>>24306058OH YEAH! SHADOW QUEST TIME!Time to try and not die!
Events Summary:You earned Sir Flint's trust in your defense of the town, and together, found the source of the magic plague - the rampant spell of a long-sealed lich. The lich explained that the chaos was unintentional, a last-ditch effort remaining from an ancient war, and you managed to prevent conflict between him and Sir Flint.Meanwhile, Abigail was imprisoned, held responsible by Fredrick, the town mayor, for the recent plague - as well as the death of his brother, John.Flint tried to persuade the townspeople to free her, but ultimately failed, in large part due to the strange creature latched onto his soul impeding his efforts. However, you managed to free Abigail while Flint provided a distraction and met up with Adavan at the edge of the wood. But suddenly, horns sounded in the distance - an attacking force from Kan-Abar began to charge the town. You infiltrated their ranks to slow their progress while the townspeople escaped, and managed to kill three of their mages - though you barely survived the battle.
Ability Tree(I know this is messy, but please bear with it until I get a tgchan account for organizational purposes)GREEN abilities have been unlocked and learned.BLUE abilties are unlocked, but are not yet purchased.RED abilities are revealed, but locked due to prerequisites.UNDERLINED abilities are active-use, as opposed to passive.Unlocked Ability Descriptions Located in the following Pastebin link:http://pastebin.com/haLZyQvH
Time to CONSUME the dying and those soldiers that are alone and confused!
>mfw I finally spot one of these threads at the beginning

Notable CharactersAbigail - a young girl with powerful latent Spirit magic. You saved her from a zombie attack and have grown rather protective of her. (pictured)Sir Donovan Flint - The fourth son of Timerius Flint, the Lord of Dobshire. He is strongly aligned with the light element. Competent and worldy, he's a fierce ally and skilled combatant - when he isn't tripping over himself.Joey - a young boy that accompanied you and Flint to the Old Forest KeepFredrick - Pastor John's brother, and the mayor of Jacob's Field. He believes Abigail is responsible for the Spirit Plague.Adavan - once a wizard, now a greatly reduced lich. He was sealed away under the Old Forest Keep during the Elementomachy. He has reigned in the spell that slipped out of his control, ending the plague.
>Last time...Your needles of darkness slam into the mage as his spell is unleashed. His arms are severed from his torso. The sun warps, destabilized. It explodes.BOOOOMYou're sent flying, part of you on fire. You land heavily on the ground a short distance away. Pieces of your shadow, shredded by the force, are lying here and there, twitching. Fire and smoke are everywhere. The mage is vaporized. You've survived three in succession. For a moment, you didn't think you'd live through the blast. You crawl forward...the desire to consume and restore your strength burns within you.
...there. A soldier, still alive. His leg is seared nearly to the bone in one spot. A knife in his hand, he struggles out of the flames. You roil toward the wounded soldier. He's barely making progress across the ground, scraping himself away from heat on instinct to survive more than anything else. You fall on top of him and hook yourself into his soul. His struggle ceases quickly.>You gain 1 HP>You gain 1 EXPHP: 4/21Mana: 0/4EXP: 2Humanity: 11Temerity: 6Feeling slightly better, you lope your way out of the smoke. There's chaos within the enemy ranks. The backside of their force is a flaming crater. However, they're still pushing into the buildings. Mages or not, the battle continues. But at least that's over and done with. You see flames spread across the roof of another building. You find yourself hoping it's mundane, rather than magical fire. You can see the twinkle of lights on the river - the boats are moving swiftly. But there's still more to go.What do you do?>stealthily return to town and meet up with Flint. He's sure to need your help.>stay on the outskirts of the town. Focus on picking off lone soldiers to build up your strength.>flee the battle and try to meet up with Adavan and Abigail>something else>also, sorry I'm late! Let the CONSUMption begin.
>>24306234Scavenge the dying ones. We need our HP up to the double digits at least.
>>24306058Ahhh SHIIIIT. Forgot "quest" in the subject field.Sorry random tg-bros.
>>24306261>>stay on the outskirts of the town. Focus on picking off lone soldiers to build up your strength.
>>24306261>>stay on the outskirts of the town. Focus on picking off lone soldiers to build up your strength.Make them scream.
>>24306261>stay on the outskirts of the town. Focus on picking off lone soldiers to build up your strength. We're what goes bump in the night.
>>24306270time to buy parasite?
>>24306340will improve consume...
>>24306261Pick off a few men on the outskirts and then go meet up with flint. Also, we should really think about getting parasitic or regeneration when we have enough points for that.
>>24306261>stay on the outskirts of the town. Focus on picking off lone soldiers to build up your strength. No more rushing headlong into battle for us.
>>24306362we can afford parasitic already. start votation?
>>24306340>>24306353I was thinking we'd use that exp for Doom Aura. Use it to turn off all of the fires.
>>24306395>>24306362>>24306340>>24306353I sense a train of thought.
>>24306395I'd support getting Parasite. We consume so many people as it is, we might as well get the most out of their delicious flesh.
>>24306261Building fires are sort of out of range for Doom Aura aren't they.
>>24306395I'm up for buying it.>>24306402I would want Doom aura, but our needs at the moment are health regen or the like.
I hope we get Supersonic soon. Being super fast would be hilarious.
>>24306434I vote for parasitic. Makes sense and the shaddow obviously enjoy that
>>24306425Doom aura would snuff out the smaller grass fires around you in a good fifty-foot radius. However, large fires and flaming buildings are too hot; they'd just go back up instantly.Said another way, it controls light, but not heat. It's more for candles, torches, fireplace, etc.
>>24306452>>24306434>>24306420>>24306405K.It seems like the obvious consensus is to consume to get health up as well, so I'll lock that in.writing
>>24306452Enjoy what exactly?Would it happen to be CONSUME? hmmmm?Voting for parasitic.
Agreeing on picking off lone soldiers to build up strength, though pairs should be manageable.also support getting Parasitic at this crucial stage in our OHGODITHURTS phase...>>24306444Supersonic requires at least getting Centipede, and the unlock below it, but that one possibly needs the ability below Fist to be unlocked also... just a guess based on the arrangement of the arrows. possibly completely unfounded, but a possibility none the less...
>>24306362Seconding. Best we buy parasite and use it here.
>>24306470Phooey... I guess I throw my hat in for parasitic.
I support parasite as well. It's good to join you my brothers!
>>24306497enjoy the pleasure of consuming everything
Also with parasite and ink would we be able to enter someone's body to consume them? Think of the uses in battle!
Parasitic is gonna be great and all, but the next time there is a mage and we are alone, FLEE!
>you've purchased Parasitic>bonus healing from consumptionUnlocked: Viral>Viral - gain even greater healing from consumption, and a small boost to ailment resistance. Every physical attack has a small chance to inflict disease on your foes, which impacts their attack strength and prevents their regeneration.
>>24306590Find some dying raiders, CONSUME, then get back to Flint.
>>24306651I say we find dying raiders, CONSUME, and see where we stand after that. One thing at a time, as it were.
>>24306590Did we not buy Fist? I thought we bought Fist.In any case, CONSUME back to double digit HP.
>>24306721Nah, we decided we didn't need Fist because we were already killing our foes so easily.
>>24306721what>>24306741said. Plus the only ones to really hit us hard, the mages, weren't really wearing armor.
>>24306671I don't know, knowing that shade feeding on him, I'm a bit worried...here's an idea. fit into a mage's armor, and fake being them. stumble into a burning house, screaming about a shadow elemental in a nearby house, wrecking havoc and eating the other mages. sound out the call to retreat, and fall over screaming in pain, as if our soul was being sucked out. then disperse into shadow, letting our armor fall to the floor.>>24306741I thought we did buy it...
You roll across the grass in search of......there's no other word for it......prey.And you find it in a recently charred corpse. A trendril of energy hangs onto its body...you CONSUME it.Like a trail of breadcrumbs, you latch onto a second corpse, and consume it as well.>You've gained 4 HP. (8/10)>You've gained 0.5 EXP. (0.5 total)You've reached a farmhouse a short run from the town center. Flames lick the sky. Smoke, stained red and orange from the fires, billows up, blocking the stars. This army is clearly here to destroy, not to conquer. You suppose Jacob's Field isn't a place worth holding - and you can appreciate the idea of striking fear into an enemy. You hear a sharp gasp of breath from the other side of the farmhouse. You creep to the corner. There's a Kanian soldier propped up against the wood wall. A thick bandaged is wrapped around his leg, which another man just finished tying off. The would-be medic isn't doing well himself - he's sporting a deep cut on his forehead and a bandage around his arm."Grit your teeth, you bitch.""Easy for you to - "The man tightens the bandage on the man's thigh."SHIT!""Aww, shut up. You'll be fine once we can get a wiz to look at you.""Wizards? Did you see that explosion? I heard from a man that spoke with someone that ran - well, before he cut him down - that it some kind of shadow magic.""Bullshit. Kelvere might not like the Empire, but they're not suicidal.""Unlike us.""The difference being we've got a pair and they don't."The more injured man manages a smile despite his obvious pain. You can only see them as ripe targets for consumption...but you also notice a small group of spearmen a short distance away. If you're not quick, you'll draw attention...What do you do?>CONSUME>attack and finish them off, then consume>move on, it's too risky
>>24306815Lel, should be 8/21. Don't panic.
>>24306815Jump out and yell "Boo!" then cackle and disperse.
>>24306815Other. Let's get ourselves a prisoner...
>>24306815They're already injured. attack and finish them, then CONSUME.>>24306889or consume one and capture the other.EITHER WAY CONSUME SOMEONE.
>>24306889Jump in medic's shadow, tell him to run towards the docks, full sprint towards the knight...
>>24306815Consume the healthy one and take the other prisoner.
>>24306903Medic might be useful to kidnap. Eat wounded man there, then take him over.
>>24306918consume everyone, starting with the healthierit's feasting time
>>24306932I can support this. Medic's are more useful than most grunts.
>>24306815CONSUME the medic. If there's time, do the same to the patient, but if the spearmen come running, leave him and flee.
GUYS, Let's use ink to enter the injured one's blood stream. Consume him from the inside. We can do that right? Can we do that?
>>24306815Say something cool like, "SEEMS IVE GOT YOURS, DINNER! MUAHAHAHA!"
>>24306910I'm not sure I understand. Jumping into someone's shadow does not let you control them in any way, shape, or form.>>24306916>>24306889Eh? You're on the outskirts of a pitched battle. What are you going to do with a prisoner?
>>24306943>Medic's are more useful than most grunts. Not to us. I say we kill him since he's the more able-bodied of the two, and kidnap the wounded man since he won't be able to resist.
>>24306943We are stronger then most other things, so we can probably physically, perhaps mentally too, take him in. Consume the soldier.>>24306958Not sure if we can do that...
>>24306958Surely we wouldn't fit inside the circulatory system of a dude. I mean, we're man-sized ourselves. And we've got easier ways of killing someone anyway.
>>24306958A high roll will make this happen in as much glory as I can describe it. Because it's sort of...unnecessary.But rule of cool.
>>24306977I'm certain we could force our way into his body. Not saying it's gonna be pleasant for the poor bastard, but we could fit.
>>24306943we are fucking HUNGRY. not the time to think in ..politcs!?
>>24307014So eat the injured one and try to control the other? Sure why not.
At this point we really need the HP right now. Can we skip the ink trick this time?
>>24307014He'll pop like a balloon.
>>24306972Have him run towards our friend Flint, have him give up enemy information like where they are camped out, what their main reason for coming to Jacob's Field is, how many mage's they brought with them...Plus maybe we can make them our friend!(not likely...)
>>24307045Okay you are right, now is not the best time to try this.
Rolled 79>>24307053Rule of cool. Relax. We don't have intestines and all that other delicious empty space that humans do.
>>24307045>>24307070Maybe not, but when will we have a better chance?Plus it would scare the fuck out of the pike men.
>>24307070>>24307045But they're already injured. Now would be the safest time to try.
Rolled 96>>24306910Delusion is not suggestio-oh wait wrong quest.
>>24307095This! Terrify them to their very core!Imagine watching your friend burst into a meat spray. That fucks with well trained modern day soldiers. So hard.
>>24307097>>24307095I'm changing my mind just because I like the Idea of blowing bubbles with his blood like chewing gum.
>>24307058>Plus maybe we can make them our friend!>my face--------------------------Alright, I've heard enough.Roll 1d100 to attack the healthy man to incapacitate/kill him, then to consume them both.In as bloody and vicious a manner as possible.>modifers:-surprise attack-in stealth-enemy injuredYou can't possibly screw this one up...
>>24307118Then we can get medic in a more suggestible nature...
Rolled 32>>24307147Come on!
Rolled 6>>24307166Shit son.
>>24307114...I gotta stop rolling like this...
Rolled 55>>24307147Good eats!
>>24307166>>24307171>>24307188>>24307195We fucked with the wrong medic.

>>24307210STOP ROLLING. WE'VE WON. IT'S OVER. EVERYONE GO HOME.
>>24307210I've never seemed to suffer from /tg/dice. Really never have. But I don't roll often.
>>24307210>so glad I get to write this
>>24307262at first there was medic...then there was confetti...then there was Noms...>and that was the first time I died...
>>24307262As my first time being here, I couldn't be happier that my suggestion is working. Without a hitch.
You slowly creep to the side......the babble of the spearmen goes on in the background. Your attention is on the conversation in front of you."...but seriously. What if they did it?""I don't see any angels descending from the sky. Want some water?""Yeah, thanks."The medic's back is turned to you.Your shadow stabs into his spine. He lurches straight. His arms twitch wildly. Spittle forms in his mouth and he gasps and gags. And then you're on top of him, roiling over his body like so much black acid, dissolving him to the bone and and then chewing those up for good measure. The man, still propped against the wood, lets out a shriek - - which is suddenly cut off when you throw yourself over his mouth. You liquify, Inking into his nose, down his open throat. Part of you tries to sink in through his cut, slip into his veins, but you're too solid, too thick. You burst open the inside of his leg as you go. Blood and flesh fly apart as you literally tear him into pieces from the inside out, feasting as his soul naturally drifts apart from his body upon his death. In a moment, you Ink back, free of any gore or blood. It simply slides off you.The spearmen are staring at you, mouths agape. One of them runs, and then they're gone, screaming into the night in the direction of the town, shouting of demons and shadow magic. You feel quite satisfied.>You've gained 10 HP (18/21)>You've gained 2.5 EXP (3 total)>You've gained 3 TemerityHP: 18/21Mana: 0/4EXP: 3Humanity: 11Temerity: 9You feel your strength almost return in full......but surely there's still a little room for improvement. What do you do now?>hunt for more prey>get to the docks, Flint is probably pressed hard...>something else
>>24307469Now into the last man in the team! Make him our servant!
>>24307469Oh lord we're going to hell.>go to docks, find Flint
>>24307469>>get to the docks, Flint is probably pressed hard...This
>>24307469Go help Flint. We are the terror in the night. Only if you fuck with our friends of course.
>>24307469Let's bring a brand new friend along to say hi! And divulge military secrets and tactics!
>>24307469>>get to the docks, Flint is probably pressed hard...Flint needs our help, that Shadow Curse is probably fucking with him hardcore right now.
>>24307469>>something elseuse shadow sense to serach the spirit elemental
>>24307469>>get to the docks, Flint is probably pressed hard...We're patched up well enough. Let's do this.
Rolled 38>>24307469Go help flint murder some people so we can consume them as well.
what u guys think about shadow control and shadow assault?
>>24307469>get to the docks, Flint is probably pressed hardWe've had enough to eat for now.Not that I'd be opposed to a light snack if the opportunity presents itself along the way, of course.
>>24307574I'll support this, but let's leave two of them alive. One for a hostage/stoolpidgen, and one to have legends of us be told around campfires forevermore...
>>24307594If you are talking about new things to buy I would say get Shadow control as it increases our shadow power and we can't use Assault right now
bit of a meta question about the skill tree... Since there is a physical combat ability called 'Darkness Within', does that mean that there is a magic combat ability called 'Darkness Without'?>>24307594I'm thinking that Shadow Control would be nice, should let our shadow do things like 'Remove talisman from cage full of skelly' or 'drop pot on Fredrick'...But Centipede calls to me, while the rape train may have no breaks, it's nice to know that it has a soft landing... and many, many limbs to interrogate people via mass poking...
>>24307665Personally, I think we should start expanding our magic tree. A lot of it's cheap right now, and who knows what crazy powers there a e?
You're well enough - your friend could need help. And the memory of the shadow creature latched onto his soul bothers you...You sprint back into town. You can see how the battle has unfolded. Flint's leadership has done wonders - the men have formed a perimeter around the docks, blocking in the alleys between the houses with furniture, scrap wood and metal, and anything else they could find on short notice. Bottlenecked, the soldiers aren't making good progress. Though the untrained peasants are furiously defending their families, they're slowly being pushed back. The major front is on a short grassy stretch between the buildings and the docks. You can see Flint's sword flashing, a bar of light flickering in the darkness as he lops of heads. But suddenly, the light of his sword dies. The ground rumbles under your feet......thrum......Drum......DRUMM...One of the ramshackle palisades explodes outward. A construct of earth and rock thunders forward across the cobblestones - a golem! It's quickly surrounded by a wave of stalwart peasants, but the golem brushes them aside like dominoes.Your sense flares as the golem moves and shifts. It's being controlled...but from where?!What do you do?>try to defend your position; attack the golem>leave the golem to the peasants; try to find the mage>get to Flint and help him>do something elseYour senses
>>24307681I'd be down for centipedeAlso next time we're going super fast, can we try to shape into a scythe? Or a blade of some sort?
>>24307697We need to get more MP first, we only have 4 of them, and I don't think we know how to get more MP...
>>24307681>Darkness WithoutThat would have indeed been clever, but I named it something else (hehe)
>>24307716Find the mage. Let's fail to make friends with him.
>>24307716>leave the golem to the peasants; try to find the mageKill it at its source.
>>24307716Ouch, this fight is getting merciless. Gotta find the mage. Flash impression to Flint to flee any way possible. The Town is lost. The only hope is to slow the attackers so more families can escape.
>>24307756>>24307761What if it's the "nice lady"?Fuck.
>>24307718Okay, I can get behind centipede.>>24307716Get dat mage yo.
>>24307776Actually, lest wait and get detect magic as it seems to be something we really need.
>>24307773Then she clearly is not so "nice" considering she is going against our desires.
>>24307773Then why would she beat the shit out of the villigers? Those are the people who had no idea that she was down there, the raiders might have had a better idea she was down there if they are trying to take over this town.
>>24307773no, the Nice Lady is Spirit, the golom is of the Earth domain.theoretically, we could nom on some more soldiers, get an extra 1 exp, buy detect magic, hunt down some mages, destroy the golom and save Flint!though this plan is so meta and OOC, i do not advocate it.Though, IC we could hunt down the mage by asking some of the soldiers 'nicely' by showing them what happens to not-friends...
>>24307716You focus your senses and try to locate the mage......a house to the south...somewhat in-between the barricade and Flint's line. The peasants don't stand much of a chance against the golem, but they're almost certainly dead if you can't kill what's animating it."Don't attack head on!" cries a voice. You blink, then turn. Fredrick is standing at the back of the nervous farmhands. "It's slow! Stay out of its reach and give ground!"You run toward the source of magic, following your senses. The defenders quickly adopt the strategy of baiting the relatively slow golem to-and-fro rather than face it directly...that should buy you a little time.Perhaps you -won't- torture Fredrick before you consume him.You reach the house. It's just outside the town square, relatively isolated. A column of spears runs past, headed for one of the barricades - probably to back up the golem's advance. You keep in the shadows until they march by.There's a posting of five or so spearmen in front, and in back, guarding both entrances. A second-story window offers another means of entrance, if you can climb up without being seen.Your senses tell you the mage is on the first floor. But other than that, he's alone in the house...if you can get inside, you just might pull this off. What do you do?>it's too well guarded. Get back to the real fighting.>blast in the front! Terrify them out of your way!>creep up into the second-story window>something else
>>24307909Snagging a hostage to get to the mage... good idea!
>>24307909>almost die to a mage just a few minutes ago>want to go looking for another oneOh you.
>>24307927Climb up the house. Get the sneak on.
>>24307927there is only one option here...>assassin's creed...
>>24307927Secound story sneaking and then we get to sneak up and CONSUME that mage.
>>24307927stealth creep into second floor of the house for that sneak bonus
>>24307927Go climb that wall to the window. If our rolls are successful I want to hit with magic attack.
>>24307927>creep up into the second-story windowLet's give the element of surprise a try.
>>24307927>dissolve in the darkness, erase our breath
>>24307994We got no mana left...
>>24308017Analyze the target in order to predict his thoughts and movements.
>>24307994>Magic attack> 0 MPIf you can pull that off I would support that, but it seems unlikely.
>>24308019woah, wait, we should have mana from consumption...
>>24308026Take out the target before the target notices your presence.
>>24308033I don't think we get mana from just anything we consume. But I bet if we consume the mage...
>>24308053This is why we should have consumed that Mana pool back at the Lich's place.
>>24308033Nope... Maybe if we had ate the mage that we blew up, but we didn't.
>>24308033Since when were you under the impressionThat you were under the impression?----------------------Alright, Roll 1d100 for sneaking into the house.
>>24307927Stealth inside. We're a shadow, we should be decently good at that.
Rolled 7>>24308074yes, master.Igor obeys.
>>24308019Well then it should be a physical attack that's just repeatedly slamming the magic douche saying no over and over.

>>24308133Good job kid!
>>24308167I find that my rolls go better if I use allcaps. See >>24308085.
>>24308074After your last bout against a mage, you feel as though taking one head-on would be a mistake. You slip past the side of the guards. One of them turns toward you. You freeze. He picks his nose a bit, then turns his head back to the group's conversation. You slink up to the side of the house. Your strength easily pulls you up several handholds to the shuttered window. It's locked tight, but the old wood leaves a gap plenty wide enough for you to Ink through. You pass through the wood and dip through a bedroom. A warm, earthy sort of soul glows from the first floor...you creep down the edge of the stairs, pausing at the edge of the light shining from a fireplace. The mage is sitting at the kitchen table. His eyes are closed, and his features bent, as if he's deep in thought. A brown light folds and twists around his hands. As you watch, his fingers stir slightly, as if pulling the strings of a doll you can't see.You know you've found the right man.The room is well-lit...shadows are few and far between. But you're a little far for a surprise attack...and considering your last fight, you're not sure if you're willing to take risks now...What do you do?>sneak closer. Silence, then death in an instant.>attack immediately while you're sure you're still unnoticed. Courage saved you last time.>something else
>>24308273Jump and maul him to death.
>>24308144I was thinking more like that scene from Tombstone where Wyatt Erpe just loses it.
>>24308273>attack immediately while you're sure you're still unnoticed. Courage saved you last time.he most likely has guards watching from the shadows, sneaking will only give them time to strike.
>>24308273Sneak Sneak and then bon appetit
>>24308273Rush in and attack now. He's bound to sense our presence soon.
Rolled 1>>24308273>sneak close, then Ink to gag him and consume. It's hard to fight back while you're losing your soul.
>>24308273>attack immediately while you're sure you're still unnoticed. Courage saved you last time.Sever his head!
>>24308273>attack immediately.Punch his stupid mage face. We fighter now.

You simply let go of your aura.It flares around you, twisting, curling like smoke come alive. The men shy back."Spears up!" the commander shouts. "It's just smoke and mirrors! Get ready to -"His words are cut off because you've already barreled through his ranks and slammed into him.Your momentum carries you out the door and into a crowd of more men that was quickly forming up around the house - and through them. You bodily lift the commander and sprint through the streets, quickly leaving the men behind. The commander struggles in your grip - - and you -accidentally- smack his head into the wall of building you pass. He goes limp, but you can still sense life within him. You're in no-man's land between the lines. The battle falls oddly silent around you, punctuated by shouts, clashes of metal, and the crack of fires in the distance......something's coming back to you...a sense of the souls around you...<...erebus...>You slow. What was that?<erebus><erebus><Who speaks?><erebus><EREBUS! HEAR ME!><I can hear you! Where are you?!>You turn about, but there's no answer. You feel something...Spirit. It brushes against you...<...help...4 keys...find to...weak..please....>The sense falls dead. You stand there, unsure of what just happened. You feel tense and distracted. Was that...the thing under the town? It's message was too broken to understand...keys?Your mind flashes to the key you found in the keep. It held strong spirit magic...perhaps that has something to do with it?You struggle to call out to the thing, but there's no answer. He probably wouldn't do anything other than leave on the last boat."Help!"You glance back. Fredrick is pinned under a log. A Kanian solider is walking toward him with a sword and a smile...You turn back toward the line to see Flint stumble and fall. A mace pounds into his backside! But it clangs hard off his armor. Other men move to close the gap, and Flint scrambles to his feet. His face is coated in soot, and he looks exhausted. What do you do?>make an effort to save Fredrick. This commander as our prisoner is not really necessary. We really should just throw him back to give Fredrick more time. If it really comes to a choice, go back up Flint and the townspeople he is protecting.

You slam into the enemy lines, relying on your natural strength and momentum to get you through!Your attack instantly thrusts you into the midst of chaos. You shove, and get shoved back. You can't Ink while you're carrying Fredrick, and you have no choice but to take the hits. Your speed stutters. A spear gashes your right side! You lose your grip on Fredrick. He tumbles down...but you're through the line! His body hits the stone of the docks hard, but he rolls only once before stopping. The knife has been ripped from his back, leaving an ugly wound.Flint is there an in instant - and you take the opportunity to hop into his shadow. The line is in total chaos; between throwing the commander bodily and charging into it yourself, you're pretty sure no one knows exactly what the hell happened."Shit! He's bleed like crazy." Flint kneels down. "...this is bad. If I don't heal him right now, he's gone. But...that'll put me out of commission." Flint grits his teeth. "...I could cover for you. Say you're a magic spell I was saving for an emergency. But you'll have to get the us out of here. Or..." Flint swallows. "...I could -not- heal him. He defended the town...but there's a lot of lives I could save if..."Flint is torn between his greater sense of responsibility and the dying man before him. You could probably sway him either way.You find it an endearing testament to his character that he ignores his own recent history with Fredrick. What do you say? What is your response.

>>24310587The lines have parted somewhat. The Kanians are regrouping for a final shock attack. You might not hold through another one...<Heal him,> you say. <Tell them...that I'm a gift from Abigail.>Flint nods. He looks up to the villagers and bellows like you wouldn't have believed him capable. "Men! Stand firm! Because there's something you have to know!"Flint stands. The light inside him starts glowing. "Abigail wasn't a witch! I can sense it with my magic..." Some of the faces are surprised, but they're listening, caught up in hsi words after he's lead them through a life-or-death situation. "...a mage, yes, but not one to hurt her own town! Her people! She's sent us something...I can feel it!"The shadow within Flint twists tight...it drinks...but it's as if it can't drink fast enough. His light just keeps growing, brighter, making you wince and retreat into the far reaches of his shadow."Abigail stands with you, even though you rejected her! Stand firm, and hold this line! Flint withdraws to the boat, dragging a nearly-lifeless Fredrick. He lays his hands on the man, and his light flares so bright your shadows vanish, clearly exposing you for all to see. The wounds on Fredrick's back ripple and roll and seal themselves up. Color floods back into his pale features.Flint collapses, totally spent. The shadow thing rattles, then settles again. You rise up to face the Kanian lines. With Flint's light gone, your shadows return in full force. You take the top of the villagers' formation. And both the defenders and the attackers are awed by your revealed presence - no stealth, no shadow, just darkness and death. You slam into the enemy line as more men withdraw onto the boats, drawing back into a tighter and tighter circle...Roll 1d100

And when that happens, getting a boat will be nearly impossible for any of them...the last left will inevitably be a bloodbath. But you won't let that happen. You stretch yourself wider, dangerously wide, straining to hold yourself so the villagers can escape. And when the task is done, I will do everything in my power to assist your quest, whatever it may be - to find Abigail, to learn of yourself, what have you."What is your response?------------------------------------You have 5 EXP.Are we purchasing spirit sight?Ability purchasing is a free action. You can do this before the conversation continues.
>>24312306Does Shadow Control extend to non-physical shadows? Like magicy magic shadows of magicosity?
>>24312306All you had to do was ask as a friend, But I'll take the help as well if you don't mind.
>>24312331The ability Shadow Control can't effect magic, only physical objects.
>>24312306can't keep a bro down
>>24312349then spirit sight, maybe more
>>24312306Buy Spirit sight. If he is tempting to join him why don't we tempt him to join us? An adventure await and does he really want to leave a small girl alone with a lich?
>>24312336seconding this.also, confirming purchase of Spirit sight. If anything like the last keys, it will still come in handy...
>>24312306yes, hope it helps.
>>24312306Whoa, a righteous man of light making a promise of devotion to a shadow friend. For some reason I feel this is actually quite significant.
>>24312306Flint, I would be a poor friend to not see this through with you, just don't hate me when I'm dragging you on all my adventures.
>>24312306All right, I'll help... (sigh)... Wait... What if we ask the help of the L- old mentor? He might be able to help, or at least know of someone or somewhere who could?
>>24312349Good to know.>>24312306Get Spirit Sight."My friend, I will do what I can about it for now, I have no idea if this will work or if I will learn anything new, but I will try. But there is a little girl who I need to see, who needs me as much as you do.This is not goodbye, it is see you later, I will return soon enough and I will know more of myself by then, and if I can not help you now perhaps I can help you then. If it is beyond me now then I must understand myself more to combat it, and the best way for me to do that is to go to Abigail and Adavan."See if we can mess with it, alter it, grab it, understand it, change it, do anything at all with it. Try everything we can at this juncture.
>>24312306I'm quite certain mind crush would affect the creature. However that would take 10 mana, which we do not have. I say Regeneration is the most important right now. I want shouldn't have to rely on death to heal ourself.A close second are spirit sight and detect magic.
>>24312424Going to have to support this.
>>24312306See if we can get him to ask the lich for help.
>>24312349What if it leads to an ability that can?
>>24312451Yes! This so much. Our lich bro might be able to help him as well as anyone!>>24312424I also like this wording
>>24312424This.If we can't deal with it as we are we won't get any closer to being able to fix it by hanging out with him than we would hanging out with Adavan and Abigail, we might even learn it faster with those two.Once we have Super Sonic travel time becomes not a huge deal and I bet Adavan knows more about curses than anyone else we'll meet any time soon.
>>24312451HEH HEH HEH! I LIKE DIS GUY!
>You have purchased Spirit SightRevealed: Shadowmeld>Shadowmeld - Magical stealth. Costs X mana. Physical and magical stealth increases according to how much mana was spent until stealth is broken. Can be used to re-stealth mid-battle.>2 EXP remaining...writing...
>>24312424>>24312479This is a hard choice, but I'm going to join the Lich crowd. Ask Flint to join us.
>>24312515Forgot new tree.
>>24312536Just to be clear on this: The only way to regain health (in any significant amount) right now is eating things? I say we purchase regeneration next.
>>24312626Thirding this. When we get the exp.
"I do not mean to pressure you into a decision," Flint says. "Only to communicate...how I feel."You think hard......and images of Abigail run through your mind. Her laugh...her voice. A young wizard trying to grow turnips, and accidentally sizzling them to ash...You don't know much about the world. But somehow, you feel as though that simple dream is worth fighting for.You turn back to face Flint. You stop. Something's changed...
>>243126264thing. cuz concensus.
>>24312626I can support that. But really we should get around to purchasing some of these one point upgrades.
>>24312675oh snap, convince him to follow us after we fix that shit
>>24312675Oh god, ready dice men!
>>24312675Could this be what lichbro was warning us about Flint?
>>24312687We can do that afterwards. Other than regeneration and maybe iron stomach none of the upgrades need to purchased soon.
>>24312675You feel your sight shift, warp...a sight that's different than before...a Spirit Sight. You can see the parasite more clearly. Its mouth is sunk into Flint's soul, and its body winds down the length of his......and a trail extends back from its tail. Whispy, ethereal, leading off into the distance and over the horizon. A funnel for the magic it drinks. You feel a chill. This is no random creature. No odd curse. This was placed with intent. You communicate this, and your thoughts, to Flint."...I don't know what to say," he says. "Where is it leading?"<Downriver. What direction is that?>"Almost straight south."<...I feel...as though it's Spirit-related. What element is your wizard?>"Wind. Though he's quite diversified, capable of minor things in every element...well, not that he makes that public if it's one of the lesser four." Flint narrows his eyes. "I see where you're going with this. The answer is no."<Adavan is the only expert in Spirit magic I know.>"And I want nothing more to do with him."<Then you're a fool,> you say. <And I mean that as a friend.>"Some friend."<Do you know anyone else that could guide in such a matter?>"...well - "<Do you, or do you not?>Flint heaves a sigh. "...no."<Then you have no choice.>"...I wonder...where does it lead?"<I'm not sure we want to know,> you say. <only that we want to cut it and be done with it.>"...perhaps you're right." Flint nods. "Alright, Shadow. Let us go as far as Evinbrook. I would speak with Vellik, and finish this matter with...I suppose they're refugees, now."<Yes.>"Perhaps Vellik can aid us." Flint frowns. "Though I feel we won't get away without trading him back something of value. Likely, he'll want a promise of some sort from me. Sealed in ink. He's that sort of man." Flint looks back to you. "So. Are you with me that far? Then back to..." Flint's face contorts as if he's smelled something rather nasty. "...Adavan?"What is your response?!?!?
>>24312807as far as Evinbrook, then we set off once Flint is finished
>>24312807Sounds good, brother at arms.
>>24312807We should try to get to Abby as soon as possible. This new development gives us more reason why we should leave ASAP to find Adavan and bring Flint with us.
>>24312807Thats as far as we'll go with him. I agree on his plan.
>>24312807I can accept this as a compromise...and didn't our lich friend say something about the south being filled with those "Light" people?
>>24312807Tell him that Adavan might be feeling a bit bad about having doubted him. Just because he is a lich doesn't mean flint has to think he is a complete monster. He helped a little girl from being burned to death.Cont.
>>24312807Home can wait my friend, wouldn't the last son returning brighter than when he left be a better ending?
>>24312807Can we sit down and attempt to interact with it for a bit? we seem to have free time.
>>24312807Back to Abigail, my friend, as well as to unbinding you of the chains that hold you back. To Evinbrook.I wonder if Flint can sign the contract with ud in ink form and we slither off when it's put away.
>>24312807"Someone has literally put a parasite into your soul and is feeding your Light for some purpose, one that is unlikely to be good. Unless you happen to know some other ancient master of a maligned art, if you do please let me know, I'm not seeing any other good options.I know you don't like him, and I have my own reservations about him, but he is not truly a bad person, he protected Abigail, he believed you when he could have continued to doubt, and his goals are not counter to our own.But yes, I'll come with you to Evinbrook, it is not far."
>>24312865Then to make him feel better, Send an image of him skipping hand in hand in a meadow with Adavan, with Abigail and Shadow following behind throwing rose petals. Make it so ridiculous it warps back into hilarity!
>>24312880We should see if we can fiddle with it now, we don't do anything drastic, and we do it when he's sitting down somewhere quiet and private in case things get weird. But trying to learn more about it would be good.
>>24312907Maybe see if we can communicate with it?
>>24312904THIS MUST HAPPEN. FOR THE SAKE OF HUMOR.
also, is anyone else having an absurdly hard time with the captchas these days?
<Let it be so,> you say."Good. Now, you wanted to know about the Elementomachy..." Flint frowns for a moment, thinking of where to begin."Essentially, magic was spinning out of control," Flint says. "The more magic, the more instability. The more instability, the more magic. It grew, and grew, until sentient beings of each element formed - the Elementals."Oh...I always forget their names," Flint says. "but everyone knows the two most important. Hyperion, the Lord of Light, and Erebus, the Lord of Shadow."The elementals quickly gained followers - worshipers, even. The creatures used their great powers to bring boons to their peoples. In time...tensions formed. The elements that so naturally opposed each other kept their distance, but their people did not."Things came to a head when Erebus began calling himself the one true god. Lines were drawn in the sand...four elements on each side, allied to take down their opposites. Shadow, Spirit, Water, Earth. And Light, Lightning, Fire, and Wind."Flint sighs. "Many normal people and mages were granted powers by their patron elementals, making them what were called Van'Ath...I think that means servant in Elvish, or something. But these super-human armies clashed alongside great armies of normal men, and finally, the elementals joined battle themselves. The world was pretty much ripped apart. "Eventually, to prevent further destruction, Hyperion sacrificed himself," Flint says. "His allies joined him...and they effectively canceled out the other elements. Undid the instability, culled back the actual quantity of magic in the world itself. But they planned it well - their enemies were mostly destroyed in the annihilation, but their own armies remained.
"The battle continued for some time after that, until all were greatly reduced. But in the end, the forces of the light won." Flint slaps his knees. "700 years later, here we are. Still watched by the angels in the Ring City - that's their island fortress to the south of the the capital of the Empire of the Light. The capital itself is Heavensgate."<Where do I fall into this?> You ask."...perhaps..." Flint grows quite serious. "...a sign. Instability is returning once more...you're not Erebus...more like one of his servants. Not feral, like a normal elemental." Flint looks up. "If that's so...we're on the edge of something."<That doesn't sound good.>"...no. No, it does not."<...does all the world bow to the angels?>"...hardly," Flint says. "Kan-Abar is accepting of the elves, who wield great earth magics...this puts them at odds with the Empire. And its allies - Arland, Ulund, and Kelvere." Flint shrugs. "Kelvere has been drifting lately...but this attack will no doubt drive them back the other way. And then, the Elvish Isles themselves, far to the east. Independent is an understatement. And there's Atlantis, just west of the Empire - they're neutral to most things, keep to themselves. Now, Felnoir, that's in the center of the continent, and home to the Great Forest. They take all kinds there - and the Empire detests all non-humans. Mostly, they look the other way, but it's always a source of friction."Flint's face darkens. "...and to the north, past the great Valendrak peaks...once named Temerland, renamed Vampiria 150 years ago. Ruled by the Black Lady. A bastion of the shadow." He looks at you. "And not the good kind."<...I could sorely use that map.>Flint chuckles. "We'll get you one."con't
>>24312997Hey SM, can we possibly get an elemental octagon image? just throw something together showing the elements and their opposing element.
You ride in silence for a time. Flint's expression slowly changes as he thinks. Eventually, it settles on something grim.<You are not pleased to go to Adavan.>"Gee, how'd you guess?"You send Flint an image; an image of him skipping hand in hand in a meadow with Adavan, with Abigail and yourself following behind, throwing rose petals.Flint bursts out laughing."What?" Fredrick asks over the group. "Are you going to tell me that...that thing, has a sense of humor?"Flint has to struggle to get his words out through his smirk. "Would you believe me if I said yes?"Fredrick's face darkens. "Forgive me if I don't feel like laughing, considering we just lost a hundred lives and our entire home."Flint sobers quickly at that. "I meant no offense.""...whether you meant or not, makes no difference," Fredrick finishes. And he turns back around.----------------------------------------------End of tonight's thread.Briefly taking questions/purchasing something with 2 EXP / whateverTwitter:https://twitter.com/ShadowMaster_tgArchive:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=shadow%2Cquest

>>24313113please and thankya.
>>24313128>http://pastebin.com/haLZyQvHhave to say i'm not in favor of shade, purely for mana cost.
>>24313108Is Shadow Control actually mana-less?
>>24313128I Agree, mimic and shade!Question: How do you feel about us wanting to make a "Everyone needs to get along" faction? And thanks for running this Shadow Master.
>>24313108>>24313108>>24313108BONUS POST--------------------------------The hours pass lazily......and the riverbank starts to change. You see houses, farms more frequently. Clusters of homes dot the countryside. Soon, they've become regular, and a road joins the side of the river."Evinbrook is actually one of the most populous cities in the world," Flint comments. "It's very spread out because of the space. We should be just - " He stops. "There is is."You gaze upon Evinbrook...the home of Duke Vellik. You wonder what awaits you within the intimidating structure...

>>24313175hardly important now, but what does "focus" do? no description was provided.

>>24313108about what is our "mind speak/image" range?
I suggest we>purchase mimic>purchase snuffbetween the two we'll be able to go undetected a lot better.
>>24313185I wrote it earlier. Here's a cleaner description:>Focus - With a burst of concentration, you can significantly improve your detection of both the mundane and magical, but you also drastically increase the risk of giving yourself away...Basically, trade enhanced detection for a stealth penalty. Situational but useful.
