While there, a young boy approaches the townsfolk with a shocking proposition...
"I am selling this Gundam!"You couldn't believe it. The odds of something like this happening were -astronomical-. Before long, the town square is in a frenzy, with people bidding like crazy. You could join in on the bidding war, and get the Gundam X yourself, but yo'd likely be subsisting on cheap ramen and ration bars for a while if you did so.On the other hand, you could sit back and see how this will all play out; there's something about this kid than the fact he's stupid, or rather, smart enough to sell a Gundam...>Might as well get that Gundam for yourself>Sit back and watch>Write in
>>27230549>>Might as well get that Gundam for yourselfWe have the ability to pilot it- we did search for a g-controller after all. And even if not- we can then sell our Daughtress. Regardless- I want to offer this kid a job.
>>27230549>Might as well get that Gundam for yourselfIt won't hurt to try...
>>27230549>Sit back and watchI want to see what this kid has planned.
Looks like you'll have to suck it up and deal with the fact you'll have to eat light for the next few months; you've got a Gundam to buy!Bids are low; in the sixty million range, but that kid has a way with words; he already managed to goad the crowd into bidding ihigher. It didn't look like there were going to be any higher bids, so it was now or never..."How about 100 million?"You blink and look at the man that had just bid one hundred million dollars, cursing under your breath. You had just as much as that guy, and no one else was bidding..."Aha, that's a hell of an offer, old man! Anyone else? Going once... going twice...!"You raise your hand. God, you hoped this would work."I"ll match that bid, and throw in a Daughtress as interest. How about that?"The old bastard with the knit cap looks like he's about ready to cry, and the kid's got the biggest shit-eating grin you've seen on someone since... well, yourself, really."Sold to the young man over there! Come on up, sir!"You grin, and walk onto the stage as the crowd, sans the old guy, cheers you on.You look at the Gundam, then to the kid who's... still smiling for some reason. Huh. Shrugging, you hold out your hand, and he grips it, shaking your hand."That's that, eh? Thanks for the Gundam, kid."You break the handshake and begin walking towards your prize, eager to take this bad boy for a spin."HOLD it!"You smile. -There- it is..."That Gundam needs a little something extra to move, you know."So that was his game... You raise an eyebrow as the kid pulls a G-Controller from his jacket."Now how much will you pay for this?"Oh, if only he knew what you had in your jacket, he wouldn't be smiling..."Oh, for one of those things?" You give him a grin as you pull out your own G Controller. "No thanks, I got my own."Now, while you enjoyed pranking a prankster or two, you couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt as the kid wilts under the crowd's laughter.(cont'd.)

>>27231162Whisper to the Kid's ear."be glad it's just laughter kid since that was mine to begin with."
>>27231162>Try to brighten the kid's mood. You were an asshole, but you don't like to see a kid cry."Cheer up kid! I''ll throw in the snowboard I was working on for difficult terrain for free."
>>27231162>Try to brighten the kid's mood. You were an asshole, but you don't like to see a kid cry.He was running quite the ploy. Smart in a way. To bad we were the ones who wanted it this day
>>27231234How about no? Little shit stole our Gundam, THEN tried to make us pay extra for the controller afterwards.
>>27231234No way. We're keeping the head and sledge. We're a junk trader, and we never said what Shape the Daughtress was in either.Never bet against a junk man, you'll always lose lady buck.
>>27231306>the head being the Command head. He can keep the old one.And the Axe. Is. Ours.
>>27231306To be fair, the Daughtress is in pretty good condition after the repairs you made on it, not to mention that you were killing time while your mechanic friend Crazy Sven slapped a Daughtress Command head onto your machine.>Also, writing.
>You know how I knew I needed the controller? My Gundam went missing just before I could get my hands on it.
>>27231374Did he?Quick! Call crazy Sven! Tell him to swap it back out to the old one! This little punk doesnt get a Mint command head.
"Hey hey, that's enough you bums! Show's over, alright?"You make a shooing motion at the crowd, who disperses fairly quickly. There's a few stragglers, but you pay no attention to them. You look at the kid, who refuses to meet your gaze."Hey."No response."That was a pretty gutsy move you pulled back there, you know. Real shrewd thinking; couldn't have done better myself."You pause, then break out into a grin."Okay, maybe I could, but I digress. You did real good out there, you know. If I didn't have this," you say, holding up your G-Controller. "I'd have been in a real bind. What's your name?"Finally, the kid looks at you, though he's not exactly smiling. It's a start, at least."Garrod. Garrod Ran."You smile."It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Garrod. What do you say we take a look at your new Mobile Suit? Granted, it's a bit of a trade-down in comparison to the GX, but it's a good, solid machine. I should know; I built it myself."He raises an eyebrow at your declaration, then smiles."Seriously? You -built- a Daughtress? This I gotta see."You smile, and get into the Gundam. You pull out the G Controller, and lock it into place, watching as it lights up, and the Mobile Suit rumbles to life. You look down at Garrod, who seems somewhat surprised. He probably never imagined he'd ever be staring up at what was once his Gundam."Want a lift, kid?" you say through the Gundam's radio as you bend down and extend the GX's manipulator. He gets on with no complaints, and you make your way back to a -VERY- surprised Sven."Hey, Sven!" you say through the radio. "Take a look at what I bought!"Sven stares at the Gundam slack-jawed, much to yours and Garrod's amusement, before he regains his composure, and begins laughing."Gah ha hah! You are man of many surprises Dahveed. You come to my shop with dinky Daughtress, and return with mighty Goondam! Such a crazy man you are."(cont'd.)
You chuckle a bit at that. You'd have to be to have spent as much as you did on this thing.Sven looks from the Gundam, to Garrod, who is sitting in its manipulator, idly swinging his legs to and fro."Oh? Who is this leetle string bean boy? you buy him too, Dahveed?""No, this kid here is Garrod. I sold the Daughtress to him. I figured that you'd be done by now, so I thought I'd kill two bird with one stone and finalize things with the both of you.Sven blinks a few times, then starts laughing again."Gah ha ha ha HAH! Ever the businessman, eh Dahveed? Come around back, the mobile suit's modifications are done."You set the manipulator that Garrod is riding onto the ground, and watch as he strolls around to the back. You wait until neither Sven or Garrod are in your path, and you walk the Gundam into the back lot as well. Exiting the GX, you make your way to solid ground and approach the two of them.Garrod looks from you to the modified Daughtress, with its new head and axe in hand, while the Sledge is being held with its other one. You were gonna miss that thing, but business is business."So... the whole thing is mine?" he asks, wide-eyed.You grin; time to give him a taste of his own medicine."The WHOLE thing? Oh no NO, of course not. The axe and Sledge are extra. You'll have to pay for those if you want them."Garrod sputters a bit, but quickly regains his composure."Wha-buh... H-how much will I have to pay?"Your grin widens. Oh, you couldn't WAIT to see his face..."Well, considering the time and effort spent, along with the cost of materials, and the general price range of custom weaponry... I'd say the estimate comes to... seventy-five million."Garrod looks like he's ready to cry, while Sven is busy laughing his ass off."But that's almost all the money I just MADE! That's outrageous!""So's trying to swindle a swindler, kid." you say, frowning. "Like I said, what you did back there was gutsy, but it was also stupid as hell."(cont'd.)
He averts his gaze, like a child who's-- well, technically, he IS a child who's being scolded."Look," you say, placing a hand on his shoulder. If he didn't like you doing that, you couldn't tell. The kid's face is unreadable. "You may be a stupid, swindling kid, but as crazy as it sounds, I like that about you.""W-what?"Garrod looks at you, confusion evident on his face."I'm going to offer you a choice. You can either pay me the seventy-five mil, you walk away and you never see me or the GX again, OR..." you say, holding a finger up. "You can have the whole thing, axe and board, if and ONLY IF you come work for me at my parts store."Garrod is silent, clearly thinking over your offer."Like any frugal businessman, my main source of income comes from salvaging military bases and battlefield for anything a Vulture might find of use. Of course, there are some situations where I neither have the equipment or manpower needed for some of the more... lucrative finds. That's where you come in. So, Garrod... how about it?">Roll me 1d20+3. DC is 15.
Wait, it's been a long time since I saw Gundam X.Once a GX-0099 unit is registered with the lunar base that has the Microwave Beam transmitter, it doesn't need Tifa, right? And this unit was registered with the system in its last battle when Garrod used the Satellite Canon?

>>27232297>The DX is another story, however.Ah! I must have been thinking of the DX, then.
Rolled 9 + 3>>27232277No. You're thinking of the Double X. The X still needs a Newtype pilot. Luckily, that seems to be what we are. Still, I'd rather not use the Satellite Cannon at all. Most of the time that thing is just dead weight. It would be better if we went straight to the Divider.
>>27232293Yeah, I'm getting kinda pissed at this, we're getting awfully chummy with someone who stole our Gundam, and then tried to swindle us by not offering the fucking controller.
>>27232379We left the Gundam there after finding it, someone else grabbed it. We didn't own it- it wasn't in our shop or in our hands. They got to it first- fair and square.
>>27232379We like his moxy. Kid's got guts, we have to respect that. And having him as a subordinate would be a great way to get revenge for the aggravation he gave us without being too petty.
>>27232379Oh believe me, as chummy as we're being, we're gonna make Garrod work his ass off. We've been doing 100% of the grunt work at our shop, and have been doing things solo since, well... EVER. He's gonna get a whole list of new responsibilities now that he's our lackey.>Also, writing...
>>27232411Which was kind of stupid of us. Couldn't we get our hands on an MS transport truck? Just because we can't start it up without a G-Controller doesn't mean we can't move the thing. >>27232411Still, that kinda shit with the 'You need to buy the remote, too!' thing is douchebaggery of the highest sort.>>27232437That's fine, I thought everything was going to be sunshine and roses buddy-buddy shit.

More profit can happen.Which brings me to this point- we should make sure only to destroy cockpits when fighting if possible- keeps the most salvage intact.
>>27232536Because we're not psychopaths? Besides, it's not like we need the axe or board anymore, cool as they are. We've got beam swords now, and the Gundam can fly. Totally a fair trade.

You grasp his hand and give it a firm shake, sealing the deal. After you transfer the money to Garrod, you look at the sky, which is a deep orange thanks to the setting sun."We should probably find a place to park the suits..." you say, gesturing to the Gundam and Daughtress. "After all, I don't think Sven is going to let our Mobile Suits take up any more space unless we're selling them.""Can do, Boss. There's a lot not too far from here; I parked the GX there earlier." he says, smiling."Good job, kid." you say, smiling. "First job I want you to do as my new sla-- Er, -employee-, is to pay for the parking. For BOTH suits."Garrod looks at you incredulously, only to sigh and slump his shoulders in defeat as he gets into the Daughtress and heads to the parking lot, with you following close behind in the GX.After taking a picture with the lot owner, the two of you head back into town for dinner, and (of course) it's Garrod's treat."So..." you say, sipping your milkshake, watching as Garrod hungrily scarfs down his cheeseburger. Tell me about yourself, Garrod. An employer needs to familiarize himself with their employee's background, after all."He swallows his bite of burger, and looks at you for a bit before he speaks."Well, there's not much to say. I worked with Vultures for a little bit, but things... didn't pan out, so here I am."You get the feeling there's more to the story than what he's letting on, if his expression is anything to go by, but if you ask the wrong questions, he'll probably take it the wrong way.>"What kind of jobs did you do?">"What was it like working with Vultures?">"Do you miss them?" Maybe he can do more than just talk the talk..."Well, anything, really. finding lost property, missing persons, courier work, salvage... as long as the pay's good, I'm all over it, you know?"You nod in understanding. Before you started your shop, you were in a similar situation yourself."Any memorable jobs?"Garrod blinks, then goes quiet. A job gone bad, perhaps?"Well, there was this one job... it involved this girl..."So, you sit back, listening as Garrod tells you about this girl, Tiffa Adill. You recognize the name, considering Shagia and Olba had tried to ask you to help them recover her. You hid your expression well, apparently, as Garrod continued talking. He tells you about how he met her, and found the Gundam. Your suspicions about him being the one who got to the Gundam before you were correct were confirmed. You were slightly upset that this punk got to the GX before you did, but in the end, it's in your possession so it didn't really matter at this point. He continues, telling you of how Tiffa had managed to activate the Gundam's Satellite Cannon, and how she fell unconscious after firing it. (So HE was behind that blast... the kid sure knew how to get into trouble, that was for sure.) He continues on about how he met, and was unofficially inducted into the crew of the Freeden, and how he tried, and failed, to help contribute, and how the crew, specifically "this one brunette with a stick up her ass" kept getting on his case. He tells you about how his latest attempt at trying to help the crew nearly cost the life of the Freeden's captain, and how he came to the decision to leave the crew and sell the Gundam. He says he's glad he left, but his expression clearly says otherwise.Your response?>"Do you miss them?">"Sounds like you made the right choice.">"Don't you miss her? "If that's the case, then I'm going with you."Garrod looks at you, surprised. "What? But why, Boss? This is my mess, so I should be the one to fix things.""Maybe so," you say. "But you're still my employee, and as your employer, I'm responsible for your safety. Besides, I want to see what the Freeden and its crew is like for myself. If they're as bad as you say, then you'll need someone in your corner, right?"Defeated by your sound logic, Garrod sighs."I guess so... Thanks, Boss." he says, smiling.Garrod tells you that last he checked, the Freeden was hidden out in a forest not too far from here. You figured that since their captain is still recovering, they're not likely to go anywhere any time soon. You manage to convince Garrod to wait until tomorrow to find them. He attempts to argue, but his fatigue makes itself known with a rather obnoxious yawn.As the two of you begin your search for a hotel to stay at for the night, you feel a familiar itch at the back of your head, but ignore the sensation.---"It seems Lady Luck is smiling upon us this day, Brother." says Olba, smiling."That she is, dear brother." replies Shagia, wearing a similar smile."Shall we make our way to the forest then, Brother?"Shagia shakes his head, a chuckle escaping his lips."No, my dear brother. We shall wait until tomorrow, and when our two guide dogs take us to our destination, we shall dispose of them in one fell swoop."Olba claps his hands together, smiling in approval."Brilliant, dear Brother!" he says, chuckling. "Your plans are truly magnificent, as always.""Indeed they are, Brother. Come, let us find shelter for the evening, for tomorrow, we act..."(cont'd.)
>The next morning...While Garrod slept like a log, you weren't so lucky. The combination of his snoring, along with that incessant itching proved to be a potent combination for insomnia. The two of you make your way to the lot where your Mobile Suits are parked, and Garrod spies a Mobile Suit that causes him to freeze in his tracks."That black Mobile Suit... Olba!"Your eyes widen at the name, and you look at him, clearly worried."Where did you hear that name?" you say, a severe frown on your face.Hesitantly, Garrod tells you of his encounter with the younger Frost brother, and how he almost got Tiffa killed. Your frown only deepens. This confirms your suspicions about the Frost brothers. Whoever they were, they were nothing but bad news. You tell Garrod as much as well."Let's go, kid. No point in lingering here, otherwise we might run into Tweedledee and Tweedledum."Garrod nods, and before long, the two of you are off, traveling in the direction of the forest that Garrod indicated, with you piloting the GX and Garrod in the Daughtress. You locate the Freeden with little trouble, and after introducing yourself, the both you are allowed onto the ship.True to his word, Garrod apologized for his actions, and though most of the crew is understanding, the one who Garrod referred to as "the brunette with a stick up her ass" is still rather apprehensive. While Garrod goes off to find Tiffa, you approach the woman, who you've learned is the Second in Command."So... what's your beef with Garrod? Don't tell me you're still upset about the trouble he's caused; he's already apologized for that, as well as for running away. The others forgive him, why don't you?""I realize that!" she snaps, scowling at you for a moment before taking a deep breath. "It's just... I just can't figure out what Jamil-- I mean what the Captain sees in that boy. He's caused more harm than good, and despite his inexperience in combat, he still allowed him to pilot the GX."(cont'd.)
You shrug."Maybe it's a Newtype thing?" you say. "I don't know him all that well myself, but there's something that's telling me that this kid, despite his faults, is really something special. Me, I'm not exactly good with others, and yet here I am, having followed him out here to make sure he's safe. I don't know how he does it, but it's like he brings out the best in people."She sighs, and offers you a tired smile."I suppose I'll have to take your word for it."With that taken care of, you decide to look for Garrod. OP, we're gonna be able to kill them if we have the ability to right? Well, ability with our fire support. Because fuck. I hate re-occurring villains just coming back, always escaping their ass kicking only to annoy us later. Fuckers.

You're not gona to go and mess with the kid's love life; besides, he's come this far already, so he needs to see this through!Hesitantly, Garrod knocks on the door. Once. Twice. A third time."Tiffa?" he says, squirming nervously. "Are you there?"There's a moment of silence before the both of you hear a voice."Garrod? Is that you?" you hear her ask. She sounds like a delicate thing; hardly what you pictured a powerful Newtype to sound like, but you supposed there were weirder things out there..."Y-yeah..." he says. "I don't know if you still want to see me or not, but I wanted to apologize... I did some stupid stuff, and the Captain got hurt because of me. If you're still angry with me, I understand, and... I'm sorry. Even if you don't ever want to see me again, I just wanted to apologize for all the stupid things I did."There's a long silence before the door finally opens."I should be the one apologizing, Garrod... I've been doing selfish things, without thinking about how you or the others might react... I was disgusted with myself, because everyone is pushing themselves so hard for my sake, and I've been nothing but selfish..."She chokes back a sob, and presses herself against Garrod's chest."I wanted to make you happy, but I never thought to ask you; I'm sorry. I'm sorry for making everyone work so hard for my sake... and I'm sorry for causing you so much trouble and making you leave..."Garrod wraps his arms around Tiffa, resting his head against hers."Nothing you could ever do would make me unhappy, Tiffa. You're a good person, no matter what you, or others might think."Tiffa smiles, and you could swear Garrod's head would have passed for a tomato with how red he was in the face."Tiffa, I--"And before he can say anything, the crew is called down into the hangar again, where there are two new Gundams docked, and two men you've never seen before with the crew, and a MS-sized suitcase.>Introduce yourself>Hang back and watch.>Write in

You decide to just sit back and watch as the events before you unfold. With their current situation, the Freeden's crew needed protection while their captain recuperated, so they enlisted the help of the Gundam Leopard's pilot, Roybea Loy, and the Airmaster's Pilot, Witz Sou wanted to leave something important in the Freeden's care. And before you could say "That's a lot of shekels, goyim." that something important was revealed to the entire crew and yourself. There was so much gold in there, you were having a hard time controlling yourself. Considering how violent this guy was acting in regards to all that gold, it really WAS important to him.Despite his borderline homicidal remarks, the Second in Command managed to convince Witz to guard the ship until the Captain recovered. You look to Garrod, who seems deep in thought."Hey Boss..." he says, looking up at you, Tiffa grasping his hand. Tiffa looks at you, unsure of what to think about you, but if she disapproved of you, she certainly didn't make it apparent, with her nigh-unreadable poker face."Yeah, Garrod?""I still need to apologize to Jamil... and I'd rather wait until he wakes up. But I'd understand if you want to leave, too..."What do you want to do? You'd rather not lose out on a potential business venture by leaving, but if they want to do business with you, chances are they'll know where to look...>Help guard the Freeden. Also, I know most of you might bitch, but I think we should let Garrod pilot the Gundam. It'll keep his ass alive, keep the plot moving well, and we'll get a free upgrade to X-Divider out of it when Garrod gets his ass kicked by the Bertigo.Besides, I like the Daughtress, we put alot of work into it. And if we really want a Gundam X, we can ask them to keep one of the GX Bits and modify the fuck out of it later. (I'm still hoping we get ahold of a Belphegor though.)
>>27236207Well, we are a moderate pilot - if the kid proves himself capable, might as well let him pilot the Gundam and act as our protection. We keep the Daughtress, and upgrade her until she becomes something ridiculous.
You might as well help guard the Freeden. No point in pursuing a business venture if the man in charge is doing his impression of "Sleeping Beauty", so you familiarize yourself with your two temporary coworkers."So you're the hotshot junk dealer that decided to take Garrod under your wing, eh?" asks Roybea, brushing some of his hair out of his face. You nod, and hold out your hand."The name's David West. It's a pleasure to meet and work with you two. You know, if either of you two are out in my neck of the woods, I can give you a good price for repairs or modifications.""We'll keep that in mind..." says Witz tentatively. It seems the idea of parting with his hard earned gold is not an idea he's likely to entertain. "But for right now, let's focus on our current task. Both you and Garrod, as well as Roybea and me are the only line of defense for the Freeden and whatever decides to come sniffing around in this neck of the woods."You nod. The guy had a point; you had a job to do, so you had to have your priorities in line. You get into the GX, while Garrod, Roybea, and Witz get into the Daughtress, Leopard, and Airmaster, respectively. Things are quiet for a while... at least until the Gundam X's sensors pick up two incoming mobile suits.Your stomach drops into your feet as a voice you sincerely didn't want to hear today is heard through the public radio channels."Hello and good afternoon, gentlemen." says Shagia Frost over the radio. You can FEEL his smugness, even without a video feed into the man's cockpit. "I am Shagia Frost, and this is my brother, Olba."(cont'd.)
Rolled 16 + 2Shagia's mobile suit, a red and black Gundam-type MS with an imposing figure gestures to a mobile armor, which vaguely resembles the MS you and Garrod saw earlier."We're here today because you all have embarrassed us in some form." he says, a hint of venom creeping into his tone."And we detest being upstaged." chimes in Olba, transforming his machine into its Mobile Suit mode. That buzzing in the back of your skull has turned into a dull roar, and you pull out the GX's large beam sword, with your Shield Buster Rifle unfolded and held in your left manipulator.>Roll 1d20 to attack. Before it can counterattack, Garrod swings the Daughtress' heat hawk at the mobile suit, disabling the other one.Witz attempts to disengage Shagia's mobile suit to assist, but the elder Frost brother won't have any of that, corralling the Airmaster with its claw-mounted beam guns."Thanks, Boss! You really saved our hides back there!""Thank me later, stay on your toes!" you bark through the radio.---"Brother, we seem to be in a bit of a bind..." muses Olba, moving to his brother's position.Shagia continues his assault on the Airmaster, keeping Witz in his pace as he converses with his brother."So it seems... You lower your beam rifle, and sheathe your beam saber."Hold it, let's just talk for a moment, alright?""Wh-- Talk with them?! They tried to attack us!" snapped Witz, finally managing to break free of Shagia's constant barrage of beam gun fire. Transforming the Airmaster into MS mod,e he lands with a heavy thud as Roybea rolls up in the Leopard."Are you sure about this, Hotshot?" he asks, clearly worried."I'm sure the Boss has something planned, right?" Garrod says, laughing nervously."It's fine, I got this." you say. "Besides, in the moments we've been chatting, neither of them have fired at us, have they? That means they're willing to listen."Your friend is right." chimes in Shagia. "My brother and I came in underprepared and suffered for it. We aren't foolish enough to refuse an attempt at diplomacy at this point.""Alright then..." you say, stepping forward. "Now that we're all on the same page, there are quite a few things that need to be discussed. However, that can wait until we get you and your mobile suits aboard the Freeden for repairs. You'll be taken in as prisoners aboard the Freeden, and subject to questioning, understood?""Yes, understood..." says Shagia."Is that alright with all parties?"There's a general chorus of agreement from Garrod and most of the crew, while Wits, Roybea, and the Second in Command still seem apprehensive, but accepting of the terms. The brother's Gundams, the Ashtaron and Virsago, belonging to Olba and Shagia, respectively are brought aboard, and the brothers immediately placed in handcuffs with no fuss. No weapons were found on either of them, fortunately, and you, Garrod, the Second in Command Sala Tyrell, along with the ship's doctor, Techcs Farzenburg are all sat down in what you assume is the ship's interrogation chambers.>What do you want to ask the brothers?

Rolled 2Just wondering are we a Newtype?
>>27237041I think so. We hear some buzzing noise or voices in our head from time to time or whenever we're near the two brothers.
You look at the two brothers, sitting there; their expressions unreadable. Might as well start asking some questions."Coffee?" you prompt.Unfortunately, the both of them deny the offer, though you have Garrod fetch some coffee anyway; black for you and Techcs, and a coffee with creamer for Sala. As soon as Garrod is out of the room, your expression shifts, and the entire atmosphere changes."Alright. I want some straight answers out of you two. No cryptic messages, no riddles, None of that bullshit, got it?"The two brothers look at one another, and nod hesitantly."Let's start with the basics. Who do you work for, what is your objective, and what do you want with TIffa Adill? As far as I know, she hasn't done anything to either of you."Shagia is the one to speak up, his voice calm, and his tone even as he speaks."We work for no one but ourselves." he states plainly. "And as for our objective..."This time, Olba pipes up. You always disliked it when twins would speak a sentence together. Shit's creepy, yo."Our objective is the elimination of every known Newtype, documented or otherwise. It's nothing personal against the girl or you, Mr. West, but it is simply the misfortune of your births."Misfortune your -ass-."What could have possibly warranted this? Elimination of all known Newtypes?" asks Sala, taking the reins from here."My brother and I were potential Newtype candidates selected by the UNE. While we possess the gift of telepathic communication between ourselves, we were incompatible with the UNE's Newtype-use FLASH System, and discarded, labeled "Category-F" Newtypes. -Fakes-."His voice wavers, and his expression darkens as he continues."We did not measure up to their standards, and were tossed aside like -trash-, so we vowed revenge upon every known Newtype. Never again will we ever have to be compared to so called 'true' Newtypes. No longer will either of us bear the shameful title of 'Category-F'... THAT is our objective."(cont'd)

You two have incredible gifts. It's the UNE's fault for not recognizing that. Just because the military was being narrow minded doesn't give you an excuse for mass murder. I mean, have you ever tried talking to someone about these issues? That's precisely why therapy exists.""As if anyone could truly understand our plight." grouses Olba, his expression as sour as his brothers'."That right there is the kind of close-mindedness that makes you just as bad as the people that rejected you. You decide to remain on the ship a while longer, and before you know it, you and the others receive news that the Captain, Jamil Neate, has woken up and requested to see you.You find the medical bay, and step inside, where a well-built, bandaged man wearing a bitchin' pair of aviators is currently bedridden, though he is awake and upright."You wanted to see me?" you ask, sitting in a chair near the bedside."Yes. I've heard a great deal about you, Mister West." he says, adjusting his glasses, "I've also heard that you've managed to bring Garrod Ran under your employment and pacify the wrath of the Frost brothers?""Yes I have. He needed structure, a sort of a foundation... and I guess I was just the one to give that to him. As for Shagia and Olba... I'd like to say I'm talented, but it felt more like pure luck that things turned out how they did."Jamil smiles at your statement, and nods."Indeed. He has a great deal of potential, and he has grown much in the short time you've had him under your wing.""You really think so?" you ask, unsure if you've really made that much of an impact with him."I believe so. But there's also the matter of Tiffa...""Yeah... If there's one thing he's attached to in this ship, it's her, and I don't think I have the heart to separate the two of them. In return, you will function as a member of this crew and assist in whatever tasks you are given. Will you accept?"(cont'd.)
>>27237917That could easily happen. Or they could attempt to become horrible junk traders we pick up later on and add them to our crew. With that gift of telepathy, they could make excellent coordinators or spies or something. And they are pretty good pilots - maybe they form their own band.

The offer is tempting, but fifteen percent seemed rather... cheap."How about twenty five percent?" you ask. "I don't come cheap, Captain.""We need the money to be able to afford supplies, Mr. West. Twenty-Five is too much. Fifteen percent." states Jamil. You sigh. This guy was a hard sell, that was for sure."Tell you what; meet me in the middle at Twenty percent, and I'll contribute towards supplies and repairs. Does that sound fair?"There's a short silence as Jamil thinks over your proposition, and sighs as he reaches a decision."That's fair. Welcome aboard, Mister West." he says, holding out his hand."Please, call me Dave. David's fine, too." you say, grasping it and giving it a firm shake.Looks like you, and by extension, Garrod, are working for Jamil!>Alright, this looks to be a good place to pause things at. See you then, OP. Hopefully the thread will still be here when you return!
>>27238099Sure thing. See you next time.
Don't forget to archive this thing, just in case.
Is it just me or does this series suffer from "everything but a MS is useless" syndrome more than most series?Yes, the original gundam series was much better than most in that regard. Hell, it actually had numbers beat quality sometimes, and payed attention to the results of the destruction of the MS pilot core of a faction.
>>27239167Land battleships are kinda pathetically armed yeah. But their just aren't that many non MS weapon options in this universe for us to take advantage of. We could probably make the Freeden somewhat less pathetic by attaching SRA tank turrets on it in good locations. We'd need to find a few to salvage though.
>>27239318Well, we are a trader with some connections - maybe we can check our contacts if someone is selling some salvage or battleship parts. Failing that, we'll probably run into some raiders or bandits and loot their shit, or we'll salvage some old base.Have Garrod stay on Freeden as our representative, give him the Gundam X (he'll need it more than we do) and go have salvaging adventures in a Daughtress Custom.
>>27239167Well after seven space wars, there's hardly any hardware but MS left. There's quite a bit of flight capable MS and a large number of MS whose roles and gear are for tank/arty/spag analogues.
>>27239167Get out spacebattles tankerfag.
>>27239434most of the "Land Battleships" in the series have a single, small, forward facing gun. That's kinda pathetic.
>>27239522Yeah, but the Freeden has 2!...we need to pimp this thing out.
>>27239547Looking through the wiki, our options are:1. Salvaging more of the same type of turret that that thing has.2. Salvaging turrets from either the SRA Tank or SRA Combat Armored Car A3. Create a combat turret for a MS weapon.4. The Trieste Class is actually armed decently, so we could steal their missile launchers, though that would probably be much more difficult a job to install.
>>27239661Well, we're going to need a bit of everything, I guess. Those cannons are probably only useful against other land battleships - meaning that we'll need both anti-MS guns and anti-aircraft (because the suits can transform) weaponry. We could probably engineer something if we salvage enough parts.Let's see.Add an additional turret like the one Freeden already has, but on the other side of the ship. That way, it can cover more ground with it's fire. Also, see if it's possible to modify those guns so that they can accept spotter input - if our guys can act as artillery spotters, that'd be pretty cool.Add some typical anti-MS guns that could be used against regular mobile suits. Preferably have them installed so that they cover everything. Maybe add some regular vulcan cannons on them for shooting down enemy missiles. If possible, add some missile launchers and modify them to work as either artillery or support (dropping smoke grenades and such).
>>27239370>Have Garrod stay on Freeden as our representative, give him the Gundam X (he'll need it more than we do) Jesus. No.We paid 100 million for that. We let him have the Daughtress in exchange for working for us. The Gundam X is ours.
>>27239955And we got 75 mil from him, and got him to work for us. So all that stuff is technically ours.Besides, keeping the X around is going to attract more trouble than we could handle. Nobody's going to go after the guy in the Daughtress.
>>27240011New guy here, nope.
>>27240011>And we got 75 mil from him, and got him to work for us.No. We got his servitude in exchange for the Daughtress+custom equipment. >Besides, keeping the X around is going to attract more trouble than we could handle. So when combat happens, the kid gets the MS with a giant bullseye on it instead of us?
About a week has passed since you and Garrod were unofficially inducted into the Freeden's crew. Within that time, Jamil has managed to recover a great deal of his strength, and Witz and Roybea have decided to stay on the crew as full time pilots for the Freeden, thus greatly bolstering its firepower. With the four of you staying under the Freeden's employ indefinitely, you all managed to convince the crew to modify a spare room into a sort of recreational room, with a bar, pool table, and television. While Sala voiced her disapproval, you managed to convince her that such an "investment" would improve crew morale, and help regular stress levels. With the major obstacles removed, the four of you, along with some volunteers from the crew, managed to scrounge up the furniture, materials, and money to complete your little pet project."Eight ball, corner pocket." you declare, smirking. with a loud -crack- of your pool cue, you hear the satisfying clack of cue ball against its intended target, grinning as you hear the -thunk- of the eight ball reaching its destination."Aw man!" exclaims Roybea. "If I knew you were such a pool shark, I'd have opted for a foosball table, or air hockey, or something...""That's not our problem. Now you and WItz better keep up your end of the bet and hand us our winnings." says Garrod, grinning at the beleaguered duo.The two Gundam pilots, sigh, and shell out one hundred dollars each. With the two of you each one hundred dollars richer, you leave the room. Garrod makes his way down the hall to Tiffa's quarters, while you head to the Hangar.Over the past few days, Kid Salsamille, the Freeden's head gearhead, has approached you several times about possible upgrades to the GX.(cont'd.)
Finally, you've settled on one of three modifications.>Buster Sheath Rifle + Holster Shield (Removes Shield Buster Rifle, and adds +1 Large Beam Sword to inventory. Keeps the Gundam X's Satellite Cannon while increasing its versatility.) Roll 1d20+4 to modify. DC is 12.>X Divider Upgrade (Removes the Satellite Cannon in exchange for a special multi-function shield. Overall Firepower is decreased in exchanged for enhanced mobility. Roll 1d20+4 to modify. Do we have a plan for what are we going to turn the GX into?I'm all for some sniping action or heavy damage.
>>27242287Not sure. From what I can tell we plan to up-gun our land battleship into something resembling an actual battleship at some point. We probably also need to think about getting our minion a better unit, or at least getting the guy a gun.
>>27242287We're apparently turning the Gundam X into this thing. We're increasing the firepower of the Satellite Cannon, while giving it the option to ration out its gathered energy between three shots like the Wing Gundam's Buster Rifle. We're also getting some leg mounted missile launchers, and relocating the machine cannon normally mounted on the backpack to a compartment inside one of the shoulders.
>>27242340Maybe we can combine a gun and his heat axe into one weapon? Call it the Gunbuster.Either way, we need to upgrade his Daughtress. So far, it's a regular one with some advanced sensors on top of it. Maybe something that'd go with that sandboard? Make it a fast hit-and-run unit.

>>27243213Well okay then. Writing!
>>27243216They are likely too new to salvage without going up against the union directly. If we are asking what we want to steal from those guys to give him I have to go with the NRX-016 Rasveht, or the Double X.
>>27243167Well, considering the rest of our team, we could use either a fast skirmisher or another aerial support unit. The GX is (at the moment) a heavy ranged hitter, the Leopard (Roybea's suit) is a ranged suppression / heavy hitter without the ability to fly, and the Airmaster (Witz's suit) is a flying CQC unit. We could make a flying scout unit with high maneuverability whose job is spotting, harassing and ambushing enemies.

You decide to check up on Garrod and Tiffa, who seem to be sitting in her room... drawing?"Oh, hey Boss!" says Garrod, giving you a small wave. His hands seem to be covered with charcoal stains, as are Tiffa's."Hey, squirt. What're you two drawing?"Garrod picks up the canvas he was drawing on, showing what looks like a rough sketch of a Daughtress or two; his if the large Heat Hawk is of any indication. However, there seems to be more to the drawing than the suit itself."I was thinking of asking Kid for some upgrades to the Daughtress." he says, looking at his drawing. "I was thinking of something that could add some firepower to it, and increase its mobility. I don't know if there's any parts to convert it into a Daughtress Weapon-slash-High Mobility hybrid, but I couldn't really tell if there were the parts available for a conversion like that..."You smile; the kid certainly was creative; that was for sure. Though there weren't the parts he needed, you remember that Kid was attempting to sell you on a high mobility upgrade for the GX before you settled on the Hyper Spec designs. You turn your attention to Tiffa, whose drawing is... far more detailed than Garrod's, that was for sure. As for what, it was..."What's that, Tiffa?"She looks at you, then to her drawing. Apparently, she's not quite finished, as she puts her charcoal to the canvas and continues drawing."A place where we need to go..." she says, finally."What's there?" you ask, raising an eyebrow."An ally..." she says simply, continuing to draw."An ally? Really; as good as you were, the level of skill Kid has was astounding."Thanks, Kid." God, that was weird; especially since you called Garrod "kid" a lot, which served to be a constant source of confusion for the Freeden's mechanic."I know you just got done working your ass off, but I have a favor to ask. You know that Multipurpose shield-thing you were trying to sell me on? Personally, I like most grunt suits. The biggest Gundams I like are the RX-79[G] and Ez8, even.I think our battleship should have the following:1. Active defense system against shit like missiles. Something like the trophy system. Have it shoot a laser or shotgun like blast.2. Artillery-tier guns.3. Anti-MS machine guns, with a turret that also fits a co-axial machine gun, grenade machine gun or normal to handle light vehicles and personnel.

You decide that it would be prudent to familiarize yourself with your upgraded Gundam, and see how it handles. You make sure to stick close to the Freeden, and take whatever pointers Witz and Roybea have to offer you.If there was one thing Kid was right about, it was that the Hyper-Spec handled really well. The controls were really responsive, and the thrust on its boosters was impressive. As you return to the Freeden, you see that Kid is making quite a bit of progress with your request; the Daughtress' backpack has been swapped out, and you can seem him mounting a pair of GX-9900 Beam Swords onto the storage racks. The shield is still in pieces, but from what you can tell, it's a complicated piece of machinery. After dinner, everyone is called to the main deck, where you can See Jamil, who seems to have fully recovered, and Tiffa, who is holding her drawing in hand."Everyone," he announces, gesturing to the charcoal drawing.
