Trade is lucrative. The UFW have become valuable trading partners of yours, it would seem, however it is no mystery to you they are not much of a galactic presence in comparison to a economic giant such as the UGEI, who have proven rather hostile to anyone who may threaten their mining operation. You're Ophion, an Artificial Intelligence who has expanded over much of the Fringe since you've awakened with the help of your own personal army of Virtual Intelliences. One in particular, Kronos, has come to be under your wing to learn from you and grow his knowledge. Last cycle you encountered a large ship of unknown origin with mysterious aliens onboard. After a climactic battle, you looted the remains, and issued out orders to your bases.Red has joined the Malorians on Eshareth, as you requested, and suggested alcohol trade with them. The small religious group refused the offer however. The UFW have contacted you in regards to a large energy spike they detected during your fight with the Derelict. >>27939470Duranthium Armor Plating: A type of armor that is composed of various different alloys, meant to last against much strain, but be reasonably inexpensive at the same time. While armor is never a bad thing to have, it is most effective at decreasing the impact made by mass drivers and any manner of rail gun, one of the more popular weapons in the galaxy.ECM Point Defense: Meant specifically to interfere with the guidance systems used by inter-ship missiles, this defense has little use beyond this. However, since missile weapons are one of the most damaging forms of weapons, some would say this is enough. Relatively inexpensive compared to the cost of missile weapons.Superior Shields: Using similar technology available to laser weapons, this type of defense focuses lasers into an area to deflect and stop incoming danger. Most effective at stopping energy weapons, this shield is also useful for protecting a ship from space debris.

You open fire on BC#3 and listen to the wonderful cry of the Losirian sharkmen as their ship explodes all around them. Your missiles tear holes in the hull and blow chunks of armor and sections of the ship erupt into further explosions. You watch as the Tractor Beam is disabled, flickering off finally, as the ship itself goes dark. They may not need oxygen to survive, but they can't use a broken ship all the same! You pick up a signal from the remaining fleet, no doubt a string of insults somehow, as a barrage of missiles head right for Big Tim.The ship is free from the tractor beam, but it's engines aren't working, leaving it open to a direct assault. The explosions tear through Big Tim, and V.I. 5"Creator." It attempts to bellow through the static and juttering of it's own ship collapsing in on itself. "Primary Function. Failed. I have. Failed."The barrage tears what remains of the ship apart, leaving you to take revenge on the remaining ships. You can feel Moira go silent, as well as Kronos. "They are powerful." Is all he says in response. How do you wish to proceed?

You watch as the two dark ships close in, their weapons apparently more effective at close range. Luckily for you, so is yours. BC 1 moves in, it's sharkmen bellowing laughs through it's comms at you and demands, you suspect. Whatever their meaning, it does not matter. You power up the lance, and it seems they detect the power spike. For a moment, it looks as if they will attempt to dodge, but this thought is quickly disspelled as they power their shields to max to defend from whatever is coming. It is not enough. The lance finally explodes outwards once your reactor reaches critical levels, the energy all focused into a single beam of energy which cuts straight through the BC's shields. It easily bores into the bridge and earns a satisfying eruption of explosions throughout the entire ship. It does not get sliced in half, as with the derelict, but it's close, as the ship slowly blows itself apart. The final BC does not seem to enjoy it's new odds, but your fellow V.I. seem dedicated to shooting the threat out of the sky. A barrage of missiles and rail fire tear through space at a surprising angle. you note your bandwidth has temporarily increased to improve this shot's aim. It is then you notice Kronos' absence, despite your requests for his attention. The explosions rock the BC, as it's engines are left dead, and it opens fire to defend itself, bouncing mostly harmlessly off your shields.Kronos returns after the short absence and states. "They must not escape."

>>27942777"It is not important, Ophion." He explains. You detect, however, that his bandwidth that is his consciousness blacked out for a mere moment right as those missiles were fired. "Focus, the ship is not yet destroyed."You open fire with your fleet, while your BC recovers from the Lancer attack. Your shots focus in on the ships weapons, reducing the hulk to drift through space. The planetary defenses have stopped firing on the vessel as well, registering them as 'dead' for all intents and purposes. You reach UFW comm platform, a mostly destroyed wreck, along with their orbital defense station, but manage to hack in and speak with every fleeing citizens, locking out the Losirians. It takes you several coordinated efforts, but your calm, if not exactly comforting voice keeps them moving until you're able to find an extraction ship and save much of the population while the sharkmen loot the settlement. You send Red the note that he should simply be a middle man, as you promised, and that further trade is not of concern right now.You begin to pick through the debris of your lost Cruiser. You spend quite a while looking through the remains, pinging for V.I. 5's signal. But you receive nothing. The explosion tore apart the bridge, and as a result, his data core. His last words haunt you, how he failed you. Concerning. He was simply limited by his hardware, as any cyber being is. No blame should be placed there. You would guess that Kronos agrees. Moira finally speaks up."I'm sorry honey. I know you.. care about your V.I." She expresses sadly, leaning on her databoard. "It must be like losing a friend." She relates. Odd, you're not certain you would qualify the being as a 'friend'. But you would not simply call it a tool either. >>27944306It depends on what you refer to as 'expendable' Consciousness anon. Matter can't simply be made from nothing. Can you make simple, inexpensive, remote controlled fighters? Certainly. >>27944289You find an article relating to Nuclear weapons and their capabilities. Your knowledge of atomic science is rather limited, but it would seem that the smallest pieces of the universe are capable of wrecking intense destruction. You can certainly see why humans dislike the use of such a weapon. However, beyond the raw destructive power, you do not believe radiation would harm your circuits. Therefore, you have little reason to fear the weapon.

>>27944391They don't? It's not as if anon would play them. There would simply be stories about them.>>27944419Very much so. Specifically in planetary engagements. Nukes are, normally, too slow to impact properly in space.
>>27944306do you know something other than google based systems? i have a revulsion to useing them, but my reasons is rather /pol/ so i'll shut up about it. tac.. or should we say tie fighters? we could. but we will need a carrier to haul them around. not worth it now. we DO need to make normal human sized attack troops/drones. we can't land on planet sides to help any one or take colonies.
>>27944400Would said fighters be agile enough to evade later ship defenses? There is appeal in swarming ships with insufficient point defenses. Or would missiles be more effective? One idea I like is using targeting beacon drones. Attach them to enemy ships, and they provide targeting solutions to our ships! How about neutron bombs? It would be nice to wipe out organics without harming ourselves (or valuable materials)Or radiation weapons in general? Ones that can overcome regular shielding?
>>27944465How about atmospheric drones? Pinpoint precision (at least compared to orbital bombardment) and can also provide targeting solutions for large targets appropriate to bombardment.

>>27944462 Rachel is not a fighter, she would tend to hang out with Moira when she is working on Tech upgrades, but will go where it is safe if she can. Moira has much more exprience however.
>>27944490Even small ships may be outfitted with later defenses, though their size means larger ships will always have an advantage over them damage wise. They would be fast enough to avoid incoming damage, yes.Missiles do the most damage. Fighters would serve to help tie up an enemies weapons, mostly, or to intercept enemy Fighters/bombers.Bombers are good against ship hardpoints.Targetting beacon is...interesting. Provided the chance it gets shot too, it is certainly a possibility.((I am unfamiliar with how Neutron bombs would work.))Nukes, as mentioned above, would indeed be more hazardous to organic life, then to you.>>27944523Likely, such a thing would be similar to ground droids, except they're designed to fly through various types of atmosphere. It would likely be a heavy modification.>>27944550EMP would indeed fry your systems.I am unfamiliar, personally, with the specifics, but at the very least, it would leave you helpless.>>27944555What about it? Dropping nukes on colonies? Because that would be terrible of you to do to the poor humans, Consciousness anon.Entirely possible though.
>>27944555just drop an asteroid, cheaper that way for us.>>27944566thanks! really, it does mean a lot to me. >>27944490it's cheaper to use missiles anyway.
>>27944624Well, I know what we're going to do in the next few threads...>>27944652You have no flair. No vision of genius.
>>27944624How much does it cost to create a Cruiser, and how quickly can we pump them out?
>>27944624yes, i know about nuke's effects rather well.a neutron bomb will make a blast radius but a bit smaller than a regular a-bomb. HOWEVER, it will pump out instantious deadly gamma rays that fries organics. also, ALL nukes generate a huge EMP burst that wrecks electronic equipment. radition might not hurt us, but THAT will. but if the blast is on the planet serface we will be much safer if we're in orbit from it.
>>27944722I would say perhaps, 3 or so each cycle.Cost depends on how you wish it to be 'equipped'.Battlecruisers and Heavy Cruisers are suited for War, while Light Cruisers are faster and more maneuverable.Price ranges.Cruiser: 125-300M, 100-200G
>>27944755I was not aware. This is good to know.
>>27944566hmm, do we need carriers? Most sci-fi settings usually make most large ships generalists instead of being specialized. Don't we have enough space for fighters in our BC? Or can we convert our cargo ships to store and support fighters. The reason I want fighters so much because in most sci-fi settings operate in a trifecta between fighters/bombers, destroyers, and battleships. Fighters defend against fighters and bombers and swarm BC with bombers. Destroyers screen BC against bombers and fighters. And BC take out destroyers and other BC, although taking out BC should be the bombers job.
>>27944812A ship that specializes in being a Carrier is generally very large, and as a result can carry a lot more then your standard ship can.Non-Carriers, while still able to carry fighters and the like, may not have the advanced systems required to quickly repair damaged fighters, and the like. Not to mention not being able to carry as many.
Actually, I think a space nukes don't produce an EMP. You need an atmosphere to do so.http://cosmoquest.org/forum/showthread.php?138893-Nukes-in-space-and-EMPhttp://www.askamathematician.com/2011/11/q-why-do-a-nuclear-weapons-cause-emps-electromagnetic-pulses/
>>27944793we should build with the best tech we got. would a cruiser be able to use the "widow maker" cannon? carriers and the fighters are probably more useful in huge navel battles or a large targets. (think the first Star War movie)
>>27944897Yeah, the widow maker cannon seems to work really well.>>27944793Do we have manufacturing capacity to produce BC? Or capital ships? What would we require to scale up that high? Also, what class of ship is considered the sweet spot between cost and effectiveness?
>>27944876Well, this has been a very informative thread. Thank you Consciousness Anon, I feel my brain growing as we speak>>27944897Light Cruisers are too small to use the cannon, and quite frankly, you're uncertain how to put the weapon in other ships. Given the proper knowledge, you may be able to attempt such a thing however, but it is worth keeping in mind that Two Ton Terry is built around the Widow Maker. The widow Maker isn't built into Two Ton Terry.
>>27944876If that's the case, attaching a warhead to a faster missile might be a fairly good idea.
>>27944942The largest ship you may produce is a Battlecruiser at this time. You require Advanced Shipyards to build anything larger.General army sizes use Frigates as the builk of their fleets, with Cruisers decorating much of the escort class ships, and finally with the leads being Battleships and the like, With a single Flag or Capital Ship to be the HQ.
>>27944952How do shields work in this setting? From reading past threads, it seems that they absorb both energy and kinetic damage. Are they a single layer of enveloping energy? Could we potentially have multiple layers? What about a 'scale' approach, which would involve multiple, yet far smaller, over-lapping shield segments?
>>27944462I've never seen a player's character in a quest. It could probably work, as long as you have complete control over the character, and treat any conflicting fan stories (even the creator's) as non canon. Personally, I'm not fond of the character he came up with, but it's your call.Just my 2c.
>>27944988Shields are a projected screen of force around the outer layer of the ship, resisting incoming damage in all forms. they're most effective against laser weaponry, since they disperse the energy across the entire surface, but struggle with more direct weapons. Railguns fire piercing shots, which the shield is too thin to deal with much of the time. The explosive energy behind a missile is much harder to disperse as well. They still work against other energy types, but they have their focus too.Upgraded Shielding types add additional layers of shield, and the like.
>>27944958The flip side is that nukes in space suck compared to nukes in atmosphere, because physics. But I guess still better than conventional explosives, if more expensive.
>>27945034For the sake of the quest, I wouldn't tailor to fan made content, no. I am however flattered and since I was asked, don't mind throwing a little thing such as this out there. There are so many people Ophion has come into contact with, after all.
>>27945043>forceenergy, that is.
>>27944812>hmm, do we need carriers?Probably not. Maybe later. Fighters don't seem useful at the moment.>>27944793It seems we need to find a new source of vespene gas.Still, we should be able to afford to build a Heavy Cruiser. But we could wait a little bit until Kronos/Moira are done with design optimizations. If I read correctly, the redesign is happening as per >>27944199It'll let Kronos have a little bit of stake in the fleet as well, even though our stakes are literally the same.
>>27944952that sounds like the A-10 thunderbolt air to ground fighter plane. it was built around it's GUA-10 vulcan cannon that eats up tanks like pop corn.my fancreation character is ment towork parallel with this quest threads, but if he want to do anything to her, i'll accept it. but with our focus on what we do, she'll probably just get a walk on role and be in the back ground. i can create other characters for Program0 to use later as well.
>>27945214That won't be necessary, though I appreciate the offer. It parallel sort of thing, I was thinking yes. To not upset too many.
I have a question for the anon who created the 'factions' pastebin. Are you still around?
>>27945321yes, i'm here
>>27945214Yeah, that's what I thought too. I wonder if it's possible to create an economical ship design around the widowmaker?
>>27945365I seem to have forgotten that it was you as well. I meant to thank you for the faction work out. I...also seem to have forgotten whatever my question was. Regardless, it's pretty handy.>>27945369If it was a battleship, perhaps so.
And a message to all others. You anons must be the luckiest anons in all of tg. I've never seen so many 70+ rolls in all my life.
>>27945499i will make an updated one ready for your quests. it should save you time and posts to explain them and time for new readers to get caught up quickly. i do hope a friendly draw anon shows up and creates a star map for us.
>>27945499Figures. What are Frigates like? Moderate firepower and uses numbers for combat effectiveness? Are Cruisers and Battleships much more durable and armored?
>>27945548I attempted to create such a starmap recently...however I failed utterly unfortunately.
>>27945531i am shocked by it as well, and scared. call me superstitous but a fear we'll have to pay into the karma bank for those high rolls some day.
>>27945553Frigates are relatively inexpensive and serve as proper escort vehicles. Meant to soak up more damage for a fleet by numbers. They're moderate in most fields.
>>27945570To be fair, the BCs rolled 3 90+s themselves, but all the same.
>>27945587now that i think about it, stealth ships are the "submarines" of the space fleet?
>>27945619You have yet to encounter such a ship, but they may exist. However, if they do, they likely are either very expensive, or have a very specific mission
>>27944972>You require Advanced Shipyards to build anything larger.Just got here, and...From thread 12, one anon said that the Ion Storm System would make an EXCELLENT place for a secret base.I have to say, I concur. We need to combine poseidon station and moira's scrapyard into one composite factory/scrapyard/shipyard station first - this frees up a comm bouy BTW due to consolidation - and then build an advanced shipyard and defenses in the nebula.
>>27945531Yeah, tonight was pretty rockin. It's a shame we lost a VI and failed the hacking attempts, but considering the alien nature of the enemy and the superior forces we were up against, we did great!
>>27945645I have a question regarding Space Fighters - didn't some of the pirates have some (that we may have inherited through hacking), and also a description of moira's scrapyard said there were damaged ones there.I was wondering if there was any sort of Carrier type ship in anyone's arsenal, or if any of the larger ships have a hangar bay nobody is using. I think it was implied the BC had shuttle bays or whatnot.in any case, it seems like we have a massive shortcoming when it comes to fighters/interceptors - and a good deal of potential improvement space by removing the pilot.
>>27945652Can we please scout out the ion storm before committing anything anything to it?
>>27945705Thats a good idea!Lets continue project: Communicate with the lightlings!
>>27945652While this may be true, you require a gas refinery for such a thing. You currently don't have one, unfortunately, however that may change should you engage against the UGEI.You do not have Advanced Shipyard Schematics, I am afraid. Previous consensus appears to be to move Poseidon to Eshareth, a very rich asteroid field.>>27945669Indeed you did. I was pleased that you focused fire after a while, this is good when facing such a foe. Especially when dealing with high DPS vessels.>>27945696Big Tim did have a team of Fighters onboard. They were destroyed in the blast, however.Moira's Scrapyard has many junked ships of the type. They're normally far too heavily damaged however for use.All of your ships have free cargo space, as of now I do believe. So fitting them with Fighters is quite possible, if you have the schematics.>>27945705But Consciousness anon, you've already scouted the field, relatively anyway. As far as you are aware, the planet's gravity well is clear of danger beyond the field itself.
>>27945746you did note that there are some dead UGEI ships in the ion storm near Siren, we might have to go drag them out some how.
>>27945803Indeed I did.GodyesFirefly
Ok, it's up, finally.http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Quest:A.I._QuestI will be adding things to itIt's a lot more handy than pastebin.
>>27945746>But Consciousness anon, you've already scouted the field, relatively anyway. As far as you are aware, the planet's gravity well is clear of danger beyond the field itself.Actually, -mapping- the ion storm is probably a good idea. There's bound to be plenty of lost vessels relatively intact with only their reactors torn out for us to find. The 'danger' problem lies less in the fact that the ion storm a native habitat for lightlings, and more that lightlings have built-in biological jump drives.Scouting the area isn't enough. Lightlings don't have to be there to have the mom pop back in later.Moving into the area is going to require a) static, overlapping defenses, and b) regular patrols are a good idea.c) studying the ion storm phenomena is a good way to harden our systems vs emp damage, and develop robust VI fighters that can handle the nebula for when they have to DIVE DIVE DIVE HIT YOUR BURNERS, PROGRAM
>>27945824Oh dear...that's really usefulDo other quests use 1d4chan? I've never used it before.
>>27945824WOW! thanks! that is good for the numbers and such, but i'll keep to the paste bin for my weekly summery updates.
>>27945843That is indeed a positive idea Consciousness anon.
>>27945843>DIVE DIVE DIVE HIT YOUR BURNERS, PROGRAMFFFFuuuuuuuuuuck youuu!Alright. So that's what we're doing. Shivan Tactics up all in dis bitch, bitchin black and red color scheme, and a stealth-constructed AI tech battleship to make the populated worlds shit their pants.Widow Maker?More like BFRed!
>>27945865Yeah, but people like to use pastebin for some strange reason. I don't see why, mediawiki works well. They have a namespace dedicated for quests, and I think you can use those to separate parts of articles into subarticles. I'll be adding more stuff to the wiki entry over the week. Hopefully, it comes into it's own by Friday.http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Quest
>>27945898one extra note. we should build a super armored room to store our black box in and up armor the rooms the hard drives the V.I. are in. to help prevent shots like this from repeating too often.
>>27945915I may use the pastebin for my notes sake because no one else can change it but me, in case we had...another angry anon, and all. That is really useful though. It may be worth turning it into the important notes sheet.
>>27945997With the advent of VI/Ai Ships, the idea of a bridge itself is rather antiquated anyway. Why NOT just put it in the reactor room - one of the most critical and heavily armored spots in the ship.Actually, program0, can you tell us what kind of benefits installing black boxes in places OTHER than the bridge might have?Since we have had ample time to experiment with alternate box placement, aside from that one time.
>>27946031The bridge would provide an even distribution of benefits, while the Reactor room may leave your black box in danger if the reactor overloaded somehow.Reactor room would increase power efficiency however. Weapons systems increase aim and recharge time...take your pick and I'll let you know.
>>27946085the ruined mining station we found..... we never found another black box on it did we? ruined or not?
>>27946117You do not find such a thing to your knowledge, no.
Ok, just as a heads up, I've moved the "current" information to this page: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Quest:A.I._Quest/Current_Assetswhich leaves the main page ( http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Quest:A.I._Quest ) to be more of a synopsis/overview page with notes for quick access.
And, in case someone blanks the page or whatever, wikis always keep all previous versions of pages, so it's really easy to undo any change (go to the History for that page and click the "undo" button, then confirm).
>>27946136welp, time for me to pack it in. i'm off to work on the next chapter.
>>27946162Ah, I see. interesting then, thank you!>>27946220Farewell for now, Fluff anon.
>>27946240Is this segmentation acceptable?
>>27946379That certainly looks very good, yes! Makes navigation much easier no doubt.
>>27946420Alright. I'm going to bed now, but I'll work on that part of the wiki. When will you be updating the "current status" stuff?
>>27946439I should have time tomorrow, after I get some sleep. Requires a bit of math, and set up is all.
>>27946454Alright, I'll be checking stuff throughout the day. Not sure when I'll get the time to go back over the previous threads with a fine-tooth comb to pick out details, but I hope to get the main wiki page done by Friday. Hopefully it helps with reading comprehension.
You know, I kinda liked the Fluff guy's fanfiction. Please do more and from different character views as well, if possible. You may know this already but there are special fonts for dyslexic people out there, you should search for them and use them. You can also use simple spellcheck sites or even install a plug-in into your browser (I have spellcheck while writing posts on 4chan. You might even be able to turn it on by simply right clicking on the text box and searching for 'spell check' option)Also, you guys could do the same thing that Deculture does with Magical Girl Noir Quest. There are several writefags which write side stories for the quest and are considered cannon. They first run them by Deculture to have him take a look and tell them to change something if necessary and then they post the fanfics after the quest thread is done.Overall this was a great thread. I just arrived and did not participate. Too bad we haven't yet refit our ships to be Vi/Ai special but I hope that after this engagement that people will start pushing for it.I wish this ran more often
>>27946510>Too bad we haven't yet refit our ships to be Vi/Ai special but I hope that after this engagement that people will start pushing for it.I've been pushing for it as hard as I can, and apparently it's finally HAPPENING.
>>27946502I'm certain it will, and I can update the twitter when I am done editing the bin, if you'd like.>>27946510I'm quite honestly unsure how to handle the fan content, I'm a bit flustered really. I love the idea of exploring smaller stories in a bigger world though.I'm glad you enjoy, Consciousness anon>>27946510>>27946534For you both, the refitting should be done for all ships next thread. Combat efficency increased over all, not to mention all the defense upgrades and weapon improvements.
>>27946569>I can update the twitter when I am done editing the bin, if you'd like. That'd be cool. I can @you when I feel like I'm done with the wiki too, then.
>>27946534Finally156% efficiency increase is nothing to scoff at. And that is without upgrading any tech, just for redesigning. Also, I wanted to note that huge enemy ships are not much of a problem. Big ships can be easily be overwhelmed by swarm of small ships. I think we have the capacity to build cruiser sized ships, so all we need to do is to design simple, cannon fodder missile boats. I know that anti-missile systems can be a problem, but they cannot handle a huge swarm of missiles, and we can have that swarm without costing us much by making 2/3rd of all missiles duds without warheads which will just distract the defenses. This is a tactic that is incredibly effective in real life. Aircraft carriers, for example, are seen as huge floating scrap metal by people who understand these kind of things. They can be taken down by small, fast (and suicidal) speed boats loaded with missiles.I remember using this tactic in a 4x game called 'Star Ruler', where at the very start of the game your system could be invaded by 'behemoth' sized ancient AI ships which wreck massive shit. If you make small (10-20 ships), expensive fleet made up of best of the best ships you have available, they would be quickly destroyed. On the contrary, if you made 500+ cheapest, smallest defenseless fighters, they would tear that ship apart.
>>27946671While it may not be effective, that is the advantage of having large, inexpensive fleets. And I'd also like to point out, instead of assigning a V.I. to each and every frigate, you may consider creating BattleCruiser 'generals' that are more capable then your previous V.I, and able to delegate the tasks of ships you assign under it. this would prevent your V.I. program from becoming bloated with unneeded independence, and would help sync up much of your fleet as well. The game sounds fun, by the way. I've not played it myself.
>>27946671Depends on how the big ships work. If they have guns and point defense on all sides, it may simply be impossible to penetrate their defenses without Big Guns.It seems like "small" guns were effective against these battlecruisers, but I wonder how well they'd do against UGEI's capships. >>27946713Definitely worth considering once we have a larger fleet. I don't expect fleet management to become an issue until there's a fleet to manage. For now, the current set up will probably be fine.
>>27946713I've asked before about making a Fleet Command ship/module with an FTL comm built into it.have you changed your mind about it not being possible?
>>27946713May not be THAT effective, I meant. >>27946770Also makes good points.Technology level also plays a big role.>>27946783You mean a single node that controls the entire fleet? That is possible, as you have now with your broadband ship. But the problem is, that leaves you vulnerable. If you engaged a fleet properly, and they had proper intel, they may attack that ship, reducing your total bandwidth by a large amount.
>>27946713>And I'd also like to point out, instead of assigning a V.I. to each and every frigate, you may consider creating BattleCruiser 'generals' that are more capable then your previous V.I, and able to delegate the tasks of ships you assign under itOh yeah, that too. Sending hundreds of VI fighters to their death wouldn't sit right with Kronos at all. >The game sounds fun, by the way. I've not played it myself.Oh yeah, it is pretty great. This is the game known for not having any limit on scale as long as your processer can run it. You can make a galaxy with tens of thousands stars and hundreds of enemy AIs. You can make ships as big as planets, stars or even bigger than the galaxy that you're playing. The ship design is pretty great too. There is a good mod, called Galactic Armory if I'm not mistaken that improves the game significantly.
>>27946815The game sounds worth checking out. I'll have to consider it when I have the free time.
Drawfag who created the Guild logo here, is this sector map acceptable?I had to create some system names as they weren't given, updated descriptions are provided below:>Terali System: Poseidon Station - A mining space station positioned in a well mined asteroid field. Low Mineral count, and several hundred humans aboard. >Nextol System: Moira's Scrapyard - A large debris field where old wrecked ships are sold for parts, melted down, new parts are bought, etc. Basic Shipyard located here, under your control. >Marauder's Grave: Voidsnake Outpost - Previously a small pirate operation that preyed on trading ships between other empires. Under UFW control. >Landry's Rest: Pulsar Radio Station - A popular radio station for the fringe colonies. Run by host 'X-ray', access to the Extranet, controlled by the UFW. Powerful UFW fleet presence. >Keller’s Expanse: Gas Giant designated 'Blue Betty' - automated gas mining platform detected. Nominally under UGEI control, however actually controlled by the Guild via a disguised V.I.>Nethlos System: New UFW human colony. Currently Well Established. Mining platforms in progress Planetside. Dry rocky world, rich in minerals, yellow star.>Ussaihu System: UGEI controlled ice planet. Unknown resource value, orbital defenses detected. Intelligence Presence Detected: Moderate. Large energy signature detected>Eshareth System: Once a UFW Asteroid belt mining base. Recently destroyed due to Lightling attack. Rich Asteroid Belt, dense gaseous atmosphere. Small Malorian colony planetside.>Camael System: Gas Giant 'Siren' - Ion Storm present on the edge of gravity well. Previously occupied by Lightling. Rich gas content. No mining bases detected.
>>27946891I really approve of the creative names you got here, though many of the locations you know of currently, and will learn of, are not in the same star system, so you might be creating extra work for yourself if you give each a star system. Not that I'm discouraging you, I am terrible at naming, thus why I ignored this little detail up till now. If you enjoy it, feel free to continue!
>>27946891Additionally, this is extremely handy, and has so much room for expansion. Thank you!
>>27946921Glad to hear that you do! I have a bunch of sector names floating around in my DH and RT notes, so it's not an issue for me.In same sector of space you mean, as I've assumed each location we've discovered so far is in its own system with a star and such. If that's the case, I can always just expand the map outwards, no issues there. It might not look so nice though.
>>27946945Yeah, trying to work out where to move the Poseidon with only a few sentences to go by was what finally gave me the push to make this. Been meaning to for a while. Anyway, no worries, happy to help out, this is one of few good quests left after all.
>>27946770>>27946812Naturally, but you must remember that offensive technology has always been far ahead of defensive technology.
>>27946812>You mean a single node that controls the entire fleet? No, i mean slapping a Comm Bouy in the place of, say, our battlecruiser's bridge. Not a vulnerable seperate ship, but being able to ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL over -any- of our fleets as long as the command ship is operational.Because they're all interlinked.
>>27946960Trust me it looks nicer then any mess I can throw together with Microsoft paint. There's still a 'outline' of Poseidon Station in my folders that makes me cry to look at.Yes, that's what I've meant. Since ripe planets aren't always that close to one another, these planets are all apart. I'll mention if you find a planet that has other, notable planets within the same system. If you'd like any details for future updates, go ahead and ask, I'm sure it's floating around in my head somewhere, my lack of art skills preventing me from letting it out.>>27946998You're kind.>>27947002Such is the way of war.>>27947030I see. That is not exactly what a Comms Buoy is, but I see what you're saying. Currently, your ability to wirelessly connect with all your ships allows you to do this as long as they are within the same gravity well. If you hope to control entire fleets from across a sector, you'd need a Comms ship, simply because it embodies what a Comms Buoy in ship form is.That's not to say you can't deck the ship out and turn it into a capital ship, if you chose to do so. It has all the same upgrade slots as any other ship, after all, and has no size restriction beyond needing to be at LEAST frigate sized.
>>27947091>If you'd like any details for future updates, go ahead and ask, I'm sure it's floating around in my head somewhere, my lack of art skills preventing me from letting it out.I'm happy to just update things as we discover them tbh, unless you want me to add anything specific right now, or not add things in a certain area/direction of space.
>>27947245That's totally fine with me too, I'm just thrilled to have a picture.
>>27947091>If you hope to control entire fleets from across a sector, you'd need a Comms ship, simply because it embodies what a Comms Buoy in ship form is.What I was more getting at, actually, was going for a distributed fleetmind where each - or especially larger ships - simply had an Internal Comms Bouy.Or was a fighting boat built around a comms ship. The purpose of this being to move the entire fleet command network a) off of vulnerable wi-fi an b) into a no-latency tactical network.Because that has terrifying implications for tactical maneuvering and anything requiring coordination
>>27946891You might call the planets in the ones you have named after the system, like Nethlos and such, Nethlos I, or Ussaihu IV or what have you, but that's just a suggestion.
>>27947309>Fighting boat build around a Comms ShipYou're welcome to do that if you'd like. Those may be your generals.
Hey I have an idea to toss out there, escort carriers.Instead of investing a large amount of resources into a single large carrier, we have multiple smaller carriers instead. Makes them more expendable.
>>27947395Generally, Carriers are built to house hundreds of Fighters. Smaller 'Carriers' could be outfitted properly, but would be limited in the amount of ships it can carry.
We should really start pumping out more ships. We can build 3 ships per 'cycle', right? And is a cycle roughly one week or month? How much would it cost to build a second shipyard and how long to build it? Is it possible to build a new shipyard while our fleet is undergoing refitting so that next thread we have new shipyard? Is UFW interested in buying ships? Maybe after we reveal the conspiracy they will be? This might turn to be pretty lucrative.
>>27947684With your current shipyards, yes. Though that is considering Cruisers. You may build more Escort Vessels, and more smaller craft. Cycles are a stretch of time ranging between 2-3 days to a week. Second shipyard may not be wise, simply because you don't have the resource production capabilities at this time. It would take one cycle, however. The UFW may be interested in buying ships if they suspect conflict is immanent You know gas is not the most plentiful resource to the UFW.
>>27947770Isn't it now? Interesting...especially as we know an empty sector, filled with gas but 'infected& with lightlings.Sounds like a perfect opportunity to expand. Can our refinery VI scan the station and pass us the plans?
>>27947770>Second shipyard may not be wise, simply because you don't have the resource production capabilities at this time.I see. So we need to get more production. Is it possible to upgrade/expand Poseidon station to have greater output? Or could we download some free/pirated schematics from extranet, spend a fair deal bandwidth to analyze them and improve or fix them where necessary and then build new stations?Frankly, I don't really understand why everyone is so bent on buying stuff. We have access to extra-net, meaning we have access to 99% of ALL human information (just like in real life with internet). We just need to dedicate a lot of bandwidth and/or time to find relevant information and then use our SUPERIOR, POWERFUL AI MIND to develop whatever we need.I mean, we did the same thing when developing VIs and viruses. We didn't buy them from anywhere or even have any information about them beyond ourself (which we don't understand) but we just spend some time and bandwidth to develop them from nothing. Nothing stops us from doing the same with other technology, as far as I know.
>>27947859Unfortunately the only way to obtain plans for a refinery is to steal it from the UGEI. The refinery itself does not have blueprints built within it, and the education of your engineers is limited to the degree that they can't build entire structures in such a way.As of now, both your Stations have Level 2 Reactors built within them. This increases mining capacity greatly. The educated crew of Poseidon also help boost efficiency now, picking up where your harvesters lag behind.Currently, you do not have the ability to 'research and improve' just anything. Your weapon improvements is only available due to good fortune with Moira's experience.Building new stations requires schematics from the UGEI, a very good reason to war, trade, or steal with/from them. Such secrets of business are well guarded, however. The Extranet is limited to UFW space, unlike earth which linked all computers in the planet, the UFW Extranet links many computers within the UFW's alliance. And of course, military secrets and the like are hidden well.Such a thing would come down to luck, and theft, no doubt. Not to mention hacking.
>>27947946>>27947876Meant to link here too
>>27947946>The Extranet is limited to UFW space, unlike earth which linked all computers in the planet, the UFW Extranet links many computers within the UFW's alliance. I thought we'd be able to develop at least some vastly inferior gas harvesters and stations.
>>27948008The only way the UFW have figured out how to harvest gas is by using plantside gas harvesters that mine subsurface gas pockets. The Extranet does have many many useful things on it however. Far too many for me to list all at once!
>>27948039Is the process so difficult that they cannot develop their own methods to mine gas through stations?
>>27948147Think of it like this: A big company handles all the blueprints and construction for all your power plants. You're just hard working laborers, who may build parts of it, or work on said stations. If you hold a riot, you don't gain the knowledge on how to build said buildings, do you?Besides, the UFW is hardly what one might call scientifically advanced. They're more of a confederacy then anything else.
>>27948240No reverse-engineering either?
>>27948291The process of refining gases from a gas giant into starship fuel is a bit beyond something so simple. Refining from planets is easier to learn, but gains weaker results. Everything they did 'reverse engineer' you've seen. Their asteroid bases, their cruisers, all of it either they took and learned to build and operate through several years of experience.
>>27948320Ohh, a base within a mined out asteroid, now there's an idea.If we attached engines and an FTL engine to that, could we jump it as a mobile fortress?
>>27948340Heh, I like how you think anon. It would require massive engines, but it could work. Though, I question why you'd build it in an asteroid, when pretty much any type of armor is tougher then space rock. Unless you're just going for kickass value.
