You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. After a great deal of work, you have become a Paladin like your Father, and now take up his duties. You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mari, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.Your journey continues...Opening theme song (NEW for Season 4!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3FKgL7YVFghttp://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Lamia%20Quest1d4 chan page w/battle stats: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Quest:Lamia_Daughter_Quest
You have cried havoc and let loose the dogs of war...or have made this a day of infamy...or awakened the sleeping giants...or pick whatever significantly pithy war saying you want to apply to this day. Either way, the war between the Fey Court/United Free Kingdoms/City-State of White Tree and the Phoenix Empire will hinge upon this day. Either the Empire will be crippled and the armies that it forced to serve them will be freed, or the city of White Tree will be sacked and burned.(Or, a very unpleasant thought pops up in your mind as you suit up in armor, which includes a helmet, is that all of your plans could fail. Then the Empire would march on White Tree and First Wood, seize Citadel, and after that...no. No you can't let yourself think like that.)The plan is pretty basic, using Fell Weed smoke, you'll be able to lure the majority of the Empire's ettin troops, the two headed 12ft tall creatures, towards White Tree. The smoke is a natural and cultural lure/aggravation stimulant, the ettin won't be able to resist. This will cause several other fronts to collapse. Allowing the Fey Court elves, along with orc support, to advance and to do a little sabotage of their own. Hopefully they'll be able to corrupt the indoctrination the Empire uses on their human slaves, turning them against their masters. If all goes well, the empire will lose the entire eastern and southern fronts, two whole armies, and retreat.
>>26566723The down side is that, while the orcs, and Fey Court, are doing that, White Tree will be assaulted by 100 ettins, give or take, along with human slave support. Just you, the Dawnchasers, the Paladins, a few UFK mixed-squads, and the White Tree Defense Force; who vary from white haired men on the wall manning the blackpowder cannons, to the standard trained and skilled longbow or sword-and-shield soldiers, and ending with the far too young Blessed Troopers, with their experimental Shock Packs, and Flame Lances.20 ettins are enough to scatter an entire battalion. You're staring down a force of five times that. The war won't end today, and this battle will hardly be the last, but if you live to see history books made of this war, this battle will be the one that gets its own special chapter.Tricia enters your tent. She's suited up in a bit heavier armor than she normally wears."Hey." She says. Giving your shoulder a soft squeeze. "So...I was thinking I would be hanging in the back, Trying to use my friends as healing support? Spread my special pollen around in this cloud, maybe try and keep the Blessed from getting too badly hurt."She looks at the map. "So, Julian and Kincaid are in the van, huh? Is...is that where you're going to be?" She says. "Toll and Balles are on the flank...and Avery's on the Wall with the Blackpowder Crews." She sighs. "I miss the days when it was just us in a room, trapped with just one or two monsters that wanted to rip our heads off."
Oh shit the lamia quest"Yeah, I'll probably be in the vanguard. I'm the only one even close to the size of an ettin after all, and a paladin to boot. Things really were just so much easier when we could go around the horde and kill the thing controlling it, weren't they? And yeah- I'd appreciate it if you hung back, we'll need as many healers as we can get out there. It's going to be a nasty battle."
>>26566852anyway, this guy here, have we got much of a strategy yet? Can I get a report of how many spears and how much gunpowder this place has? For spearing and trapping, respectively. Also, I assume no fell weed is burning yet, because we're not sick yet.
Well, since other folk aren't here yet, another question. How much poison can we produce? Enough to give the archers a good volley? A bunch of paralyzed or melty giants would be wonderful at tripping the others up. I mean these things are huge. Sage for samefaggotry.
Rolled 15>>26566790"I'll be with my uncle yes. And that sounds like a good idea with the healing support. I miss the old days too."
>>26567097I was hoping for more using our venom to spit clear in ettin eyes,.>>26567102seconding this, with the addition of a lamia hug
>>26567097Actually, could we find a use for Cloudkill here?
>>26567122We'll be spitting for sure, but I want a means of widespread venom use. We're only one person after all. Also I just had a realization: Terry and Tammy, the two slaves we rescued are in this city somewhere. I really hope not in the military. They especially don't deserve this shit after their extended stay in the north.
"Yeah, I'll probably be in the vanguard. I'm the only one even close to the size of an ettin after all, and a paladin to boot. Things really were just so much easier when we could go around the horde and kill the thing controlling it, weren't they? And yeah- I'd appreciate it if you hung back, we'll need as many healers as we can get out there. It's going to be a nasty battle." You say.She kisses you on the cheek. "Take care. May you not die, and all of that." She looks at the map again. The Paladin's plan is a pretty simple one. Ettin horde advances, army holds line, signal is given after a point, secondary force flanks into the horde, pincer attack, and done. It's Avery's work. Very simple, very easy, no overly complicated plans or heavy reliance on any one force.Balles and Toll are on hand to gauge the timing and position of the flanking attack. So you know that they won't screw it up.Kincaid and Julian are crazed fighters and know how to take and give hits. Also Avery can be on the wall and shoot up communication flares if he needs to adjust. It looks fairly cut and dried. The random elements in this plan have been acknowledged and minimized as best they could be. It's a good plan. But for some reason it just gives you a bad feeling. Maybe it's paranoia, or your leviathan brain desperately trying to complicate things for the sheer sake of complexity...or maybe it isn't.
>>26567131maybe, if we gave everyone the instruction to fall back away from us when we pop a certain type of flare.I think a yellow, green, or black flare. Whatever screams "poison" the most.
>>26567158Maybe we could spit it into bottles and give one to each of the Paladins?
>>26567151>gives you a bad feelingI have identified the bad feeling. Ettins are HUGE and we have no spearmen. I suggest planting explosives ahead of our lines that the ettins will have to walk through, and then lighting them with marksman fire.
>>26567161Might not be good idea in case one of them forgets what it was. Cloudkill is only visible to us and maybe other lamia
Rolled 9>>26567178This might be it. I don't know military so I can say for sure, but this sounds good. Not that it matters, things are moving fast now.
I could see one way for things to go wrong. Kingfisher could send assassins after you during battle. He wants all the paladins dead after all.
>>26567208More venom and beacon targets i suppose.
>>26567161Too unwieldy, gotta be careful with gaseous poison. Also, it'd require three seperate bottles to be thrown accurately.>>26567151Give tricia a bit of a hug while you look at the map"It's times like this I can't help but think of all the extra little things I need to do to make this go better. Check for kingfisher spies, dig ankle-breaks for the ettins, set gunpowder kegs to shoot when the enemy force overtakes them, commission spears for those swordsmen... Think we have time to do any of that?"Also I'm not sure about cloudkill you guys. It's a low-lying gas. It might not reach up to ettin breathing height.
Rolled 1>>26567208It's not really assasination if it happens during battle. Not unless they're dressed in our colors.
>>26567253gotta remember there are spies in Whitetree.
>>26567253>dressed our colors>wielding underhive wasp poison>shot out of a blow-gunCalling it this way.
and it won't be after just us, it'll be after the others. If I was the Kingfisher I'd target Mage and Kincaid.
>>26567178>Ettins are HUGE and we have no spearmen. I suggest planting explosives ahead of our lines that the ettins will have to walk through, and then lighting them with marksman fire.Okay, good news, bad news, and a few rolls. The good news is that, the WTDF, and your Mixed-Ranks aren't stupid, you have spears. The bad news is that there aren't that many people trained in spears, effectively. Your own personal style is something unique to Lamia/Naga, so you can't give an effective crash course to people, because they don't have the same kind of flexible spine that you have. There's enough spears, but only about 2 out of every 5 soldiers you have, combined, would be any use with the things in the heat of battle. Avery has soundly gone with a 75-25 split of those forces with the majority being in the frontal army.As for the explosives, and something else. Roll 2d20.
Rolled 9, 16 = 25>>26567293Rollan
Rolled 14, 4 = 18>>26567293
Rolled 11, 17 = 28>>26567293
Rolled 13, 16 = 29>>26567293Oh boy rolling for spies. Also, stupid citadel training forces wrong. Don't you know we need many many spearmen? I wonder if we can have untrained guys brace for a charge, drop their ettin impaled spears, and move on to swords.
>>26567151The problem is that we're banking on a smart plan going well. We've got enemies that can do that better then us.We need to be VERY careful about what we do next. Remember what the first lightbringer thought about their invincibility.
>>26567333But we hardly have claimed invincibility. Unless we were drunk. In which case we totally claimed that, and that we could eat the sun.I agree with you on the smart plan and being careful points though. This plan needs more trenches full of pitch that ettins fall into and burn in and hit-and-run lightning guys on horses.
Rolled 9, 3 = 12>>26567333Gotta spam that morningstar i suppose.wonder if it will work on our fellow pallys this time
>>26567373Let's do the morningstar a few times, sure, but don't forget that when we keep it idling at a full 5 charges we LITERALLY glow with the power of the light. After a beacon discharge or two, we should save a 5count beacon and go to town with claws, being some kind of bloody holy snake tornado.
>>26567405We broke a claw a few days ago, I'm not sure if it's healed or not
>>26567430oh shit you're right, that was just a few days ago. Beacon never breaks on us, good spear. We should take it to the forge one of these days, get it sharpened and... whatever maintenance you do with a spear-y type thing.
>>26567324You've dug ankle-breaks and a pit fall or two, but White Tree is unwilling to give you much in the way of their blackpowder. They're keeping it mostly for the cannons and riflemen on the wall.A little bit of good news though, Sophie's shown up with five of her spell-shooters in their fancy hats."I know it isn't much." She says. (A regular spell-shooter contingent is 10, with grunt support.) "But, well...you guys need the help it sounds like...also..." She looks at Mage who is talking to Kincaid and she sighs and looks away. "Anyway, would you like us on the wall, in the van, or on the flank?"
>>26567474"Sophie! You don't know how glad I am for the help.I think I'd like you on the wall, if you can fire from there. I'm not sure of the range you have on those things, I've never seen 'em in action, but light knows we could use some fireballs raining down on our foes. If for nothing else than effect."Question. How close will we be to the fell weed in the vanguard?
>>26567474..... oh geez, Sophie. Do not get yourself killed over a boy. No matter how awesome. Poor woman's clearly got it bad.The spell-shooters are going to be most effective in the flank, I think. Maximum distribution of area-effect destruction across the less defended portions of their army without making them too vulnerable to counter-attack or too far back to effectively hit the enemy rear ranks.
Rolled 9It would depend how accurate the spellshoters are. If they can act as snipers they'd be better on the walls, but otherwise they should go with crossbowmen.I think.
"Sophie! You don't know how glad I am for the help."I think I'd like you on the wall, if you can fire from there. I'm not sure of the range you have on those things, I've never seen 'em in action, but light knows we could use some fireballs raining down on our foes. If for nothing else than effect." You say."Fire's a bit out of range, but we can hit them with lighting and Eli can do blindness spells.""They aren't...I command Shadow itself!" A girl with too much eyeliner says."Sure, Eli." Sophie rolls her eyes. "Come on girls."Roll 1d20This is for later.
Rolled 9>>26567552"Wait, how much shadow? Over how wide a range? I wonder if I could see in it."
>>26567572..... maybe it's for something good for us?
Rolled 15>>26567552Damn, Too late to roll. Also, if they don't really have the range on the wall then it probably would have been better to have them on the flank or something,
Rolled 19>>26567566Good going sir.
>>26566723>suit of armor>which includes a helmet>HELMETLight be praised! I wonder how it fits.
>>26567718Hopefully we can still spit/bite in it
>>26567789I'm curious. Is it a half helm? One with the flip-up visors? Maybe just a bit of a skullcap?
>>26567718>I wonder how it fits.Pretty well. It's nothing fancy, standard rounded helm with nose bridge and the Nine-Pointed Star of His Light on the front.>>26567575"Wait, how much shadow? Over how wide a range? I wonder if I could see in it." You say.Eli shrugs. "At that range...I think I can try and crack out two, maybe three, people before I have to recharge and reload. It helps that they're such big targets. If you want me to do wide range I need to be closer, but I can play bodyguard if need be." She tilts her head towards Sophie and whispers. "It's not a secret who's going to be getting his own guardian angel."But if you like me, and the other four girls can keep the heat off of the Paladins, or any other specific person, or squad that you want."Just so you know, there's six squads of Blessed. But you're not totally sure which one Denise is in."Ssen." Mari comes up to you. "There's a problem. The Blessed and the Regulars are having...problems...with the Mixed Units. They want to not have to fight with them. The Ehite Tree Brassholes are suggesting that all the Mixed be in the Flank and tat the Regular and the Blessed be in the van.""Do they have the numbers?" Tricia asks as you and she follow Peri/Mari."Yeah, but the Mixed have minotaurs and lizard folk in them." Mari says. "They can take a couple of hits."You see Julian and Kincaid arguing with Billings and a few unpleasantly scarred and battleworn men in white/black armor."Billings is trying to side with Julian and Kincaid, but you know the 'High Father' and how he reacts when his people want him to agree with them." Mari says."They have no place on the battlefield at ALL!" Julian shouts. "They should be on the walls."(cont)
>>26568001"The Blessed have every right to defend their homes." One of the Regular commanders says. "More so than anyone else, also they are the one who know how to use their sacred weaponry. The Free-Thinking Beas-""Do NOT use that word again, Stafford." Kincaid snaps."I will speak as I see it." Commander Stafford says. "The Free-Thinking Beasts can aid us in the assault, but I will NOT have my Blessed be dependent on their presence! If a UFK sees a Blessed or one of their own kind about to die, who will it choose? They WILL protect their own, and I will not allow ANY factor that could cause my Blessed's deaths in this. The Regulars would give their lives a hundred times over for the Blessed. They stay THERE."
Rolled 15>>26568011With due respect, Commander, everyone here is already very dependent on everyone else. Julian is right, we need them on the walls.
Rolled 4>>26568068Bah, should be "Paladin Graves" not "Julian
>>26568011"Wait, does that mean you don't want me in the vanguard? No offence, but I thought you guys would snap at the chance to get someone else besides your own taking the biggest hit.If it makes any difference, I agree with julian that the blessed should be as far back as possible- they're quite young. That, and their swords seem unwieldy to fight with, but just fine to shoot with."
>>26568011"So you're going to throw the relatively squishy Blessed into the van rather than the beefy minotaurs and lizardmen who can take a few hits? Thats SUICIDE, Commander, and you know it! If you want them on the field stick them in the flank, but the Blessed would be much more use on the Wall, where they can use their range advantage to the maximum. Honestly, if you're so protective of the Blessed I'd have thought you'd let the 'free thinking beasts' take the hard hits for them."
>>26568011"Would you call me a beast to my face Commander, or are you merely content to call others beasts behind their backs? The mixed units are far more effective in the vanguard and it would be better for everyone involved if the Blessed focused on their ranged capabilities instead of being crushed between two armies.
>>26568011"This battle is being fought to break the Empire's back. White Tree is only the first domino, after they sack and burn it they will move on to the next target. We are ALL fighting for our homes here.""And while I thank you for valuing the lives of us Beasts so highly as to throw your own cities children into the front line to save us from the brunt of the blow, I must remind you that we are hardy and capable soldiers. We fight not just for White Tree, but for it's future. Please do not be so eager to sacrifice it so readily."
>>26568011"You don't understand the tactics we are employing in this battle, Commander Stafford. The Regulars are being used to hold the line while the Blessed are held in reserve for the counterattack that will break the PE assault in a swift mass assault. With their backs all but broken by the Regulars and fresh troops charging the battlefield, there will be no choice but for the PE to abandon their siege. Just because the Blessed are not on the front lines at all times does not mean that they will be dependent on anyone. Indeed, without the Blessed's counterassault, the siege would continue. The role of the Regulars is supportive in nature, meant to take blows that would weaken the capabilities of the Blessed and allow them to save their strength for the decisive push."
>>26568216>>26568220These two to start off with>>26568068>>26568109These to keep pushing if he doesn't back down.
Rolled 1>>26568216I like the second paragraph.
So is there anyone involved the in leadership of WT that isn't a bigot?
>>26568216>"And while I thank you for valuing the lives of us Beasts so highly as to throw your own cities children into the front line to save us from the brunt of the blow, I must remind you that we are hardy and capable soldiers. We fight not just for White Tree, but for it's future. Please do not be so eager to sacrifice it so readily."I think this will bring Billings on our side. He's a caring man, if a bit of a doormat, and he's not going to like that idea at all.
"If it helps, I'd probably save one of your young ones over an adult soldier. It saddens me that they've been called to the field."
>>26568011"And *I* will speak as I see it, Commander. If we do not work together, everyone loses. You would divide our forces and have them play to their weaknesses, and in doing so send your own troops to their deaths over petty grudges, Commander.Your opinion is noted, but I'll not allow blind hatred to drive up casualties for both the UFK and White Tree, and I would very much appreciate it if you would keep your opinions out of it and think about this from a tactical standpoint, Commander."
>>26568292I'd change this to "any young one". Don't show favouritism to White Tree.
>>26568240this, but take "you don't understand the tactics" line. replace it with something along the lines of "I think you misunderstand what them being on the walls would mean"
Man, this is the weirdest showing of racism I've ever seen to the point of being descriminatory the whole other way.
"With due respect, Commander, *I* will speak as *I* see it. Everyone here is already very dependent on everyone else. Paladin Graves is right, we need them on the walls."You don't understand the tactics we are employing in this battle, Commander Stafford. We fight not just for White Tree, but for it's future. Please do not be so eager to sacrifice it so readily." You say. There's four Black-White Commanders. One of them, thankfully was already on Julian's side, but he's obviously the youngest one, and is just a bit of a Paladin groupie. You can see him nodding along with Julian's words.Your speech has swayed the female commander. The last 'commander' actually isn't a battle commander, but a supply/civilian/logistics NCO. Actually, you recognize that shade of hair. This must be Vivian's father. He's very clearly on your side, as the Blessed are his priority.(cont)
>>26568494Stafford on the other hand, looks to be a dyed in the wool 'Even some Humans aren't Human enough for him' speciesist. He just sneers at you and turns to Billings."High Father, Fellow Champions of the Holy City," He looks at the other Commanders. "You know I was NOT in favor of this plan."Vivan's father and the Female Commander both look at each other startled. Ah, now you know who REALLY wasn't in favor of it."Sir, if I may..." Vivian's father starts "Didn't you say-""I SAID that I was not in favor of THIS plan, we were developing our OWN plan. Remember?" Stafford glares at Vivan's father."Oh...yes...of course." He retreats.Oh, His Light give you patience. It looks like Stafford's going to bully his way into getting Billings and the other Commanders to cave.Julian and Kincaid look like they're ready to kill this prick...which probably wouldn't be useful at this immediate moment.
>>26568504"So tell me, what IS your plan? I'd be all too happy to hear it if its better than ours."
Rolled 4>>26568504>"I SAID that I was not in favor of THIS plan, we were developing our OWN plan. Remember?"Oh man. This guy. At this late stage trying to change things is only going to get people killed. He might well be right that they could form a better plan, but it's too late now to do anything other than support the plan that is being enacted.
>>26568504*shift position on our coils so we're a few feet taller than Stafford*"Stafford, if you are going to bully these people into sacrificing the youth of this city, I suggest you go through me first."
>>26568504"Do tell then. Give me your plan that somehow has the mixed forces on the flank and the blessed in the vanguard. It might be genius, who knows, but right now it sounds like you're just going to get a bunch of kids killed."
>>26568504I will not see the battle lost simply because you cannot do anything else other than satisfy your own hubris, commander. I don't care what you think of me or others like me but I'll throw my mantle and circlet into the ocean before I allow a massacre of the cities youth.
Rolled 13>>26568618Do this while looming
>>26568618>>26568638This is our basic point. I have no idea what this guy is doing or what his plan is, but it sounds like it's just... dumb. And looming is fun.
>>26568504"Commander Stafford! I will not sit idly by while you throw this fine city, and all the soldiers and citizens within it, under a speeding wagon!*If* you are so blinded by your petty hatred that you can no longer think clearly about the battle and this war, that you would willingly send your soldiers, who are CHILDREN, to their violent death in battle, then *perhaps* it is time for you to STAND DOWN."
>>26568504"Do you know what happens to the forces of leaders who bludgeon their way through strategy? They die, Stafford, because their commanders don't recognize a suicidal plan when they see it. Because they want all the glory to themselves or to their race. Are you that willing to kill hundreds of your own people just to make a point?"
>>26568638We really need to abuse our potential height more. We only need a third of our length on the ground to maintain balance
>>26568573>>26568578>>26568618>>26568675These are all very good.I wish they could all be used.
>>26568694Echo is alright at lumping our suggestions together
Rolled 10>>26568676Should be "force" instead of "race", but the point is very true.
>>26568707it makes us kind of longwinded for my liking.
Rolled 8>>26568751We've been long winded since around the 3rd or 4th thread when echo started putting together speech suggestions into big huge things.
>>26568751Eh, it gets the point across and they'll respond to the general idea. Just pretend we're only saying specific things instead of repeating ourselves all the time, it's what I do.
We are Ssen Patrick's army, we are the beastman infantry. We cannot fight, we cannot shoot, what bleeding use are we?And when we get to White Tree we'll hear the guardsmen say,'Hoch, hoch! Mein Gott, what a bloody rotten lot, are the beastman infantry'
>>26568542start with this. if he gives an evasive answer say " with a mixed force like this communication is almost a greater danger than the enemy, especially this close to battle. I do not want to watch the youth of white tree get massacred because we expected them to be somewhere else" if that dost work, then we try intimidating him.
Far, far from White Tree I long to be.Where Phoenix soldiers can't get at me.Dark are my barracks, cold are my feet.Waiting for ettins to send me to sleep.
So, our plan is to get his plan?I'm for it.
You stretch yourself up until your'e looming over the man, fangs bared. The other commanders all take a step back."Commander Stafford! I will not sit idly by while you throw this fine city, and all the soldiers and citizens within it, under a speeding wagon! I will not see this battle lost simply because you cannot do anything else other than satisfy your own hubris, commander. Do you know what happens to the forces of leaders who bludgeon their way through strategy? They die, Stafford, because their commanders don't recognize a suicidal plan when they see it. Because they want all the glory to themselves or to their force. Are you that willing to kill hundreds of your own people just to make a point?"I don't care what you think of me or others like me but I'll throw my mantle and circlet into the ocean before I allow a massacre of the cities youth."You snap."But, I'm being rash." You sneer. "Please, tell us your great plan."Stafford sneers at you and then looks at Julian. His eyes narrow and he looks at Billings.Billings looks at the other Commanders, who are trying to make it clear that they are NOT standing by Stafford.(cont)
>>26569122"Commander Stafford, the Paladins are the instruments of His Light and His Will. They wouldn't dare give us a plan or a path that would result in death for our most cherished, our most blessed." He says. "We will go as commanded by Lord Paladin Graves."Stafford shakes his head and looks at Julian. "When you train it to speak again, fix its breath, it reeks of death and dead animal."He storms off."Oh...I am NOT done with that fucker." Kincaid says. He takes a deep breath and raises an eyebrow at Julian.Julian shakes his head at Kincaid. "No."He sighs and trows up his hands. "I have to go check the fires and make sure they're ready." He walks off.Julian orders the other three commanders to follow him as they start setting up lines.Vivian's father comes up to you. He has a weary/bewildered look on his face. That's a look you've come to recognize of a man who 's realized that the only one who's suited for the job is himself...and that he's WAY over his head."I...umm..." He says. "I wish you luck, your ladyship. Also...do...are you required to be in the vanguard? I know a lot of the Blessed would draw much inspiration and strength to see you, and your occuli, aiding them." He licks his lips, nervous. "Word has spread at how they have never fallen in battle and have never allowed others under their shadow come to harm. I...uhhh...I can assure you that there would be many who would be very grateful and filled with cheer and spirit to know that the blessed are protected by the Paladin Serpent."You've heard worse bribes. But not many...although you've rarely heard one done for a decent reason like this.
Rolled 17>>26569163We're kinda needed in the Van, but I think Trica or Mage on the wall wouldn't be amiss
>>26569163"Honestly, I'm not sure I could be anywhere BUT in the thick of things, and still live with myself."
>>26569204Yep. You always keep the healer and the mage at the back.

>>26569163Your concern does you credit. However.I assure you that the Blessed are on my mind most of all. I am standing in the vanguard so that whatever is thrown our way will have to go through me to get to them. Rolled 18>>26569163"In Darkness is where His Light is needed most, thus there in Darkness I must stay. I don't think I could live with myself if I wasn't in the Van, but I'll see about having Peri and Mari up on the Wall."
>>26569163"Well, my healer, tricia, and mage, mage, are almost certainly going to be hanging back with them. Do you suppose that's enough?Because we all would like to play to our specialties in the hope of a smoother battle, and to be honest, I'm much more suited getting in close. "

Yeah, let's stick someone with the blessed. Maybe Lea, with tricia on a roving-duty.
>>26569478I feel like Lea might cause some friendly fire incidents
"Your concern does you credit. However.I assure you that the Blessed are on my mind most of all. "If it eases your mind, I can possibly arrange for one or more of my companions to be with them, if of course it is strategically viable. I was thinking for my healer to be with them."The man lets out a small breath of relief. "Yes, anything will help. Now, I know that all the Blessed need aid, and combat sends everyone everywhere, but could your healer friend, could she start and try to stay close to Second Blessing? Again, I know many who would be thankful, Second Blessing has some very new recruits, they'd need the help."Give a man an inch...Well, he is just trying to keep his daughter safe. >>26569688we lost some people when we faced Tragedy. We couldn't save them.
Rolled 7>>26569725Fairly sure that doesn't count for these purposes, but we might count it anyway out of guilt. But in terms of people we go into battle with, the closest we've come to losing someone is Lea against the Avatar of Ice.
>>26569638>>26569725There were the tragedy casualties, those two other vampire sisters who may or may not have been forced into it, that blinded guardsman, and that's all I can think of, other than the iffy ones like "All the people unable to get to the bell in the crafter city".
Rolled 7>>26569762We would have lost a bunch of people to the bell if not for that reroll.

"You want to do what you can, as much as you can...even up to knocking them up and tying them up in your basement." He smiles at you and then frowns and shakes his head. "Wait. No. That was horrible. I'm sorry. I'm woolgathering, there are things I need to do. Good bye." He hurries off.You go looking for the others, and you find Mage working on a very complex looking scroll. Lea is keeping watch. She holds up a finger for you to be quiet."He says it's for when we get our hands on the war idol." She says quietly. "Also, about that, are we waiting to claim it as a trophy after the battle, or are we going to try and get it during the fighting?"
>>26569874"From what I understand, whatever the idol is doing for these ettins is slow acting and insidious, which makes me unsure we can stop them mid battle with it. Also, it's a giant rock I think, I don't know how to steal one of those without a work crew."
if we grabbed it during the fighting would we be able to drive the ettins from the field?
>>26569874>even up to knocking them up and tying them up in your basementWhat the fuck?
>>26569874Well, if we get the chance we might want to claim it during the battle, but I would think it safer and better that we spread our poison gas around the idol and, wait for the battle to be won and then after the gas has been dispersed, take our prize.
>>26569962I think he meant 'out' not 'up'.

>>26570258>>26570297>arrest on the spotEh, I'm more of the mind of "send an officer to his house", but same thing.
>>26570274I was hoping to keep Peri on the walls anyways, keep an eye out for sappers and such.
>>26570297Well, not immediately. I'd suggest a generous beating while shouting "STOP RESISTING! STOP RESISTING!"
Rolled 5>>26570346Lets not be the police brutality lamia.
I just got back from dinner out. We're splitting the party. I hate it, but it's what kinda makes sense right now for the whole effort.
"From what I understand, whatever the idol is doing for these ettins is slow acting and insidious, which makes me unsure we can stop them mid battle with it. Also, it's a giant rock I think, I don't know how to steal one of those without a work crew."Maybe if it's small enough for peri to make off with. Otherwise, it's just too dangerous to go for." You say."Alright." She nods. "So where do you want me, Peri/Mari, and Mage to be?"
>>26570346>a generous beating while shouting "STOP RESISTING! STOP RESISTING!"Hey, that's Lea's shtick.
Rolled 4>>26570405Peri/Mari we told the other guy should be on the walls. Lea can be there too. Where should Mage be?
>>26570405Peri and Mari should be up on the wall, sharpshooting and keeping an eye out for if the enemy does anything funny. They're a smart couple, they'll get the message to me if something changes. I was going to let you go in the vanguard or with the blessed, they both can use the support. Mage, being mage, will be shooting the largest fireballs possible from the vanguard, hitting their vulnerable side.First time we've split up like this for a fight, I suppose war is quite different than our gallivanting about."
>>26570479er, quote that. dialogue.
>>26570405Maybe we could blow it up. We have any explosive runes or a spare barrel of blackpowder?
>>26570450Mage might be better with us as a "wind guy" when we use Cloudkill. Lea might not be best on the walls, but as a flanker She would do major damage.
>>26570405"Peri/Mari you can be on the wall, keep an eye out for anything like assassins or saboteurs of any sort and help out Avery. Mage you should stick with Kinkaid, better to keep pressure on the enemy and keep some good magical advice if we reach the idols.">>26570450I'm not sure about Lea, but I do want Mage to hang behind Kinkaid,
Actually i do have an idea for Lea, stick her with Toll so she can focus on archery.
>>26570508Kinkaid's gonna be in the vanguard. And I was originally thinking of putting Lea in the vanguard, but you guys are convincing me she would be more effective as a flanker.
>>26570532So you want her playing bouncer so toll can play sniper?Good dynamic, I suppose.
>>26570544I wouldn't put Mage in the very front lines, just a bit behind.>>26570549Exactly
So:Mage: In front but not the Van, (With the Blessed maybe?)Lea: With Toll and BallesPeri/Mari: With Avery on the wall doing tactics/rearguardTricia: With the BlessedYou: Vanguard. Is that good for everyone?
>>26570604Sounds good to me.
>>26570604I'd have Mage with the Blessed. I like the idea of keeping as many of our party with as many paladins or other members of the party as possible.
Rolled 8>>26570604I'm fine with this.Only worry is that we're splitting the party, but that's not really avoidable here.
>>26570657They are Occuli, it works out and their strengths are being well used
>>26570039I want to know what this is from, now...For... reasons.
So. Which major characters are we gonna lose?
>>26571007Could be anybody.
>>26571007No matter who dies, we lose.
>>26571031>>26571067I'm still wondering about those slaves from the north. I would have hated to deliver them straight to battle.
>>26571067>Kingfisher yucks it up
>>26571093I am 100% certain kingfisher is going to do something about this. That fucker.
Rolled 10>>26571093Kingfisher is more Chinese inspired than Japanese inspired, last I checked.
This is just going to go so poorly. There's not nearly enough fire, explosions, and poison.
>>26571138Who cares, they're from Not-Asia.
>>26571110Our great advantage right now is that we are doing something so absolutely retarded that Kingfisher will be hard-pressed to react to it. Kinda like how he had no idea that we would FLY in and out of the camp before anyone noticed.Eventually he's going to start making plans to account for us taking wildly insane actions. He'll be wrong as often as he is right, but he'll start thinking "She might possibly do that" instead of "She would never do that."
>>26571208I wish at some point he would accept peace talks. Too bad we gotta force it.
>>26571245It's not in his nature to negotiate from a position of equality.
>>26571245It's funny because we'd pretty much help build his city.
>>26571281>>26571320I'm already thinking about how we're going to deal with all the phoenicians to the south and make them a non-hostile nation.
>>26571345Care to share those ideas?
>>26571359no, I don't have many. I've no idea how many noncombatants and civilians there are, but I'm fairly certain it's going to include a lot of communism, given the high expected population of human ex-slaves. Ettins are still a variable. I know nothing about them.
>>26571376>communismSee, my idea was Kingfisher's city would be like Hong Kong, i.e. extremely lax economic regulations which bring a large amount of foreign investment.
>>26571412It's really up in the air depending on how well Ryan's stuff takes. And the exact nature of it. And whether or not we'll be able to come up with a neutral freedom-book that winds them down from book-device use.
>>26571376I figure when we take it over we don't make to many changes, and what we do change we keep to stuff that the masses will like. use economic incentives to encourage allot of contact with other cities and just let the culture change over a generation or two.
So, to avoid idle dread over the battle, I suppose we can think of things we can do during the battle. Just stabbing-and-morningstarring is probably not the optimum way to go.
>>26571589We're gonna be fighting Ettin and morningstarring.I mean really, what else can we do? We're a figure of inspiration, we're supposed to be in the thick of the fighting doing things which look inspiring. I guess we could try to hamstring a few Ettin, but when we have enough reach to go straight for the throat, I don't see that much point.
>>26571589I was thinking we could use our venom, yes its horrible but when your fighting 100 giants I think we can afford to use a distasteful means of combat.
>>26571642>>26571589I'm kinda hoping it'll be like that run we did in Stone Hall, back when it was sacked by ghouls. That was a really interesting "fight" sequence, rather than the typical "you encounter a large amount of enemies who all gang up on you" bullshit.
>>26571664This is one of those times where even I'd be completely okay with it. Even if it doesn't really work on the Ettins, might as well thin out the humans if we can.
>>26571680Acid in the eyes gets damn near everyone
>>26571664>>26571672that might be nice, a series of problems instead of just straight battle roll. And I'm all for some poison use here, when it's opporotune. Basically a 1 hit kill on things it works on.
>>26571694I'm all for using the gas as long as Mage puts up an air barrier between us and the rest of our forces. Choke the whole enemy army. While we're at it, let's see if there are any lamias from the UFK detachment.
>>26571735almost certainly not, but worth looking into.I think we're even more rare than the harpies. And we aren't repopulating like they are.
>>26571281>It's not in his nature to negotiate from a position of equality. He cannot conceive that you would be willing to help the Phoenix Colony gain independence, and then just let them be. He believes that people view the world in the same way he does, or how he imagines that they do.- - -You give out a few orders, make sure that your people are where they can help the most, send off a few bird mesages, and do a headache inducing whisperflute conversation with Jesse-May.Then the Fell Weed fires are lit.The scheduled attack was going to happen at dawn, a good luck sign for the Phoenix (and His Light if you ask Lea.) For the fires to have any effect, you had to light them in the middle of the afternoon. Ugh, you despise that smell. True, you regrow teeth swiftly, and whenever you need to, but the principle is the same...kinda...sorta...eh fuck the Commander and his species rhetoric anyway. You have a war to fight.Julian comes up besides you on the battlefield as you both watch the sun set. "These have been an eventful year or two, haven't they?" He chuckles as he readies his greatsword. "Liam probably would be twisting both our ears, all things said and done. Wouldn't he?"
Rolled 13>>26571888"Probably. Although I like to think he'd be proud of me. Heh, did you know I went out to distract myself from his death?"

I wonder what we do with our old teeth. Probably just toss 'em out.
>>26571932I vote for this one.
>>26572169I do sort of like that one. Mostly because of the telling him why we left part. When we try to distract ourselves, by golly we're distracted.
>>26571932If we go for one, this is my choice
>>26572188I bet 1269 Internets and 34 Chanboards tha>>26571932Also recieves my vote. If we have a navel, now's the time to contemplate it.

>>26572227I like to imagine... no navel. But yes, I hope for some rain, it would completely ruin/make better our lightning troopers.
Rolled 19>>26572284Well, I'm no biologist, but seeing as we lay eggs, I'm pretty sure we shouldn't have a navel.
"Probably, he got all worried when I went after boar, a war would just make his hair fall out. I like to think he'd be proud of me, though. We've done a lot for the peoples of our fair nation. "Still, I do wish Dad was here. Heh, did you know I went out to distract myself from his death?""Heh, well I hope you succeeded a little." Julian says."In my dreams he keeps telling me 'this isn't the hard part' over and over." You say."He used to say that." Julian says. "Never really understood what he meant by that, we had certainly seen enough difficulty. Every time that we seemed to be heading into death itself, he'd always say that 'This wasn't the hard part.' I thought for a moment that he thought that the Hard Part would be raising you...or any child. But no, he just smiled and said that it was difficult, but not the hard part."You hear the roar and scream and you see the horde. They really are blue. You suppose that in a certain bright desert light you could call it a very pale grey, but in the light of dusk, they're pretty clearly blue."Don't die, little girl." Julian says. "I don't want Liam kicking my ass."
>>26572301Considering the fact that we're reptiles we should have any...Oh fuck it, let's not start.
>>26572307"Good luck Julian. Why are they blue?"
>>26572301>>26572311As i recall, we're like tiger and nurse sharks. We can just contemplate our lack of navel then.>>26572307"Same for you Uncle"*raise Beacon and give a wary cry*
>>26572362I am going to second this.
Rolled 16>>26572307"Same to you Uncle!" Ready Beacon and start on the cloudkill.
>>26572307Ettins aren't blue...I think it's our magic vision.
>>26572406hold up on the cloud kill for a moment, want to save it for a bit when we can be sure of having mage around to redirect it, as he is rather behind us in formation
>>26572434>>26572406yeah, no cloudkill yet, we're still near humans.
>>26572430Magic is not-purple, though.
>>26572307Here it comes.
>>26572364speaking of our biology, I figured out why we have spines and why they're arranged outwards so they can't help with constriction. They're so we can't get eaten by giant predators. Just coil up in a spike ball.
>>26572505They let us cut up whatever we're constricting, as well as deliver venom. Helps with more unruly prey i suppose
>>26572307Alright, this is how the war works. As of now, the Phoenix Empire forces are at a score of 500.You have 300, now. With 200 waiting in the flank.Things are pretty even as they are right now. Naturally, that's going to change when things go to hell. You'll get three options every turn. Each option will cause a roll, and that roll will determine how much each side has their numbers drop...among other things. As of now, once the PE army (or you) reaches half strength, the flank will attack. That's the plan.
>Oncoming horde of ettins>Contemplate our biologyLamia Brain strikes again!
Rolled 19>>26572615Okay, do we get any options or is it straight dice rollings?
>>26572615ALRIGHT HERE WE GO>>26572617It's just nerves.
>>26572615Any chance of lamia brain forth options?
>>26572659I bet so, but we'll probably not have a unified backing of a good idea to produce one.>>26572617>>26572640We've enjoyed contemplating how we work for a long while. I look forward to lamia doctors and scientists. Also, we need to borrow julian's book from tricia and see if they've got a good organ anatomy of a dead lamia. Because who would have that other than monster hunters?
>>26572713Talk with another Lamia character for a long period should be fun.
>>26572713This is one of the generally acceptable images for lamia biology. Prob some deviations in Echo's canon but this'll give ya the basic idea
Rolled 6>>26572615>>26572638nvm, I missed the part about 3 options each turn
>>26572615So when our strength = 150 or theirs = 250, the flank goes.DS(us)=150DS(them)=250150/250=15/25=3/5We need to kill more than 5 points of troops and lose less than 3 on average every turn, or multiples thereof, to be winning. This assumes that when the flank occurs the greater strength army will win. It's likely more complicated than that.
There's only one thing about Lamia biology we can all come to consensus on.
>>26572783Sorry, I'm a snake ass man.
>>26572798We don't got an ass
>>26572810We have Isen.
Rolled 11>>26572798I don't think snakes have those.
>>26572829But seriously though I'm nervous as hell about this battle, we're going to lose a lot of dudes. Giants and by extension ettins are NOT something you can fuck around with. I think the blue means they're angry, like hulk rules.
Oh and you'll be shooting for 14+ every time.>>26572615The ettin are charging...but they're not headed towards the sinkholes and ankle breaks. You miscalculated where to set up the damn traps.1) Hold position and engage them anyway, you've got the forces all dug in properly here. 10/5 Success, 5/5 failure. (2 crits make it a 0 losses, depending on the side)2)Try to lure the bastards over to the trapped area by breaking rank. Risky, but the chaos you'll cause will be very much worth it. 15/5 success, 5/10 failure.3) Charge the fuckers. Risky as hell, but you'll get full control of the terrain if you're the ones directing the charge. 20/5 success. 5/20 failure.(So if you chose option B and succeeded, you'd be at 295, and the PE would be at 485)
Rolled 5>>26572905Do we vote on an action then roll, or do we vote with a roll and the winning one gets the first 3 in the ones voting for it?3
>>26572905I'd prefer to lure them over, I think, but I am unsure of what breaking ranks means in this instance.I am going to assume the lure option is a faux charge to draw them in/get their attention, then fleeing back to the fortified lines. Which I am going for, option B.
Rolled 10>>26572905I'm thinking of holding position
>>26572905I am going to vote for option 2. We have gotten this far by risking our neck, why not see how far that holds.
>>265729052 sounds like the best bet. Its not terrible if we fail (Remember that failure is more likely than success if we need 14+)option 3 just sounds terrible
>>26572905A.We hold now and besides this is the first wave. They might just try to flank us.Roll now or after choice decided, Echo?
>>26572934>Do we vote on an action then roll, or do we vote with a roll and the winning one gets the first 3 in the ones voting for it?Vote on action, roll for action, best of first three.
>>26572934Probably standard pick a choice, then roll. At least I hope, otherwise you just charged twenty men to their deaths.>>26572936Attack and feign retreat sounds like a good idea. Going for Option 2/B.
>>26572905I'm going to vote be a lure. To make it more effective grab a branch of the smelly junk if its nearby and wave it in their faces.
Rolled 6>>26572905Oh, this is pretty risky no matter what.I guess 2.
>>26572963Honestly, a charge against giants just has so many things that could go poorly, much better if at all possible to have them come to you.But I already voted.
i vote we go with option 2. its almost as good reward as option 3 and much lessrisk
>>26572905The first mistake anyone with a hardened salient makes is to assume it's impregnable and dig in without thought or care to harassment. I vote 2 or 3. We can risk early on, to make the lead. If we lose, we can still retreat and hold out.Any plan has a 6/20=30% success rate. Be wary, questers!
>>26572970Best of first 3 rolls or first three rolls for the winning vote?
>>26572982>>26572978>>26572956>>26572934With the way these rolls are turning out we're probably going to fail horribly.
Rolled 17>>26572970Okay, so none of the rolls so far count? In that case I'll vote for 3.
Rolled 9>>26573004Yeah. It's not looking good.
Rolled 20>>26572905Option 2. Lets lure the overgrown fuckers.
>>26573004People do seem rather confused about the rolling mechanics
huh the vote\dice mechanics are still a bit unclear.
Rolled 18>>26573025I think it's that "We vote, then echo calls for a roll" sort of thing.
>>26573023Now we're talkin!
>>26573043I hope so
>>26573043Well, its how we've always rolled before. See no real reason to change it but you never know. This is a new way of doing battle after all.
>>26573024You dash to the side and a few of the Mixed and Regulars follow you. Julian keeps position but understands what you're trying to do.You make a LOT of noise and 'charge' forward. You hope that enough ettin take the bait.Roll 1d20
>>26573043likely, but I'm sad about >>26573023 then.
>>26573056Everyone stop rolling.

>>26573077Redaeth you son of a fuck.
Rolled 10>>26573066Oh son of a bitch.
Do we still have a reroll?
>>26573077oh my fucking god. Redeath it's back. You were doing so well. Your rollitis was in remissions ffs.
My sole consolation is that I rolled highest.
>>26573111... maybe? Also I think our dice need to be changed. 6 rolls and nothing over 10
Rolled 16>>26573066Let's GO!
>>26573111not here not now. there will be a time when it's utterly necessary. We'll know when the time comes.

>>26573077Do we have a reroll? We NEED to reroll.
Welp. We're gonna all die.Phoenix empire wins.
>>26573164Yes. The dice were clearly off before Echo had the roll.
>>26573166GOOD.Who am I kidding. It'll never happen.
>>26573085Shit, not enough ettin took the bait, and now Julian's forces are getting swamped. You get a few, but just not enough.Roll 1d10This is for something later.

Rolled 5>>26573195damnit dangit damnit damnit this aint working at all. We should go pincer those forces on julian
>>26573195Hellfire and damnation, I was hoping we had a reroll.

our dice are really rolling low tonightlooks like we have an... interesting battle ahead
>now we're barely getting above 5KINGFISHER NO WE WANT TO HELP YOU BUILD YOUR CITY STOP DOING THIS PLEASE
Rolled 10>>26573241On d10s
>>26573210Fuck! Julian's getting swamped! Kincaid's group is also getting attacked heavily. They need backup. But if you break position now, the ettin WILL slam into a squad of Blessed!1) Hold Position. 10PE/Roll For Julian(5PE/Special)/Roll for Kincaid(5PE/Special)2) Help Kincaid. 15PE/Roll for Julian(5PE/Special)/1st Blessing is now under attack3) Help Julian. 15PE/Roll for Kincaid (5PE/Special)/1st Blessing is now under attack

>>26573330I vote 1. If it comes to it we can reroll.Speaking of, did I earn a reroll for drawing a map of the continent, Echo?
>>26573330Hold Position. HOLD YOUR GROUND!
>>26573330I am leaning towards helping the newbies. Kinklaid is basically heavy artillery incarnate, and julian is a scary mofo. The blessed are just kids and their gadgets.
>>265733301) Hold position. Julian and Kincaid are serious business.
>>26573330Hold position and pray like a motherfucker.
I really hope those two are as ballin' as we think they are.
>>26573330Hold position and fuckin pray
>>26573330Uncle Julian is a seasoned Veteran. Kincaid is a motherfucking Crater Machine. Hold position.
>>26573428Yeah, but we're still at the mercy of the dice.
>>26573439The current pattern suggests this is the end of lamia quest...
>>26573439Yeah what else is new?
Rolled 6>>26573509LIES. We've worked miracles. We've killed GODS. We can put the smackdown on a few two-headed brainwashed hooligans! LET'S DO THIS!

>>26573554FALLING? We witnessed all of our friends being mindcontrolled, the prior Robin Goodfellow's HORRIBLE death and effective eternal damnation, and were exposed directly to the mind raping effects of the Dragon Who Was Shadows, the Dark Man, and the Unholy Choir. A mere crippling military defeat is NOTHING to all that.
>>26573623You'd think that dude would have some sort of bonuses for whatever he is doin.
>>26573623>deckyH stavesoh boy here we go
>>26573624Yeah, but this time we've ordered kids to be sent into the grinder. If we fail to save White Tree, that isn't just going to be another "you're gonna carry that weight," that's going to be mental disorder that leads to alignment change.Which is what Kingfisher intends to do before he has us killed.
Rolled 17, 15 = 32>>26573659I hope he has at least a +3
>>26573678>>26573659That'd be the bonus if he was doing something normal-sized. Which he isn't. Pic related, hopefully.
>>26573677Oh woopidy dee, we ordered Child Soldiers to stand behind us as we charged into battle, supported by a massive army, against another massive army that was going to attack anyway. Still nothing compared to letting Robin Goodfellow and his merry band be Soul Bound to Citadel.
>>2657367812 is the req to hit for allies using magic, the roll before gave them a +1 so we might suceed
>>26573623You wish that you knew Kincaid better than what little you did of the elf. Kincaid orders his battalion to retreat, and the man's rune gauntlets started to glow. The explosion was a mass of light, and deafening sound. Massive amounts of dust and dirt are blown up into the air, along with trees, water vapor, and more than a little vaporized blood and flesh. The ettins took a certainly nasty hit with that, that's for clear. As for Kincaid... Well...you never know until the dust settles?10 + 5 + 11= 26Your losses are 5, and Kincaid is now MIA
Rolled 15, 3 = 18>>26573775Shit, I think we lost Kincaid

>>26573775Kinkaid I swear to god if you exploded yourself and every damn enemy around you I am going to beat you up once I die and get into the light
>>26573775Well, he died as he lived.
>>26573826Eh, we can just ask The Only Not-A-Jackass God to kick him in the balls when he sees Kincaid.
>>26573836I believe NOTHING until I see a body or part of one.
>>26573844we just don't know how he's a jackass yet
>>26573807Now's not the time for thinking, but for killing. Less wasted thought. Think like a general. Any clever ideas we can implement mid-battle could mean everything. Let's get some Leviathan brain magic going. What of the Brillitite bullet?Better yet, let's attack in a brutal flurry of Beacon strikes to power it up swiftly and spam the AOE buff. (Morningstar, is it?) Having an army behind us makes that move fucking CLUTCH.
>>26573857>turns out it was just a teleportation spell>he's actually in space summoning a meteor
Rolled 10I am off to sleep. Please don't lose there war while I'm away.
>>26573867morningstar doesn't work on those who aren't... holy units? It works on us and our occuli.I wonder if the blessed are really blessed.
>>26573928Welp we'll find out.
Rolled 12Most likely it grows attuned to those who fight and draw blood for us. Beacon is a hungry blade.
>>26573775Alright, the ettin and the slaves are at a bit of a disadvantage in this massive dust/fog of war cloud that Kincaid created. You're at a less of a handicap, thanks to your own personal eye guards, and a few UFK and WT gadgets. But it's still a bit of a pain.1)Back out of the cloud with Julian slowly and regroup the defensive lines. 20/10, 10/10.2)Stay in the cloud, and hold these fuckers in this hell. Julian and his people will have to be on their own. 25/5+Roll For Julian, 10/10+Roll For Julian.3)Order a charge of the remaining Mixed and Regulars into the melee. 30/10+Roll For Julian, 10/20+Roll for Julian

>>26573970>>26573974>>26573979You lost Kincaid, you're not losing your Uncle. You fight yourself out as best you can. Beacon is slowly starting to glow and vibrate. You see Julian and you both head for fresher air.Roll 1d20
Rolled 7>>265739522) Stay in and try to make the most of the dust.

Let's use the damn reroll. It's a RESOURCE, we HAVE it. It does no good to us moldering in Quasispace because we MIGHT need it in future. We DO need it NOW.
Rolled 13>>26574051Echo, did I earn a reroll for making a map of the continent?Please...?

I'm gettin really fucking sick of tonight's dice.
>>26574108WHEN? WHEN DO WE USE IT? AN ARMY IS CHARGING US. WHEN THE FUCK DO WE USE IT, CITADEL!?
our dice are NOT happy with us tonight.
>>26574127You're responding to a nebulous fear of failure. We use it in the face of otherwise -certain- death, which this is not. Stiff upper lip, ma nigga.
this IS certain death, Kincaid sacrificed himself. Don't you think Julian isn't going to do the same?
>>26574145LITERAL ARMY CHARGING US. BIG. HUGE. LARGE FORCE.
>>26574158Kincaid might still be alive, he's only MIA right now.
>>26574127See, /tg/ has this issue all the time. They're too afraid of accidentally using it too early that they'll never use it until it's too late.Every campaign, every quest. Every time.
>>26574168We've been tits-deep in worse. At least these things can't rape minds or collectively transcend the mortal coil to become an artificial flesh-shaping god.
>>26574180MIA is a euphemism for "he's dead, jim"
note: this issue is pointless since I am pretty sure we've no rerolls left, our last one was that lea picture which was used fighting icegodman. The bell.
>>26574195>>26574201Listen, you fools! It's not the last one in the world. WE CAN GET MORE. We just need to make some more fanart or something.
>>26574195Oh I'm not afraid of using it early, I'm afraid of using it when we don't know what it's for. We ought to save it for a roll we are actually aware of, otherwise it is likely a waste of resources. Just being tactical, here.
>>26574210No. That would be KIA.MIA is "we have no clue where this assfuck is."Fucking hell guys. A few bad rolls and you're all panicking.
I wish we had some drawfags interested in this quest. All the quest fans that actually drew seem to have vanished though sadly.
>>26574247Nearly every roll that has counted has been single digits.
Didn't this guy roll a 15>>26574055why are people panicking
Probability does not favor us this night. Perhaps we should turn in early? These rolls are nearing Sir Sigismund the Unlucky levels.
>>26574280Someone also rolled a 1, which is a critfail
>>26574247lets just put it this way, we are LOSING this battle so far.>>26574280it didn't count. Only the first three and nat 1s cancel out the highest roll
Rolled 12>>26574280nat 1 cancels highest roll in normal play. Echo might not be doing that here, but he might be. We don't know until he responds.
>>26574280Critical failures overrule the highest roll, so we go with second highest. Which is a seven, assuming we don't just go straight for "you forget how to breathe, fucknuts"
>>26574247Thank you. Trust your comrades. Keep a cool head, get shit done.
>>26574247yep. Things are still going OK. nothing is super critical yet. We've just had a bad start.
Rolled 12>>26574330Unless Echo is ignoring the 1 cancels highest, and is just straight keeping the highest, the statistics are very much against us winning the battle.
>>26574278Probability is a motherfucker. And all the panic in the world won't affect the rolls we make. Chill the fuck out.
>>26574330Heh so, do you guys want to use the map reroll? It's up to you, but I'll take the next three
>>26574330Two critfails is NOT a "bad" start. It's a disastrous start.
>>26574369honestly I wanted to use it for kincaid... but for saving Julian I vote yes to the reroll.
>>26574369First a question, does the 1 cancel the highest for the battle?
>>26574369Depends... is this a character death moment or not?If not then no. I'm just worried that Julian will die.
>>26574369Not quite yet is my vote. I'm still pretty sure kinkaid's alive.
>>26574389For the record, Julian's fine, this just makes it from a 10/10 to a 20/10.
>>26574413Fuck that then.
>>26574369No. It's not that bad yet.
>>26574413We wanted to use it to save kincaid. Why didn't you let us?
>>26574435Probably because he took his own life.If he is dead, anyway.
I'm honestly not convinced Kincaid is dead yet.One or two bad rolls to kill off a paladin when we couldn't do anything seems a bit much
>>26574369I refuse to vote because I'm better at dialogue and strategic planning. I'm terrible at managing dailies and game mechanics.
if this isn't going to cost us julian then I'll bend to the will of the board... still all these nat 1s are adding up bleh.
>>26574413We can handle some casualties. Rule one about war is that soldiers die. Rule two is that nothing can change rule one.But when it seems one of our own is in danger of dying, we step in.
I must bed now, fellow questers. May we not die.
Look, all these nat 1's at the stzrt mean that our rolls in the future will HAVE to be good!Right?RIGHT!?
>>26574499thats called gambler's fallacy anon... if we get a 1 it doesn't mean we're garunteed a 20 in the near future.
>>26574520That only works with dice that aren't shitty and deliberately spiteful.
>>26574552/tg/ are notorious for rolling low. Thats why people use the best of three heh.
Let's think of it this way: At least we're not stricken with pneumonia. That shit kills snakes dead.
>>26574420Alright, now...remember that 19?It's a bloody slog, you give as good as you get, but you get a LOT. Small cuts and wounds everywhere, and you think all in all you've maybe dropped 5 ettin, with help, and who know how many servants...ugh.This is bad. The line's been forced back enough that the Blessed are going to come into combat now, there's noth...wait...that's not ettin roars. They move with no grace, their weapons have no style, and they are male or female, pretty uniformly ugly...but that big group of orcs charging at the ettin, with Garkat at the front, have to be one of the most beautiful things you've ever seen in your lives. Now you just have to decide what to DO with them.+50 Points to you.1) Send the orcs to smash into the Ettin right fucking now. 20/5 or 20/102) Order for the orcs to sweep around and attack the ettin from the rear, it's not a proper pincer move, as your numbers are too few, but it'll scramble the bastards if done right. The down side is that you'll have to break off from Julian's group to hold them...but that's only bad if this plan doesn't work. S:40/5, F:30/10+Roll for Julian3)The riskiest move of them all, fall back and regroup...with the Blessed. S:50/10, F:50/20. (Blessed casualties will begin) 4)Send the Orcs to back up the Blessed. You and Julian can handle the machine...hopefully. S:10/5 F:5/5, Blessed get 1 more round of security.
>>26574508>>26574520Actually it's not Gambler's Fallacy, it's Dice Gods Cruelty.Which states that "You will roll nat 1's when it is most damaging/embarrassing/disadvantageous to do so, and rolling several nat 1's increases the chances of more nat 1's"
>>265746031 sounds the best, but 2 has the best roll outcomes. So 1 or 2 are my votes, either or.
>>26574603Leaning towards #2. That 40/5 with no Blessed casualties seems tasty.
>>265746031) Never get in the way of the Orcs' style. They're all bloody fury and momentum. We have them smash into the Ettin and embroil the two forces in their age-old tribal feud then our forces sweep in from behind.
>>26574603If you can get the Orcs to go along with it, go with 2.
>>26574603I want to hurt them as much as I can without getting the Blessed involved.Man. I want to do number 2, but if we fuck it up...
>>26574603Number 2 and lets pop a morning star as we've gotten at least 5 hits in
>>26574603Put me down for a numbah 2, extra large, with a side of dead ettins
2) Order for the orcs to sweep around and attack the ettin from the rear, it's not a proper pincer move, as your numbers are too few, but it'll scramble the bastards if done right. The down side is that you'll have to break off from Julian's group to hold them...but that's only bad if this plan doesn't work. S:40/5, F:30/10+Roll for Julian
Least we got a helmet and a shield. Imagine how much more dead we would be without that. Also I'm really, really hoping I hear some explosions from kinkaid soon. Mage was over there.
>>26574603The majority is looking like 2, but I think a better strategy would be a more direct one.1.
>>26574966Yeah honestly the Orcs' strength would be diminished if we tried to have them be delicate, I think. Plus if they strike -NOW- their entrance is far more sudden and damaging.
>>26574669>>26574674>>26574694(Mage is with the Blessed)You break off from Julian and gesture to Garkat and hope he gets the signal.Roll 1d20
>>26575017STOP ROLLING! NOW! STOP!
>>26575017Well there's a sucess
>>26575032>>26575031I need 1 more to confirm it.
Rolled 18>>26575012you heard him, he needs 1 more.ONE more!
Has this QM ever let anything horrible happen to you guys and made you stick with it?I mean besides that poison arrow thing
>>26575065yeah, we lost our stealth backup team to tragedy's hostage scenario.
>>26575065Tricia becoming a sterile bag of insects comes to mind. And one way or another we are getting that Dragonfly, even if we have to scam Citadel to do it.
>>26575065We really didnt stick with that either if you think about it. I mean what damage it did to us that was permanent was erased by Granny as soon as we met her.
>>26575065Oh, and this isn't really a terrible thing that HAPPENED to us, but donovan was instructed to go into the woods, track us, and kill us. We haven't seen him ever again since. For all we know, there's still a zombie elf just... waiting. watching. Just out of sight.
>>26575065The poison arrow thing wasn't that bad. Now, getting Robin and his crew perma-killed, and what we accidentally did to Tricia on the other hand...and Paladin Odette...
>>26575065TBH I wanted the harm from the poison to be permanent. Aesthetics are meaningless but scars as a reminder of the lengths we go to to do the right thing are pretty kickass.
>>26575145What was Donovan's deal anyway? Was he Comedy's son or something?
>>26575065There was that time all our orc friends exploded. That time Robin and his crew exploded. That time we fucked up and got everyone in Citadel trapped in Hell forever. That time the Bitch Queen Mab betrayed us and caused White Tree to become a bunch of rebel scumbags. That time HIS became a huge bitch.
>>26575161I think Odette was our first big fuckup.
>>26575183Yeah, I think so. We never quite found out since we killed through the end-plot way faster than we meant to.
>>26575176>>26575161we've still got a little scarring., on the wrist, entry wound, and shoulder. And yellowed eyes. But yeah, the damage is almost entirely gone.
>>26575187>trapped in hell foreverno man we'll totally get them out. We promised that guy a divorce. We always follow through on our promises.Which means we can't lose here, right?
>>26575246>come back>guy has worked out his problems with his wife thanks to Citadel>it isn't a complete bastard
>>26575246>Shounen logic detected>character death incoming
>>26575261>Citadel>Not a complete bastard>0 AC (After Citadel)I sure hope you guys don't feel this.
>>26575261Citadel doesn't fix problem's, it just makes them go away. When Citadel goes they'll be back.
>>26575017Garkat nods and the orcs sweep along the battlefield and you and Julian hold the ettin's attention.Again, you rue the fact that you just can't see the faces of the soldiers or the ettins in the rear when the orc squad hits them like a pile of squat, heavily muscled, always grumpy, bricks. You HEAR it though, and the sounds are SO very sweet. And Beacon is shining and ready. Yes, yes, yes!Wait...what? OH NO!You don't know why you looked, maybe it was because she is part of your horde, or that Beacon was trying to show you the truth as well...whatever it is you looked and saw way back, along the wall...Fucking Stafford and a few of his Regulars are trying to enact a 'battlefield accident' with Avery. Thankfully Avery and Peri/Mari are fighting them. There's just a couple, but Stafford looked like he'd been in more than a few dozen fights. Odds are okay for them...but...still...Well...you could use the Morning Star (50) or you can shoot an Enlightenment Beam at the group, you don't even need to hit, just get people to LOOK and see what's going on at that end of the battlefield. It'll ruin Stafford and his plans forever, and guarantee no blowback. Plus people will stop Stafford and help Peri and Avery. Also 10/5 from regular fighting. But you'll lose your shot with Morningstar for now. The next time it's ready, odds are that the Blessed will be fighting before the flank can pull them out.
>>26575343Enlighten on Stafford
>>26575343gawdDAMNIT STAFFORD YOU PIECE OF LOUSY SHITIf we morningstar, it should boost avery and peri/meri without boosting Stafford. Think a sure-hit will be enough for peri to put the ice on Stafford?
>>26575343I'm really tempted to do that."And lo, the Light shone forth, and all saw that he was being a dick."Let's do it. We got a good hit in, we can probably wait till next time.
>>26575392I'd prefer to enlighten Stafford, Stafford is ruined either way and the direct look of Enlighten would help better
>>26575343Whatever option fucks Stafford over the hardest. We just set up an awesome sweep, I'm NOT having any fighting in our backfield.
>>26575343Hey Stafford.Don't touch my stuff.Enlighten his dumb ass.
>>26575343I swear, it's always something.Smoke the Mother, let him be enlightened.
>>26575343We're already in a good positionno need to be greedy with buffingWe really can't let this guy have his way
>>26575402I kinda want to do this. We need more humor
Hopefully this won't hurt morale too bad. Seeing their own go traitor can't be good for it.Hopefully us glowing and shooting laser beams makes up for it.
>>26575465It might even raise morale.Ssen sees corruption in her midst and purifies it with the Light forged weapon Beacon.
We shall enlighten them.
>>26575465Good thing our god has a light motif.Should be a done deal
>>26575343Trust in our guys. I trust Avery and Peri/Mari to win. Enlightenment.
>>26575392If that works, I'd be for it. Boosting lots of people seems a better use.
>>26575465I don't think it will hurt morale. The White Tree troops will see THE FUCKING LIGHT is watching over them. Not just watching, but sticking it;s finger in and saying HEY LOOK THIS GUYS BEING A NOT COOL FAGGOT
>>26575483Morningstar only works on our group. Enlightenment has better potential of morale boosting
>>26575343Morningstar. We win the battle. Besides it may aid Avery.
>>26575507And our group starts shining with holy light if we use Morningstar. That's not good for morale... how? Also, it lets our doods be better at stuff for a bit.Enlightenment is a waste here.
>>26575514>>26575507Besides, it's not a guaranteed win. We'd kill more Ettin, but probably only twenty or so. No, we need to show the troops that the Light itself is coming down on Stafford for being a traitorous fuckhead.
>>26575543Only 5 more hits till another go. Enlightenment gives the idea that the Light can snipe
>>26575552Also, it gets the obstructive asshole out of the way. The guy's tried to shut us down once and is actively trying to kill our party. Do you want to let him get away with that?
>>26575552And like I said, having the paladin and her crew GLOWING WITH AN AWESOME POWER accomplishes the theatrical goal while also having a more useful effect on the battlefield. It'd still look like a miracle.
>>26575598We can do morningstar later, obtrusive asshole needs to be dropped with the light
>>26575622Yeah. Morningstar is for the finale.
>>26575570>the Light can snipe360 noscope Lightshot?
>>26575622Using Enlightenment here is the classic trap of feeling like we've got to do everything everywhere all the time. We don't. A lighted-up Peri/Mari can take this jackass perfectly fine, and it spreads the buffs around in the process. It gets the same job done and then some if we could just get over thinking we're the only ones here who can do shit.
>>26575384>>26575402>>26575427You swear and point Beacon at Stafford's general area and fire.Enough people turn to look to see Stafford and a few of the Regulars actually attacking a Paladin and an occuli. The poems and stories of this bit get a little flowery at this part. They SAY that you blasted him to ash in His Light's sight, or that you blew a hole through his chest and vaporized his wicked heart.Truth is you just winged the bastard, caused a lot of massive burns on his arm and caused him to lose his sword. Peri was the one who actually gutted him, and Avery smashed his head into a pulp with his hammer. Less poetry and more utilitarian gore, but...eh...it'll do.You see Mixed and Blesseds coming to their aide as well, so you don't have to worry about the rest of Stafford's flunkies.Back to keeping your own ass alive.Alright, you're going to have to make a call. If you hold the battle lines here, or let them fall back a bit. The orcs are helping from the rear, so they're slowing down the advance, but...1) Fall back and regroup the lines. You'll have more people BUT the Blessed will be in combat. 30/5, 30/10 2) Hold the line here, but spread out a bit, you'll detach from Julian's squad again though. 30/5, 30/5+Roll For Julian3) Call the Flank early. +200. No PE, but the Blessed get pushed back.4) Flare signal for Mage and Tricia to leave the Blessed and bring up their own squads of Mixed into the fray. A decent move, but it means a lot more of the regulars will be put into the grinder as you wait for the backup. 30/10, 30/15You can now signal the Spell-Shooters whenever you want. They're worth 20 PE now and that number will go up the further you hold off.
>>26575684Yes, but people will SEE him being a backstabber before he goes down. Right now everyone is looking at the fight. Otherwise Mari/Peri kills him and then has to explain why she stabbed the commander to death.
2) Hold the line here, but spread out a bit, you'll detach from Julian's squad again though. 30/5, 30/5+Roll For Julian
>>26575703Can we get a rough count, for those of us who are running low on coffee?
>>265757034. Gotta move that gear up. Spell-Shooters just fire at will. Hit anyone you can hit.
>>26575703This is a battle of attrition. The longer we can hold them without getting the other units involved, the better. Let's hold the line for now, and then send in fresh units.
>>26575703Question: Are the blessed firing?I don't want a bunch of soldiers doing nothing, I expect them to be firing while we hold the line away from them.
i think we should hold off the spell shooters for a more decisive blow
>They're worth 20 PE now and that number will go up the further you hold off.I'm confused as to what this means.>>26575703HOLD THE LINE!
>>26575773It would be a good idea to hold off on the Shooters until we do fall back, that way we can inflict casualties while retreating.
>>26575804The old Parthenon Shot, probably a good idea.
>>26575738>>26575737>>26575719You nod at Julian and he nods back and you spread out the line and start to fight. The ettin and the phoenix will get to the Blessed by way of a lot of blood.Roll 1d20
>>26575793>>26575749It means the spell shooters are our wave motion gun. The longer we hold off, the more PE troops they vaporize in the instant we -do- call them in. So we could wait till the PE is down to like ~80 and wipe them in an instant.
>>26575793It means that they'll add 20 more PE casualties if we use them now, and the longer we hold off on using them the more casualties they'll cause.Basically, they're a force multiplier.>>26575735Kind of a big deal. Makes the difference in my mind between 1 and 2.
>>26575793Basically, they'll do more damage the more we hold off on using them.

>>26576426"You see Kincaid and Graves in a most compromising position with Kingfisher and an Ettin. Ewwwwww."
>>26576386Just an observation, we still need to kill about 100 before the flanks are scheduled to come in, and our spellshooters should now be good for 30. Thanks to the Orcs, we are now 10 above our starting point.
>>26576393The slaves are freaking out...and not because of you! You think it's weird that they're still fighting, but you spot it instantly and realize what's going on. If the slaves are attacked, they'll snap out of their 'gazing into space' deal and defend themselves and fight. If you retreat and leave them alone...which you can do on enough fronts so you can hold the line and join up with Julian again...they just stop in the middle of battle and stare into space.-50 PE as you direct your forces pull back and let the human slaves stare and drool in peace.

>>26576461So the spellshooters are at 30 or 35?
>>26576486We're beating them by 11, and our flank comes in automatically with a particularly effective round of combat.
>>26576461All right, we gotta back off the non hostile human units and focus on the giant fuckers. Also, I have an amusing suspicion of what we're spot checking for.
Can we morningstar yet? If so call in the dawnchasers and morningstar, along with the flank and spellshootersLets push this advantage.
>>26576461Fall back for now. Do we deploy shooters now, or when the flank hits for maximum casualties?
>>2657649430. They were at 25 last time.

Rolled 13>>26576515If we hit with both at the same time we may cause a large enough shock to rout them in one go.
>>26576515Depends on our next set of options.I'd say a low-risk 20 maneuver and spellshooters to trigger the flanks would be fine, if a bit conservative.

>>26576494So, PE is at 299 now.Actually Sophie's squad is at 35.Anyway, you can continue to hold the line. It's much easier now that you don't have as many humans to fight.1) Continue to hold the line 30/5, 20/102) Spread out, a bit riskier with Julian, but you'll get better control of the field. 40/5, 30/10+Julian rolls3)Call the flank +200, No PE...yet.4) Merge with the Blessed 50/5* 50/10*5) Call Dawnchasers 40/10, 30/10*Mean Blessed casualties

>>26576567Let's hold for a little while longer and maybe call the flank next round. When should we use the spellshooters?
>>26576567Hold the line. next round we hold the line and call spellshooters, to drop PE to around 200 and trigger reinforcements, putting us in the neighborhood of 500.From there it's a route.
>>26576567HOLD DAT FUKKEN LINE
>>26576567Call the Dawnchasers.

>>265765672, we need the advantage that spreading out gives us, even if it could cause problems.
>>26576601Next round they'll do a lot of damage. With something like what >>26576602 is suggesting, we drop PE as far as possible before the flanks come in, which minimizes the likelihood that some reinforcements on their side will cause a problem and maximizes the effectiveness of 200 new troops.
Alright, at what point should we order the Blessed to charge?
>>26576567>No PE...yet.Maybe it wuld be a good idea to wait and see if they pull something, THEN active the Shooters to counter.

However, finding the tea was important, all of it was.Still, it was a little unnerving to see that shocked look on Master's face when he smelled the Fell Weed on the air. >>26576878Yeah, hopefully the combination of 100 in one turn plus the coming reinforcements will allow us to retire from the field.
>>26576842>Snap the fuck out of it, everyone needs us alert>Use the Morningstar
>>26576842Echo, if we save Sophie and Crew, will they go up by 10?
>>26576898Our horde is people. We collect entire Nations
>>26576904>>26576876>>26576878>>26576901Think of it this way.At least we're out of those firebombs. If we weren't, this would be a LOT more dragony.
>>26576900Should put the PE troops at 169, by my count?
>>26576870Ha fuck no. Let ourselves me a monster. If we must detroy ourselves and scar our mind that we may prevent children from being sent to die, then let's dive smiling into that fucking meatgrinder.
>>26576922That's entirely out of character.
>>26576918Maybe we shouldn't be allowed to own guns
>>26576918We should try breathing fire right here and now. I mean, it wouldn't work if we were Paladin!Ssen.
>>26576935For Paladin!Ssen, yes.
>>26576937I don't think that's even part of our biology or it would have come up when Granny feral'd us.
>>26576961>>26576937yeah, we have poison breath.
>>26576961We can always try
... I wonder if we could sprout wings right now.
>>26576935War is out of character. Didn't say we wouldn't regret it later, but shit's gotta get done and if we have to be in an altered state of consciousness to accomplish it, then oh well. War is an ugly thing and it wreaks havoc on people's minds. But disregard me if you want, it's nothing to get uppity about.
>>26576961We hold a torch in front of our mouth and exhale the triple concoction
>>26576961Fuck you! Dragons don't need to take shit from biology. That's how dragon magic works! They just don't give a shit so much that nature bends to their will.
>>26576977no, no we couldn't.We probably have spines out, though, if it's any better.>>26576997We don't know dragon magic, but it MIGHT manifest if we go dragon enough. I think it's much more likely that what will manifest is us just biting a whole bunch of ettins to death.
>>26576980And we haven't prepared for it, so calm the fuck down.>>26576994It's not a breath weapon, it's cloudkill, on us.
>>26576980You're wrong. Rising above base instincts is a fundamental aspect of the character, and has been from the start.
>>26576994Our concoction reacts with methane and normal air to explode. We checked the chemistry during the corpse-ball monster thread
>>26576980Yeah, we're going to have to do some serious penance of our own after this.No debating what that is. Let's have Lea decide this time.
>>26576869>>26576868>>26576862"FIRE! SOPHIE! MAGE! EVERYONE! FIRE FIRE FIREEEEEE!" You cackle with joy as you slam Beacon into the ground."And so, did the Great Paladin Serpent, call forth His Light upon that battlefield, and guided the hands and eyes of every child there. He saw their Works, their weapons and creations, and was gladdened by His Children's cleverness. (Later editions will be slightly edited by you, Lea, or the Nitors to have His Light also be saddened by the Flame Lance and Lightning Pack's uses for war...but the first edition was written by Tammy who was watching the whole thing from the wall...so she just wanted them dead, and wasn't remunerating on the horror of war.)His Light and His Fire leapt from their hands, and with cracks that could split the heavens the Beautiful Spell-Shooters, capes fluttering in His Wind, His Light guiding their eyes under their wonderful hats...and Lord Paladin Julian Graves swung his sword in a arc of the most blinding Glory to His Works...and that was when we all knew that we were His Chosen. Beast, Human, Elf, or Dwarf, all were beloved in His Light. For had He not smote the Betrayer among them? And now He was guiding us all...to victory...to home...and (Tammy goes off into poetic purple prose at this point and we can skip it)You: 305PE: 169The flank takes that massive surge of light, as the signal to charge. Weakened as they are, the charge nails into the ettin like a sack of hammers.- 19, for clean up.PE: 150You're less giddy now. The high's gone off, and even Beacon seems to have calmed down now.You have some options.1) Focus on finishing these fuckers off. Wont take long.2) Find the War Idol3) Look for Kincaid4) See if you can do anything about the zoned-out human PE slaves.
>>26576997That makes a good amount of sense. Also, let me get this straight. We started out as a rogue with a bow, but reclassed to paladin while retaining points in sneak and charm, and now we've just multiclassed to a berserker. Fun.
>>26577027Find our fellow paladin, we need to calm the fuck down.
>>26577027War Idol. We can find Kinkaid and deal with the PE Slaves once that is dealt with, no sooner.
>>26577027Either 2 or 3.Let's go find Kincaid.
>>265770273. Kinkaid and mage. We outnumber the enemy significantly on the field, and we can send a crew to get the idol. Those two are important.
>>26577028It's more of bloodlust than a beserk fury. It's a racial trait that crops up every once in a while.
>>26577049scratch this.>>26577027We can send Lea and Peri/Mari after the idol. Tricia and Mage should look for Kincaid with us.
>>26577027KINCAAAAAAAAID! COME BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!
>>26577027Find that War Idol. We've calmed the fuck down, now it's time to get to work.
>>26577028>>26577063yeah, it happened in our first fight, and occasionally pops up when we have to gut a whole bunch of folk or crush some.
>>26577027Look for Kincaid. I refuse to believe that his own spell would kill him. Not a mage that has survived for so long around that many explosions.
>>26577027The idol is the primary objective. We complete our mission and look for Kincaid amongst the dead later. But perhaps he will not be one of them.
>>26577027>Find the War IdolGotta get it before they can cart it away or scuttle it.
>>26577078We don't know kincaid's status, making sure he's alive would be great for morale
War Idol.Finish our initial objectives.
>>265770273) look for Kinkaid.
>>26577086actually our primary objective is allowing the elves to wreak havoc and replace the slave codexthe idol is our optional bonus objective that we can do at a later time but want to knock out now.
>>26577080Biting accelerates it a lot as well
>>26577027Look for Kincaid. We are not letting him stay MIA. The War idol is next and I doubt the PE will regroup anytime soon.
3) look for Kincaid
Since we can't seem to choose, can we split the party like i suggested up >>26577074
>>26577049>>26577061>>26577062Alright, you see Lea in the Flank going to town, and it looks like she and Julian will be fine holding the line, and there's Mage and Tricia with the Blessed, keeping them together and stable.Mari's gotten herself a rifle and is shooting with Sophie's crew.Kincaid! You slither away from the line to try and find the Paladin Arcane.Roll 3d20, you're trying to hit a target number.
>>26577090As opposed to pulling shit that will later be remembered as calling a direct divine intervention? After smashing apart a third of the remaining force at one go? Kincaid's a grown-ass man. He can take care of himself, or he's dead. But the entire point of this was to draw attention away so NewRobin can do her work, and so that we can get the Idol. So let's go ahead and DO that, yeah?
Rolled 7, 2, 19 = 28>>26577122
Rolled 14, 3, 9 = 26>>26577122good to go>>26577123didn't we agree before the battle we would claim it after the battle?
Rolled 16, 15, 19 = 50>>26577122
>>26577099You can have more than one primary objective of equal importance, but the fact remains that Kincaid is a side mission. We need the idol. Let's just have the Blessed move up and search for him while the rest of us advance, mop up the ettin, and take the idol.
Rolled 17, 2, 12 = 31>>26577122I still say we more pressing engagements than finding Kincaid.
>>26577028I still stand that we're more of a generic Hero/Lancer or a Templar at best instead of being in the paladin class. All of our Light/Holy base abilities come from Beacon instead of ourselves
>>26577138I think we got it.
>>26577138holy hell thats some good rolls.
Rolled 17, 19, 13 = 49>>26577122here goes everything
>>26577138NICE! Goddamn man. Way to make up for that 1
>>265770272 War Idol
>>26577138What is WITH you and numbers, Redaeth?!
>>26577142He is literally the only Paladin of his order available. Losing him is major morale problem
>>26577138Damn, son. At least we succeeded in the random side mission.NOW can we try to find the idol before thy get the idea they're losing and try to retire with it?
>>26577155If you're rolling low 90% of the time, that 10% is bound to come up aces. Just don't push it.
>>26577138*WAR ALL OVER!*
>>26577138Ace! We find ALL of his parts so they can be buried together.
>>26577138I think we found him guys.>>26577165It's War. People die. Confirm deaths when hostile forces go into retreat. No sooner.
>>26577176Soon as we find him and mage?Yeah sure.
>>26577165He's a Red, like Julian. This was explicitly mentioned. There are TWO Reds.
>>26577165Admittedly, his order mostly makes explosions, but I think some discussions with Mage and Granny could shape his world-view. There are so many more efficient ways to destroy things, for example.
>>26577138You find a groaning elf slightly buried in a large mud puddle. He's completely caked in mud from head to toe.He looks up at you and blinks. "So...you look like you've had fun." He spits out a mouthful of mud. "Are we winning?"
>Tammy is on the walls, writing poetry>Poetry is actually flattering towards usHoly shit, do Terry and Tammy like us now? Did they forgive us for that little knockout, like we had hoped?
>>26577205Not sure, but the Ettin are definitely losing.
>>26577205"I made light. Lots and lots of it."
>>26577205"Yesyes, lotsa dead two headers. Slaves staring off into space. Not enough. Need to find War Idol. Out of mud now."Start yanking on him.
>>26577205Pluck him out of the mud and show him the desolation.
>>26577205So far. Wouldn't be surprised if something jumped up, but most of the army is intact. How about you? Anything broken?
>>26577205Yes. We've wittled them down enough that they are outnumbered and surrounded.
>>26577204Instead of blowing the whole thing up, blow up tiny little parts and watch it fall. Fun!
>>26577205"So much fun that we're pushing them handily. Are you okay? I need to rush off and attend to the idol, if you are. Oh, and have you seen Mage?"
>>26577189The man is a living artillery cannon and an important part of the theocracy that pretty much everyone follows.>>26577199I must have missed that bit, I thought we only had one guy from each order.>>26577205"I think you'd be pleased with what we got done, just don't pull that kind of stunt again."
