Word to your birthing pod /tg/. I would like to discuss Soul Eater with you."What is the Soul Eater? Is it one of those Japanese Animes?" you say? First off; it was a manga first and you can read it here http://www.mangareader.net/157/soul-eater.html (p.s. it reads right to left) Second ; if you don't want to read no backwards comics you can watch the anime here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0nxQXTdu9cNow, the setting of Soul Eater is PQ. It's kinda like our world, but with humans that can turn into weapons and the kitchen sink of Gothic Horror goodies with some Lovecraftian influences spread throughout. Now, if that hasn't caught your interest; it's kinda like if Harry Potter had a baby with Bleach and that baby was raised by Nightmare Before Christmas. It also has Maka (pictured in the foreground) It's good. Trust me.With the introduction done, lets talk Soul Eater.
>>26222942Sure, OP.Black Star is best shibusen
>>26223170Yessss. He will become bigger than God! So boss.
Dang, /tg/ is running fast tonight.Anybody care to speculate what will happen to Spartoi post defeating Ashura?Am I the only one to think that Medusa ain't deaddead yet?
>>26223592The series feels like it's ending.
>>26224196Yup. 1 chapter left. And I don't entirely know how to deal with it.
crazy maka bump
are they still releasing chapters monthly? i hope there is still a dedicated translator group
>>26224475>>26224271oh shit. i feel like they can keep going with the " Eight Powerful Warriors"
>>26224475yes http://reader.vortex-scans.com/reader/series/soul_eater/ does more recent stuff, and the link in the opening post has the older stuff.
>>26224475Pretty shitty manga
>>26224598Didn't mean to quote
>>26224557Oh man how would love that. But the author, Atsushi Okubo, hasn't said anything on doing more Soul Eater. I don't even know how much more Soul Eater NOT he is scheduled to do.
>>26224271Wait, really? Who said there's one chapter left?
>>26224952http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-06-06/soul-eater-manga-to-end-in-2-more-chaptersBest evidence i gots for you. I'm basically just parroting what i've heard in the past weeks.
Soul Eater is really cool and I really want to work out how to do an RPG set in that world where the PCs can play meisters/weapons, but the issue is 'what does the weapon do in combat' keeps coming up and I'm not sure how to handle it.
>>26225176Simple. No PC weapons. It does ruin late game potential, but allows for low level groups to not have to deal with 50% of the party being "pure support".
Be amazed as I fix my biggest issue with Soul Eater in 30 seconds using Photoshop.
>>26225287That is actually a radically different face.Atsushi's faces in the beginning were awful, they looked like they were melting.
I just want to mention>using a scythe as a weaponUnless it looks something like this, I shiggy.
>>26225414Don't remind me of early Soul Eater. Just, uh.
>>26225437You object to that, but not to a dude using a pair of 92FSes UPSIDE DOWN?
Easily has some of the most obnoxious characters. If you're eleven you may enjoy the WHACKY OCD BADASS or LE BEING NINJA BUT NOT BEING SNEAKY XDD
>>26225474That isn't half the images in this thread, anon.
>>26225437unmodified for war scythes saw a lot of peasant use because it was a blade on hand.stop being a spergian faggot who forgets that the real world has never been as pragmatic and preplanned as your hardon wishes it was.
>>26225437I mostly agree. At least it become more axe-like occasionally. Also, scythe are cool and symbolic. Not practical, but look at Kid and his guns akimbo. Soul Eater ain't realistic.
What system would you run this in, my money's on fate, just because shenanigans you can have if your weapons have aspects
How would a Soul Eater table-top play? Meisters and weapons with sanity meters?
>>26225568Sanity meters are a must. But you must also have a MADNESS meter, because in Soul Eater it isn't a sliding scale. Madness is a power and you can be totally sane and completely MAD. Like Maka, sometimes.
>>26225259>No PC weaponsBut what if I wanna play a Swiss Saber?
>>26225534No, not really.Converting it was like a 5 minute job at a blacksmith, which any self-respecting peasant uprising had. So yes, it was better than nothing, but if you did anything but run off straight from the field into a fight, you could easily make it much better than better than nothing.
>>26225557>mfw that thread died
>>26225687It lives on in our hearts and the archives forever.
>>26225670Also I forgot my image.Which isn't a scythe, but it looks sexy and I'm kind of drunk and I've got Yes playing and it's a little after midnight so whatever.
I love the anime so far, FOOL!
>>26225668Impressive. Well, Weaspons could control how 'intense' they are going. Like 'augmented weapon' 'normal weapon' (the mifune fight is an example of this). Assisting in stratagem. Possibly adding skill/damage.
I remember trying to make a race that worked kinda like the Weapon people did for D&D a while back. The stats changed completely depending on the weapon they turned into, which was determined by a set of 2 rolls. One for weapon type (Polearm, Sword, Double, Bow, Sling, etc.), one for actual weapon. It was... Difficult to handle, to say the least. It also made me add a new mechanic, which was the Wavelength, which was determined by a single d% roll at character creation. I worked it like this.1. If your wavelength is within 10 points of another non-Weapon character's wavelength, they can wield you as a weapon.2. If your wavelength is within 5 points of another non-Weapon character's wavelength, they can wield you and unlock (Witch-hunter, Shadowstar, Death Cannon, whatever fit best with the weapon. Some of them I had to make up as I went along.)3. If your wavelength is within 2 points of another non-Weapon character, they can wield you, use "Witch Hunter" or "Genie Hunter (Or Shieldstar, some other bullshit made for other weapons, whatever.).4. If you and another non-Weapon character share a Wavelength, the non-Weapon character can wield you, use "Witch Hunter", "Genie Hunter", and "Kishin Hunter" (Or Enchanted Sword Mode. Or that ultimate Death Cannon thing. Or whatever I decided would work for a mace, quarterstaff, dagger, or whatever the fuck weapon you turn into.)I scrapped the idea after a while. It just wasn't working as well as I'd hoped.
>>26225668Maybe it should just be "Only one player per Meister/Weapon pair", with the player controlling both halves of the duo during combat, but only their character outside of it?Personally if I was gonna be a Weapon I'd go with a Svardstav.
>>26225826MY LEGEND DATES BACK TO THE 12TH CENTURY!

Since we're on the topic of anime...Has /tg/ ever had Legend of The Galactic Heroes threads? That would be an interesting setting
>>26226093But Battletech already covers space politics.

>>26223228People... Like... BLACKSTAR?!HOW?! (if this is sarcasm my apologies. I've watched the entire series and read some of the manga but haven't touched the fanbase)
>>26226127It also works for the 14th century.
>>26226617Did you read the 3rd Mifune fight by chance? It's more or less the point where he went from Naruto-knockoff to, well having character.
>>26226617Short answer? He's amusing. And far less annoying in the manga, as he starts developing a real character other than just being a shallow spoof of a certain spiky-haired jumpsuit-wearer.Plus, Black*Star screentime means Best Weapon screentime.
>>26225778Aw sweet, which album/song?Sage for off-topic
>>26226738Relayer, but now I'm on to Close to the Edge. The entire album, not just the songs.
>>26226715That's not how you spell 'Spirit'. Tsubaki is fine too.
>>26226673I must say I have not read that. But if it's like in the anime where he just goes "IM CHOOZE OWN SPECSHUL PATH!!!1!" then I don't think my opinion would change much.
>>26226767Tsubaki is so fine that she remains fine even when she's a he.
>>26226757Nice. Best way to listen to prog.
>>26226834>Only proper way to listen to prog.ftfy
>>26226673Mifune is my favorite. He's the only guy who has a 'strong soul' marking him unique among the cast and he wields a shit-ton of katanas. Kills bad guys and doesn't afraid of anything.
>>26226823I would let him fuck my ass. No homo.
>>26226819In hopes you go back to reading, look at this.
>>26226823But who doesn't?
Okay question for you guys who've been keeping up. Is Crona 100% confirmed dead? Because I honestly don't think I can deal with that. It's just so... unfair. I'm used to horrible undeserved deaths in my animu, but I think this is a new bar to be surpassed in terms of sheer "shit's not fair fuck".
>>26226850Shit son, if it's something like The Yes Album, with more conventional songs, listening to them as singles is okay. Or if it's full-pretentious like Tales, taking a break is fine. Really I'd suggesting listening to them all as full albums at least once, but it's really up to you. Although I will say that Relayer is kind of obviously supposed to be taken as a whole.
>>26226933Oh... So he actually learns for once... Oh wow.I... Don't know how I feel about this. For months now he's been my number one most hated character in any work of fiction but now...I must go and read. Thank you friend.
>>26226964"That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange aeons even death may die."Don't read this if you aren't up to chapter 111 yet! Crona is gonna become the next kishin.
>>26227048Glad to be of service!
>>26227055Is Crona male or female?
>>26226981Off topic, but has anyone here tried discussing prog on /mu/? I've heard nothing but bad things about pretension from that board, and I know In the Court of the Crimson King is supposedly one of their top albums so I'd think it would be right up their alley. But whenever I go there, it seems like nothing but metal and indie pseudo-pop.Plus, the general hatred of "dadrock" I've seen all over this website.
>>26227105Also, doesn't matter.
>>26227134>"dadrock"Okay, I'm not much of a music guy, could you explain what the fuck that's supposed to mean? Is it just an obnoxious asshole way of saying "Anything from before I was born"?
>>26227180Basically it's just a term for music that's considered good not on its own merits, but because it was praised by a previous generation. Music you only call good because your parents called it good, not because you actually thought it was good initially.
>>26227134Fucked if I know.I'm kinda sorta exactly the dadrock lover they hate, so I avoid /mu/ like the plague, and continue to enjoy the music I like. I remember the one time I was over there that I didn't regret, I explained how Stairway to Heaven was trying to equate Tolkienesque fantasy and rock.
Please tell me /tg/ is making a Soul Eater homebrew
>>26227195Autism-chan is really making the derpiest face in that still.
>>26227214Not in this thread at least. I'd like that though. Probbaly should have mentioned that in the OP.
>>26227209So it's basically "This music is old and used to be popular, you like it, therefore you cannot possibly like it on it's own merits and I shall look down upon you because I am an arrogant douche"?
>>26227240So would I. Pity I'm busy. That and I still haven't caught up on the manga.
>>26227212Really? Do you remember what your argument was?If you don't mind and you remember, could you share?
>>26227271Not that guy but /mu/ is a pretty shitty board.
>>26227240Kinda questioning how this is /tg/ related then.
>>26227271Basically. Welcome to the /mu/ mindset.
>>26227299Inspiration maybe? It's got a pretty unique setting after all.
>>26227116>>26227119>>26227153So can I imagine Crona has a huge beastly cock under that nun outfit, and I wouldn't be necessarily wrong?
>>26227322but you wouldn't be Right either
>>26227322>>26227344Think of it as Schrodinger's Cock
>>26227344If huge trap cocks are wrong, I dont want to be right.
>>26227322It's a mystery.>>26227299Setting. And I did mention I forgot to mention that I wanted to start a homebrew in the OP.
>>26227299>>26227314A few people were discussing their attempted homebrews and theoretical homebrews earlier in the thread. On that note, should players be allowed to play witches, and would witch be a class, NPC race that grants spell-like and supernatural abilities, or a racial class like 4E vampirism?
>>26227379Racial, magic is genetic. The only way to acquire it is like Free did.
>>26227344wait... wut? hermaphrodite? Because that would be cool.
>>26227379Gotta say racial. You gots it or you don't. Or you steals it ala Free.
>>26227398No one knows. Last I heard the creator isn't planning on revealing it either.
>>26227398one could argue chrona is a male/female/futa/hemaphrodite but without word of god everything is both true and false
>>26227287Well it was kinda a central conceit of the album, what with the song right before it being http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGAKeHQUx-Uand the song after being Misty Mountain Hop. So there was obviously a fantasy inspiration for a large amount of the album. And uh, something about the fanfare before the guitar solo. That's my favorite part, by the way. and the slow transition from acoustic to a more... "conventional" sound, along with the lyrics both hearkening to fairytales and talking of modern things...Anyways, as I said before, it's late and I'm drunk, although a lot less drunk. I think there's someone who explains it better than I did even when I was sober somewhere on the innanet.
>>26227377they are not wrong but in this setting they could be there or not. so yea you could imagine him/her having a huge pulsating cock.
>>26227455Indeed, it can be what you want it to be. ~IMAGINAATION~
>>26227441Sssssssh, sssssssh. Embrace the pain.>>26227322
>>26227442Thank you anon! I hope you will share one day when you're not quite so tipsy.>>26227397>>26227421Right then. How much power should it confer? Should it be a PC race, need level adjustment? How would stealing magic function to make it not OP?
>>26227508I think a supernatural ghosts n shit race like that could be pretty cool. I like ghost stories and stuff (I don't believe them but find them interesting), which is one of the reasons I liked Geist: The Sin Eaters so much.Speaking of which, Geist has some similarities to this show.
>>26227508well the only example was by taking the eye of a witch, so I guess having the organ of a witch gives you magical properties.
>>26227494Ah, left the link out.http://imgur.com/sfqUbtaNSFW
>>26227508Aquiring it at least would require an unique artifact level magical 'thingy' determined by the GM. Be it body parts or crystal implants or whatevs.
>>26227508Well, if you have people roleplaying its not that much of an issue, should probably have a level-adjustment anyway. probably +1, because of social stigmas, probably a non-PC race unless they take.
>>26227536Well...that is...excuse me for a moment.
>>26227536DAMNIT BLACKHEART! I KNEW YOU WERE GONNA POST THAT! It's fine, whatevs, I just don't want this thread deleted too soon.
cool a soul eater threadhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1IWuW8KKJs
>>26227572I'm sorry, but your bunk is in for maintenance.>>26227589He didn't actually post it so I think its safe.
>>26227589Hence why I linked to it like a good, law abiding citizen of a virtuous and moral blue board! Haw haw!
>>26227621I don't understand the point of blue-boards when hyper lewd advertisements and banners are allowed throughout the site. Seriously, it's not like 4chan is exactly something you'd want to be browsing at work anyway.
>>26227688That's something I was thinking about since you should be on 4chan in a work environment, and you must be 18 to use.
Alright, serious-ish homebrew mode.Important mechanics for a SE homebrew:1. Insanity/Madness2. Witches3. Combat, hopefully awesome and/or fluid4. Soul Resonance5a. Weapons5b. Miesters
I very much enjoy Soul Eater. I'll e ven admit it has a lot of potential as a homebrew. Problem is, it would be a clusterfuck and a half trying to shoehorn it into even the most flexible systems. That said, I'd love to play a competitive campaign. Start at the academy, first player to make a death scythe wins. Shinanegans ensue. Throw in some recurring bad guys and a few psuedo-plots, and you have a great game. Even the GM gets to have fun thinking up new fairytale/gothic baddies to introduce.
>>26227688From what I understand the issue is that porn draws interest, interest draws people, people might not be interested in anything else the board have and this is bad. Another is shitposting, because clearly, you cant shitpost without porn. But whatever, I dont really care eitherway, and this is a /q/ sort of question.
>>26227836huh, didn't think of that.>>26227809Lets get started
>>26227809Well first we have to note that "all people have madness inside them", so that would likely have to be something that increases and decreases with events.
>>26227809Due to the over the top nature of combat in the series, I think something similar to wushu would work well. The more in depth you describe your actions, the better chance you have of pulling it off.
>>26227857I'm thinking D6 heavy with D100 for stuff like madness/sanity.>>26227895Yes. But how much before they crack? Can they tap it for energy?>>26227943Hmmm, mite b cool. A bit like WoD-ish?
>>262278091. There are many systems for this, but we might need to think of something new because madness is usually a negative thing, rather than a trade off for power that (usually) doesn't make you any less combat effective (and probably makes you moreso)2. So far we have that they should be a race and that their power should be able to be stolen, but only with high level magic. Player witches have not yet been figured out, but >>26227556had some ideas so we can start from there.3. No ideas yet, except those that tie into weapon/meister.4. >>26225886Had a system but said it was better in theory than in practice, but maybe we could work something out with it since it's a cool premise.5(ab). The main problem here is control. Obviously players should control a meister, but whether the weapons are players, DMPCs, or secondary player-controlled characters is still up for debate.
>>26227921YOU GAVE ME A SCRIPT WITH BONERS IN IT!
>>26227943If we use a mat, there should be a lot of focus on movement and positioning>>26227966That's the question. Maybe if we do a straight percentage, and reaching 100% makes you lose control?
>>26227966well, for how much, we could run through the series and try and quantify their insanity. As for d6 heavy I like as d6 is the most common
>>26225507This, seriously. The blonde girl & the scythe guy were okay. The other two pairs were unbearable.
>>26227809Should Soul Resonance be something decided once, something that can be affected in scenes, something you roll with each attack? There are a lot of ways to interpret it.
>>26228040I think it should be an advanced combat maneuver that takes up some kind of points, and you need to succeed at doing, but should be rather potent
>>26228009>>26225507Then why are you in a soul eater thread???
>>26228009What've you got against symmetry anon?In all seriousness though, Death the Kid had some annoying qualities but he was a pretty solid and idealistic character (at least later on). Plus, considering how he's the son of the primal incarnation of Death I'd sorta be disappointed if he didn't seem alien and borderline mentally ill from a human perspective.
>>26228107Pic didn't work
>>26227977THESE ARE DICK JOKES AREN'T THEY?!
>>26228082If we look at it like that, those points would likely be spell charges. Used for advanced attacks, healing, etc. But then, what about moves that project your soul wavelength like Black Star Big Wave?
>>26228082Hmmm, maybe after being 'unlocked' its a battle maneuver-thing. Later stronger pairs can 'maintain' it for longer periods of time.
/tg/: Anime and Manga.
>>26228132It's probably better that we have it be a number of points you raise with levels, and they allow you to roll a special ability. For example: Spend one point to activate With Hunter. If you roll high enough, the move works.
>>26228160>4chan: Anime and Manga
>>26228124>>26228132hmmm. well moves like the big wave are less taxing than soul resonance>>26228179it'd would take more than one point, either that or soul wavelength attack a la Stein and Black Star would cost fractional points.
>>26227998San check, roll, higher or lower than target, go insane or tap into maddness improving combat?
>>26228219Fair enough, I was just using that as an example. We'd need lots of different techniques that require different levels of resonance, and Witch Hunter wouldn't probably be a low level one. But Big Wave doesn't actually use soul resonance, which is why maybe we should divide moves into Weapon and Meister techniques.
>>26228242lower than, both. plus the different kinds of insanity, like death being the insanity of order or whatever
>>26228160Usually /tg/ has good taste with that shit, except when it doesn't.But hey, this place got me to watch The Big O, so that makes up for all the fate/stay night garbage, the Strike Witches bullshit, the girl und pa... wait.No it doesn't.
>>26228242Tapping into madness should have a negative effect that discourages long term or repeated use. Maybe it's boosts your stats for the encounter but weakens you increasingly the more you use it without resetting the counter?
>>26228242Damn, Stein was done really well. I've suffered through some pretty major mental sickness (hallucinations, extreme paranoia, loss of compassion) myself and he sorta reminds me of myself in some ways. It's... Unsettling to say the least.
>>26228296go read Drifters, watch Hellsing: Ultimate and Legend of the Galactic Heroes and read Dogs: Bullets and Carnage, might make up for your percieved slight, and I'm sorry you didn't enjoy what we recommended
>>26228310hmmm. what about the synergy?synch ratio? whatever it was called from Double Cross, that went up when you used your powers, I'd look it up, but my copy is at home.
>>26228296>>26228375Just remember to not watch later episodes of Hellsing around anyone you might want to be friends with. That goes double for discussion.
>>26228326Stien is a paragon of knowing how to insane in a sane way.>>26228310>>26228292Sanity stat, degrades with more uses of Madness. Madness increases when Sanity drops. The lower the San, the harder to return from madness?
>>26228436That could work. But obviously all characters can't start out with the same sanity, so something has to determine it. And is that all it affects?
>>26228375I think I'm just going to go down a "must see media" list. You have to slog through much less crap.I mean fuck, I still haven't seen Brazil, or A Clockwork Orange. I just saw Fight Club last month. What the fuck.
>>26228428If they can't appreciate a woman having her head ground down against a wall until there's nothing but an ear and a flap of skin left as payback for killing the guy the one doing the grinding is in love with, they aren't worth being friends with.
>>26228461I was referring more to the various -philias.I don't think it's possible to not appreciate late-series Seras

>>26228436the double cross thing is <power increase thing> <thing above a certain number? MOAR DICE><Have over X at end of session? You retire your dude as he goes insane and uses his awesome powers to kill everyone or is killed by other PCs>
>>26228457Slap 'Casablanca' and 'Dark City' on that list and it looks solid. If you haven't watched them already that is.>>26228455Starting San/Mad is different for different people.
>>26228497Yes but what determines it? If we aren't doing a class based system then something else has to. And is it worth investing less ability points in sanity for strength or speed, when a bad roll could leave you ruined?
>>26228457>a clockwork orangeBe absolutely certain before you watch this. It will be permanently seared into your brained after watching it.
>>26228508hmm. How many kinds of insanity are we going for? and How are they different?
>>26228491Hehe! I like. X being variable for different peeps and can decrease/grow/regen?>>26228508I was thinking a stat system Call of Cthulhu-ish: get stats and then skills/features.>>26228530Singing in the rain doesn't make me cringe any more.
>>26228587at the end of every session you get a roll to reduce your whatever ratio, you can double the dice you roll, but earn less xp, and/or roll those bastards twice, but get no xp. I only got the book recently so am about 60% on my memory, If I had the book I'd quote shit but I can't, sorry
>>26228587Maybe we could make sanity a defense stat? Derive it from will, and have enemies roll against it?
>>26228637I don't think you should draw power from your defense stat. Also, Black Blood, y/n?
>>26228734Maybe. What if it's an (incredibly unconventional) magic item? Like a (3.5) graft in terms of how it works?
>>26228756It'd have to be pretty high level considering it's effects. Likely you would have to get all the way to Deathscythe for it to be fair use.
>>26228631"Do you like your character or do you want him stronger?" Also like.>>26228637Hmmm, and your mental defenses would decrease with your sanity. >>26228756The problem is, only Chrona and Soul iirc have it and it was made by Medusa, then the Lord British Postulate kicks in
>>26228793the odd way the game works is PLAYERS and THE GM get experience not characters so it may not work
>>26228793I get home at 2, but I dunno when I'll have time to sit down. I'm super interested in this homebrew though. Really hyped.
>>26228793hmm. my connection is nonexistant after about 3 tomorrow til about 3 o clock monday so I may not be present unless I go out to the librarium.
>>26228775Perhaps, but perhaps not. The fact that it can do pretty messed up things to your mind AND take total control over your physical/mental form are pretty big drawbacks. Maybe it should be available relatively early, and simply be a REALLY bad idea until high level?

>>26228842Perhaps taking is as a feat or something. You can take extra feats to strengthen it's effects, but doing so puts you at a greater risk.

>>26224952The latest chapter outright says at the end that the next one is the final
A not game-related question, coming through. Is anime good up to some point from which I can continue on reading the manga or is it just full of non-canon filler like Fullmetal Alchemist original series? It was pretty cool filler, but manga is easily superior
>>26231118I believe that's mentioned up-thread anon
>>26228107I agree with that logic regarding Kid alone, but the problem is that ol' Lord Death isn't yet more alien and insane-seeming.Unless that's different in the manga, I've only seen the anime. Reading the manga is something I've been meaning to do forever.
To keep this more /tg/ related, I inadvertently once made a character with a super power similar to Medusa's, speed-related arrows and all. Still, I'm pretty sure my guy can take her, because if you have a Stand, you usually tend to be a very tactical fighter.
>>26230968your gallery is pining for the fjords anon
>>26231118The first half follows the manga and is the best, the second half was made up by the show writers for the most part and is still worth watching if you really liked the first half. So yeah, it's kinda like the first FMA, except I don't think that had such a hard cut-off point between full-cannon and then entirely off the rails. That said, I keep hoping and hoping that Soul Eater gets the equivalent of FMA Brotherhood. It's my number one anime wish.
>>26231177how'd you manage that. Also the thread is /tg/ related, all pnp homebrews are.
>>26231129But there are probably spoilers up there ;_;
>>26230591I don't know about no other answer, but there is certainly no other personal preference.

>>26231118Watch up to the Battle for Brew.It stays fairly on the rails until then.
>>26231137It's sort of...Death forces himself to be human. And he's had a lot of experience with it.When he stops bothering? It gets scary. Fast.
I'm off. See you round folks
>>26225716I think I saved one of the best ones...
>>26231218Warning: The ending is rather disapointing, though.
>>26231934Are you talking about how he used to look scarier, or more serious differences? Also I really thought it was neat how he intentionally changed his appearance to not scare people. I love the idea of not evil or straight-up good types who just happen to look evil and scary. If my superhero fantasies ever came true, I'd be the freaky wraith made of shifting elemental darkness who gets kittens out of trees and that sort of thing. And no angsty stuff either.
>>26231218Yeah, what >>26232011 said. The last few episodes range from mediocre to good, with the final episode itself being a steaming pile of garbage. You'll watch it anyway, we're just pre-warning you.
>>26232030The more serious stuff is implied. Sadly, there's simply not a lot around on Death. But, watch not just the way he looks, but how he acts when the mask comes off. There's a big change. Not enough to confirm there's major personality differences, but enough to get the thought going.
>>26232030Death's an eldritch abomination who, upon defeating one of Death's rebellious subjects, drained him of his blood, tore off his skin, trapped his flayed bloodless body within a bag made of HIS OWN SKIN, and then removed Death's own soul to pin this thing in place. And the moment the guy revives, Death tries to kill him for good, implying he could've done it anytime before if he hadn't wanted so dramatic a torture.Lord Death is fucking horrifying when he's not trying to not be.Not to mention his ongoing attempted genocide of the Witch race because they don't fit in with his order.
>>26232110Heroes who put the law down HARD on evil are the best kinds.I agree about him being overly harsh toward witches though. Killing them because they're evil, fine. Because they're witches, not so much. Destroy all evil, but keep it to evil, not associated aspects.
>>26232110Well I have to read this now.
This looks really gay and lame. Also why is the main character an effete, skinny-limbed bitch?
>>26232257>skinny-limbedPfft. You haven't seen her fat ankles.
>>26232269No, the mallgoth faggot with stripey hair.
>>26232257Back in my day, trolling meant something. Also, second on the fat ankles.
>>26232280Kidd? He's a secondary protagonist, not primary.
>>26232288To be fair, before I knew anything about Soul Eater, I saw some images and just assumed Kid was the primary protagonist.Wasn't until just recently when I started watching it that I realized that Maka and Soul were the main characters.
>>26232398Yeah, I can totally see that happening.
>>26232169He does it because he is the madness of order, where the Kishin is the madness of fear
Man I came up with so many ideas today, it's a miracle I had time to get work done. First of all I came up with some rough ideas for chargen, including two sets of combat stats. I also came up with some ideas of how we could do two character combat. It seems that this will probably have to be a combat centered game, since roleplaying two people AND having fun and dramatic combat is hard.
>>26239977But isn't it the goal of Meisters to collect the souls of 99 Kishin Eggs, and a Witch? Sounds pretty combat intensive to me.
>>26240057Which brings me to that. Obviously the only solution to Kishin Eggs is to make them EXP. 5 to a level. And a Witch Soul to reach cap. That means a level cap of 20. We can have that be a shared meter for teams, or we can have weapons do that while Meisters do normal EXP
>>26240137From the source its a very classless affair, mainly seeking improvement with no path, so however we deterine experience/increases in power every option is most likely going to be available to everyone
I'm back early and I'm glad to see the thread is still here.>>26230053>>26230138Hmmmm. HHHMMMMMMM. I dunno about d20 based, but there is a lot of love in this. I'm probbly gonna be assecing this for a while. Thanks for contributan!>>26232110That's our Lord Death! Protector of Humanity! I hope Kid does a good job when he takes over.>>26232169Kishin eggs is a term only used in the anime. Lord Death could deem anyone 'unworty of living' and put a bounty on their head to be hunter down buy legally trained assassins. STILL THE BESTMore Homebrewing?
Welcome to Soul Eater AU the MMO.Seriously...Illuminati = Witches, Power over everything else, making deals with devils and incriminating photo's of angels. Do or get Done.Templar = DWMA. Everything must be kept in order, yes we can work together but step out of line and your dead.Dragon = Medusa/Crona/Kishin. Send the world in Chaos, be the one to pick up the pieces and then throw them in the air again.
>>26240191I'm fine with that. The only "class" thing I was thinking is weapon type. I was thinking melee weapons, range weapons, and magic. That would allow for a balanced team aesthetic.
>>26240221of course, although, a couple hours from now I gotta jump for a while, I'll probably be back after
>>26239977For stats I was thinking normal stuff for the most part. Strength, Agility, Constitution, Intelligence, and finally Sanity and Wavelength. I had some pretty cool ideas of how to work wavelength in.
>>26239977This is true. But roleplaying is a vital component that can surround the combat without hindering. Spill the bean meng, rough ideas can be hammered into sharp pointed objects.>>26240291Cool cool, I'm basicaly just reading >>26230138 While waiting for moar peeps. Did say 9pm PST so I'm assuming more people will come at that time.
>>26240453Stats would be Str/Con/Agi/Int/San(ity)/Wav(elengthThey would be printed twice, once for Meister and once for Weapon. The difference comes into play with combat stats. Meisters would have defenses, Toughness, Sanity, Dodge, and Parry. Then they would use Str and Agi for attacks, Wav for abilities. Weapons would have combat stats too, but they'd be Sharpness for damage, and Durability to take the pain from being used to block attacks. Dodging an attack would mean you have to save against fatigue, and failing the save gives you fatigue counters. The more you get, the worse you are in the fight, meaning you don't want to drag them out if you can avoid it. If you parry it with your weapon, it has to save, which means it's even riskier to keep fights going long. The thing is, it only makes sense that weapons can switch back and forth between forms in battle, but doing so allows for a lot of nuance. We can make feats for being able to partially transform, being able to transform quickly, and stuff like that. I should actually probably organize this into seperate posts, but I don't know how to exactly.
>>26240606Dodge: Derived from agility. When a range attack is made against you, it targets your dodge defense. Taking the hit does damage and applies normal effects. Dodging attacks allows you to move into a space outside the area of effect, but will force you to save against fatigue. Failing the save will increase your fatigue by one point, and upon accumulating points your defenses may suffer, as well as your damage, speed, and ability to match wavelengths.
>>26240606I remember this analogy happened in the anime, and I think the manga, but isn't using a weapo like using an amp for your wavelength?
>>26240678Parry: Derived from weapon Durability. When a physical attack is made against you, it targets your Parry defense. Taking the hit does damage and applies normal effects. Parrying the attack avoids damage, but forces your weapon partner to save against durability damage. If the save fails, your weapon partner accumulates fatigue. Too much fatigue will lower your weapon's sharpness, and may even force him out of his/her transformed state. At this point, you will be forced to rely on your own physical ability, or the generosity of your squadmates with their weapons, and your own ability to match wavelengths with an unfamiliar weapon.
alright, who would winWhatever that demons name is in Soul Eater or Yawgmoth?
>>26240746Yes, but I'm trying to make weapons a more integral part of the game.
>>26240777well, each weapon amplifies the meister differently and to different degrees, I'm just wondering should combat damage be derived from a combination of Wav and Str? or just Str?
>>26225287Soul Eater has awful noses, there's nothing to be done about them.
>>26240798I was thinking that the attack roll is from the meister, and the damage comes from the weapon. We can have abilities be derived from Wav.
>>26240606Yes! I like how you incorporated Weapons as being more than Weapon form.>>26240678Hurm. Degrading combat effectiveness. Making tough scary fights scarier as they get longer.>>26240746In both they did.>>26240765Oh~ More making the Weapon work.>>26240768It's 'Ashura' by the way. And I'd have to say Yawgmoth; ol' Yawgy wasn't beaten by 3 high schoolers with magic weapons., also, wizards just rule.>>26240810It can't be helped.
>>26240828I can see that working, but it makes the problem of needing an even numbered group of people half of which are willing to weapons for other PC's, or have Players manage two-characters simultaneously
>>26240846welcome back I suppose, I don't know if I said that yet.
>>26240870That's the inherent problem with this subject. Somebody has to sit there and do nothing but roll for someone else's decisions. My idea? Just have the player roll for both, and leave it up to the group to decide who roleplays the weapon. It's a homebrew, it's allowed to be a little gritty. It adds character.
>>26240896Yeah that works.
>>26240226>tfw ded game
>>26240768let's see>someone who was beaten by a bunch of sharply dressed teenagers. Could also spread madnessor>Ruler of an entire plain of existence>a literal God>leads an army of Eldrich horrors>his mere presence kills millions>had to be killed by the 5000 years planning of the most powerful wizard of all time whom needed to sacrifice himself to kill himlooks like a tossup to me
>>26240765Strength: Determines melee attack success, and athletics rolls. Agility: Determines ranged attack success, Dodge defense, and speed.Constitution: Determines HP, Fortitude defense, and fatigue save bonus.Intelligence: Determines mental rolls such as history, medical, magic, etc.Sanity: Determines sanity defense, and bonus to sanity saves.Wavelength: 1) Increases the odds of you resonating with a weapon. Meaning a higher stat affords you a wider arsenal to draw from. 2) Increases the damage done by resonation abilities such as Witch Hunter, and Death Cannon.
>>26240975I can also see Yawgmoth being resistant to madness via phyresis and similar technologies, whereas I can't think of anything that would stop Ashura's flesh from being Compleated. That being said, if he was made Compleat he'd probably be at least a Praetor
>>26240768they'd probably become bros
>>26225507>WHACKY OCD BADASSDTK doesn't have OCD, he has OCPD.>>26225507>LE BEING NINJA BUT NOT BEING SNEAKY XDDYou DO know that Black Star is supposed to be a parody of Naruto, right?
>>26241030I have one problem, but its not something I know how to fix, brute strength doesn't help as much as dexterity/coordinatinon when trying to hit in close combat
>>26241107I agree. We could make melee attacks derive from Agility as well, but that means nobody would bother putting points into Strength.
>>26241121Still takes strength to put the force behind the hit. I see WAV as an amplifier of what you have, not what you work off. I may be contradicting myself here though
>>26226964Whoa! Spoiler that shit.
>>26241163But if we derive damage from Strength, then the weapon becomes a hunk of metal with no personality. Maybe we just don't use strength? And making damage/effect derive from Wav means people will build around a high Wav score, and we want to encourage diversity.
>>26241163What if there are classes/playstyles besides Meister that can use strength? Like legendary warriors (Mifune) and perhaps non-evil werewolves?
>>26241209Let's worry about figuring out the vanilla game before we get to stuff like that. But I like where you're going with this, it could work.
>>26241168GB2 http://www.mangareader.net/157/soul-eater.html YOU ASYMMETRICAL DUNKASS!
>>26241209I didn't see Free as evil, Lawful perhaps, as he's honoring his debts. Also, it would be kickass to play as Mifune, but lord british postulate and all that, that's why I'm conflicted on Black Blood
Was it ever confirmed that Excalibur is a Warlord?
>>26241291I think so, yes.
>>26241251I'm a firm believer that Black Blood shouldn't be a 'core' thing. Its kinda the grease in SE plot so explaining why Medusa this, Maka/Soul that seems silly. BUT some GMs would probbly want to know how to incorporate it, say if they interceting with the main plot or doing alt universe shenanigans. Core feature, no. GM tingymagigger, fine.
>>26241291Yeah.Excalibur is Rage while Ebon, Asura and Death are Knowledge, Terror and Order respectively.
>>26241251I don't really see him as evil either, and I should have phrased that differently. I mean, non-villainous werewolves.Speaking of which, do we know of any besides Free? Because if he's any representation of the race as a whole, then werewolves could function sort of as a LN psuedo-paladin class.
>>26241325I say we make it a feat that ranks. You have to have low sanity to take it, and each rank increases it's effectiveness.
>>26241291Implied like 2 times, but never stated.
>>26240941actually the game goet a 400% increase in players when it went F2P, if it keeps churning out patches, new content, and new ideas the game can get better.
>>26241337I think he might be the only one, as I can't remember any others being mentioned, but, they call him a werewolf so....>>26241325If its there at all, so is Medusa, Soul and co.Which means PC's are, eventually, going to try and kill them

>>26241360>>26241337Free is the last werewolf because Death exterminated them all like he's trying to do with the witches. And the only reason he's still alive is because he's immortal.

>>26241350>>26241360Freakin Black Blood making my fun hard.>>26241386We can't do that. We have to allow for multiple different scenarios.
>>26241407Fair enough. I'm taking that make pic by the way. I need it for my wall.
>>26241374still gives me a boner.
>>26241477It better.>>26241456Glad to be of assistance.
>>26241477>>26241456gentelmen, contain yourselves until class.
>>26241516Sensei, if Maka wasn't so kawai none of this would be a problem. I demand she wear a bag for the remainder of the semester, lest our studies be interrupted.
>>26241516It can't be helped. Maka is just that attractive.>>26241545FOOL. You can't hide beauty of that magnitude.
>>26241573>You can't hide beauty of that magnitude.is David Bowie here?
>>26241030Back to the subject at hand, does anyone have ideas for leveling? I had some potential ideas, and I'm trying to hammer out a way to do weapon abilities. Dual weilding, multiple forms, partial transformation, it's all stuff we need to work out. Also, we need rules governing the way weapons are created. We can't just let people decide that a wooden spoon has a sharpness of 20, when a scythe has a sharpness of 12.
>>26241545Not happening boyo>>26241636I would assume its got to do with devouring souls, also, how do we deal with people eating human souls and becoming Kishin eggs? Can the recover like Chrona? It kind of seemed like a once off with Chrona
>>26241679Like I said earlier, let's work on the vanilla game first. I was thinking meisters could get experience, and weapons could use Kishin Eggs to level. 5 eggs to a new ability, meaning a max of 20. And we need to decide things like dual weapon weilding from creation. Maybe a point buy system?
>>26241679In the manga at least, Crona's 'stash' was confiscated by Lord Death.
>>26241679Chrona did seem to be a special case, basically having no life.....I think a degree might be sociological thing? That people who live in cities and shit hear that the Reaper says eating souls is bad and anyone who does becomes a Kinshin and is killed....but I'm sure its more than that. Just my two cents.
>>26241730Could work. What do you mean by "point buy", They mention Dual-Wielding is really difficult as you have to resonate with 2 souls to do it. I think Kid can do it because he's the Son of Death, and Stein can do it because of how good he is with Soul Wavelengths but I don't recall anyone else being able to do it. Wait, were the pots of Fire and Thunder, two different spirits or one?
>>26241915They were two. And we could do it like that. Make dual wielding a feat that requires a high Wav score?
>>26241984It would have to, you can't fight with someone you don't resonate with see >>26241248 scene, Black Star can barely lift soul off of the ground. Also could a weapon fight on their own like soul did in that scene/Justin Law/Chainsaw Golem Man
>>26242061STRONK miesters like Stien can, So can weapons like Justin Law and Giriko.
>>26242152Are we going to allow PC's to be STRONK souls like Mifune?
>>26242171Possible but it should cost a shitton of XP.
>>26241359>it went F2PWHAT WHEN?!I'd been meaning to check it out, but am poorfag so subscription MMOs are kinda beyond my means.>>26242171As far as I know, it's never been explained how one even gets to be one in-setting. Is it something you become, or are you just born that way?
>>26242171I'd say no. Also, Mifune wasn't even a Miester! Mifune's 99 soul STRONK was kinda what made him unique. Mundanes on the other should be shied away from as they are woefoly weaker than Miesters and Weapons.
>>26242061We could have solo fighting require the partial transformation feat. >>26242152Of course Meisters can fight without weapons, that's the point of physical training. It just limits their capabilities.>>26242216We'd need to determine exactly what strong soul means. I don't think we should worry about making non-meister characters yet, but it's good to take notes.
>>26242218I would assume born
>>26242277I'm going to go dive into the wikia to find info on Strong Souls
>>26242296>It is unknown if an individual is born with a Strong Soul or if the specific type of Soul is something that is gained during further life. If it is true that Strong Souls are gained, then the process of obtaining one would more than likely revolve around how an individual lives his or her life. From what has been displayed in the Soul Eater series so far, this particular person will most likely be one of an extremely pure and flawless personality or background. Strictly following The Path Of The Warrior, for example, would serve as a perfect illustration as to what one may gain a Strong Soul from.Strong Souls normally appear as very large Human Souls. In addition to this, Strong Souls expand even further dependent on their possessor's level of strength and overall power. This can sometimes result in a Soul that looks abnormally and ridiculously large for a Human to have.Shit.
>>26242513So, what? A feat? Feats seem to be answering a lot of our problems.
>>26242535Maybe. Being a strong soul puts you on the level of a meister (or above) without the need for a weapon. I'm just wondering how to handle it mechanically
>>26242513If we really want to make non-meisters a vanilla class, there's quite a bit of extra work to do. And they would likely be the ones with strong souls.
>>26242598Its all about options, its why people play pnp's over /v/idya games, the choice. Its why I don't want to restrict people off being Strong Souls
>>26242627So we can let players take the Strong Soul class. That means we have two classes. And I really don't think we should allow people to play as Witches, at least not yet.
I hope Mifune is alive ;_;>>26242685I don't think so either, as if you play as a meister, you'd be (eventually) trying to hunt witches for Shibusen
>>26242711Witches will basically be Dragons. Big, tough, and not to be fought unless there's no escape.
>>26242806probably, seeing as they're how you reach end level abilities as a weapon.
>>26242806Oh. Problem. What are PC's going to do other than hunting Kishin Eggs? From memory all they do is go to class, train, occaisionally play baskeball for R&R, and hunt monsters
>>26242870Well that's up to the GM. Obviously the goal of the game is to collect souls, but that's like saying the goal of DnD is to gain experience.
>>26242944I'd say the goal of D&D is to do what you wanna do, be what you wanna be. Character driven and all that.
>>26242870Goof off with friends, have lessons, train, relax, deal with personal problems both in a combat and non-combat sense, study, investigate the BBEG. But a lot of it will be combat and murder, as suits it.
>>26243001Yeah, I figured we were building the game around combat. If we want to build it around roleplay, that's a whole other beast.
Idea for combat:-Make melee attack with weapon-Roll (Agi Mod)d6-Higher than enemies Parry = Hit-Roll (Str Mod)d6 + Weapon Sha(rpness)
>>26243029Most of the crunch will be around combat and the Wavelength and Sanity system.Out of combat stuff we really don't need as much focus on, though obviously the GM can adjudicate when your wavelength falls out of synch due to having some problems with each other.
>>26243071We could use an active defense system like GURPS. But y'know modified.
>>26243114I hate contested rolls. It wastes so much time, and often makes hitting a much harder feat to accomplish.
>>26242711For the love of Death, read the manga sometime in the future.>>26243081I like this a lot.I see SE games can have different flavors and directions. Most games will be Death Weapon Miester Academy students and/or faculty. These games could be very 'defeat the deamons, save the day', 'Working for Lord Death isn't all fun and games.', 'THOSE CIVILIANS WEREN'T CULTIST AND WERE UNARMED!' to 'No Johnny, you are the deamons.'Or on the flip side; PCs as Witches, Monsters and rogue Mietsers/Weapons. Going from running for you life, running a resistance cell, to all out war.
>>26243205I will dammit, I'm trying.
>>26243178I like the fatigue system, it means fights are a lot more dramatic. Having contested rolls clashes with it though, because it means if everyone happens to roll well by the end everyone is dead but nobody has landed a hit. And that fight would have taken 2 hours of time.>>26243205Yes, I agree. Not ruling too hard on roleplay means more freedom to tell the story. And again, let's not worry about PC Witches yet.
>>26243247How far are you ATM? Remember to spoiler that shenanigans.>>26243268Very very true. We need to focus on Weapons and Meisters that we are assuming going to Shibusen.
>>26243349I have watched the entire anime and mangawise I am up to the 4th chapter as I'm re-reading all of it. I am however aware of some stuff that happens later like everyone going into the book of Eibon, and Mifune dieing(maybe)
>>26243349Is anyone taking notes? Someone should probably be pasting them to a document for later review.
>>26243439well if this thread gets archived I'll go over it later and write all the stuff down in a book, but I can't do it right now
>>26243431'alright. Anime is sufficient.>>26243439I'm saving the entire thread at least
So far we have a rough stat system, some possible feats, rough combat. We still need chargen, leveling, and enemies.
>>26243800We're way into autosage man, bumping does nothing.
>>26243830What do we do now?
>>26243860People think about stuff, add meat onto ideas, and make a new thread in a bit.
>>26243860>>26243887I'll start at 00:00 like last time. Till then hang on a bit longer please.
>>26243887>>26243904Godspeed you glorious bastards
>>26243904Scratch that. Page 8. Woking on thread. Subject will be Soul Eater again
>>26243904how long until then?
>>26242218Well.. B2P, as in you gotta buy the game for like 20/40 dollars. But yeah early this year.
>>26244087>>26244087>>26244087Get in here!
