Sup /tg/. Wouldn't your favourite RPG be improved if it had more giant robots?
WoD needs giant robots.
I hate Technomancer.So. Much.
>AdEvaYes, yes it would. We don't need this many sessions wasted on going to school, everything's fucking stalled since you have nothing prepared to actually progress anything.

Fuck, Mouse guard would be so epic with that.
Why yes. Yes it would.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ8xce9HtD8
I'm pretty sure Planescape has something like that already. If not, fuck yeah, the Blood War just got messier.
Curiously enough I did spend a lot of yesterday thinking ways to turn the Shadowrun v5 ruleset into a PacRim game.
Cherno Alpha improves all

>>26427921Some say, he once fought in a jaeger...solo.Some say, he had over 12 confirmed kaiju kills. All we know, he's the Marshal.
>>26427932It was because Mako and dead brother guy were being asshats and so it caused the 2 best Jaegers to die ;_;
>>26427952It was because Del Toro knew he had to kill off the Best Jager. At least it died in a cool way other than just get its head ripped off.
I actually think I have a working headcanon for why the EMP didn't fuck up Gipsy. She's 'analog' as in, direct hardware input processing (move the leg like this, the leg moves like this), no software involved (no 'leg makes motion this and this, actuate servos this and this to this degree). As such, when she's shut down, there's no data for the EMP to wipe or have an effect on. No fly-by-wire. If she'd have been active when the EMP hit, it WOULD have fried her.
>>26427960Damn straight. Melted by acid, double teamed, kaiju elbow drop.T'was glorious ;_;7
>Hey there is 2 rank 4 kaiju at the same time !>ok guys, let's split up, what could possibly happen ?
>>26427966Raleigh said something about her reactor, I thought?
>>26427976 I kinda wanna make a game where my players are going to die and come back each time. They know this before hand and can use this to their advantage. Seeing as this is a pic rim thread, does anyone know the status of the pacific rim quests, I was quite enjoying those.
>>26427998Apparently dead, though you better ask in the QTG just in case.
>>26427887>Hell, even blowing up the reactor is less physics raping than is often stated.YOU FUCKING TAKE THAT BACKNo seriously you *cannot* blow up a nuclear reactor like a nuclear bomb. If you even think about bringing up Fukushima or Chernobyl...
>>26427990>>26427966Yeah, all the Mark 1 Jaegers ran off Nuclear power or something along those lines.
>>26428018The way he set it implied that it was designed to be detonatable, some kind of future reactor where that's possible is far from the worst physics in here.
>>26428019Gipsy was Mk 3, right?
>>26427966Seems likely; another possibility is that the older nuclear powered Jaegers had EM hardened hardware to protect vital systems from the pwoer source, whereas the newer ones like Striker didn't require it (thus getting fucked over by the first Kaiju to use an EMP).
>>26428032Gipsy after she's rebuilt is some kind of Mk 3/5 hybrid. The chain sword for example is a new addition. It's said that she's one of a kind in the movie itself.
>>26428018I really wish I could find the New Scientist article for this, but we have accidentally caused a true nuclear explosion (as opposed to the effective dirty bombs of the two you mentioned) in a nuclear reactor before. Think it was somewhere in Eastern Europe, didn't get massively publicised because it was relatively small and didn't irradiate everything (unlike Chernobyl). Also, given that he had a button for it, >>26428030 is probably on the money.
>>26428053Weren't literally all of the Jaegers one-of-a-kind?
>>26428030In that case you would basically have a nuclear bomb strapped to the side of a nuclear reactor. It's like designing an oven that can also be used for welding; whilst both uses involve heat, they're dissimilar you can't meaningfully combine any of their features.
>>26427823Oh man this picture. The art style reminds me of Samurai Jack, and all I can think of is Gendy tartatovsky and del toro making a prequel animated series about Cherno Alpha HNNNNNNNGG
>>26428062No, it's blatantly stated that Cherno is part of a mass produced series in side material. I believe that so is Horizon Brave.Striker is/was probably a Mk 5 prototype/proof of concept specced up to full capability after they bailed on the Jaeger program.
>>264280322 I thoughtMark I's were the solo pilots, Mark II was cherno alpha and gipsy
>>26428062Striker was a prototype, I believe. Crimson, Cherno, and Gipsy were all production models at their base.
>>26427921Del Toro stated that he chose those titles due to them evoking the classic Western and not really having anything to do with the modern military. As a pacifist, he wanted it to be clear that it wasn't an army or military saving the world. Just A Few Good Men.
>>26428078This also explains Mr. Hero didn't seem to use those swords until Mako popped them at the end of the movie
>>26428062iirc each country put it's own 'spin' on the jaegers, but there were clear production lines in terms of 'era'.Mark Is used 1 pilot, were dangerous tot hat pilot and not greatMark IIs were like Gipsy, dual pilots, pretty gewd.Marks 3-5 just got better over time in terms of abilities and movement. That's the reasons triker and the chinese one are so quick and nimble and look less bulky
>>26428090It was never him that was the problem. She knew that jaeger top to bottom but 'forgot' the fucking sword?
>>26428085Crimson wasn't quite mass-produced I think, unless there were a whole of Ranger Triplets.
>>26428100To be fair, it's stated heavily that she's a total green newb. She probably didn't 'forget', but let him take the lead in terms of fighting. And he was used to punching dudes in the face like the american bad ass he was.
It's a shame the Pacific Rim game was so bad. Even though pretty much all movie games suffer the same fate, but this one had so much potential ;_;
>>26428095No, you're wrong.Mark 0 was single pilot, proven to not be capable of functioning, all were upgraded to Mark 1 specs with dual pilot capacity. Biggest flaw was no radiation shielding for the crew. Coyote Tango and Cherno Alpha are mark 1s though Cherno was upgraded vast amounts over time.Mark 2 had the radiation shielding added, but little else.Mark 3 is Gipsy Danger's gen, the last of the nuclear powered ones.Mark 4 is Crimson Typhoon, the 'let's see if this design works' period, though there are more sensible and traditional designs than Crimson.Mark 5 only has Striker Eureka, probably as the proof of concept. Used bleeding edge tech, compared to mark 4 Jaegers. Same relation to mark 4 as mark 2 to mark 1.
>>26428120Del Toro's pushing his own. Got pissed at the suits and decided he should get behind one so that is isn't terrible.
>>26428106>at their baseCherno wasn't exactly a Mk 1, either. It had been continually upgraded over the years.
>>26428123Tacit Ronin is Mark IV, correct?
>>26428140No, mark I along with also Horizon Brave and Romeo Blue.http://i.imgur.com/GqzMvxq.jpg

Since none of the /m/ threads are currently updating I'll ask here: Why the hell didn't Rinko dub her own lines for the Japanese release? I mean it's awesome that they got Hayashibara to do it but it still seems kinda wasteful.
>>26428264Because teh Rei is the last reason I heard.
>>26428276also she is vrey unpopular in japan, dont ask me why i just know she aint popular
>>26428191Can't confirm it, but the QM hasn't been around in a while. And this is the last mention about it in the QTG:> https://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/26380200/#26382407
>>26428089That's actually pretty cool.
>>26428323Yup. It's also the reason that the movie isn't disaster porn like other blockbusters suffer from. In addition to the homage to Eva, people are almost always evacuated before a kaiju attack so that you never worry about people getting killed as collateral.
>>26428421I'm pretty sure del Toro admitted he never watched Evangelion, but that it is on his "must watch" list.
>>26428451Gotta wonder what the pilots are thinking.
>>26428458Cherno's pilots are married to each other, so I doubt they're seduced.
>>26428435He hasn't watched the series, but either he or contributing writers are familiar enough with it and the sea of mecha series to provide constant homages. The movie itself is a love letter to giant robots and Toho kaiju movies. Getter Robo in particular seems to be beloved.
>>26428464Or, they're thinking 'foursome'
>>26428464"I'm tired! Can we kill these Kaiju yet so I can go home and sleep!""I'm hungry! Can we go home yet so I can get something to eat!""TITTIES!"

>>26428486who do you think was scoping out the titties?
I want an RPG system that has on-foot combat, mecha combat where the pilot's stats have a significant effect on the mech's capabilities, and preferable magic or psychic powers thrown in.I'll just be here, living in the past...
>>26428323>>26428421It really shows, when comparing Pacific Rim to 2007's TransformersTransformers was made by a misanthrope who had no attachment to the project, wanted to cash in some good money and jerk off to his armyman fetishPacific Rim was made by a humanist who loved the genre since he was a child, wanted to do the best job possible, and share it with the world.
>>26428502If only Ctech wasn't shit...
>>26428524It's something that even Red Letter Media picked up on in their review of PacRim. And amusing enough, their major issue with the movie which they got over to endorse it was a lack of characterization. Funny, given there's three hours of footage that was cut for release that's pretty much entirely character development and interaction. I want that Director's Cut DVD so badly.
>>26428548Yeah, it was sad how much of the movie was just romantic tension between Mako and Raleigh. It's a shame that Cherno and Crimson barely got any background or screen time.
>>26428548Change DVD to BluRay, and I'm there. Imagining all the extra features has me so powered up I could power a Jaeger.Red letter Media's observation (this world feels so much larger) is a huge boon for a franchise like this. Spin off comics, prequels, sequels, etc - all can be mined out of the "we use Giant Robots to fight Giant Monsters" schtick.Plus, it warms my inner eight-year-old's heart to imagine kids and neckbeard ucnle like us dreaming up our own Jaegers and forming tag-teams to save the world.Bravo, Mr. Del Toro. You done good.
>>26428129>>26428138>>26428153You know what I'd like to see? A PacRim game that's like X-Com. You spend 90% of the time trying to research and build your Jaegers from a selection of bases from around the Rim, and in an increasingly shorter period of time, a Kaiju with a pool of semi-randomised abilities, that get more and more outlandish and difficult to deal with as the campaign goes on, attacks.
>>26428536Yeah... Except Cthulhutech would still have the issue that all their different elements (engels, mechs, magic, etc.) don't work together at all.One of the reasons I liked Xenogears. Character is a martial artist? They can use martial arts moves in their Gear. Character is a caster? They can cast amplified spells when in their Gear. Though character is a healer = character can remove Gear status effects, but not heal, was actually something I liked... Made it clear that it's a machine.Never found a game that can adequately replicate the feel. Doesn't even have to be exact, just close enough to feel similar...And all of my attempts at homebrew fail utterly.
>>26428633>Jaeger deaths combined with how sad deaths are in XcomMuh feels cannot handle this...
>>26428673XCom Rookie-grade Jaegers.
>>26427534That is surprisingly like a jaeger I made
>>26428633There's nothing that confirms the idea of him actively working on a better, non-cash cow game with, but it is discussed herehttp://www.dailymotion.com/video/x11t7n8_pacific-rim-guillermo-del-toro-on-the-video-game-sequel_videogames
>>26428612Another thing that Red Letter touched on and that really makes me love Del Toro even more is the theme of the movie. None of the cynicism or flag-waving we've grown used to, but instead the power of teamwork and putting aside differences. Whether its the two competing scientists working together or the two pilots needed for a Jaeger, PacRim is a story about two people coming together, willing to sacrifice their own lives for the greater good. It's a story of friendship, of nobility, and of dedication. Qualities all too rare in a modern Hollywood hero.

>>26428668Is there a xenogears PNP? Link pls? In a fortuitous series of events, my gaming group is actually excited to run a mecha-flavored game, and I'm on the hunt for something relatively easy to learn, but with a bit more depth than rolling a few D6's every few minutes.(my gaming group is decidedly on the roleplay/rules-light end, and it makes it easier to GM, but still).Setting will be far smaller than Pacific rim, think appleseed/hawken power-armory types. >>26428862>>lasers pew pew pewIt actually was only good because it was better than just punching a kaiju. Once you made a hole you could stick it inside the kaiju and keep firing, wrecking insides. Also, it burns rather than splashes, so it removes kaiju blue. Also rule of cool.

>>26427634>roll of nickelsWhy isn't that a standard feature?
>>26428753I did, but it's wargame rules, not a ttrpg.
Because Russians are insane.

>>26430026But I did that anon...
>>26427586I know, right?
>>26429422>implying Cherno isn't a total slut
>>26430090>You now realize that the tow brothers were deep inside Gypsy.>You now realize that Gypsy loves getting double teamed.
>>26430090God Bless the internet.
>>26430153>Fem-Kaiju getting rocket fisted by robogirl Gipsy Danger. Would you watch it?
>>26430171Nah, I'd rather watch Cherno Alpha get double-teamed by Category Four Kaiju after vigorous foreplay with one of them.
>>26430183Tesla fisting then? Also, pregnant fem-Kaiju giving birth to a loli Kaiju.
>>26430171>>26430183My dick hurts! Please stop saying lewd things!
>>26428470Correct, this movie has more similiarity with Getter Robo than any shows imoDinosaur based empire as enemy? checkComing from the Ocean? checkMech piloted by 2 or more personnel? checkInfiltrating mecha into their headquarters? check check checkThey only lack magic energy source as the mecha propellant. I loved it
>>26430215Well, Crimson Typhoon would be able to fist/tease/please at least 3 at once also, rotating vibrator fists. So to answer your question, no.
>>26428734Yes, I am also tired with cynical and grimdark storytelling, everything needs to be in moderation
>>26430225Try Godannar.1) Multinational effort, where every nation builds their own robots2) Two-pilot system3) Relationship between pilots is a focus of the series4) Giant monsters5) Giant monsters produce a biological hazardNot to say it doesn't share some things with Getter Robo, but Godannar happened to hit closer.
>>26430293Hmm yes good point, I havent watch Godannar tho
>>26430225>>26430293Or y'know, both.
>>26430318I was merely disputing which was closer to the movie, not whether A is an inspiration or B isn't.
>>26429687It would be, yes. Technically it is, I mean, there are mechs around...
dammit Del Toro, all I needed was maybe 30 seconds of news footage of Cherno punching a kaiju until its skull cracks open.
>>26426800How do even run out of material in that game. Literally all you do is roll on a table and the game shits encounters and plots.
>>26430215Anon, wich jaeger wood u fugg?
>>26430708I-I haven't thought about it too much But I would like to Fugg moe chirno and milf tango...
>>26430840That's...acceptable taste, Anon. I'm more of a Crimson Typhoon man myself, but I respect your above par choices.

>>26431089Hey, don't knock it 'til you try it, m8
>>26427504This is amazing
...I mean, how hard could it be?
Gipsy Danger girls where the glasses aren't over her eyes upset me
>>26427823Man it'd be awesome. Herc Hanson and Kaidonovsky jr. could have some moments since Herc lost his son and the kid lost his parents.
>>26431426Top Gear: Ambitious, but rubbish.
Seeing as how Cherno Alpha is basically Big O the Jaeger, i wonder what jaegers based on Big Duo and Big Fau would look like.
>>26431304>Hey, don't knock it 'til you try it, m8WHo says I haven't?I'm complaining -because- I want it bad
>>26431821I would love that. Iron Giant repairs and wakes up to find the town Hogarth had come from is being destroyed by a Kiaju. Sent into a Berserk rage at loss of life he attacks and destroys the Kaiju, but finds out he is too late to save his friend. He somehow ends up in the PPDC and becomes a great line of defense against the alien threat.
>>26431927Didn't the Iron Giant kick a gigantic dragons ass in the book?
>>26431986Yup. Great big star dragon.
>>26431821Iron Giant may be smaller, but his long range weaponry is far more powerful than anything in the pacific Rim universe, although, the acid produced by some Kaiju could fuck him up for good.
>>26432044Yeah, acid might be a problem although anything else we've seen kaiju do would be at most a temporary setback.
>>26431927Hogarth was on the east coastPacific is on the other side of the country
>>26432356new portal opened on the atlantic?
>>26426579pretty sure he had nothing to do with this.
>>26432605...God dammit, The Asylum is doing it again.
>>26432575Whiskey Output took care of that one.
>>26428862"MARAUDER is, or was, a United States Government research project. It is an acronym of Magnetically Accelerated Ring to Achieve Ultra-high Directed Energy and Radiation. It was first reported on August 1, 1993.The objective appears to be the firing of 1 meter diameter toroids of magnetically contained plasma. The toroids behave in a similar manner to spheromak plasma reactors. As of 1993 the project appeared to be in the early experimental stages. The weapon was able to produce doughnut shaped rings of plasma and balls of lightning that exploded with devastating effects when hitting its target. The project's initial success led to it becoming classified and no more details of how it developed after 1993 are available."CBA to find the Wiki link, but this shit is pretty cool
>>26432605how horrible is it?
>>26432654are those the same guys who made the "Transmorphers" film when the Transformer movie came out? Cause that one was really bad.
