Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

Abigail's entrance into the Archonium was sudden, and not what you expected. She lost herself somewhere within the enchanted gateway, stuck between bits of her personality given life and pitted against one another. With no other recourse, you dived in after her.

The archonium transported you to the deep recesses of your own mind. You met with the elf queen, Ellendra Kalladar, your Humanity, and your Temerity. Queen Kalladar informed you that you were, in fact, Erebus. She split you before you could fully recover in order to give you what she termed a "choice", and informed you that the elements were an illusion. Fundamentally, there is only Order, and Chaos.

Your Humanity is something new that has coalesced inside you over time, thanks to the opportunity she granted you. Ultimately, you joined forces with it to defeat and reign in your Temerity, who has grudgingly accepted your dominance.

You managed to escape your own visions, and Humanity directed you to Abigail's location within the vast dark of the Archonium that lies between the gateways. Within her vision, 11 long years have passed. In a strange world in which she was the only source of magic, she united warring clans of monsters and beasts and ruled over them as empress. However, after forming that empire, her personality split in three, and have since been locked in an uneasy stalemate.

You've met the Abigail that still sits on the throne of the Empire. She is ambitious, effective, ruthless, and disturbingly in awe of you. She sees you as the long-awaited anchor to help her defeat the other two sides of herself and escape back to the real world.

After confronting her on subject of her other sides, you were barely able talk her down, and fled to find the third Abigail. You did, and she has agreed to return with you to face her other self.

>Last time...

The armor comes alive. Pieces snap and close over her. In a few moments, the suit molds over her form, enclosing her in a thick shell that glows with protective magic. The sword resting on the table resonates with the armor.

"...two years in the making," Ben says. "It is my greatest masterwork."

"...better than the helmet you made for the king?"

"That's slapped-together wood compared to this. It could shield you from fear itself."

Abigail smiles, and nods. "Ben...thank you."

Ben scratches the back of his head awkwardly. "...sword goes with it. You know how to use it."

"You taught me yourself."

"Aye."

Abigail raises the sword. It hums with spiritual energy. She swipes it through the air, once, twice, and then sheaths it on the belt of the armor. "I don't know what to say."

"Then don't say anything. Get out there and give 'em hell. Well. You know what I mean."

Abigail smiles, leans forward and kisses Ben on the cheek. "I know what you mean."

A slight blush grows over Ben's features, and then he huffs and folds his arms. "Get up outside and hold on a bit. I want to say something to the big guy over here."

"...alright." She looks at you. "...see you in a minute."

You wait until the sense of Abigail's magic has gone up to the surface level before speaking. <So. It is really your masterwork, or did you just say that?>

"Does it matter?"

<I guess not.>

>con't
>>
"Until this morning, she just knew I was working on something I didn't much talk about for two years. Her expectations make it what it is. That armor will indeed protect her from fear itself, now."

<Clever.>

Ben clears his throat. "Fuck up, and I'll kill you. Now get going."

<...aren't you coming?>

"This is a story, Shadow," he says. "Don't you get it? I'm the old mentor that gives her the tools to succeed. You're the encouraging...friend...love? - well, whatever the hell you are - that sees her through the trial. Split like this, her pieces are still children at heart. Maybe she'll be different when she's united. I don't know. But right now, this is like a storybook. Under the beliefs and the pretensions and the arguments...she believes it will somehow work out, now that you're here. That's the secret strength we've got on our side. This vision will warp itself so that it does work out because she demands it does."

<Then couldn't you say it hasn't worked out yet because she didn't believe it would?>

"You -are- learning. Well. Break a leg."

You walk out of the workshop.

Abigail stands at the entrance to the cavern. The sword is in her hand. She works it deftly, piercing, slashing, stabbing an invisible enemy.

<You're skilled.>

Abigail stops, twirls the sword, and sheaths it in one smooth motion. "I practiced a lot. Ben wanted me to be able to defend myself. Just in case."

<Are you ready?>

"...yeah."

<Don't worry,> you say. <Ben told me about his history. With those weapons - and me - we can do whatever needs to be done.>

"...what if the empress lied? She might do that, if she's like uncle Yi."

<We'll cross that bridge when we get there. But I believe that what she told me was sincere.>

Abigail nods. "I trust you."

<I know.> You move into the cavern. <Let's go.>

You pass through the dark woods, the arching branches and clustered leaves. The barrier washes over you.

When Abigail passes through it, it begins to fade. You glance back - and when you do, the entrance to the cavern in gone, lost in trees and the stalks of overgrown mushrooms. As if it was never there.

Abigail doesn't turn back. She marches at your side, looking ahead. Her hand grips her sword's hilt tightly, and the enchantments on the armor glow bright. Ben was right. She does trust you.

<It's going to be pretty tough from here on out. Just remember that I've got your back.>

Abigail smiles. "I know."

---------
---------

As you emerge from the deep forest, you keep your senses alert and stay perched on several extra feet. But that omnious prescence you sensed earlier - Abigail's Fear - does not appear.

Abigail looks to you. "What's the plan?"

What do you do?

>fly Abigail to the palace

humm. didnt plan on what to do if fear didnt show up. so either we go look for it or we head to the empress.

i say head to the empress. come what will
>fly Abigail to the palace
>>
>>26412465
Hmm. I kind of don't want to get caught by this thing in mid-air. Puts Abigail in a really bad position to defend our counterattack and basically leaves us to take the hit.

See how Abigail feels about confronting it now and getting it over with.
>>
>>26412465

Find fear, deal with it. If we're moulding the Abigail that will emerge from this place, we can't let fear stick around. That's not really something I want to leave in the depyhs of her psyche.
>>
>>26412497

It's not around.

I'll save us some time:

-----------------
-----------------

<I felt something, earlier. Out here in the forest...and I didn't like it.>

"...Ben probably told you," she says. "Fear. When I tried to leave, once...it drove me back. But..." A slight smile curls the edge of her lips. She looks up at you. "I'm not afraid, not now. It won't come."

<I see.>

What do you do?
>>
>>26412497
I was actually tempted to suggest this. The exp would certainly help. Not sure if we actually want to face it though.

>Ask Abigail if she wants to face the local monster first or move straight to the palace.
>>
>>26412465
>fly Abigail to the palace

If fear follows us then that just means it will be something the two Abigails will have to fight together.
>>

>>
>>26412539
>>26412512

book it
>fly Abigail to the palace
>>
>>26412539
Then just fly back to the palace.
>>
<I'm going to fly us to the capital so we can meet with the empress. Are you ready?>

"...yeah."

<Hold on tight.> You wrap yourself under Abigail's arms and hoist her up. After making sure you've got a secure grip on her armor, you flap clear of the trees and gather your aura behind you.

------
BOOM
------

-WHUMP-

Your supersonic cuts out high over the palace. You can feel the spirit magic of the empress sitting quietly in the vast throne room below. It perks up at your prescence, probing, not unlike your own senses - and then goes very still. She knows what's coming.

You land with your armored Abigail in on of the enclosed gardens close to the throne room. The palace is silent. You take the lead, guiding her through the hallways to the great double-doors that mark the entrance to the audience chamber.

The doors open for you when you arrive. The march up the carpet toward the throne is a long one. Abigail's steel mail clanks across the polished floor in a regular rhythm. Abigail the empress stands from her seat and walks down the stairs to meet you.

You stand between them, and they face each other in the center of the room. The empress holds a wooden staff. It is twisted up in a slight spiral, and an orange crystal glows softly at its end. Abigail puts a hand on the hilt of her sword.

"...maybe...we can talk?" Abigail asks hesitantly.

"...ugh." The empress puts a hand on her face. "It's embarassing to even look at you."

"I'm embarassed you're the first part of us Shadow had to meet," Abigail says.

"At least I held myself together," the empress hisses. "You ran and hid in a corner. Like. A. Little. Girl."

"You tried to kill her. You tried to kill me."

"She needs to die. You were getting in the way."

"She just needs to be understood."

>con't
>>
"She's a demon!" the empress shouts. "The archmage told us everything we need to know about demons. They're no better than golems - it just seems like they have a personality because that makes them a better weapon. The Banshee must be slain."

"She isn't some kind of summon from a template. She's a part of us."

"Oh, yes, the expert on magic, lecturing me about demons," the empress says. "You're a fool. You're weak."

"I am not a weak!"

"...Shadow defended you," the empress says. Her voice starts quiet, and then grows in intensity. "He defended you when he could have had me alone. So that will count for something."

Both of the Abigails glance at you. The expressions on their faces are mixed between every emotion you have a name for.

You feel something in their gazes. Their expectation changes you.

>HP: 9,999/81
>Mana: 48/48

"But if you're not weak...then prove it!" Abigail levels her staff.

Abigail levels her sword. "...I will." The tip of her sword shakes. Her fingers work it back into a better grip.

Something deep and sinister grows in a corner of the room.

It looks...almost like you. But off. A sickly green haze hangs over it, and two yellow eyes stare from its depths. Its figure is obscured by the inky black clouds.

The empress glances at it over her shoulder, then back. There's a dismissive air about her. "You haven't bested your fear, I see."

"Our fear," Abigail says.

"Our?" The empress snorts. "That's the difference between you and me. You can't do anything without fear."

"Fear is only human. It's so we know when there's danger. It's important - "

"A useful tool, if controlled," the empress says. She indicates the growing, looming shape with her head. "-That- is not under control." He twirls her staff. "And I could care less. Prepare yourself!"

So it seems like our options are to either pick a side or fight Abby's fear for her.

I'm not sure if I really like this, since it's something that she should beat herself, but remaining neutral is more important imo.

You touch a hand to Abigail's shoulder. Her sword steadies. She looks at you. "...Shadow?"

<I am more frightening than anything you could imagine,> you say. <I will deal with that thing.> You look at the empress. <Any complaints?>

"...no, Shadow," she says. "Do as you will. But...don't interfere in our fight."

I don't quite get why this shouldn't work for little girls. They trust us. They believe us. What they believe becomes the truth.

The only thing that could fail is that they do not believe Shadow. If my experience tell me anything though, it is that both kids and impressionable adults will believe people they trust.

While I know the argument has no bearing on the quest I am interested in understanding what you mean.

Your arm flickers.

Fear is hit with a blow like a boulder launched from a catapult. It flies out one of the nearby windows of the audience chamber and into a courtyard. You leap down after it.

It's ready for your arrival. It twists like a snake - no, a centipede. A tail lined with a dozen arms swings at you. You push through the hit, shape your arm into a spike, and slam it though Fear's face.

It warps, melts, turns to gas. An instant later, it reforms behind you. You spin and barely get your hand up as it bites for you. Its jaw locks on your body, and you pummel it at its neck. You try to Ink between its teeth, but it somehow stops you from doing so. It shakes its mouth side to side, ripping in deeper.

You continue to beat it, but when the pain in your side continues to grow, you grab it and forcibly tear it out. It scrapes your arm, but you're able to throw it against a nearby statue. But before it hits, it turns to gas again and reforms neatly on the ground.

You circle each other, crunching through the gravel of the courtyard.

Meanwhile, you can feel the Abigails fighting. The empress has summoned several heavy presences of spirit, but the knight is carving through them as fast as she can make them.

What do you do?

I don't think it would work on Empress Abby, only Knight Abby. Empress has ambition, drive, and clear goals. She knows what she wants and she is going to whatever it takes to make it happen. Knight Abby is the one whose beliefs can be swayed in a subconscious way.

You tell me nothing new. What I wrote was meant as an argument that the opposed aspects are not completely rigid extremes that cannot function together which was how it worked for us. The conflict was to be solved by realizing that there is no clean cut between them. The rational one has emotions, the emotional one has reason.

>>26413066
We have already swayed her by using emotions. We are the link that connects the abbies. A source of weakness and change of mind for the Empress, a source of strength and courage for the Knight. While what you say would be true for outsiders we are a special case.

You power up a Bind as strong as you can and throw it at Fear.

As the ropes of orange magic collapse in on its position, it attempts to shift back to gas - but it isn't quick enough! The magic wraps it up and ties itself tight, keeping it in place. It struggles to snap the roping and get free -

But your one-two combination is already completed. Your shadow stretches from your feet all the way to Fear, and it's frozen still. You can't move well yourself while your focus is on maintaining your grip, but Fear is under your control, bound and locked in place.

You sit there a moment, catching you breath. Well, you don't need to breath...but that's what it feels like.

Fear keeps trying to break your control, shifting to and fro, but you match its attempts easily.

You stand there, waiting. You suppose this is ideal - keep it contained until the Abigails can finish.

An explosion rocks the palace next to you.

Armored Abigail comes flying through the wall. She tumbles like a ragdoll, arms and legs flipping wildly, then slides to a halt. For a moment, you're afraid she won't get back up - but she leaps up again in a heartbeat.

The empress stalks through the hole in the wall made by her efforts. There's blood dripping from a gash on her arm. She raises a hand, and a missle of orange magic launches out. Armored Abigail raises her sword and cuts the magic in two. The broken spell spirals off to either side of her.

The empress smirks. The sliced magic collides with columns holding up part of the balcony. An avalanche made of marble and stone plummets down onto Abigial. She curls into a ball, and an orange glow blossoms around her armor. But she's buried in the rubble.

The empress exhales heavily, and leans on her staff.

Abigail's armored fist blasts out of the rubble. She pushes a heavy chunk of marble to the side, then clambers back up. The iron is dented and scuffed, but otherwise she's in full health. The two of thems stare at each other.

You're about to say something when they both scream an angry, wordless battle cry. Armored Abigail leaps off the pile of stone and lunges forward. Empress Abigail sprints to meet her head-on, using her staff to spin streamers of magic about herself. Sword clashes on magic, and they hold there, pressed against one another, struggling for advantage.

You forcibly drag Fear into the corner, trying to keep out of the way.

You hear a voice from inside you suddenly speak. <Now,> Temerity says. <You hold Fear in place. I will tip the scales and do what must be done. She can serve at our side.> You remain silent. Temerity takes it as a prompt. <Don't hesitate. She either joins Order, or dies along with the rest of this world.>

<This world won't die, and neither will she.>

<Conflict between Order and Chaos is inevitable,> Temerity says. <Don't waste this opportunity on petty idealism.>

He wasn't a summoned creature, though; at least not one as we know them. What are demons?
are they beings of Order, or of Chaos?

This is crucial as due to her demonic heratage, it is possible that temerity will either reject or destroy that part of her if demons are beings of Chaos... and that would change who she is, which would be counter productive of our plan to unite her three sides back into the Abby we knew before she entered this place...
>>

You guys know that temerity isn't going to be used right? We can't be that big of knob chewers. This isn't our world. We have no right to step in with something this god damn big.

Can't wait for the vote.
>>
>>26413849

The decision could also be a safety measure, in the case of Temerity actually being right. One way or another, Abby is safe.

Just playing Devil's Advocate here.
>>
>>26413857

But thats an empty picture frame? What are you hopping to catch?
>>
>>26413858
But y'know, if we want, this is REALLY the perfect time to flip-flop and then just go on ruin-the-world return-to-order quest, if we wanted. Y'know, y'know?

Indeed.

The decision isn't completely gone just because we decided to fucking force Abigail into a different being. We could, you know, talk to her about it.

Shadow Quest in a nutshell;

>We are a Nice Shadow, no eating things...
>Oh God Mages Hurt... CONSUME THEM ALL!
>We can solve this through Talking...
> KILL THE WORKERS AND EAT ALL THEIR STUFF!
>Let's try peaceful negotiation
>WRECK THEIR SHIT!
>We can be friends
>CONSUME ALL WHO OPPOSE US!
>this guy knows what he's doing
>DESTROY THE CITY! RELEASE THE MAGIC WIELDING SLAVES WITH GRUDGES!
>let's go check on our friends
>KILL THOSE WHO TRY TO HURT THEM!
>We must save Abby
>SUBJEGATE THE RESISTANT TEMERITY!
>No Abby, you must make peace with yourself
> ??????????????

by the pattern, it is time for FORCEFUL SOLUTION TO SIMPLE PROBLEM
>>
>>26413872
If Temerity is right about something BESIDES us coming to destroy the world then we stop it. If he's wrong and we change her here, which is what we're trying to AVOID in the FIRST place then we have literally fucked up so hard that there's no going back. None. Game over man, game over.
>>
>>26413869
>Temerity leads the vote count
Say what, nigglett?
>>
>>26413869

Not sure killing Innocent!Abby is the way to go here.

I would be totally on board for introducing him to the Banshee though...
>>

>Implying that half of this shit isn't samefaggotry.
>Implying Temerity is going to win.
>>26413893
You're oversimplifying things friend-o.
The mages were dicks shooting and killing a small farming village.
The workers worked for the dicks. As such they themselves were dicks.
Anyone who wants to be friends can be friends. If you're actively being a dick then you're gettin rekt kid.
We didn't technically destroy the city. Sandleshit did.
Not protecting your friends? What are you? Not-Batman?
Temerity was a dickhole.
We're trying to have Abby make peace. The most simple solution here is to literally do nothing.
>>
>>26413934
Heheh, well, that's at least one incorrect perspective ruled out a long time ago. But we can still keep going to make things even crazier, y'know?
>>
>>26413893
>implying /tg/ has enough self-awareness to recognize it's persistent hypocrisy

You are new here, aren't you?

Hell what's it matter, SM will never have any of the characters call Shadow out on it's hypocrisy.

>>
>>26413961
I can't wait until we find the one that was made to do exactly that. There's always at least one person in the world willing to do that to everyone.

Perhaps it will be Ila. Team Ila.
>>
>>26413416
I see what's going on.

You're all a bunch of sentient blades of grass trying to start shit in retribution for his leaving the thread in order to go decapitate thousands upon thousands of your brethren.
>>
>>26413979
Fuck, man. The whole Archonium basically existed to call out /tg/ on how Schizophrenic they've played Shadow up 'till then.
>>
>>26413979
>Temerity did call us out on it.
Yeah but he's someone we were already going to oust in the first place.
I think someone much closer calling us out on it would have a greater... result from the player.
>>
>>26413994
I doubt it, Ila's got her throat so far over Shadow's cock it'd be surprising if he did not think she was trying to CONSUME.
>>

>>26413994

>>
>>26414012
Abby did. Said Shadow would go behind her back and make her into what he thought she should be instead of letting her make her choice.

And lo and behold look what the Temerity guys are trying to do.
>>
Could you imagine what could happen if SM just disappears and never comes back?
>>
>>26414028
Yes.
>>
>>26414026
>>26414018
That's true but I still want it to happen more. Makes a more stable character when someone is called out on their bullshit.
>>
>>26414028
It would be terrible. I'm already hating every minute of this.
>>
>>26414028
Yep. I've been in one of those quests before.
I can do more than imagine man, I've lived it.
>>
>>26414026
Except that Shadow is trying to do that too, and is still doing it. Even by being here and trying to force them to merge instead of letting one aspect win out, he is denying her choice.

But whatever, it's only bad when TEMERITY suggests it.
>>
>>26414019
>Team belt
>>
>>26413523
Seconding.
>>
>>26414028
I could finally run my quest!
>>
>>26414055
What the fuck are you even talking about, both Abby's agreed to this.
>>
>>26414056
Best team.
>>
>>26414063
Hey man if it's something similar enough that you want another quest to finish before you've started you may want to remake it into something completely different.
It's not good to get compared to other quests.
Well unless they're in the same setting, of course.
>>
So, in the mean time, let's think about the problems which are about to arise.
When one of the Abigails gains a definitive advantage, she may get caught up and attempt a killing blow. Do we interfere if that happens?
What do we want to do with Fear?
Kill or Subjugate the Banshee?
>>
>>26414065
They agreed to reform. Not to Temerity joining them together with order glue.
>>
>>26414065
>implying Shadow did not influence them into it.
>Implying Banshee made the same choice and will still have that choice.
>>
>>26414093
Ben said that the Banshee was originally a girl that turned into it. I'd like to investigate that.
>>
>>26414097
I'm saying that both Abby's agreed to meet and Shadow stayed out of their fight. I'm against Temerity.

>>26414106
So? He didn't make them and that's what Temerity wants to do.
>>
>>26414122

I know I was clarifying further because some people don't seem to understand.
>>
>>26414065

After we got called out on the fact that we were cheerfully going behind her back.
>>
>>26414093
yes stop killing blow
allow it to fuse with them or be used by them
talk to her first then decide

we have innocent Abby, Abby fang, and ? Abby (the Banshee) until we see what she stands for i don't know if she needs that part.
>>
>>26414183
Well Fang did say she needs that part, for whatever reason. I'd go check the thread where this all started to get his dialogue but...

PIZZA
>>
>>26414183
She needs that part nukka.
>>
>>26414112
>>26414183
I'm in agreement that we should talk/investigate the Banshee. Empress Abbigail Fang is violently opposed to this, however. We just barely got her to agree to a merger with Angel Abby, and we had to give her everything we had for that Diplomacy check. What will we do this time? Be thinking about your speeches, /tg/.

I'm probably gonna hit it from "let me try, Abby - I won't force the issue, but I at least have to try" sort of angle
>>
>>26414208
>>26414213
yes i agree but what happens if Abby fang kills innocent Abby then it would be to dangerous

>>26414243
hopefully if they fuse then she will be more forgiving
>>
>>26414257
We won't let that happen. No matter what /tg/ voted on in the past with regards to non-interference, it won't let Abigail Fang kill Angel Abby.
>>
>>26414257
The entire point was not for them to kill each other. Let's just have some faith our nice Abby will win.
Remember that she has the unbreakable shield right now. That armor's ballin' yo.
Ain't no unstoppable spear in this shit yet.

Banshee Abby has the fuckin spear m8.
>>
>>26414257
>if Abby fang kills innocent Abby
Well then we've got bigger problems.. and it's an if. So we'll deal with its prevention in the moment.
>>
SM come back please
>>
>>26414297
I don't think the winner matters. It's a peaceful merger (or is planned to be), Fang just wants to take a measure of Angel Abby beforehand.
>>
>>26414323
We've gotten the thread mostly back on track. We're actually discussing coming decision points, now.

I think Fear would make a potent tool when we go to see the Banshee.
>>
If Fang Abby dies, then Abby will become a timid little girl, dependent on use for direction and encouragement.

If Angel Abby dies, then Abby will become a strong, independent woman, but devoted enough to us that she'll take out advice and needs on board with her planning.

From a purely practical perspective, if we're forced to choose, the right option shouldn't be difficult.
>>
>>26414358
>We're actually discussing coming decision points, now.
Yeah that's a problem, it's like all my hard work was just temporary in the end.
But at least SM will have less catchup, so there's that.
>>

The Abigails hold their position. The magic between them grows in leaps and bounds as they pour their strength forward, warping the air. Fear tries to get out of your grip.

If it got out, now, who knows what havoc it could wreck. It would certain hurt Abigail.

You don't like that idea.

You turn and face Fear. It shrinks away from you in terror.

Your aura increases in intensity, and your shadowy grip crushes it down into a corner like like a tin can. It won't be influencing this battle any further.

You glance back when there's a sudden silence.

The magic between the two Abigails reaches a critical mass. The air is still for a moment, and then a huge orange shockwave expands between them. The empress is hurled back against a column. She slams into it bodily, then slumps to the grass. Armored abigail is tossed back and is crushed once more into the pile of rubble.

You hear scraping and crumbling as she climbs free again. She emerges from underneath, one arm at a time. The teetering pile collapses behind her as she gets up on one knee. The empress slowly rises to her feat. Both of them are wheezing to get their breath back. Their gazes are still locked together.

You feel a sudden prescence of Spirit - powerful spirit - coming from the east, outside the castle. It feels...

...like Abigail?

Both of the Abigails have turned to face the oncoming magic. The empress looks at you. "Shadow, it's the Banshee! She must be launching an attack!"

<This is not a good time.>

The empress shakes her head. "That's an understatement."

"...hold it off," the other Abigail says. "Do your best to keep her busy. Maybe she'll talk with you."

"Not a bad idea." The empress lets out a painful sigh as she straightens. "You do that. I'll finish up here."

"-We'll- finish up here."

"That's if you live."

If it wasn't for the murderous expressions on their faces, you'd suspect they were enjoying the fight.

What do you do?

I'm late to the party, but I think we should still try the temerity route - but not by FORCING it on abigail, but asking her if she wants it.

Not for the people who like her, or the servant goers, but because we seriously owe her a pair of wings by now. she was all disappointed after adavan got his, and I'm fairly sure we promised her them when she was 'older'.

<I'll do so best I can,> you say. <I won't tolerate losing either of you. Good luck.>

Keeping Fear locked up tight, you fly up out of the demolished courtyard. Magic blasts resound from below you as the fight's brief interlude ends.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHcIbwQXZZ0

You wide above the walls of the palace. Around you is total chaos.

The countryside is ablaze. The fires rage from the river all the way to the farms - and it's new, because the smoke is barely starting to rise. A veritable army of dragons is crisscrossing the sky, blasting fire on everything.

Flocks of griffins, flying eyeballs, and a tangled collection of winged beasts are flying in formation to retaliate. When the sides finally meet, it's like watching a dozen huge airships begin a fight with Yi Fang's smaller flying fighters. Dragons are torn to pieces by mobs of wyrms and griffins. Beasts drop like flies, seared to ash by fire.

Three dragons sweep the plaza that leads up to the palace entrance from atop the cliffs with fire. You feel Abigail's presence there. You fly over quickly, trying to keep as far away from the conflicts as possible. You can't afford to get tied up at the moment.

You come to a halt at the main entrance, landing on top of Fear to remind him you're in control. A wide stone walkway stretches before you. At your back is the massive wooden door of the outer walls. The stones themselves still hold flickering dragon fire, though its dying fast.

A shadow emerges from the flames.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xrZ5-OZEM4

Abigail saunters out from the fire. She's different from the others. Her dress is sheer. Her hair is let loose, and there's a wild gleam in her eyes. Her teeth are filed to points.

She doesn't feel human.

"Shadow," she says. It's not the exciting greeting of the other two Abigails. Her voice is deep and measured. "I'm sad you didn't come visit me already, but you do have the graciousness to greet me personally."

<...the other two are sorting things out. I thought you might want to talk.>

"With you? I want to do more than -talk-." The Banshee waltzes forward slowly, confidently, as if she has all the time in the world. Her eyes flick to Fear. "Get over here."

Suddenly, Fear is next to her. Your Bind falls slack, and vanishes. You're shocked. How did she do that? Maybe...like the others, she can bend this vision. She seems a bit more aggressive about it.

Abigail slowly pets Fear, then scratches it under the chin. Her face turns ugly. "Now leave, and don't come back until I tell you."

Fear goes up like a dry tinder, burning in green flame. The hot air from the dragon fire behind Abigail sweeps the smoke toward you. It's pungent, sickly sweet.

The Banshee straightens and continues forward. Her eyes are locked on you.

What do you do?

There's a lot of people vying for different trees, whether for the bonuses, operation hydra, or just to work on previously unexplored trees; plus there is quite a few people who want to get Tao, Pocket,or work towards Eclipse in the Shadow Magic tree and if they actually banded together on their votes to work on that tree over arguing for a specific skill in it they may actually be able to get to buy something there. Furthermore, it would also help make Shadow stronger in certain areas over stretching himself too thin throughout. Any thoughts or complaints?

Well, its unclear what the archonium does with souls that DON'T emerge. I find it really, really freaky that we were able to eat a mind-illusionary dragon and get substance from it - it gave us six xp.
xp comes from living things
we ate a living thing.

But where did it come from? Did we gank a part of abby embodied in the dragon, and by extent, a portion of her soul? Was it a realer-than-normal part of the Archonium Experience(tm)? Was it a lost soul trapped in here, bent to nothing more than fuel for the archonium's tests?

In any case, I would have been in support of eating the archonium if we get out - so that this kind of shit can't happen again.
OR throwing fang into it, and being like 'Yeah, You've been the ruler of archonium FAR too long, its made you a giant dick. Maybe you should try to find the wizard that loved to race again, in there. Hint hint nudge nudge wink wink *throw*

Her Spirit magic, which is banshee-derived by fangs Humanization experiments, is a tie to the spirit/demon otherworlds. We need her.

Or at least that aspect of her to survive.

Whether or not she is dominant or in control is up for debate, but adavan asked us to make sure that specialness remains.

Actually, wouldn't it make mana pools MORE anathema to us if they were really Chaotic in nature?

Now that I'm thinking about it, it could be that mana itself is Orderly (which explains why we are unfazed by it, but mana pools are lethal to all other life, as well as how there can be "Shadow" mana pools), and the fact that there are Elementally corrupt flavors of mana is one of the "unnatural" things that drew Erebus to try and get rid of the blemish in the first place (much like how Spirit magic forms the formless energy of the Nether.)

Morals, then, are just inventions, devices created by the masses of the weak to try and check the power of the strong." Abigail gives a soft shrug. "I realized that I don't have to care about the values of those people. I can be different. I can take what I want...do what I want...and the hell with the rest."

She slips up behind you. She props her head on your shoulder and speaks softly into your ear. "...do you know what I want?"

<Yes,> you say. You turn to face her, taking a step back. She sighs in annoyance. <You want to be free. You don't want Fang's legacy thrust onto you. You just want to live how you want to live.>

"...that's true," she says. "But rather...I find that leadership might be a useful tool in achieving that goal." She begins to approach you again.

But this time, you're ready with something else - something guaranteed to make her pause. <I'm sorry, Abigail. I broke a promise I made to you.>

"...what?" she asks. She smiles. "Well...I might have to punish you for that. Depends on what it is, though."

<Do you remember when you asked me not to go in that room in your house?>

She closes her eyes. "...yes. That was...about my parents."

<I returned to Jacob's Field after the Kanians took it over,> you say. <I entered the room, and found your house's basement.>

"...my house did not have a basement."

<It did,> you say. <A secret chamber made by your father, Jen. I learned of your real heritage.>

"What heritage? What are you talking about?"

<You're part Banshee, Abigail,> you say. <Your mother was a product of an experiment conducted by your uncle - a demon given an artificial soul. A banshee, in fact. But your father fell in love with her, and they ran off to raise you in peace. You yourself...this part of you...is that essence of your mother.>

"I..." Abigail pauses for a long moment, taking it all in. And then she sighs, and shrugs. "You know...that explains my abilities. But it doesn't really make a difference. I am who I choose to be. I learned that from you. And I choose my own path."

She closes the gap to you in a flash. Her hands are on your shoulders. She inhales deeply, as if trying to suck in your aura. "Shadow...I want you to accompany me to the two others. They're weakened. This is my opportunity to assert myself. I want you at my side."

You firmly grasp her hands, and lower them to her sides. You shake your head. <...I promised the other two that I would let them work things out on their own. After they're done, we can all sit down and talk together. What you want is important. But I won't help you subjugate them.>

"...why isn't this working?!" she shouts.

You squint. <So...you -are- manipulating me.>

Abigail gives you a sultry smile. You remain stoic. When she sees that you won't budge, her expression slowly mutates into an ugly grimace. "...that's ok, Shadow. I'll just take what I want."

Just because we're stalling doesn't mean we have to lie back and take it.

We don't have to piledrive her into the dirt or anything like that, either, but considering the distorted worldview she's arrived at, she won't be placated by us just buying time. If she's going to advocate for the Temerity viewpoint, we should handle it similarly to how we handled Temerity: do some violence, and wait for Humanity to do its work. Humanity, in this case, being the two slightly more reasonable Abigails having their own fight in the castle.
>>
>>26416131
Delay, fight, just don't eat her, her power at the least needs to go back into the remaining one.

I'm actually slightly glad that Isolation broke, it gives us another chance to fix it with Humanity and balance out the New shards and old shards.
>>
>>26416131

It's an hour after dawn. You're fighting on the stone plaza in front of the palace, a flat and open space. The stones are ripped up somewhat from the power of her shriek, and the door to the palace behind you was pretty much vaporized.

Your 1d20 save was successful. Isolation took the blow for you. DC 18 for it not to break, though.

>I'm actually slightly glad that Isolation broke, it gives us another chance to fix it with Humanity and balance out the New shards and old shards.
We don't really need to fix Isolation with Humanity; you'll note that it's seemed perfectly content to sacrifice itself to protect us from things fairly regularly.

Pretty sure we already befriended Isolation enough just by virtue of bringing it along with us. though the double-crit that started this whole thing rolling probably has something to do with it.
>>
>>26416227
Broken means its unusable until its fixed.

The big problem comes when MULTIPLE shards are broken...
>>
Y'know, I'm finding it hard to swallow that we could tank a Demon Lord's magic, yet a Random Mook Banshee is somehow able to present a threat.

Not only that but she's a fucking reality warper here. The only thing that can take her down is another Abby.

>It's an hour after dawn. You're fighting on the stone plaza in front of the palace, a flat and open space. The stones are ripped up somewhat from the power of her shriek, and the door to the palace behind you was pretty much vaporized.

Earthforge cover and concealment, dodge like mad, use Shade to split her attention.

Summon and send wispbro to the empresses with a message "Stop wasting your energy fighting each other, the banshee is here for you BOTH, at once. Start cooperating."

>Y'know, I'm finding it hard to swallow that we could tank a Demon Lord's magic, yet a Random Mook Banshee is somehow able to present a threat.
The "Random Mook Banshee" is inside her own mental construct, which means her power level is proportional to her perception of her own ability.

Also the Demon Lord kind of kicked the shit out of us, so I'm not sure that's the best comparison anyway.

You don't know anything about Banshees in my setting.

Rough consensus: gonna go with dodge, then non-lethal counterattack if feasible.

You should have said, "If you wanted to know more about summons, you should have bought the summoning tree."
And then go "nyah nyah".
>>
>>26416419

will answer once next post out
>>
>>26416399

Quick question. When Demons are summoned, they aren't really 'summoned' are they? It's like someone's made a copy of the actual Demon still sitting in the Nether, right?

I seem to recall a character saying something like that.
>>
>>26416441

I was tempted but you'd just waste time asking Fang every conceivable detail about summons later anyway so w/e
>>
>>26416455
He told us that the demon is defined by the summoning circle/familiarly/imagination. There are no demons in the nether, the ones people are taught are "templates" for ease-of-use.
>>
>>26416458

I don't know why people haven't gone for the summoning tree at all.

Summons are one of the most powerful forces around, and everyone's going 'meh ghouls suck its not worth it'.

But seriously, Summoning 3 or something that makes high-tier summons not be able to refuse orders would make it all worthwhile
>>
Abigail leaps at you, covering the remaining distance in a blink. You barely Ink your body out of the way of her nails.

She's on you again in a flash, slashing again and again. Her claws are coated in a wreath of spirit magic. Every swipe leaves a trail of green light, as if she's cutting the air itself.

You flicker away, using your speed to your advantage. She takes one steps too many, and overbalances.

You dive in with a retaliatory strike. She manages to claw you at the same time, but you connect solidly. She's sent sprawling over the stone.

>you've taken 3 damage (78/81)

She gets back up. She growls a long breath. "...you're strong." She raises a hand. "Now you're -aren't-."

You stumble forward. You feel...weak. As if the strength suddenly vanished from you.

>you have lost all strength upgrades

<...she changed us,> says a voice. Temerity. <I will attempt to stop it next time. Be careful what you attack her with!>

Abigail lunges forward again.

>dodge
>magic attack
>earthforge the plaza to slow her down
>bind and shadow dominate
>some other strategy
>>
>>26416458
Lets just retroactively assume we have already did this during the many opportunities we have already had to do so.
>>
>>26416508
Hectate herself had problems with summons.

I don't want anything to do with the tricky bastards/
>>
>>26416511

>>
>>26416511
>earthforge the plaza to slow her down
maybe add a Harden to slow her down more.
>>
>>26416511

This is a really good time for Temerity to enforce some order.

Because this Abigail is in a DIRE need of a spanking.
>>
>>26416529
How about no. Shadow can't use this as IC information.
>>
>>26416508
Mostly because we've already focused on other areas and we don't want to spread ourselves too thin. I'm not totally against summon tree myself, but, while summons are one of the most powerful forces around, WE are also among the most powerful forces because of our investments in other trees.

Show her nothing unless we absolutely must. She'll try to take it away.
>>
>>26416511

Because Hecate could take three or four Demon Lords.

Hecate is more or less on par with the other Elemental Lords. We are more or less four times more powerful than any other lord. Thus, at full power we are roughly equivalent to 12 to 16 Demon Lords.

It's just not worth investing in, when we could be increasing out own personal power.
>>
>>26416565

Let's just avoid it for now, as you can't use it in-character anyway. We can talk about it with appropriate authorities later.
