You have decided to hunt monsters, congratulations! No longer shall you toil in fields all your life for but a loaf of bread! You live an exciting, short, but exciting life where you are called upon when those foul abominations are too much for simple militia to handle for the kings and lords often care not for their subjects being butchered in the dark alleys and forested outskirts. You know.. Hunters often become icons, celebrities. Maybe a simple farm boy like you can become like them? You just have to live long enough...As a fresh faced young lad with but a few sparce hairs on your chin, you step out of the door. Wondering where your life will take you.And take you it has! Your friends a werewolf, theres a coven of were-beasts infecting towns and villages and you just survived your first hunt but failed to kill anything! Good for you! Youve survived your second night, failed to help some poor person locked in a cellar and read a barbarians diary instead, You truly are the pinnacle of adventuring____________Equipment;Fathers hatchetCrude hand-made wooden shieldComfortable clotheshunting knifeCamping gear(Cloak, tent, wool mat to sleep on, flask)15 copper pieces____________Traits;Blank book- the first skill you devote yourself to learning shall be learned with easeScrawny- if you do not roll higher than needed on a strength roll you will fail itLithe- Hey, youre good at running away!Werewof ecology- Adept at killing werewolvesInfamy- word travels fast, people are less likely to trust you and will charge you higher for goods and services
You put the gloomy woods behind you, seperating the prior nights events from your mind. Nope, no midnight horror, no bloody corpse, not screaming. Just a good nights rest! You shield your eyes from the sun, not to gather the time but for comfort. The warm rays encompassing you. You close your eyes as you stride, this is really nice you muse. One foot in front of the other, all alone on your trail to Rusnan you really shouldve gone for long walks like this when you were younger, its so soothing! As the morning drags on you whistle a tune, okay, maybe long walks are a little boring. You let your mind wander and once again it strays torwards your future and your heroics, death has become closer to you than it ever has in your life the past few days and desptie this it still seems to be a bit of a foreign concept. Death it seems should have come for you, especially given last nights events but yet it hasnt, It almost seems like an impossible concept. However some small part of your brain is happy to remind you that youre every bit as mortal as the one who died last night. You find your throat a little dryerIt seems however that youve come upon Rusnan at last, you certainly expected to hear it before you saw it, the cry of children the laughter of their fathers the bustle of trade. And it would appear that the only one besides you in Runan is the sun splayed out across the water___________You may;1)Investigate2)Call out 3)user input

You frown, this cant possibly be good. Did everything have to go horrible the second you decided to become a hunter? Regardless you step forward, surely theres just.. Some sort of festival, yes, thats it! A festival and theyre off celebrating elsewhere! You call out again, still no response. You unsheathe your fathers hatchet, giving it a few test swings as well as rolling your shoulders and taking a few deep breaths, basically anything to stall for time. But time is all you have and so you must walk forward into the ghost town but as you look around it seems as empty as it was in the distance, a few doors were left ajar, you make a note to check those out later. You quickly find yourself approaching town square, rusnan seems a fair bit bigger than you remember but then again you were a child the last time you were, the thought forces a small spiteful laugh out of you, people still call you a child now. But that dash of anger was enough to bolster your confidence and surge you forward, but what do you do? The place appears abandoned, you look torwards the lake and then torwards the town hall. You never were any good with mysteries___________You may;1)Investigate the dock2)Investigate the buildings3)Investigate town hall4)User input

Surely there must be something at those houses right? Right? It only made sense, you head forwards dimly aware at how exposed you are, youre starting to miss the open trail more and more. Maybe thats why hunters never stayed in town long? It was too.. Cramped? Too much that they werent in control of? You didnt really want to be like -that- towns were nice! They had food and drink and people best of all! You reckon people are better than monsters any day, well, most of them. You remember a few stories of some men that were in fact legally labeled as monsters by high order of the king. Your parents never would tell you what sort of crime youd have to commit to get that sort of punishment.Your thoughts keep you busy until you reach the houses, you hold out a hand to knock but quickly feel foolish and instead open the door fully. Shying away from the door a bit just in case some sort of creature came barreling out of there. Thankfully it seems youve lucked out and arent maimed and killed yet. Yet. You peer inside and discover that its just someones home, a few pieces of furniture knocked down but no blood, no monsters. Theres a door leading further into the home_________You may;1)Investigate further2)Check out the other homes3)Head to the docks4)Visit the townhall5)User input

>>27990307You flex your hand a bit and tighten the grip on your hatchet. Its time to get brave, and that time is now! You step further into the home and it is only now that you notice how creepy it is to be in anothers home when that home is abandoned. Especially considering this is fairly recent. You step over furniture and dig through their possessions for a clue to anything that happened here, you come up empty, short of some salted meat that you quickly scarf down. Hunting is hungry work after all! With the main room thoroughly scavenged youre left with the door. You once again tense yourself up, a hunter must never be caught off guard! but yet again nothing leaps out at you youre beginning to wonder if that was just a rumour because this is getting old. A monster may not have leaped at you but the sudden change in scenery has! This home apparently leads to a cave of some sort, lit torches adorning the limestone walls to give you bit of vision in the darkness. Well this is wonderful, a pitch black cave. >>27990471You sigh, surely youre not going into this cave, right? Right you, youre going into this cave, youre walking to your death dear god youre going to die. But down you go, your knuckles whitening, matching your pale face, you leave your shield behind for youll have to carry a torch to even hope to see anything down here. As you wrest it from its holding place you have to admit, the fire does make you feel safer. Its like a little sun that you hold in your hand, and monsters are afraid of the sun. This is what you tell yourself as you head downwards into the caves, the once wooden staircase leading way to harsh ground, its honestly hard to get proper footing. You can hear... Sounds. You quite honestly cant place it. Of course any and all sounds will echo through this cave system. There could be any manner of creature down here. Your throat tightens. The wall of darkness ahead seems to be threatening to swallow you with every step, Your eyes strain against it but you just cant pick any detail out of the inky blackness. More sounds come your way, It almost sounds like a mumble, a chant of some sort. However another sound rings true, distinct and unmistakeable, the sound of claws against stone and it sounds right next to you.._________1)Shout a warcry, Youre to be feared!2)Swing at the darkness, damned monsters!3)User input

>>27990746>ready your axe, swing the torch toward the thing near us, and scream "I AM RAGNAR"
>>27990767You take an offensive stance, youve had enough with running and hiding, its time to fight for once in your miserable life! "Show yourself!" You shout. swinging your torch about to glean some sort of information of the creatures whereabouts. Suddenly your encapsulated in darkness, your torch has gone out! You back up as fast as you can, nearly stumbling over yourself. And then... A laugh, a very human laugh that turns into a slow cackle. A pale orb appears and rises higher, its far too bright to be some creatures eye. You lift your axe to strike whatever dares come close. But it appears to be pointless for the orb suddenly crumples upon itself and ignites into a pale light. You shield your eyes from the sudden light, however weak it may be. When you open them again there is a man standing before you, his hair long and white and his skin nearly mirroring his hair. A carefully trimmed beard adorning his chin and what is quite possibly the most expensive looking attire you could imagine, his clothing seems to be made of the finest silk, he practically shimmers in the orbs light. He crosses his arms and his smile widens has his laugh turns into a cackle, his canines elongated into fangs, he seems happy to inform you of his nature. "my, my what do we have here? You know it was awful rude to wake me, i could hear your heavy footsteps if i were dead! Well, anymore that i am.." He seems so utterly amused that you have come here for he cant seem to calm his fits of laughter. His form suddenly disappears, fading into nothingess. You find a weight on your back and the vampire reappears, holding a hand to your neck, his nails elongated into claws. "My, what a strong pulse you have. You must taste delightful!"You stiffen. If you dont act, he might kill you.. but he might also do the same if you do.________1)Negotiate2)Attack! The thing touched me!3)User input

His manic laughter resumes "Did you..? Did you really just hit me with that? Oh gods you mortals are hilarious!" You grimace, you were really hoping for a fiery death, not one of laughter. You back up against a wall, determined not to let him get behind you again. You glare at him through the dim lighting but he merely walks forward, politely clapping."No, really! Good show! The struggle for life is always a fun game. Do continue!" And he disappears once more. Damned vampires. You get the feeling that it was not the last youll be seeing of him but it appears that hes let you be for now and as a bonus, his orb of light appears to be following you. Maybe youll find out what happened to the townsfolk now? You look ahead, two pathways. Lovely. Which one will you take?________1)Left2)Right

The light follows you dutifully but you wish it would be ahead instead of behind, you can barely see anything! You notice the shift in gravity inclining downwards. You reason that youve gone the right way, surely whatever mystery need be solved is furthest into this god forsaken cave?Down and down you go, this really is quite tedious. The light illuminates enough that the darkness no longer preys on your paranoia, atleast in these restricted tunnels that lead further down until however.. you reach an empty expanse in front of you. Creeping forward you make sure to check every possible angle for ambush, this caution thing is starting to grow on you, makes you feel a little more competent, like a real hunter. And much like a real hunter you find yourself in peril once more, a coffin lays in the center of this room, you cant believe that you took the left path, apparently it did matter. The vampire probably wouldnt be pleased to find you in here but on the other hand he might have something of value in here.Your amulet warms slightly.________1)Investigate his room! >>27991536>>27991566Its about time you did something manly and heroic and oh god youre going to die. Nonetheless you drop pretense of safety and dig around the vampires room. His coffin seems as expensive as his attire, this too lined with silk. What is it with vampires and silk anyways you ponder, all the stories have vampires and silk. Is their skin sensitive or something? No time for musing however because youre going to run out of time, what if hes watching you right now? Youve seen him go invisible before! You rush between objects of note, a few pots here, a drawer there hell youve even checked his coffin out a bit and its starting to seem like youve risked your life for naught.Until that is that you come to the end of the room where another coffin lay. This one however, inhabited. Next to this coffin lays some sort of, well alchemical station. Poultices and herbs, gems and flesh, all manners of things, a ring of ingredients seems to surround this dead man. and it is then that you discover the source of it. This corpse was once a holy man and adorning his hand is a ring with some sort of symbol, clearly holy and clearly keeping the vampire away from his body._______1)Take the ring2)Investigate the holy mans coffin3)User input

You examine every little detail that you can, first the casket itself and then the body, he hasnt decided to come alive and bite you yet and he doesnt appear to to have anything in his pockets. You lift his body up to check under him and it is there that you find a small journal, Written in neat cursive. >>27991869You calm yourself, surely the vampire would have shown up by now, he must be off doing something else. You keep an eye on the holy mans corpse, just in case he was faking all along before turning back to his journal. The journal recounts the tale of "sully" Apparently he was the hunter of Rusnan, And it would appear, that Rusnan had a bit of a vampire problem all those years ago and sulimen, then a humble priest asked the gods to show him a way, any way to save the people of the town. It was then that his wifes ring, usually kept on his pedestal as a reminder fell off and rolled in front of him. He had the blacksmith alter it in shape of the divines and submerged it in holy water, sanctions, prayers and litanys.Eventually the ring itself had become a focal point for holy energy, the gods were pleased with his worship and granted him power so long as he wore the ring, not only protecting him from the demonic and the unholy but destroying them upon contact as well. Rusnan enjoyed a golden age under Sulimen until he died of natural causes. In his book he laments his inability to foster a squire and prays that the village will remain safe.It would appear that he did not pray hard enough, looking up from your book you come face to face with the vampire. No mirth in his eyes but only rage, his lips curled into a feral snarl. his bones cracking and rearranging as his human body formed into something far more beastial but his eyes never strayed from yours. You find yourself, back to a wall with one of the deadliest creatures known to man. You arent dead just yet, you open your eyes a fraction, the amulet on your chest burning against your skin. His orb of light has gone out but there is the faintest of lights surrounding you, you can see the abomination struggling against the holy shield Its not even close to human anymore, its muscles bulging under the skin, its mouth split open into rows of teeth, gnashing against each other, fingers becoming claws, dark wings sprouting for its back. Youve dropped your hatchet in your panic to grab the holy mans arm, grimly you note that its outside the shield. Suddenly the light vibrates and shudders, the vampire has taken to mauling the shield, punching and clawing and howling oh gods the terrible howling. The shield likely wont last long.
