You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. After a great deal of work, you have become a Paladin like your Father, and now take up his duties. You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mari, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.Your journey continues...Opening theme song (NEW for Season 4!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3FKgL7YVFghttp://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Lamia%20Quest1d4 chan page w/battle stats: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Quest:Lamia_Daughter_Quest
Your time at the Red Wolf camp has been busy. You negotiated terms for use of the Orc army successfully. The tribes of Boar, Seal, Rat, and Hind will march on the Phoenix Empire for you. In exchange, you need to help the Red Wolf clan kill a God.Ages ago, the Crafters, the race that enslaved the Orcs ascended themselves into something that they call a God. It's the thing responsible for the Things and other horrors that are out on the Ice. It also wishes to have its property back, the Red Wolf has been fighting them off for ages. Now, however, they have a chance to go on the offensive. There is a city further north, the Crafter's capitol city, and within it is a great Cathedral where a majority of the Crafter God's power is housed. The orcs have built a massive bomb from black oil, fire runes, and refined brillitite. They plan to use it, to cripple the Crafter God enough so they can purge the city and push the battle in their favor. The problem is that the City is under an eternal Geas. No orc can make any hostile action against it, or its denizens. Not even remotely. They also don't want you to be the ones who set off the bomb. Orcs must be the ones who kill the Crafters and their God, or they believe that they'll never be truly free of their chains. What they DO want you to do is to go to another location in the city. The Tower of Obedience, and take what's causing the Geas to still hold after all these years. A staff that's connected to a city wide runic array, the Staff of Domination. A powerful artifact in its own right, but more importantly, in the staff is a rock of pure brillitite, the size of your fist. That's your ticket to breaching the Citadel Wall. So, the plan is simple enough, but you have no idea what's waiting for you within the City of the Crafters. You've seen their 'pets' and cast-offs, His Light only knows what's actually waiting for you inside.
Woo, time to go shopping in crafter's warehouse!I hear they have terrible customer service though.
>>26054629You're loading up Wagon, readying for the advance on the city, when Garkat comes to you."You wished for assurance that the tribes would honor our bargain." He holds out a length of chain. "This is it."It's a length of iron chain, spaced between the links are small discs, each with a different animal on them. A wolf, a rat, a hind, a boar, and a seal."This chain is yours to hold, and once our exchange is complete you will return it to us." He says. "Any Orc who betrays the exchange, proves themselves a thief, will find themselves re-chained and bound once more." He says. "This is NOT something we give lightly, and it is only because we are aware that you are doing much for us, for a promise." Garkat says. "Also, the Hawk Tribe, the Elk, and the Ox have refused your exchange. They do as they please.""What happens if they decide to attack us then?" Peri asks."Then you repel them." Garkat says. "They make their own decisions, and they are poor ones. Eventually they will be fool enough to need an exchange with one of the greater tribes, and then we will remember this time, and they will suffer. Such is our way."
>>26054753"Very well, they're free to make poor decisions. Better to get in on the ground floor with something like this.Tell me, is this a token, or is there some magic in it? If we were to happen to perish out there, would you be forced to retrieve it?"Since I'm curious.
>eagerly awaiting for more The Thing and Lovecraft in the crafter city
>>26054842I myself can't wait to see if poisons work on themGood luck being scary without bones!
>>26054858I dunno if that's a good idea. Unless we're spitting on them.I have the feeling they'll just turn their bones into flesh and then when the poison is spent they'll shift back into bones.
I wonder if we'll run into the tall guy again.Kinda want to try to talk to him
>>26054827>>26054753oh, before I forget: Are we taking a guide? How will we find our way to this city? That's not been resolved onscreen.>>26054892I think the biggest concern with biting them is we're gonna get our tongue stuck
>>26054753"If they so wish to make an enemy of the one who is to kill a god... It is entirely their prerogative to make terrible decisions. As insurance, this will suffice. I shall honour the terms of our contract."Though I do have to note that the exchange doesn't end with the phoenix being defeated. It's a permanent thing - Those tribes that follow this pact are never going to be able to take hostile action against the south. If the terms of the contract are to be followed, then this chain is to be held by us forever.
>>26054936>I think the biggest concern with biting them is we're gonna get our tongue stuckAnd not just because it's cold. I am terribly worried one of our companions is compromised. Lea in particular. Just a worry, though.
>>26054962>eternal pactOh, that's just in the fine print. I'm sure that won't come up.
>>26054971We need to get that girl some gauntlets.and solid boots.Girl can't be touching everything with her fists
>>26054962This is what happens when you strike a bargain with Satan. There's always fine print.
>>26054971oh, that's a good point. Let's all do a quick on-tundra and then on-ice bleed check, to ensure that none of our bleeding patterns are changed by whether or not we're on ice. That's the method the orcs used.
So, I take it the Hawk, Elk, and Ox tribes are going to be the ones who have their slaves freed first, huh?
>>26054962This generation will keep the bargain at least. We can't be entirely too sure about the next.
>>26055205We'll just have to go back to Isen and tell him that he'll need to set up watchtowers and fortifications in the north. It's a long term issue, nothing we could do about it short of genocide.
>>26055205>>26055227it's gonna be weird being some sort of multi-generational guard organization leader. "you know, your grandfather has a much better sense of humor. Not as handsome though."
"If they so wish to make an enemy of the one who is to kill a god... It is entirely their prerogative to make terrible decisions."As insurance, this will suffice. I shall honour the terms of our contract." You say.Garkat nods. "You understand that we cannot accompany you into the City, we've found that the Geas compels us to assault others who try and harm the Crafters.""You've really tested that thing to its fullest extent, haven't you?" Tricia asks.Garkat nods. "Wouldn't you? We've been searching and searching for weaknesses." He hands you a compass. It's another one of the special compasses you've been finding. "This is a compass the Crafters made. It always points towards the safest route home. In this case, the City.""The Crafters made the Compasses?" Peri asks.Garkat nods. "Yes. You'd be surprised at how much of their legacy has filtered throughout the lands. They ruled nearly the entire continent, before we broke their chains." He nods proudly."Huh." Mage says."Yes, our rebellion was the first, and they found themselves slowly broken. They were so disgusted by the fortunes of fate turning on them, that was what caused them to turn to becoming what they are now." He thumps his chest. "All beings owe their freedom to the Orcs!"You get the sneaking suspicion that it's probably not THAT cut and dried."So, we'll be safe...safe-ER crossing the Ice?" Mage asks."We will have others on the Ice, drawing them as you did before." He nods. "Also we know safe pieces of land that are near the City but within the Geas. We'll know when it's undone and assault the Cathedral then."
>>26055315look at the chain with your magic vision. I want to see if this is an oath deal, or if we're going to be magically cursing/fucking an entire race of people down the line on accident."Well, orc rebellion or not, the freedom didn't stick. It's been a struggle down south, let me tell you. Long story.Anyway, you'll probably have a nice signal from us when the geas ends. If we have any of those bombs left, that is. Good luck with that cathedral. I expect to see you all hale and hearty after this."
>>26055315note to self: Let's pick up a crafter history book while we're there, this shit seems like it might predate the 5th.
>>26055537We get to take whatever we can carry.Might as well get some fat loot
>>26055537Excellent idea. And it might contain information as to how to thwart Citadel in its own diety making process.
You glance at the chain. There's a small bit of magic there. Not the same amount you'd see in a full on magical artifact, but it's there. However, it's something that's been surrounded by the Ice and that's enough to give most things a twinge of magic now and again."Well, orc rebellion or not, the freedom didn't stick. It's been a struggle down south, let me tell you. Long story."Anyway, you'll probably have a nice signal from us when the geas ends. If we have any of those bombs left, that is. Good luck with that cathedral. I expect to see you all hale and hearty after this." You say."Agreed!" Garkat says and he returns to his people.Lea sighs as she adjusts her gloves."When did you get those?" Mage asks."A few days ago, Tundra Hind leather and rabbit fur lining. Quite warm. My hands have been nearly frozen this whole trip." She says."How'd you get them?" Tricia asks."Exchanged some of my lute strings for them. No end of uses for good strong strings." She smiles. "They're ugly as sin, you know that." Peri says."They work, and it's not like I'm one to worry about beauty." Lea says. "Are we going now, or do we have anything else left to check up on?"
>>26055651"I think we're good.Let's go punch out Cthulhu."
>>26055697technically we're breaking into cthulu's house and disabling his burglar alarm.and burglarizing him.
>>26055651"Hey, they look great to me. I'm envious. Then again, I'd ruin 'em.I think we're as prepared as we can be. We've got bombs, we've told Terry and Tammy we're going to be gone a day or so, we've got a method of navigation. Not missing anything important."Mumble something about missing tailsocks.
>>26055721Look, we're almost done being in the north and we've not gotten a single souvenir for Ssai and Ssah.Look how adorable they are, we need to pick something up.
Rolled 9, 13 = 22>>26055651"Lets do this then."
"Hey, they look great to me. I'm envious. Then again, I'd ruin 'em."I think we're as prepared as we can be. We've got bombs, we've told Terry and Tammy we're going to be gone a day or so, we've got a method of navigation. Not missing anything important." You say. "So I think we're good. Let's do this, and go punch out a God."You all pile into Wagon, Lea snaps the reigns and Lightmare takes off. She pauses at the border where the land meet the Ice. Then with a deep breath, she snaps the reigns again and Lightmare takes off and you enter the Ice.Once again, the rest of the world disappears. It's not as nightmarish as before, you don't see a sea of dead beneath you, and there's no lightning or living chasms. You do however, lose the sun and the blue sky as it's replaced by a swirling churning mass of grey clouds, also the wind is blowing snow and ice into your face, making it again, near impossible to see. You look behind you, and sure enough, just the glow of the Red Wolf's fire and the Barrier are all that you can see in the storm.Roll 1d20 - 2, lower is better.
>>26055822(Oh, also. You have 10 bombs, 2 each. The orcs on the raiding party took the lion's share of them from the oil they could spare so they could do the bomb run.)
Rolled 13 + 2>>26055822Oh boy, ice in our poor snake face.We really should train up like, a minotaur, or human replacement for northern missions. This is so not our niche.
Rolled 9 + 2>>26055822Rollan
Rolled 11>>26055822rolling again, since we need 3 to properly do thing.
Rolled 93>Catching up on the archives, so I don't get spoilers>Finish up the last thread>See that the next one starts today>MFW I rush to see if the schedule is rightJoy of joys! I finally caught up! And immediately as I finish, I can has jump into helping! HUZZAH!
Rolled 6>>26055822Now to roll... The d100 was from Bioweapon quest yesterday.
>>260558847This time it's not as simple as just 'go north.' Lea keeps changing her direction as the compass keeps spinning and shifting around. You're pretty sure you see shapes moving in the blizzard, but nothing solid, and certainly nothing you can identify. You do hear sounds of shouting and combat in the distance. Hopefully that's the Orcs, and they haven't called up more than they can handle."Crap." You hear Mage say. "We've got some friends."You look. It's two of the Same People. They're running towards Wagon, knifes in their hands, and frozen faces.Still, they're just human-ish people, their footing isn't the best, and they're not extraordinarily fast."I think we can outrun them." Lea says. You still have your oil arrows as well.
>>26056024"Just out run them."Lets not waste goods on these.
>>26056024"Just keep running. They're gonna be hard pressed to catch up like that."As long as the orcs and us keep moving, all we have to really fight is anything that comes at us from the front to stop the horse.
Rolled 10>>26056024Do we still have inf arrows? If so, as someone else takes care of the wagon, we can probably take potshots at them. I know you said we had infinite sometime during our journey across the Ice.As long as we have lots of arrows, take potshots. Tell Lea or whoever's driving to go fast, and not to worry about being too steady.
>>26056100I think as long as we're with our wagon, we can just use as many arrows as we want.Once we get in the city, we'll have a supply of arrows dictated by narrative forces.
Rolled 10>>26056080>>26056043>>26056054"Just keep running. They're gonna be hard pressed to catch up like that." You say."Got it." Lea says.
>>26056174You know, I only now realize we didn't make sure our wagon was repaired.I hope our teammates did.
Rolled 7>>26056232WHY DID YOU REMIND HIM??? WE'RE ALL GONNA DIIIIIIEEEEEeh, the others are competent enough to take care of the things we forget. We're probably fine.
>>26056174"There it is." Lea says. You look and see a blurry shape in the distance, that could possibly be a city."That guy just doesn't give up." Mage says. You look. It seems that one of the Sames has slipped and fall, but the other one is still running after you."I'm actually just a little impressed." Peri says."I think the City is on Land." Mari says. "I see raises in the ground.""Does that matter for them?" Tricia asks."We can still outpace him, just a little more." Lea says.
>>26056174Is it good? Is it bad? No, its average.
>>26056296cool down there a bit newbie. We're all going to die, but we're not screaming about it. We're in the heavy drinking stage right now.
>>26056305Maybe loose an arrow at him? Fewer things chasing us the better.
Rolled 17>>26056305I don't think they can go on land, but it might not matter for the city. Keep trying to outrun them.
>>26056305Then we'll outpace him.
>>26056305"Outpace him, but I'm going to see if I can get him to stop being so persistent. Don't need him relaying our exact position to everyone else, if it works like that."Go for a knee shot. No way he can keep running with an arrow in the knee/leg.
Rolled 15>>26056370I'd rather not waste any arrows please.
>>26055739really happy to see this re-posted, and echo you were right, the one pointing is ssai
>>26056429I'm happy to see fan art being made myself. I've got everything saved.
Rolled 6 + 1>>26056386>>26056350>>26056343"Best not to waste the arrow." You say. "Go for it."Lea nods and pushes Lightmare to go faster and from side to side so that the Same hopefully falls behind and loses your location.
Rolled 15>>26056502Please let that roll be for the Same and not for us.
>>26056502"Damn it!" Mage says. "This guy doesn't know when to give up!""We're almost there." Lea says. "I can see the City."You look. You see the towers and walls of the City of the Crafters. The Same just refuses to give up.All it'll take is one last hard push and you'll have reached the city. What's 20 miles to Lightmare anyway? If you have Lea slow down so you can shoot at the Same accurately, it'll take a bit longer."How has that thing followed us this long?" Mari mutters."Probably doesn't have to worry about breathing, fatigue, or muscle damage. The speed is unnatural, but I think that could be ex-" Mage starts."Mage, do you actually know, or are you pulling this out of your ass as we go?" Tricia asks."Only about half of it." Mage says shrugging.Shoot or run?
>>26056613eh, just keep going. We'll get out and spear him when we get there.inb4 he runs past us and tells all the other monsters.
>>26056613Push on through.
Rolled 9>>26056613A couple minutes extra, to make sure we don't have to watch our backs later, and kill an enemy who might raise the alarm? Do it. Sure, we'll lose a couple minutes, but we'll have a better chance at sneaking in the city if there's not someone chasing us inside.
>>26056613Run. "Does it matter? His guesses have been pretty damn good so far!"
>>26056613"Half sure is more than I'm used to. Good work."
Rolled 16 + 2"Does it matter? His guesses have been pretty damn good so far, and half-sure is more than I'm used to. Good work. Go for broke Lea." You say.
>>26056761Thankfully, the last bit towards the city is just a straight shot. Which is all Lightmare needs, you see the Same slowly become nothing more than a dot, and then the dot is swallowed up by the gale and blowing snow."Okay, whoa...whoa!" Lea says as she pulls on Lightmare's reins. The City is on land. You all stop when Lightmare's hooves stamp onto dirt, but before you walk through the Western Gate of the Crafter's city."Crap." Tricia says. "Are we going to have to take Lightmare with us through the city? We can't leave the fella out here.""Well..." Mage looks through the gate. "I see hitching posts inside the city.""Yeah, cause those are MUCH safer." Peri says. "We could send Lightmare back to Red Wolf, it's smart enough to do that...right?""It's still Land out here." Lea says. "Safer than inside the City and better than out on the ice. Also, we need a way out of here before the Orcs blow it up."
>>26056862If we take wagon and lightmare, we have an emergency barricade and emergency getaway vehicle. We have the luxury of wide city streets for ONCE!"I say take him. Worst case scenario, we have to cut him from the wagon, lose all our stuff, and send him to the red wolf camp. Keep any real valuable curios on your person, in that light, since we might lose the wagon."
>>26056862"Lea, you know Lightmare better than anyone, and I like having an exit strategy for once."
>>26056862We're going to need Lightmare to get out of here. We might be able to lock it up somewhere.
>>26056862"As much of a beast Lightmare is, it probably can't fend off many of the creatures of the Ice. We should bring it with us."
"As much of a beast Lightmare is, it probably can't fend off THAT many of the Ice Things. I say take him. Worst case scenario, we have to cut him from the wagon, lose all our stuff, and send him to the red wolf camp. Keep any real valuable curios on your person, in that light, since we might lose Wagon." You say. "I'd like to have an exit strategy for once.""First time for everything." Peri says. The others start to unload. Lea comes up to you. "Ssen, Lightmare can carry a large amount, but..." She looks at your tail. "Can you ride anything, at all?"You hear Tricia chuckle behind you. No doubt she's remembering the incident with her father all those years back.
>>26057021"That was your father's fault!"
>>26057021"Uh, er, well, *ahem*""Not really. I'd make my own way back come this worst case."
Rolled 9>>26057021"That wasn't my falt Tricia! That was your dad's fault!"
>>26057021We might have crushed horse when we tried again later in life, after the druid-horse fiasco.
>>26057021"Worst case scenario we do a similar maneuver to that little Fiasco on Bronze Peak."
>>26057138We're only 800lbs...
>>26057021"... sort of.""Then again, I can move like a firework-powered eel when I have to, remember?"
>>26056862"We could just take him with us. Couldn't hurt, right?"
Rolled 4>>26057377Let's not.
>>26057401but that's the plan, aint it? We take him with us, then send him to split to the red wolves if shit gets so bad we can't defend our position?
Rolled 19>>26057495I thought the plan was to hitch him up outside the city, but still on the land.
>>26057021"I can turn on the quickquick if it comes to that. Feral snakes move like greased lightning"
>>26057517I'm against hitching anything to anything in zombie cthulu land.
>>26057021s-s-shut up. Your dad is just a lousy horse.
It occurs to me, do our other friends know that Trica's dad is a druid? This conversation is gonna be interesting if they don't
>>26057666It's an "in the blood" thing, right?
>>26057666It's already an interesting conversation. It's just a matter of how embarrassing it gets before zombies interrupt it.>>26057196okay, maybe knocked a horse down then.
>>26057695Magic being being like that is a misconception as I recall
>>26057777>>26057695yes, but it's a misconception they might believe.>>26057021"Er... uh...On another topic, we'll be using the canvas on top of the wagon as a sled for a faster getaway."
Rolled 7>>26057666Echo is probably taking so long because he's laughing at the conversation he's writing.
>>26057828I thought he usually laughed at our terrible rolls.Or just expressed disbelief when we derail his plot
Rolled 20It occurs to me that eventually Tricia's dad is going to die. When that happens we will need to do something to take her mind off it. However, at the rate we are going we won't have any gods left to kill.
>>26057915oh i'm sure we'll be able to find some social culture or institution in need of a controlled burn.
>>26057915We might have to resort to having a real vacation. You know, with coconuts.
>>26057915Maybe we could become fur traders. Or check bulletin boards.
>>26057999>become fur tradersOh god, that would be the best
>>26057103"Uh, er, well, *ahem*" You clear your throat and give Tricia a death glare. "Not really. I'd make my own way back come this worst case., orr we could do a similar maneuver to that little fiasco on Bronze Peak. Also, I can turn on the quickquick if need be. I can move like a firework-powered eel on greased lightning when I need to."Lea nods. "Okay. Well, here's hope that when it does come to that, we'll have safe-ish options.""It might no-" Mage starts. "Ah, who am I kidding?"You slither over to Tricia. "And for the record, that was your Dad's fault!" You snap."Suuuure." She says. "Go ahead and keep telling yourself that.""Alright." Peri/Mari says. "We're ready.""Same." "Yeah." "All set."You all walk over the threshold, past the Western get into the CIOupt238-90828-r1-1000001010101000111010101100011000k0r1001942490000000iorii"Wake up." A voice. It's the Matron. She pulls you to your feet. "I'm sorry." She clicks her jaws. "I know you're normally allowed extra sleep today, and you've worked hard enough to earn even more. I hope this make up for some of it." She slips you a boiled sweet. You slip it into your mouth and smile at her. She's not a bad person. Honestly, you know of other Matrons who whip and beat other Joy like yourself. Of course, that's just so she can sell you for as high of a price as you can. "I have some exciting news. You've been fully purchased!" She smiles. You pause, your feet suddenly feel cold. Fully purchased? Not rented or leased or anything like that, but fully purchased? You would squeal with happiness, but as a Joy your voice box was long removed.
Rolled 18>>26057999>fur tradersOh god, we should totally do this.
>>26058055"Now, we need to go to Obedience for the bonding." Matron says. "But first we need to stop at the Foundry."What? The Foundry? Why?"Crafter Kc'lasa wants to try something new. You should feel honored. He got inspired when he made a trip south." The Matron says.Your happiness turns to ice. Kc'lasa's menagerie? Oh no...no no no no no! You feel light headed and your jaws go limp...the sweet...in your mouth...that...bitch.You awake and you're in a gilded cage, filled with silk, satin and pillows. You're naked, and your hair's been altered, and your jaws have been fused...and...oh...you gasp and heave and silently scream. You can't feel your legs and all you see is this long hideous looking tail! What are you?! What kind of being ARE you? What have they done to you? Your lower body thrashes and squirms as you try and get away from it. You look up and you see Nobles watching you. You hear laughter and applause.
Rolled 18>>26058055Since when the fuck did we have feet?
>>26058055oh, I see. Wait, wait, no I don't. I don't see.Some slave bullshit going on here.
>>26058076"Oh how marvelous!" A voice says. "How does it feel when you take her?""I haven't tried it yet. I'm letting the Dominance settle in."You see the grey skinned drudges walk up to your cage and throw in a half-dead rabbit. Your stomach churns and our mouth. Oh God! You scream when your tongue, far FAR longer than it should be feels you new teeth. Oh no no no. You were so proud of your smile! You trained for ages on it!"So, is this a perfect recreation?""No, no. Native lamias are poisonous and have barbs and are Dragon-Kin anyway, fit for hunting and trophies.""Ah, I see, you changed her hair to match the head on your wall.""Yes! So glad you noticed. I like to think of them as sisters now."There's clinking of glasses and laughter."You're always so daring.""Well, I like to think that we can do more than just make a better drudge. Anyway, let me show you my next girl. You'll flip when you see what I took inspiration from here!"A light goes off and you're left in the dark. The rabbit is starting to smell, and you know eventually you'll eat it.So this is your life now. PAIN!A hard smack and you're looking at Tricia's face. "Oh thank His Light, she's back.""Honestly, Ssen." Lea says. "Can we go to a new place and have you NOT go crazy on us?""For the record," Tricia says. "She DID stay normal in Citadel and wasn't effected by the Choir. So she's got a pretty good record.""True." Lea says. "Mage, how's Peri and Mari?""Regaining consciousness and swearing to kill me." He says. "Never mind the fact that I went loopy too.""Okay, good." Tricia says. "So...what lovely facet of life here dod YOU see?"
Rolled 18>>26058055Wait, we have feet? Hell no, No Feet, No Toes, No Knees. Roll to disbelieve.
>FeetWhat did... feet... feel like?

Rolled 11>>26058429The Citadel wants people to be prosperous, it wants them to be safe and happy. It's goals aren't evil, just the things that have to happen for those goals to be fulfilled.
"You know, Lea, I'd really like to keep my mind. Very rarely is it a pleasant sensation." You groan as you right yourself. "I got a bad one. Apparently they were pretty big on the surgery-on-captives here. Evidently I was a sex slave, luckily you woke me up before anything happened.""Ick." Tricia says."It gets worse. A noble went down south and saw some lamia, apparently he liked the look of them so he twisted this poor slave girl into an approximation.""I had something similar." Lea says. "The slaves to the Priests were altered as well, a a place called the Foundry. They take their eyes, and change their voices and mouths. All they can do is stand behind the priests and sing praises and hymns. No end to it. The worst thing is that they get altered so that when they do it, their own bodies release a narcotic into their bloodstream.""A narcotic my person made." Tricia says. "They changed my body into this...walking chemical factory. They milked this poor girl, day in and day out for His Light knows what.""I got lucky...sorta." Mage says. "I worked at the Foundry. I think I figured it out though. Why all the missing machinery, and why there seems to be these gaps here and there? Like no sewage or trash and things like that? They were replaced by living beings. The Three-Eyes were fleshshapers on a scale that the Ghouls could only dream of." He shudders. "I don't want to tell you how weird it was to have extra limbs.""Well, I felt what feet, knees, and other assorted stuff feels like. How do you stand it?" You ask. There's a pause and the other Dawnchasers laugh."And just like that, we're back to normal." Peri says.
Rolled 9>>26058529Peri and Mari didn't tell us what they saw.Oh, and Echo, was Slavery practiced in the Citadel Kingdom, and is it practiced in the successor states?
>>26058529"Okay, we wasted enough time here. Let' get that damn staff. Which way do we go?"
>>26058529"I don't see what's so funny, it seems tricky."The joke is that Ssen wasn't telling a joke."Anyway, I'm glad we all got to do the cultural enrichment part of our little trip. Keep an eye out for the locals."Also keep an eye out for souvenirs, but that's an order for Ssen, not our partners.
>>26058529"Peri, Mari you all right over there?"
>>26058606I would assume that slavery is one of those practices that isn't deemed "acceptable" by Citadel, at least when it comes to humans, and I find it hard to believe anybody in the UFK would support it since we just went through the trouble of liberating the "monsters".
>>26058529"You know, no offense Mage, but I don't think I like flesh shaping. Just in general."
>>26058529"I don't think the nuking of this city can possibly come fast enough. I honestly hate these guys more than Citadel."
>>26058619I'm not sure it's wise to be taking souvenirs from a dead city once populated by insane flesh shapers who turned themselves into Things.
>>26058635>>26058606yeah, I AM curious about slavery practices.I do know they had a lot of "pet" nagas. Perhaps lamia too, but I've not seen it.
>>26058667It's not just wise, it's brilliant.
>>26058667I recall saying we would
Rolled 11>>26058635I would tend to agree. The part in Thread 4 where we talk about Abolishing Slavery as a great good worthy of being the quest of a paladin isn't the sort of thing you find in a slaver culture. The pet Naga don't really count, since the humans/elves/dwarfs seem not to have realized naga were sapient on the same level as them.
>>26058606>Oh, and Echo, was Slavery practiced in the Citadel Kingdom, and is it practiced in the successor states? No. Citadel couldn't figure out how to make slaves truly happy, even when it totally mindwiped them, then there were people who were upset about slavery and on and on so it just dropped the whole thing because it was easier.
Rolled 3>>26058529The Power of Punnery Protects us from Perverse Premonitions
>>26058670If Ssen is any indication, I really doubt you can domesticate a Lamia.I mean even for the ones who can't sweat Acid, it seems like it'd be more trouble than it's worth.
>>26058741there was that one stuffed "pet" lamia back in teds. Also, we were able to pass as pets back in citadel.I think they're just a bit rarer than domesticated nagas, being very poison. Weras I assume nagas are only kinda poison.
>>26058783It also could be that the good people of Citadel can't tell one form of snakewoman from another.Hell. I'm pretty sure in Purple Sands somebody thought we were Trish's Pet Naga.
>>26058529"So, I take it the staff of domination is what let them get away with such wide-spread usage of crazy mutated slaves? What's the best way to destroy the staff, by the way?"
>>26058783Nagas have no poison. Lamia poison comes from their Leviathan heritage. Nagas are tough like their Troll-blood makes them, and they have levels in sorcerer.
>>26058859>no poisonI dunno, we've never checked. Or asked.
>>26058877We did ask after the whole red moss thing. Granny said that no she doesnt have any poison. Im pretty sure she would have used it against us if she did during THAT fight. All she had was hyper-tough everything and the spell she used to black us out.
Rolled 11>>26058722Makes sense. And once slavery was abolished it would be largely seen as the evil it is. The feral/pet "monsters" wouldn't count, because their mental development was probably deliberately stunted. Citadel likely gives inducement to pet naga to keep them dumb, much like it gives inducement to wild naga to keep them feral.
"I don't see what's so funny, it seems tricky." You say. "Peri, Mari you all right over there?""Fine." They sigh."You want to tell us what you saw?" Mage asks."We'll tell you when we can pick them apart." Mari groans. "We both got a different memory. Fried the circuits.""I think one of us was a noble and the other was a servant, but it got all blitzed together." Peri groans. "Massive headache.""You know, no offense Mage, but I don't think I like flesh shaping. Just in general." You say."Hey, it worked for Mumei." He says. "It has plenty of good uses. But I admit it seems like none of them were used here.""Well, I don't think the nuking of this city can possibly come fast enough. I honestly hate these guys more than Citadel." You say."Don't say stuff like that." Tricia says as she looks around the pavilion. "Something will hear that and try and top this."The pavilion is a large circular space with a long broken fountain in the center. You see long frozen over buildings and in the distance you hear the echo of the Choir's song. The Tower of Obedience is still standing. You can see it, dwarfed in the shadow of the Cathedral. If you remember the path correctly, you need to head down a road that's filled with snow drifts.

>>26059981what could POSSIBLY go wrong?
Look at it this way: there's zero chance that one way is just going to go swimmingly well. So we can either run into something later, or investigate the first ice/ichor constructs that haven't tried to kill us yet and who used to be horribly mistreated by the three-eyes. This way can lead to good or bad things, or a combination. I have a feeling that just plodding along will only lead to bad things. So I vote follow them.
We have aesymmetrical brains, sure. And we've got a split decision, sure. But which side is arguing what?
>>26059981It's a flesh market not a flesh factory. Completely different. Seeing as nobody's selling any more it's just an abandoned marketplace.

>>26060087And then WE had to.Ssen shouldn't even have to think about it. Following them or not following them could just as easily come from a gut instinct: and our gut instinct has always been to stick our nose where it doesn't belong, for better or worse.

Rolled 7>>26060163No, pretty sure that's only if they can actually see us. If they just know, it shouldn't do any harm. I mean, the orcs know, and there's no danger to us from them as long as they don't physically see us try and break the domination effect.
>>26059832Gotta go with following them. Our job is to walk into traps.

>>26060185I like to think that the lamia brain is a sort of hivemind intellect and /tg/ is actually what is happening. And then the result of /tg/'s collective insanity and schizophrenia gets filtered through the dragon brain, forming a somewhat more coherent and *slightly* less insane action, which is then what Ssen actually does.
if they had enough will left to not mindlessly attack you we might be able to work some sort of diplomacy, the three eyes were laid low by a slave revolt so not all there creations were loyal. besides our career is walking into traps.
>>26060263Later, it turns out Ssen just has schizophrenia
>>26060312>walkingWhat is this devilry?
>>26060248Just because you disagree with the logic behind an action does not make it any less logical.Giving in to mistrust and fear when there's something here worth looking into would be stupidity. >>26060323Lamia are supposed to be weird.
Rolled 20>>26060333I understand the thinking. I just want to get to the tower asap.
>>26060333I was actually supporting going to follow them. >>26060377Are you familiar with the OODA loop? It stands for Observe, Orient, Decide, Act, and it's the cornerstone of modern military tactics as well as an analytical framework used in business strategy and education. Skipping the Observation process leads to death. Failing to gather enough information to Orient yourself leads to miscalculation. Rushing forward to the tower without investigating things that don't make sense in the context of our previous run-ins with three-eyes constructs is a failure to Observe and Orient, and will probably make things harder in the long run. It may even lead to someone dying needlessly.
Well, I like how this vote is going.Besides, we need to give civilians, if they exist, a chance to flee before the orc nuclear solution happens.

>>26059832I think Echo got eaten by a Thing...
"Alright, I won't think about it." You say. "Come on."You go inside the building. The others follow. Tricia muttering under her breath. The moment Peri/Mari enter the building as the last of the group, a Joy Thing slams the door shut behind her.You look around the room and up at the upstairs balcony. The room is packed with the Things. A collection of frightened eyes and ice-ichor bodies. You hear a rumbling outside and it gets louder and louder. The Joy Things push you to the side of the room and behind a bar. One puts a finger to her lips. You see another Joy Thing huddling in a ball behind the bar with you. From her size she couldn't have been older than 10. You hear her whispering under her breath. The words are Crafter's but your brush with the mind of a Crafter lets you pick up what she's saying. It's a very simple mantra."Not here...not here...not here."Then THUD THUD THUD. The sound of something huge hits the door. The little Thing squeals and looks like she's trying to hide within the wood of the bar itself.A Joy Thing goes to open the door. The moment she undoes the latch the door flings open and another Thing comes in.It's another one of those Headhunter things you fought in the woods. This one doesn't have any deadflesh on it though. It's just a walking mound of ice on a bunch of thin spindly legs. It has a Three-Eye skull on top and some three-eye heads within. The Joy Things all scamper back."Rejoice and exalt!" The skull thing says in Crafter. "Glory has come at last. Sing praises upon thee and know that thy salvation has come for we may allow three rapture within glory! Rejoice! Rejoice! Praise! Praise!""Praise. Praise." The collection of Joy Things say.(cont)
>>26061479Slowly, three Joy Things come forward and stand before the Headhunter. The headhunter sprouts a large ice arm and claw and swats them aside. They smash into the wall and lie their. Their bodies broken and leaking ichor over the floor."Praise! Praise! For only the Pure shall be! Only the young shall come first! Only in youth is their innocence and holiest of holies! Praise the children!"The Headhunter skitters around the room and then pauses. The claw reaches over the bar in a flash and grabs the small Joy Thing. It screams for an instant. Then another claw has ripped off the head from the body. The body is tossed aside and the claw thrusts the head inside the mound of ice.You see the frozen spheres that serve as eyes for the Headhunter roll back and forth like billiard balls."Praise and rejoice for now the innocent are as God! Now they rejoice! Praise! Praise!""Praise. Praise.""Please..." You see one of the earlier Joy Things dragging themselves over to the headhunter. "Please...praise and exalt...please...I wish and need to be of God. Please...praise! Praise!"The Headhunter's reply is to simply smash the Joy Thing's head into pulp with one of its hands. The skull spins its eyes and looks around the room. "Praise and champion! For hers is now peace! Praise! Praise!""Praise. Praise.""Two more are ready for the rapture and bliss!" The Headhunter continues to speak. "Bring them! Praise and let them ascend!"

>>26061718> If it attacks the one that's clearly cowering in a corner with us wishing it was anywhere else, we intercede. It already did that, dude.>The Joy Things push you to the side of the room and behind a bar... You see another Joy Thing huddling in a ball behind the bar with you. From her size she couldn't have been older than 10. You hear her whispering under her breath...>The claw reaches over the bar in a flash and grabs the small Joy Thing. It screams for an instant. Then another claw has ripped off the head from the body. The body is tossed aside and the claw thrusts the head inside the mound of ice.
>>26061792>already did thatAnd I'm kind of pissed that happened. It clearly didn't want to go.Probably time to stand. Praise be.
>>26061749Yes, and there's nothing we can do now for the little joy thing that got krumpt. Our main advantage here is that the ice thing doesn't know we're here. This lets us observe the situation a little longer to try and gauge whether our intercession is likely to cause the older joy-things to turn on us or not. We also can't put the little joy-thing we've got at undue risk through haste. So until the ice-thing does something to force our hand, examples of which I have suggested, we wait.

Rolled 11>>26062952This is what happened when we Enlightened Adahn.>"May the Light clear your mind!" You say. "And listen to the Paladin the next time she speaks to you!">A burst of light flies out from Beacon and smashes into Adahn's face. His mask shatters instantly into pieces. Chunks of stone drop to the ground. He drops to his knees and screams as his wounds reopen, the healing magic vanishing. >It even goes further. His smooth face goes a little spotty, his perfectly angular hair goes limp and changes from a pure brown to a duller darker shade, and his nose gets a little turned up and his chin gets less angular. He vomits up some horrible looking black mass onto the ground.
Morningstar buffs allies and spreads light over the whole area.Enlightenment disenchants any non-light based things on a target dude. Also fills them with DEEP REGRET.

Oh you see your family's eyes light up and they unleash a blitz of attacks into the Headhunter. That happens. But something continues to happen when Mage's spell cracks open the ice.The Ichor within the Headhunt gets vaporized. It turns into nothing and the Ice instantly melts. The small head of the child Three-Eye. It closes its eyes and goes still. The other three heads within the Headhunter open their mandibles and scream as they burst into flame. The head on the top has its eye 'eyes' melt, and then the skull melts too, as if it had been injected with White. When the Morning Star fades, there's just the small head of the child Crafter left on the ground. Lifeless, but at peace. You see decay slowly catch up to the head as the flesh and then bone quickly wither away and turn to dust.Lea sticks her head out the door and then closes it. "I think we're...whoa!"You turn. The entire mass of Joy Things are standing in front of your group. There has to be thirty of them. They look...awed and terrified. You killed That What Was Divine. A joy Thing is working up the courage to touch the fire. After a while she does. But something's wrong. This isn't the warm relief and release that happened when a Joy Thing touched you. You see the creature's body arch back in pain. You see the ichor within the frozen form bubble and hiss, turning into a black sludge, and you see the skull catch on fire, the eyes bubble and burst. Suddenly the skull splits open an there's a shriek of pain that causes all five/six of you to wince and cover your ears. You realize what happened. When a Joy touched you, it's soul was released. When a Joy touches fire...it's soul was obliterated. This city is filled with decent people or hapless slaves and other souls that did no wrong and haven't become part of that Crafter God-Thing.If they get set on fire, their souls will be ripped apart and destroyed. No journey. No peace. Just a painful obliteration. The Orcs are going to set off a giant firebomb that will torch the entire city.

>>26064174>beacon will just annihilate themNo no- it allowed that ONE CHILD to pass on. The rest were annihilated I think.Which means we could, theoretically, use the light and beacon to send these joys on their journey. Would it be so terrible if they lived?Well, er, "lived"?
>>26064174Beacon's light did the trick on the first one. Touching us and ours worked on two more.Either we ARE holy and it's the holystuff that does it, or the brillitite and anyone repeatedly exposed to it do the trick. Or both.
Rolled 11>>26064180I vote we start just Lamia-ing it up. Start being like the leviathan-brained half-dragon that we are.
>>26064087There's only one thing that can save their souls. We've gotta touch each and every last one of these poor souls. It's the only thing for it. Come on boys, this isn't the hard part. Just the really painful one.
>>26064087"They had better be freed when we break that staff. It would take me an age to address all these people without dying."
>>26064216The ones that touched us weren't annihilated. The one that touched the fire was.
>>26064180I want to get out of Mr. Echo's Moral Maze.
>>26064249Not the case. Beacon did it. Us setting off brillitite bombs would do the same.
Sorry orcs, we can't use the fire. It would destroy the souls of these monsters. The only moral thing to do is slay them all normally.
>>26064087Well, seems like we actually need to NOT use fire. Great. Awesome."Mage. We're going to the tower. I need you to think of a way to free everything in this city. We can't let them set fire to it."
>>26064278So we use the Staff head to annihilate the city and save everyone, but doom us to NOT getting the orcs help, OR we let the orcs obliterate everything and damn all of these souls to oblivion? Gods above this is hard.
We're going to end up writing a chapter or three in our book all about why the north sucks and we hate it for being cold and suckey.
>>26064330>cold and suckyAnd it smells bad. And the local wildlife are ugly. And there aren't any warm rocks. 0/5 stars, would not recommend.
>>26064325Not quite. We use the brillitite as a bomb, like we were going to do before, and free as many souls as we can. Then we let the orcs have their fun blasting everything else with fire.Nobody has to know, and as a paladin we can't allow all these souls to be annihilated. Our choice is made for us.
So, I think the solution is to channel a huge magic surge through beacon so its' unique holy properties can wash over the city.We happen to be in the process of stealing a giant magical reactor/explosive.I say we strap the power gem to beacon and light up the night.
>>26064360There are absolutely no puns or lewdness at all in those chapters and every few words is a swear in some language.
>>26064379Slight problem with that, the Brillite is powerful enough to annihilate the shell of Citadel Egg, what do you think its going to do to this ruin of a city besides leave it as a crater?
"Mage, put out the fire. Now." You say.Mage shoots the flame with a chunk of ice through the window. The flame dies out. The Joy Things look around for a while. Then they go back to huddling together in the shadows or under the stairs. Freezing, in pain, and unable to die. Waiting for salvation from their God...which they pray never comes."That's why they wanted us to come inside." Lea says. "They wanted us to free them."Tricia takes a moment to step away so she can vomit onto the ground and then staggers back to the group. "We can't do that again. I don't think a regular human could do even one.""Let's keep walking." Mage says. "I don't want to get stuck between another herd of those Sad Things or another of the Ice Things.""For once fire wasn't the right idea! We can't let the orcs just blow this place up." You say as you head further down the alley. "Okay," You say. "So touching life works, and the blast from Beacon worked on that one girl that was inside the Headhunter...I think." You say. "Can we use the Staff of Domination to set off a pulse or something?" You ask Mage. "Beacon's made from the same stuff.""Wouldn't that break our deal?" Tricia asks.Mari shakes her head. "The geas would stop and they'd still blow the cathedral. They wouldn't need to know about the other stuff."Mage closes his eyes and thinks for a bit. Then he frowns and shakes his head. "Yes...but that blast would use up the stone. We'd lose our shot at opening the Citadel Wall.""We have to do it. We'll find another way." Lea says."I'm sorry, Lea." Tricia says. "But what if Citadel is doing the same thing to our people right now? Do the souls of the dead take precedence over the souls of the living?""So what, we just let these souls be obliterated?" Mari asks."Better that than THIS piece of Darkness." Peri asks."You CAN'T let that happen!" Lea says. "What if we...""We HAVE to do this, SOON." Mage says. The other Dawnchasers do the same. Then you, Mage, and Tricia snap your fingers all at the same time as the memory comes back to you."The silos!" You all say at once. They're from your memories that were forcibly poured into you when you stepped within the city. You remember how the slave-lamia Joy girl lived, and you know that when she died, just as the same as Tricia's 'Nursemaid' they were given to the great silos within the Foundry. Giant tall vats filled with flesh, organs, blood, and all the spare parts and detritus that a Magical and Biology-based Fleshcrafting society would need.More importantly Mage's foundry worker had memories of the charms and spells keeping the things alive. If the Staff is holding, then there's a better than average chance that at least ONE of the silos would still have living flesh in it.If the Sad Things need the warmth of life to escape, then there's giant vats of the stuff for the claiming. There's just one problem. The silos are inside the Foundry. The Foundry is directly opposite of the Cathedral.

The moment we break the staff the Orcs will spring their attack, even if it's in the middle of the night. They've been waiting a damned long time for this.""Agreed." Lea says."So...if we manage to get to the Foundry, and if the vats of flesh are still 'alive' and if that stuff is what we need to let the Sad Things free their souls...do we have any idea at ALL what we're going to DO with it?" I'm sad we had to delegate most of the training to Adahn, I'd like to meet 3-5 bumbling cadets. Also, we need a day off really badly. >>26065444>how would that have turned outA lot more bounty hunting and fur trapping. And PLENTIFUL days off. Also, we'd probably not even be a paladin, since Lea's insisting we could be was key to that. Along with mari's prompting.

I wonder how things would have played out if we recruited plastic surgery minotaur instead of bondage punch nun.
