>>24428558We need to figure out how level scaling works. Is it going to be like BL1 where each level gives a set additive bonus? BL2 where each level gives a 13% exponential bonus? DnD where each level rolls dice and if you get shitty rolls you're fucked for that level?
>>24428689I never applied Hit Dice to players, I always just gave them the maximum value of the hit die.
>>24428722Let's not have this discussion here.
So we talked about guns that are of white, green or blue quality being standard models and variants produced by the company, but I was thinking blue weapons could also have a chance of being a randomly generated unique seeing as some weapons such as Flint's Tinderbox are blue quality, nothing too special but still technically a unique weapon.
>>24428689More importantly, how many levels are we going to have? 20? 70? 200?
>>24428769I always saw white grade as junk, green as basic civilian models, blue as military grade, purple and higher as super pro bro elite beat tactical operator crew cut tier
>>24428769Well to fully decide this we would need to work out how drops would work in the first place, would they roll to see what drops, assuming the enemies already have white quality guns, grenades and/or shields, then rolls determine if they're actually carrying a better quality of those items, or what.>>24428689I think it should either be BL1 or BL2 style and not hit dice.I'm for preserving the feeling of Borderlands where the player characters are pretty much super heroes fighting countless numbers of foes, along with Badass enemies getting thrown in that would be roughly the same power level as the players
>>24428825Honestly, this works for me.
>>24428784I'm going to cast my vote for 300. No more, no less.
>>2442878490 or 30.
This thread seems to be going a lot slower than the first one.We need to get those creative juices (read: blood thinner and marker fumes) flowing.
>>24428953Why 61 and not some nice, rounded number, like 60, 64, 65, or 66?
>>24428976No anon the harpy female bandit is bad enough.
>>24429002Because that's the highest level you can go ingame.Although technically it's 50, and the last 11 levels are a DLC
>>24429003there is never enough insane crazy
>>2442900260 is too low, 64 is for nerdfags, 65 is pretentious, 66 is hurr so edgy
>>24429053Well then, what about 62?
>>2442907262 is stupid normalfag tier. That's not who we're marketing to.
>>24429072Too round. 61 is a prime number. You hit your level cap in your prime.
>>24429088What about 69 then? That number is perfect for our demographic!
>>24429053i want to say go with 69 from the original BL, buuut.....i dont think its a good idea
>>24429127>>24429121It's why I said 70.
>>24428825I like this. But they should still be specific models.Whites just being extremely poor condition not well taken care of civilian models, then greens being the standard civilian models, blues being upgraded version of the civilian models for military purposes. Then purples would be the procedural generated customized wepaons for soupa kewl operators an Corporation gun clubs Deluxe Members.Oranges beign the pride and joy of Company Gunsmiths,
>>24429145What's wrong with 69? We gotta stay true to the source material bro!
>>24429253That sounds pretty good. But what of E-Techs, Pearls, and Seraph stuff?
>>24429348E-Techs are E-Techs, experimental weapons made with the research grants and Eridium bought from Hyperion, probably should be on par with if not a bit rarer than purples. And Pearls would be, like Oranges, the master gunsmith's pride and joy.Not sure about Seraph..
>>24429386Perhaps Seraphs are made by wandering/mysterious gunsmiths that alter some already existing designs and make some new ones i.e. Bouncing Bonnie/Crossfire or stuff like Ahab
>>24429386Considering the importance of the Seraph crystals, the Guardians and the special dealer just for them I'd imagine them to be something at least kinda significant.
>>24429386Seraph tech uses a type of tiny, rare crystal that actually forms in the blood of humans when exposed to extremely high levels of slag, high temperatures, some industrial/weaponized solvents, ludicrous amounts of electrical current and emps, often from large explosions. These small crystals form in a fashion somewhat similar to gallstones, but take many years of exposure to the aforementioned stimuli to build up to a non-microscopic size.tl;dr If a human stays alive for a long time under constant exposure to EVERYTHING BAD, that badass motherfuckers blood literally becomes seraph crystals.
>>24429499it could work
>>24429499I love it!So we got wanna be sirens, jacked up on alcohol, slag and marker fumes, and have decided Seraph gear is made from the crystallized blood of Badasses. This is why you guys are awesome.
What would happen if we gave a Bandit Gunsmith a copy of every talking gun?
So, /tg/, how are we going to stat THIS GUY?
>>24429697Bandit proceeds to chop them all up with a buzz axe, causing them all to scream out of pain, taping and welding them back together to create a wondrous super gun who lives every moment of it's horrible life in a constant agony. And you though machines couldn't feel pain
>>24429603Well then I suggest we start with how characters will be built.Action Skills: Every PC will have 1 and only one. It will function as a once-per-encounter power (in most cases; some, eg. phaselock or deception would be usable more often.) and be constructed from a variety of freeform, vague powers similar to BESM, using a point-buy for balance.
>>24429740Now what if we gave him every talking gun, a disabled super badass loader, and a badass constructor?
>>24429752and by free form you mena they get to make their own unique skill?Like a Soldier/Commando could construct a custom turret from the list of atributes, a Mechromancer could make their own Deathtrap, Slag Harpies would make their own unique Phase power, Zerkers choose their flavor of rage ect.?
>>24429835not even soldier making a turret, etc. More like breaking it down into:Summon Pet (eg. Death Trap, Turrets, Bloodwing)Hyper Mode (eg. Deception, Phasewalk, Gunzerk, Berserk)One-hit Wonder (eg. Phaselock)And maybe any other core types we can think of. And different things like means of perpetuation for hyper mode, or durability/duration for pet, etc. would all cost points to flesh out your action skill.
>>24429712Assuming we're working with DnD style 3d6 stats11 Stronk17 Beefy17 Speedy18 Shooty17 Smarts18 GreasyNext.
>>24430019Raidboss stats are probably going to be much, much higher than what PCs can reach, so some of those 17s and 18s should probably be into the 20+ range. I agree with the 11 STR though.
>>24430019>Master Gee>18 Greasy
>>24428976Thread is definitely slower. I think it's because all the East Coast kids are asleep now.
>>24430148Threads sink fast on /tg/.
>>24430148I'm east coast, but Lamia Quest keeps me up at nights. So, Badass Points, similar to Fate Points in Dark Heresy or Action Points in DnD?Have such allowed uses as:1p] As an immediate action, any currently wielded weapon's magazine becomes instantly filled, this does not consume or require reserve ammunition.3p] Any rounds fired during the next 1 attack action which connect with an enemy, are automatically headshots. This also applies to a well-aimed grenade toss.
>>24430287Btw, by Grenade headshot, I means something along the lines of an 80mph nade fastball into some bandit's bitch face, followed by pic related.
Rolled 59I wonder what sorts of starting quests a game like this would have?or will someone assemble a random table with things like X(NPC) wants you to Y( general activity) at Z(location)>>24430287>>24430333either of you do the grenade sniping thing?where you get a longbow sticky grenade and headshot guys across the arena/area
>>24429922>Slag Harpy takes Summon>Summons a phase version of herself that runs forwards and explodes
>>24430489That would work more as a One-hit Wonder, since it's essentially an eldritch heat-seeker rocket with titties.
>>24430287with things such as instant magazine fill It think it would be okay if the badass points overlapped with some classes skills.Obviously you would rack up Badass Points by doing Badass things, killing huge enemies, blowing shit up, being extra particularly greesy during negotiations, pretty much anything the GM deems appropriate, and then once you have your badass points you spend them to do badass things.I like this idea,
>>24430489>Slag Harpy takes Summon>Summons an ethereal Butt StallionFixdI ALWAYS WANTED A PONY!
>>24430604Diamond Horse Harpy ChildThe DHHC
>>24430533Another use:1p] (MIGHTY MIGHTY) Spend a badass point after connecting with a melee attack to add another full weapon profile to the damage roll and leave the target prone after the strike. The melee attack becomes a German Suplex, one-handed choke slam (Jordan-esque tongue lolling optional), Shoryuken, flying headbutt, or other sufficiently GAR maneuver. Player rolls intimidate as a free action on nearby mook-tier enemies.
Rolled 61perhaps a cap to the points to prevent players from hoarding them, cap equals level.aside from just being awesome is there another use for them?also what kind of system might this run in?I was thinking a modified shadowrun system with some of the other bonus rule-sets like cinematic gameplay (SR4A pg74) you could treat badassness like edge then...>>24430647I like this
>>24429922I think we should still figure out exactly wha tour classes will be first.I sayAssassin (functions as both Zer0 and Mordecai)Commando (equal to Axton and Roland)Zerker (could be gun or melee or maybe something else if you could think of it, Brick and Salvador)Slag Harpy (Psuedo-sirens, like Maya and Lilith)Then possibly other classes like Psycho for being an insane melee and axe thrower, possible skills for breathing elemental weapons, Nomads, where you a huge shield and lots of defence, along with the ability to command midgets... or something, just throwing out ideas.
>>24430723Actually, we could fluff the collected pool of badass points as having an effect something like the character exuding your standard "mysterious/ominous asskicker" aura and making jumpy enemies always target them first in combat. As the player exerts badass points, they become less ominously threatening and more flat-out terrifying, whereupon enemies will tend to avoid pissing that person off.
>>244306472p] As an immediate action, any currently equipped shield generators are instantly recharged. Shields must be fully depleted before use.
>>24430836Special effects require standard recharge maybe?
>>24430836>The BeeWho says we'd include that munchkin-baiting flavorless piece of shit?
Rolled 79>>24430789I like this...>>24430775>commandoperhaps calling it "tactical" or "supporter" and including drones like deathtrap and vehicle proficiencies.
>>24430863Ooh! I like Tactical. He could get medic abilities like Roland had, turret ability, or some sort of drone, and I like the idea of this one being the vehicle proficiency class, I was thinking either the Soldier or the Mechromancer would get vehicles. Also Tactical makes me think of Space Marines,
>>24430902>I was thinking either the Soldier or the Mechromancer would get vehicles.I think there should be a midget-only beastrider class.
>>24430863Gun Specialist (Sniper, Machine Gunner, Pistolero)Trooper (Generally well-rounded soldier)Engineer (Tech'd the fuck up)Support (Medic, Guardian, Resupply, etc.)Wildcard (Wildly unbalanced, has few useful base skills, but gets 1 extra feat, or quirky ability at creation)
Rolled 75>>24430990I'm cool with this...I support this set up option...do we limit them to no powers till level 5 like the games?can't do the fun badass stuff till you can prove that you really don't need it...
>>24430990I like this, because it places emphasis AWAY from having Stronk be the end-all be-all stat for soldier-type classes. Shooty would be best for Gunners, a rounded combination of all stats would work well with Troopers, Smarts and Speedy would probably be good on Engineers, Beefy and Speedy would be great for Supports, and I think Greasy and Speedy could be good for Wildcards.
>>24431369>Greasy on a WildcardI don't think so.
>>24431517Never trust "Wildcards" to do the talking in any situation, ever. I learned that the hard way in my last Shadowrun session.

>>24430990I like it.Engineer that's a complete turret specialist. I could imagine him even having a machine gun as a weapons that he can mount on a tripod and supplement his turrets.
>>24434538I was thinking, honestly, that class should be independent of any bearing on- or suggestion for- Action Skill. We want players to have some creative flair, not just emulate the BL protagonists.
>>24434810But that doesn't mean players couldn't make their characters like the Borderlands protagonist if they want to.The player should be able to make their character how that want, and not be barred from options because the Borderlands video games protagonists already had a class like this
>>24434810>>24434844We should make a system that allows for BL protag emulation, but doesn't require it.
>>24434844Oh of course. I was just trying to make sure we didn't bind Action Skill to Class in any way.Because Engineer that summons a flying robotic fuck-truck is very cool, and so is an engineer who digistructs an Aliens-esque powered suit to knuckle rape some bandits.
>>24434538Would we have actual machine guns, like huge magazine, belt fed, high rate of fire ect. Have a distinction from the other assault rifles?
>>24434986It would make sense, then have some skills relating directly to machine guns.I'd imagine Dahl would make either some really nice Light MGs or some bitchin Heavy MGs like a Browning M2, Dahl being the "realistic military" company.Jakobs could make like large Automatic rifles, or hand crank Gatling gunsTorgue would have huge, over the top Autocannon type machine guns.Tediore could have cheap SAW type guns, also with that magazine capacity they would make hella cool grenadesVladof could have Kalashnikov looking machine guns like an AKM or just go with a straight up Maxim machine gun.
>>24434986Nope. This is Borderlands. I say we stick with LMG's as AR's, true to the vidya. A rifleman wielding an M249 painted fire-engine red with a goddamned bayonet on it is the bare minimum in this world. Same reason some Vladof pistols are actually small miniguns.
>>24435067We should have Marksman Carbines be a weapon too if we do that, a semi-auto step between Assault Rifle and Sniper Rifle.Probably be made by Dahl, Jakobs, Hyperion, and Maliwan.
>>24435101On the other hand, we could add HMG's akin to what >>24435067 was saying. Like big mf'ing gatling guns carried the way Goliath Gunners do in BL2
>>24435101True, but it would be cool to have some superheavy MGs that could get relevant abilities and have stuff like tripod you could set up. But it would make sense to keep them ARs
>>24435113I'd love seeing some Zerker class running around carrying a huge handcranked brass Jakobs Gatling Gun.
>>24435101BL had heavy machine guns.
>>24435067>>24435112With both of these we now have Tediore and Hyperion equivalents to ARs, I like.
>>24435135I would like to see him somehow dualwielding them
>>24435158Maybe a Zerker could wield an MG while moving when gunzerking, then other classes would remain stationary.
>>24435158>somehowMidget riding piggyback, doing the cranking.
If we add fuckhuge machine guns and sharpshooter carbines we should also add other things, like grenade launchers, weaker than rocket launchers, but higher clip sizes and fire rates, also anmo regen would apply to them, unlike rocket launchers. And element throwers, weapons that deal pure elemental damage, Flamethrowers, Shock-it Launchers, Slag Blasters, Acid Cannons.
>>24435230Slag blasters would be big, mean, evil-looking dark purple hadouken cannons.Maliwan as fuck.Btw, just gonna put this random idea out there because it's too relevant not to:Crazy-as-fuck demo midget wearing a combination EOD-suit/wing-suit whose action skill is basically him clambering up the back of an enemy, slapping a satchel charge on its back, then blasting himself skyhigh and gliding back down to the ground. (possibly whilst raining grenades.)
>>24435269>Slag blasters would be big, mean, evil-looking dark purple hadouken cannons.>Maliwan as fuck.Pretty sure Maliwan would make straight up amazing element throwers. Of all varieties
>>24435269>Crazy-as-fuck demo midget wearing a combination EOD-suit/wing-suitGod that sounds amazing. Demo-midget, gets skills specializing in rocket and grenade launchers, thrown grenades and general weapons buffs so Torgue weapons would be great in his hands.
>>24435269>Maliwan as fuckmah nigga
So out of huge fucking MGs, sharpshooter carbines, grenade launchers, Flamethrower, Shock-it Launchers, Slag Blasters and Acid Cannons what do you guys think should be added?I like all of them, except the carbines should just be assault rifle variants, not a new weapon class entirely
>>24435538A gun that shoots suicide midgets.
>>24435538Well, if we're making it so that you can't get different grips/barrels/accessories/whathaveyou on non-purple weapons without horribly butchering them or having to pay a metric fuckton of dollar, I say we have them be a separate weapon class. In BL2 you could get an AR that was essentially a marksman's rifle just by having the Jakobs barrel and +Damage accessory, and one that was essentially a heavy machinegun just by having a Vladof barrel, Bandit grip, and +Magazine Size or +Fire Rate accesory, but it sounds like we're going for manufacturer purism this time around.
>>24435385His dream is to become the Torgue Mascot. To perch himself proudly atop Mr Torgue's exceedingly muscly shoulder.
>>24435575>>24435538I always saw each of the manufacturers as already corresponding to a particular rifle archetype. Jakobs are marksman rifles, Dahl are battle rifles, Vladof are assault rifles, Torgue are pretty much Bolters, and Bandit is MAXIMIZED HURTY SHOOTY GREASY BANDITY HEAVY MACHINE GUNS WHACK FOO
>>24435604I say we bring back S&S and have them be the Machinegun archetype instead.
>>24435611S&S is just not Whack Fooey enough
>>24435575I like manufacture purism. But miniguns would have to be not just Vladof. I think MGs could be made Dahl, Tediore, Torgue, Vladof, Bandit and JakobsCarbines would be Dahl, Hyperion, Maliwan, and Jakobs.Grenade Launchers would be Torgue, Bandit, Dahl, Vladof and Jakobs would make classy as fuck single barrel grenade launchers.Maybe element throwers could be Maliwan exclusive?

>>24435788>Implying you don't need maximum Greasy to operate Maliwan style
I agree S&S should come back, but not as exclusively MG archetype. Ordinarily, they'd have no solid purpose, as Bandit fills that role in BL2, but I feel that having "Bandit" as a manufacturer legit is just not gonna work in our game, since we want to attach the mystique of crazy gunsmithing to Banditry. So here's the alternative:>Taken from an article in Pandoran Times magazine...Notorious bullet-hose manufacturer S&S has fallen on some hard economic times, what with Atlas and then Hyperion waving their 'clout' around on Pandora, so they haven't really been as big a name lately, but are now Post-BL2 making a comeback after having found common ground with another name in the industry based on shared principles of design. The struggling S&S corp. has purportedly struck a deal with the Pandoran Bandit Gunsmithing Union Local 187 "Looty Shooty Fresh-n'-Fruity" and have begun planning to launch a new line of small-arms coming sometime late this quarter. Non-union Bandit gunsmiths, such as last week's interviewee, Louise "Butter-side-up" Hindenburg, continue their very vocal protest of the existence of Local 187, claiming the Unionization of their trade, "-stifles its artistry and promotes heartworms in toddlers."
Do you have a disadvantage that makes you say BAD cringe worthy references/jokes totally out of place and have to roll a social related roll to not make the people hit you?
>>24435858Low greasy, I guess.

>>24436019 Think S&S and Bandit weapons should still be separate, S&S just being better quality and commercially sold, while Bandits are different, only found on enemies and given as quest rewards
>>24436019Yes. A large part of what makes your avergae Bandit gun Bandity in BL2 is just mag size. So the real insanity and creativity stays with the small-time nutjob gunsmiths and the bulk of duct-taping, dumpster-divin' saturday night specials come from the merged S&S/Bandit 187. They plan to make their jump back into the market with guns whose sole merit is the ability to constantly digistruct more rounds from one's ammo reserves into the empty space in the current magazine. So with slightly slowed, disciplined fire, one magazine will never hit bottom so long as reserve ammo is owned.
Just had a thought:Generally we should keep the crunch light and deliberately unrealistic in some spots, in keeping with the tone of Borderlands. There's plenty of more realistic games out there. Let's not have any different damage aside from Harm/Expl/Burn/Elec/Corr/Slag. So, barring Expl/Elemental, All bullets, stab wounds, blunt force trauma, lacerations, etc. are all simply Harm.Question:What are your opinions as to the approach we ought take with wounds/critical effects? My proposition is that we treat HP like Ego until it falls below a certain point. While still above this threshold of badassery>Bullet-wounds just make you seep, burns would leave you scorched and smoking like a big sexy hero, lacerations/explosions would tatter your clothes like Bruce Campbell, etc. The more you manage to "walk it off," the more of a stone-cold BA you look like. However when you reach the limit of your Ego>You start flinching. And bleeding. And Burning. Blood gets in your eyes. A bullet takes out your ankle. A rocket went off next to your head 3/4 of a second ago and one of your friends is screaming something at you but you can't tell what because you're deaf so you just keep screaming in outrage as you fire full-auto into the horde of bandits.I think it would capture the flow of Borderlands' gameplay pretty well, which shifts rapidly from rootin' tootin' bandit-shootin' high-falootin' Vladimir Putin high adventure to "fuck-fuck-fuck who's downed this time? IgothimofuckmerunningnowI'mdownedtooandtheresabadasspsycho" with an almost menstrual unpredictability.
>>24436715I believe it was decided crits would be called "Sweet Ass Hits!"Imagine being a GM, telling your player. "Would you like to roll to confirm that Sweet Ass Hit!?"
How would we handle shields?A second, quickly regenerating health stat essentially?
>>24437144I think this would be the best
Damn, its slow today.
What should we call this system?
>>24438368Vault Hunter RPG?
>>24438368BLV: Bandits, Loot, and Vaults?
>>24438368>>24438415>>24439237GGGGuns, Guns, Guns!
>>24439237 I like this. Bandits Loot and Vaults sounds like a fun gameBLV even makes a good unique acronym.Alternatively it could be WF, for Whack Foo, where the dice are loaded and the points don't matter.
>>24439368Whack Foo rolls off the tongue easier.
So as for health.I think it should scale up by a certain amount each level, based on class, with heavier classes like Zerkers always ending up with more health than someone lighter like a Slag Harpy, even before skills. Then there would be shields, a second health number on top of the main health. It could come with effects like elemental resistance, health regen, ammo absorption, ect. Based on the shield itself, plus the player's skills that effect shields. Recharge rates could be how many points recharge per round, and recharge delay being how many rounds before recharging begins.Players should always count as flesh unless they have a reason to be armored, eg. They are a robot, a class like the Demo-Midget in his EOD suit, taking a skill that armors you, using an action skill that gives you powered armor suit.Health itself would have no negative effects for being damaged, until a certain threshold is reached, where the character starts to get hurt more severely, loose morale ect.Sound good?
What about the gun types? We could haveRevolversHandcannonsMachine PistolsAssault RiflesSharpshooter CarbinesSniper RiflesMachine GunsSMGsShotgunsRocket LaunchersGrenade LaunchersElement ThrowersPlus hand grenades.Should the system also include melee weapons?
Rolled 79>>24440072yuphave we determined a system yet for this game or have we just thought of mechanics and fluff?
>>24440148What melee weapons could there be though? We have fairly boring normal stuff, fists, Axton's axe, Gaige's hammer, ect. Only a few real interesting weapons, like Zer0's digistructing blade, the Psycho's buzz axe...
>>24440221It shouldn't be too hard to make a system just for this, though personally I prefer the Warhammer 40k RP system, but I don't think it would work as well for this...
Rolled 52>>24440303the first post on the last thread was black crusade...and really it'd work well with the XX% increase in damage or accuracyvery well since that system rolls out of 100s>>24440234yes, but the "boring" normal stuff is often also important...
>>24440370Hmm, I could see it working off of Warhammer 40k, but with many many necessary modifications. Like a completely different health and armor system, and having a maximum of 69 levels.
Rolled 37>>24440544I don't see it doing much to the health system as I understand ityou have 2 health pools, one recharges after 1 or 2 rounds of not taking damage the other recharges on a per encounter basis. that and increasing the number of hitpoints I don't really see much of a change...
>>24440711Hmm, I'm thinking of how many wounds you can get in 40k RP, compared to your thousands of hit points and shield points in Borderlands. Maybe they can just have a lot of wounds
Rolled 59>>24440919exactlyso we tone down the gun damages to something manageable
>>24440959>>24440919Well, the reason that numbers get so high in BL is because of the exponential level scaling. Everything goes up about 13% per level, so maybe we could use something like 4% or 7%?
>>24441075How about we have 1% per level, but 300 levels.
>>24441092This is Whack Foo, not Maple Foo, it's gotta be SIGNIFICANT
>>24441092But 69 is a much better, more Whack Foo-y level.
So how much damage should guns do? And how many wounds would Health and Shield equate to?Does 40k RP include ways to deal with elemental damage, weaknesses and resistance
>>24441426Guns should do little damage. Not because our bullets work differently, but because our flesh is rich with ego and savoir fair.
Will I sound like a complete crackhead if suggest dnd 4e? It has temp. hp - shield. Vulnerable - elemental weakness. Powers - enchanted weapons. Just saying
>>24441459So standard enemies should then have a pitifully health pool then, for our protags to drop em like flies.
Btw I propose we call Badass Points, "Swag"This way the earlier described concept that a wealth of unspent BP would cause you to become a primary target for enemies will be referred to as:Swag OverloadIn which you are the baddest motherfucker on the battlefield and your swagger is maximum. You are "He who is MLG" and your YOLO is strong. Thus, the scrubs who hate on your roll shall be many, for they are among the saltiest. They are garbage who, ruefully, shall never be able to get on your level.
>>24441591That sounds so stupid. But completely perfect and logical from an in universe point of view.
>>24441644Thanks. That's what I was going for; too stupidly awesome/ plain old stupid to not be valid.
>>24441489I don't know that much about 4E, but you seem to have a point. Could anyone with more knowledge shine some light on the subject?
>>24442153What exactly interest you?
>>244421784E. Like I said, I know jack shit about the system. I'd just like to hear someone elaborate on the possible advantages and disadvantages of running a possible Borderlands RPG with it.Black Crusade still seems like a good option, though.
Just a quick crotchbump.
how would the vehicles be in game exactly?would it just be runners or would the bandit technical, monster, and buzzards be used too?
>>24443075I'd say we have different classes of vehicle. Maybe even those from BL1 Armoury, too, and definitely different shit for the Bandits, Lance forces, etc. We could even make boats a thing if we want Borderlands: PIRATES, which I definitely do.
>>24443132well how would lancers work exactly?, the lance died along with atlas, so no new parts to fix up the old vehicles
>>24443188Not true, digistructing is easy and cheap.
>>24443188Tell that to a Digistruct module. Or a Bandit mechanic with a little spare time and scrap metal.
>>24443132Well, the Pirate's Booty DLC has hoverboats that fire exploding harpoons and Sir Hammerlock's DLC has hovercraft things.
>>24443240BANDIT LANCE! Also known as “The Shaft”
>>24443309This is what happened to the Lance soldiers that didn't join the Crimson Raiders
So, are we even going to touch the population logistics issues, or just handwave it? I mean, there's no way this setting has enough people to support the level of murder it has, but does anybody actually give a shit?
>>24443309>>24443466Oh man, if we ever do some suggested pregen modules or something for this game, facing off against/being hired by the Bandit Lance at their headquarters fortress known as The Shaft needs to be part of it.
>>24443525I think it's hinted that the bandits are using the New-U stations, actually. The whole system's set up for war profiteering, and Hyperion doesn't care about thier customers beyond their credit.
>>24443532If we get our writers together and keep the burden from falling to one guy like the Halo RPG ended up, we could get hundreds of pages without even trying. Then we have /tg/ right here to iron out the errata and the bullshit before we bother with a release. I know that's an ambitious damned goal, but there's no way we don't have the resources to do it.
>>24443585>>24443525and the bandits are making their money by killing Hyperion personnel and looting their corpses or by working for Hyperion, or by harvesting crystals
>>24443525Of course we're gonna handwave it. This is Borderlands,we don't care where our murderstock comes from, we just need it here.
i say we have some kind of crazy ass monster/technical/buzzard hybrid thingie that has more than four PC slots to it, considering that this is a PnP game, more than four people are going to play it at one point
>>24443648In-fighting between corps, looting the people that work for a living, po-dunk operations like bandity mining, and selling their children into slavery would be my top guesses.
>>24443648And the Hyperion personnel they kill get revived at the closest New-U station, thus giving Hyperion more money.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIfu2A0ezq0
Maybe someone should start up a doc or something where we can keep track of all our important stuff we've come up with.
>>24443802I'll start writing shit down and I'll start trying to crunch some numbers for the system, too. Quick little survey: >Out of the following systems, which would be best for a Borderlands PnP? Keep in mind the system itself will be hombrew, but dice mechanics may resemble the popular choice>DnD/D20>Shadowrun>GURPS>Savage Worlds>Something Else
>>24443929>something else>black crusade?>if not that then >Shadowrun 4A
>>24443929I think the Warhammer 40K RPG systems would be the best for working off of.
>>24443979Shit, I'll have to look into that one.>>24443945That's the one I was forgetting, yeah.
>>24444031Its Black Crusade.Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade and Only War all use the same system.
>>24444059>>24444031Alright, I'm going to do a metric fuckton of math for a while, and then I'll post the results in a future thread. My goal is to see how average success rates differ between combat tests and skill tests in each of the systems I test, to measure different variables in single-die and dicepool systems, and to find a system (or combination of system elements) that allows the combat to scale upwards for a very long time, up to a goal of level 69.
>>24445022So far, it's looking like Black Crusade would only work if we decided to use the full system and just refluff everything, since it doesn't work with anything other than the number 100 and there's little room to change things like attributes and leveling without breaking something else. There are a couple things I like already, though, so they may see a transplant in their future. A shadowrun-like system might still work if we replace Karma with an experience point system with levels, which in itself gives us a lot of room to change things. D20 might get too bloaty with huge numbers, and Borderlands is the setting for huge numbers if any setting is (On the same token, it's not really possible to get huge numbers with Shadowrun. Huge dicepools, of course, are definitely a part of the system). Otherwise, D20 is modular enough so that I could use it as the core on which the rest of the system is built. I'm about to give GURPS a once-over with a calculator, too.
>>24445295>>24444059>>24444031>>24443945did anyone consider Dungeons; the Dragoning?cause I just thought it might work...no idea why though
>>24430931Or, alternatively, a beast rider class with restrictions. Normal Humans can ride Huge animals, small humans (midgets) can ride large animals.( Small < Normal < Large < Huge < FUCKHEUG )
>>24430333>>24430433Nice triple/double. Exactly 100 posts apart.I wish Grenade Sniping was an action skill now. I would love to be able to throw my grenades with so much force they explode when they hit an enemy in the face, and have it do bonus damage for accuracy or something.
>>24445428>Small < Normal < Large < Huge < FUCKHEUGThis will be the actual size names.
>>24446739I thought that was obvious.
will there be stock side quests and crazy hidden stuff as well? or will that be up to the players?
>>24447167There will be anything the players and GM come up with, we're just making a system here.

Is there going to be a mechanic for dropping buildings on enemies?
>>24448776I remember that /co/ thread.
>>24448776If you can take down the building, it just depends on which part of it you took out first.
>>24448888>Using the Vladof Mongol like an explosive chainsaw to chunk out wall sections of buildings and collapse them on enemies

>>24449068Such is life in the wonderful world of Whack Foo.
>>24429835>>>24429752>flavor of rageI don't know why, but this makes me laugh.
>>24449290>>24449268Just a prime example of Bandits putting their Whack Foo to good use is all it is.
>>24449268The Vault Hunters sound like BBEGs too if you spin them right.
>>24435385It'd be like a combo melee/explosives build, sort of a by-the-skin-of-your-teeth/fatalistic luck thing. It'd have to have some sort of downside though, otherwise you're just the go to 'here plant some C4 on the bosses face' guy, which takes away the whole fatalistic edge.
>>24449564I think the c-4 blast should put him into Last Stand, and he must get a kill before he reaches the ground, or he dies and needs to come back at the nearest New-U
>>24449762I was thinking maybe something like the tradeoff is he can't have shields, but has a much more imbalanced luck roll/dodge/chance to hit/whatever. Make it so it doesn't have fuckhueg health, it turns into basically the wildcard class. It's the one of the more badass/hard to play class, but it can cause ridiculous shennanigans with a little luck. plus, depending on how the actual system shakes out it can give the GM a lot of leeway to inject 'holyfuckthisisawesome' into situations.
So, regarding the concept of "Whack Foo"What is it? Is it an attribute, an essence, a fundamental force? Is it possible to tell who has it, and who does not? Is it even possible for someone to actually "have" Whack Foo?Discuss.
>>24449944I see Whack Foo as the main overlying force that affects all things in this universe. It's an essence, in a way, but not quite as tangible as the essence of Badassitude. Whereas Badassitude is something harnessed by the individual, something that can be actively engaged and manipulated by people and things, Whack Foo is a more natural, omnipresent, untouchable, and unobservable force that affects everyone and everything at once and at random. It's something impossible to prove the existence of, but something that is more real than anything else.
>>24450072So, is it pretty much like entropy, but without any negative connotation?
>>24450072One might say that whereas Badassity is the individual pursuit for greatness, Whack Foo is the collective effort in search of a higher plane of existence.
>>24449944Whack Foo is like, skag chewsNo, Whack Foo is like- purple juice!No...Whack Foo is like a new gun. It'll be around forever, heh heh heh.
>>24450072>>24450099>>24450107sounds like The Force to me...
>>24450107>>24450072We're getting pretty fuckin' deep here, guys.
>>24450127Those who try to harness Whack Foo for personal gain will find nothing, so in that sense it is nothing like the force. One must be carried by Whack Foo and in doing so, carry Whack Foo itself.
>>24450155yup sounds like the jedi, no profit, just badass.except that jedi are always good and a badass of the whack foo is.....differently moral
>>24450127The Force is something that can be harnessed and used to better oneself, diminish others, or just cause change in general. Whack Foo doesn't really work like that. Whack Foo isn't something you can hold, or throw at people, or set someone's house on fire with, it's just something that's *there*, working in its mysterious ways, doing the things that it does. Almost like an unstoppable force that doesn't destroy, or an immovable object that doesn't obstruct.
>>24450221>Almost like an unstoppable force that doesn't destroy, or an immovable object that doesn't obstruct.and the true guru's all know that the immoveable and the unstoppable are but two sides to the same truthhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eKc5kgPVrA
Idea for a high-level campaign:Some crazy ass motherfucker is trying to manipulate Whack Foo to destroy the spacetime continuum or some shit Spoilers: It doesn't work., kick his shit in.

>>24450819At least 50.
>>24450805also maybe he works for Maliwan and has power armor or some stupid shit, fuck it I'm just tossing out random ideas.
>>24450881Unrelated to the Whack Foo thing, a Maliwan Elementalist Armor foe would be a pretty awesome boss fight. Have him constantly switching to different elements and give him some slag drones that will constantly try to slag you for extra damage.
>>24450805I thought we established that Whackfoo can't be manipulated.
>>24450921Exactly. That's why it doesn't work out very well for that guy.
Thread's getting pretty close to autosage. Should we get this archived?

>>24455075On my phone,, otherwise I'd do it.
DnD4e would be perfect (at least to a certain point) for this. It already has elemental powers plus all kinds of status effects. Temporary hit points would work for shields. Change stats (if you need all that shit like Gayness instead of Charisma) and do some weapons to use with powers. And there are shitloads of powers.
>>24456263Hmm, what do others think about this?I'm a bit biased towards 40k RP, and don't have any experience with 4e
>>24456386I only have experience with Dark Heresy, in 40k systems. You could probably blend it together, if need be. Only downside in 4e would be grid based combat (kind of sucks dicks bigtime if you don't use it). 4e is like Final Fantasy Tactics and every other T/Srpg
>>24456422Plus, there is something like a licensed product by whothefuckcares company, they did 4e with futuristic twist. Sample weapons from that
>>24456464You can probably use the whole system.
>>24456422Of course, in my opinion all games need grid combat or they suck.
>>24449068That always bothered me, so in my headcanon they are much tougher and the fall damages them. I also headcanon them being Ultimate Vault Hunter difficult when they are NOT satellite dropped.
>>24456902>>24449068that image fails to have the words "well placed" in it, cause they can take quite a lot of shots if you can't hit that damned eye of theirs.

>>24457703I think we should archive this thread, then make a third thread for the discussion of Whack Foo, start with a quick summary of what was in this thread and the first one. Then we get to more crunch, and also discuss what we learn from your Roll20.We're getting close to Auto-sage anyway

>>24448602You're now aware a cut scene from the game involved a stop at Tiny Tina's to let her know the big spoiler, at which point she calmly asks you to leave and shuts the door behind you. At which point you hear her, from the other side of the shutter, come apart in a completely devastating mental breakdown, totally losing all her lolrandom and becoming the 13 year old who watched her parents get experimented on to death.I'm not even kidding. She was supposed to be the most heartbreak moment in the game; the "shit is totally real, I now have a personal vested interest in destroying Hyperion/Jack" twist of the knife after everything that actually did happen. I want to slap whoever decided to remove it.And then adopt her. ;__;
Thread archived. Also, has anyone here considered using West End Games d6? The Force Point mechanic would work awesomely as a BADASS POINTS system - instead of getting it back for doing "good", you get it back for doing BADASS SHIT with it, and an additional point for doing dramatically appropriate BADASS SHIT, preferably with a one-liner. Like blowing up the Boombringer with a single grenade and NOT looking at it, or jumping off of the Buzzard's nest and surviving the fall after setting a shitload of explosive charges. Or punching through the chest of Handsome Jack. Whatever. Jack has like 15 Badass points, mostly acquired via Greesy murdering ("Do you know the difference between choking and strangulation?").You of course loose the Badass point if you're a complete pussy and use it on things like Greesy negotiations for more Hyperion bucks, but hey. Combine that with the "Biggest swag, biggest target" mechanic and I think we may have a winner.
