Joey and Flint sit silently by the camp. Normally, Joey would already be waving his sword around, but he senses the mood. He's been quiet, of late. You wonder what he thinks about all this debate.Auriel is a bit back from the fire. She and Flint have been avoiding each other's gazes for the past half hour. You can sense the awkwardness, the strange hurt that doesn't want to go away.It bothers you. You will not let it go unresolved. You move toward Auriel.<A word, angel.>"...I'm not an angel anymore." She puts her head between her knees and draws them in close. "I've had enough words for one night. Just leave me be."<It's not about you, or me. It's about Flint.>She slowly lifts her head. <I did. Sir Flint spoke out against the mayor's action in front of the townspeople. The parasite actively prevented him from from convincing the villagers with words. That was not the first time such a thing has happened, and it has not been the last. I can see the creature move - wrapping, constricting around his soul. It chooses the worst moments for him to stumble, either over his feet, or his words. It does his best to destroy him. It drinks of him, when he'd otherwise shine brightest.<I do not know why, and I do not know how, but that parasite must be removed. That is why I am going into the gorge. It is not to prove a point about a lich - it is because I believe this is the best chance we have of helping Sir Flint. If we can find common ground on something, surely, it's there.>"...I'm not sure how he feels about me, after...that."How do you respond?>You're a third wheel, Auriel. We should also mention some things about how when we met him after the first incedent at the bar, how he vented his frustrations regarding how his family saw him, though we should leave out Megan. I noticed some discussion about diplomacy at the tail of the previous thread.I adjust the DC of diplomacy based on numerous factors - the character, their perspective, your own arguments, your deeds that they're aware of, etc. Basically, everything. You can roll for it in the open if you like, or I can do it behind the scenes. Or, I can not roll at all, and simply make the narrative call that I feel is appropriate. It's your choice.
>>24691753>>Even I can see he is infatuated with you. I will...help you, in that, because I believe he has affection with you. If - IF - you will set aside our differences and focus on what needs to be done. >>24691753We may want to include the second part of one with two.
>>24691778Sorry, let me try again...We should mention >>24691755, then say the second choice.
>>24691807Roll with DC modifiers unless you need to make a narrative call.
>>24691818>We may want to include the second part of one with two.Yeah, I probably will.
>>24691807If you're going to roll, or if you're going to just make a judgment call or fudge it, either way do it behind the scenes. That makes it feel more like roleplaying and less like rollplaying, and lets you make whatever call you think would be most natural.
>>24691807I like it as you've been doing just fine.
>>24691753Different approach: "Flint seems to care for you. Do you believe he would have argued with so much passion if it didn't matter to him what you thought, of him and in general?"Then 2, though as others have said the last part of 1 does make sense. Though she'll probably think we're already succeeding at corrupting him.
>>24691828>unless you need to make a narrative call.I'm glad you keep the faith, but that puts me in the position to be tempted into a "narrative call" every time I want diplomacy to go a certain way for the sake of the story.I either want a green light or a red light. Yellow is too ambiguous. I'll tell you now I've written too much not to abuse that power every chance I get.
>>24691879That's not the kind of narrative call I mean. I mean that if we've just made an impassioned argument that you like, or that surprises you, that's much more important than whether we manage a decent die roll. And the same goes for failures, as well.
>>24691879By the way, I need to know this......right now. Because the fix is in and its time to roll.Am I rolling, or are you rolling?Or am I just going to go Caesar on your asses and give you the thumbs up or down as I see fit?
>>24691879I would say take it easy on us, but I trust your judgement on narrative call
>>24691879I'm going to give you red light, then. I trust your judgement but awesome things can happen when you have to write outside of your comfort zone/expectations and I'd rather not see you get stuck in some rut or routine and keep improving.
I'm fine with a DC modified by what we agree on to say. (I prefer to roll in any case.)
>>24691920>I mean that if we've just made an impassioned argument that you like, or that surprises you, that's much more important than whether we manage a decent die roll. And the same goes for failures, as well. That makes a lot of sense.
>>24691922I'd much rather you put yourself into the head of Auriel and your other characters, knowing everything you know that we don't, and make the call for what she'd decide. If you think it's too close to call, or you want randomness, roll behind the virtual screen and then act wise like you knew all along.
We must all be bros. That is the source of our power, broitude.
>>24691943If it's a kinda blah argument, make us roll. If we pull something stellar, just thumb up it.And if we spagooti harder than Flint give the thumb down.
>>24691879SM I want a fantastic story, I don't care how it happens, as long as it does. So far, I'm not disappointed.

Perfect spot for some kind of magical trap."<Your pessimism is not helping our efforts.>"No, but annoying you is my last recourse for entertainment in the middle of blasted, light-forsaken lands such as these."You decide to ignore her, and lead the way toward the center of the field of rock....booom...."...what was that?" Joey asks....booom..."...run," Flint says. "Run! Gallop!"...BOOOM....
>>24693450Here comes the BOOM!!!It's been a while since we unlocked anything.
>>24693450I smell miniboss.*sniff*Smells like bad rolls.
>>24693450Goddamn monsters always showing up uninvited.
>>24693472It's the only kind of roll we know.
>>24693450<GO! I will delay it.>And eat it if our rolls allow.
Interesting thought, I wonder if at some point it'll possible to trade humanity / temerity for xp.Makes me wonder if Erebus traded away his humanity for power towards the end when it was four on one.
>>24693513Truly, where do these ideas of yours come from?
The horses break into a gallop. Joey's horse rears, then takes off even faster than the other two. You sprint behind them, not quite at full speed, but putting effort into your run....BOOOM!A huge golem emerges from behind a thick spear of rock. Its arms hiss and grind as it turns to look at you.EERRRRRRAAAAAHHHHHHA huge foot crushes the ground next to you. Cracks spiderweb through the rocks. The blast throws you slightly, but your wings guide you back to your friends. The robot turns to chase you, each stomp of its feet like a miniature earthquake. What do you do?>stick with the party. Don't split up!>hang back, try to distract it!>work to protect Joey; he doesn't seem to have good control of his horse>something else
>>24693513most likely he never developed it. If he simply ate as in our nature he wouldn't have understood why people saw him not striking the Black Hand down as bad... and why he did not aid his fellow elementals. No compassion at all.
>>24693450Well I say we lead whatever is going BOOM away from our party members and when we are far enough away we super sanic back to them
>hang back, try to distract it!Yup, look for whatever is powering it. Without a living mage it must have a powersource of some sort.
>>24693547WE SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS NOWStick with the party though, I don't want to face this thing head-on if we don't have to.
>>24693547>hang back, try to distract it!Let's see if we can scamper up onto its back.
>>24693547protect joey pls
>>24693547>hang back, try to distract it!and if joey falls off his horse pick him up and fly him to flint
>>24693513I hope not. That would probably mean that certain things would be unlocked with Humanity and certain things Temerity. The meta would destroy our ability to roleplay the character.
>>24693547>>hang back, try to distract it!>>work to protect Joey; he doesn't seem to have good control of his horse
>>24693547>work to protect Joey; he doesn't seem to have good control of his horseour hopeless side kick and comedy relief(besides Flint and Auriel's romance) is in danger.
>>24693547Slip through it's cracks and wreck it.Rip it apart.
jump up onto it's head and ride itI second kiting it away from the group. we can always do a fly-over to relocate them...

>>24693812Hmm, it appears that the dice only appreciate the Fate route.
>>24693822Obviously you need to roll more frequently to beat this curse.
Let's go back to first ten. We keep sucking at first three...
>>24693845We abandoned that because we were getting too many crit successes/fails.
>>24693874I would rather have first 5.
>>24693874And we get too many fails/bad rolls with this one.
You bounce up onto a pointed stalagmite and fly back toward the golem! It swings hard! You try to dodge, but you've got too much momentum - and as it closes in, you realize that fist alone is the size of a shed! It scrapes along the ground, blowing away rock and dust. You flap furiously, trying to gain altitude, but the debris from its sweep knocks you about, and its fist smashes into you! You're sent flying!>you've taken 4 damage (33/37)You're able to right yourself, and you land hard, then leap into the sky once more. The golem has turned back toward the horses, which are halfway across the valley.Stomping feet shake the ground. Joey's horse slows, bucks, and he rolls off! You're there. A giant foot comes down from the sky, but you're gone, dashing with the speed of shadow before it contacts. Joey rides on your shoulders, gripping your shadowy aura as hard as he can.He glances up behind you just in time to see the horse get swatted into the canyon wall. It smashes to blood and gore on the stone. He turns white as snow, then pins himself against your body. "RUN SHADOW, RUUUUN!!!!"The golem unleashes its screech of steel and steam.EERRRRRAAAAAHHHHHThe ground shakes....but it's different...the shaking isn't from a footstep...it doesn't stop, and gets louder, louder!RUMBLE - CRASHROOOOOUUUAAAAAGGGGHHA huge worm emerges from the stone, a titan of flesh and scales. Its face is a giant mouth, circular, lined with hundreds and hundreds of rotating teeth. You're caught between two giants.------------------------------------And you'll figure out what the fuck you're going to do, next time!Questions, comments?HP: 37/37Mana: 10/10EXP: 2Humanity: 65Temerity: 42
>>24693874How about best three of ten?
>>24693904No method of rolling dice is ever going to be completely perfect.mainly because /tg/ dice are evil, fickle creatures who enjoy fucking us over
>>24693838or just use better dice...If Shadow wanted to be a merciful Lord, he would allow us to use Bell Curve Probability rather than Straight Probability...2d50 has a higher likelihood of getting 'average' rolls than 1d100...but, that has the added effect of neutering the crit ratios.chance for 100 on 1d100 = 1:100chance for 100 on 2d50 = 1:2500
I find that taking the highest of the first three is generally the best method.
>>2469392210/10 quest, would bang.Don't change the dice system. It works well enough and we've ironed out the kinks.

Next time, we might want to start by using Shade. If we position our decoy directly between the golem and the worm, we might be able to get them to attack each other.Assuming they aren't being controlled.
>>24694043ya correctedBoth threads have been archived. Will be up for another ~20 mins if anyone has a random question.
>>24694263How fucked are we?
>>24694263I think you aren't gonna answer this but, could we enchant armor or have someone enchant it for us to bind to our body and act like us. The armor would be able to ink and conform to any shape we take.
>>24694263If we get Replicate, does that mean we can convincingly hold *any* realistic form, not just humanoid?
>>24693922Sorry about being late on the pastebin compile, I've got exams for the next few weeks so they'll be bit late. I've got some catching up to do.
>>24694369I'm afraid I can't answer that, Dave.>>24694285Mildly. These enemies are large, and difficult to kill, but you could outrun them. The real problem is AFTER the battle...
>>24694263When we get to either 100 Humanity or Temerity can we get a small passive bonus to our persuade / intimidate rolls? And if so could that bonus get bigger every 100?
>>24694411>If we get Replicate, does that mean we can convincingly hold *any* realistic form, not just humanoid? That's exactly what it means, within reason. You can't grow to ten times your size, but you could hold any realistic form - tree, inanimate object, door, another person, angel wings, etc. You'll stand up well to any mundane examination - except for how you actually feel. Magical detection will still pose the same obstacles.>>24694432There's no rush for a free service, take your time.Captch: fdvalu services
>>24694450There's already a system in place for that, which I will not discuss in great detail to spare you the meta. However, as I said, humanity and temerity do effect how you are perceived. There has been almost no roll in this entire game that in unaffected by some modifier. I just don't show you.
>>24691625I have to catch up from the last thread, but I am back! Kidney stones will not keep me from Shadow Quest!
>>24694263Shadow felt his magic leave when the Demon Lord shut off magic, as did Auriel. Shadow got his back; Auriel didn't. What did the "getting it back" feel like, and how long did it take?
>>24694533>Kidney stones will not keep me from Shadow Quest!Shit that sucks man. Swift recovery.>>24694581It came back pretty quickly. You didn't have any mana left, but magic was back "on" - the senses simply returned to you, as if they were no longer blocked. You attribute this to the strange nature of the "unmagic" spell. However, note that the "Spirit Sword" you picked up from the Old Forest Keep lost its enchantment permanently. Flint and Auriel's armor also lost their enchantments. Finally, Auriel lost her angelic powers. She still is a strong mage in her own right, but she can no longer fly. Hovering and gliding are both possible for her.Take what you will from that information.
>>24694694>Finally, Auriel lost her angelic powers. She still is a strong mage in her own right, but she can no longer fly. Hovering and gliding are both possible for her.Via magic, presumably, since she has no wings?
>>24694581As an additional note on enchantments; they generally take one to several days to complete, and the most powerful enchantments are possible only with months of effort by a -very- skilled enchanter.Furthermore, enchanters are very specialized, because it is a difficult skill and takes many years of practice to master. Most mages would rather strengthen their own powers than imbue armors with them, so enchanted things are not all that common to begin with. Most non-nobles, for example, can't afford enchanted equipment. You already know you can consume enchanted materials for EXP and possible mana...but in the long run, they're probably more valuable if you hold onto them. That's just my opinion, though. Hell, you could go on a mission to specifically consume enchanted things to fuck with the world for all I care. Mite B kool.
>>24694748>Via magic, presumably, since she has no wings?Correct.Well, night all, hope you enjoyed.Next time, on Shadow Quest:Clash of the Titans!
>>24694796At some point I'd like to see Auriel using the thought-writing quill. Could be entertainingly informative.
>>24694694Before I ask, I have to apologize- my question is a loaded one. Will we get to see the ability trees/stats for other characters?
