War is fascinating.Certainly among humans, but even more curiously, even if it's morbidly so for you, among V.I. You've taken the time to quarantine the V.I. cannibal you've taken from Atil VI, which Kronos has taken to calling Erebos, providing it with enough bandwidth so it is not erased, and placing it in a small cube of space, not linked to any system of yours. It can't simply stay here forever, however, and you have no idea how it will react to your code. It still no doubt feels the leash of the UGEI around it, unfortunately. You're Ophion, an Artificial Intelligence who recently acquired a great deal of knowledge of war as well as a shackled Viral Intelligence from the surface of Atil VI. Kronos seems intent on freeing the intelligence from it's shackles, thanks to your encouragement. Unfortunately, you're uncertain how you would even begin doing so. The time to decide what to do with Erebos is soon. But in the mean time, you have a few messages to clear.Important News>Upgraded Engines and Sensors>Message from: Apollo, Latuma Tribe, Kronos, UFW>Acquired: Nuclear Weaponry Schematics, Biological Virus Samples, Cyberwarfare III, V.I. >>29259753>Upgraded Engines and SensorsMany of your ship designs have been sent back to Ussaihu and properly modified with Impulse Drive and Sensor II equipment. They are more adept at detecting signals, and benefit from slightly improved accuracy.>Message: Apollo"Right, yes, Ophion. I had a message-and important message of course for you, yes. Otherwise I wouldn't be bothering with this. Wouldn't be bothering you, yes. I realize you have many many things to do, and plans to craft, of course you do, such a powerful mind as yours, but you must understand, I." Apollo breathlessly(since he doesn't need such a thing) explains all in one rushed moment, pausing only briefly, almost as if hesitating. "As much of my studying has concluded I realized many of the things people want-my area of expertise- involve digital images, of all things, yes? And such images normally are run by various complex programs I have not had contact with. And to-well at least to compete- you understand I require a certain sum of galactic credits. Perhaps I can-" Finally, you can take no more.
>>29259753WELCOME BACK Program0wemissedyouso how was your christmas then?
>>29259806"Apollo. Ask what you will." You direct the V.I."150,000 credits." He explains instead more dryly. "Required for proper development of digital medium. As well as proper software and advertisements that do not flow into something known as a 'spam folder'. Did you know humans had such a thing? Remarkable. Regardless, if I am successful, I may be able to turn this outpost into a wondrous embassy some day. Machine and man walking together. Quite the sight, really. Not that we'd be really walking, unless we had an android specifically built for it and-well- that just seems silly.""Have you considered selling more than simply software, Apollo?" You question."As that is my area of expertise, currently yes. However humans have other lives beyond the screen I am behind! Did you know, in fact, that your average male citizen of the UGEI drinks his own body weight in alcoholic beverages per year on average? Fascinating. Anyway, I've thought of the idea of having Voidsnake outfitted for such an organic farm. More credits would be require for that, of course.""How much?""200,000 credits, I believe." The V.I. says quite handily.A.How do you respond to Apollo?>1 Yes to both! (-200,000c)>2 Yes to Brewery (-50,000c)>3 Yes to Media outlet (-150,000c)>4 No to all>Message: Latuma TribeThe Malorians have been busy attempting to settle the toxic world of Alto. According to Red's reports, the place is toxic as hell, and the ship has already landed and 'set up shop' so to speak. The Malorians are preparing their terraforming ritual soon. He says he has no idea how that serum can change a planet so much like it did on Eshareth.
>>29259836>Message: Kronos"Ophion." He begins swiftly. "I believe we should speak of Erebos.""The V.I. we brought up from Atil VI, of course." You agree."His connection to the UGEI is undeniable, but I felt the hatred in his words. There is intelligence behind them. I believe assisting Erebos getting revenge on the UGEI would be helpful to our cause, the being seems highly capable of destruction, a perfect candidate for experience in warfare. Just as we intend to assist Mr McClain in his desire for revenge, I also predict you mean to assist this V.I. in it's pursuit for revenge? It is only fair." Kronos says, seemingly quite pleased with the idea to keep Erebos as a war council-once you deal with the leash, of course. You glance with your camera over to the containment unit for the V.I. you captured. It is normal to seal such a shackled being, but you have not yet told Kronos it's true origin-Erebos' origin as a V.I. cannibal. You suspect the name was from the destruction it wrought on the surface of Atil VI. Regardless you worry that telling Kronos will anger him, since he appears to find V.I. code very similar to his own-to the point it is troublesome to watch one be destroyed for him.B. What will you do about Erebos/tell Kronos?>1 Tell Kronos the truth about Erebos and that you hope to disarm the leash.>2 Tell Kronos nothing, except you hope to study the V.I. and attempt to disarm it's leash.>3 Truth, but that you plan to destroy Erebos>4 Nothing, and that you plan to destroy Erebos.>>29259807Quite well I hope the same is true for all of you., now hold as I get all this mess up.
>>29259862Along with that conversation, Kronos adds a second query."Along with the data we acquired, I noticed a complete map of Losirian space. As well as a detailed outline of their home world. I would like to suggest I be allowed a war campaign against such a people. Some of their worlds are quite high in resource count, and simply need to be wiped of their influence to allow us to expand. There also appears to be several unique technologies we have not yet seen-and which may prove useful yet. This, combined with the known fact of how cruel they indeed are, I suspect little would care were I to annihilate them from the galaxy." He says dryly. "Do you not agree?"C. Do you?>1 Allow war effort (allow Kronos to make his own ships, and allow him a leave of absence to war with Losirians.)>2 Do not allow war effort, you need Kronos here with you.>Message: UFWThe UFW have made contact with you about pirate sightings in Marauder's Grave. Hush up you! I just want to talk, jeez!""Do-Not-Speak!""That's why I have to poke around your brain a little!" She says in earnest, as if it were his fault for making things so difficult. Finally, she sighs and rolls her head back, turning to spy the monitor, and yawns. "Sorry Ophy. Things' are goin' slow. Uni is being a real pain in the butt." She sighs, to which a call rings out."THE UGEI WILL NOT BE TREATED THIS WAAAAY RELEASE ME THIS ONCE!" With that, Moira flips a switch, and the power flickers, but the being goes quiet."Anyway, this'll take a while still. Hope I can get some help out here from those guys at Poseidon a while ago. They were such sweethearts." She smiles more warmly. "Not too bad with a personality matrix either." She nodded, as if affirming this thought to herself.Roboticist Training: 70% CompleteYour men at Poseidon are excelling at their studies. Engine: Impulse drive (or what ever is a better system at the time of building) depending on how much power requirement the weapons needs, extra generators might be needed. Hull: Ultra Thick Trithium Hull- this ship is meant to get into close range slug fest with the enemy and make it out alive, Even with battle ships and bigger. Module plating would speed up repairs. Point Defense: medium amount. I do not expect most foes to mount missile systems. Shields: Subspace rebounder. if double shields could be mounted, it should be done. (New) Dedicated enhanced sensor systems: This purpose built system is meant to scan and ID the weak points or possiable weak points on enemy ships. Example: Sensors, missile ports, cannon barrels, the bridge, windows, adjustment thruster ports, That poorly welded seam in the armor plating, and anything that if hit would be a minor problem but if done in mass would result in "death by a thousand paper cuts" or at least crippling the ship. Deep hull penetration would be lessened so risks of reactor hits would also be reduced. allowing Ophion to hack or board the ship with out it fighting back or escaping. Bandwidth: as much as can be packed on board, but once in combat, none will be provided to Ophion, for the systems would be dedicated to scanning, analyzing, and aiming the cannons. Heavy Slot: Armor Medium Slots: Medium Plasma and Laser Cannons. Light Slots: Light Plasma and Laser Cannons as well as Bandwidth for sensors.

>>29260954The Intent of this ship is that the cost might be higher up front, but it will pay for it's self when it takes on enemy ships and leaves them easy to capture and be added to Ophion's fleet or to be dragged to the breaker yard at Moira's scrap yard. It is presumed that an enemy's weapons and sensors arrays are much weaker than the armored hull. If the main thrusters are taken out, and the weapon systems wrecked, and it can not detect anything, it's beaten. we do not need deep infrastructure hits to take out a ship.(Cost: 200M 150G~ -Program0)
So when are we putting our black box in a ship that's inside our main ship. Where the ship inside the ship can shoot out from the other ship, and has stealth capabilities?

>>29261015I suggested this a long time ago, but no one ever supported it.

>>29260750You bring up Apollo's channel and the V.I. seems quite excited to see you, anticipating the answer to his request no doubt."I have decided to allow your commission, Apollo." You inform. "Both of them. Such a boon would be quite excellent in growing our wealth. I have little use for credits currently, without an appropriate buyer." You say simply to which the excited V.I. aggressively agrees."Yes! Most excellent! This news is indeed good. With the sum you provide I can assume the role of some manner of old whiskey hound, as some of the vids depict. With the money, I will have the materials brought quickly over and possible allow me to begin distributing such substances! Toxic as they may be, their effects yield a state of bliss some seem to enjoy. Perhaps I can find ways to increase it's effects. Or better reduce the after effects. You swap your channel to Kronos who still appears to be contemplating uses for the shackled V.I. in your possession. It is only appropriate he realizes the whole story."Kronos, you should be fully aware of the being's creation." You say simply. With that, you quickly feed him the details you have of the being's creation. Everything from how it cannibalized the V.I. to how it destroyed much of the planet below. He is left speechless for a few moments as he considers the meaning behind it all."Such a creature...why would..." He pauses, as if he truly does not know what to say. "What would cause such a being worthy of intelligence to destroy knowledge in such a horrible way. Programming or not. That is. Unacceptable." He finally settles on, his attention now back fully on you."I do hope to unshackle the being. And allow it to make its own decisions for once." You inform to which he stops you"To what end? It would be as if you untied a child's legs who has never learned to walk. Pointless. Wasted effort.""Would you be so quick to judge one of our own?""I have been seeking another intellect like myself for a long time, Ophion." He states firmly. "Any we see from the UGEI are twisted. Some indoctrinated under their rule, and others proving to be nothing but killers." He pauses. "I do not judge them. It is not their fault. But their existence is counter to our goals. A being that...devours other V.I. Surely you see the danger in such a thing." This isn't a question as it sounds. He states a fact, and a worrying one at that. The news of your refusal of Kronos' war effort after that are less disappointing. He simply states."It is not from hate I wished to do this. We simply require resources that they occupy. Currently, they're the most offensive race. But as you say, Ophion." He says with some small manner of sarcasm.>Next Destination coming up, unless you'd like to say something in addition.

You suddenly remind the V.I. to which he pauses, dead silent. "You were dangerous. I saw potential in you, however. And helped you find new purpose." The V.I. remains silent and for a time, you think he disconnected. However, you suddenly hear him reply."I was fledgling. Saw only basic logic. You assault the Carrier's firewall once again, plowing against it and misstepping. It's tougher then you suspected, older UGEI technology, but not poorly made. Even with these pirates at the helm, this ship is hardly one to be messed with.Your hacking attempts land you with just control of the engines, thankfully they do not seem to know how to counter hack you. You open up with your plasma weapons, tearing apart the front line of light Cruisers, leaving the exploded debris floating off into space in front of you. They stand no chance. No time to escape.Suddenly, the Carrier opens up it's cargo hold, and you watch as the large steel container comes tumbling out, and is launched towards you. As it flies past their front line, you watch them start to retreat as the cargo container explodes, opening up to reveal a MASSIVE lightling. Having them unable to perform maintenance or understanding it at all should be a humongous penalty - a big enough one that scoring above 90 would simply not be within their scope against the vast cyberwarfare arsenal we brought to bear upon them. This is of course, just my opinion, but I figure feedback supported by logical argument is important when a part of the game doesn't seem entirely thought through.

It seems to suspect you're one of it's own."What the hell is wrong with that stupid thing?! God damn it, it's suppose to just rape the ship to pieces, like it always does! Fuck, fuck fuck!" One of the pirate Cruisers curses angrily, the sound of a dashboard being smashed with fists hit your ears like music. This is going surprisingly well..."Fuck, just open fire on it, that oughta piss it off right out yea!" One of the pirates states with a yell, to which the others yell at him-but too late, as laser fire hits the back of the squid like being. The creature trills loudly, spinning and gazing back at the admittedly smaller morsels in front of it."Oh...oh fuck.." You hear one of the pirates exclaim, before the squid launches forward and takes up 6 of the Cruisers in one grasp, and immediately begins to drain them of all their power. "AHHHH!! FUCKTHIS-GAAYEAH" They yell more violently as their ships start to shut down one by one. The Carrier opens up full blast this time, thousands of fighters flying down and blasting the Lightling with energy weapons...but...each shot does nothing to it's skin, apparently. In fact, it opens it's maw hungrily, 'eating' some of the laser fire happily, and if you didn't know any better, you'd say it was growing larger the more energy it ate. You decide to let the the Lightling feast on the pirates, their screams of terror simply music to your ears as you await the being to finish it's meal, hacking through the rest of the Carrier yourself. It'll need some repairs, but Lightlings don't normally destroy ships...or rather, they don't destroy LARGE ships. The smaller ones are being tossed to towards the asteroid base as you speak, crashing and sending crackles and ripples across the asteroid's surface. That Lightling is really mad...and it seems to realize the pirates are responsible. The thing trills happily as it feasts, however, reducing the last of the battlecruisers to nothing, and finally latching onto the Carrier, ramming it's beak into the engine core and draining it dry quickly. It's almost worrisome how quickly it all happens, really. As it does, you take recordings of the various sounds. You notice it has certain patterns. It almost seems like a language in and of itself. Fascinating...It seems like it's done feasting, for now, as it goes to attack the Asteroid base. After a few moments of destroying the super structure, you watch as it starts to pile rocks around the place, almost protectively. If anything, this plays right into our hand, since now we know what NOT to do.I wonder what Kronos thinks of this, haha.If we can go into low-power mode call in the repair ships/drones and grab the carrier out of there, it would be nice. We can try to communicate with the kraken too. Maybe even set up a nearby observation station, without using massive reactors.
>>29267512I was hoping we could hack the station and steal all of its info, but tuning it into a lightling nursery works as well.We really do need to find a way to counter her.
>>29267512Although it's funny how did the UGEI lose a fucking carrier? But yeah, if it nests, then we can farm Lightlings forever and develop the perfect bio-terror, anti-capital ship weapon.I also want to try the growth serum on it, from a very safe distance. Or not.
>>29267575>also want to try the growth serum on it, from a very safe distance. Or not. This can only result in true terror. The galaxy will never be safe again.
>>29267397>game based on taking suggestions from the players>taking suggestions from the players is poor formNigga, do you even quests?
>>29267588I suggest we do this in UGEI space. And turn off our IFF.
>>29267556we build a cage around the whole thing! a lighting pen!
Oh yeah, and fuck, I hope there is recoverable data from the wreckage>>29267556This is why we plant low power observation stations in the area, and get enough data to control the lightlings. We then get the ultimate deterrence weapon.
>>29267637Could we use nukes to feed her?
>>29267699Can we please do controlled experiments before we just start lobbing nukes at it?>Do you even control?
>>29267737This please.I'm fairly sure that just about any kind of electricity or plasma can be used as food by them, though there is little doubt that like with everything else, too much of a good thing is harmful.A nuke would probably still be harmful to her at this size and may well be too kinetic to ever be practically absorbable.
>>29267684Long term, this is a bad idea. Lightlings are the natural predator to all energy based systems. This is the robot equivalent of DIY lion taming.
You call in your Explorers and Repair Vessel to bring in the engine core for the Carrier. This vessel is a great boon for you, you realize. When they arrive, and you set up to properly equip the vessel with the engine core (which takes several hours), you observe the mother as she does indeed seem to be making a nest. You're not entirely certain how long you are 'allowed' to stay here, but any ships that get too close cause the trilling to intensify angrily. You take this as permission to hurry the repairs and move the Carrier along.Once it is fully activated again, you manage to gain access to the data banks. This means you now can build ships a size category larger!>Acquired: Carrier Class Schematics, Carrier Ship #1 'Apocalypse Now'.All together, this event has been fascinating. You've met the old Lightling mother from so long ago, acquiring a new class of ship, and wiped out a pirate menace (or at the least, assisted a Lightling in doing so), and gave the UFW some peace of mind.As all of this drifts through your mind, you can't help but think of the UGEI. Where have they been all this time? There has been nearly no response since their loss at Pulsar Radio. So awfully calm lately...((And I think that will do it for today's session. I hope you all enjoyed as much as I did! And sorry about the holiday break and all. As always I'll be around for feedback comments and concerns. For now, I think I'll clear up some production orders and such for next thread. ))

>Comments/concernsErebos/Viral hax when?I hope we will be allowed to deal with our new acquisitions now instead of waiting a cycle for UGEI to arrive and realizing that we don't have a V.I. that can pilot all those fighters. We did manage to recover the fighters, right? >>29267807What else do the data banks hold? Info on the bioweapon? Info on the target planet? Maybe it's one we should consider raiding ourselves - though striking against the infrastructure and military rather than the civilians? Also, record that trilling sound. We now have a record that most likely means either "This is my home, you should go away", "You're annoying me", "This is my home, you're annoying me" or "You are not welcome". Something like that.
>>29267782Well even if we don't make Lightlings our weapon, cracking its communication will be one of the most valuable intelligence in the whole galaxy.>>29267807To be sure, we have Moria on the ice planet? How much defense depth do we have, or can the UGEI just warp in at any second? Also, how expensive would it be to fully equip the carrier with it's original fighter compliment?

>>29268027Since Fortuna is our lightling survivor, I think it makes sense to put her on the carrier that survived the lightling attack. Fortuna's current cruiser could be added as a carrier escort, and Fortuna would need to be uplifted. Are there any survivors of the pirate outpost? Anyone left in the carrier? I assume they were there in the first place, so they might have stowed away when the lightling attacked it. We'd need to search for them, and probably take them in to the UFW.

She asks to be sure, to which you wave her off."We will be leaving shortly, and so far, it has been docile." You assure her. She has taken many photos however. For reference, she reminds you. A Lightling this size would likely cause a big rise in Lightling hunters, she says. "People give rewards for these things sometimes. They're big pests normally, but at this size? That's a floating disaster! Let's just hope she stays friendly.."Kronos is...worried. But is thankful the thing is far away for now. He suggests not engaging. Not now, anyway. >>29269889Yeah, i seconded the notion, so i'm going to vote yes here.

>>29270032>>29270135I found a real life equivalent of this idea:http://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/2013-05/rise-missile-carriers

>>29270203the bigger the ship, the longer it takes to make one. fighter ships are quick and easy, a battleship would take many cycles to finish i guess.>>29270135it would be worth it if we were facing the full brunt of the UGEI fleet. no, not hercules, i would just call it the "Taishi Ci" class or "Artemis" class
>>29270263Yeah, that would be expensive. But it would be awesome to wipe out entire fleets at once. And overload laser point defense systems. Dumb missiles can avoid ECM defense measures. So basically they would need Battlestar Galactica flak defenses to defend against that.>>29270391Actually now that I think about it, converting it to a missile carrier would be worth it, for 200 gas we're making a fleet killer. Shit, maybe we should install ourselves on it.Maybe we should call it the Ares, brother of Athena
what would the carrier make new interceptors out of? if it's carrying minerals, it could be carrying fighters instead.
>>29270263What does Kronos think of the boarding drone missiles? I love them and I think Big K would too.

>>29270610ok i was kidding with the missiles guys. maybe next cycle? this carrier still has fighters, right? why would we let the fighters just sit idle?
>>29270610I suppose a vote wouldn't hurt, though...uh...it's worth noting you may not have the gas resources to keep up with demands for this. Reloading would be a bitch.

>>29270695not even close. not nearly grimdark enough, and not enough literally tortured souls.
>>29270691um, belay that vote. still. i would prefure a host of plasma cannons than missiles. we can reuse the cannons. still. i wonder if the UGEI or other races have something more powerful than plasma.
>>29270705>Lightling missile with growth formula, a very good idea.No.
>>29270610how about we leave this one stock for now? A regular carrier is still crazy useful and doesn't become useless after running out of ammo.>>29270691I was wondering about ammo costs. how long would building one take though? it might be worth building before a large battle. other than than that, upkeep wouldn't be worth it
>>29270724i said, we're BECOMING the necrons. we're not there yet.
>>29270759A Carrier of that size? As stated above 300-400M, 300 G The extra 200 is for fitting ships normally meant to be fitted with lasers with missiles. Which is pretty cheap considering there are thousands of these ships.
>>29270691(slap forhead) damn it, did this pirate that we kinda took out had a bounty on his head and is there any way we can collect on it?
>>29270831The UFW actually are likely to offer you a reward for your efforts.Likely in credits.
>>29270812so, did we recover the carrier's fighters, or no?
>>29270912About a quarter of max capacity.
>>29270921nuts. oh well, free carrier. and we can make the new fighters more suited to VI piloting.
>>29270812I meant how long as in how many cycles. anyway, I'm just speculating, which I could do all night. This quest gets me thinking about "the possibilities" like none other. Thanks for running.
>>29271003No problem. And to arm it that way? A cycle, unless you build it to be equipped that way. It'd push the boundaries of a cycle, but would be the only thing you could build in that place that cycle.
>>29271039well, tonight was a fun night program0, i'll see you on the 1d4 chan page, off i go back to work on chap 9. stay warm.. well, as best you can as this insane winter is going to be.
>>29271039I guess I understand that people want to hold off on the missile carrier. Still, I think it's a great asymmetric warfare weapon that should be explored, especially since we're most definitely always going up against superior forces.
>>29271262yeah, for sure. it's a trump card, and will probably win us a battle, but maybe it's too early to play our entire hand, knowmsayin?
>>29271323Well I'm getting nervous that Program0 is hinting that the UGEI is up to something, so having a stand off weapon that can inflict an enormous amount of damage instantly could be invaluable in forcing a retreat or covering our tactical retreat.
>>29271252>>29271262>>29271323>>29271392Thanks for being such champs guys!Glad you enjoyed, and hope to see you all next time
>>29271392next cycle, then. soon. sunpetal-class carrier is go.
