You are Princess Lydia Tannhäuser Von Cygnus Gates the third, second in line of succession to the throne, duchess of Tannhäuser, and executive director of the Royal Rocketry Corps of Midland. It's the new year and things have been progressing smoothly since the Solstace Eve party. The staff are recovering from there hangovers and the Alchemists report that the Test Pile is safetly maintaing critical mass, slowly reacting Radio-elements into more volitile forms deep in the basement below the Blockhouse. The Professora tells you that she can build a larger one capable of generating electrical power if you give her more funding.Meanwhile the SSC de-orbited there damaged space habitat over the gulf and launched a replacement, quickly recovering from there accident in orbit. It is now turn 1 of the new year 716. You have 54 RnD Points to spend and two luck points.>Wiki: http://emlia.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=SpacePrincessQuest.SpacePrincessQuest>Rules: http://emlia.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=WhatGoesUp.WhatGoesUpAll posts must use the royal we. >>26095956We shall pour development funds into the Meteor-3 so that we can do more in space.Turn 1 Budget:48RP Meteor-3 10/151RP Manufacture EVA Prototype for Testing5RP Manufacture Cheribum Upper StageNext turn we can manufacture a Meteor-3 and the Cheribum rocket to launch it.
>>26096246>5RP Manufacture Cheribum Upper StageGod Mother, does the Upper Stage have to be constructed seperately, or is it part of the cost of constructing the Cheribum? If we're going to be launching lots of stuff into orbit, it seems like we need a Reusable Rocket badly.
God Mother, with your house rule on Thrusters being capable of Orbital Insertion Burns, what happens to a Thruster Module that is not part of the Payload of a Reusable Capsule?Does it burn up on re-entry, since it's not inside of the Capsule? Or it is built as part of the Capsule and it can be recovered and refueled if the Capsule is recovered safely?
Who should be the pilot for the next mission? There are many who need more flight time.
>>26096444Dame Palmer should go next as it doesn't look like she has any flight time yet. She must be getting anxious for some action.
>>26096381It's seperate. And as for re-usable rockets. I'm going to make it more complicated than SpaceCore's rules because IRL we still haven't perfected re-usable rockets. You are going to need a mass driver or SSTO, both of which are currently byond your technical experiance. You are headed in the right direction, but I don't think you will have either before you get to the moon.>>26096439It is destroyed. Space is expensive.
>>26096493You lost your trip, God Mother.>It is destroyed. Space is expensive. But we could save the thruster if we put it inside the Capsule and count is as Payload? Also, would we count it as Mass 1 with its fuel counted separately?
>>26096535WhoopsAnyways it would be an upgrade, meaning you would have to invent it as a completely new module. (see the module rules in the last thread, I need to add them to the houserules section on the wiki.)Fuel for the engines would also have to be stored inside the capsule, meaning it would cary less cargo unless you made it larger. But you could build a Meteior 4 that looked something like thisCapsuleWingsEngines>Pilot>Payload>Payload>Payload>Payload>RCS>Fuel>Fuel>FuelCheribumIt would be a 50% re usable spacecraft that can take 4 mass of cargo into orbit every turn and only have to pay for the cost of the Cheribum Launch Veichile. It would also cost as much as the Cheribum to develop, and would be un-ideal for getting things to the moon.
>>26096686That's what the XMS-1 minishuttle was going to do, essentially.
>>26096483Has Orion flown?
>>26096873He has flown one pathfinder mission.Keep in mind Harker claims that he is the only one quallafied to fly hypersonic aircraft. And that the Meteior has enough room for more passengers and payloads.
>>26096937It's a little risky to send up two Void Knights at once, but it'd be best if Harker started sharing his knowledge -- is he amenable to the idea?
>>26096999He can't be the only one to do these kind of flights. We need the other pilots to be as good as him, for the good of the RCC.
>>26096937Is an RCS not built into the Meteor-3?
>>26097168It has room for RCS. There are 6 spaces for a pilot, Co-pilot, Cargo, and RCS>>26096246>48RP Meteor-3 10/15>1RP Manufacture EVA Prototype for Testing>5RP Manufacture Cheribum Upper StageConfirming budget updaiting wiki.As the new turn begins you recieve two messages,The New MVAC has been installed in Castle Gates. Your mother thanks you for the new gift and tells you the Royal Astrological society will begin programing a computer modle of celestial alignments and Foe Star appearances. You will also be able to comunicate securely with the castle via your satelite network. Meanwhile the BSI is covertly conducting the investigation of the sabatauge of the Stonefield Radio Teliscope, and will keep an eye out for any more attempts.Stonefield reports no unusual signals from the circumpolar stars. How will you spend this turn?>Talk to Harker about the Meteior>Talk to Cobham about Harker>Talk to Hawtry to find out how the EVA manuvering gear is coming along.>Talk to Orion about the Eastern Islands>Call Ms Kenaway
>>26097825We should still like to visit the Islads, but work fist. The next pririty is probably the Meter.
>>26097825Talk to Orion about the Eastern Islands. We will need to gain permission from his mother to build a radio-telescope to cover the eastern hemisphere.
I think getting the Meteor finished is the best idea.
>>26098078We can't develop it further until after we test it in space.
>>26098156Then lt's space.
>>26098279Next turn. We need to determine who we're talking with now.
>>26097825>Talk to Harker about the MeteiorSince he is the only pilot with expertise to pilot the Meteior, we'd like for him to help train the other pilots. He should understand. We need all our pilots as good as him, or the RCC won't go forward.
>Talk to Harker about the MeteorYou find Harker filing paperwork in his apartment in the Manor house facing away from the door and tapping on a typewriter as the sunlight poors into the room through an open window. His mask is sitting on the desk next to him and when you knock on the door he picks it up and places it on his face before turning around to greet you. "Yes Your highness?" He says as you enter the room. What are you wearing?>Frilly Dress, we are still wearing the same thing we wore when we were 15.>Military Dress Uniform, we are seeing Harker on military business.>Business Dress, It's not so hot that we would forget about looking sharp.>Bathing Dress, We just got back from swimming.
>Military Dress Uniform, we are seeing Harker on military business. This is for the RCC as a whole. Once the meteior is complete and Harker has had his first flight and deflowered it, he is to help the other pilots.
>>26099086We shall wear our Business Dress.
>>26099086>Military dress uniform((Sorry if this is late, posting on my phone is awful))
>>26099183>>Military Dress Uniform, we are seeing Harker on military business."Good afternoon your highness. What did you want to talk about?" Sir Harker asks as he turns around and puts his pen away.
>>26099810"We wish to speak with you regarding training the other Void Knights to pilot the Meteor-3. While we appreciate that you wish to be the one to pilot it on its maiden voyage, we have set our sights on larger and grander projects, and a single pilot will not be enough. "And would you be satisfied becoming a mere cargo pilot?"
>>26099950"The Meteor 2 can be used as a sub-orbital trainer. There is room for two pilots, we've just been launching it half empty because of weight restrictions, but for sub-orbital training flights it should do just fine. And I am a test pilot, I will fly whatever craft is the fastest and highest." Harker stands up as he explains this. "I couldn't forgive myself if somebody else died flying a craft I designed."
>>26100137"And will you fly both the Meteor-3 and provide training on the Meteor-2 at the same time? Even your skills have limits, Sir Harker."
>>26100751 and "But nevertheless, I am proud of having you in the team."And end turn.
>>26100751Sir harker chuckles a bit "Not at the same time of couse, Do we even have the budget to launch more than twice per turn?" Sir Harker says after he regains his composure. "No I don't see what the problem is, And once Cobham gets qualafied she can start training Orion and Palmer, For the Saving Prince however I'd sugest giving him more flight hours in a normal aircraft first. And thank you your highness. I'm proud to be part of this."
>>26100885Actually, with a sub-orbital launch of the reusable Meteor-2 costing only 6RP for the Archangel, YES, we CAN do more than 2 launches a turn.
>>26100885Alright, proceed to Turn 2?
>>26102789It is now turn 2, You have 54 RnD points to spend, you have two luck points.
>>26102817Turn 2 Budget:12RP Manufacture Cheribum Rocket8RP Manufacture Meteor-3 (this should have been done when it was first invented; otherwise we wouldn't be able to get development past 5/10)6RP Manufacture Archangel Rocket12RP Meteor-2 18/1912RP Cheribum 16/181RP Manufacture RCS for Meteor-31RP Manufacture Radio-Reactive Power Cell for testing1RP Television Camera1RP Orion Improve PilotingWe can easily launch twice a turn.Harker needs to stop with this bullshit. We can launch the Cheribum with the Meteor-3 with Harker, and a sub-orbital training flight with the Meteor-2, with Dame Palmer and Cobham.Or Harker can take both flights if he's feeling up to it.
>>26102817God mother I think the wiki is messed up for the Meteors. As seen from the wiki.Name Mass Capacity Reliability DescriptionPathfinder capsule 1/3 2 18/19 First manned spacecraftHalcyon Aviation Meteor 2 2 15/19 2 pilot, RCS Sir Harker's dangerous prototype.Halcyon Aviation Meteor 3 2 7/12 6 pilot, RCS Sir Harker's re-usable maned space-plane>>26103078Agreed with this on the exception that Harker certifies Cobham as a trainer before he takes the Meteor-3 for launch. How he does this is up to him.
>>26103078This looks good; we should also look into starting to train ourselves. The powercell is known safe, right? We should also make a big deal of having a quick-turnaround reusable system. The Meteor should look more futuristic :)>>26103145Certifiy as atrainer abit too much, launch meteor 2 before 3 though
>>26103145Thank you for catching that formating Error. I hate this wiki formating SOOOO much, if you want to know why I haven't gotten around to completing it, it's because I can't into tables. It should be fixed now anyways.Keep in mind that launching sub-orbital training missions will send both pilots away from Tanhauser island for the turn.
>>26103791Yes we know. That's why Harker flys the Meteor-3 while Palmer and Cobham fly the Meteor-2 and Orion finishes his training on regular prop planes.Unless Harker is going to be a whiny little bitch again about how no one should fly a hypersonic spaceplane without him.
>>26103978We should use our well-honed tact to see how he feels about it, certainly.
>>26103978Well the issue is the point of a trainer is an experianced pilot sits in the backseat and teaches the less experianced pilot how to fly, so you'll need to have Harker train Cobham, then Cobham train Palmer and Orion.Fortunately these training flights will make the Void Knights more visible instead of sequestering them away on a remote island. If you play up the fact that unlike the SSC's capsules which mostly fly themselves, the RRC's spaceplanes require veteran Avators, you should be able to gain a good deal of publicity. Lately the Rocket Corps has been seen as a drain of government funds with no human element.
>>26104173Having a space airplane should help with that. While it is less efficient, it's a fair point...This has been going on for over a year, so our sstuff should start being in textbooks. We should see what ours say and what theirs say -- maybe play up the difference a little.
>>26104173>so you'll need to have Harker train Cobham, then Cobham train Palmer and Orion. And delay our project by how many turns? This is what I'm talking about; these delays that Harker wants because he believes he's absolutely integral.
>>26104337>these delaysWell right now our Goal is to finish the Meteor, but do we really need it? We definately shouldn't be taking it to the Moon, it can't land there and the wings would be dead weight. We have a big budget now, even bigger than the SSC's budget. What if we just spent it all on going to the moon?
>>26104444The Meteor-3 is the only Capsule with a Payload Capacity greater than 2. If we're going to build something to go to the Moon, and it's not going to be either unmanned or ridiculously expensive, then it has to be built in orbit. That can't be done with Capsules that only have a Capacity of 2.
>>26104695Well actualy I've been making up-goers and it's actualy possible to do it using two large rockets. The Meteior is good for resuplying a space station, or preforming military survalence, But it it's not really capable of lifting heavy loads into orbit. Both the SSC and the RRC have the money needed to get to the moon, they just need a first stage larger than the cheribum, a big engine, and some kind of lander.
>>26104856>a first stage larger than the cheribumWhat, a Mass 24 super-rocket as a first stage?
>>26104920Not that big, but a pair of Mass 18 rockets (which is the maximum you could invent if you spent all your points on one thing) could launch an entire moon mission in two parts and dock them in LEO. Or Launch a lunar Flyby mission with a single launch.I haven't done the numbers on a Mass 24 super rocket because I don't think anybody will get a budget of 72. But I imagine it would be enough for a direct ascent mission
>>26104444We can do a moonshot, but we should use the situation to build infrastructure to deal with the ... other stuff. The idea is to be able to space travel rliably.>>26105002I think that's a if-everything-goes-well minimum.
>>26105112Any moonshot is an "If everything goes well" mission."Things are going slowly so I don't think it would be worth it to run turn 2. I guess it's not weekdays that are slow for me, but just thursdays. Maybe Instead of cutting it down to just saturday, I should cut it down to just Saturday and Tuesday. Those are the days I regularly get 130+ replies.Anyways I'm calling it for the night, see you Saturday.
>>26106067good night and thank you!
>>26106067We'd have gotten more done if you'd post faster.
>>26106067I mean, really, what the hell were you waiting for? If Harker was going to speak out against us just sending Palmer and Cobham in the training flight, why didn't you? Instead, we waited around while you did nothing, even as most of us wanted to do the launch.
>>26106067>I guess it's not weekdays that are slow for meNo, it's generally YOU holding things back.
I will admit, it's also partly my fault, I tend to have more energy on Tuesday and Saturday, but I also notice that on Thursday I get the least amount of replies.
