Welcome to Dune Quest. This quest will be set within the Dune Universe. If you are familiar with the Dune Universe that is great: we'll be starting a millennium or two before the events of the first book and the prequels never happened, and while I'm going to do a bit of an info dump for people who don't know the series you should skim through to see how I'm interpreting specific things. If you aren't familiar with Dune then prepare for a very necessary info dump, but keep a few things in mind.>1. The Spice must flow.>2. Wheels within wheels within wheels: It's never simple. Never take what NPCs say at face value, and always assume someone is trying to deceive you in some capacity.>3. If tldr is a problem this probably isn't the quest for you. I write slowly and I write a lot.>4. When the plot moves, it moves. When it doesn't move it's because there is important information that needs to be absorbed. I'll try to keep it brief, but I can't keep it simple.>5. Subtlety is a good idea. There are plenty of hot blooded characters in the Dune Universe, but they round this out by being clever.>6. The Spice must flow.>7. Fear is the mind killer. Have balls.>8. The Spice must flow. For real. With that said, prepare for a huge info dump.(3-4 posts)
>The Padishah EmpireHumanity is ruled over by an Emperor who sits on the Golden Lion Throne. For millennia the rulers of House Corrino have inherited the title of Padishah Emperor, the Shah of Shahs. The Emperor, in theory, commands all of humanity as subjects and determines, with input from the Landsraad, the laws that mankind must follow. In practice however the Emperor is very powerful but always works to keep rival Major Houses from trying to usurp his power, and is answerable to powerful monopolies like the Spacing Guild or the influence of deeply entrenched groups like the Bene Gesserit and the Bene Tleilaxu, and is always under pressure by the Landsraad. The Emperor's Legions of Sardaukar are only matched in strength by the combined might of all of the Landsraad's military power, and so the Landsraad keeps an eye on the Emperor so he doesn't pick them off one by one while the Emperor works to keep the Landsraad divided so that they may not challenge him. The planet Kaitain, under the rule of House Corrino, is the capital of the Imperium.>The Landsraad and CHOAMThe Landsraad is made up of Houses both Major and Minor, the Landsraad provides a forum for matters of trade and politics, and oversees Kanly feuds as well as deciding if a House should be banished or not. They are ruled by a High Council on which the Emperor has a voice. Major Houses have the greatest voting power, Minor Houses have a lesser vote, and the Emperor's House has a powerful vote as well. However the Emperor is answerable to the High Council on certain issues of law, such as conventions on trade and warfare. The Spacing Guild allows Landsraad business to be conducted at no cost.cont'd
CHOAM, or the Combine Honnete Ober Advancer Mercantiles, is essentially the OPEC of the far future. It is essentially a major corporation that churns out profits and dividends for shareholders and directors, and it is run by the Landsraad and the Emperor. It controls inter-stellar trade, and most importantly trade involving spice melange. Directorships can be given out and revoked by the Emperor or Landsraad, though technically the Emperor has the final say. The Spacing Guild and the Bene Gesserit are silent partners in CHOAM. Many Houses depend upon a share of CHOAM profits to survive, and the bulk of CHOAM profits come from the Spice trade.>SpiceIt must flow.Technically called Spice Melange, it is found only on one place, and that place is the planet Arrakis. It has a number of properties, and almost singularly supports the possibility of interstellar empire. It's attributes are as follows:-Expanded sensory perception: Amongst other abilities it grants limited prescience to certain individuals, including the Bene Gesserit but most especially Guild Navigators. Guild Navigators use this prescience to chart paths through fold space in order to avoid crashing Spacing Guild ships into asteroids, nebulas, stars, or planets, and thus Spice is key to travel throughout the empire. Without it goods and people could not move through the Imperium and communication would be lost.-Health benefits: Life expectancy triples. Health in general is fortified, and one is less susceptible to sickness and injury.-Exceedingly Addictive: The more you take the more you need. If you don't meet your need you will die. Period.-Physical Changes: The eyes become blue. Blue on blue eyes, with the eye color changing first before the whites of the eye become blue themselves. This is especially notable amongst natives of Arrakis.cont'd
>The Spacing GuildThey have a monopoly on interstellar transportation. If you want to go somewhere and not take decades to centuries to get there you need these people. If you want to send goods, people, or information through the Imperium, you need these people. Guild families are a powerful merchant class, and Guild Navigators are powerful prescients upon whom the process hinges. Guild Navigators exist in giant tanks pumped full of spice gas, and they would die outside of their spice tanks. Their fingers and toes are webbed, and their blue eyes are almost alien.>The Bene Gesserit, the Ixians, and the Bene TleilaxuThe Bene Gesserit are a sisterhood of unknown origin. They are deadly combatants, exhibit all manner of strange powers, and train the daughters of Landsraad nobles as well as providing them with wives and concubines. They are known to be engaging in a massive breeding project in order to create some sort of superman. They have influence in every court and are always dangerous. The Ixians come from a planet on the outer edges of the Imperium. They do not follow the prohibitions against Thinking Machines established after the Butlerian Jihad, and they utilize all manner of technologies that, while useful, cannot be widely produced outside of their planet due to restrictions on production. They also train Mentats, human beings who can utilize their brains as though they were advanced computer systems. They are responsible for most technological innovations in this day and age.The Bene Tleilaxu are another fringe society. They specialize in the growth of clones, shape shifting face dancers, resurrected gholas, organ and spare part growth, twisted mentats, specially conditioned slaves, genetically modified species, and any number of genetically crafted beings they might dabble in for power and profit. They are ruled over by Tleilaxu Masters who have Face Dancer slaves. Their women are never seen.cont'd
>Religion, Technology, and WarThe primary religion of the Imperium is Orange Catholicism, a comfortable syncretic faith asserted by the interfaith community at the conclusion of the Butlerian Jihad. It was widely rejected by most traditional faiths as being exceedingly heretical, but promoted by the mostly agnostic ruling class as a convenient puppet show in order to keep the masses in line. Other religions remain, most especially elements of Islam, some Christianity here and there, and your occasional Hindu. The Jews are thought to exist but have been in hiding for a very long time.Technology is built with the caveat (outside of Ix) that it cannot mimic the mind of a human in any way. Computers are banned, Thinking Machines are banned, and anything that doesn't require the direct control of a human being is suspect. Millennia ago humanity fought a war against Thinking Machines for their independence after spending centuries wallowing in laziness caused by having those machines do all of their work and thinking for them. Only the Ixians regularly get away with inventions and goods that violate the Thinking Machine prohibition in this age.Combat is largely dictated by the existence of the personal shield generator. The personal shield is a shimmering field of energy that stops anything with too great a relativistic speed from traveling through it and hitting the person wearing it. This means bullets are largely ineffective save against unprepared or unshielded enemies, and only slow moving and thus avoidable darts are employed regularly as projectile weapons. What is exceedingly common is the use of bladed weapons of all types, from knives to swords, in order to reach past an opponent's personal shields. Most fighting takes place face to face, blade to blade.end of info dump
Can i me a mentat?
You are the young heir to a Major House. Just as you have come of age your father has been assassinated. But first, let's talk about your House.>What kind of homeworld do your people hail from? What sort of climate does it have? What sort of people live there? Ethnicity? Religious preferences?
tl;drYeah, no, sign me the fuck up. This sounds sweet. Any relation to the other Dune Quest?
>>25781510Are you referring to the Beatles' classic I Me Mentat?>>25781511Zensunni for victory!(is that an option? Or is it more of an individual thing?)
>>25781510If you wish to have that training.>>25781518I know of no other Dune Quest.>>25781530That comes down to what your family believes, since most of the ruling class is agnostic. I'll give you that option later. But if your local populace is Zensunni or some other Islamic branch that's quite fine as well.
>>25781511Our homeworld is a stark, mountainous planet, orbiting a blue star; the people are clever and hard-working and Jews!
I'm going to grab a pizza while the info dump is digested. Be back in 30 or so.
>>25781530Why not, let's be a zensunni house keeping the old faith alive.
>>25781624Works for me, except for the religion part. I'd rather not have us be unique snowflakes.
>>25781511I don't know a thing about dune other than HOUSE HARKONNEN but here goes.Homeworld: Augustin Prime, a single-climate tundra world. Bitter, frozen and relentless, much like the hardy nomad-populace that lives there. Their lives are spent moving, always in search of more favourable positions to make camp for the yearly eclipse which plummets temperatures way below the norm.
>>25781530I'm cool with being a Zensunni.>>25781511Arid, but not a desert world. Mountainous with lots of tectonic activity, so lots of volcanoes. High gravity and an abundance of heavy elements. Mostly a world of mining and industry.
>>25781763>>25781624Let's combine these, plus zensunni and we're set!
>>25781511... I kinda want to Ginaz because swords and mercenaries.I'll play it like Mandalore and have it led by space Syrio Forel. But I'll defer to the majority.
>>25781829Crap, >>25781783 too.A mountaineous tundra world where tribes travel from volcanic area to next in search of heat. When the winter comes they settle and dig, giving the birth for industry.
>>25781843What are Ginaz and Mandalore?
>>25781871Ginaz is an ocean planet renowned for its techniques in swordplay and its mercenaries in the DUNE verse.Mandalorian is a religion(?) in the Star Wars universe, very martial focused.
>>25781511A planet much like our own earth. Because it's familiar and has every kind fo resources.
>>25781859The people can live in these. Basically, a factory, housing block, everything on wheels. We just move from one volcanic activity to another for heat, fertile ground, and harvesting metal.
>>25781859Mountaineous frozen tundra on top of magma flows and geothermal vents? Literally have to fight our way out of the surface in order to get into space.
>>25781930>>25781978...did we just invent space dwarves?
>>25782008Either squats or recreated Hoth.
>>25782008Zensunni Space Dwarves. That live in tanks.
>>25781511Very cold and mountainous.
>>25782079>I'm okay with this.jpg
Keep in mind, lots of volcanic activity+high gravity=thick, toxic atomosphere. That means our zensunni tank driving space dwarves will need breathing equipment or mutated lungs.
>>25782201So Helghast then?
>>25782212Not a bad analogy, actually.
>>25782201Volus? Nah, just kidding.Well, we can make each tank a clan - each one has its own peculiar pattern of environment suits they wear. The older and richer the family, the more ornate the suit.
>>25782227YESALL THE SNAPPY UNIFORMS
>>25782201Fine by me, what doesn't kill us make us stronger if the Fremen and Sardaukar are any indication.
>>25782243>>25782240>>25782235>>25782227>>25782212So we're Zensunni tank driving Quarian space dwarf Nazis.
>>25782280If you want to put it that way, yeah.
I wonder if the OP is still alive?
>>25782280Muslim gypsy Nazi jews? That drive tanks?
>>25782319Yeah, he said he'll be back in a while. This is going to be a slow quest, so chillax.>>25782323/pol/ would implode from this.
>>25782323Nomadic muslims living in mobile fortress towns sounds a better way to put it.
This cold acclimation is gonna bite us in the ass once we get to Arrakis. Let's do it.>What kind of homeworld do your people hail from?Mountainous and high tectonic activity seems to be the majority. I'm okay with that.>What sort of climate does it have?Cold all year round, it seems.>What sort of people live there?Tank nomads, industrialized.>Ethnicity? Religious preferences?Zensunni. What say we include our military capability while we're at it? OP seems to be taking a while.
>>25782363Obviously we're mostly going to have mechanized infantry, heavy artillery, and tanks.
>>25782363What if we're a major supplier of starship parts? Our home world is rich in rare elements required for flobistomic gyromphaloses or something.
>>25782363tanks! build more tanks!
>>25782363Potent, but all is linked to the tanks cities who are the main reason nobody fucks with us.
>>25782380>mechanized infantry, heavy artillery, and tanks.Don't you mean tank infantry, tank infantry launchers and tanky tanks?
>>25782380I wonder if personal shields would stop someone from being killed by a car.
>tank citiesThis is relevant to my interests.
>>25782380We wouldn't probably have a very good tradition of melee weaponry, since exosuits are common and would replace the personal shields. We might even still cling to chemical slugthrowers for warfare needs, making us look antiquated among other houses.
Your homeworld is called Augustin Prime. It is the only habitable planet in its solar system. It orbits quickly around a blue star that just barely keeps the planet from turning into a ball of ice.The people of your planet are Zensunnis who fled persecution millenia ago. They decided that the harsh nature of the planet would suit them and deter potential slavers from following and harassing their populations. As time went on they scored a number of lucrative contracts to provide heavy metals needed for Guild spacecraft, and worked up a beneficial agreement with the Spacing Monopoly. Eventually your family was recognized as the planetary authority and your status as a Siridar Baron was recognized and you were granted status initially as a minor house. The people of Augustin Prime must wear breathing apparatuses for most of the year because of low oxygen content in the atmosphere. However seasonally there are massive volcanic eruptions along tectonic rifts on the planet's surface, and it is at this point that the planet's life bursts into activity after almost a year of dormancy: with water released into the atmosphere and large amounts of carbon dioxide suddenly available jungle springs up suddenly around these volcanoes and for several months no breathing apparatuses are required in their vicinity. All manner of creatures spring to life out of dormancy or incubation at this time. Boys are sent into the jungle to survive until it begins to wane along with the heat and air, and they then must find their way back in order to return as men or perish if the jungle's dangers don't get them first.>Does your family keep the faith, or is it all a puppet show like it is for the other houses?>Did you move into other systems through trade, diplomacy, or force?
>>25782363Sire, Forecasts are in for the coming ice storms, we will need to reinforce observation windows before then
>>25782427Nah, they only stop really high speed impacts like bullets. A car would pass through.
>>25782380Keep the personal shields in mind. I think artillery shells with a concussive charge would work though. They'd send enemies flying without doing any direct damage, allowing our infantry to run in and dispatch them quickly while they try to get up.
>>25782363We'd be experts at industry and recycling. Lots of redundant systems, proficient at technology although not at the level of Ix. Being fairly religious and spartan we'd follow the Butlerian edicts against thinking machines seriously. For military, maybe a mixture of firepower, mobility and elite units? Can't be too many of us in such a hostile environment but our soldier are good and we have the tanks/guns/grit to back it up.
(And yes, the nomadic mech cities will be a thing. Just getting the big things painted out first.)
>>25782453>Did you move into other systems through trade, diplomacy, or force?Primarily trade, though force is not out of the table.
>>25782453We keep the faith. Also, trade.
>>25782453>Our family keeps the faith. We were raised very devout.>We moved primarily into other systems through trade, but if we couldn't sway them with goods force was our next choice.
>>25782453Let's be traditionalists who keep the faith. We're known for our martial prowess, and several of our ancestors were generals or mercenary-captains.
>>25782466...we could have mechs.
>>25781387>Dune questAre you going to write about the Tleilaxu? They were always my favorite.
>>25782512Mechs don't fit very well in the Dune universe.
>>25782453>Does your family keep the faith, or is it all a puppet show like it is for the other houses? We keep the faith.>Did you move into other systems through trade, diplomacy, or force?Force
>>25782512Mechs don't really fit DUNE. I don't know. Maybe it's because on Arrakis they'd be sucked into the sands.
>>25782521 You're one of the few Zensunni communities, and a Major House at that. Of course.
>>25782453>Does your family keep the faith, or is it all a puppet show like it is for the other houses? One must be practical, for the people are strong of faith, as leaders we must be above and among them. Practicing but very much puppet.>Did you move into other systems through trade, diplomacy, or force?Trade, in rare cases force.
>>25782453We keep the faith. Gotta stick to dem traditions, man.We expand primarily through trade, with force as a secondary tool. You know, you can buy our goods or we can make you buy our goods.
>>25782526>>25782543True. Too bad, they'd kinda work for our space dwarves as machines they use for mining and construction and such.
>>25782550What's the connection between zensunnis and bene Tleilaxu?
>>25782580That's be spoileriffic.
>>25782512Impractically large wheeled or tracked vehicles seem a better fit.
>>25782580Bene Tleilax were one of the few hardline Zensunni groups, and they're extremely xenophobic.
>>25782466>we'd follow the Butlerian edicts against thinking machines seriously.Would mechanical computers count?
>>25782613Nah, mechanical components don't emulate a human brain.
>>25782550Oh good. As long as we get them involved, I will be happy. Like I said, they were my favorite aspect of the entire series. I love the idea of cloning, face-dancers intrigued me, and Ill be damned if their plotting wasnt the most fun, if not subtle.
>>25782595>A standard Augustinian Hab Mobile.
>>25782641Light scout vehicle, you meant?
>>25782595Wouldn't they attract the worm? You know, when we get on Dune.
>>25782664Yeah, they would. We're going to face some major difficulties if we get to Arrakis. Dune-verse is big though, it encompasses like three galaxies.
>>25782664Probably. I'm sure that will be a problem for us.
>>25782682>>25782692Obviously we need to engineer a machine that moves without a rhythm.
Caravan of mobile hab units, as seen from the ground.
>>25782702>this machine is pleasing to my sensibilities
>>25782702Wouldn't that be about the size of a Spice Factory+a big ass cannon?
>>25782651What are you talking about? This is on the market for a new family on the go, includes portable shower, modest kitchen and 115 mm caliber gun. Contact local realtor for further details!
>>25782747Large family? We have a solution for that!Fuckin' love concept art websites.
>>25782641>no turret height >no gun depression>massive weakspot at default "shoot here" height on the upper glacis>no mantlet>sides aren't angled>shot traps, shot traps in every direction>independent power to all four tracks makes maintenance a bitch and a half0/10 see me after class
I fucking love this quest already, and we haven't even started.
>>25782802Dune is just a fantastic setting.
>>25782717Something like this could probably move over sand without creating nearly as much disturbance as wheels or tracks.
Guys, how do the cannons work if explosions don't hurt people, just knock them about? Incendiary rounds, maybe?
>>25782830>Tank rounds that explode into napalm.Jesus christ how horrifying.
>>25782827>not a subterreneImagine it, a thing that drills underground and pops out and shoots shit. It's like our own mechanized sandworm>>25782453Trade, then force, then diplomacy. We're like a mafia.
>>25782830We harvest the volcanoes' vented poison gas, store them and put them in our tank rounds.
>Arrakis' face when, we arrive with our heavy tanks and personal shields.https://images.4channel.org/f/src/Breakmaster%20Cylinder%20-%20Mr%20Sandman.swf
>>25782830Don't forget poison gas. Our men are already used to wearing fully enclosed suits and respirator masks to protect against the brutal climate of their home world. Less so for the average enemy.
>>25782884>personal shields, on the desert planet Arrakis>SANDWORMS>SANDWORMS EVERYWHERE>>25782886So, I guess we're House Ordos?
>>25782917Exactly, Dune will rape us.
>>25782830Well, probably. Our primary problem was ice and, in case we got in fights with one another, another hugeass tank.So we favor napalm strikes, flamethrowers, and incendiary ammo that's capable of melting through everything. Also, because we need to take out the enemy tank's crew, they probably are highly poisonous and emit a toxic gas.So, to summarize.Acidic flamethrowers capable of melting tanks.
>A portrait of one of our royal ancestors.
>>25782458Do personal shields work against overpressure? Because artillery shells mostly kill via overpressure. The sudden increase in ambient pressure can damage internal organs and even, in particularly nasty cases, pop them like water balloons.>>25782572Warmechs are impractical, but we could have powerloaders like in Aliens be a thing. They just wouldn't have much of any effect on the game beyond being fluff.>>25782717https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ7z57qrZU8>>25782747If that's a 115, there's no WAY the vehicle has room for all that. Pic is a Leopard II MBT, used by the German Bundeswehr. It uses a 120mm. Note the comparative scale.
>>25782886Christ, at this rate we'll be making Atomics look like a mercy.
Your family keeps the faith. You believe strongly in your religion, and your people can sense it. While you are regarded as an oddity amongst the Great Families you have noticed both the Bene Tleilaxu and the Bene Gesserit take an interest in your House's activities.Your House went from a House Minor to a House Major whenever you utilized your preferential Spacing Guild contract to try and grab market share in several nearby solar systems. Whenever resistance manifested in the form of several Houses Minor aligning against you your great grandfather annihilated them in a lightning quick war of assassins and you consolidated alliances with the rest. For the first time your Family Name was noted in Landsraad meetings as you become a power.>What is your family name?>Animal (mythical or real)?>Colors?
>>25782959Personal shields deflect anything moving quickly enough, so I imagine they'd absorb the force of a shockwave to prevent it from hurting the person wearing the shield. They'd still be screwed if the pressure was raised slowly or if they weren't thrown back by the shockwave.
>>25782886In enclosed spaces we wouldn't even need the gas. Start controlled fires to burn out all the oxygen. If we wind up having to fight against the Fremen (I really hope we don't but we should be prepared to, just in case) we can literally suffocate them inside there own sietches, the enclosed tunnels turning against them.
GENTLEMEN: BEHOLD! DELIBERATELY DESIGNED TO RANDOMIZE IT'S MOVEMENT WHILE KEEPING A STEADY PACE. ALSO GONNA SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF THE FREMEN IF WE MAKE 'EM BIG ENOUGH.
>>25782941I imagine we have a hefty stockpile of stoneburners and other assorted nuclear weapons. No House Major would be caught dead without them. (They'd just be dead.)
OP I just read the first post and I am excited as fuck for this.
>>25782972>Family nameHmm...I actually like that House Ordos idea posted earlier.>AnimalSomething known for its hardiness. Like, an armadillo or something. Not sure.
>>25782972The animal is an armadillo.
>Tanks>Chemical Weapons>Atomics>NapalmAll likely to get us in huge trouble since they indiscriminately target civilian populations.
>>25782972>Al-Kali>snow egret>methane ice blue and zinc white
>>25782972>What is your family name?House Talos>Animal (mythical or real)?A tunneling, volcanic lizard our people just call a Salamander.>Colors?Orange and white.
>>25783034>implying it ever comes to open warfare
>>25782972House SiivestiUnicorn (harmless unless provoked)Blue (represents our icy homeworld), and Purple (our ambitions)
>>25783034>Tanks>Napalm>Chemical WeaponsNot necessarily.>AtomicsYes, we'd get in huge fucking trouble.
>>25782972We are House Styrkar.>Animal?pic>Colors?Crimson and purple.
>>25783029>>25783031>armadillo>not a pangolinAlso, our house color should be that brassy tone on the edges of pic related's armor plates.
>>25783034As long as we avoid the big A and SPICE FLOWS, we're good.
>>25783036I'll second this.
>>25783029>AnimalSpider. Tough, sneaky, deadly and its webs reach far
>>25783062A rampant turtle would look just silly.
>>25782993I like the way you think>>25783029Ew, no. House Ordos was pretty meh compared to Atreides and Harkonnen.OP, maybe we should have people roll instead? It seems likely that people won't agree on stuff like colors and animals - too many variables.
>>25783086I like it.
>>25783036>>25783048A combination of these two. Al-Kali for family name, Salamander because it fits our volcanic theme, and blue and white because it's cool as shit.>>25783060What most of those would save us in manpower it would cost us in lengthy and expensive legal arguments in the Landsraad.
>>25782972House name: Orichalcum.Animal: Pangolin.Color: Brass and White.
>>25783086Is that thing real?
>>25783034Its ok. Nobody goes to war because of MAD. The big boys all wage war with diplomacy, trade agreements and assassinations
If we do something like a Pangolin or Armadillo it needs to be adapted for a tundra climate. AKA, it needs to be furry.
>>25783086How about an armadillo lizard?
>>25783120>>25783086Seconding these two.Pangolins are so boss.
>>25783086Okay I agree that thing looks cooler.
>>25782992Hang on, why are we fighting Fremen already? I think we should finish making the house, see what the political landscape is like, strengthen our position, then deal with Dune.>>25783048I like this.
>>25783141Is that a real live ouroboros?
>>25783136The Atreides were killed when they were blitzed by ten legions of Sardaukar and a bunch of Harkonen troops. War happens, but it's fast and legally restricted. Plus it's against the spirit of Dune to be spamming tanks and artillery etc.
>>25783127Yes. It's a Pangolin. They're both really cool, and frigging adorable.>>25783161>why are we fighting Fremen alreadyWe aren't, but we should be prepared to. Wheels within wheels, have a plan for EVERYTHING.
So, the Fremen have their Crysknives, should we have anything like that? Personal items and such considered borderline sacred?
House Asmodai.Pangolin.White and Brass.
>>25783199Yeah, it's more about tactical strikes with elite teams than spamming infantry in Dune.
>>25783199>Plus it's against the spirit of Dune to be spamming tanks and artillery etc.Unless you're on Arrakis and you're playing Dune II.
>>25783235Ice blades that never melt?
>>25783235Qur'an, of course. Original versions straight from Earth.
>>25783235Our breathing apparatus?
>>25783235Hmm. Gonna steal this idea from Dragonlance, but>Frostreavers>Made from reinforced ice, it's given out a sign of passage that you survived the jungles that spring up during the time of the Flowering

>>25783240It was 300,000 of the most elite troops in the Imperium plus the Baron's men.>>25783241meh
>>25783235Our deal is volcanos right? How about Obsidian?
>>25783265Alternatively, prayer beads of some kind. Rugs with abstract designs telling the family history. A bronze bowl for performing the wudu.
>>25783293>Have to go all the way through the Jungle to the lava fields and back to become a man>Obsidian knife is proofBrilliant.
>>25783308Let's run with this.
>>25783269Since we're apparently down with space Islam, we might attach a religious significance to our house's stylized gas masks and environmental suits in much the same way that modern muslims keep to their traditional dress.
>>25783269>>25783343I like this idea.
>>25783308Sounds good>>25783343Maybe have the suits be very Quarian in nature, except with more armor.

>>25783308I like this obsidian blades idea. Since they break easily they'd be pretty useless in combat, but perhaps they're used for personal hygiene since they keep a sharp edge? Our people customarily shaves their entire head so it has better fit with the breathing apparatus and exo suit?

>>25783532It's not real hair, it's more like thin silica strands. Very heat resistant.

I guess we're pretty much done here, next thread when OP?
>>25784859Real toughies. And no one wants to see that again.
There seems to be a slight preference for a Neutral reputation as far as I can tell. Some votes have left me puzzled though. I may come back to this one, or let you hang in the middle. You have had other opportunities since then, however. Your House has had the chance to curry favor with a number of other groups and develop ties and tentative guarantees of favors with them. Spend up to three points on any of the following, all three can be spent on one, or divided as you like.>House CorrinoThe Throne. The Emperor's House. He can help you in a lot of ways, but when he comes calling on you to pay it back it would be prudent to do so. Some people will think you're a toady and watch you carefully.>Bene GesseritYou've helped the Sisters from time to time. They think you have interesting traits in your bloodline and have come calling before. It's possible you may be tested to determine whether or not you are "human".>Bene TleilaxuThey don't like people, but they do trade. It's possible that you might even have met some of their more important Masters, and they may send emissaries to your Court periodically.>IxiansThe Ixians dig technology and so do you. Maybe you've sold them resources they can utilize at a discount, maybe you've commissioned devices that have caught their interest, or maybe they just like you.>GinazMercenaries extraordinaire. A level ten swordmaster of ginaz goes virtually unchallenged outside of the Sardaukar, and the chance to hire or borrow some of these fine individuals wouldn't hurt you.>BhotaniAssassins, a sect of them have become so wealthy they've managed to found House Moritani. >>25785104Only if you accept the prequel novels as the same level of canonicity of the original works. IMO, you really, really shouldn't
Rolled 2>>25785417That's not an opinion Pete, it's a fact. I mean it's not even that they're BAD, they're just plain mediocre and not on the level of the original work. Less like Highlander 2 and more like the Matrix sequels.
>>25785417... I based it on Emperor: Battle for Dune. I-is that as bad?And I'm reading OP's posts with Lady Elara's voice, while listening to Harkonnen Battle.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=likJ7i9qMYMNon-contribution sage.
Wouldn't it make more sense for Ixians and Tleilaxu to get along better than, well, most people get along with Tleilaxu? It seems like Tleilaxu take a much more technological approach to genetic modification after all.
>>25785630They can do business just like anybody else, but their view on genetics? Well, uh... you'd have to read to the end of the original series. They play the long game.
Tleilaxu and Niners are top tier.
>>25785622Great game. Ordos were really fucked up.
I'd like to cast a vote for Guild, Ix and Tlielaxu as well
>>25785425Are the BG as suited for Ganking as a family of assassins, though? The Guild is obvious: our House history is on their good side and we supply them with a whole lotta material goods. The Ixians would love our ore, and might give us cheap tech in exchange for a steady stream of raw materials Yes, this is shit economics, sure meOur third group is either the Tleilaxu (crazy genetic engineer bastards) who have access to cool tech, but are probably gonna clash with the Zensunni in us (if not for the reveals behind their biotech)WHile having House Corrino as an ally (fuck YES imperial family shortcuts), that road is usually incestuous, bloody, and ends in extremely petty Imperial infighting. Not Assassins... not high key enough to mark us as targets (Like the Atreides had befall them), but still useful enough that we could throw our weight around if we needed to
>>25785656I'm still reading Children of Dune, man I need to catch up.
>>25785711I agree with this esteemed gentleman, being the original proposer of this suggestion.

>>25785766We're getting Bene Tleilaxu. They're nearly as deadly, and four times as likely to attack us if we're not allies. On the other hand, Bene Gesserit HAVE no allies. Only Convenient Dupes.
>>25785622Dune 2000 was ballin'! Good pick! It's a shame. i read the Dune prequels in my teenaged years, and I still find they informa air bit of the series prehistory, even if the actual plotting and writing was sub-par at best.I still find myself thinking of the Atreides and Ixians as buddy-buddy, even when they ought to be at serious odds. Also, wasn't the Thinking Machines on Ix kind of a rumored thing? Nothing was substantiated or proven, but the rumors persisted and peopled whispered about it behind their backs
>>25785781Like how you can have laser tanks fire on other shielded laser tanks and a thermonuclear explosion WON'T happen?
Am I correct in tallying the votes in favor of Ix, Guild, and Tleilaxu? Or am I off? Anybody care to double check?I'm glad to have so many Dune fans on board so early.
