>Stardust city is an Demi-plane created by a powerful bard/wizard lich who turned to necromancy to continue in unlife and into eternity her pursuit of music.>Every year Stardust, whom the demi plane city is named after, invites all to her city in a grand artistic battle of music, dance, and combat for fame, glory, and bragging rights.>Do you have what it takes to be this year's winner? And thus forms the basis of a one off 3.5 game I wish to run with my group once we conclude our RT game. Would /tg/ be so kind as to offer ideas for contestants?
>>25952926This sounds pretty cool, give me a minute to think.
>>25952926Actually, OP, what are the limits of artistic expression? Are there categories? I mean, do we have sculptors competing against violinists, in a sort of massive talent show, or is it more structured?
>>25952926Are we inviting the artists from across time and space, or is it just from fantasy/medieval?Bronco Buck and the 7 Square DancersBucky, as he's known to friends, is said to be the greatest square dancer to ever live. He and his group of seven dancers perform incredible feats of acrobatic dancing skill...while wearing ten gallon hats and cowboy boots, which are on fire. The spurs of the boots are also on fire. The trails of fire forming intricate patterns and cutting close to the skin of other dancers is a big part of their routine. You can play them as naive country bumpkins so your players feel superior and then have them come out and squaredance them into the ground.
>>25953112It ranges the spectrum but the biggest event is the dance off battle of the bands. If you ever heard battle song by Del it's sorta like thathttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ShU5APE7wc>>25953145From across space and time, to encompass as many as possible. Outsiders included as well.
>>25953181Space and TIME? Freddie Mercury at the battle of the bands, also Elvis.
Klaus Nomi should be involved, considering how much he worked with Bowie. Other than that, any cool performer with a distinct mileau. Michael Jackson, Freddy Mercury, Lady Gaga, Daft Punk, Deadmau5. Figure out what artists your players like and include them too.
>>25953181Well, then you need to gather all kinds of historical figures and just throw them here and there for kicks. It could be blatant, or you could make a subtle reference. Have the party meet "Mikey" who is busy doing a Fresco on the ceiling of on of Stardust's halls.
>>25952926>Would /tg/ be so kind as to offer ideas for contestants?-Michael Jackson-Orpheus-Basara Nekki-Flying Steps-Paganini-Freddy Mercury
>>25953181Deltron 3030My negroid
>>25953245>OrpheusGood one. Good enough for Hades, good enough for Stardust.
>>25953242>It could be blatant, or you could make a subtle reference. We'll need the Dancer in White pasta in here ASAP.
>>25953256Wait>LichShe'll either consider him a favourite or a loser for defying death but failing.
>>25953242>It could be blatant, or you could make a subtle reference. The owner of the place is named "Stardust". It's not going to be subtle.
>>25953245>-Basara NekkiCan "We Are Electric" be a ritual spell they cast to get out should she turn out less than benevolent?
>>25952926Wrong! Star City is a bitchin race track with even more bitchin musichttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8boRM6xRXg
>>25953297Wait, quoted the wrong line. Meant the Flying Steps of course.
>>25953297>>25953308Dance magic? Is there a system where that's a thing?
>>25953303lmaoso much nostalgia
>>25953245Should Nujabes appear?
>>25953321>feels shit>lmao>no capitalization or punctuationEverything about this post is everything wrong with neo-/tg/
>>25953317http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViftZTfRSt8You're damn right it's a thing.
>>25953322Nujabes and/or JAM Project.
>>25952926David Bowie as the Goblin King.
>>25953334>quickly toss up a response to an interesting post reminding me of a great game I haven't played in ages>get out of my sooper-sekrit clubhouse u didnt right in the write way plebGet over yourself. To contribute:Literature is art. You could have a debate between great writers/philosophers as an aside to the main competition. Side mission: convince the naive and idealistic Freddy Nietzsche that he needs to be more realistic to win the debate.
>>25953347Every iteration of Bowie's character should be present.
something cool with Elvis would be nice.
>>25953375The iterations should form a band.
NOBODY has a bard-off without inviting the Goblin King!
>>25953245>>25953201>>25953233I'm loving this so far, here's what I've come up with so far, I have to take off for school after this so hopefully the thread still lives after I come back>Michael Jackson as The Dancer in WhiteA gaunt figure in immaculate white robes who's hand is studded with rare gemstones. A full moon seems to follow him when he dances>Freddie Mercury as Quick silver, the celestial championLeader of the celestial choir of the 7 Heavens, this assimar hair is as black as a starless night with a shine like polished metal. >David Bowie as the Goblin KingA Tiefling with wild hair who rules the unrulely mob of Goblin back-up singers who tend to him whims and commandsUgh, have to leave, please survive when I get back!
>>25953375>>25953395>>25953400...something glorious is happening...Come to think, if this is across time and space, you could invite any fictional character at all.
Am I... am I in the right place? It is as if I stumbled into Auberon's court!
>>25953403>Ugh, have to leave, please survive when I get back! You've got all day, /tg/ is slow
>>25953411That's why I suggested Macross. Also, intro should either be Scream by Michael Jackson or pretty much any Interstella 5555 clip.>>25953337>>25953324Nice song, nice video, but the dancing itself wasn't that... I dunno, hard to say.
It's fukken ON.
>>25953427Its Bowie kicking costumed midgets into the air whilst foisting a baby around. It is the very essence of Dance distilled into one moment.
>>25953418Ha!I suppose since the PCs are getting invites, they're all great artists themselves...but with the sheer breadth of the invitees, you'll need a way to put them into a party. How about all new attendees get shuttled into a room with a sort of "intro slide reel" similar to the beginning of Bioshock...only less eerie and more dramatically fabulous? That would serve to explain where they are, what they were doing, and give them a reason to stick together. That, or their room assignments could be in close proximity. I assume the competition will take place over at least several weeks to get all the action in.
>>25953466Can't argue with that, I suppose.
Even death itself can't hold him back; his voice will conquer this competition.
>>25952926There could be air elementals that pulse their own bodies to make soundwaves.
>>25952926Vampire artist who broods and wears long, dark leather coats. Typical 2edgy5me kid. He only paints in blood and all of his paintings are of incredible quality and depict happy landscapes. He is admired for his artistic skill, which he honed over the centuries. Also, the emo thing is a ruse, all part of a persona he puts on as an artist. He's quite a nice person, actually, and the blood is fake.
>>25953503And Chilly Down fire elementals.
>>25952926>Would /tg/ be so kind as to offer ideas for contestants?Keith Richards, presumably as a lich.Tom LehrerTom WaitsJohnny Cash
>>25953555I can see the earth elementals making sculpture/bonsai by planting themselves with seeds.
>>25953565Also, Ozzy Osbourne.
A bardbarian who is your typical Fabio kinda guy. He has 40 ranks in Perform: PosingHis biceps are his bardic instrument.
Clearly a party of this magnitude needs an antagonist.I'd say either the Time Police or the Death Enforcement Squad are coming in to crash the bash......and the only way to stop them...IS WITH THE POWER OF DANCE
>>25953578Ozzy Osbourne, Prince of Darkness. An incredibly coked out demon prince who still manages to rock the mic like nobody's business.
>>25953598The BBEG for this would obviously be...The Man.You fight against the Doldrums that he brings.(some might know what I am referring to)
Damwell Cobb One of the many illigeitmate children of Asmodeus he maintains the appearance of a slick young man with a well maintained beard and a suite with flame patterns around the cuffs while wearing boots and 10 gallon hat made from a slain marilithHie summons a fiddle into existence to call in dark spirits who square dance
>>25953473>Is a man not entitled to art on his canvas?>NO! Says the Lord of the Nine Hells! It belongs to the Pit!>NO! Says the death cultist! It belongs to Dread Sha'Blathgenzag!>NO! Says the cleric of Pelor! "In song and in danceI express myself as a member of a higher communityI have forgotten how to walk and speakI am on the way toward flying into the air, dancingMy very gestures express enchantmentI feel myself a godSupernatural sounds emanate from meI walk about enchanted, in ecstasy, like the gods I saw walking in my dreamsI am no longer an artistI have become a work of artWelcome to the pleasure dome"
>>25953532As artistic as that is, its not music related.
The party is eventually crashed by the thunderous and fiery appearance of the Four Kings: the Warlord, the Defender, the Master of the Wind, and the Dark Avenger. Together, they are led by the Immortal Warrior, the avatar and supreme champion of heavy metal. He is the Lord of Steel and the King of Kings, and he bears the sacred crown and the ring of providence. They never really join the party per se, but set up camp just outside the city and raise a great mead-hall that echoes with the sound of thunder and the roar of the crowd.
There's graffiti all over the city that says "Kilroy was here." Everybody has seen it, but nobody has met Kilroy. If you're persistent and lucky, however, you'll meet someone who can whisper the legend to you...
>>25952926I, for one, am really interested in the character Stardust. Who is she? Why did she decide to do all this? Her backstory could play into things as a sidequest/segment of the main quest.
The Red Iron Giant King's court have made Stardust city a regular destination as they travel the planar circuit known only as the Megaroad. King Basara, with his red iron skin and spectacles, is a statuesque figure that many could fear if he was not well known as a staunch pacifist. The few who have forced him to wield his axe Fire Bomber tell tales that he can make planets dance.Another amongst the court, the young Count Tenor, has drawn much attention with his aerial dances, enough that he has attracted the attention of both the Little Queen of Cats and the Stellar Fairy, rival songstresses.
>>25954032I hadn't really puzzled her out yet. I just had the thought of a perky bard/wizard lich who decapitated herself, stuffed her head in a box somewhere and walks around with an enchanted disco ball for a head while the rest of her body looks relatively normal (permancy gentle repose)She's like an amalgam of Ulala and Jem
>>25954521So, is her decapitated head her own phylactery? Could be interesting. You could always go the permanently enigmatic-mysterious route. Sometimes the best characters are the ones you never learn everything about...or about which there are many hints and rumors, but few explanations. The sprawling theories can become more satisfying than the truth.
>>25954595That would probably be best I could imagine someone wanting to uncover what's under the disco ball (it's not universally known she's a lich)
This is a great setting OP.Post how it went sometime, notes, stuff like that. Sounds like something I'd want to run myself!
>>25954697>>25952926Agreed. I'm already interested in running the same/similar idea in one of my own games. It's absolutely brilliant the kinds of things one could incorporate!
>>25954697It will be a while before I run it. Chances are I will inherite the role of gm from our current one ( the one running the rt game) since he deploys in October. I just wanted to set the ground work for the ge when that happens
>>25952926Here's your theme music when you describe Stardust City.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OE_p1mCVLWA
Danny *ELF*man needs to make an appearancehttp://youtu.be/jItz-uNjoZA
>>25953362Is Freddy Nietzsche part of Überkönigin?
>>25953858Hey look, his barbarian envoy are playstation buttons.
>>25954753I would imagine something more funky and electronic, considering she has a disco ball for a head.
The King Crimson is an eldritich abomination beyond comprehension. Not actively malevolent, but still terrifying to behold.
>>25954917That's a good point. She can have a different personal theme song, though, right?I imagined that played as the party was flown over the city or something, taking in the soaring towers and the view of the demiplane.>>25954972by Jove I think we've done it
>>25954972This should definitely be her theme. I can see it now. Her minions perform while she descends on a floating platform, disco ball head shining fabulously.
A bardic contest is not complete without a bardbarian band, crying out their battlehymns to the old gods. Ten burly barbarians in various states of dress or undress, draped in your standard furs, leathers and talismanic trinkets.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptQW_Yhg9Jg
>>25955002You, I like you.
>>25954907Yeah, they've put those in the illustrations for a while now. They also have occasional light arrays in those shapes during live concerts. I'm not really sure why.
>>25955002So what do we do with YesGenesisRushPink Floyd?
>>25955315Yes and Rush are denizens of the Outlands, a strange dimension of floating isles and bizarre landscapes and architecture where the Evensong always plays and the Snowdog battles evermore with the Dark Prince By-Tor.
bumping cool thread
The Paladin from the Paladin vs. Lich rap battle thread.
I'm thinking players could take home prizes/souvenirs from the performances, too.Maybe the party bard walks out of Stardust City with John Lennon's guitar, and it functions like a Masterwork +5 Lute or something of the sort.Somebody could write the lyrics to a song in the Wizard's spellbook, and it would function as a new high-level spell that they can cast.Somebody's drumstick could be.. I dunno.. a sap? Or sharpened to a dagger?
I dont know if he has been mentioned yet but if anyones a bard it's Tom Waits. He may not be a boogie-mancer or a disco wizard but this rouge bard will steal your heart
archived the thread for future browsingAlso, bump for OP
>>25958490i play my bard as a mix of tom waits and eugene hutz
Has led zeppelin been mentioned? Also, not to be a huge bag of dicks but I don't care about OP original request. I just want this to be a thing. Like a actual standalone game.
>>25959593Like if D&D met Guitar Hero / Rock Band?
