You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. You have decided to see the world, and possi-XXXXXX_----+++++++||||||-------10101110000101010@$)(_!$........One moment...You're a very pretty snake girl, with a very cute lover. You live in the wonderful city of Citadel, Heaven built upon Earth. You live in a nice house, with your lover, and you spend your days with her. Maybe, soon, you and she will find a nice guy and have lots of little babies with him. Plus, because you're a famous hero, you don't have to work!Life is good.Citadel is wonderful.Your journey is over.Stay.Rest...
Wow, shorter thread than usual today.
Oh boy here we go.
Fuck no! Resting is for the weak. We adventure now!
>>23809094>very pretty snake girlI'm pretty sure we got horribly mutilated last thread, get your facts straight Citadel.
Oh, HELL no! You are Ssen Patrick, and you are fucking PISSED.You were at a ball thrown in honor of winning Stone Hall back. You found out that the idiot you knew as Isen the Audacious was actually Prince Itzak Newgate, a member of the royal family. You danced, you laughed, you kissed Tricia for the first real time...and then you saw the Humor known as Peace, hiding in the shadows, aiming a crossbow at Isen. You lunged and pushed the guy out of the way, taking the bolt yourself. The bolt was poisoned and, while a normal person would be dead, you woke up with shock white hair, raised black veins on your arms and shoulders, and your smooth skin is now tough and dry. Also it's three months later...and it seems that Citadel, the living City State from Hell, had kidnapped your friends Mage, Peri/Mari, and Lea.There's study that says that Lamias and Nagas are closer in species to dragons, than to snakes. Right now, you agree with that. Because you feel like a dragon who's just been stolen from, and you are going to make this place BURN.
>>23809094[x]Weren't we on a quest or something?
>>23809094oh shit nigger, what is wrong with your pic ?
>>23809199 Okay, I have a question for you guys. I have two adventure paths for today, but they hinge on a question I want to leave to you. If you want to say that it lies in a die roll, that's fine too.Do you think, that if given a chance to do so, the taken Dawnchasers can fight off Citadel's influence by themselves?
>>23809199Citadel done fucked up.
>>23809295Yes. A thousand times yes. Fuck you and your bullshit, Citadel.
>>23809295This is not me not knowing how to do spoilers, but yes I believe they could as they were free from it before, they'll remember.
>>23809295with us awake, mostly yes, but it wouldnt hurt to give them a hand.Citadel is so fucked.
>>23809295If they can't, they're no good to us in our quest, as we can't trust them not to turn on us when we go to war with Citadel. So either yes they can, or we need new allies.
>>23809295No, as much as it pains me to say so. Not for lack of trust in their strength of soul, but for knowing the dread span of Citadel's grasp. We've seen good men already broken by its saccharine weight and we will not allow the same fate to befall those we call friend.
>>23809333The world breaks all people; afterward, some are strong in the broken places. Our friends are -not- beyond help simply because they need it.
The rules have changed.I am alive, angry and directed.I'm not pretending that everything the Citadel's doing is all about us. That'd be insane. The Ball was just killing a few birds with one stone, not just - perhaps not even even - a shot at us.But it was a clear message. It's prepared to murder innocents. It's prepared to kill dissenting voices. It's prepared to do anything to get what it wants.Well, newsflash:So am I.
>>23809295You begin your ruthless purge of this loathesome place by pushing yourself up...and falling in a heap."Easy," Tricia says. "Easy." She hands you a potion. "Drink this. Your muscles are all atrophied. Mr. Trapp, remember him? He gave me this formula to keep you from getting too weak. But now that you're awake Ambrose said that I can move you up to this new potion." Oh GOD...it takes like rancid meat, fly droppings, and and maggots...and given that Tricia, the insect druid, made it...still you drink the damnable thing. "You should be up and ready for tomorrow. We'll go get everyone, and then find Isen and Tara, and get back into the speed of things. Why are you so worked up?"No sense hiding it now. Yes, things can always get much much worse...but screw it. This city isn't calling the fucking shots any more. Wanna just leave it to the die?
>>23809416Wrong. We must not give hand it a label to apply to us. We must not be a villain it can understand, nor a hero it expects. We will do the right thing, the hard way, and smile when it hurts because we know some things simply must be done. Citadel will beg to know what we are and why we act thusly. It will ask this question with its very last breath as it starves.
>>23809439It assumes, like most things, that contentment will do the trick.Contentment will keep everyone in place.Contentment will keep everyone distracted from what's really going on.Let it know we can beat it up, let it know we could kill it,let it know we can destroy it, let the fear shrivel it up.Fuck that. I'm not afraid of it.It's afraid of me.It's afraid of the truth.
>>23809439I say we go help our friends. And we do so whilst accepting all the dreadful things that befall us with a smile.
>>23809439This might just be me, but I'm a bit leery of letting anything be reliant on the roll of a dice. Perhaps it can contribute significantly depending on how high the roller goes, but perhaps there should be other options available to free them if the dice fails. But I'd say that finding a way to externally break a godlike entity's grasp on someone won't be an easy task.
>>23809439>This city isn't calling the fucking shots any more.
>>23809439Wait so are we rolling for whether they can be freed from Citadel, or whether they can free themselves, or what?
>inb4 we end up pic related
>>23809439>>23809527Spider please go. Seriously.
>>23809571I don't know, kinda like him myself. He should stay.
>>23809545I feel the only way we can succeed is by confounding Citadel into inaction. Give positive feedback to negative stimulus. We must be grateful for the strength we find in weathering the trials it sends our way.Citadel's fantasy will fall apart bit by bit when its own system suddenly ceases to obey his expectations.
>>23809568We are the dead.
>>23809571agreed.>>23809439random for one or 2 that have trouble throwing off the influence, because its been so long, but not all of our friends.
>>23809439>Leaving the fate of our friends up to chance. Yeah no. Sorry, resignation that we are reliant solely on the die for them to break free is a complacency worthy of the citadel.
>>23809560 Okay, let me change it. You wanna blow up a whole asylum, freeing free souls, and throw down the gauntlet, or do you want to try and keep Citadel unaware of how badly you want to see it burn, quietly rescue everyone, escape, and maybe fight Odette?
>>23809674We're a Lamia, not a Naga.
>>23809674quietly rescue and deal with Odette for my vote.
>>23809674I think we're gonna do it quietly. We aren't quite ready for war yet.
>>23809674Quietly. Tomorrow, as soon as we can walk, we will say that we are going out to explore, and then we will visit every tavern until we find Lea, visit every bookstore until we find Mira, ...
>>23809674Keep it quiet for now. But by the look of your post we're about to tell Tricia about Citadel, if we do that, won't Citadel know we're on to it, you said it pays more attention to humans feelings towards it than to ours?
>>23809674Quiet rescue, gather allies, gather more allies, then shoot Citadel in the face while its in the midst of listening to its latest iteration of the Lightbringer fanfiction.Burning the entire city the ground seems to be foolhardy right now. And it's not really being fair to those other people who are just living their lives as best they can while being watched over by some prepubescent and divine version of the Combine Overwatch.
>>23809674I don't even think it should burn. Let's start small with rescuing our friends and slowly purify the city in the long run.Citadel's protestations of change will end with a whimper.
>>23809674WHAT DO YOU MEAN BURN THE CITADELWE'RE GOING TO CONVERT ALL OF THAT SHIT TO THE TRUE LIGHTALL OF IT
I've got a plan of action, but it is going to take a bit to write up. Lemme see here.
>>23809674I don't know about any of that. I just want to VISIT FRIENDS.and then VISIT ISEN.and then COLLECT PALADINHOOD.and then GO SAVE SOMETHING.
>>23809783I like it. That is what the paladins of old would have done.Remember, the people rose up and overthrew the dragon.
>>23809783This guy.My good fellow, you are grossly incandescent.
>>23809798No paladin-hood. It is far too perilous to cross sword with bitchy paladin again. We do not need to be ordained by the Occuli when the Light chose us.
>>23809802>>23809811You flatter me.But no, for real, convert ALL that shit. Hell, what happens if we convince the DRAGON of the light? god knows.
I think we should tell Tricia this: Remember how the bookstore keeper kept on coughing? And he stopped completely while holding my amulet? Theres something not right in Citadel. I think our friends being happy has something to do with it.
>>23809715Okay, Citadel has broken stronger souls before, and that was without even trying. Three months of solid pressure? Yeah, they need some help to find their way back.A Guiding Light, as it were.>>23809749If you really don't want to. That's fine. You can keep quiet about it.Still you're gonna be trapped in bed as the potion works its stuff.Anything you want to ask Tricia about?
>>23809824>no paladin-hood>crossing swords with odetteNo, see, we don't have to. We saved the prince. That means FUCK odette, she can steam in a big pile of political impotence while we have high fallutin' paladin adventures.
>>23809841Alright, taking back up where we left off."What has you so worked up?" Tricia asks.
>>23809839>I think we should tell Tricia this: Remember how the bookstore keeper kept on coughing? And he stopped completely while holding my amulet? Theres something not right in Citadel. I think our friends being happy has something to do with it.repeating this
>>23809841I think we should tell Tricia, since it's going to be hard to get the support of our friends unless they know. After all, if we don't tell them, it's effectively just us barging in and ruining their happy new lives because we feel like it, in their perception.
>>23809859But as a paladin, they can order us where to go. We don't need more of that now. Unless the clear order has its own power structure (and we are the lord of that).
>>23809863Tell her about Citadel, it's a risk, but we can't fight it if we're the only one who knows.
>>23809841>anything you want to ask tricia aboutFUCKING EVERYTHING.What happened after I got shot? What medicines did you use? What are our friends up to?How did you get me here? How did you afford wherever "here" is?What are the occuli doing about the assassin? What is the news of hte land?Do people KNOW of our actions, or was it secret like isen's identity?
I can't wait for it...
>>23809873Innocent enough. We should decide, though - Whether we should tell our companions. If we do, we may never return to Citadel in peace. The next time we are back will be in front of the army of nations.
>>23809884I think we're going for being in the clear order, yes.And I was under the impression that it did have its' own power structure.
>>23809863"Remember when I had that long talk with Granny?....She told me some things. About the Lightbringers. About Citadel. About why the story is always the same. But we need to get our friends out of the city before I can tell you more."
>>23809789Alright, basically what we are going to do is regroup with all of our allies, get the token paladinship given Isen is still willing to patron us. Once we do that, we bail the fuck out of here. Possibly trying to contact granny about counteracting the worst effects of that venom. Then we keep out of the city as much as possible, couriers to Isen and promoting the inventor and the others that the citadel is shitting over. Get them in touch with people that they can expand their craft with, OUTSIDE the influence of the cities walls even if they are still in it. Citadel will see it simply as growth. Which it likes. We build up influence with them while recuperating. Possibly looking into how the citadel came to power through dragons or whatever. It has its hackles up now. We disappear, let it get complacent. Let it build its walls up. Happily viewing us as no threat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8cELTdtw6U Innocent actions harboring an intent to watch it all topple. Simple as that. But I am likely rambling.
>>23809903>implying Isen won't become Spider
It seems like the city got her eyes on our friends. I hope that we have nothing else to do in this city other than paladin-hood, rescue friends, and rescue Isen/Tara/princess. Because we are probably not coming back.
>>23809841this right here >>23809909
>>23809841>"Anything you want to ask Tricia about?""Are you okay?"
>>23809927I am for most of this. we GET FRIENDS. we GET PALADIN. we GET THE FUCK OUT.We may or may not bring inventors and such with us if we can.
>>23809929Hmm...I could see him go pic related, I guess.
>>23809927Good plan, but we may be in danger as we leave. The city did that to the inventor already.
>>23809955before anything else, ask this. How could I be so heartless.
>>23809969Yes.Quick hug too.
>>23809969>implying poison hasn't damaged our heart
>>23809993>Implying it -could- damage our soul.
>>23809963>>23809903>>23809713>>23809527>>23809416>>23809998please stop with the image spam.
>>23810005Seconding. Let Isen be Spider. Not us.
>>23809998>>23810005yeah, as fitting as it is, it DOES burn up postspace. which we need. These threads are regularly in danger of autosage death.
>>23810002>implying it couldn't I bet a ghoul could make soul poison
You know, thinking about it... Why did Peace choose to use so powerful a poison if he was only going to kill a human? Could it be that he was targeting us from the start too?
>>23810131Take no chances
>>23810131Does Citadel really seem like a rational mind which chooses to act in moderation?
>>23810131Either he wanted Isen to be SUPER dead, or perhaps they considered using Ssen as the part of the tragedy in the Lightbringer story. There's still two other Lightbringers out there that were supposed to be fulfilling the role. Could be that they're covering their bases in case one group fails.
>>23810131>>23810140>>23810157Be glad they didn't decide to just mix ALL the poisons.
>>23809873You take a glass of water and sigh, "Remember how the bookstore keeper kept on coughing? And he stopped completely while holding my amulet? How that inventor guy had all that weird luck, or the tailor had no customers despite being so good?" You shake your head. "Theres something not right in Citadel. I think our friends being 'happy' has something to do with it."Tricia rubs her arms. "I think you may be right...this place scares me a little.""So, what the hell happened while I was out? I mean, tell me everything.""Okay...you got hit. And then I got to you while the Occuli were getting the Newgates out of there. Our guys kept Tara from getting killed as she wanted to see if Isen was okay. I saw that it was Glass Scorpion poison, the black veins are the first sign. Normally, a human would be dead in seconds, but your body was fighting it, so it slowed it down enough for me to grab a dinner knife, cut open the wound and..." She blushes. "Well, I sucked out a lot of the poison and spat it out.""Isn't that fatal?" You asked. Not just because of the poison, but your own blood can't be healthy for humans either...Tricia shrugs. "I didn't think of that. I just...I had to try. Anyway, I stalled the spread of the poison for a Cups Healer to arrive and he stabilized you. Then, I've been here. The Cups people never know what they're doing, so I asked Mr. Trapp if he had any books, he used to be a field medic for the army when he was young, back in the expansion days. So he had plenty of good advice, books too.""And you've been here at my side, for the whole three months?" You ask. "Where do you sleep?" This room isn't all that big. "Where are we anyway?""Citadel Castle, private quarters." Tricia says, and mostly..." She wiggles a bit in the large chair she's sitting in. "This is very comfy, really."
>>23810131we covered this last thread, they have access, and if you are assassinating a freaking prince, you dont take chances using milder poisons.nothing says serious like 100% lethality vs humans.
>>23810171She deserves a hug for staying by our side for all three months, and for risking her life again and again for us.
>>23810171Pull her to the bed, silly Tricia."Are you okay?"
>>23810171"Get over here and give me a hug."
>>23810171"Are you okay?" You ask.She nods. "I am, now." She squeezes your hand. "I'm not letting you cheat me out of anything Snake. So, you don't get to die right after you take my heart."You give her a look. She groans. "Yeah, yeah. I know...but it's all I could come up with.""You had three months.""Shut up!" She swats you. "Want me to keep going?"You motion for her to proceed. "Alright, as for what happened outside after the ball...well..." She sighs. "Bad news first. After a week, Paladin Odette 'caught' the assassin. Apparently it was an Elf from the Fey Court, she 'found' his 'lair' with documents, blueprints, schematics for how to get into the place...the whole thing." Tricia shook her head. "We knew she was making it all up, but it looked amazingly convincing, and the rest of Citadel bought it.""The people, and the crown, still think you're a hero though," She says shrugging. "You can add 'Hero of Citadel' to your titles."
>>23810210Yes. Hugs. Also, if the paladin escapist thing is still going; I suggest only some paladins free themselves. Namely, the true 'pure of heart' ones. If it isn't going, then ignore this.
>>23810171Where's our amulet? Make sure that shits being worn at all times.
>>23810228Is Odette in league with the Dramaticaes more directly? We have to keep that possibility in mind.Remember what she said about your other potential sponsor when we were listening to her from the attic?
>>23810228smirk"Its going to take an hour or longer to say all our titles soon isnt it?
>>23810249This."Stopping Odette's power-grabbing can wait." Give the medallion a kiss for good luck, polish it gingerly and think of father, "We just need to get the others and get out of the city for a while, to get some fresh air."
>>23810228At first, I want to reject that title, but... imagine, fighting the Citadel and freeing the people from its grasp under such an ironic nickname. Poetic justice!
>>23810228>Apparently it was an Elf from the Fey CourtThey didn't string up that thief that was trying to get back Lea's Nightmare did they?Speaking of which in a city like this how is that thing getting on?>>23810293thirded
>>23810228"We, of course knew better." Tricia said. "But...well...it looked like all of our leads and clues were literally being erased before our eyes...at last Mage went into a long rant about that. He swore that he had found something that disproved Odette, but that it had been 'Eaten by a iron door knocker' we just thought he was making excuses, or tired...but now..." She shakes her head. "So we kept looking, well...they kept looking. I stayed with you."You hug her for that. She returns it, and it's a moment before you to let go se she can continue her story. "Lea started going to Cathedral to pray for you. Then one day they ask her to give a sermon, and now she's there a lot. She always includes us in her daily prayer. Mage has buried himself into the mage hall, insisting that he can figure this thing out. I visit him, and he's got piles and piles of books around him...and vegetables. He keeps mumbling about how he's getting closer. Peri/Mari are now Tara's managers at the arena here. They say we need the gold Tara's bringing in...and Tara's fighting again. Also wearing that stupid thing we saw her first in at Purple Sands. Peri/Mari only seem to be focused on getting money for our 'next trip' but I don't think they have any idea as to how much we even need." She sighs. "Oh and Robin Goodfellow tried to steal your horse again. Twice. The Nightmare kicked his ass the first time, and I bought a gizmo from Barney that worked like a charm on him the second time."
>>23810333oh, we ARE the savior of citadel. This place is citadel. The one we are fighting, though we've been calling it "citadel" is actually the dragon of darkness.
>>23810347>Lea's sermons.Citadel knows how to attract people. I still think she will be instrumental in persuading others. She is the wise older guide figure in our party after all.
>>23810347Time to go find Mage first in my opinion, see if he really has made any progress. Do you guys think getting people to hold our medallion whilst we try to convince them to leave with us will help relive some of citadels control?
>>23810388First we need to sit in on one of her sermons, before she knows we're recovered. I want to see what Citadel has her preaching.
>>23810395Our medal and their old object. Remind Lea of the Light's words, the mage of the start of our journey... ect.
>>23810399I say we do that when we go meet her. Listen to a sermon, say hi afterwards.also watch her during the sermon to see if she recognizes us. It'll be hilarious if she does.
>>23810347When we get better(after mandatory greetingsand sex), we should ask everyone what they were doing. While they hold the medallion, of course.>>23810399This too.
>>23810364it could be the dragon in darkness, or it could be a different entity, all we know is its very powerful.we might even be able to show it the light, should we work long enough on it>>23810399this! know your enemy.
>>23810406What if she is actually railing against the evils in Citadel?
>>23810347Citadel is having a hard time keeping our friends contained but it's currently managing. All the futile pursuits our friends have thrown themselves into seem very near to their true character. We'll just tell them that the search is a dead end here, that we have more than enough money, that Lea's sermons are needed elsewhere in poorer villages that would welcome her wisdom, etc. Let's all just happily get away from here for a while.WINK WINK
>>23810431Good idea. Why don't we see how things are and decide then?
>>23810429she's probably just preaching the light.
>>23810474The *Light*, or the "light"?
>>23810483the *light* and the "light" are superficially similar, especially in a devout such as lea.We need more ways to differentiate light and citadel altered light
You guys think we might need some other armor/clothing that hides the worst of the ravages of the poison? While Ssen may not really overly care about her physical appearance, but it may give any regular passerby quite a shock. It was bad enough when Ssen was basically a snake-woman with exotic features, but looking like a significantly better version of pic related might not be a good thing. We may at least want to consider a hat.
>>23810527the real Light is capitalized, the citadel altered version is not.
>>23810491The Light represented in our medallion, which is the antithesis of the Citadel, or the light used as a sock-puppet for controlling paladins?>>23810527One's used against the Citadel for true Good, and the other is used *by* the Citadel for "kill all monsters" type twisted-fairy-tale "good".
>>23810559As I said, the light, not the Light.
"As for Isen, no one has seen the Newgates at all. The Blue Occuli have done a full lockdown, not until the army finishes the march." She sighs. "Oh, uhh...here." She hands you a piece of paper that's folded into the shape of a strange looking bird. "That's a thank you from Princess Yadda-Yadda from the Phoenix Empire...I think...she doesn't speak Citadel."Your body tingles and there's a dull ache. Tricia makes you drink more of the horrid medicine. "We're not going anywhere to save anyone, if you aren't able to so much as squirm." She hands you another vial...and it looks like there's several more to go.You groan at her. But she gives you a stern look. You sigh and comply."Stopping Odette's power-grabbing can wait." You give your Medallion a kiss for good luck. You gently polish it and think of what Father would do in this kind of scenario, or if he could ever dream of this kind of scenario. "We just need to get the others and get out of the city for a while, to get some fresh air.""Alright. We can sit in on one of Lea's sermon's tomorrow." She says. You finally finish all the doses of that putrid tasting crap. She yawns and stretches. It's later in the day than you thought it was, and the medicine is making you kind of sleepy. "Well, rescue everyone and escape this place tomorrow. Sleep well, Snake. Night." She curls up into her chair.
>>23810542We know the right person for that.
>>23810588gottdammit, get off that chair and sleep on a bed woman
Nope, shes to join us in the bed. For sleep. But we aren't letting her sleep in a chair a single moment longer.
>>23810588Is the bed big enough for Tricia to fit on as well, if so we should let her sleep next to us rather than spend another night in the chair.
>>23810588"What do you think you are doing Tricia? You are sleeping on the bed with me."
>>23810588see:>>23810604>>23810609>>23810617Also curl our tail around her protectively in bed.
>>23810649That is too adorable.
>>23810588"Oh, no. You are not sleeping in that chair tonight."Then coax/pull her into bed. and cuddle
>be here since first thread>have to miss a a bit>come back>you all making choices I don't disagree withMODERATE PRIDE: UNLOCKED
>>23810604>>23810609>>23810617>>23810619You roll your eyes and pull her leg with your tail. She starts a bit. You point at the bed. She gives you a questioning look, and you nod. She climbs into the bed next to you. She wraps her arms around you, and you curl your tail around her.Sleep is deep and easy. You only feel Tricia's heartbeat, as yours and hers slowly come into sync. There's no hint of that thing of shadows and sparks in your dream. Which makes sense, Citadel doesn't understand what this is, so it can't get in.The morning comes, and the two of you slowly unwrap from each other, stretch, and you find that you can move again. You're a little sluggish than normal, but that should go away.Your usual clothes do a mostly good job of hiding your new skin. Though you might want gloves, as your hands look like black veined messes. Also, you make sure to look for hairdye when you leave Citadel. Not that your now shock white hair looks bad...but you miss your red hair. A lot. Another thing to express your displeasure about to the Humors when you meet them."So, we going to see Lea or Mage, first?"
>>23810781"Lea first, we will sit in on her first sermon without her knowing we are there."
>>23810781Lea. To the cathedral!
>>23810781Mage it's probably going to be easier.
>>23810815Yes. Then Mage.
>>23810781"When does Lea preach? If we have time, Mage first, if not, Lea."
>>23810781I was going to say Mage, but making a beeline for one of the people citadel is having the MOST trouble controlling would be telegraphing our movements. Let's go see how Lea is doing. We'll sit in on a sermon without her knowing we're there.
>>23810781>red hair dyeHonestly, I am hoping to hold off on that a while.I'm hoping that our hair starts regaining its' color as we live healthily and aren't on the verge of death.
>>23810916Seconded. Why see shame in survival? The flesh is ephemeral; hair dye would be a silly waste of our time and resources.
>>23810781Lea first, for reasons outlined in >>23810872We must assume that our every action is being watched. Which it is, by Citadel, but also by more cunning entities.
>>23810933no, maybe hair dye eventually. but I'd like to see if it starts getting better for the first few weeks.Just, you know. See if it gets better before dying it.
>>23810916this for now, a good portion of our horrible looks could be malnutrition, we where unconscious for 3 months after all.i dont mind the hair color change, but the skin and veins we really could do with fixing.
>>23810815>>23810818>>23810850 For future reference and ease of standard rules, when I make options like that, first to get three picks goes. Lea's leading a crowd in prayer inside the Cathedral when you get there. She's also not wearing her bandages. Not that wearing a Purple Sands dress with a veil that hides her entire body, save her eyes. "..and we give thanks to the light, for giving Citadel such bounty, we give thanks to the light for making Citadel strong, and we give thanks to the light for helping all of us in Citadel rejoice in His Light within Citadel." There's a moment of silence. Then she starts again. "Now, let us move to our prayer for Citadel's fishers, farmers, and herders, all of those who need the light's blessing so they may provide Citadel for what it needs..."
>>23810986>mentions Citadel 6 times>mentions Light once
>>23810986Sigh."You speak of the light, but not His Light... Lea, what has it done to you?"
>>23810956Oh, ha I see. >>23810933 was more my reason for it than a restating of yours.ASCETICISMIMPRISONING ME,ALL THAT I SEE,ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.LOOK AT THESE RAGS.LOOK AT THESE FASTS.DAMN I FEEL HOLY AS HEEELLLLLLL
>>23810986Note to us: Let us be one voice in the crowd asking for prayers for Stone Down, for First Wood, for Purple Sand, and for Dwarf Home.
>>23811023Really don't say anything like that here. That would be waging war on Citadel openly.Just be silently disgusted and wait for her to finish.
>>23811035Oh yes lets.
>>23811035This. Wait graciously for a pause in her speech so as not to interrupt her. Then slowly stand, smiling as we say that.
>>23810986wait for her to finish her sermon before approaching her.
>>23811035>>23811048We are supposed to not be actively provoking Citadel yet. Let's hold it in for now. We'll make it pay in good time.
>>23811080then add something to the effect of, "That they may be as blessed with prosperity as Citadel is."
>>23811080We can pretend to be a traveller from one of the cities, and we are just asking for a prayer for our city. We should not try to draw attention onto ourselves when doing it.
>>23811093I like this anon.>>23811080I think it is not that strange for others to have prayer requests in a service.
>>23811097you realize we are the ONLY talking lamia around right?we cant say anything without drawing attention to ourselves.
>>23811116I like you too; you're good folk.
I prefer not drawing attention to ourselves. I mean I thought we were being subtle and making a scene in a cathedral isn't subtle.
>>23811136Why do we not draw a hood up? No one can see our tail in the crowd or in the pews.
>>23811149Exactly, people rising to the bait and picking at Citadel needlessly.
>>23811048>>23811035"May I ask for a prayer for someone?" You say in the crowd.Lea looks up and sees a person with white hair in the back of her crowd. She doesn't instantly recognize you. "Of course. Who are we praying for? One of Citadel's soldiers in particular?""I would like to pray for Stone Hall. They need help after the Ghoul attack. I have..." You smirk as you think of the old hag. "I have family there.""Why of course." Lea says without a pause. "Lets all bow our heads and give our thoughts to Citadel and..." She pauses and shakes her head. "Forgive me, give our thoughts to Stone Hall. May the Light bless them in their..." She winces and holds her head. "Mmh...what? Uhh..." She looks around. "Who were we praying for again?""Citadel." The crowd says as one.Lea takes a step back. "Right...yes...wait..." She pauses. It looks like something on her back is bothering her. She keeps trying to scratch it. "One moment...I need to..."
>>23811149How about we change it to just our home town then? Or Stone Down? Then we have a very legitimate excuse for it.
Whisper a prayer to our medallion. Light guide Lea in her time of need.
>>23811200I agree.This is oddly fitting.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCteJY1-Zkk
>>23811175Well shit, I guess subtlety's out of the question, Citadel has to have noticed that.
>>23811224There is only so much we can watch out for Citadel. We acted natural enough. We will have to do much worse in the future.
>>23811175Smile stoically and offer an HONEST prayer for citadel along with them. For it knows not what it does.
>>23811224yeah, this isn't "citadel's notice". this is citadel's autoimmune system.Citadel will only notice if there's a problem with the autoimmune system, like a particularly annoying and itchy lamia.
>>23811256I figured we were going to wait for the prayers to finish, then talk to her afterwards.
>>23811271She most likely would have continued all day.
>>23811261Yeah. Pray for the fate of that citadel. We're going to be showing it the error of its ways soon enough, and it will need those prayers to gain the wisdom to capitulate.
>>23811261I like it.
>>23811200"Light guide Lea in her time of need." You say, as you hold the medallion."Please...hold on..." Lea twists as she tries to scratch whatever it is off of her back. "I'm sorry, so sorry..." She laughs. "Please, stay...listen to me...and don't..."She pulls her burkha off and everyone sees Lea's face. A few look away."Oh! I'm sorry, please...wait...no...please stop." She gathers up her head covering. "Please, don't...please don't pity me..." She shakes her head. "All are beautiful within His Light." A sob escapes her lips. She covers herself back up, and regains her position and poise. "Now, forgive me for that...to where was that prayer for?"I pray for Citadel itself." You say. "That it might become better than it is, today.""Citadel is perfect!" Someone snaps towards you."Now, now..." Lea says. "Citadel is lovely, but only His Light is perfect, and that is because He Knows that it will change." She pauses and then looks around. "Forgive me, brothers and sisters...I do not mean to keep you here unduly. We all have lives. What time is it? I don't see a clock here."
>>23811356Ok, why the fuck are there no clocks?
>>23811356The lack of clock in Citadel. The clocks in the inventor's and the outcasts' home.Think there is something up?
>>23811391Because in Citadel the service lasts from when Citadel wants it to start until Citadel wants it to stop.
>>23811391>>23811393 Definitely, we have clearly Noticed the lack of any clocks in citadel, besides with the outcasts.
>>23811391Citadel is all about stagnation, clocks go against that.
>>23811391>>23811393>>23811403>>23811410It's simpler than all that.Clocks weren't around when citadel was born.
>>23811423This, time always marches forward and changes, but citadel cannot stand that.
Lets approach Lea. Greet her. Give her back her book and tell her that His Teachings made us both strong. No matter the scars life leaves on us. She should always carry them with her.
>>23811461not always carry them, but not be ashamed of them.
>>23811461I like it.
>>23811461Show her our scars by lifting off our hood and taking off our gloves, as one would do in a normal conversation.
>>23811356"Please, Sister Lea." A man says. "We have nowhere else we wish to be. Please, lead us like the others, so that His Light hears our prayers at all times.""What?" Lea says. "That's...that's not right." She pats her pockets of her dress. "Where's my book of the Teachings? I need to check something...prayer is useless if it's just the flapping of mouths and empty words. That I remember, but...the Teachings say it better...wait..." She looks up and snaps her fingers. "Right, I left it at Ssen's room. I need to go get it.""Before you go," The zealot says. "Please, let us pray for your friends. They need it, don't they?""Yes...Ssen is hurt." Lea says. "And you wish them better..." The zealot says."Yes.""So pray for them, lead us in prayer...and His Light will shine on Citadel, and Citadel will heal her.""Yes..." Lea says. "Yes...let us bow our heads..."
>>23811520After the prayer, should we stand out and say that sometimes, for the strangest reasons, prayers are answered.
>>23811520I kinda want to do the whole"I'm right here, Lea. Maybe not 100% but good enough."
>>23811520Or should we rise up and say, "preacher, is this what you are looking for?"
>>23811520>His Light will shine on Citadel, and Citadel will heal her."Wow.I am speechless.
>>23811520"Pray forgive my rudeness, good people, but I would not feel right praying for myself." With a chuckle, stand, "It would seem citadel is one step ahead of us, anyway."
>>23811520"I need no more healing, Lea. I have your book right here."
>>23811574I am in support of this. The right mix of truth and subtlety.
>>23811520"No need to worry, Lea, I have your book right here. Though I think it would be a little embarrassing to have you pray for me when I'm right here."
>>23811548>>23811554>>23811564I sorta want to hear the prayer though
>>23811571I think the Zealot knows how to fly under citadel's radar
>>23811520I Imagine that the Teachings say that the Light can hear your prayers no matter where you are, no matter who you are.
>>23811589>right here>right hereI need to proof read my posts.
>>23811574I'll third it.
>>23811520bit late butgive citadel a chance to heal us. It might have decided it messed up when we where hit by the bolt.
>>23811594Can we turn it against them?
>>23811622You funny guy.
>>23811622>give citadel a chance to heal us. It might have decided it messed up when we where hit by the bolt. Its had three months to do that. Fuck 'em
>>23811622I'd rather not have it touch us.
>>23811631Citadel is a bit slow, if you have not noticed.
>>23811629>>23811631>>23811636hah i knew that would get some pushback.I am not entirely sure Citadel is actually Evil, It might just be incredibly misguided.
>>23811662Citadel might heal us. But I am not sure what else it will "heal". Like the tail. It is too risky, in my opinion.
>>23811622True. Citadel WILL heal us. If we play by it's rules. You wanna play it's game?
>>23811662I think it needs to be burned to the ground but that's me.
Like I said, I wanna hear the prayer. Apologize afterwards for it being unnecessary, but "you didn't want to interrupt your sermons."
>>23811686They are bowing their heads. It is too late to interrupt them anyways.
>>23811662Aye. Like I've been saying, it's a foolish, spoiled child which needs a stern, kind and patient hand to guide it firmly back to the Light.
>>23811662If we could convert citadel that'd be pretty bitchin. Love those who try to kill you and what not. REDEEM THEM. REDEEM THEM ALL
>>23811686By the sound of it though, the sermon will literally go on forever unless we stop it.
>>23811686That might let it get a hold on Lea, I'd rather interrupt its forcing her to preach. We've heard enough of this blasphemy.
>>23811574"Pray forgive my rudeness, good people, but I would not feel right praying for myself." You say as you raise your body up above the crowd. "It would seem Citadel is one step ahead of us, anyway.""Ssen!" Lea says. You see the Lightkeeper Zealot that was talking to Lea blanch in surprise. Then he tilts his head. Lea comes up to you and hug you. "I have your book." You say as you hand her the book of Teachings."Oh, that doesn't matter." She takes her book the same though. "You're what's important! Oh, blessed be His Light! You're okay! Oh, your hair..." She touches your hands. "I'm sorry...you were supposed to be..." She shakes her head. "I'm so glad you're here...can you believe this? They want me to preach to them!" She frowns at Tricia. "And I told you that one prayer meeting to His Light would be useful!" She snaps."Lea...that was five weeks ago." Tricia says.Lea looks at you. "What? Really?" She looks around. "No, that can't be right...I...I did one prayer and then..." Her eyes slowly start to widen. "What's going on?" She asks. She's looking very scared.
>>23811700Redeem? Old testament, fire and brimstone, wrath of god style needs to go down on Citadel.
>>23811723We need to go get the others.
>>23811723"I will explain it once we have the others, and are out of the city."
>>23811730The original Light Bringer sounds much more New Testament.
>>23811723You're tired. You've been preaching a lot, but sometimes even His most devout children need rest. Besides, the Light can always hear them whether they are led in prayer or not.
>>23811746This, and, we need to help villagers in distant reaches pray to the Light too.
>>23811723"We can walk and talk, come on, I want to go meet the rest of my friends too."
>>23811758I like it. Changing my vote to this.
>>23811723"Your faith in His Light will see you through this day Lea, take The Teachings."
>>23811730go back a thread or 2, and read the background on what the Caligo Clarus taught which we are trying to follow.its not fire and brimstone, its forgiveness, and redemption stuff.
>>23811794I'm fully aware of that. But after the crap of the last few threads. Fire and brimstone sound a hell of a lot better than forgiveness and redemption for this place.
>>23811723"You were simply overcome by your own devotion to your divine duty and lost track of time. I think we could both use some time enjoying the city's bounty, ne?">We need Citadel to want us to go out into the city. Lea is coming to close to breaking her own chains early.
>>23811723I think we should tell her we'll explain later.
reassuring her that everything is alright is lying to her.
By the way, folks, y'all could learn a lot about how we should be comporting ourselves from this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_a_Good_Life_%28The_Twilight_Zone%29
>>23811822She's already broken the chains, it's time to make certain that we can keep hold of her.
>>23811821that is my entire point, the more you want to go fire and brimstone, the MORE reason to allow for forgiveness and redemption.
>>23811914Thank you! I was wracking my brain trying to remember the name of that episode!Yeah, mix that with Calvin and Hobbes and Calvin's insistence on the 'Hamster Huey and the Gooey-Kablooey' story
>>23811758"You're tired. You've been preaching a lot, but sometimes even His most devout children need rest. Besides, the Light can always hear them whether they are led in prayer or not." You say out loud. You pull her in close and whisper. "I'll explain later, we need to get out of here."Lea nods. "What am I wearing?" She pulls off the burkha again and leaves it on the floor. She turns to the group. "Thank you brothers and sisters, may His Light go with you all, and lead you through the Darkness."She turns to you. "Let's get out of here...five weeks?!"
>>23811997"Three months!"Lets find Mage."
>>23811997When you get out"At least it wasn't three months."Hug, "We need to get Mage and the others as well."
>>23811997You walk through the hall of cloister rooms back to the main chapel. You see that there are other small crowds of people being led in prayer by other very pious looking people. A few of them have rooms that smell really really foul. Lea shakes her head. "What is going on here?" She looks at the two of you. "That's a question I shouldn't ask too loudly, isn't it?"
Lets go get Mage.
>>23811997"Dont ask me, I just woke up yesterday, Three Months!"
>>23812026Yes, lets wait until we are together. (and out of the city.)
>>23812026"We'll explain everything later, but not here. First we need to go gather our other friends."
>>23812026"Yes, at least until we are out of the city."
If the Citadel was not ever vigilant, I imagine the paladin in us would start flipping money-changers' tables and freeing caged doves at this point.
>>23812046You nod.Tricia holds up for you guys to hold up. "Trouble at the front doors!" She whispers as she points down from the walkway that you're on. At the bottom of the Cathedral at the Great Doors is Paladin Odette and two Occuli.
>>23811997"Calm down, Lea." Hug her, "I promise you nothing here is as worrying as it seems. Come on, lets go see what Mage is up to. So what's new around the rest of the city that I missed in these past 3 months?">Make citadel think we're all happy and everything is okay, divert its attention and also get an idea of what it's been up to while we were out.
>>23812076"Damn, is there another way out? I'd rather not have to deal with her right now."
Greet Odette cordially. I wonder if Citadels going to try to keep us here longer so it can get its hooks into us. Probably going to offer a paladin position.
>>23812076Show them all due respect. Delighted, greet them as some of Citadel's most dutiful servants.
>>23812125Hahaha. I sometimes wonder whether that paladinhood under the Occuli is worth it.
>>23811943Oh, we'll forgive them alright. We'll forgive the shit out of them.
>>23812150I like this. It is true, too.
>>23812099"Damn, is there another way out? I'd rather not have to deal with her right now."Lea shakes her head. "Not unless you think you can climb down a wall of stained glass, or don't have too much concern about gravity." She points at the window. You seriously consider it."We could hide in a cloister." Tricia says. "I am NOT going back into one of those things!" Lea hisses. "This place is..." She sees the two of you shake your heads. "I'd feel uncomfortable disrupting someone else's prayer."
>>23812171Well then, guess we're going to have to grit our teeth and talk to Odette.
>>23812076"I'm not in good shape for a throwdown now...is there another way out?"
>>23812163I'm glad we're on the same page
>>23812194yup, be polite
>>23812171"Ah Paladin Odette. It is nice to see you, I heard that you captured the assassin that made the attempt on Prince Itzak's life."
>>23812171>>23812194now now. Let's just walk past her.Perhaps give here a friendly nod as we go by. With any luck, we can avoid her entirely this way.
>>23812171Ok, lets get out of here, then.
>>23812224I doubt we can just go by her without being noticed ... or her saying something stupid.
>>23812171You bite the bullet and head down to face the music, and the Paladin."Applicant Ssen!" Odette says with a clear calm smile. "I had heard you were up. I'm glad to see it." She nods at your friends. "I'm sorry about the delay in your confirmation.""Hmm?""Oh, right." Tricia says. "Well...you've been approved to be a Paladin but...""But there's some concern about His Majesty being out in the public to speak for you as your sponsor." Odette says. "We're trying to see if we can do a loophole, to see if we can have him here by a proxy or other solution, but it seems that Her Illuminated Self is insistent on the old ways." She shrugs. "Politics, the bane of us all."
>>23812262it really depends on whether she looks down or not. She might not even recognize us if she doesn't.If she does, well... It's hard to not notice it's a lamia.
Her Illuminated Self?I think we just found Citadel's mortal coil
>>23812290>"Then perhaps he should attend, you have captured the assassin have you not?"
>>23812290"Ah, maybe we'll have time to fill a chapel with citizens calling for ordainment after all!
>>23812290We should try and extricate ourselves. Say that we haven't quite fully recovered from the poison and are still weak, and swoon in Tricia's arms for dramatic effect.
>>23812290"Indeed, though I imagine you hold yourself quite well in such arena. "Though as much I wish to continue this talk, I must beg your leave. Have wish to speak with my friends here. After all, we have much to catch up on."
>>23812290"'Tis just as well. The safety of Citadel's royal family is of paramount concern and patience is a virtue besides."
>>23812290"I understand, I'm still not fully recovered yet anyway, so there's no rush."Honestly, do we even want to be made an official paladin right now? It would be another way for Citadel to get its claws into us.We're already closer to a real paladin than most of the Occuli anyway.
>>23812328Gonna retract mine
>>23812290Give her a neutral smirk, "Shame how things like that seem to happen when we near eachother, isn't it?"
One good thing is that it will get Isen OUT of whatever hole he has been sequestered in... and we can make a run for it. Itd be kinda like eloping.
I was kinda worried on how to free him so this will be perfect.
>>23812319Thought I mentioned her. She's the Pope-analogue. But, you wouldn't be wrong in thinking that she didn't exist until the Citadel Ages. Though she has been different people.>>23812328"Yes, well...if you'll excuse me. I need to catch up with my friends...and...oh..." You fan your face. "Excuse me, I still have moments, I need some air." You gently push past her."When you have a moment," Odette says. "I'd love to talk to you about what happened. We got the man that shot you, but you never can't have enough information in these things.""She'll let you know." Tricia says. You all leave, and Lea waits all of three blocks before spinning you around. "WHAT is going ON?! How in his name could I be leading a prayer group for FIVE WEEKS?"
>>23812448"Patience Lea and have faith in us, there are to many ears within this city, we must hurry and collect the others.
>>23812448There is something wrong with Citadel. It makes people content as long as you fit in. And if you don't you get punished. Point out the examples you've seen. I think even Isen's assassination had something to do with it. I FELT it when it grew displeased. Thats how I knew to look for that assassin
>>23812448"This city is not what it seems. Just play along for now until we can gather the others."
>>23812448"I've always been stunned by your devotion, Lea. This time you simply surprised yourself, too. I suppose you were just worried. I can't say I wouldn't go off the deep end if any one of you had been poisoned like I was."
>>23812448"Lea, it may be very important that you trust me for now. I swear that I will answer you once we are out of town. "
>>23812448"Not here, Lea. The others still need our help."
>>23812518Ach, you've got a point. My worry about invoking Citadel's Ire may be getting the better of me.
>>23812448"It's not safe to talk about it here, but Lea I promise once we have our friends and we're somewhere safe, I'll explain everything. Please just trust me for now."
>>23812484>>23812510"I've always been stunned by your devotion, Lea. This time you simply surprised yourself, too. I suppose you were just worried. I can't say I wouldn't go off the deep end if any one of you had been poisoned like I was.""That doesn't answer my question." Lea says."Patience, Lea, and have faith in us, there are to many ears within this city, and this city is not what it seems. Just play along, we have to hurry and collect the others.""Alright." Lea turns around. "Can you PLEASE tell me what's been sticking to my back? It itches like crazy!"
>>23812572oh no this can't possiblythere is no way it can turn out wellLook, I guess.
Take a look. It might be something covering her scar. Maybe a 'treatment' for her scars that is covering the symbol that formed from her scars.
>>23812572"I...what?"Is there something on her back we can see? If not, we should probably take her somewhere private like an alley and take a look.
>>23812572check what is on her back
>>23812572Lift her shirt and take a look
>>23812572Goddamn, Citadel's getting revenge already.
>>23812598oh your right, her symbol is probably covered.
>>23812572Steel ourselves and take a look. We have to carefully consider even our reactions.
>>23812587You do a quick peek down the back of her dress, she missed one of her bandages when she took them off for her Devoted robes. It's clinging to her back, specifically it's pinching part of her skin...making it just so that it forms that pattern you saw back at the lair of the Underwasp Witch.
>>23812644one moment, reading archives
>>23812644tell her what it is and that its probably best she keeps it on. We want that symbol to remain like that.
>>23812644Errm, remind me what that symbol was all about please EchoGarrote?
>>23812644"It didn't itch until today." She squirms a little. The bandages must have just started to peel today. "It's not anything like an insect or something?"
>>23812644"It seems you missed one of your bandages"remove the bandage covering her Caligo Clarus scars
>>23812673I remember it was a holy symbol, similar to ours.I don't remember if it WAS ours.
>>23812684So this is The Light warding off Citadel's influence, hopefully.
>>23812673Lea has her scars and discolorings form the sign of the Caligo Clarus on her back. It didn't itch or bother her until today, when a bandage that she missed removing got unstuck and then restuck to her again, pinching the skin for form the sign, and causing her to itch and scratch and lose her train of thought in the cloister.
Am I an idiot for only now realizing that all of our friends being pre-branded with the caligo clarus means they are resistant to citadel effects
>>23812678I think since hollow contentment is the trademark of Citadel, comfort is the enemy. Maybe she should keep it the way it is. A constant reminder to never feel at home in this city.
>>23812678"It seems you missed one of your bandages" You say as you hand it to her.She sighs in relief. "Thank you. Huh, could have sworn...eh no matter. We're getting Mage...oh dear, what trouble has he gotten into?"
>>23812700>bandages pops off when we ask her to pray for stonetown>pops back on when citadel affirms prayers for citadelWelp!
>>23812729"Apparently he's locked himself away in a big pile of books and vegetables, let's go dig him out."
I hope that wasn't a mistake
>>23812684that was UNDER the bandages, ie her scars made the holy symbol shape of the Caligo Clarusthe symbol at the lair of the Underwasp Witch was NOT the Caligo Clarus one, I suspect it was the symbol of Citadel/Dramatae
>>23812770oh. oh! OH!ooooooooh.shit.
>>23812750"Apparently he's locked himself away in a big pile of books and vegetables, let's go dig him out." You say."You'll probably want some shearing scissors too." Tricia mutters."What?""You'll see..."
>>23812770Oh your right, oops. Hmm we need to keep an eye out for that symbol. Especially around our friends.
>>23812770No no, I'm being unclear. You showed up. Bandage started to cause an itch where the Caligo Clarus emblem is on her back. Done.
Well onto Mage!
>>23812784Shears? Fuck no, son. Our little Merlin's all grown up! Rockin' the WIZZARD beard now.
>>23812815>6thCanonically, I think you mean 13th.There were 13 paladins.
>>23812822oh, i was looking through archives for the symbol at the underside witch lair, either way the symbol was under where the bandage was.>>23812848I think we are in the 7th age of Citadel though.
>>23812770No, the bandage was causing the scars to form the symbol of the Caligo Clarus, just like we saw the last time we looked at her back, which from a certain angle, was the symbol of the Caligo Clarus. The scars on her back dont form the symbol completely.
>>23812889oh so I was right... damnit.
>>23812889from 23675228"You notice that on Lea's back there's an arrangement of her skin legions and scars that almost form a pattern when she flexes, just right. A grey nine pointed star against a black circle with a small white dot in the center."
>>23812841You think that it means that Mage has grown a beard or let his hair grown out. In truth he only has a little stubble. The shears are to GET to him in his 'study center.' The Horn of the Fell Hind is leaning, unused, in a corner. Pieces of paper and pictures cover the walls, along with notes filled with Mage's scribblings. Colored thread stretches across the room in every single possible angle, connecting random points to random points. "So, if the Phoenix Empire's shipyards...yes...yes...are co-related to Hyacinth Newgate's third son, who's parantage is in question as...yes!" Mage pins a piece of string to the wall and then works his way through the maze, passing you three."Hi Tricia, Hi Lea." He says. "I've almost got it all figured out! It's really easy when you start to follow the facts! They're all right there for anyone to find!" He sticks the other end of the string against the wall. "Now...now let's see how far this thing goes...oh you are gonna pay for hurting Ssen, you bastard...and I'm gonna find you."
>>23812913Yup, "When She flexes" means that it doesn't form naturally. THe bandage was helping do that. Removing it was a mistake.
>>23812913Exactly, almost, the pinching skin closed a gap or corrected an angel, just like her flexing.
>>23812932(No it wasn't. It was just trying to remind her who she really was. She remembers now, so there's no need for it, plus the Light doesn't want her to walk around in used bandages.)
>>23812922"Mage, the vengeance quest is very flattering, but I think you might need a break for a while."
I'd rather have you at my side then raring off in a quest for revenge Mage. Here you forgot this. Place the bracelet \shackle around his wrist.
>>23812922Should we attempt to humor him by asking him about his investigation so far, or should we attract his attention by flicking his ear or something?
>>23812922"Not going to say hi to me, Mage?"
>>23812970oh, and don't forget the hand on shoulder.I forgot it when I made that post.
>>23812970This, I like it.
>>23812922"Oh dear." Lea sighs. "He's still on this?""At least he put the diorama away." Tricia mutters."I think that's it under the sheet, right?" Lea points."No...I was thinking of the shoebox one...this is getting worse that I thought." Tricia sighs.
>>23812922Casually slither over to him in silence. Stand right behind him for a moment, then, "Awwe, you DO care. I'm touched." *Shit-eating grin*
>>23812922Try not to snigger at how Mage looks with stubble. "You think I could help you with that?"
>>23812982You easily slide your way through the jungle of threads and get next to Mage."Not going to say hi to me, Mage?""Hmm? Oh. Hi Ssen. Can't talk, trying to figure out who shot you.""Mage, the vengeance quest is very flattering, but I think you might need a break for a while." You say as you put a hand on his shoulder."This will just take me a little more. Tell Lea and Tricia I'll be back by dinner. Promise." He mumbles.
>>23813034"Not even a hug? You've been locked up in here for weeks."
>>23813034You chuckle as you rub his stubble. He knocks you hand away. "Quit it, Ssen...wait..." Finally he looks at you."SSEN!" He hugs you tightly. "Oh...you...I...I tried...I'm sorry." He says.
>>23813034"Mage, how long have you been doing this?"
>>23813068>>23813034shit-eating grin is go.
>>23813068"Not your fault, Mage. But I do hope you found something to fix my hair..."
>>23813068"Don't be sorry, Mage, I know you did everything you could. Now come on, let's get out of this dusty room."
>>23813068Hug him back. Hand him his thing. Tell him you are flattered but you already know who is ultimately responisble for that crossbow bolt. It'll have to wait though. We have friends to gather.
>>23813068"No need to apologise, and I can answer all your questions about what happened soon enough. First we need to go gather the others though."
>>23813068He looks around, at his 'work' and is a little stunned by the scope of it. "Uhh...wow, okay. How long was I here?""Five weeks," Tricia says. "You started your little spider's nest the same time Lea got her fan club.""We are not talking about that, again. Are we clear, or do I punch your chest cavity in?" Lea snaps."You can try." Tricia says.Mage sniffs. "I just...seeing you there..." He looks at you, and you can't but feel like you're looking at a kicked puppy. He sighs. You hand him his bracelet. He gladly snaps it back on and motions for his staff. It floats through the air, navigating the strings, and lands in his hand, sprouting a chain from it to attach to his wrist."Neat, huh?" He says. "Peri said that it gave me style." He pauses. "Oh! Uhh, Tricia?" He asks."Oh here, we go. NOW he remembers." She mutters. "No, and she hasn't shown up since you went down into your spider hole here.""Oh." Mage frowns and looks downcast."Look, lets go and then I'll beat you up for that.""Gee...thanks." Mage says.
>>23813212Tricia winks at you. "Remember Gregory's sister? The 19 year old girl? Guess who's got a cruu-uush!""Shut up!" Mage snaps. "It's not like that!""I thought it was adorable." Lea says."Can we all stop talking like I'm your twelve year old baby brother!" Mage shouts.
>>23813228I didn't say *anything*.
>>23813228Serious face."Lea......You're right, it's totally adorable."
>>23813228"Calm down, all of you, we still need to rescue Peri, Meri, and Tera.
If you want after we visit Mari, Peri and Tara we can swing be Gregory's. I'll be glad to see them as well.
>>23813212Laugh, and then do one of these, but bigger, for the whole gang. Because we can.
>>23813259yes this followed by >>23813261>>23813264
>>23813271but not the whole gang, since we're missing some. Those whole current gang.
>>23813264Isen will be tricky. He's locked up somewhere. Our best bet will be to go to the confirmation for our Paladin hood then abscond with him then
>>23812979>>23813259"Lea...You're right, it's totally adorable." You say perfectly seriously."I think I was happier when I was crazy." Mage mutters. "Wait..." He looks at the web and the walls and back at the group. "Was that me, or is there something else going on?"
>>23813290Something else. But we'll talk about that later.
>>23813290"I'll explain later. Trust me."
>>23813290You did kinda go crazy. But I can explain the rest later.
>>23813290"I will tell you soon, after we are out of the city. There are too many ears in Citadel."
>>23813290"I'll explain everything to all of you soon enough. For now, we need to go gather the others."
>>23813304"I'll explain later. Trust me.""Always." He says as he rubs his shackle. I am in desperate need for a quick break, I'll be back in an hour or two. Please feel free to refresh your concessions at this time.
>>23813329I'd like to refresh Tricia's concessions.
>>23813329archive updated, we already passed bump limit
>>23813329In that case we may want to make a new thread when you get back, as we are already in autosage.
>>23813329>refresh your concessionsThat is a marvelous idea. I am super hongry.I wonder what we'll do about isen. Peri/mari and tara should be easy enough.
Off to Mari \ Peri and Tara. Off to the Arena. We might have to fight Tara again. Unlike the rest of our friends she doesn't have a symbol to guide her. I wonder if we can petition the Fifth Humor for one.
>>23813393actually...What say you to us stopping by the inventor office first and getting a few of the claruses made up for our friends?
>>23813474Not while in the citadel. It's tipping our hand.
>>23813393>>23813383>Peri/mari and tara should be easy enough. Muwahhahaha. Before I collapse then...here...You find Tara and Peri/Mari at the arena. They're pretty easy to find. Peri/Mari is the woman in the private box wearing the two color dress that you think was worn by one of the 'actresses' at a Citadel play. She's got betting slips in both hands."KILL HER!" They shriek. "RIP HER SKIN OFF AND STRANGLE THE BITCH WITH HER OWN TAIL!"Tara's down in the arena, she's taking on four trained Naga pets at once. One of them she has on the ground. She's punching in the creature's face over and over and over and over again. She's screaming in incoherent rage as the crowd cheers her on her fourth kill in a row. You see another pair of pet nagas being prepared to be put into the ring."At least they're interacting with actual people." Mage says as he watches Peri/Mari laugh as she throttles a man who's paying out money to her."BOW BEFORE US!" She screams as she tosses the man down. "Were we one we'd still be TWICE the person YOU'D be!" She kicks him away. "GO!" She yells at Tara. "KILL HER!" She points at the Naga.Tara nods and charges the snakegirls."Okay, so...this apparently got much much worse while I was away." Tricia says."What was she doing before?" Lea said."Using the people she purchased as slaves to be her living throne." Tricia sighs."I miss the warzone." Mage whimpers.
>>23813527eh, true enough.
>>23813606okay, so let's discuss this while you take your break then.also SOMEBODY REARCHIVE THIS SHIT HOLY CRAP THERE'S MORE PLOT CRITICAL INFO
>>23813624Chill, bro. Archive updates itself.
>>23813645oh, okay. Then I'll only freak out about peri and meri.and that these arenas are to the death? That is bad too.
>>23813645the good one(suptg) doesent(it autoupdated every 2 hours...), but I archive it constantly.
>>23813661oh also, in addition to being to the death, there's a 4 naga per match attrition rate by what we're seeing here. It's not only terrible, it's terrible an an extremely industrious pace.
>>23813606Wut.Oh dear. This might be a problem.
>>23813606Oh wow. We need to express some serious paladin disapproval at Peri/Mari and Tara for this. The others got caught by Citadel latching on to parts of the person's personality and making it take over.Apparently Peri/Mari and Tara were psychopaths waiting to happen.
>>23813750>Apparently Peri/Mari and Tara were psychopaths waiting to happen.Exacerbating the issues of two people in one body more like.
>>23813750wellllltara WAS a pit fighter.and peri WAS a professional moneyhound.and mari WAS the daughter of some kind of crazed necromancer thing.Maybe perhaps they needed a good, snake-like influence?
Maximum Paladin Disapproval.
"What in the name of the Light do you think you're doing, young lady?"
>>23813606Just walk up to her and put our hand on her shoulder.
>>23813769>>23813772>>23813774If anything, rather than disapproval. I'd say the best way to make them realise what they're doing would be disappointment.
>>23813797yes, just this.watch her WITHER. ABSOLUTELY WITHER.It will be like your mom catching you sorting your porn collection while you are snorting coke.
>>23813819And we keep on a pokerface throughout the whole thing, to creep them out even more.
Ohhhh boy. When Peri/Mari and Tara snap out of it and look at what they've been doing...
>>23813797>>23813807>>23813819>>23813832Don't be mad at them. Be sad at them. After all, it's the Citadel.
>>23813832>>23813858I prefer sad to pokerfaceGo up to them, hand on shoulder, dissapointment face. Wait for it to seeeeep in.
>>23813858Yes this.>>23813832Also this but clearly sad for (and ashamed of) them.
>>23813878No-one can do disappointment face like a forgiving paladin.
>>23813909Here's hoping it works.
what're you all getting for snacks?I put on some taco meat and cut up some veggies.
>>23814165Nothing, I can probably survive off my fat reserves for months.I really want some red vines though.
Seriously guys, am I the only one freaking out that Tara is about to tear apart our snake-girl cousins? I vote we rear up to our full height (only a quarter needs to be on the ground, so like ten feet tall) and shout "Tara, No!"Pit fighting is fine, but this is going to be murder!
>>23814165I got a muffin and a glass of milk.
>>23814184Seems like this is something that's common practice in Citadel.
>>23814184>>23814196And Purple Sands. I got the impression Tara fought a lot of naga in her time.
>>23814184I don't... actually think she can hear us. We're in an arena. There's little we could do save jump in there and look very much like a naga while attempting to break the currently naga killing minotaur away from the nagas.
>>23814215Indeed, I think we need to go up to Mari/Peri's box and give her the disappointment treatment. Because I bet when Tara's done, she's going to look up at the box, then she gets to see us looking down at her, radiating sadness in her general direction.
>>23814215We need to use our best paladin shout of disapproval. Nothing rings through the air quite like JUSTICE
>>23814232Light-empowered paladin shout of JUSTICE can cut through the cheers of even the most bloodthirsty crowd.
>>23814232>>23814255I am not entirely sure if we have that class feature.I am almost entirely sure we can do dissapointment though.
>>23814232>>23814255>>23814301That's it. I'm sick of this "Masterwork Shouting" bullshit that's going on in Lamia Daughter quest right now. Voice of JUSTICE deserves much better than that. Much, much better than that.I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine Voice of JUSTICE in Purple Sands for 500000 gold (that's about 5000000 silver) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even silence rampaging barbarian hordes with my Voice of JUSTICE.Caligo Clarus Paladins spend years developing a Voice of JUSTICE and berate up to a million evildoers to produce the finest voices known to man or lamiakind.Voices of JUSTICE are thrice as loud as bloodthirsty roars and thrice as powerful for that matter too. Anything a warlord could bellow into submission, a Voice of JUSTICE could silence quicker. I'm pretty sure a Voice of JUSTICE could easily silence a black knight wearing full spiked bloodstained plate with a simple statement.Ever wondered why evil never conquered the Caligo Clarus? That's right, it was too scared to fight the disciplined Paladins and their Voices of JUSTICE. Even in the final battle with the Dragon Who Dwells in Darkness, the Darkness targeted the men with the Voices of JUSTICE first because their shouting power was feared and respected. So what am I saying? Voices of JUSTICE are simply the best voices that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in Lamia Daughter Quest. Here is the stat block I propose for a Voice of JUSTICE: 1d12 Brian BlessedsCauses guilt and cows evildoers on a 1++5 to volume and gravityCounts as MasterworkNow that seems a lot more representative of the shouting power of Voices of JUSTICe in real life, don't you think?tl:dr = Voices of JUSTICE need to be more commanding in Lamia Daughter Quest, see my new stat block.
>>23814480I am considering whether or not to save this forever
>>23814480you owe me a new keyboard.
>>23814603I imagine citadel is going to be feeling like this towards us soon. If not already.
>>23814480>1d12 Brian Blesseds
>>23813606Appeal to Peri by donning some crappy home-made version of a Paladin's raiments, and then try to get her into a confession.Try to remind her of her previous confession, and pull the holy-goodness act to get her into one again. Don't know what to do with Mari though, heh.
>>23814726That'll just look silly if we pull that. If she does a confession it has to be her choice. For now we just guilt trip the fuck out of her with disappointed paladin face.
>>23814742Meet her in the barracks/quarters/whatever, then sadface her.
>>23814793It's more effective if we sadface her here, where she's caught red-handed.I'm sure we can barge into her viewing box, we are after all the Hero of Citadel, apparently.
>>23814815We don't need to barge. Just slide up. And look at her. Then look at Tara fighting. Then look back at Peri/Mari.
>>23814900hand on shoulder can be deployed at this point, but dissapointment face should have been already deployed
A thought occurs, Tara is in a fight to the death. If we do distract her, she might be the one who dies. I doubt the Naga will pass up the opportunity to take her down if she takes her eyes off them, they've already witnessed her smash several others to bloody chunks in front of them.
>>23814944yeah. I don't want to stop the fight. You don't stop these things mid-fight, especially with naga who might not even be able to talk.If nobody taught the nagas to talk, how can they listen to our paladin shouts?
>Tara snaps out of it>Knows we saw her kill nagas in the pit like a savage>Nervously approaches us and tries to stutter an apology>Expects us to be angry, or at least tell her that she needs to ask forgiveness>Doesn't expect us to put our arms around her and say "Oh, you poor thing..."Unlimited Guilt Works
>>23815171UNLIMITED GUILT BREAKERRRAnd then forgive her.
>>23814960Maybe talk some sense into Peri/Mari first, then since Tara listens to her, have her set up an arm/tail wrestle between you and Tara (while we are in disguise). In our weakened state she will surely win, and then we throw off the disguise and BAM, nostalgia.
>>23815213How about we don't be Odysseus until we are out of the city..
>>23815213If you want to get Taras attention we just need to say "Isen misses you."You know he does.
My tacos are done and echo isn't back yet. Worry.
>>23815615No posts by EG in at least 2 hours. That feel.
>>23815665And we won't see him again until 3 months later when he returns with white hair.
>>23815615Worry no longer. For I have ginger ale and no work tomorrow. 1d12 Brian Blesseds? That's amazing. You won yourself a re-roll in times of need, my friend. You make your way through the crowd. It's a little amazing and disgusting really. Like everything of Citadel, it's shiny and bright and pretty, and then you actually look. Peri/Mari aren't the only ones behaving badly. It's the most extreme case, granted, but you see people gambling like crazy, or indulging in vices, and so on.For some reason, you find it strangely comforting that Citadel had to devote so much energy and go so far, and take apparently nine weeks of straight corruption for it to get to your people.Still, don't stop from you going to have to 'deal' with this. You make your way to Peri/Mari's box and you just lean against it for a while. Your new hair color was damn useful in getting you close without the others, or Citadel, freaking out instantly.
>>23815714Food poisoning I tell you, someone probably dropped some emp scorpion poison in his food.
>>23815761>literally 7 minutes after I voice worry echo returnsMy worry glands are precisely tuned, it seems.Anyway, now we have to figure out how to get into the box and paladinface her successfully. I still suggest deploying the shoulderhand when the time comes.
>>23815761we need a new thread, we are on page 10 now, we will fall off the board soon.
Put a hand on her shoulder. Greet both Mari and Persephone seperately. Put sadness and regret in your voice when you do so.
>>23815761>>23815799yes, can you please re-post this in a new thread echo? We're straining our time as it is
>>23815761You clear your voice and the woman do a look at you, which turns into a double take, which turns into a triple take, which turns into her just standing there. Looking at what she's doing."We...we thought that we could..." There's a pause and she shakes her head."Ugh, oh damnit Mari, I told you we weren't going to wear this dress...wait...where are we?""I only said that it looked pretty, and I wanted to go visit Ssen, but you said we needed the money. How long have we been here?" They look at you with a fervent hope that you're going to buy their act.
>>23815818Tell the truth."Five weeks."(If I ain't misunderstanding what the post was about)
An act? Do we really see it as fake?
>>23815818Hand on their should, turn them around, show them Tara, and say."Five weeks."
>>23815818>>23815847either DISSAPROVING FACE OF SILENCEor "Too long".Depending on if we need to talk.
>>23815847With the look of disappointment. Don't forget that.
>>23815818"It's okay"Hug. They need it.
and now, I ATTEMPT THE DREADED CROSS THREAD LINKLLLLAMIA QUEST IS HERE!>>23815898>>23815898>>23815898
