com. The doors into the cockpit cabin are secured."Anyone in there?" Yells Sam, banging on the door. When there's no response the hacker gets to work again. The Hune meanwhile steps back to one of the weapon racks and grabs a breaching charge, placing it on the door."What are you doing?""We're wasting time while something could be in there killing our guys. No more xeno shits are killing our crew... No offense.""I've almost got it.""Fine." The Hune pulls the charge off the door and stows it.The door hisses open to reveal an empty cockpit. No, not quite empty, there's a severed hand on one of the control panels. Next to a count down timer."Out!"Everyone rushes back into transport. The shuttle reactors must have been rigged to explode. A blastwave overtakes you and the others, throwing you down the hall and slamming you into anything in the way. Then the pull reverses as atmosphere rushes back out of the breach in the hull.Roll dexterity 1d20

Flailing around in your armored vac suit you grab hold of an exposed pipe or other piece of metal jutting out. You don't care what it is, the artificial gravity in this section just failed so the breach is now effectively "down" until the atmosphere is expended. You hang on until the blast doors in other sections seal off and cut off the air flow, at which point your suit can hang on to the surface of the walls or decking."Report!" You order.Just under half of your people are still hanging on. You contact the ship which moves in to try and clocate the others amove the drifting debris."We'll have to wait until it thins out a bit. I'm not risking picking up a hitch hiker." Says the Captain.Zooming in with your HUD you spot two still alive that are venting atmosphere from their suits and report their positions and headings."Recieved. If we can get to them in time we will."Your remaining people still on the transport patch each other up and try to seal any leaks their suits might have picked up."Five dead minimum looks like. The Medic is gone."Of course he is.You have nine remaining, two of which are wounded and will be unable to keep up. You could put them on the bridge and let them watch each other, possibly with a third unwounded. Toss them overboard towards the corvette for pickup or help them back towards engineering and the DC crews.>Your orders?
>>29522330"I want two volunteers to help the wounded along. We're going to make our way back to engineering, but we'll take our time about it and won't rush. Radio ahead and let them know we're coming. Understood?"
>>29522330>>Your orders?Whatever we decide to do, don't split the group any further. Our enemy seems to prefer to engage small groups and isolated targets. And it seems they can't take us head-on at the moment, or they wouldn't have bothered with the trick they just pulled.
>>29522330Tossing them at the corvette actually seems like the smart move here.Everyone else aboard needs to get to a single defensible location with a quickness.
"Anyone that's lost their weapon help the wounded. We all stay together and make our way back to engineering, but we'll take our time about it and won't rush. Radio ahead and let them know we're coming. Understood?"You get a mixed assortment of affirmatives and agreements, then the squad begins the trek back to the other end of the ship."What are you thinking?" asks Sam. The blasted Hune somehow managed to survive."Our enemy seems to prefer to engage small groups and isolated targets. And it seems they can't take us head-on at the moment, or they wouldn't have bothered with the trick they just pulled.""It just took out half our damn security team. Those DC guys barely know how to fire a weapon.""Yeah I noticed. You still have that breaching charge?""Under my tac vest. Just don't bloody shoot me with a stun shot, I'm not sure it won't get set off.""Noted." You tell him, making sure the rifle is set to kill.It takes awhile to get back to the engineering section. Your hacking specialist is wounded and lost his gear."Open the door." You order and are greeted with the business ends of a dozen pulse pistols and five carbines.Well it's a good thing they're taking things seriously. "I notice none of you are looking behind you."That gets a good reaction.
>>29522330>>Your orders?Once we're moving report all details about what has happened to the corvette crew. The enemy was able to set the shuttle to self-destruct, and entered it without leaving any easily visible trace. They better be careful.

>>29510085>If we are making them this large we should consider some electronics and power source for them, so that they have actively change their aerodynamics profile and vectors. With some high end computer in the scope or the gun you could angle the gun and have it change its trajectory so it hits behind cover, detonate on the exact spot, or abort target run if something interposes, like a hostage. The bullets are not actually that big, we are roughly following the same basic calibres as real life. So 5.56 SMG, 7.62 Rifle, 12.7mm and 20mm. In imperial that's something like .223 .308. 50 and .75. The designs with complicated fillings don't work as well in small sizes, but in larger calibres the internal volume of the round increases dramatically with diameter. I actually just held up a ruler to my screen and if the bullet diagrams were to scale they are exactly 7/8" wide, or .87 calibre. Our 20mm version isn't quite that big, but the shape wouldn't stay consistent between calibres, the bigger shells will be longer relative to the smaller ones.Smart bullets are not that unrealistic. I think I remember reading that DARPA is working on .50cal rounds that can self correct in flight to maintain a straight flight path. But doing this has a couple of problems, namely cost. It might be more efficient to make a smarter rifle that can use anything you put in it.
>>29523749Agreed. Separate into 3 teams with Sec being lead/breachers. The DC can act as sentries to cover corridors and intersections and support Sec team as it clears areas. If this is anything like BioWeapon quest was we need to watch out for even small air-ducts and other out of eyesight areas that could hide a pouncing enemy. If there is too much ship for our squads to search thoroughly, restrict operations to the immediate area until we can get those PCA Marine reinforcements
>>29526309A Smarter rifle is not going to make bullets ignore cover or go for the perfect angle on a certain target.I was thinking something akin to the last episode in almost human( looked like a longer cylindrical 338 Lapua Magnum), but it would need a tracking app and very high electronic emission environment or the drones in the Fifth element(.50 calls?), needing a first calibration/ranging shot to act as a marker or perhaps a relay than can have a laser to mark the target from the angle it cont logged in or the smart bullet in Earth:Final Conflict (.45 ACP or 10 mm pistol) that one i think needed iris implants or goggles and a few mods to the gun and user but were the most accurate of all variants as it could not miss from the point of view of the user/gun, unless the user wants to miss. The fact that its even considered possible IRL is something that allows this concept to be so widespread. Now couple tihs with a smart gun or smart implant and you basically turn the gun, user and ammo into a walking arsenal of killdrones that take the optimal path for maximum destruction. Its the only way to make ballistics competitive with energy by leveraging every advantage like ammo variation and trajectory change, aim assist, remote control and such.Especially considering Neeran and their psi bullshit premonition a machine auto correct that follows them even if they avoid the ballistic arc of the gun barrel.
>>29527367>The fact that its even considered possible IRLBut no where near to such a degree that sci-fi would like, electronic smart-guided rounds currently can maybe negate a 4mph crosswind and thats a stretch.Your not going to have round be able to go around corners or cover without losing 90% of their velocity, and when they hit their target, they will just bounce off causing a light bruise.you can't get self guided small calibre (25mm or less realistically) that maintain their intended purpose, as hardened structure penetrators
>>29527428I am thinking a 45 degree adjustment. That is enough to go around most covers, if you angle the gun barrel a bit and are off axis enough hfor a 15 degree angle to cummulate with the 45, or a controlled detonation on proximity as being splinter ammo its enough to cause superficial wounds or perhaps even sensor incapacitation. And if that is not possible than a transmitter to record the things it penetrates, and relays it back so that the second bullet can adjust its profile so it does not over penetrate, or detonates or deforms at the right moment.I am open for a variety of smart bullet solutions.
>>29510490>Doesn't that only really work in a liquid? I think it would probably work in air too, but the sheer speed you would need to achieve the same effect is not feasible. And at that speed your mass driver slug isn't going to penetrate your target so much as vapourize a crater in it anyways. I guess you would still be able to use these on targets that are underwater, which could come in handy.>>29527545Smart bullets are too much of a gimmick. If you want a bullet to fly around corners it's going to need a brain and some fins to direct it's flight. All of that takes up room which makes the bullet much less effective at penetrating armour. And all it takes is some blanket EMP and your fancy rounds are expensive duds. The programmable airburst is a little more useful but anyone with enough armour is just going to be annoyed by it and not seriously hurt. It would be much simpler to just pick up an disposable rpg.I think having a smart rifle with spotting rounds would work better in general. You fire it at a target and the rifle carefully measures it's trajectory and works out stuff like gravity, planetary rotation and crosswinds. Then you can use that to make accurate shots with any other kind of round because they are ballistically matched together and follow the same flight path.
>>29527545Realistically at the speeds and with the fin sizes involved you've got like half a degree of correction at most without declaring handwavium magic nonsense. The Tracking Point model is much less expensive overall and doesn't sacrifice payload. My preference is still for a large volume of automatic fire and rounds that go through cover rather than trying to go around it.
Micro RPG's can be steered in most cases and are already available. Yes you could create 20mm rounds that could be steered as well, but you're not going to pull off shit like the ZF-1. 180 degree turns are not going to work without an engine and a lot of room.>>29528082>Recon roundsCould work.>>29523591>>29526668So did you guys want to take out a single team with 3 security and & 8 DC people, or three such teams?3 Sec, 8 DCOr3 Sec, 8 DC2 Sec, 9 DC2 Sec, 9 DCThe later plan would leave 2 wounded in the starboard engine compartment looking after each other.
>>29529921To be honest, I think we should wait this one out. The DC team is most likely dead, or left their beacons behind and began to hide somewhereWe'll just get people killed by moving out, and the enemy probably had enough time to prepare some unpleasant stuff for us around the ship.If the other players decide to split up, could we send the wounded to the corvette? Leaving only 2 persons behind will just get them killed.
>>29529921The lost team hasn't moved right? There's been no indication of radio jamming so far, so can we request that some of them move to let us know they're still alive? If they don't, let's not go after them.
>>29529971>>29530070You hold your position and have one of the others hail team that's out of contact, telling them to move towards engineering and to please respond. After a minute of this one of the locator beacons begins to move, first towards the main corridors and then slowly aft."Whoever it is will reach engineering in a few minutes." If in doubt, stun.Have everyone else keeping watch on their flanks and above/below them, where applicable.
>>29530390Lay the ambush of course, but lets see if we can observe the person returning with any interior cameras and motion sensors to make sure that its just the one guy and not a piece of bait to lure out more of us. Anybody trying to take this ship or clear it out will presume that we have ship ops checked after we started it up and will know that we have a ship-full of reinforcements just a shuttle ride away.I do love a good ambush but nothing stings more than an ambush on your ambush. Lock up any extraneous paths into our section so that the target is forced to arrive in a location of our choosing at least. What I would give for the ability to close bulkheads right now.
>>29530390"Better to be prepared than not. Can you rig those stun grenades to a remote trigger?"

>What kind of equipment was on the shuttle?Things useful for a boarding & salvage team. A couple spare armored vac suits, sealant, patches, thruster packs, thruster guns, weapons & explosives like breaching charges for the team. Your company is also one of the few salvage units that owns stun pulse grenades. Medkits, rescue beacons, rations, portable power units, portable power air scrubbers, decontamination gear, hull cutters, fuel and power cables, Liquid fuel canisters. What else... expanding foam sealant maybe. Portable sensors. An AT Rocket possibly to help deal with pirates when on ground salvage ops? I'll say it's still on the corvette. Re-entry ballute(s), datapads, communicator relays. Shuttle Crew. (Missing)I cant think of anything else.

Lets see if we can observe the person returning with any interior cameras and motion sensors to make sure that its just the one guy and not a piece of bait to lure out more of us."Motion tracker readings detect the lone crewman headed aft towards engineering. At least once there seems to be a bit more movement than there should be but you don't get a clear reading. There should be a video feed for the doors into engineering but that's all you're seeing. Can anyone rig those stun grenades to a remote trigger?""Maybe.">>29539379Like to drop on them?Lets say you have enough time to get either the grenade(s) or a shock net into position before the crewman arrives.>Your orders?
>>29540967Are there any known sentient species the stun grenades don't work on?
>>29540967I'd say rig a shock net and just use the stun grenade as it is supposed to be used.is it the same model of stun grenade as Sonia has?
>>29541128They've proven to be of minimal effectiveness against Neeran because of their tougher nervous system. In theory it should work on anyone that a normal stun pulse would, though exceptional individuals have been known to shrug off the effects of stun shots in extremely rare instances.Armor obviously reduces the effectiveness. Power Cell Armor starts to get close to immunity to the effect, unless it's at near point blank range.>>29541276Yes, Sonia ordered them through the same supplier.
>>29540967I would suggest that everybody who isn't busy setting up the trap prepares to evacuate the vessel by jumping towards the corvette. Just in case we meet something we can't stop.
Where did you guys want to set up the trap? Are you taking one or more mixed teams? (3 SEC/ 8 DC)Or just your security people?
>>29541939I'd say 5 sec and a few DC to help set up the shock net trap. The DC book it back to the engine room, deliver a knock-code on the door, and get back inside with the others.our security people are likely better for attempting an ambush, and if need be, falling the hell back with some semblance of not getting slaughtered. Also, DC probably will just end up shooting friendlies in a panic like X-com rookies
>>29542104Anyone else okay with this? Or around?
>>29542605Seconding that Anon's plan
>>29542605Nope, I'm against splitting up. Just hole up until the cavalry arrives.

>>29542104>The DC book it back to the engine roomSo you want to set the trap somewhere forward of engineering? I take it you do still want to go out and check whoever it is when they arrive like in >>29530742 ?>>29542838>Do we have a helmet cam by the way?Yes.You begin transmitting to the corvette.
>>29542989>plan proposing anon here, just to be clearScrew it, we'll only take 2 DCs and keep them in our group. If any of them even volunteer, that is.>where for the ambush/shock netI'd prefer to set up the shock net in engineering, positioned so that by falling back we should effectively lure anything after us into it.Also, we should pray that someone with us is named Fred and he loves setting traps. Can we set a personal stun grenade we carry to activate on contact and then fire off it's second/remaining charges on say a ~5/10 second delay from the first? If there are 3 charges, it could fire, 5 sec, fire, 10 sec, fire?It should either repeatedly stun anything the first pulse gets, catch anything that thinks the grenade missed and charges past it after the first pulse, and simply screw with anything that thinks the first two missed.
>>29542605I don't really think splitting up is a smart plan. Whatever is out there is much to strong for a small team of untrained employs to deal with.Hold up and if it busts in on the encampment then a wall of gunfire might be our best bet.
>>29542989>I take it you do still want to go out and check whoever it is when they arrive like inCouldn't we simply use a helmet cam to confirm their ID?
>>29543752You want to leave someone's helmet outside then? >>29544382>I thought we still kept the helmet from the first casualty around. You never found the helmet from your first casualty.
>>29544486Oh, okay. In that case the plan is probably not a good idea. Unless one of the species present can survive the jump to the corvette without a helmet.
>>29544486... damn it, it has our security team comms.I thought "off" meant the helmet was still with his corpse, just removed. It knew to rig the shuttle to explode. We need to immediately give hand signals to our crew and the DC people that our comms are compromised and we need to switch over to another frequency/encryption.
>>29544486Seems like it might be a good plan to try to trick it into thinking we are setting up an ambush and that we will have low numbers near the wounded. This way when he shows up from listening in we can blast him.
Alright last version for now, added some new designs and changed some existing ones. So just to recap:- Ball: General purpose AP round for armoured infantry.- APHEI: Designed for punching through multiple layers of armour. Good for very hard targets like vehicles and mechanical threats like turrets. (Neeran also count as vehicles)- HEFrag: Soft targets, has a focused conical blast with big chunky fragments- APHE: Soft targets/demolition uses. Has a stronger radial blast with lots of smaller fragments.- API: General purpose incendiary. Can also be used as "impact tracers" as it will create a bright flash when it hits anything.- FUN: Biological targets. Combines a corrosive acid payload with 113 flechettes and a bursting charge.Every type of round except Ball ammo has an adjustable base fuse that you can twist to set a delay on the bursting charge, or even disable it. The tip portion of APHEI always detonates on impact as it's designed to help punch a hole.I added a small scale diagram. 5.56 rounds are for SMGs because I think low velocity 9mm rounds are not going to scale well against armour. So most SMGs and the military ones in particular will be high velocity PDW weapons ala Ghost in the Shell. You can see how the internal volume of the bullets increases dramatically with size, the 20mm rounds are an order of magnitude larger than the 5.56. These are real world examples and our bullets are going to be somewhat longer because of the caseless design and futuretech materials.
>>29509835>>Lol, guys, balletI was the one that made that joke. I didn't expect it at all.
>>29545743I don't get why people would even have a problem with ballet. It will help us in our stealth missions in PA.Limber and flexibility are important for stealth and can help in fighting.
>>29545715A fast acting acid fit for combat use will have to be absurdly strong. An absurdly strong acid will also dissolve any metal casing it's kept in.It will also contaminate the target zone with many potential hazardous, poisonous, and toxic residue.Such is the nature of H+/proton donators.Morale of the story: acid rounds are incredibly unfeasible.
>>29545950>An absurdly strong acid will also dissolve any metal casing it's kept in.Its the future, I'm pretty damn sure we could bio-engineer it to not react against certain materials, or be inert until activated, oh wait, we can do that right now...
>>29545988> bioengineer> an acidu wot m8Inert till activated would require inflight mixing of constituent reagents. Highly not rrecommended as it's likely to be an exothermic process and a 100% reaction yield is unlikely so it's of doubtful effectiveness.
>>29546711How foolish of me, trying to put 5 years of learning chemistry at university to use. I won't bother in future.
>>29546762>trying to put 5 years of learning chemistry at university to usePlease, be my guest, we're all smarter as a result of you posting, but would such things be possible in the future? or at least possibly in the realms of sci-fi?
>>29546836I think the point is that bioengineering is simply the wrong field when it comes to modifying acids.
>>29546762Well this is 2000 years in the future, we have flying cars and intergalactic teleporters. Weaponizing an acid should be child's play. But it might not need to be an acid specifically. The point is to cause as much painful debilitating tissue damage as possible. We could coat the flechettes in burning magnesium and stuff like that.We will defeat the Neeran with SCIENCE.

>>29544647>Unless one of the species present can survive the jump to the corvette without a helmet. That would be a no.A Norune might be able to but they're few in number within South Reach and Sonia doesn't trust them. You elect to wait in the engine compartment and organise fire teams to keep watch on the door and others to keep an eye on them. A few of you watch intently when the crewman approaches the doors into main engineering. Through the security camera there it looks to be one of the few Shallan crewman who is holding his head (despite the helemt being on) and limping slightly. That or he's having trouble keeping his ballance, you can't tell. You broadcast for him to stop in front of the camera and identify themselves. The Shallan, who one of the others says his name is Lann, looks up at the camera and uses his free hand to knock on the side of his helmet causing him to wince in pain."His helmet coms are shot." says Sam."He can still hear us though."Lann continues on into and through engineering and towards the starboard engine compartment. Nikolov is putting a team of Mercs and volunteers together and should have a ship here in another 5-6 hours.">Get some information on how the wounded crew the corvette picked up are doing."Alive for the moment. Some of them are burnt badly and medkits will only do so much. We're supposed to be getting some stasis cylinders when the other ship arrives.">ask them to give us the eta as a reference to an event somebody who has been stuck on this ship wouldn't know about. But then wouldn't you not really get how long the ETA is either as you've been stuck on the ship too?Either way your coms have been secured so it should be alright.Down the hallway you hear a noise. The sound of a wheeled cargo cart rolling past the cracks in the deck plating making a metallic "Click-click" noise. It's getting closer, and beginning to move faster. The medic looks back and forth. "Uh... I think I should pull back now."The noise continues to pick up speed drawing closer."You want me to pull him inside?!?" Asks the now panicking medic.

>>29555332>"You want me to pull him inside?!?" Asks the now panicking medic.Grab Shallan, pull inside, close door.
>>29555332Toss a stun grenade set to repeat-pulse on a delay until it's got nothing left (5 sec between?) at incoming cart.Medic and nearest man move the stunned shallan back.Unsure how much space we have when a cargo cart is incoming in this area. If we don't have enough room to sidestep or otherwise let it pass, we all need to GTFO and reseal the door.If we can get out of the way, I say we get behind shit that will either stop the cart dead or be an impossible turn for the cart. Controlled bursts down the hallway from the two people with the most ammo.
>>29555332I feel a little silly but this is the first time that the idea has hit me. We could be dealing with a camo system.
"Pull him inside. Half of you keep guns on him."The medic starts to drag the crewman towards the door."Set a Stun grenade for repeated pulses at five second intervals." you order."God dammit, that shit takes awhile." Curses one of the others as he pulls the stun grenade apart and fiddles with settings inside the sphere. "Give me that." Says Sam, flipping two bits around. "I can give you two pulses.""Good enough. Toss it when you think it's in range. Get ready to close the door!""I didn't think Shallans were this heavy." comments the Medic."They're not, something's catching on the deck plating." One of the DC guys tilts the stunned body as they're crossing the threshold and pulls a flat object off the back of the suit.Everything goes white. You wake up surrounded by flames which appear to be feeding off fuel spills on the decking. There are punctures in your suit which is partially sealed off. You can breathe but your torso hurts like hell. Looking down you see that there are a few piece of metal that have partially penetrated your armor along your front left. Some blood has leaked out but the wounds aren't deep, stopped by your sternum. A human or Dro'all would have had far more trouble you suspect.Getting up you check the others. Those who aren't dead have puncture or burn wounds to their suits. DC Teams advance from farther back putting out the fires. A few are unconscious but you manage to slap some of them awake. "What happened?" Asks Sam between coughs.Looking through the still open doorway you see that it was the cart that provided most of the fuel for the fires following the blast. Replaying your helmet cams are next to useless, they were blinded or pointed in the wrong direction afterwards.>Your orders?
>>29555911"D-don't know. You hurt?"
>>29555911>"What happened?""Some asshole attached explosives to the Shallan. Set them off when we dragged him in. The cart was there to supply fuel for the explosion.">Your orders?-Take stock of the situation.-Get the wounded to (relative) safety.-Report in to command.-Ask them for some fucking advice how to handle this. We're a trained to salvage wreckage, not to survive guerilla warfare.
>>29555911He was fucking booby trapped.Odds are whoever is doing this is probably now in here with us. Close the door and relocate to one end of the compartment. Begin treating injuries.
You try to take stock of the situation. "You hurt?""Yes, I've got punctures in my suit and armor." replies the Hune. "So do you.""Some asshole attached explosives to the Shallan. Set them off when we dragged him in. The cart was there to supply fuel for the explosion."You and the others that are awake first close the door the drag the wounded out of the hazard zone and into a wider area where they can be treated. of those that were closest to the blast there seems to be more pieces of suits than there was people near there."One of these suit pieces is a spare from the shuttle." points out Emmett while wincing in pain. You take off your helmet and grab a medkit to help treat his arm which has been wrecked. When it looks like everyone is stabilised enough to survive for the moment you contact the corvette and tell them what happened. "That's just dirty." Responds Fer'ial. "Did you get a look at whoever was doing this?""No. Now we need some fucking advice how to handle this! We're trained to salvage wreckage, not to survive guerilla warfare! Right now odds are whoever is doing this is probably now in here with us.""Try and stay calm Beryl and keep your head about you. Maintain quarantine proceedures, that should be a good start. I'll talk to the head survivor of the DC teams and we'll see about getting a contingency plan in place. You just try to stay safe.""You're the only one that hasn't been patched up." says Sam once you're off the com. You'll have to lose the suit in order to get your injuries fully treated. They're not that serious and the armor still offers some protection.[ ] I'm fine.[ ] Get fixed up. (Reduced defensive capability)[ ] Other

"I'm fine." you state.Sam draws a pistol on you, checking that it's still set to kill."You're sure about that are you?""What are you doing?""Don't give me that Kavarian tough as stone bullshit. I asked the others while you were talking to the captain, you were awake before anyone. How am I supposed to know you're not it?""I'm bleeding." You point out."So is nearly everyone else that isn't dead or burnt.">Your orders?

Stepping off to the side he grabs and empties an equipment carrying bag and proceeds to throw up into it over the next minute or so. When he is finally finished and has sat down you resume talking."Whatever we are fighting has been able to kill at least a dozen people without anybody seeing it. >>29557555Definitely some type of soldier or pirate by the way it operates (or a space /k/ommando). Have all weapons not currently needed by Sec teams left in an open well lit space with 3 Sec guards so that if "it" really has joined our numbers, it won't be seriously armed unless it has some type of weapon implant. In the event that we need the weapons, they're still in an area of easy access.Interview all Sec members first one at a time in a large-ish space at a distance of at least 15 feet with guards to check for the possible intruder. The space will prevent the intruder from starting a hostage taking event that may happen from the interview discovering the target. As people are checked by at least two sources that know them, allow 1 in 5 trusted DC members their weapons back. After all this is done, sit back and fortify until the cavalry arrives. We've done all we can and are NOT trained to clear a ship with small numbers against an obviously trained opponent. On a side note, see if we can proof our area for air leaks in case he tries to space us. His plan may have been to move us all into one or two compartments so that his plan would have a better chance of success.
