If there was no force , who would be the best pilot in the star wars universe?my vote goes to Baron Fel
Why is Luke so moe in that picture?
>>23785063>Baron Fel>not Wedge Antilles
>>23785063Either Wedge, Han or Fel. My vote goes to Wedge.
>>23785063Not the only non-jedi to survive both death star battles?>>23785106My Nigger.
>>23785106you could make a case for Wedge , but in a 1 on 1 , Wedge would be distracted because their "sort of" relatedWedge is the kind of guy who wouldve problems with that kind of thing
>>23785141Didn't thay state somewhere that Wedge was the best, based on the number of kills?
>>23785063 Syal Antilles
>>23785255pfft , Syal would get her ass handed to her by anyone from the reorganized rouge squadron
>>23785148"who's the best" doesn't mean "who wins 1 on 1".
>>23785172Not sure. But he does have the last shot on number 2 because Lando is all poo and can't seem to shoot two separate targets with torpedoes AND quad cannons.
>>23785063>Baron Fel>Hid away when the galaxy needed him>best pilotHaaaa, no.Pilot rankings in my book: WedgeTychoCorran, WesHobbieLuke (he doesn't fly all the time, remember?)Then, MAYBE Fel.Now, why is Wedge above two jedi? Well in the book I, Jedi, Corran Horn barely outflew Tycho and that was only because Corran was reading Tycho's mind. And he BARELY outflew the man. And Wedge is BETTER.Master tactician, reluctant politician, Ultra-Ace pilot, decent intelligence operative (when he bothers). If Wedge were an RPG character, he'd be a mary sue no doubt.
>>23785255>>23785286Syal.... Syal.....Only thing that comes to mind is Wedge's sister, and she's an actress.[spoilers]Everything after Young Jedi Knights was all a terrible dream.[/spoilers]
Wedge without a doubt. Who else has convinced an entire enemy force to believe they're an Ewok?
>>23785888Yub yub, Commander.Oh yes, and I forgot god-tier prankster from my list earlier.
>Corran/LukeIf we dont take the force into account , these two suck donkey dick. Corran because hes way overconfident and it should have gotten him killed a hundret timesLuke because he has little formal training
>>23785948I would argue that he's overconfident because he's a fighter jock. I'm not saying that if the Force weren't there he wouldn't be dead, but there is a reason for the sheer ego of the man.Though I would argue that Luke can't possibly suck donkey dick as a pilot because he's a Main Character, which means that he'll either receive training from some piloting master or he'll blunder through with sheer luck. Though honestly, Luke's story isn't that of a pilot. He started out that way, sure, but he's following the path of the wizard-knight.

>>23785512To be fair, Tycho had a better ship, and Corran was simultaneously trying to stay alive, not kill Tycho and keep his cover. Much harder than just shooting the man. Also, Fel's old wingmate should be on there somewhere.
Bror Jace all the way!
>>23787336You notice that Tycho tends to outfly everyone when he has a decent ship. That one time on Adumar with the Blade 32s (that's right, right?) he was having a hell of a time because he went from basically a supersonic fighter jet to a biplane.>keep his coverWell... kind of. Obviously the whole 'not-shooting-at-people-attacking-you' deal would have given him away, but he didn't do anything else aside from the vision that would have exposed him. >>23790002Yes I know. And then, THEN! the world will know why I divorced myself from Star Wars all those years ago! *evil laughter*But that's where Selective Canon comes in.I now have an official excuse to pretend that certain things never existed and other things definitely did.>>23790059Why hello, sir! May I interest you in some prime real estate in Egypt?
>>23790081>Selective CanonYeah, I kinda do the same thing. Like how the Republic comic series and the Clone Wars TV show are contradicting each other - I reconcile it in my head by saying "Jedi. Don't gotta explain shit."Very liberating tool, is Selective Canon.Being, as I am, a die-hard Mandalorian fan, it fucking has to be.
>>23785512Suprised Han isn't in there at all, he was an Imperial ace before deserting.
>>23790157>die-hard Mando fanMy stance on Mandalorians: eh *shrug*You like it, that's great. It's great that you found something you like. But when I go Selective Canon, I go with 'this book didn't happen' or 'this one definitely happened no matter what retcons'.More of an All Or Nothing approach. >No Callista because goddamn plot tumor getting in the way of hot redheads>Courtship of Princess Leia totally happened because I loved it>Vong War + the followups never happened because what the fuck guys>Clone Wars ended thirty years before A New Hope because that gives time for a few needed things to happen
>>23790202Probably because we've never really seen him piloting an actual fighter, just the Falcon and similar freighters. It' be like comparing an F-15 pilot to an C-130 pilot.
>>23790247Ok, you've got a more hardcore approach to it than I have. I'm pretty forgiving of the franchise as a whole, much like a woman who repeatedly "walks into doors." Some of it's fucktarded, some of it's beyond awesome, a good deal of it of it falls into meh. But dat potential in the setting. Almost any type of story one could want to tell can be done in the Star Wars universe. Just a shame that the general quality isn't always up to scratch, with the exception of anything by based Ostrander.
>>23790202If I remember, he was more a troop officer than a flight officer.

>>23790458He who wears this claims the baddass pilot spot.
>>23790430Oh yeah, Star Wars has potential, but people abuse it like fuck. And the problem with expanding my small pool of canon is that reading each book/comic/whatever makes them 'real'. You know what I mean? I've avoided reading the Vong War or any of that stuff except for a few pages which convinced me that it was shit (pro writing tip: if you can't hook a reader within the first three pages, you have failed).I hear good things about Legacy, but that's still got all the things I dislike about the EU, including the retroactive adoption of desert ropes as Official Jedi Robes TM. You know who else dressed like a Jedi? Owen Lars, and he ain't a Jedi.Man, I almost didn't read the new Wraith Squadron book and honestly I found it lackluster so I probably was justified in my hesitation.I know my stance is very hadrcore, but I want to protect my nostalgia at all costs.
>>23790247>Courtship of Princess LeiaThis gives us Tenenniel Djo, and thus Tenel Ka, so I'm okay with this.>No CallistaEh, I was really a fan of Callista and felt the writing out of her via 'can only access the Dark Side, must go find a fix' was a writer's mandate for 'no Luke relationships' that was reversed with Mara. Because, honestly, I realllllllly hated Mara up until just prior to the Vong books.>no VongIt's different; not perfect, but to me, more interesting than 'Empire resurgence forty-seven: the new superweapon'.
>>23790719>reading each book/comic/whatever makes them 'real'. You know what I mean? Right there with you. If it's got the banner at the top, it's official.>Vong War or any of that stuff except for a few pages which convinced me that it was shitIt was. Far too grimdark, actually read more like 40K than anything.>LegacyI've only read the Ostrander comic, ignored the books entirely. It is pretty good, a sprawling space epic that manages multiple characters/factions/fucking everything pretty smoothly. There are elements that will probably irk you - the Imperial Knights spring to mind, but they're not as retarded as you might think, and there was a dreadful crossover with other titles that feels jarring.> the retroactive adoption of desert ropes as Official Jedi Robes TMKnow what you mean, but never really bothered me. Seen enough redesigns in the EU to convince me that a robe's just a robe in Star Wars.> I want to protect my nostalgia at all costs. The next few years will be hell for you. May the force be with you, my friend, because you're going to fucking need it.
>>23791017Legacy doesn't have any novels that I'm aware of, just the comics. The most recent books were the Fate of the Jedi series, which is pre-Legacy.
>>23791045...that would be what I was thinking of. Disregard that, I fellate banthas.
>>23791070Nah, it's an easy slip-up. You do no such thing. Not that Fate of the Jedi was that good; dark side Force entity was not my favorite villain (again, different, but...)
>>23790391Are there weaponized C-130s?Falcon is more of a small corvette than a freighter, with all the modifications that went into it. Is there even a fitting comparison among the airplanes?
Wedge motherfucking Antilles, how is there any doubt? He is even a real character(im looking at you eu).
>>23790247>Courtship of Princess Leia totally happened because I loved itI know. It's so badly written and full of bad cliches and stupid science but I loved it anyway. But it has to be canon in my head because Wraith Squadron leads into it, and I love all the X-wing books, especially the Wraith ones.
>>23790978I disagree with the 'Empire Incorperated; providing you with a new superweapon every day' plotline too, but I tried to read a Vong War novel back when it was just starting and it was the first book I started reading that wasn't finished. That was big for me. And then I heard about Chewbacca dying and the I heard about Anakin dying and then Coruscant falls and this person dies and that planet falls and and and.The more it went on, the bigger the hurdle it would be to finally get into it. So... for me, the Scarlet Witch said "No more Star Wars" and that's the way it went for... shit seven years?>>23791017I hear that Legacy is great, but... the burned hand.... As for the new Star Wars movies... I don't think I'll go see them, even if a miracle occurs and they include the EU. Just like I won't be watching the Hobbit trilogy; I already had my fill and now I'm done.It happened when I watched Eva and EoE, it happened when I spent a month playing WoW, and it's going to happen with Star Wars.
>>23791125C-130 gunships yo. Look up the Spooky or the Spectre.Honestly though the Falcon is is closer to a Flying Fortress that carries cargo instead of bombs.
>>23790719>but that's still got all the things I dislike about the EU, including the retroactive adoption of desert ropes as Official Jedi Robes TM.Dude, Yoda and Anakin had them as ghosts in RotJ. But yeah I know where you're coming from, it hit me as a being kinda stupid from Plinkett reviews.
>>23791219I stand corrected. That thing looks awesome.
>>23791125>Are there weaponized C-130s?Why would you need one when you can have purpose-built combat droids like IG-88 or the YVHs?>Falcon is more of a small corvette than a freighter, with all the modifications that went into it. Is there even a fitting comparison among the airplanes?AC-130 probably.>>23791045>>23791070Might be confusing it with the Legacy of the Force series, which let into Fate of the Jedi and by far was one of the worst story arcs. Some people even consider it worse than the Vong.
>>23791169Legacy is pretty good; it's got some interesting implications (like the Fel dynasty being descended from Jagged and Jaina), but the Skywalker character is a bit annoying. He's a bounty hunter who uses drugs to deaden his connection to the Force.
>>23790978>>23791153Did any of you read this thing... shit, what was it....Like Prince of the Jedi or some shit?Little kids novels, they had them in the school library when I was in eighth grade. Who has blond hair and blue eyes? Anakin, Luke, and.... Beru.
>>23791272All that gets referenced in other novels too, like Anakin and Tahiri and their little fuzzy master Ikrit.
>>23791151>He is even a real character(im looking at you eu). We've already established the supremacy of Selective Canon ITT. That Lucasfilm "Levels of Canon" bullshit has been jettisoned with the rest of the garbage, as per standard procedure.>>23791169>I already had my fill Yeah, had that thoughout life with various franchises. But after a while, I crave something of the familiar, which invariably leads me back to Star Wars. Which is why the notion that the EU I've spent 15 years reading about could well be summarily discarded by these new flicks is...it's painful, man.
>>23791272Fuck, I remember those books. I used to read them in my public library when I was in grade school. There was some pretty silly shit in those books now that I look back.I also remember the Galaxy of Fear series. >>23791232Yeah, the AC-130U, the most recent version of it anyway, mounts enough firepower to level a column of tanks. The next major revision is going to be mounting a 120 mm smoothbore and a better ECM.
>>23791422>Dark EmpireYe gods, no. Spare yourself the retardation. This guy>>23791450is spot on. Pic related. 90s SW comics were very hit and miss, but one thing is certain - Cam Kennedy had no business being anywhere near them
>>23791699>that panelLuke... Luke....there's something wrong with your.... everything. Your words, your hair, your... sunglasses? Really? >>23791699ctnd...story?Superweapons, superweapons everywhere, the Dark Side is basically Chaos power (again with the 40K, I know, but it's an accurate comparison) - a corrupting power source that could turn meek dickheads into KILLMAIMDESTROY warriors with one blast of Palpy's force lightning and power machinery. Oh and Boba Feet lost his helmet and then knocked himself out with a jetpack-assisted headbutt on a steel girder. It was all very XTREME. Just don't bother - you don't want this to become "real" in your head.
>>23791769>Boba Fett shenanigans... this explains why Karen Traviss had to be all 'MANDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS' then.
>>23791769>Boba FeetThem banthas are getting well sucked this evening, I swear..
>>23791800There is no earthly explanation for some of the shit she came out with. Basing them on the Celts - ok, I can dig it. I'm Irish, so bonus. But the whole "intrinsically better than Jedi" - nope. Just nope.

But XTREME from the 90s is just painfully sincere.>>23791816>intrinsically better than JediI could deal with people who could hold their own against Jedi, because Jedi are not Superheros they are just wizards with a cool sword. But BETTER foreverz is just...It's like how the Vong are supposed to be undetectable in the Force when we are TOLD that LIFE creates the Force and if they don't show up then that raises some very strange questions.
>>23791816>But the whole "intrinsically better than JediThat…that doesn't even make any sense. A Jedi is just about any alien who, on top of his natural abilities, has actual magic and follows a specfic philosophy. Does being a Mandalorian allow you to generate a field that makes Jedi suck or something? That isn't to say that I don't think Jedi should never be beaten by non-Jedi, just that you have to work for it.
>>23791866I swear when I looked at that thumbnail I thought that Deadpool had somehow gotten into the Marvel Universe and had disguised himself except for the mask. But no, it's just some Devaronian.
>>23791870Honestly, I always saw the Vong thing as an issue of evolution -- and a veiled callback to midichlorians. The Vong are extragalactic entities, and as such don't have the thing that gives Force sensitivity or presence anymore (it's talked about in the books), save the one dude who shaped his own brain with World Brain tissue.
>>23785948but corran was a ace and 2nd or 3rd pilot in rogue squadron before he went jedi, the flight sequences from his pov in the books show him to perhaps be reckless at times but still a good pilot>>23790059and thats probably the only parts of EU canon worth keeping, the zahn books and the x wing series. if it isnt written by zahn stackpole or allston it can safely be skipped
>>23791891>Deadpool into the Marvel Universe>not the Star Wars UniverseOh my god, the banthas... the banthas are everywhere
>>23791884Apparently, according to Karen Traviss, the Mandalorians always have THE MORAL HIGH GROUND OVER THE JEDI due to Jedi apparently supporting slavery (ie: commanding clone troops) during the Clone Wars, despite the fact that the Jedi actually treated the clones like actual humans, as opposed to literally everybody else.
>>23791912Courtship of Princess Leia and Young Jedi Knights were pretty cool.Even if one was Gloriously Cheesy and the other was written by Mr. Superweapon himself.
>>23791930>supported slavery....I....I want some of whatever she's smoking.Though, to be honest the way that characters tend to react to clones is like racism. Maybe it's just the idea that you can just copy a person and suddenly they're not an individual anymore.
>>23791913This image is for you, bro.>>23791930Clone Wars is one of those things that I had a better headcanon for than the source, so I integrate some things (I like the noble falling thing Anakin had, I dislike the 'I'm a creepy seven year old stalker who dreamed we'll be together and have babies!' thing).>>23791933YJK was really entertaining. Plus delicious Tenel Ka. It also gave us some good stuff about normals using lightsabers (IE: why you don't do it, and if you do, you have to enhance your shit somehow, like Anja did with Andriss spice).
>>23791953Which honestly doesn't jibe with some EU canon anyway, what with that planet of nothing but clones (and one single line who manifested Force powers in his 85th generation and all afterwards).
>>23791870>people who could hold their own against JediMain reason I like the Mandos, tbh. >>23792123I... kinda see what they were going for with the whole 'Jacen becomes a Sith Lord' plotline, but it was still badly handled, I think. If they could have redeemed him at the end rather than what happened, it would have been better, I think.
>>23792123well...>>23792047here. >>23793040>Wait, is it some weird parallel to us and our world?Explain the thinking on that one, sentient.
>>23793040>So their planet was right?Yes.>Wait, is it some weird parallel to us and our world?I -think- so, but I'm not sure. The War ends when the seedling the planet spat out before its death finds the Vong and forgives them, returning them to the Force.
>>23793072> the seedling the planet spat out before its death finds the Vong and forgives them, returning them to the Force.Aw, fuck this. I want my Imperial superweapons back.
>>23793040Technically they were. They waged war against sentient droids (the Selenium and something else, the Great Heep is one of them), razing many planets in their galaxy. Then, they went on a 'let's kill and conquer everything'.
>>23793088I don't recall them regaining their Force connection, just giving up their galaxy-conquering. Them not being Force-sensitive is a plot point in Legacy, still.
>>23793088That part actually wasn't so bad. I mean it was Zenoma Sekot, so it was pretty established. And the real end of the war was Jacen killing Onimi, which -was- pretty bad.
>>23793124>I don't recall them regaining their Force connection, just giving up their galaxy-conquering. Them not being Force-sensitive is a plot point in Legacy, still.Oh, well fuck, sorry. Never read Legacy and the other EU stuff fucking never touches on them again.Need to go pick that up I guess.
>>23793146No big, man. I just wondered if I missed that or was just mis-remembering. The Vong are pretty much the galaxy's bitches in Legacy; they reformed, and at the behest of a Skywalker and the Jedi they try to un-Vongform the worlds they fucked up, as well as agriculture stuff with shaping. It works for a while. And then it backfires and turns into more Vongforming, which makes it look like they're trying to take over again. Sith sabotage with a CRAAAAAZY Master Shaper is fun stuff.
>>23793188When i read Legacy , i really thought the idea of a pacified world brain on couruscant had potential , but it never went anywhere did it?
>>23793235It's dead. During Fate of the Jedi, someone is trying to assassinate Jacen and it gets killed in the crossfire of the assassination, IIRC.
>>23792402Yeah, I can agree with that. I only acknowledge I, Jedi for two reasons.Clutches are bitchin' as fuck.Jensaarai are cool as shit. Also love me some two-stage 'sabers, but those are in other stuff so I, Jedi is not necessary for them.
>>23792378>parallels to Anakin's fallWhich was poorly written and executed.I also think that if he absolutely HAD to be evil, then he should have gotten redemption like so many other evil characters.
>>23792455Armageddon outta here.I also like the Armageddon movie, though it was silly.>>23792546Reading and people won't stop bothering me.
>>23793390Yeah; like I said, I thought that redemption would have been a better thing than death. Also, HMM. Looks like the newest Legacy comics have a Solo as the main character. Perhaps Alana's grandchild, since it's stated as Han and Leia's great-great grandchild.
>>23792620We know he's amazing. Don't need to say it again.
>>23792769You'd think that he'd KNOW what his dad thought was right, given that Daddy said to "Trust your feelings" and Corran's feelings tend towards light side.
>>23792569>They blew it up!You MANIACS! You blew it up! You blew it all up!Damn dirty lizards.
>>23791272I remember those, and still have them somewhere. They were unbelievably shitty.Every other book (there were six) was some sort of environmental message. There was one about why the empire shouldn't hunt sentient force whales on mon calamari. There was one (the one with the kid in the robot city, or the one after dealing with the same plot) where trioculus was burning the entire forest planet down looking for the kid. There was Jabba's grandfather zorbo, who had a beard (which looking back, is better than Jabba's gay purple cousin from the shitty CG show) and the writers (a husband/ wide team) tried to marry Leia and Han until they got a cease and decist from actual competent writers. There was also a secret council of imperial wizards who judged trioculus' birthright, which he cheated by using sonic implants in his fingers to knock people out or something like that. And it was NOT the series with the bunny Jedi master, that had to do with Luke skywalker's kids being trained as Jedi. The only book I remember from that series was one with sentient spider monsters and had a giant black snake on the cover.Speaking of shitty Star Wars series, does anyone remember galaxy of fear? It was a horror series set in the Star Wars universe. The book I read was about an evil mynock that are people on an ithorian herdship or something like that.
>>23793273Folks hereabouts been sufficiently schooled about Villie, then? My work here is done.
>>23785991Gotta agree with this. Corran and Bror Jace are both start out as Top Gun characters who stumbled into Star Wars.
>>23793589Luke didn't have any kids until after Ikrit was dead; if you mean YJK, Ikrit wasn't in that. He was in the books that had Anakin and Tahiri, which I think were the Junior Jedi Knights (I thought these were them, but I might be wrong).
>>23792944Villie is best bounty hunter
>>23793628One of the Wraiths was explicitly based on Maverick, IIRC.
>>23793671Yes.Junior Jedi Knights was Anakin. Young Jedi Knights was Jaina and Jacen.
>>23792750>>23792789>>23792807>>23792821This comic is amazing and you should feel amazing for posting it.
>>23793727>Young Jedi Knights was Jaina and Jacen. And was pretty good, all in all. Not great, but decent enough. Kinda makes me sad that Raynar Thul never got to do much outside that series. No, the Dark Nest trilogy DID NOT happen.
>>23792944I love you.
>>23792966Which doesn't make sense to me.How do you cut off someone ELSE'S Force connection? Even if it IS a planet, the Force is literally everywhere and so you'd get it even if the planet decided to unhook the phoneline so to speak.
>>23793825Ask the Jedi Exile from KOTOR 2.
>>23793384Basically I, Jedi is full of great stuff as long as you ignore the actual novel.
>>23793384I, Jedi and Shadows of the Empire gave me a wonderful look into how lightsabers are actually made.>lol just author interpretationStackpole and whoever wrote Shadows had a very similar idea if Stackpole didn't directly draw on what was in Shadows."The best lightsabers have three crystals to create a fully customizable blade."That's from Obi-Wan's book-o-Force-learnin' that was in his house on Tatooine.Speaking of the book, it never shows up again. You'd think with an artifact like that (an actual fucking BOOK with PAPER), Luke wouldn't need to go Indiana Jones artifact hunting.
>>23793441I'm still not reading it. I'm not saying I think it's bad, it's just not seeming to be my thing based on the glimpses I get from word of mouth and individual pages.
>>23793825>How do you cut off someone ELSE'S Force connection? Even if it IS a planet, the Force is literally everywhere and so you'd get it even if the planet decided to unhook the phoneline so to speak. The planet is retardedly force strong. I mean even the seedling, Zenoma Sekot, is insanely strong in the Force.Certain events of great significance and power can sever the force.
>>23793727Which were all Han and Leia's kids.Luke has Ben, unless you derped and were saying Skywalker family youngin's.
>>23793889>Stackpole didn't directly draw on what was in Shadows. It's fair to say he did, considering the first half of I, Jedi could safely be described as self-insert fanfic of the Jedi Academy books.
>>23793825Also, a planet from another galaxy. The rules may not apply there. Plus, there's examples of Force stripping as a punishment in some EU, IIRC. It's not outside the realm of possibility.
>>23793841Never played KOTOR and don't really care to.I don't really care how good it is, I don't feel like playing it.
>>23793945Most people would say 'fix-fic', but details details.I actually kind of liked the Academy stuff because it gives Luke the dressing down he needed after all the retardedness in the actual Academy trilogy.
>>23793841Actually, that trick (Force Sever) predates KotOR by almost a decade. It was first mentioned as possible in Tales of the Jedi: The Sith War 1: Edge of the Whirlwind, and first used 4 issues later by Nomi Sunrider, to sever Ulic Qel-Droma's connection to the Force. And as used there it basically just makes a Force-sensitive individual no longer Force-sensitive, so it's not the same bullshit as the "explanation" for the Vong.
>>23793841Actually, it's pointed out that Jedi Exile didn't have her force cut, she cut herself off in the face of the backlash and became a living wound, which was a problem cus she was also really good at Force Bonds.Basically, she became a force black hole.
>>23794017It is sort of implied in one the role-playing books that it has nothing to do with actually severing their force and more to do with making them think you have, like the supreme mind trick. Given there are guys that can trick you into believing you are on fire and you'll believe it, not entirely surprising.
>>23793956The sheer amount of stubborn "nope, not reading/watching/playing that" ITT is beginning to seem unreal. Dude, I'm not trying to sell you on these products, I'm using what was established in them to make various points. If you haven't played it, why not get thee hence to Wookeepedia and start reading?
>>23794017Forgot about that one.>>23794024Again, forgot about that. Good catch.
>>23793988Yeah...and it's Corran who delivers it, correct?
>>23794037I have a feeling that's mostly me.I am very leery of newer Star Wars things. I should really get over it and I have been convinced to pick up Republic Commando even if it contains full metal feels. But once I gleefully devoured anything Star Ware which is why I remember that Prince of the Jedi crap, I am much more wary now.>>23794059Yes, yes. I know, I know. But Michael was still right.
Vilmarh "Villie' Grahrk. Luckiest sonofabitch in the galaxy, I love him.
>>23794167That story dump made me want to go out and find some more comics of him and other Star Wars characters.
>>23794087Do what I do, mate - recognise that while the stuff you enjoyed as a youth was great, the franchise has moved on. But the best part? It's moved in all kinds of different directions, as previously demonstrated with Dark Empire and Villie's story. There are different types of stories for different fans, it's just a matter of identifying which sounds like it might be your bag. Despite the whole thing about "read it, now it's real", it's good to try new stuff, because a different sense of perspective will help you realise that the new stuff (new movies aside) doesn't invalidate all of your favourites. They're still there, Zinsj, the Hapans and the rest. They just exist as part of a larger whole in that galaxy far, far away, and there's plenty left to discover and enjoy. The franchise always left me with a feeling of wanderlust, of wanting to experience the joy of exploration, sure in the knowledge that there would always be more to discover and appreciate on its own merits.Say you discover something unpalatable, for whatever reason? Don't worry about it, they're only stories. At the end of the day, it's your experience, no-one can tell you how to enjoy it or what exactly did and didn't happen; I just think you could stand to branch out a little more and see what new wonders await you. And as eople sometimes forget, instilling a sense of wonder is what Star Wars should be all about.
>>23793945>first half of I, Jedi could safely be described as self-insert fanfic of the Jedi Academy booksExcept it was far better than "Female Imperial Admiral silly adventures"?Seriously, Daala competes with Jar Jar Binks as worst Star Wars character ever made.
Han solo is better than every one. Who else can do the kessel run in 12 parsecs, knowbody that's who.
>>23794331I do hear that there's some detective noir Star Wars books... could be interesting...I still want to see more HIGH ADVENTURE books like the ones I remember.
>>23785512>Implying I, Jedi isn't shit.Wedge is the best pilot though hands down.
>>23794404Yup. He can pilot anything and if I recall correctly, he managed to create an ambush with a Super Star Destroyer. It's like he's some kind of tactical ge-ANTILLEEEEEEES!
>>23794373>Who else can do the kessel run in 12 parsecsOh hey there.
>>23794442Yes, Random Extra Man! You too can have an extensive backstory despite only having thirty seconds of screentime!I'm not complaining, I'm a bit amazed, really. I guess it's because of the twenty years between trilogies and they needed something to do.
>>23785148It's been years since I read any Star Wars books, but I seem to remember at some point Wedge beating Fel one on one. Might have happened more than once, actually, I have distant memories of that being in a comic, too.
>>23794372>DaalaOh god, that bitch was afwul even in her first appearance. And how they got the idea to make galaxy-known war criminal as Republic Chief of State is still beyond me.
>>23794490It amuses me greatly that in the book Death Star she is both an ARMY officer and suffers brain damage.Amazing save there, boys.
>best pilot>nobody mentions the man who destroyed the ExecutorShame on you, /tg/!
>>23794373>Han SoloHe's a man. He's JUST a man.And I've had so many men before, in oh so many ways. He's just one more.
>>23794490>Chief of State DaalaPlz no
>>23794528Mary Magdalene? What the fuck are YOU doing in a Star Wars thread?
>>23794530Oh yes.Yes, this is a thing. I didn't read any of that shit, but she was elected Chief of State of the Galagtic Whatever Government of the Hour. And she exiled Luke Skywalker for being a nasty Jedi person.Him and his little son, too!
>>23794404But "I, Jedi" fully supported Wedge being best. And Corran was also ranking himself below Tycho.
>>23794399>noirThat would be Coruscant Nights.>HIGH ADVENTURE Gonna say it again - anything John Ostrander writes. Republic (now forever known as The Adventures of Villie and his Amazing Jedi Friends) and Legacy are all one huge story spanning 100+ years with fantastic art, great characters and new concepts that IN NO WAY invalidate anything that came before it. He's recently done the second arc of Agent of the Empire - straight-up James Bond-type Imperial Intel officer during the rise of the Empire. Get the to Google and see what else he's done. Also:Knights of the Old Republic, 40+ issues of some of the funniest and best SW adventures you'll ever read, requiring very little knowledge of the games. Which are also awesome. Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison/Darth Vader and the Lost Command - two 5-issue minis chock full of feels. Again, all done with respect to the source material. And quite a few more...There are a few to avoid like the fucking plague - Dark Empire and Crimson Empire (no relation) come to mind, but hey - that's exploration for ya :)
>>23794530You think that's bad. Wait til you read about the wacky Force Adventures of Luke and Ben. The EU is in a bit of a slump right now.
>>23794545The question is what am I NOT doing.
>>23794464Hey, he had his short story in "Mos Eisley Cantina Stories" and even some comic books.
>>23794555LEGACY OF THE FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORCE!
>>23794524Trury he is the most honorabru pirot in arr of the Reberrion.
>>23794557Nevermind. I thought I, Jedi was done by that shit ball of an author Kevin Anderson. This was the Corran Horn book and Stackpole is good.
>>23794557He also almost got his ass handed to him by Tycho and only barely escaped.>>23794558Coruscant Nights, right. I'll look that up.>Republic>High Adventure>More VillieI... I must... I NEED to read them.>Crimson EmpireAnon... I have an confession to make....My college library had a big paperback edition of Crimson Empire. I thought it was mediocre and the art was pretty laughable. I barely remember the story now.
>>23794524Well, there is also young Pash Cracken, if we talk about A-Wing pilots.
>>23794560Eh. I liked the whole 'Jedi techniques are not the ONLY Force techniques in the galaxy' aspect of that. Plus they were tracking around what Jacen had learned on his adventures to becoming Darth Caedus.
>>23794490The Republic was far too centralized for its scope to be an effective government in the first place. You expected some modicum of competence?
>>23794558>Avoiding Crimson Empire>Implying Kir Kanos is the baddest badass in the Imperial Army.I don't think so.
>>23794642Thing is that "Jedi techniques are not the ONLY Force techniques" has been done before. And done way better.http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Force#Organized_Force_traditions

>>23794512You mean the book with 500 X-wings attacking first Death Star?
>>23794671Just looking at that wiki list I see most of the stuff that Jacen had visited during his galaxy quest like the Mind Walkers and the Aang-Tii Monks. I don't get why having them shown in a novel is a bad thing.

>>23794718Mostly because they existed before, and thus exist WITHOUT, the retardation that is the rest of that series.
>>23794659Kir's cool, true enough, it's just that the comic he appears in sucks rotting Saarlacc balls. And anon has already read it and found it wanting, so no problem.Oh, almost forgot - something a touch light-hearted: Underworld: the Yavin Vassilika. Just a bit of fluffy fun, another crime caper, but worth the look.Pic unrelated but awesome.
>>23794643But seriously, it would be like Hitler resurfacing suddenly in 60ties and United States electing him to the office of the President.Shit made no sense, just like woman herself.
>>23794706>500 X-wingsUm, no? I just reread the section in question and it says 'thirty Rebel ships' just like the movie.
>>23794751Clap your paws rancorn, clap!
>>23794755>implying Daala is as competent as ol' AdolfDon't forget, he got people to like him by saving Germany from a CRIPPLING economic depression caused by the Treaty of Versailles.

>>23794625>I NEED to read themYes...yes you do. Fair warning: it starts a little slow, there'll be one character concept at the start you may find offensive to the sensibilities a Tusken Jedi, but once Ostrander warms up the run he swiftly and painlessly retcons out the offensive - then the awesome truly begins and doesn't let up for an ungodly number of issues.>confessionDe nada, I read them too, including the third one (released 12 years later). It wasn't an improvement.
>>23794829>Did anybody read the Dark Forces novellas/graphic novels?YES! AND THEY WERE FUCKING AWESOME! Seriously, Soldier For The Empire is on my "you must read this shit" list for my Star Wars RPG (the old WEG d6 one) group.

>>23794866I... I REALLY like this cover.
>>23794866>that spoilerIs it A'Sharad Hett?Because A'Sharad is a badass mofo. And not, TECHNICALLY a Tusken. Humans and Tuskens can't actually interbreed, he's just a human raised by Tuskens.
>>23794903Or rather his MOTHER was raised by Tuskens, but not one herself. My mistake.
>>23794859I've read about her "Chief of State" gig before reading those books, and decided it was not worth it. I want to protect those remains of sanity I have still left.
>>23794903Yup, and that would be the retcon. Let's say no more for the sake of the anon who sounds like he's warming to the notion of experiencing all of this for the first time.
>>23794875YES! YES, SOMEONE ELSE REMEMBERS!Oh god I loved them. They're on my list of things to buy when I have monies, I will also get copies of Thrawn trilogy and Hand of Thrawn which have the original artwork.Did you know that there's an audio drama of Dark Forces as well? I haven't been able to *acquire* it. Does anyone know if they're any good?
>>23794859With money that he never intended to pay back. Read his book with a healthy scrutiny. Hell, there's a lot of modern politicians using rhetorical strategies he outlined in there. You're just a conspiracy theorist if you point it out, though.
>>23794929It's like my childhood is here again.Anon... anon, the healing, can you feel it?I can feel it. I feel the Force flowing through me.Mercy Kill didn't heal me like it should have, but that doesn't matter now.
>>23794859Hey, you remember how she gassed all those Moffs? Fun times. No, not really. Kevin J. Anderson should have his special place in hell for writing those books
>>23794877I dunno doesn't seem that bad. I mean, maybe I'm bias because Steve Perry wrote my favorite Star Wars novel (Shadows of the Empire) and I've been jaded by the drivel written by Kevin Anderson and Karen Traviss.
>>23794974Except for Young Jedi Knights because it was surprisingly good.Surprisingly good, even with the Very Special Episode about drugs.
>>23794972>get people on board with glorious Villie>reignite love for franchise in heart of jaded anonIt's been a good night.
>>23794928Fate of the Jedi is actually pretty good because it spends a lot of time retconning out the shit from Legacy of the Force. Daala turns out to be an utterly incompetent leader (like always), and the Mandalorians are portrayed as massive assholes.
>>23795046Isn't that because Karen Traviss dropped out of the ménage à trois?
> See this thread> Other nerds nerding out over the joys of the X-wing books (and comics, and games, and associated novels like I, Jedi)/tg/, I think I love you
>>23795080I love you too.All of the homo
>>23795046But have they retconned away lolevilJacen yet?Because that shit pisses me off.Jacen was a fucking bro, god dammit! But they just HAD to go and make him turn evil for no good reason.
>>23795030Death Star is nowhere near "Shadows of Empire level. And please, 500 X-Wings?I'm not sure If Rebels had that many in their whole fleet around 0 BBY.Their main base on Yavin IV had like, around 30?
>>23795105They can't quite retcon that after his death, sadly.
>>23795107Yeah; aren't X-Wings retardedly expensive around that time, and why they used cheapass B-Wing, and A-Wings later?
>>23795107Let's be honest here though. The reason Yavin had 30 was because that was all the models Lucas could afford and all he could film without it getting too confusing. Who the fuck tries to overthrow an empire with 30 rebels.
>>23795105Well, they encounter Jacen's Force ghost, and he pretty much admits he acted like a massive asshole and doesn't expect redemption, but he had his reasons. It's implied he did what he did to ensure the True Sith didn't take over the galaxy.
>>23795124Like they've never retconned a death before.>From a certain point of view.
>>23795107Wasn't it close to a 50/50 spilt on Y-Wings to X-Wings?And they lost most of those ships.>>23795105Be like me; never read them! Well, actually it's too late for you.Maybe you should go live in Egypt and imagine Jacen and Tenel Ka having glorious Amazon Jedi sex.>>23795124Yes they can, by having Star Wars 7 initiating Landfall and destroying Nir-... sorry, that's Elder Scrolls.>>23795137>B-Wings>A-Wings>cheapNo, no they were not.Around Return, A-Wings were basically hand crafted. Expensive as fuck.
>>23795156Probably because that's decently early in the Rebel development? I mean, they didn't expect to immediately have to spacefight the Death Star.
>>23795137They mainly used Y-Wings. By the time RotJ rolled around, the Alliance had enough resources to start buying up X-Wings in bulk. The B-Wings were mainly to replace Y-Wings and A-Wings were the Alliance's answer to Interceptors.
>>23795105Well, the death of Anakin Solo was also stupid and pointless.I end my personal canon with Pellaeon–Gavrisom Treaty.Everything after that tends to kill or hurt my favourite characters and pull some incredibly stupid ideas from ass.
>>23795169I may have the expense costs backwards, then. >>23795161... fat lot of good THAT fucking move did.
>>23795161So wait wait wait. . .JACEN doesn't get redemption, but DARTH FUCKING VADER got redemption?FUCK! THAT!Seriously, Force Sever his ass and let him EARN HIS FUCKING REDEMPTION!It worked with Ulic, why the FUCK can't it work with Jacen?! Oh. Right. They hate my childhood.
>>23795171>So I go and I join the rebellion>Shit's pretty cash; snazzy helmet, cool vest>Fuckin' Death Star outta nowhereFML
>>23795208That's what you get for being a terrorist.
>>23795186From what I heard, it was originally intended for Jacen to die during the Vong war, and it would be Anakin Jr. who would fall to the dark side later on, but Lucas stepped in and forced the writers to switch them because he thought the readers would get Anakin Solo confused with Anakin Skywalker.
>>23795137>cheapass B-Wing, and A-WingsI think you meant Y-wing.X-Wing is cheaper and more universal than both B-Wing and A-Wing. That's why they were used for so long.
>>23795208The guy on the ground? First day on the job, no doubt.
>>23795186Anon... Anon....Young Jedi Knights is technically after the Treaty>pic is your face when

>>23795229Fuck you, Imperial cunt!At least my helmet let's me see AND shoot strait!
>>23795169>actually it's too late for you.Actually, I dropped Legacy of the Force like a bag of hammers after they killed off Mara. But yeah, I choose to ignore it, and thus have to ignore everything AFTER it, just so I can imagine hot Amazon Jedi dickings. And one-quarter Corellian/one-quarter Dathomiri/one-quarter Hapan/one-quarter Alderaanian babies.>Around Return, A-Wings were basically hand crafted. Expensive as fuck.Hell, the one Tycho was flying during the attack on DS2? It had hardwood paneling in the cockpit. Classy as fuck.
>>23795242Not that guy, but I stopped just before the Swarm War and picked up again at Legacy (comic).
If there was no Force, wouldn't everyone apart from the Vong suddenly become a shittier pilot?I'm under the impression that settings with shit like the Warp and the Force and Magic and such have integrated into the very nature of the universe.
>>23795260Me and my friend would often joke that Jacen should be sentenced the worst punishment possible.Be a stay at home dad.
>>23795271>stopped just before the Swarm WarYou lucky bastard.Dark Nest sucked like a Nar Shaddaa hooker.
Any of you who haven't read Aaron Allstons's X-Wing books (the ones about Wraith Squadron) really need to go do so, it's some of the most entertaining star wars EU stuff out there.Long story short is Wedge Antilles takes a break from running Rogue Squadron to make a X-wing pilot / commando squad out of a bunch of screwups and weirdos. They fly around and pretend to be pirates and blow stuff up and it's hilarious and awesome.Seriously, Allston's books are the funniest Star Wars books by far, while still having some fantastic character development and some really good serious moments. If you need more convincing, this is the book series that includes Wedge Antilles having to impersonate a homicidal Ewok pilot.
>>23795253Well, no need to ship them, they are an official couple. They even have adorable little daughter Alana (being raised as Amelia Solo), though I wonder if her 'Light Side Queen' vision will ever come to pass in the novels. Hell, saving Alana was Jacen's one, true, last 'Light Side' act while he was trying to murder his sister.
>>23795276There are plenty of pilots in SW that don't have Force Sensitivity.
>>23795285>implying being Tenel Ka's royal consort wouldn't be the most awesome punishment ever>implying pre-character-derailment Jacen wouldn't be the greatest dad everAnd the Force help anyone who would try to hurt their children.
>>23795230I heard that too, and it was that moment when I decided shit is getting tooo retarded.Daala as Chief of State and Lucas later antics proved me correct.>>23795242Honestly, I can live without Young Jedi Knights. I know, Tenel Ka was hot, but some of their stuff was mighty silly.
>>23795260>killed off MaraI didn't read Sacrifice, but that fact still makes me mad.>Former assassin who is still highly competent>JEDI GODDAMN MASTER>Close and unarmed combat EXPERT>Killed by a kid pretending to be a Sith LordWat.>wood panelingI know, man. I would pay money to get a picture of Tycho with a big cigar and a classy suit. Classy ass mother.
>>23795288>Wedge Antilles having to impersonate a homicidal Ewok pilot.>impersonate>implying Kettch wasn't real>implying Kettch isn't still flying around the galaxy kicking ass and taking names for creds
>>23795288Have read. The part were the Wraiths bluff through Imperial customs disguised as rednecks was one of the funniest EU moments to date.>Brriiiiiiiiides....I know these pics are totally unrelated, I'm just posting them because they look awesome.
>>23795307This is exactly why I wish Jacen hadn't went evil. Dad!Jacen would have been fucking EPIC.>TFW your high school SW fanfic of Tenel Ka/Jacen as Jedi Masters is nowhere to be found>TFW you feel your writing was better than what got published
>>23795288I was recently invited to join an Eclipse Phase game...I based my character around "How much like a member of Wraith Squadron can I make this character?"Venusian Drifter with lots of piloting related skills and a ludicrously high Demolitions skill.
>>23795259What can I say? The Kaminoans do shit work, every one of those vatbabies have terrible arthritis, and the helmet wouldn't be hard to see out of if you could find the power switch for the softscreen.
>>23795288>Read X-WingToo late man. YEARS too late. Why don't you go PLAY X-wing? You DO still have your cd/floppy disc, right?>>23795307>Force help anyone who would try to hurt their children.Entire Hapan ArmyUncle Luke and his wifeHan, Leia, ChewieThe goddamn NoghriWinterProbably Rogue Squadron because they are bros. You's fucked.
>>23795313Well, he DID fuck with her head with Force Illusions of Ben. And he even said later that if that hadn't worked, he'd have lost. Mara made Jacen work for that kill.
>>23795338I love that Kettch goes from joke to running joke to impersonation/puppet show to actually existing. Lara's response in the third Wraith Squadron book when she finds Zsinj's lab is one of my favourite moments.
>>23795361>Chewieuh...isn't he like a mile wide and 3mm thick at that stage?
>>23795289I stopped reading after Anakin Solo death.I know they of later development, but decided all that shit (Jacen going dark, Daala, more Vongs) wasn't worth reading.
>>23795361Pretty sure Wedge would drag the Wraiths in on that shit too.
>>23795386>Trying to make me remember books I haven't readHa! The jokes on YOU! I didn't touch the anything after the Hand of Thrawn after reading three pages of Dark Tide 1!
>>23795409It was too goddamn dark, full stop. It wasn't high adventure, it was fucking torture.
>>23795345That one, Face's fake plan to become travelling minstrels and mimes to get Zsinj's attention, and the part in the most recent book where Kirney keeps repeating to Piggy "You will not recruit my children" are probably my three favourites for funny moments.
>>23795345>>23795288I loved the part with two intellectual stormtroopers playing strategic wargame in their minds.
>>23795366I'm still mad. I am still SO mad. I know that I, Jedi is maligned around here, but when Corran did his Vision of the Rock, Luke saw through it almost immediately.Hard to believe that he wouldn't have taught his wife that.>>23795462And they DIDN'T die! Shit was SO cash.
Hey guys, hate to burst in here, but is the Han Solo Trilogy any good?http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Han_Solo_TrilogyI'm considering grabbing them, but as a fan of the old Han Solo Adventures books, I don't wanna get burned.
>>23795410Oh no, Wraith Squadron would have already been in the middle of it pretending to help. Then the Task Force of Family shows up there's just Face, Kel, Piggy, and the gang sitting with the kids going "What took you so long?"
>>23795426>Bunch of teens wade through living nightmare for whole book, and then one of the MC dies, leaving everyone mentally scarred. Including the readerWell no shit.
>>23795519I think I read them in high school and remember them being 'entertaining' but not super-great.
>>23795519>Han Solo AdventuresSo THAT'S what they were called! Thanks Anon, been trying to remember forever. As for the Trilogy... eh, they're decent.
>>23795519I liked them. What are the old Han Solo Adventure books? I know they specifically worked in spaces in the HS Trilogy for the REALLY old Star Wars Han Solo books (that came out back when the movies first came out?) to fit in. That what you're referring to?
>>23795462Reading that part I chuckled almost as hard as Wedge in the book.
Is it terrible that I'd love to have novelizations of Star Wars: Droids-style '18 years leading up to Ep IV' shenanigans?
>>23795551The ones where Han's off in the Corporate Sector essentially doing Shadowrun in Star Wars.http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Han_Solo_Adventures
>>23795519Mediocre.Nowhere near Zahn, Stackpole or Allison level, but also not too bad.And Han gets a girl in every book.
>>23795299But, they're living beings. If the Force is a thing, then all living things are faintly force-sensitive. I'm being obstructively literal here, but that means that normal human functioning incorporates force shit. Creatures in some region that's somehow force-dead would...have shittier reaction times, be easier to sneak up on, and feel less emotionally connected to other people.
>>23795288To turn this even more /tg/ for a moment, Aaron Allston actually wrote a bunch of 2nd Edition D&D supplements back in the day, and a bunch of stuff for a pile other RPGs in the 80s/90s (GURPS, Champions, Paranoia...)http://www.aaronallston.com/factpages/cred_games.html
>>23795594Ah, wait.I was reffering to this books:>>23795576Han Solo trilogy was quite good.
>>23795594>Han gets a girl in every book. You expected otherwise? It's Han "Deep-Fried-In-Vag-Butter" Solo, for Vader's sake.
>>23795613>Autoduel ChampionsThat sounds hardcore.
>>23795519I also googled up Han Solo Adventures.Someone's making an adventure game in the style of Fate of Atlantis for Han Solo. But there's bad news:>Site hasn't updated since summer of last year>Itmustberaining.jpg>>23795613That only cements the reason as to why Wraith Squadron acts like a bunch of PCs.
>>23795634>Han "Deep-Fried-In-Vag-Butter" Solo
>>23795613>he wrote The Complete Ninja's HandbookThat's the one that's basically an entire book of ninja jokes as rules, right? I love that book.
>>23795613>nothing for the old WEG d6 Star Wars RPGDamn.
>>23795721Judging by Wraith Squadron, that is 100% his style
>>23795613>wrote stuff for Paranoia and Ghostbusters as well as a shitton of D&D suppliments
>>23795036I forgot to say this earlier; but thank you.I mean that, I really do. I might have found this stuff eventually but you helped me now and that matters.
>>23795358And since you can't see out your damn helmets, you get people sneaking around your bases all the time. And that's when you get fooled by a Wookie in an AT-ST.
>>23795808More than welcome, anon.
>>23795171The Rebellion had been around for nearly a year and they had the Mon Calamari Shipyard already backing them. I think it's safe to assume that the forces on Yavin were a small contingent of the total rebel forces. You can't tell me that the rebel fleet consisted of only 30 x/y wings.
So I know that most Star Wars fans hate TFU but I have to admit, both of the books were fantastic reads.
>>23796151This is the only thing I think of when I hear about The Force Unleashed.
