I miss duel masters, the new duel masters, what are they called, Kaijudo? kind of seem like shit.
I tried to play it with some friends, but nobody really got into it. Does WoTC blame the shitty anime for it not selling?
>>24870982They never said why they cut it, they just sort of winded down production.I was having fun playing this game with my brother, didn't even have a problem with not having a lot of people to play with since each of us had a couple decks and we'd randomly swap and stuff.
I took a couple more photos, nobody cares but I'll post them anyway.
That's the last one.
>>24870934It was just babby's first magic the gathering. Like they intentionally have very similar mechanics.
>>24871208>It was just babby's first magic the gathering. You say it like its a bad thing. it eliminated one of the most irritating parts of magic (for me, at least) wasting half your deck space on mana cards.
Those cards look pretty sweet.Too bad I'm much too invested in Magic to even think about picking up another card game.
>>24871253>Those cards look pretty sweet. They do, Duel Masters had plenty of great cards.>Too bad I'm much too invested in Magic to even think about picking up another card game.Even if you weren't, Duel Masters is dead, Kaijudo might be new Duel Masters but it killed everything that was good about the game.
>>24871247That, plus limiting the number of available blockers, really speeds up the game for me. I honestly enjoy it more than Magic.
>>24871247>>24871278The game was made so children could enjoy something similar to magic, so when they got older (high school age) they could move on to the more strategically complex game while having an intuitive grasp of the basic mechanics. It is not a strategically deep game, but it can be fun to play for an hour or so before it gets boring, I remember some of the card were super broken though.
>>24871278>I honestly enjoy it more than Magic. So did a lot of people.A part of reason why the game didn't take off is because 4kids parodied the anime series into some kind of inside joke and a lot of kids got turned off to the show, never getting to see how fun the card game is, the final nail in the coffin is letting the community decide the expansion names instead of just direct translating the original names.I shouldn't complain, I got to name the second expansion set, but hindsight is always 20-20.
>>24871273What did it change? I played Duel Masters, but not the new game.
>>24871408WOTC is doing to the lore what 4KIDS did to the cartoon.
>>24871356>>248715024Kids didn't dub the anime.
I feel the same way, OP. It's unfortunate, but what're ya gonna do?
>>24871529Irrelevant, cartoon was raped and left by the wayside, who has done it is not important at this point, regardless of your desire to display your knowledge of useless trivia.
I tried to get into this when I was younger, but didn't for some reason. Probably because the kid explaining it to me did a shit job. Plus, the anime sucked compared to Yu-Gi-Oh, which was my go to card game at the time.
>>24871408>What did it change? I played Duel Masters, but not the new game. The only thing that matters, Mighty Shouter is no longer pink.
>WoTC>AnimeSo what is the story behinde this?
>>24871601This makes me far more irritated than it should.Do they enjoy stomping on my fondest memories or something?
>>24871622>So what is the story behinde this? You have to be more specific, behind what? the series, the card game, the shutdown, the reboot?
>>24871622See:>>24871329The yugimans was popular and WotC wanted their jew gold
>>24871633I really don't understand the mindset behind the change.
>>24871643>>24871656So it is western made? How did it got an anime?
>>24871622Someone made a MtG anime. Then they changed it to Duelmasters and tried to sell the game that way.
>>24871739It was a co-op betweren wizzard and a japanese company as basically a means to introduce card games to young audiences, since japanese use anime as a primary source of introduction to any game, it quickly got an anime, the anime was fairly adult for its audience, dealing with war and a world at crisis, when the cartoon came to the west it go voiced over into a series of marvel jokes and breaking the fourth wall, losing interest rapidly, as the cartoon never took off, the sales of the card game dropped, its still going on in japan, i think its like on its 25th expansion set, but american version died, some years later WOTC got together with koreans and re-did the series, the new series and the card game are barely a year old now but i wouldn't be surprised if it went the way of the first series since cartoon is incredibly.... americanime.
>>24871796>Someone made a MtG anime. Then they changed it to Duelmasters and tried to sell the game that way.stop being an asswipe when people are having a civilized conversation.
>>24871739WOTC just had the rights to produce the English versions of the cards with a view to distributing them in the west.Duel masters is actually a Japanese media franchise.Though with respect to your question; Asian animation companies are relatively inexpensive to hire compared to western ones.
>>24871796>>24871799>>24871828And how is the subbed anime?
>>24871739>So it is western made? How did it got an anime?>>24871656>The yugimans was popular and WotC wanted their jew gold>The card game first originated in Japan and was marketed by Takara Tomy. It was produced in English by Wizards of the Coast, who purchased the rights to the name Duel Masters from Reality Simulations, Inc., which ran a play-by-mail gladiator game called Duelmasters, now known as Duel2. The English-language printing of the TCG ran from DM-01 Base Set (May 5, 2004) until DM-12 Thrash of the Hybrid Megacreatures (November, 2006). It was the twelfth and final expansion released by Wizards of the Coast for the English-language game; the Japanese game is still being produced.>>24871840>And how is the subbed anime? Not bad, same as Medabots, and I mean Japanese Medabots, because it suffered from the same shit, it was originally a fairly mature series touching up on death and individuality, but got voiced over into more breaking the fourth wall and marvel references.
I want to make my own card game, now that Duel Masters is dead, but I can't help but feel like everyone and their mother already has a card game.
>>24871799>i wouldn't be surprised if it went the way of the first series since cartoon is incredibly.... americanime. From the few episodes I've seen it isn't as bad as things used to be as far as destroying the plot, I can't say for sure but it definitely seems like they kept at least a bit of the darker stuff considering the fact that the big goal of the antagonists is making the monsters slaves or something.
>>24872120You should not worry about originality.
>>24872279>You should not worry about originality.Nobody wants to buy a game they can already play with a different name, plus I'm pretty sure all those tcg out there have the implementation of their mechanics copy written to the letter.
>>24872563What I ment is more complex: All creative works are made of pieces of other work plus some real life experiences or points of view.Think about what you like or what will you want to see in a tcg and roll with that. Nothing is purely original.
>>24872759Well I got mechanics about 75% done, and just enough cards to play with those mechanics, but I wouldn't know what to do with it even if I finished it.
OP Kaijudo is actually pretty damn fun.All of the regionals are getting dominated by LWD and 5-color dragon based decks because Wizards went full retard with cards like Andromeda of the Citadel.I'm just shitty because they spoiled a 2 cost fire/nature dual civ stomper/beastkin which is the last fucking thing I need to see when playing lwd against saberbolt decks at regionals.
Current Duelmasters seems OP as fuckany Moonrune speakers can vouch for that?
>>24871356>the final nail in the coffin is letting the community decide the expansion namesBut the expansions had the most fucking metal names in existence.

>>24874245>I am not pink!First the names, now this. This shit is priceless
>>24874266Holy shit that's the most metal thing I've ever seen and now I'm sad that it isn't a thing.Yet.
>>24873960What is Hyperchaos and why is it not in every game I play ever

>>24874312Only Question is, what fucking genre of metal, too hilariously awesome for Death, too hard for Doom, and not cheesy enough for Power.
>>24874287Duel masters was full of funny shit like that.
>>24874371Speed metal of course.
>>24874371All of them at once.

This thread got me in the mood.Where can I play this online if such a thing exists?
>>24873960There was one more set before they discontinued it in English called thrash of the hybrid mega creatures.

I liked Duel Masters and had fun with it in my circle of friends. The problem is, like Yu-Gi-Oh, the single power number made it too simple and one-dimensional, even with the effects and "spell"cards they had.
>New set coming out in June>looks up card list/spoilers> Daft Punk, Lord of Demons Right God sadly no pics yet of that but HOLY SHIT THEY WENT THERE
>>24875173I want this game back, wonderful clusterfuck that it is.
>>24875346All of my what,
>>24874501I play Duel Masters on TradeCardsOnline. The worst part of this is that it automatically destroyed the metagame of the time. Just by existing. Because everyone ran Commands or Dragons before this shit. For non DM players, closest thing I can think of is what if when I put this card on the field all of your white, black, red, green, and blue cards go to the grave. Then i set the cards in grave on fire and chuck them on your face.
>>24877002Metal as fuck.
>this entire threadWHAT THE GODDAMN FUCK WAS WIZARDS THINKING?! Kaijudo was a fucking terrible idea.

>>24878681If only there was some way /tg/ could bring it back.
Japan is soo cra cra!>Dat attack damageand> ■ While attacking, this creature gets "power attacker +5656" for each fire Dragon in your graveyard and breaks an additional shield. I hope you can do simple math, unlike most kids!
>It is the only card from the Kaijudo trading card game to be crossed over into Duel Masters. Hehehehe
>>24874462>Fuck you fuckers the dub was hilarious. It might have had funny moments, but it was horrible, man, just fucking horrible, constant breaking of the fourth wall was cringe worthy. Also, can't believe this shit is still going, usually DM threads die within an hour.
>>24874717You can still buy boosters and booster boxes on Amazon for the basic price if you want the real thing, you can go to the main site (Just google duel masters) they have a database of all the sets with images of the cards if you wanna print them out, and there is this semi-famous program online (don't know name because I don't play card games online) that's used to play magic and yugioh and pokemon card games it also supports duel masters and I think there is some guy that made a small java based duel masters multiplayer game and the last time I checked he was updating with translations of japanese cards so you could uplay up to the latest expansions, including mechanics that never showed up in NA.
This folder contains about 105 pages each holding 18 or more cards, in addition to this i have a big ass box filled with nothing but completed decks. In total i would guess i own about 3000 DM cards.
>>24880763bitch pleasethis thing here? It has Power Attacker 1000000Power Attacker ONE MILLIONoh and its a speed attacker and has triple breaker and you can summon it for free if you have 6 cards in the grave and no copies of this card are on the field

>>24870934i played it with my brother all the time back in 05. the illustrations were just so metal. dragon copter? hell yes. dragon bomber? fuck yes. Rothus the FUCKING Traveler? robotic badass motha fucka. if you can't tell, red remains my favorite.
>>24884650Was there a person that didn't fucking love red? It was badass robots and metal as fuck, I can't imagine someone not loving red.
I still have that duel deck tin set for... well Angels vs Demons is the MtG equivalent, but it was the yellow fucks vs black assholes with green and red splashes respectively.I like the idea it had for mana generation, swapping Magic's lands system in favor of all cards being usable for the role. Makes for an interesting level of thought as you have to consider whether or not you need a certain card now or later when playing it as a mana source.
>>24882336>Dat picDeath cruzer went full metal
THEY KEEP RE PRINTING BRONZE ARM TRIBE
>>24884942>BronzeThe earliest metal.

dammit /tg/, now i want to gm something with a universe as metal as the duel masters one. this shit is too cool.
Good god.Not even Dragonforce could think of names that are this metal.AND THEY ARE THE HARDEST METAL KNOWN THE MAN

I can't even tell what civilization half of those cards are supposed to be. Did they added multicolors or some shit? How in the hell does that work in terms of the whole war thing?
>>24890829Look at the mana numbers. Those are distinctive even when the rest of the card is a clusterfuck.
How does the mechanic of "MtG without lands" work?

>>24893099So you have to choose beatween taping you card for mana and taping them for their due effect?Awesome!
>>24893300no if you put your card in the mana zone in can only be used for mana
>>24893300Well, the way it works is that you put one down a turn as your land. They were then a land permanently, unless something returns it to your hand. Some nature and darkness civ cards did that.
>>24885486MY BROTHAH!They're back in the studio right now, maybe Herman Li happens to peruse /tg/ and he'll make a reference with the names. I mean shit, their last album had a song called "Wings of Liberty," if that isn't a blatant Starcraft 2 reference, I don't know what is.

>>24892842All cards are lands. You can either put them in play as their effects, or put them in your mana zone for mana. It's actually fairly strategical, because if you get a heavy hitter early, you might be tempted to dump it as mana to get monsters out quicker.
>>24894107MAH MANUsed to run mono-darkness and mono-light decks that were inverted copies of one another often.(In case you didnt know there was an equivalent darkness card to every light)
