Events Summary:After saving Jacob's Field from a magical plague and an attack from Kan-Abar with Sir Donovant Flint and Abigail, a young girl, you met with the ambitious and brilliant Duke Vellik - a man with aims to reshape the political landscape of the world. He rules the country of Kelvere from the city of Evinbrook. He's asked for your allegiance, in return for a home and protection for yourself and your friends. You decided to offer your friendship, but without a permanent commitment to his forces. But as you answered him, the sudden arrival of two angels - Raziel and Auriel - threw you into battle. Raziel hunted you as you fled, and his attacks pressed you into a corner on the Duke's airship. Seeing little choice, you consumed the airship's magical dynamo. The resulting explosion of power enabled you to drive off the angel. However, the battle ripped open the hull of the airship, and you were forced to choose between saving the crew or finishing of your attacker. You saved the crew and successfully landed the mostly-intact craft. You pursued Raziel, and captured him, but he ended up a hostage in your negotiations with Auriel, who was quick to arrive on the scene. Ultimately, you could not disuade her from attacking, but you were able to consume your prisoner, permanently ending the threat of Raziel. With the energy of Raziel's soul secure, you unleashed a great power - supersonic flight. You outraced Auriel back to Evinbrook, and Sir Flint, a staunch ally, promised to meet you back in Jacob's Field, to begin the search for Abigail, and the ancient lich watching over her, Adavan. In Jacob's field, you learned that the occupying Kanians have noticed the great source of spirit beneath the town, but have been unable to access it. Their attacking force is on its way to Evinbrook. You also learned more of Abigail's past, and her parents, specifically her father. You believe there may be a connection between her and the ruler of Archon, the archmage Yi Fang.

>>24445078Well, we can cross out bringing her to the Duke for safety. I'm absolutely sure that he wouldn't want to use her as an ace in the hole for dealing with Yi Fang...Sorry. I can't keep my face straight...
>>24445116>Last time...You glance at the house.Abigail's parents were full of secrets...that much you know.Abigail Fang. Who is this girl? What is her place in the world?Suddenly, you remember. The duke mentioned a mage - Yi Fang, the archmage and ruler of Archon. Archon, Archonium...it can't be a coincidence. Abigail is not just a normal girl. She's very, very special. And her father ran away from home, for one reason or another. And she and Adavan are out there somewhere, alone. You feel a shiver run through you.Auriel's words echo in your head."Conflict always finds power."What is your place in the world? What do you want to do? Would you truly be content with living with Abigail and Adavan in a log cabin in the woods? Waiting until something finds you, or until the world falls apart? You have too many questions to be satisfied with that. Questions about what you are, why you have the powers you do, why you're hunted - and why your memory still lingers behind a wall of steel. You feel at it......it's gone. The steel barrier in your mind is gone. For a moment, you feel a rising sense of joy as you plunge forward...!...but you're only greeted with emptiness.Whatever was there, is gone.Anger boils inside of you.No. A quiet life alone, in ignorance, will not do. You will find the elf noblewoman...and you will have an explanation.Or there will be hell to pay.

>>24445143TO THE CHURCH!
Aww yeah, shadow quest!
For what seems like the hundredth time, you push the frustration away. Immediate concerns must take precedent.Jacob's Field is occupied by a force numbering in the thousands - no doubt working to solidify Kan-Abar's control of the river, dividing Kelvere in two. It's no scouting expedition. They're building a fort, there's mages everywhere, and they have an earth golem nearly two-stories tall patrolling the edge of the village. You've learned that an attacking force led by the ruler of Kan-Abar, lord Nulis Vin, is headed for Evinbrook, and at its head is a demon lord. You're not sure whether the duke was prepared for that, or not, but Sir Flint is probably already halfway to Jacob's Field by now. What do you do?>head to the Old Forest Keep to wait>harass the encampment by consuming their supplies (or some other plan, write-in)>hunt and kill mages>hunt and kill men high in their chain of command>fly down and intercept Flint, then head back to Evinbrook to warn the duke>something else
>>24445243>>harass the encampment by consuming their supplies (or some other plan, write-in)I believe this was the plan we worked out last thread.
>>24445243CONSUME all of their precious food.
>>24445057It's Shadow Time!Oh and SM I'm pretty sure I know where we can find the Water and earth elements based off past threads. >A Keystone's calls go unheardThis is taking about the Water element which is hinted at in the book "Keystone of Atlantis"While the earth element is noted to be somewhere southwest of Evinbrook which would put it in the Kanian desert.
>>24445143Now that we have a map, I feel instantly compelled to put tiny men of our color in every country on it. First things first, though, we should probably find Adavan and Abigail. Every second we wait makes them harder to track down and if she's so very special we might not be the only ones looking.Nevertheless it may be wise to investigate the massive energy source beneath this town so long as we're already here.
>>24445243And you also have a strange wisp of darkness floating about your head, seemingly summoned by your power. You've uncovered something there...a way to open a path to someplace...else.---------------------SUMMONING---------------------Summons cost mana to bring forward, and then follow you around passively. Each battle action they take costs you additional mana, and, for better summons, risks them breaking your control. A summon can be dismissed at any time, but this triggers a control-break check. If you run out of mana while controlling a summon, either from casting a spell or using the last of your mana to direct it in some task, your summon is automatically dismissed, and a riskier control-break is triggered. Types of summons: Ethereal - ghosts, spirits, and haunts. These summons have weaker attacks, but are highly resilient, and generally have a cheaper action-cost once summoned. They are difficult to detect by mundane means, but easily visible to most kinds of magical detection. They are found in the left branch of the summon tree. Demonic - demons of the nether. While not stealthy by any means, they are physically strong and command powerful fire magic. They have some of the highest raw attack power, but tend to be more expensive, and have higher control-break risks. They are the central branch of the tree. Shadow - animated undead, as well as shadow spirits and wisps. While these summons tend to be the weakest in endurance and attack power, they are cheaper. They also passively gain whatever stealth bonus you have, and have lower control-break risks. They make up the right branch of the tree.Current Summon:>Wisp - A shadowy wisp from the nether. (2 shadow attack (same power as shadow strike). Costs 1 mana to summon, 1 mana per action. Never breaks your control; if you run out of mana, it will vanish.
>>24445243Well, how about we ruin a couple of people's day, then buy ourselves replicate?
>>24445243They had people chopping down wood from the forest correct? Why don't we slowly pick off off the lumberjacks. Pick one drain and drag him into the forest. Rinse and repeat.
>>24445243Do you have a map of the world? If so can you fog it and unfog the parts we have found?
>>24445243Harass the camp. Eat some soldiers, maybe some officers if they're not well guarded.Don't kill any mages yet. The other mages would surely detect the death of one of their own and raise the alarm.
>>24445323There's a map of the world here >>24445078
>>24445346Never noticed it, thank you.
>>24445243Find the food stores and eat everything. There's perhaps no better way to paralyze the fighting force - the command structure is in triplicate so we can't expect to assassinate everyone of importance. What we can do is stall the entire fortification process and foment disorder on a grand scale. When men go hungry, they get angry.
>>24445329I like this. Let's make some urban legends about the all-consuming shadow!
>>24445272>southwestI really hope I said southeast in regards to the earth. Because I meant southeast.ALSOTo quote an anon from the last thread:>You are considering the first 10 rolls for 1s and 100s. This gives a chance of about 18.3% to either critical fail or win. I just wanted you to be aware that roughly one in 5 rolls you ask for will be critical. Taking only the first 5 rolls into consideration would lead to a ration of about 1 to 10 of critical rolls to normal results. It is your decision to make, but I for one like my characters abilities to be somewhat reliable and having a one in five chance for it to go right or wrong regardless of how good the ability is supposed to be is too unreliable for my tastes.>My suggestion is that instead of having 1s and 100s determine the entire result you count them as an addition the the results. For example if a roll was failed but you roll a 100 you can salvage your failure and don't have backlash from your failure. Basically a 1 just makes the result worse, a 100 makes it better without determining the entire thing.I was already concerned about the high crit percentage, so I'm changing to this method. Crits WITHIN THE FIRST THREE ROLLS will count as "super crits" that decide the majority of the action. Crits WITHIN THE FIRST TEN ROLLS will tilt the roll outcome either way, such as saving you from 'backlash' or making an otherwise successful attack a 'glancing blow'.

You decide that sitting around and waiting wouldn't accomplish much. You have to hit them where it hurts. You don't need food, beyond eating to replenish your stamina. But humans must eat just to live - and frequently. You wonder how they'd react if you consumed their stores. You decide that you'd like to find out.You slither and slip and sneak your way up toward the half-constructed fortress. There's a lot of torchlight, but you clamber up a darker side of the wall and perch near the top for a better view. The inside of the fort is a hive of activity. A wide breach in the north end, opposite you, looks like the foundations of a gate. To the west is a long pen sloping down the hill holding what must be several hundred horses. The square fort itself is divided into quadrants. Two are filled with rows of small tents; another, larger pavilions and tents. The final fourth is set with long tables crowded with soldiers, and has several long, wide pavilions with crates and barrels stacked inside. It seems as though you've found your target. There's more than a few mages, but they seem concentrated in the section with the larger, fancier tents. Perfect. You sneak toward the storage tents...Roll 1d100

You slink along in the darkness near where the earthen wall rises. Soon, you're at the entrance to the supply tents.A man is standing outside one with several leafs of paper and a harried look on is face. A group of men enter, then leave, all carrying several crates and barrels back toward the mess tables. The man makes some scratchy notes, then scurries away. You're alone. You slip into the tent. You can taste the aroma of food...and in the barrels, water, and something else - it smells a bit like the bar Flint was at. But more like the red drink that the duke was always sipping at meals. You spread out like a tidal wave of black ink and consume the tent, piece by piece, eating through wood, paper, acidifying water, liquifying dried meats and hard biscuits. You feel full, but as if you could consume forever. If you had lips, you'd smack them. You do it anyway, using ink to make large, heavy smacking sounds. Human peculiarities are oddly entertaining. When you're done, all that remains is several sizable barrels of what you think is beer and twenty caskets of wine. You've no desire to imbibe any of Flint's ignorance potions. You turn to leave......the frazzled counting man is standing at the entrance to the tent. He stands there, stunned. His pen and papers slip from his hands and scatter across the grass. His mouth opens and closes without making any sounds. What do you do?>CONSUME>run!

I feel like I'm missing something here. What is rock candy and how can it be mountains?
You shock the man with two impressions. In your first image, he tries to flee. A shadowy tentacle grabs his leg, then drags him back, kicking, screaming all the way until you devour him in your form.A dark stain forms around the man's crotch. He whimpers. You send him a second image of him crawling into the corner, putting his hands over his head, and of you walking out of the tent. The intent of the message is clear. The man scrambles into the corner and ducks his head, sniffling and shaking. You smash the barrels to pieces, breaking the wood and spraying the wine and beer everywhere. The liquid pours across the ground and is soon muddied and useless. You slip out from the tent just in time to evade a group coming to investigate the source of the sound...You dig your claws into the earthen wall and quickly scale to the top, and burrow in slightly to watch the chaos you've created. You hear shouts of anger and a terrified voice echo from within the tent. More men gather when they hear. Whispers and words become a confused, babbled roar as the commotion draws the attention of more and more soldiers.Eventually, one group is fed up and begins to rip the cloth of the pavilion away.Finding it empty, a majority of the crowd goes silent. They begin to work faster, lifting the cloth up and over the several wooden stakes supporting its girth. It's not long until they realize all their supplies have vanished, and the caskets have been broken. The soldiers mob the now panic stricken man for an explanation. The word of a shadowy creature spread quickly.Officers are quick to arrive next, shouting the men off from the supply area. They snap back to other tasks - the Kanians aren't without discipline - but you know that they're still thinking, no matter what their orders.Your work here is done, for the moment.Balls of magic are headed your way...a confrontation with the mages on their turf might be pushing things.con't

>>24446467didn't the mages talk about how they were trying to get to it, and they needed the four keys?
>>24446467We discovered that the kanian mages are looking for 4 keys to that very area. That's pretty much it. We'll need to fetchitem eventually.
>>24446467>>24446467Sure, you can do that. Before, when you were already in the church and listening in on the mages investigating the energy, I gave the option to "shadow the mages, see if they find anything". Everyone wanted to go to Abigail's house.Consider my list a basic template for obvious actions to try and keep chaos to a minimum. I do not pretend to think of everything, and it is in no way meant to limit you. But if I just said "what do you want to do" I'd get as many different answers as there are voters, which would make it harder to consolidate.

>>24446584Mimic doesn't cost mana, anon.
>>24446555Yikes let me rephrase that:Make an effort to impression those that look like they have higher ranks with despair and loss related material. While avoiding the mages.
------------------------------------You leave the fortress, sneaking down the hill.A few horses shy away and whinny at your presence. A passing patrol gives the animals an odd look, but after glancing around, they shrug and continue on.Your quickly reach the edge of the trees. The lumberjacks have made quick work of the outer forest, leaving it a narrow field of stumps.Torches light the work area. It seems they're cutting through the night. They're scattered up and down the edge of the wood in a thin line. Perhaps a few dozen soldiers are amongst them, holding conversation and watching the night. You work your way to the edge of the line, where there is less light and fewer men.Three soldiers stand at the end of the line of lumberjacks, a short distance from the next group. Two men are working a long saw on a tree. The soldiers are quiet for the moment. The background of axes hacking and saws grating wood covers the sound of your footsteps easily. You settle just inside the trees, further in the dark. What do you do?>pick off one of the lumberjacks and drag him away>attack the soldiers first, then turn on the woodsmen>consume one of them right then and there, letting the others run off>some other strategy
>>24446564it's no an army of idiots. They got mages there. mages that will try yhe best to detect us from now on. >>"investigate mysterious energy beneath town", try to hide our energy

You creep up behind the soldiers. One shifts from side to side."Hey. You hear what - "Your shadow pierces his skull. His words turn into a rattling gurgle, then die as his corpse slides back on the spear of your shadow. Blood trickles onto the ground. The other two soldiers turn at the odd noise.Your shadow attack pierces the other two soldiers in quick succession, one in the head, the other through his chest. The one struggles and coughs, spluttering blood for a few long, painful moments. He goes slack. You release your shadowy spears, and the bodies fall to the ground with a thump. You steal away back into the trees just in time for the lumberjacks to stop sawing. They look over, freeze. Their cries for help are quick to go up over the rest of the line.Men and lumberjacks gather around the fallen corpses. One of the men, wearing a rather fancy helmet with a red plume, quickly takes command of the situation. Runners head off toward the fortress. The lumberjacks are pressed back to work.Their work proceeds slowly, and fitfully. They mutter to each other, keeping one eye on the dark wood. You pose as a tree, using mimic to hold your form. You put a bit of effort into making your outside look like bark. In the flickering half-light of the torches, you blend in easily. Two lumberjacks begin to move toward you."...I dunno. I want my shift to be up already.""Think it's some kinda magic? I heard a mage talking about something under this town...and I heard another rumor they found a pit full of dead bodies past some of the farmhouses. Sounds like plague."The other man shivers. "Don't want to think about it."They reach your position and raise their axes. You warp, shiver. They stand there, stunned, and their faces slowly transform into masks of horror. Alright then. Didn't get to post this last time so I guess I'll say it now.META TIME!We are the manifestation of the imbalance of magic on this plane. There's a finite amount of magic of each element, and those are all equal.Shadow, and spirit to a somewhat lesser extent, are extremely limited in quantity in comparison with Light and the higher elements. We are shadow because we are that which was manifested by the background magic to restore balance. We might do this by consuming or destroying enough sources of higher elements, especially light - the more we do, the more light would come into us, fixing the balance. As another option, we could inspire a greater quantity of shadow and spirit magic to be used in the world. However, if we did that to the point of perfect equilibrium, we would likely fade out, due to a lack of imbalance to spawn us.If we killed and consumed ALL the magic in the world, the balance would be restored, and we would become the very incarnation of magical power on this plane. A scale with no weights is a balanced one, is it not?If we destroy more of the lower elemental manifestations - shadow, spirit, earth, water - then we would become more powerful in their aspects, because the imbalance would be greater, and as we are a product of the imbalance, that power would flow to us.If we made an empire and magery of the lower elements, then killed and destroyed all of the higher elements, we would gradually change during the process and become a higher-element-style elemental.Seems legit? Counter-arguments?

>>24448015>There's a finite amount of magic of each element, and those are all equal. This is the problem with your theory. There is not a finite amount of magic in the world.Other than that, I neither confirm nor deny, which is my official position on all player theories.
>>24448015.....but you did post it
>>24448010this pool is the spirit lady, or nice lady, way to recover. Just find her...
>>24448015Yeah, I'm pretty certain that we're not a magical imbalance, but just part of a general return of magic. It seems very likely that we are Erebus, the old super shadow elemental, reawakened, reborn, remade, etc... It also seems very likely that the other super elementals are waking up too, as we could sense them when we were in the shadow cavern. Also, the last super elementals empowered their servants with their elemental power at no apparent loss of power, so it seems likely that there isn't a finite amount of magic/power in the world.

>>24448347>Bringer of JusticeI like that. Justice isn't bright or cheery, its dark and sullen, its grim and we do what me must

-------------------Extra note on summons:Summoning takes a turn. Summons above level 2 take 2 turns of battle.Commanding a summon to do something is a free action, and theirs will take place simultaneously with your own next action. For example, you could have your summon distract an enemy while you flank it, and these happen at the same time.---------------------You jump out into the hole. You fall....and fall. Faster, now.You slow your descent with your wings, and continue to slowly fall. Finally, you settle on the ground. This place...is dark. You feel right at home. You're at the end of a massive cavern. You walk forward, keeping your guard up and your wings ready. Your wisp seems to sense your attitude...it buzzes near your head, darting here and there in constant vigilance. You walk for a long time. The cavern continues, wide, lengthy, a deep bore through the earth. You're rather certain you're heading south, toward Jacob's Field...because the sense of the Spirit under the town is growing larger with every step. Finally, you reach the end of the cave.A door looms above you. The ancient vault soars all the way to the ceiling. It is divided into four sections. Each is carved with a different symbol; one for wind, fire, lightning, and light. At the bottom of the door are four round holes. They show slightly different pictorials within their indents. Each one shows the matching elemental opposites - a wave and a flame, a mountain and a cloud, a bolt of lightning and what appears to be a ghost - and then a sun and a moon, just like on the key you hold. What do you do?>insert your key>leave. You shouldn't take further risks alone.
>>24448409insert keyThis seems eerily similar to our cave
>>24448409Insert the key.I know Flint would try to stop us, so we might as well do it now while we're alone.
>>24448409>>leave. You shouldn't take further risks alone.leave it alone, we dont want the mages to sense any changes. lets just seal it behind us and leave
>>24448409>insert your keyGive it the key?
>>24448409don't touch it
>>24448442Well, it is a "nice lady"...
>>24448409we have the only key to this chamber, lets close it and make sure he mages cant get in
>>24448409Insert the keySee if this gets a reaction out of the Nice lady and try to communicate with her.
>>24448409>insert keyWhen Flint returns we may not have time to investigate. Remember, shit IS going down right now, we're just no seeing it.
>>24448439This. There is an entire fucking army literally on top of us, and it'd be kind of bad to draw attention without any kind of backup.
>>24448439seconding this. now that we have confirmed that we do indeed hold one of the four keys, it is best to not use it while there are enemy forces trying to break into the vault themselves. Wait until we have the other three as well. then we can open it up.
>>24448409Leave because this is the door that the mages were trying to access and if we can't get our key back from the door after putting it to the lock then we won't be able to hold the sun&moon key away from the mages to prevent them from accessing when we're not around.
Leave it alone, maybe try talking to the nice lady
>>24448409Let's not insert the key at the moment. We don't want to leave the pathway open for someone else, and once this key is gone, it's not coming back.
>>24448409insert the key we don't have the other three keys anywaywe will have to find them to free the spirit elemental
>>24448409seriously, with the ONLY key to this chamber the mages won't be able to get in. lets leave it alone
>>24448478Wait a minute. What if these mages have one of the other keys? That's the only possible explanation for how they would think they could get in!
>>24448489Bad idea because that makes someone else able to get to it before we do.I say we keep the key with US.
>>24448409okay, lets just leave it alone everyone. the last thing we want is the army coming to the keep after we leave and find the chamber open because we used the only key
>>24448468Change this to do not insert key.
>>24448409See if we can communicate with whoever is inside the vault first. If not, then insert the key and try to communicate again.
----------------------------------The door radiates power......you're wary of disturbing such a thing alone, with an army above you trying to get to this very spot. You shouldn't do anything rash. You pocket the key.You remember the voice that spoke to you during the battle for Jacob's Field...<Hello?> you project toward the door. <Can you hear me? Hello?!>There's no response. You sigh, then turn and head back the other way.Confident in your surroundings, you take flight, flapping up and into the air. You soar up back through the hole......something pricks at your backside...a familiar feeling of wind...?! Even here? You flap your wings faster, but the Sky-Sever pursues you. The rush of air increases around you...You shoot back into Adavan's chamber and roll onto the ground. The air dies, and goes still.Nowhere is safe from that awful spell. You stand, and glance at the wisp, still hovering by your side.Wait a minute. The wisp...it's constantly flying. Why isn't it getting attacked? You press your thoughts at the wisp.It only answers with uncertainty.Just what you don't need - more questions. What do you do now?>explore somewhere else (specify location/action)>mediate until dawn

>>24448623lets experiment with our knowledge and the wisp, then meditate
>>24448654Birds and other creatures of flight are mostly extinct. This includes quite a few bugs, but most bugs land often enough to escape the spell, so it didn't really cause the ecological collapse you'd think it might. Shadow, are you - ugh! Whoa, whoa, ahhh!"You hear a bang, and a crash, and a tumultuous tumble of steel clanking and mashing against stone.Sir Donovan Flint tumbles to a halt at the bottom of the stairwell. He groans, then rolls over. "...fuck me."<Flint?! Are you alright?>"...good, you're here." Flint struggles upright. "Believe it or not, I've had worse." He picks himself off and brushes his armor. "I got past the Kanians without bringing them all down on my head, so I guess it had to catch up to me sometime..."<Well, if you say so.> You settle lower. <Are we off? In any case, I've got some things - >"No," Flint says. "We've got problems. Big problems. Nulis Vin - uh, that's the lord of Kan-Abar - he's marching on Evinbrook. They'll be in full combat by now, and Vin's come with a near army of demons."<I know. I've been...-helping- the Kanians adjust.>Flint grins. "So that's what got them riled up. I sort of figured." His smile fades fast. "What do I need to know?"<I've found a way under the keep to where the great force of spirit is sealed,> you explain. You raise the Sun-Moon key. <This opens the way. The Kanians are looking for a way down, but they don't know about the keys. We need three more.>"For what, exactly?" Flint asks.<Answers - I hope.>"...well. Anything about the attack?"<Apparently this Lord Vin has summoned and is controlling a demon lord. Does that mean anything to you?>con't
So I've been re-reading old threads, and it came to me that the elf-woman who teleported us to Jacob's Field did so absolutely on purpose. Not only do we get away from the evil vampire queen, and out into the world to consume and grow in power, but we also are placed near the Spirit Patron, who will without a doubt be a great ally. The elf-queen is bro-tier of the highest caliber
Flint goes white. "...demon...lord. You're sure you heard those words. Demon lord?"<I'm sure.>"Oh dear light. Shit, I'm standing here. I might as well pray to the shadow, too." Flint holds his head in his hands. "If it ever gets out that there's any kind of relationship between us, I am going to be hunted down and skinned alive by my own family, you know that?"<Flint, focus.>"...a demon lord," Flint mutters. "Last time one was around was when the Black Lady summoned one. That was the last time the war in the Frontier escalated to open combat, fifty years ago. Two angels were able to bring it down. One of them, Raphael, is still famously crippled to this day. He was the greatest healer in the land - well, he still is. But he can't walk any more."<...I thought he was a healer.>"Even he can't cure the curse the demon lord put on him, stealing his legs. But he got the last laugh - banished it back to the nether." Flint pounds his gauntlets together. "But in a way, this is good. Auriel stuck around Evinbrook, poking around a bit. I had to pretty much tell her everything about Jacob's field..."<What do you tell her?!>Flint raises his hands. "Hey, what was I going to do, refuse her?"<...fair enough.>"I told her you appeared out of nowhere. I was...as vague as possible. But she probably got all she needed to know about Abigail from the townspeople." Flint sighs. "On the other hand...she is suspicious of the duke, but she'll fight on his side against a demon. That's dark magic right there, if nothing else is."<What exactly is the nature of the nether?>"An alternate plane," Flint says. "No specialty of mine. Nasty things live there, mages can bring them here to do their bidding."Flint takes a breath. "The duke asked me to get you back there just before I was able to get away from Auriel. He needs all the help he can get."con't
>>24449071But she also sealed our memories didn't she?
>>24449091Looks like a demon lord is some serious shitall the more reason to put some more EXP into summoning
>>24449093Here's the quote from the first thread"The memories...so close--if you could just reach out, you know you could--'I will give you choice,' the woman says."So yes, and apparently it was a good thing.

>>24449133Or Shadow Assault. Let's see the demon lord resist a Void Ring.
>>24449175We already saw an angel resist a void ring.
------------------------------------<Help? With a war? With an angel and a demon lord?>"Don't know if you've noticed, but you're pretty powerful," Flint says. "And..." he frowns. "I still...demons, Shadow. Nulis isn't just an enemy of Kelvere. He's an enemy of everything decent in this world, using them just to power his ambitions. Like a dark mirror of the duke...if that's possible." Flint sighs. "I guess what I'm saying is, I feel like I should be a part of this battle."<With that thing attached to your soul?>"I've gotten this far," Flint says firmly. "I won't let it stop me from doing what I think is right. And I say we can't well adventure after a lich and Abigail while our backside is being overrun with demons, and good people are dying."<What's stopping Auriel from calling in backup?>"The Ring City is very far from here," he says. "It'll take the angels half a week to fly, probably, and they'd be exhausted. Their two airships - the Velarion and the Noiralev - are the greatest in the world. They can even warp from place to place, but only once per month, or thereabouts. The Velarion just warped into Evinbrook, which is how they surprised the duke. And if the other could warp in, it would have done so already." Flint frowns deeply. "We're on our own. Unless you join us. I saw your speed, before. It's unlike anything I've witnessed before. You - we can make a difference in this fight. Even if it's just to save one life, it's worth it. Isn't it?"What is your response?(write in)

Besides, we might have a little free time whilst fighting off demons to see to your curse. >>24449190you reflect on your time with Flint, he has stood by you and you know he will dye for a cause. Even you.<I am no hero Flint, my actions have saved lives but have ended more still. >>24449190We can do no more than the right as we see it.Society under the angels has no place for us, but at least it is a society. The demons are enemies of everyone. But those fucking yokels and their tripped-up angel faglords should be damn grateful about how selfless we're about to be.

"...I never had a friend that simply trusted me like you did. That joined me on what I believed was a suicidal adventure. That showed me a shadow elemental...could feel, like a human."When the survivors of the airship crash returned to town, they spoke of a dark thing - a thing that drove back the Sky-Sever and saved their lives. But you know - Auriel tried to press the crewmembers into else. But they were adamant that you'd saved them from a rampaging angel. They seemed to think it was the duke's work, protecting them from the unwanted influence of the Ring City. He was quick to spin it that way. It bothered Auriel, their defense of you." >>24449924Maybe we can show her how "good" we are when we kill/consume the demon lord. And then afterwards look at her and lick our ambiguous lips.
-------------------------You've chosen to Super Sonic all the way there.Roll 1d100, I need 6 rolls.-------------------------
Rolled 97>>24449965LETS GO FAST
Rolled 93>>24449965Seals. Clubs. You get the picture, dice gods.
Rolled 30>>24449965I like where these rolls are going
Rolled 36>>24449965GOTTA GOFAST
Rolled 31>>24449972>>24449973>>24449986nice. we finaly get some good luck
>>24450004THAT'S STILL PRETTY FAST
So if we had gotten a string of 100's would we have Schattenkrieged into the demon lord, CONSUMing his face?
>>24450045That would be the second time a critically succeeding dodge led to us CONSUMing and outsider's face. Lulz were had when Dickiel literally had no face after we were done with him.
>>24450033I can think of only three outcomes1. Rip a hole in the material universe due to travelling at a speed that is incomprehensible. Rocks fall EVERYONE dies.2. We gain instant transmission technique/teleportation3. We destroy SkySever and other effects happen.
>>24450074we lol'd his face off
>>24450094Yeah, but a string of 100s is very nearly impossible.Like, right up there with you being spontaneously being transported into the quest setting and CONSUMED by Mr. Shadow.
>>24450094>2. We gain instant transmission technique/teleportationThe airships the angels have can warp once a month, so there might be a magical ability that let's us do something similar.
>>24450144>>24450144>very nearlyBUT it is still possible on the day it happens all of /tg/ will bear witness to the anomaly, if I saw it though i would have no eyes to see anything ever again.
<Alright. I'm going to fly us back.>"Uh...I mean, we have to get back quickly, but we're not going that fast." Flint looks at you. "Right?"You grab him."Shadow? Shadow, just put me down for a second!"You aura gathers behind you and goes still, like a shadow frozen in place."Shadow, let's plan this out!"BOOOM----------------------------------------You zip over Jacob's Field so quickly the buildings blur in your sight. The sound of the air around you vanishes as you outpace your own ability to hear. Flint's face is contorted in a constant scream of terror. You can't hear him, but you can see his adam's apple bursting from his throat.Serves him right for twisting your arm.And then you hear it......the Sky-Sever. Wind, rustling, stabbing, needling!>you take 1 damageYou pour on the speed. You can't stop now!>you take 1 damageThe river turns into a undulating snake as you cruise along. The force of the wind steadily increases, but your aura slashes back, holding it at bay!Hills ripple beneath you. Farmland flickers in your sight, then is gone. The wind continues to assault your sides!>you've taken 2 damageThe wind is getting fiercer, but you're almost there! You think you can recognize the terrain!>you've taken 1 damageYou cut out your supersonic.WHOMPHYou beat your wings, then land on a nearby hill. The winds fade, and vanish.(HP: 16/21)You release Flint. He stumbles forward, then falls onto his hands and knees. "...thank you, earth spirit." Flint collapses. "Never again. Never, ever again, do you hear me?"You're about to make a smug response...The roar of an explosion, muffled by distance, cuts you off.You turn around.con't
>>24450192Well, there's a 1 in a million chance of getting three 100s. And we're up to over 24 million posts. It may have happened at some point in the /tg/ past
>>24450147>>24450094>ripping the space time continuumWhat? More like this:>not taking continually increasing amounts of damage from defying the Sky-Sever for so long
>>24450199shadowWUT R U DOINSHADOWSTAHPflint's adorable
>>24450211But have there been 24 million rolls? No probably not.
>>24450224I think all 100's for a roll call would be worth more than just not taking damage for a singular flight, unless you are talking about never taking damage from Sky-Sever ever again.
>>24450267Although we'd probably just get bonus exp from it (a lot), or a rollover crit.
>>24450278>>24450267Or he'd be a sensible GM and leave the rolls where they belong. It might not sound as interesting but things can get skewed once rolls start metastasizing.
>>24450199You're on the opposite side of the castle from the battle, but you can see and hear it very plainly. The horizon beyond the castle is stained red and black. Lights pulse amongst the clouds and around pillars of smoke. The castle's highest keep has a hole torn in its side. The Velarion circles the battle. It's unlike the other airship - almost solid steel, all lights and shine, but it's scarred from the battle. Its hull is smoking, and there are tears in its armor plating. Lights still pulse from its underside, bombs of fire and lightning. You see clouds gathering around a small form on the top of the keep. Lightning pulses around him, arcs of gold energy snapping and cracking across the battlefield like the sound of a thunderstorm. Bolts of the energy strike the ground, doing damage you can't see. You recognize that aura - it's the duke. You're glad you didn't try to fight him.A flash of light like a sunray pierces the sky from near the Velarion, boring a hole through the clouds. A might dome of darkness thrums suddenly, humming with power. A deep rumble roars over the entire field as the powers clash. The ray of light snakes across the dome, leaving an ugly red scar, but it's ultimately unable to penetrate. The darkness fires back. It's like a missile of shadow, aimed at the airship. The blast strikes home. It seems to be partially deflected by the airships energy, but another smoking tear is ripped in the hull."War," Flint whispers.----------------------------------------------------------------END OF THREADNext time, the Battle of Evinbrook begins.Next thread Friday night, between 5-8pm EST, hopefully. Because I have no life.Ask me questions while I brush my teeth!
>>24450312but 6 one hundreds in a row is like 1/1000000000000 odds unless it was a bug
>>24450267If three 100s happened, I would have no idea how to react.Even as I wrote that, though, I started getting ideas on how to react. But it's not going to happen, so it's not a problem.
>>24450339Can we eat magic that is hostile to us?
>>24450368Oh well.My question, SM, is what did you think of the name Umbra, that I have mentioned us changing our name to, every now and again.
>>24450368I don't think anyone would know how to react at that point beyond screencapping it.
>>24450339Thanks for running this SM and don't worry. It's okay not to have a life.Flint is going to be that one character that drags us into untold amount of conflicts isn't he?
I was wondering, where exasctly did the angels come from? Are they lower-level elementals, or are they the equivalent of Light-element summons, or what?
Can't wait for next one...Also, I had an idea. We should have Mr Shadow conquer Kan-Abur and then ally with the duke. Then get flint to take his brother's place... then we will be the 3 king bffs :)
>>24450339I just want to thank you for running this SM, my first 2 quest threads were this and the previous one, and it was awesome when my suggestion unlocked summoning
>>24450419It also explains why your suggestions are just so fucking-Ahh, whatever, nevermind. Not worth holding onto.Good thread SM, catch you on friday.
Rolled 37>>24450415I'm wondering this as well. Are they just a winged race and not supernatural at all?
>>24450415Maybe they are augmented humans?
>>24450382No. It takes you a bit of time to consume something, so eating a magical spell coming at you is a bit out of the question. You also can consume a sword or spear stabbed your way for the same reason. You've got to engulf it, latch on to it.>>24450385>what did you think of the name UmbraSounds too much like Umbreon.>>24450398>Flint is going to be that one character that drags us into untold amount of conflicts isn't he?If you keep giving into him without counterarguments, then yes, I suppose he'll be doing quite a bit of that. Not that I wouldn't have made the same choice just now, but if you stop to help a cat down out of every tree there's going to be consequences. Not that there won't be consequences for everything.>>24450415>I was wondering, where exasctly did the angels come from? That's an excellent question to ask...when you're having a conversation with someone, later.>>24450419Glad you're enjoying it. I enjoy writing it.Thread is archived on suptg.
>>24450509>You also can consume a sword orShould be "you also CAN'T consume a sword"
>>24450536Could we increase our reaction times, or start up to consume later?
I can't wait to find out how badly Abigail and SOM are doing. They've been out of our sight so long that I know for certain something has happened with them.
>>24450551No, there is no upgrade to consumption reaction time. Your physical speed is already extremely high, actually. It's by far your best stat.I'll also point out that you haven't really horrendously failed a consume roll yet. Consume is always an option...but that doesn't mean it's the best solution.
>>24450598What the hell does SOM stand for? I missed the post when that became an acronym.
>>24450598Presumably Lich-bro has turned Abigail evil and is busy carving out a kingdom of the undead somewhere in the forest.
>>24450627Smelly Old Man. Adavan. Lich. Zombie Face. Dead Head. Spirit Teacher. Flint's best man. Y'know.
>>24450651Remember when he suggested to modify the mind of ... whatshisname?
>Missed the entire quest thread>AGAINFUCKING TIMEZONES
>>24450723Ahh shit, he suggested modifying Joey's memories. He could have modified Abigails by now, easily.
When we can we should really get Shadow shield. I mean with all this magic being flung around we might want a small improvement to our resistance.
>>24450800I'll second it when it comes up in the future threads. It does strike me as one of those "these is too useful to not have" abilities. I also want to go for Fog, Shadow Walk, and Quiet so we can be really, really stealthy when it matters.
>>24450832Once we get a larger mana pool we can add Shadowmeld to our list of stealth must haves because being able to sneak past mages would be nice.
