((Previous threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=origin+questThread 1-3 Recap: http://pastebin.com/dZwSYWkACharacters/Abilities: http://pastebin.com/nUJVYzBqThere's a Twitter now, which I will try earnestly to use:https://twitter.com/OriginsQuest Let's see how well a late Sunday start treats us, eh?))“Gotta say, these noodles?” Anders says, between forkfuls of pad Thai, “Pretty fucking awesome.”“Right?” You grin. “I told you you'd like it.”“How did I not know about this place?” Michael asks. He leans back in his chair, taking another look at the decorations around the place; the small restaurant's walls are a tangerine color, with the whole place lit by mock lanterns hanging from the ceiling, light bulbs suspended within their centers. “It's amazing.”“Cheap, too.” Caroline smiles from behind a takeout menu. She seems to be doing a lot better, though you question whether or not she could presently activate her Origin without killing herself.“It's one of my friend Anne's favorite places. Just a little hole-in-the-wall you wouldn't expect to be so good.” You respond. “That's how I found out about it, anyway. We came here for her birthday. It really does seem almost like a secret place, doesn't it?”“You know, I love a girl with a lot of secrets.” Michael leans towards you, and you plant a palm on his forehead to halt his approach, causing him to start a bit and produce a displeasured grunt. The others at the table laugh a bit, but your gaze drifts toward the door. An older man enters, dressed all in black—button-down shirt, slacks, and a cowboy hat—and meets your glance briefly as he makes his way into the restaurant and sits down a few tables across from yours.“Speaking of secrets, Camille, you never showed us what your power is all about!” Caroline says, finishing a bite of rice. “Come on, even I did it, with your help. You can't even give us a hint?”What will you do?
>>26701251"I can see things others can't, that's all."
“I can see things others can't. That's all.” It stands to reason you should only give up as much information as necessary, even if these guys are your friends. They don't need to know what your Origin is for you to use it to help them, after all.“Like invisible forces, or something?” Anders asks. “That would explain how you were able to assess the area taken up by my waves so accurately. Is that how you avoided them, too?”“Yeah, something like that.”“So, maybe Vision, or Sight?” Caroline muses.“Hey,” You change the subject. “Are you guys ready to head out?”“Can't leave unless Michael's ready.” Anders says. “He's the one footing the bill, remember?”The restaurant has been pretty quiet; there's no customers aside you, the foreign staff, and the guy that just walked in. You're temped to tell Michael that it's not polite to stare, as you notice he hasn't taken his eyes off the individual since he walked in. Likewise, he occasionally looks back over at your table, sipping from a glass of ice water.“Michael, you ready?” Caroline asks.“Huh, what? Oh, right?” Michael responds, shaking his head. “Let me, uh, finish this bite, and we'll be good to go.”What will you do?
>>26701478Use our powers on the guy. See if we can see what Michael finds so interesting.
>>26701478Just wait for him, what else can we do?
>>26701478Make sure that there aren't any other Originals in the area. Then use Perception on the guy in the cowboy hat. Try to read his body language, see if he's calm or tense, if he's waiting or watching, how much attention he's paying us. Maybe see if we can make out the contours of a hidden weapon in his clothes, gather as much info on him as possible.
>>26701710>>26701577You do realize >>26701269 was lying right?
>>26701727"That's all" was a lie, yes.
A strange feeling comes over you, and for a moment, you become sick enough of Michael's antics to strangle the life out of him, despite having known him for mere hours.Just for a moment. You lower your quivering hands, and decide instead to see what exactly he finds so interesting about the restaurant newcomer. Invoking your Origin, you take a closer look. Elbows on the table, he hides a mischievous grin behind folded hands; indeed, you can see a shape in the seat of his pants suggestive of a concealed item. More interesting, however, is the fact that he seems to exude some sort of disconcerting aura that bleeds into the air nearby—though your senses tell you that you, Anders, and Caroline are the only nearby Originals. If he's somehow deceiving your senses, though? The two of them would have absolutely no idea.“Yo, guys. What's your deal?” Anders gives you and Michael an irate glare from across the table, and you shake off your perceptive state. “Do you know that guy, or something?”“Hey, keep it down. I think that's Morgan Mattheson.” Michael responds, in a hoarse whisper. “You know, that famous poker player?”“How much random bullshit do you know?” Anders asks.“Dude, come on. My dad watches professional poker sometimes. They've called him Morgan Moneymaker, before. Apparently, he's damn good. I didn't know he was from around here!” Michael shrugs, then pulls out a few bills from his wallet and hands them to you. “You guys want to cover the bill? I gotta get an autograph.”What will you do?
>>26701849Let Micheal go and get the autograph, make sure he pulled out enough cash from his wallet to cover the bill, tip well since Micheal is paying. While Micheal is going over to talk to the poker player keep an eye on the poker player, see how he reacts, if it shakes him up.I'm thinking he might have an Origin, one about concealment and hiding, something that gives him a truly impeccable poker face.
>>26701849I'm going home, I've got some training to do.
>>26701849"Be careful, I have a bad feeling about him."
We shouldn't be overly worried about Morgan Moneymaker, so let's pay the bill and leave.
“Be careful. I've got a strange feeling about him.” You take the money, and Michael leaps up with a massive grin and darts toward the other table while the three of you head to the counter.“I'll be right back, actually.” Caroline says, beginning to make her way toward the bathroom. “You guys got it covered?”“Yeah.” Anders says. “No problem.”The counter divides the kitchen from the restaurant proper, and is set up such that you can watch whoever's handling the cooking, for whatever reason. The man smiles at you and Anders, pointing to your combined bill on the register's small digital screen. You hand him the appropriate number of bills, but he seems to struggle with opening the register for a few seconds. He gives it a sharp tug, but the tray comes loose from the machine and he slips on the floor, slides backwards, and slams his head into the opposite counter, falling to the ground in a storm of coins and bills. You and Anders immediately lurch forward, and the woman cooking turns to investigate, but can barely wheel around before the pot of boiling stew she stands over erupts into her face, sending her stumbling a few feet away before she falls to the ground.“Oh, my.” The restaurant falls silent for a few seconds before Morgan chimes in from a distance away. He hands Michael an autographed piece of paper, then pushes him aside, prompting another disquieted groan. “That was unfortunate.”The poker player saunters towards you and Anders. “So, here's how we're gonna do things. One of you two—or the other girl, for that matter—is going to come for a ride with me. Not sure when you're going to be able to come back, either...”What will you do?
>>26702332Observe the fuck out of him, check his body language, look for microexpressions, don't just use sight, see if we can smell things like how much he's sweating, what sort of places he's been lately, if he has any odors that are sticking to him. Look at his eyes and see what he's paying attention to, what he turns his eyes to look at. See what he's wearing and what that implies."You are more than a bit obvious Mr. Mattheson. I'm sure you wouldn't mind telling us a bit more about what all this about before anyone comes with you."
>>26702332"Um, what? No. Let's call an ambulance."
“You're more than just a bit obvious, Mr. Mattheson.” You say, and attempt to focus your Perception through measures other than your sight. It's a bit of a strange feeling, but you can pick up on the scents that cling to his clothes—heavy cigarette smoke, reminiscent of the casino further uptown, and perhaps a vague smell of gunpowder. “I'm sure you wouldn't mind telling us a bit about what this is all about before anyone comes with you?”“What the hell? Don't you think we should call an ambulance?” Anders pulls out his cell phone and begins dialing; he presses it to his ear, then checks it again and continues frantically dialing. “The fuck is going on?”“What, there's no service in here?” Morgan asks. You watch carefully as he brings his hand around to the approximate location of whatever he's got concealed. “Just awful. What are the chances of that? Now, then, girl. It doesn't seem like you're in any position to ask questions, so choose which one of you or it might get ugly in here.”What will you do?
>>26702773"I elect that none of us accompanies you and things remain beautiful."Keep Perception locked on Morgan and be ready to disarm him at any hint of drawing on us.
My initial suspicion is that he has some kind of luck-related ability. If so, it's worth remembering that everything is cause and effect when you look closely enough.
>>26702773Subtly approach closer to him to better deal with anything he whips out of his pocket. Keep Perception active on him, be ready to act if he reaches for whatever he has concealed. In order for him to grab that he's going to have to move his hand, his shoulders will probably telegraph it before he does it."Now now, nobody here wants any trouble. Tell you what, I'm curious. Why don't you calm down and tell me where I'd be going and I'll come with you."
You begin drawing subtly closer, keeping an eye on his shoulder—if he makes a move for his gun, it'll be the first thing you'll see. “None of us want trouble. How about you tell me where we'll be going, and I'll come with you?”“Camille, I think this guy wants trouble.” Anders assumes a nervous defensive stance.“Call it a bit of a thought experiment.” The man in black sighs. “Tell you what. If you still think I'm just going to tell you, then how about we raise the stakes a little bit?”You invoke your Origin—your head throbs, and time starts to slow as he begins the motion of drawing his concealed weapon, producing what appears to be a revolver. He starts to level it towards one of you, and you begin moving in an attempt to disarm him. What will you do?>1d20 with next action
Rolled 4>>26703182Guns are not really all that dangerous for us. Bullets move in a straight line from the barrel, all we have to do is not be in a direct line from the barrel. With our feet move in even closer, if possible move to the side of his body which is holding the gun to get outside of his line of vision and make it extremely difficult to turn and aim the gun at us and stomp on one of his feet as hard as we can. With one of our hands go and grab the barrel of the gun, use that as a lever to twist it and break his index finger which should be inside the trigger guard, with our other hand hit him right in the nose with our palm driving upwards in order to utterly fuck up his nose and break the hell out of it.
Rolled 16>>26703306Rerolling for this. Or force the barrel down as he's raising it before his grip is truly secure and shoot him in the foot.
Rolled 6>>26703306Yeah, rolling for this.
Rolled 11>>26703306This is good. So sad we will get shot because low roll tho.We should also use our powers just to check if this guy is not alone, maybe there is more people outsiderolling because it's fun to roll
>16When you really think about it, guns don't pose a major threat to you; if you're not in a straight line from the barrel, you won't get hit. You dart to one side, hoping to clear his line of sight before he can react, then bring your foot down on his as sharply as possible. You reach for the barrel of the gun, and grab it—he fires, kicking your grip upward, and eclipsing all else with the sound of the explosion.Your perception wavers, and he begins to draw the weapon backward, turning his arm as you twist the gun to avoid a broken finger; you drive your hand up to hit his nose with a palm strike, but he turns his face to one side, and your hand slams into the side of his head, sending him stumbling backwards. You take another step forward, aiming to twist the gun out of his grasp, but you feel your foot hit a wet patch on the ground; your footing wavers, and you begin to fall to one side as another shot rings out, destroying one of the restaurant windows. You lose your grip on the gun, and hit the ground skidding, immediately scrambling to your feet.[1/2]
>4You hear a creaking from above you, and start to move out of the way; stunned, you react a moment too slowly, and are struck in the chest by what looks to be a broken light fixture. The wind is knocked out of your lungs, and you hear something crack as you stumble backwards and brace yourself against a table.Anders appears to have gotten by a bit worse off than you; he's gripping his shoulder, and you're not sure how bad he got hit. Mattheson recovers quickly, aiming his gun at the stumbling Original of Force, but an immense concussive blast erupts between the two of them, sending chairs sliding outward in all directions and pushing you further against the table you're braced against. The moneymaker's weapon flies out of his hand and skids across the tile floor, toward the opposite end of the restaurant, and he falls into a chair, tips backwards into a fall, then somersaults to his feet, grabbing a knife from a nearby table and throwing it directly at you as he breaks into a run for his weapon. What will you do?
>>26703964(( Forgot to mention, keep rolling. ))
Rolled 10>>26703964Beat him to the gun.
Rolled 1>>26703941First, avoid the fucking knife. Second, keep him away from the gun.
Rolled 18>>26703964Keep our Perception up, we need that right now.Dodging the knife should be a simple affair, try and beat him to the gun. As we're headed towards the gun grab whatever we can as we're moving and fling them towards his skull, this shouldn't really slow us down as we can keep running full speed, while watching for pitfalls and slippery spots, while moving our hands to fling stuff. Prioritize heavy solid objects, his path should be fairly predictable and we are really good at throwing stuff, so he should end up with a good number of plates, chairs, and the like flung right into his head.
Rolled 10>>26704056Third, roll better.
Rolled 6>>26704056rolling for this
>1Avoiding the knife should be a simple affair—you invoke your Origin, and move to sidestep it as you prepare to beat Moneymaker to his weapon.Your head throbs, and your eyes widen as the utensil buries itself between your ribs; you start to move, but begin trembling, then grit your teeth as you pull the knife out, noting your own shortness of breath as you try to keep pace with the man in black. As you run, you reach for utensils of your own to throw, grabbing a pair of plates and a bottle of soy sauce and slinging them his way with all of the strength you can muster as you run.>10He turns to look at you, narrowly ducking under the first couple of plates—your Perception activated, you notice him focusing on something. The bottle of soy sauce, however, looks like it should hit spot-on. It flies directly at his head, but is intercepted midair by a second swinging light fixture, shattering the glass and sending the brown liquid in all directions. This is getting fucking ridiculous.“Camille! Coming your way!” You hear Anders shout, as a burst of force from the far side of the room sends the gun sliding towards you across the floor. Moneymaker turns on a heel, however, and charges down the restaurant aisle, toward you and his weapon. What will you do?>1d20 with next action
Rolled 3>>26704630Move towards the gun as fast as we can, watch our footing very carefully and be careful not to get hit by anything caused by bad luck.Pick up the gun, shoot him in the leg. Remember to keep the gun as far away from him as possible, if we're holding it in our right hand we want to turn the left side of our body towards him so any attempts to grab the gun mean he has to cover more distance across us and gives us more time to react.
Rolled 5>>26704630Duck towards the gun, grab it, and pop off two shots towards Morgan's center.
Rolled 7>>26704630Grab gun, shoot dickbag.
Rolled 2>>26704630Fucking dice.
Rolled 17>>26704934Guys, this guys must be using his power on tg dice as if he needed
>3You reach down to grab the gun as it passes—and it slides beneath your hand.Confused, you look over your shoulder at the weapon, still skidding across the floor, then turn back around in time to catch a fist to the side of your face. You cough; head throbbing, you can see droplets of blood hang in the air as you raise your hands to prepare for another attack. You swing wide at him, aiming to land another blow to the head...>5...but find yourself stunned as he catches your fist, and strikes you in the stomach with his other hand, knocking you back over the table. You black out for a moment, and hear the sound of clattering silverware and plates as you roll over the table and onto the floor.“Oy, that's enough of your shit!” Your vision blurry, you catch Anders approaching Moneymaker from behind at high speed. He extends both of his hands, and you see the air ripple for several feet around the point between them, before an ear-shattering explosion rocks the entire restaurant. You hear glass shattering, and see a storm of furniture, silverware, and ruined decorations.Your head aches, and you find yourself unable to even call upon your Origin. Stunned, you roll to one side as the world around goes black.(( Sorry about slow responses tonight. Gonna have to cut it short. Next thread Wednesday; we'll call it Part 2, I guess. ))
>>26705742Hopefully next time the dice will be more friendly.
>>26705742I knew the Luck Original was going to be problematic.
So was Caroline in the bathroom the whole time? She didn't hear the entire place getting wrecked or anything? And nobody from outside has come to investigate. And we couldn't sense he was an Original. There's an awful lot of hiding things going on that have nothing to do with a Luck power. And it would be kind of silly to attack three Originals by yourself. There's a Stealth Original here too, we just haven't noticed him. With a luck power and an invisible friend looking at everyone else's hands that guy must be so fucking amazing at poker though.
>>26706407You may be right, but it's entirely possible that Caroline's just hiding in the bathroom after hearing gunshots.
Damnt I missed it! Also deez rolls.
