You are John James Green. You’re a mutant, and a vagrant. You’ve woken up early this morning. No sleeping in today – you’ve got actual work to do, of a sort. The Bugle wanted you in at six thirty, on the dot, and that’s precisely when you intend to arrive. It’s JJ Green’s first day at (honest) work in a stretch of four-or-so-years, and he’ll be damned if he’s coming in late. You stretch and pull yourself up. If that cheap piece of plastic tat on your wrist is still working, its 5:45, AM. Snow’s deepened again. Quarter of an inch? Half? You’re not sure, but it’s definitely getting thicker. Your abode for the night was a little niche round the back of a Turkish delicatessen, bout half an hour’s walk from the Bugle. Opposite you, Laura is cooped up against one of the big metal bins that house the street’s leftovers. You’re not quite sure what to do about her. You promised to help her out, maybe keep a look out for some work, but apparently she can’t get too public... and, well… she’s not what you’d describe as a people person. >Current Funds: $16.50>Hunger Level: 4/10[ ] Head to the Bugle.[ ] Wake up Laura. You know the answer, but it’s been wrapped up in your head for so long, and the wrappings are made of fire. You glance about uneasily, as if you’re expecting someone to be listening in. They’re not, of course – nobody cares about two deadbeats on the side of the road, not when there’s shopping to be done and lights to go up. But you just can’t help it. “Well, it’s not Christmas without family.” That’d be the first time you’ve mentioned them in… what? Three years? You don’t even know anymore. As you filter in around the early-morning crowd waiting for their train, you notice a pair of officers wearing bright yellow bands around their arms. Winter’s been tough and you’ve mostly been making a point to conserve energy. You shed your invisibility and slow down into a jog as you approach the threshold. The lady at the counter recognizes you and quickly cups her palm around the she’s talking into, pointing towards one of the doors to the side. You smile and head on through. I didn't think so." - George Washington, 1789.
>[X] Do it. More money! >[X] Track down Laura. You get your name jotted down for early morning tomorrow and head out. Bummer, you hope it’s not serious.Heading back out, you walk back towards your meeting point with Laura. It strikes you that you didn’t actually ask her where, exactly, her workable vantage points were. That could be a bit of a problem. You sweep past the alley you slept in last night. Nobody. You’re actually getting a little worried when someone whistles several stories above you. You look up, and a scrunched-up falafel wrapper hits you squarely in the face. >>26964561Nice. Thus continues the rise of the hobo!
>>26964561Sweet! So, what shall we develop?
>>26964561What kind of upgrades can we get?
>>26964561You should make a char sheet on pastebin with our abilities, dice modifiers and possible upgrades, it wil make it easier to keep track of everything.
>>26964561we should improve out invisiblity we should also begin work on attending a suit of unstable molecules
There are three types of powers you can purchase in Homeless Mutant Quest! CORE POWERS, which are the bread and butter of your powerset, SECONDARY POWERS, which are additional abilities or powers from other sets that are also appropriate to yours, and TERTIARY POWERS, which are powers only tangentially related to yours. All can be purchased and levelled, but Tertiary Powers can never be maxed out. Powers have five levels… except when they don’t.The powers currently available to you are:CORE POWERS: >Invisibility Lvl2>Enhanced Senses Lvl2SECONDARY POWERS: >Enhanced Agility Lvl1>Claws & Fangs Lvl1>Adhesive Touch Lvl1>Pheromone Manipulation Lvl1>Envenomed Touch Lvl1>Paralytic Touch Lvl1 >Vampiric Touch Lvl1 >Electrostatic Touch Lvl1>Light Armour (scales) Lvl1>Phasing Lvl1TERTIARY POWERS: >Enhanced Strength Lvl1>Healing Factor Lvl1>Medium Armour (carapace) Lvl1You have one point to spent. First level powers cost one point, second level powers cost two, and so on. The exceptions are your Core Powers, which cost one less than usual.
>>26964711>Invisibility Lvl2Lets bump invisibility.
>>26964665That is a good idea.
>>26964711>>Phasing Lvl1what does phasing do?
>>26964711What does Invisibility lvl2 does?Does it decrease the DC or gives the ability to move while invisible or something else?
>>26964711Invisibility level 2 please. Gotta stealth mode our way through this.Incidentally, will we gain a cardboard box upon maxing out Invisibility?
>>26964561>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X_2IdybTV0The perfect way to end anything.>>26964711Definitely Phasing Lvl 1
>>26964711Healling factor are you kidding me?that
>>26964829We don't know how good it is. Also we still have to learn how efficient phasing is.
>>26964845true but look at the abuse even minor healing factor can put up, look at fantomex
>>26964711We need for you to give us a rundown on certain abilities and how well the perform under current levels.
>>26964874He can also do fancy mind manipulation though. Of course I agree with you that we should get healing sooner or later, though I'm just not certain if it is so beneficial looking at our current state.
>>26964829Lvl 1 is probably less than .1 snikt bub. Healing a broken leg in a day isn't that great if we can just phase that shit .
>>26964893The fancy mind manipulation isn't what saved his two primary brains when they got spear though, that was all the healing factor. and his is canoninly pretty weak
>>26964773Invisibility lvl2 is still chameleonic. It can be maintained for longer, however, and is more useful in motion. In addition, it negates thermal imaging.>>26964771Lvl1 Phasing allows you to very briefly turn intangible. It should be noted that it cannot be used as the same time as invisibility.>>26964829Lvl1 Healing Factor can quickly heal minor wounds and help mitigate blood loss. You can over ever reach Lvl3 Healing Factor, as it is a Tertiary Power.
>>26964959given the information... I will go with Invisibility.
>>26964890Tell me which ones you want explained, and I'm here.
>>26964959At what point of healing power starts the ridiculous Deadpool like immortality? What is level three?
>>26964986Could we rip someone's face with adhesive touch?
>>26964986What does Electrostatic touch do? Just give a jolt of electricity to someone? As for enhanced agility, how will that improve our rolls?additionally, if vampiric touch regains lost hp, how much is restored?
>>26965026I like the way you think even if it is kinda stupid
>>26964997>At what point of healing power starts the ridiculous Deadpool like immortality?Never. Deadpool cannot die because Death loves him too much. Lvl3 Healing Factor allows you to heal severed limbs over the course of several days. You can shrug off small arms relatively quickly and devote effort to quickly healing shattered or broken bones. You cannot heal from headshots, and are unlikely to heal from damage to the heart.
>>26965026Yes, though that would take some force. >>26965042>What does Electrostatic touch do? Just give a jolt of electricity to someone? At Lvl1, yes. It can also be conducted through the appropriate materials. It becomes more and more lethal at higher levels and eventually does not require touch, rather than near-contact.>As for enhanced agility, how will that improve our rolls? You'll gain a bonus to all tumbling, acrobatic checks, or balance. At later levels it also enhances basic dexterity.>additionally, if vampiric touch regains lost hp, how much is restored? At lvl1, it simply renews your stamina and vitality. At lvl2 it becomes capable of healing wounds.
>>26965148alright, thanks for the info. I'm still going with Invisibility, but I think I have a good idea of what to take, next.
>>26965148When you say stamina and vitality, would that also restore our hunger level?
>>26965148I think we could save a bit on food bills with vampiric touch, just sap a little bit from random people on the street, it'd be a great combo with invisibility too
>>26965148I guess I'll vote for Invisibility 2 first then for vampiric the next time.
>>26965229I am not comfortable with the whole "Draining people's life energy" idea, simply because that's a dick move and we might run afoul of other heroes if we get found out.
>>26965255I second this idea.
How obvious is using vampiric touch? How noticable would relieving one hunger point per person be? Could we shut it off?
>>26965229You do remember we have X23 as a friend right? We will never be hungry again once we find out about that shit.
>>26965148So with Phasing does it work like Kitty Prides? like going through walls and shit. because If so, then yes. I vote that
>>26965269At level one, reducing a hunger point via one person would drain them greatly, but not kill them.. This becomes substantially more efficient as the ability levels up.It's quite obvious in that it clearly causes folk to feel fatigues, but you could conceivably move through a crowd touching numerous people.
>>26965210that sounds tempting except the part where we would be "praying" on people esencialy which wouldnt realy fit with our "boy, thing are realy looking up for JJ, from here on Im going to be 2 legit 2 quit" it just seems too much like mugging someone mutie style, and i expect it would feel like "jesus fuck my flesh is on fire" so not realy chamelionic-ish
Why, on earth, would we want to use vampiric touch to steal foods when we can go invisible and steal food?Which is more likely to get us killed. Also, which would you be more willing to accidentally lose control over, invisibility, or death jazz hands?
>>26965300Yes. At first it can only be active for seconds at a time, however.>>26965327>folk to feel fatiguesFatigue. They could feel fatigues is that's what they're wearing, I guess.
>>26965365A couple of seconds is enough to go through a wall. It seems like way more bang for our buck than vamp touch, my vote is for the first level of phasing first then branching into other things
>>26965365>feel fatigues is what they're wearingUhhhCrusty, you might want to hit the sack
>>26965327>Phase through shop wall>Take food>Phase outReplace the food with money from a store or bank and we're good.Fucking invinicble while phasing means those dart gun can fuck themselvesPhase is OP
>>26965365are fangs and claws retractable so that we dont have another point in "look theres a mutie, get yer pitchforks n' torches boys"
Get Invisibility lvl 2next point goes to Enhanced senses so we can have Spidey sense and not get cornered by assholes in a subway. After that, healing lvl 1.
>>26965428of course, this doesn't quite take into account how horrible our rolls will be. Best not to risk it until we have enough point to boost it to level 2 in one go.
>>26965365when will new thread be?
Invisibility so we can use the train more effectively, then go into phasing
My vote's for Phasing.By far the most useful thing we can pick up for a point, even in limited shitty form. Can't bag what you can't grab, more invisibility later will be good also.
Invisible 2gotta strengthen our bread and butterand Crusty, consider getting a Pastebin account. should help keep track of stats, points, xp, and powers
>>26965456Still gives a way to dodge bullets. Rolling not to eat lead is better than just eating lead
>>26965442>no phasing or vampiric touchIt's like you want to be useless and boring. That's just my oppinion though.
>>26965421Probably, yeah.>>26965428It's a good power. It switches off invisibility while you use it, however, and you need to level it before you can phase through EVERYTHING. Lasers, for example, will still touch you at lvl1. And you'll still feel heat and cold and such.>>26965432Yep.
>>26965492>>26965487it's called concentrating on a skill and not branching out into a Master of None where we suck equally at all things.
>>26965365I gota admit phaseing sounds prety boss, we could become a spookie ghost
>>26965463Within four days. Lame, I know. >>26965483Imma pick one up before the next thread.
>>26965513Phasing is hard out of the way, we go invisible, going incorporeal is just another branch of the same tree. We do need to level cloak, although it can take a back seat next to a life saving power of Phase
Rolled 43>>26965538You got a twitter to post the thread? Also invisibility is too useful to ignore when we are homeless.
>>26965515Phasing is cool and a solid choice but I kinda want to more original with powers.Vampiric or paralytic touch sound more interesting when coupled with invisibility.I already voted for invisiblity 2 btwwe should probably pick a mutant name in case we become join X-men or Brotherhood or something.I'll get the ball rollingCamo
What if we take phasing but then when we phase we phase through the ground of the earth then we run out of phase while we're falling through the earth and unphase.Would we explode? What happens if we unphase when we're going through a wall or something.
>>26965566We should level of Invisibility, get rid of heat signature so if someone does come after us, we can hide out. Phasing will come in handy, sure, but one bad roll and we'd get stuck in a wall or we flub it and smack ourselves into a truck we were suppose to pass through. Until we have enough to get up to level 2 in Phase in one go (where hopefully the ability is more stable), Phase isn't something I want to touch
>>26965575I... do not. It's very very likely that the next thread will be late Thursday. Britbong time. Also, it seems we're torn between Phasing and Invisibility. Can I get a quick, straight-up show of hands for each?
>>26965648I vote invisibility
>>26965637>What if we take phasing but then when we phase we phase through the ground of the earth then we run out of phase while we're falling through the earth and unphase.Would we explode? You'd merge horrifically with the Earth. Instadeath.>What happens if we unphase when we're going through a wall or something. At lower levels? You merge horrifically. At high levels the not-you substance is displaced.
>>26965686fucking called it!
Rolled 47>>26965648Invisibility here, and its a good idea to have a twitter or a set date/time for these threads in my opnion.
>>26965513I can understand your point but a 100% increase in available powers is just a way better deal than slightly better hiding. You have to remember this is our first skill point. There isn't really much specialisation here to begin with and it fits the stealth tactics.
>>26965631Camo sounds like a good name. I'll vote for it.
>>26965686Just to get a lid on this, let's pick invisibility because it's our home power.>captcha James
>>26965686>>26965700well then we better not phase through the ground oe unphase while in something then, problem solved
>>26965631I was thinking more along the lines of Feywalker or Bendersnatch.
>>26965716never heard of Critfails before?
>>26965736what? for our hobo asses? that's too classy.
>>26965736why not something simple like spook
>>26965716Wrenchie has a point, the chance of instant DEATH at a rate of 1/20 is a little too high for my liking.
Rolled 16>>26965768I like Spook, it goes with my KISS motto.
Invisibility wins with five votes to Phasing's three. Be proud, you have gained the power to be more invisible.>>26965701I agree. I'll see about becoming more of a social media person. That said, late Thursday -most likely- 17:00-18:00. Roar Britannia time. That's what I can give you guys right now.And... I'm off. There are silly informational books to edit and they won't edit themselves.
Pashing>>26965768I like this
Rolled 40>>26965686Hey crusty can you give us a hint on what the other levels of invisibility will give us since at level two it seems like its already pretty useful and won't be upgraded past it.
>>26965749>>26965785its not like we plan on going through things that would take more than at most 2 steps, were talking about walls here not entire buildings made of solid concrete all the way through guys, we wouldnt need to have phasing on for more than a full second so its not nearly as dangerous as your making it out to be theres always regeneration if we do fuck up
>>26965855Maybe it'll start erasing our presence entirely, removing the smell, no footprints, muffled sounds and whatnot, or maybe we can make other things we touch invisible as well
>>26965902never underestimate the dice gods.
>>26965902I don't like that option mostly because we'd have to turn off stealth mode to use itLike that other anon, I wanna get real good at invisible before we try branching off>>26965924probably heat signature, smell, and make other stuff invisible. not sure what order we'd get them though.
>>26965929i would imagine if we did crit fail we wouldnt go through at all and not be killed buy going half way and cuting it off early and dead, thats not something a good DM would do, you realy need to not think its going to kill us unless we as a playerbase do something stupid like phase out a wall into the air 4 stories from the ground, that wouldnt be the powers fault it would be the players. and if you still say you dont want it we could always get it and not use it untill we get it to LVL 2 which doesnt dismember us if it would make you happy because walking through everything is fucking invalueable
>>26966055This gave me an idea. 4 story building with an inaccesible basement. We jump from the roof to be fast enough to reach the basement while holding our breath. We need to find a spot this could work and do it!
>>26966027it could be our last resort fuck everything and run button if we got in a situation where invisibility doesnt help us, it doesnt hurt to have it for just such an ocasion
>>26966055depends on certain definitions of a Good DM. In any case, I'd suggest saving up 3 points to boost us directly to level 2 in Phasing.
>>26966102Im all for team phase but how would we get out if we need that kind of momentum too get in, and how would we build it at all and it seems rather unnessessary.
>>26966190Of course it's unnecessary. The point is just doing it! Getting out... well that might get awkward.Hobo first aid supply drop team for people buried under rubble?
>>26966155i honestly dont think he would fuck us over and end the quest over one fuck up, plus we have karma as backup. and we probably wouldnt need a roll for every time we phase aswell so its not realy a big deal
>>26966271Trust me, not all DM's are nice guys. We've only been here for two threads, not nearly enough to gauge him or the seriousness of the game. As for Karma, don't rely on it too much. It's an emergency thing, after all.
>>26966240what we could do is a street-level safehouse that has 1 way in that can be baricaded and locked with alot of locks which will always be on lockdown that we just phase through and unlock if we want to let some buddies in
>>26966376better yet, maybe at higher levels we could phase them in with us
Crusty forgot to archive the thread.I got your back homievote suckas
>>26966327death by wallification (which has a slim chance itself ) is an emergecy, which is the situation we are most likely to want to use phase, an emergency get the fuck out now button to be used in an emergency, im not seeing the down side to having it on standby. and i doubt he would make one critfail fatal and game ending.
>>26966408we could call it ghost town
>>26966494I'd rather have enough invisibility that we didn't get stuck in that kind of situation.I'd rather become a master of invisibility instead of a shitty invisible and a shitty phaser.
>>26966522>>26966376>talking about getting a base/safehouseIts good to have ambitions but we can blow our lifesavings on cab fare
