You've tried learning the basics from your best friend - Illyasviel von Einzbern - but that put you in a coma for most of those three months. You think you'll stick to learning from her father, Kiritsugu, to whom you are apprenticed. Outside of the von Einzberns, you don't really have that many friends. You don't really like most people, and those who do wrong by you and yours you hate with all of your hatred. You've resolved to be a better person than your relatives, and strive to act with compassion towards strangers. At the present moment, you are politely refusing Gandalf the Grey's body double offer of a lemon drop. It's not that you don't trust the guy further than you could throw him, but it's that you don't trust the guy further than you could throw him."So what's this whole thing about the Child of Prophecy thing that Professor Zelretch was talking about?" you ask him.The old man sighs, popping the second lemon drop into his mouth and shaking his head in regret. "It's a long, and terrible story," he says. "Are you sure you wish to know, Mr. Potter?"You nod. "Yeah. Though, is there a cliff notes version...""Well," He begins, drawing himself up in the chair. "It begins with a prophecy told to me by a most reliable Oracle some twelve years ago... I had been-"Zelretch, carrying a worn out Hermione on his shoulder, steps through the hole in the wall, and in typical Zelretch fashion, spews out spoilers. "Tom Riddle - that's Voldemort - isn't dead. The scar on your forehead marks you as his equal. It's quite possible that he's immortal, and your destinies are intertwined that one of you has to kill the other."Albus glares at him again. He shrugs.>Field too long
>>24778984"What!" Zelretch says. "If I let you tell it, the players would have gotten a nice, fluffed out infodump going on for posts and posts and posts. >>24779094I agree. Tie in some snide parallels between our destiny and that of the ringbearers should do fine.
On a side note, Zelretch is the fucking MAN right now. Thanks to him, we don't have to derp around for fucking ever being ignorant of the impending Voldepocalypse like canon-Harry did. Now we have in IC reason to do all the crazy Magus-style war preparation shit we've been talking about.
You turn towards the guy who most certainly isn't Gandalf the Grey, and tilt your head inquisitively. "Is that the gist of it, Mr. Wizard Gu-"You pause for a moment. Then blink. Then turn towards Dr. Zelretch. "Wait a second, what do you mean 'players'? Is this some sort of game? Is it some..."Zelretch shakes his head. "Don't worry about it. It won't concern you unless you get involved with the Second Magic, and the odds of that happening considering all of the other crazy shite that your involved in, well..." He grins. "I won't say that's a no, but it's unlikely. A very, very, very small infinity has that happening."You try not to contemplate the concept of a small infinity, and nod along, deciding that indeed, it would be best not to worry about it. You turn back to Gandalf."So what you're saying is that I'm some sort of chosen one?"Not!Gandalf nods gravely."And that I'm destined to face off against the Dark Lord that murdered my parents."Albus continues nodding, looking ready to console you if you flop into despair from the realization that you will have to cause death. Of course, he doesn't know that you are, essentially, Death, now does he?"And that I'll likely have to gather together a colorful cast of friends and allies to have the support and power to defeat him?"A single tear forms in Not!Gandalf's eye. You have but three words to say."Best. Destiny. Ever."The old man chokes on his lemondrops again. The other old man starts laughing, though breaks long enough from it to put Hermione down, in a chair."I think you owe me that Galleon, Dumbledore," Zelretch says. You start panicking a bit internally, as it's just beginning to catch up with you. "And that another part of said prophetic dream told you that someone you really, really cared about was going to die a horrible and painful death."Zelretch rubs his chin for a moment."Does this involve my apprentice, perhaps," he give you a sly little grin."NO!" you say a bit too hastily. "No, it involves Illya, actually. And this big, evil cup that overflowed with lots and lots of purple, goo-ish..."Zelretch puts up a hand. "You needn't worry, Harry," he says. I guess Harry doesn't understand that he's in the presence of someone who kill him with a twitch of his finger. Who has a form of near omnipotence due knowledge, his powers, and experience. And that the girl he just insulted is learning from the Ancient vampire. Sure one day she may grow up and crush on the ancient vampire as a huge vessel of knowledge but we can't interfere. And we may have just closed some doors. Let's hope that since one half of this series is anime that this can still benefit us in the end.
>>24791731I don't think we really did either of those things.
>>24791731All we did was make her a little angry dude, jesus. It's not like we're going to get through this without ever having arguments with our friends, we're Harry Potter, our origin in canon is "Pointless Disagreements".
>>24791731>is animeOne half of that is the F/0 anime, aka The Bad Guy Wins and Everyone Else Dies Painfully. The other half is mostly about a suicidal, emotional cripple who saves people that don't really need to be saved. Not exactly optimistic. The Harry Potter side of the story is what would normally be saving him here. However, since we're dealing with Zelretch, the usual nigh-omnipotent vampire lord stuff doesn't apply. He just isn't that kind of guy. Besides, Harry is still ten at this point. He is physically incapable of fully grasping what Zelretch is really showing him. He'll get it, eventually.
>>24791823The issue is that instead of CANON Fate/Zero, we got the version in which there was no Avenger so the Grail was vastly more cooperative, and everything went better than expected.(Granted, Zelretch did just insinuate that Avenger could possibly be summoned in the NEXT Grail War, but that's way far down the road from here, not to mention that we really wouldn't understand in character the extent to which that would be a Bad Thing.)

Iri, Kerry and Ilya are a cadet branch. It's fairly common in breeding like they do for magecraft, the heir's partner is tightly controlled so the main line doesn't get any unfortunate traits, conversely branch lines are allowed (or even encouraged) to bring in new blood that after a good amount of time to isolate the good traits, be brought into the main line. Expect that in a few generations' time, one of our and Ilya's great grandchildren ends up married to the then heir to get Kiritsugu and our bloodlines' good traits.

>>24793540MEoDP works because you're connected to the Root, Akasha. Not death exactly.>>24793537You'd lack death, putting it bluntly you'd become invulnerable by normal means. But you'd still, on the other hand, be able to take damage, you just couldn't die from it.
>>24793556The Einzberns have better wards than Lily's blood ward, and once harry collects the Hallows and goes through his spiritual journey he can kill himself with a knife instead of having Voldemort do it.

>>24793586>I'd like to see the Death Eaters attack Kerry's place. It would be a fucking slaughter. You're forgetting the fact that the reason why Wizards never used guns against each other in the HP universe is because spells made every normal mean ineffective.
>>24793592Or he can do like Shiki and find Voldy's dot that's attached to him and stab IT without having to kill himself. Preferably right in front of Voldy, just for maximum "fuck you" factor. If I'm remembering Tsukihime right. I'm drunk and tired so I'm probably wrong.
>>24793556Technically no, but instead we've got the fortified workshop of Kiritsugu and the von Einzberns.Which is like living in the fucking Death Star all told.>>24793592We can probably also just stab the horcrux's lines instead of needing to find complicated hyper-killy weapons to remove it.

>>24793610>the reason why Wizards never used guns against each other in the HP universe is because spells made every normal mean ineffectiveNo. That's not true at all. Rowling has stated outright that a Muggle with a shotgun can take a Wizard in a straight fight.
>>24793610>Wizards never used guns against each other in the HP universe is because spells made every normal mean ineffective.I thought it was because they had no fucking clue. Kingsley didn't even know what a MAGAZINE was for fuck's sake

>>24793622>like living in the fucking Death Star all told.Bad metaphor. The Death Star had a nice convenient weak point.
>>24793610>Wizards never used guns against each other in the HP universe is because spells made every normal mean ineffective.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAANo.Wizards never used guns in the HP universe because they were xenophobic Luddite morons with an insanely massive bureaucracy and centuries of ingrained magical elitism.Guns would slaughter the everliving fuck out of them.

>>24793636Remember that scene where Dumble is fighting Voldie and they shatter a huge bunch of glass. And then Voldie fires ALL of it at Dumble and he renders fucking all of it ineffective by turning it into sand? It's not that hard to do that with bullets.

>>24793702>Range matters little to an entire body shield.Nobody in Harry Potter is suggested to have anything like this, Protego is directional and by the time they know they need to cast it the bullet is already exiting their head.
>>24793706>We'd presumably still be subject to the same degradation of the soul that plagued Zouken.Thats more of a product of, y'know, turning his body into worms and jumping from host to host combined with a whole host of failed experiments than immortality.Which he never actually achieved, mind you.
>>24793718They need the blood to keep the soul going IIRC. Not sure on that though.>>24793720You keep messing around like that and a CG will be up our ass.
>>24793702>Range matters little to an entire body shield. Can they keep it up 24/7?
>>24793662Dumbledore and Voldy are the absolute BEST at what they do, bar none. Using that fight as an example is like taking a fight between Zelretch and Aoko and using it as an example of a typical Magus fight. The VAST majority of Wizards are still limited by the time it takes them to wave their wands and chant incantations, and even the ones that can do silent casting under pressure are nowhere near Dumbledore level.
>>24793692>Right until Kerry busts out the Origin Shot. Not helpful. HP magic works directly off the soul (which is why Horcruxes are ill-advised).>Or Maiya puts a round through their head from half a mile away. The surroundings of Hogwarts are both extremely well warded and filled with monster out of the Age of Gods. Maiya is an excellent assassin but a lousy mage. Voldemort made the infiltartion look easy because he had been working on it for more than a decade. You severely underestimate Wizards.
>>24793440The issue is that as far as the canon is concerned, Dementors don't have any earthly concept of death either. They just exist as a manifestation of despair, much like Aristotles exist as manifestations of the will of their respective celestial bodies. If we can reach the point where we can "kill" a thing, not because it is "alive" (e.g. it is currently at a point in between its beginning and its end points, and at a close enough distance to its end that we are capable of actualizing it) but because it EXISTS (e.g. it is present in the Akashic records, and we have somehow become powerful enough to reach into the fabric of reality and remove them from it), it would probably make us the most theoretically powerful being in existence. If I'm interpreting any of this incorrectly, please correct me before I get too entrenched in my position. Better to know the actual extent of our abilities than to just speculate forever, I suppose.
>>24793756>You keep messing around like that and a CG will be up our ass.>One guy fucking around with his own soul>Counter-Guardian worthyCGs only show up when a HUGE portion of humanity is about to get fucked over. I'm talking global thermonuclear war huge here. Or 'entire population of America'.
>>24793767>They just exist as a manifestation of despairThen it can die, and it's not exactly a hard thing to do, to kill despair.
>>24793702>Does HP magic work on Magic Circuits?Presumably, we've no reason to think it doesn't, especially considering Dumbledore cross-trained in Magecraft under Zel (which might explain why he's such a badass). Although the Wand might act as an insulator, but then the shot would just fry their wand and effectively disarm them.
>>24793764>Not helpful. HP magic works directly off the soul (which is why Horcruxes are ill-advised).>Origin Shot AFFECTING THE FUCKING SOUL DIRECTLY instead of circuits>Not helpfulWhat the fuck are you smoking>>24793767Dementors are not utterly alien. They are not from a place where the very concept of death does not exist. They are from Earth, where things die. Thus they can be killed, because the concept of death is not completely incomprehensible to them.
>>24793764>HP magic works directly off the soul (which is why Horcruxes are ill-advised).Nasuverse magic ALSO works directly off the soul; that's where a person's Magic Circuits are located. On the topic of break-ins:Maiya will DEFINITELY not be able to break into Hogwarts, because she was incapable of breaking into the magical hospital we were admitted to during our coma, which almost certainly was less well protected than Hogwarts is.>"Yeah, that's what I thought too," Illya says. "I think your parents may have been in the same line of work as papa, only without magecraft. Some benefactor recommended it to your relatives for your care." She shook her head. "Papa doesn't like it though. But he doesn't like anything Aunty Maiya can't break in to."

>>24793817Chocolate just releases chemicals that make you happy, which help you recover. And even if we did kill a Dementor, another one would probably pull itself together somewhere, albeit with no real reason to hunt us down.
>>24793839>And even if we did kill a Dementor, another one would probably pull itself together somewhere,I see no reason why. When you "Kill" something with MEoDP, it's the same as deleting a file on your computer.IT'S GONE, FOREVER.

>>24793847If they're formed from despair, then killing a Dementor doesn't kill the despair they were spawned from. Another one, sooner or later, might pull together from the excess despair. That could be wrong, but it does make some sense.

Keep in mind that we have to stab people individually to kill them.
>>24793847you know when you delete something from your computer its not really totally gone for a wile right?
>>24793810>>24793811Origin Shot fucks up the circuits, not the soul. The Circuits are a discrete entity. They are not the soul itself. Wizards don't fuck with Circuits. Origin Shot would not be helpful beyond what a bullet would already do.Speculation, though.>>24793839Hosing everything with chocolate would keep these chemicals within reach. I guess an endorphin hose spell would be more practical, but that's no fun.>>24793847Killing dementors permanently is about as useful as killing gravity where you stand. You can do it, but since it's a necessary part of the Earth, it's just going to come back regardless. Remember that new dementors spawn at a rate proportional to how sad everyone in the vicinity is.
>>24793888I'm assuming a proportional amount of dementors to living things.>>24793902Despair is born from living things. If you're so dead-set on making Dementors go extinct, it might be easier to kill all life.
>>24793902We dotstab Gaia. Killing the planet will kill most of the life on it, but not all as shown in Notes.
>>24793912You know what the Origin Shot does, right? It severs and repairs things. It works really well on circuits, but if you had a way to easily get one into someones soul then oh you'd better believe it'd fuck you up to a hilarious extent.
>>24793902Keep in mind we can kill anything. So if we walk up to a skyscraper and end its existence then a 1000+ people died right there. There are of course even greater problems than that.I know Harry won't do that but the mere fact that something like this could happen and would be unstoppable for all intents and purposes due to immortality is enough reason for CGs to pop up.
>>24793946If Kerry knew how to directly fuck up people's souls he would be able to simply kill offending Servants. He's not good enough. Thanks for reminding me about Origin Shot's stated ability, though. I had that wrong.
>>24793948CGs did not pop up in response to Tohno or Ryougi. They don't respond to possibilities. They respond to actual events. The eyes also have limits:>There are those without true form like Night of Wallachia right before it takes shape. Something "made of words" and "which has yet to exist" cannot be "killed." Wallachia also can be called a "phenomenon" like "wind storms" and "typhoons", and while individual events of such phenomenon can be dispersed, it is impossible to outright kill the phenomenon itself. Ryougi works off of the notion of killing what she perceives as alive, so while she claims to be able to kill God "as long as it's alive", she can do nothing to God because "God isn't alive or dead."TM-wiki actually cited this from an actual interview, so it's probably not wank.
>>24794006>works off of the notion of killing what she perceives as aliveI sense a loophole.
>>24793972You have to consider though, that Servants have different souls than humans, sort of 'heavier'.So he might be not able to kill a Servant because the damage he does is too small in relation, but possibly enough to cause harm to a wizard.
>>24794046>Servants have different souls than humans, sort of 'heavier'.Because there were less people around, right? I remember. You have a point.
>>24794006Kinda odd why CGs pop up in response to the possibility of True Magic occurring then. So we have Ryougi eyes? Alright I was a little confused.
>>24794069Nah, its because of their connection to the Throne of Heroes and how their legends empower them and shit.
>>24794087Not to mention divinity.
>>24793702>Does HP magic work on Magic Circuits?I don't think so, I think it manipulates the Mana in the air to do what the user instructs

Okay, now that I've verified my infos with Fuyuki wiki to make sure this works...Wizards have bred themselves into a very interesting position. Their elemental alignment is completely uniform across the members of its society, save for the occasional squib who pops out, which possess Magic Circuits, but not the Triggering Element. It is the Triggering Element, which allows them to shape their magic as they desire without actually knowing the minutae of how their magic effects the world. Thus, the bullshit hax that happens when they do something impossible - they do not know that it is impossible (it IS magic, after all), and they desire for it to happen. Ironically, a wizard who possesses knowledge of Magecraft would be comparatively crippled to one who is ignorant, as they're desires will have to overcome the mental blocks provided by their knowledge that what they wish for is impossible. In short - Yes, Wizards possess magic circuits much like all mages. However, thanks to how friggin inbred they all are, they all are universally aligned towards the Sixth Imaginary Element.Otherwise known as Demons.(Insert jokes about the witch hunts being justified here)
>>24794412Nice. Thanks for fluffing that out.

TM WIki:>The Sixth Imaginary Element (第六架空要素, Dai Roku Kakū Yōso?), also known as Demons, is a force, that reacts to the desires of humans. It needs a form, created by human images, similarly to how it happens to higher-level spirits, inorder to materialize itself, as a passive existence.>This passive existence is sympathetic towards mankind as it trys to take away the suffering of the people for itself. The Sixth Imaginary Element is also a fundamental element similar to Ether that is responsible for the actualization of wishes, concepts and other phenomena. Its domains are materialization of wishes, summonings, possessions, and spiritual mediums. The retina of Rider’s Mystic Eyes are made out of this.
Fuyuki Wiki:>Normal interpretation of "akuma to yobareru dai roku kakuu youso" (literally, the 6th imaginary substance called demons) is that demons, (and not the English "demonic") are the 6th imaginary substance themselves. Materialization, or better yet, physical manifestation of the imaginary substance "demons" requires images made by man.>Other interpretations of the above line are that demons are a particular category within the 6th imaginary substance, but contextually, it seems to be out of place in the segment of Fate where it was mentioned. Well, it would be easier that way though.>Reality Marbles are/and were originally the alien common sense of demons. Real demons don't have a physical body and can only come into physical existence after obtaining an image crafted by us humans. Furthermore, the bodies that demons, when possessing a host, try to recreate are ones that are physically impossible for any organic life. Finally, DDD gives an impression that demons are intangible and incompetent, the complete opposite of a concrete and all-present being such as God and some comments in Character Material makes it seem as if Merem's demons themselves are a contradiction to reality.>Maybe the 6th substance is really the summed up named of undefined and utterly alien nonsensical spiritual energy (if it's supposed to be significantly different from the 5th substance, Ether)? Maybe something similar to the aliens in the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, but opposite in another way.
Merlin:>Several decades later, the poet Robert de Boron retold this material in his poem Merlin. Only a few lines of the poem have survived, but a prose retelling became popular and was later incorporated into two other romances. In Robert's account, as in Geoffrey's Historia, Merlin is begotten by a demon on a virgin as an intended Antichrist. This plot is thwarted when the expectant mother informs her confessor Blaise of her predicament; they immediately baptize the boy at birth, thus freeing him from the power of Satan. The demonic legacy invests Merlin with a preternatural knowledge of the past and present, which is supplemented by God, who gives the boy a prophetic knowledge of the future.
