With more talking mutants edition.Stalker Quest will be starting in about a half hour. Here are the previous archived threads for newcomers that want to see what the jazz is all about, and for returning players to refresh their memories.I would also like to note, that a snow storm is currently starting up in my area, and that as a result, I may lose power. As always, any questions or ideas, feel free to bring them up, either now, before the game begins, or during. I am more than happy to take suggestions and discuss them with the group, as well. As always, when I call for dice rolls, I will say what to roll. I will average together the numbers of the first three rolls (except in some cases, which I will make note of). Rolls may receive situational modifiers; for instance, if Stitch is treating somebody in the base's infirmary, rather than in the field, all relevant rolls will have a +2 modifier applied to them. Certain NPCs can only do certain tasks (Fixer, for instance, is the only one who can upgrade and repair equipment).
The sun rises as another beautiful morning greets the tiring guardsmen. As usual, Balalaika, accustomed to making do on little sleep, rises at first dawn; just like clockwork. As he goes through his daily routine of checking over his guns, and making sure his suit is well adjusted, he already begins to think about what could be done today. He pops open a can of old sardines that are still somehow good, and enjoys them with a stale half loaf of bread. He recalls that Courier left yesterday to go find Sidorvich's bunker, to buy some ammo. He should be back tomorrow.Ramen left to go to Vainamoinen's farm, and help the old man out, in exchange for knowledge on growing crops and making a rain catcher and purifying system; things which you believe may become quite essential, so far off the beaten path. He should be back tomorrow. As the leader of this group of Dutyer's rises up, he takes a moment to listen to his surroundings; will there be more of the troublesome "Citizens" skulking around, looking to cause trouble?Roll 1d100's, please.

>>23761655Good to see you back. I'm hoping to see a few other familiar faces pop up, too.
>>23761718In the future, it will help to have a more transparent schedule. I don't think everyone knew if you were coming on tonight.

>>23761791I know, and I do apologize for that. My own work schedule can be a chaotic mess at times, but generally speaking, I will always try to be on here 9:30PM, Eastern Standard Time, and get the game officially going around 10:00PM. I think, though, that I will settle into a Monday/Wednesday/Friday posting schedule.
>>23761846Thats good to know, having a schedule for the days of the week is helpful. Im hoping we see Ramen and the rest, they usually show around now.
>>23761878Aye. I'll give it another ten minutes, and then, I will go off the two rolls I have thus far. Hopefully, if they don't show, we'll pick them up along the way. I have such wonders and horrors planned for all of you!
>>23761901This humble instrument quivers in anticipation.
Question: Does the fireball emit rads like in CS, or prevent them like in SoC? Also, I haven't played CoP so I don't know what fireballs do in that, but I guess in context my question is "what the heck does our geiger counter say about our very first artifact?"
As I just drank about seven screwdrivers in celebration of getting out of jury duty, I don't feel confident in my ability to post constructively today. But have a bump anyway.
While we are waiting, a fellow who popped in at last thread made a suggestion. Could we give the damaged Ak74u in storage to Ramen, provided it still functions? And we also should ensure the leg wound from the zombie is properly treated. I gave my word I would bring these up.
>>23762007I'm going off of Shadow of Chernobyl stuff, primarily, though borrowing a bit here and there from the other games. Having said that, this Fireball reduces radiation, but also saps endurance. Also, I will say, that new artifacts of my own devising will eventually make their appearance in this game. Depending on how things go tonight, you guys might even get to see one of them.
>>23762014Thanks, Stalker. Congrats, and may the Zone be kind to you when the hangover hits.>>23762029The AKS-74U is in working condition. Ramen can pick it up when he comes back from Vainamoinen's farm. There wasn't any leg wound from the zombie, it just grabbed the leg; Duty's armor suit is very good against monster claws and the like, so no damage is taken. But, eventually, that armor may need a bit of fixing.

None seem to have eyes, but that does not stop them from fixing the Dutyer's with a dead stare. They bang against the weak walls, but it's fairly ineffective. Still, given enough time, they might actually be able to do some damage."Cold...hunggrrrry...eat, eat..." one of them mutter; many other are making noises, but their words tend to be more inaudible.Looks like it's time to take out the trash. One of them has X-9-B-1 on them. What does it mean? You can see no difference between them.Afterwards, you prepare for a raid. There is a liquor store, which has been heavily looted; you might find something in it, but it is unlikely. There is a furniture store with a bit of furniture and scrap left that could be good to have around. There is a supermarket that didn't look very promising, but then again, your party also got interrupted by a Chimera when checking it out.Who will go out on this raid? Looking around at first, there isn't much to be discovered in the front of the store. Large, cumbersome metal shelving units that would be a real pain to move. However, you find a manager's officer, and a back store room that has some things in it.After picking through and getting rid of dented cans, and things past their expiry date, you are left with the following items of note: (Do note, your team may carry up to 40 weight units of things back to camp with them; for every 5 over this limit, there will be a penalty to combat rolls):>A lockbox with 1,000 roubles in it (roubles are weightless, lockbox is 1 weight)>An old chair (5 weight)>A ledger book (1 weight)>20 cans of assorted goods (vegetables, fruit, even canned meat; weight is 1 per can)> 20 cans of water (should still be potable, 1 weight each)> 12 large metal shelves (15 weight each)> 12 small metal shelves (5 weight each)> 4 four-pack of light bulbs (1 weight each)On one of the walls of the store room is graffiti. Rolled 10>>23764362Shotguns have their safeties off
>>23764376I was going to roll but you got this
>>23764376If only this was an artifact roll
>>23764376>>23764377>>23764378The door opens. Chef fires off a single round, and decapitates the zombie.Sadly, searching through the house only reveals a lot of damaged furniture. At most, you could get maybe six pieces of scrap material to work with (1 weight each).
>>23764429Soon, brother, soon.
>>23764432Take the scrap, search the body.
>>23764432I have to go, I trust you guys to pick decent stuff and make good decisions, so Goodbye.
Rolled 2>>23764429It would've probably been a bubble.
>>23764432Take it.Sorry I'm late my sister had me running round town doing errands.
>>23764432take scrapsearch zombie
>>23764449Good night, fellow Stalker. May the Zone be kind to you.>>23764453Welcome back, friend!
>>23764449I'll try and get an artifact for you.
>>23764448>>23764453>>23764457The zombie has nothing of interest on it. Just some worn out clothing, the same damned barcode the other zombies have (this one is a 'B'), and no eyes. They grab up some of the scrap. They could grab other stuff from the last house, or try their luck with looking through one more. The sky darkens. It looks like rain will start shortly.
>>23764481>>23764496Thank you friends.
>>23764505hunch shoulders get ready for emission
>>23764505Head back, no need to get wet and cold unless your on guard duty. Duty.
>>23764555>That picture>That rollWHAT HAVE YOU DONE.
>>23764505One more house.
>>23764578I shall need 1d20 rolls, then!
Rolled 11>>23764599coming right up
Rolled 1>>23764599Thank god I got rid of that 1
>>23764618why o why
>>23764618Well fuck me sideways
>>23764618WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
>>23764630meant that for>>23764618
>>23764618WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
>>23764618You're cursed, aren't you? You keep this up, you're gonna wind up right next to Martyr!Oh mighty Zone, please, spare this young rookie. He knows not what he does to offend you.>>23764610>>23764616>>23764618The house is barren. You find some toilet paper, which is nice, but that's it.It begins to rain. Stitch and Chef head back, and turn over their meager collection; oh well, you weren't expecting much.Fixer reports that the 'tower', actually just a spot on the roof with junk shelter walls and roof, is done. It is nothing fancy, but should at least provide a tiny bit of defense to anybody stationed in it. It is also high enough up to give a small advantage to watching for trouble, and sniping targets. The scrap pile has been relocated to the south-western corner. It's raining out. Your men would not want to work or go raiding in it, but will if you command it (expect a morale penalty if you do, though). To pass away the early evening, you could:>Fraternize>Have Fixer work on fixing stuff>Other. Write in.
>>23764688is that box on the southern wall a gate?
>>23764688Fraternize.I LOVE flavor. We could send someone over to see if Finnish Gandalf would like to have dinner.
>>23764688Surely we have a musical instrument of some kind, even if we couldn't take our balalaika with us, we must have at least a harmonica to play by the fire on those rainy days
>>23764688Everyone drink vodka and sit around >Fraternizing
>>23764688I really amI say we fraternize. Im sure Fixer is tired of fixing shit
>>23764715>>23764716>>23764725>>23764736>>23764740Voyeur pulls out his trusty harmonica. He's always been one of the quieter lads, but he's a good guy. He pays a nice, steady beat, that mixes well with the pitter-patter of rain. You personally keep an eye on the entrance, but, as other Stalkers start to share stories of their time in the Zone, you decide you should let them know about your own history. You could:>Tell them a story about how you met one of the other Experts (They're your personal friends).>Tell them about some of your first times in the Zone.>Tell them about why and when you joined Duty.>Other. Write in.Note that any option will lead to further options. I am going to give you gents the opportunity to flesh out our main character.
>>23764783>Tell them a story about how you met one of the other Experts Tell them about when you meet Courier, he's you bud.
>>23764783A story about Balilaika's life before the zone. Personally I am hoping for Ex-Spetsnaz, but am interested in what you have in mind.
>>23764783A story on why we joined Duty
>>23764783Let's tell them about that one time we killed a controller with a rusty table leg.It may or may not have happened.
Haha, we may have to roll, gentlemen!
Rolled 1>>23764862I'm rolling a 1d4 to pick one. 1 is Ramen2 is Balalaika3 is Voyeur4 is Anon
>>23764814>>23764862Now that you mentioned I am interested in his life before the zone. I'll change my vote to avoid deadlock.
>>23764880Yay Ramen!Oh no a 1!Ignore >>23764887
>>23764880Yeah, you decide to talk about your friend, Courier. He's a good pal. Besides, he's one of the quieter ones, so you imagine if the others knew a bit about him, it would get people to better get along. You remember, you first met him>In the Rookie Camp>In the Cordon>In the Garbage>When you enlisted in Duty>Other. Write in.
>>23764900In the Garbage during a bandit attack
>>23764900You mention that you joined duty together in a previous thread.,
>>23764900How about on a military raid into the Zone? Most theses Dutyers are ex-mil
>>23764912I like this
>>23764914Good point. I forgot about that. Thank you. Given that...>>23764912I think this would be the best option to go with. You gents alright with that?
>>23764920This. Spetsnaz raid deep into the Zone.
>>23764933Yep fine with me.Can you make Courier look really badass and save his life? It fits my image of him, even though he's lower ranking (in duty) Balalaika respects him as an equal or above.
>>23764972If we are doing this, it would be fitting if Courier was some badass Loner who helps Balalaika out after his Duty patrol gets wiped, or something like that.
>>23764972I think I can do that. I like the silent badass archetype, too.You remember meeting him in the Garbage. You were both Loners back then. You were chilling out in a hangar, with some other Loners, when Bandits came to put the squeeze on you gents. You remember:>Saving Courier's life>Courier saving your life>You both kicking ass>You and Courier barely surviving what turned into an absolute slaughter>Other. Write in.
>>23764996>You and Courier barely surviving what turned into an absolute slaughter
>>23764996Courier saving us
>>23764996>You and Courier barely surviving what turned into an absolute slaughterYeeeeeeees
>>23764996You and Courier barely surviving what turned into an absolute slaughter and Courier saving your life
>>23764996Courier fast talks the bandits.
>>23764993>Courier saving your life>You and Courier barely surviving what turned into an absolute slaughterWhy can't we have both? mexicangirl.jpg
>>23765028Thats what I'm sayin, man
>>23765009>>23765010>>23765012>>23765014You begin to tell everybody the tale of how you met Courier. It was you, Courier, and these five others; you don't really remember their names. You're all just chilling out, getting to know each other, passing a storm by chilling in the hangar, with a nice fire. You were all pretty fresh to the Zone, back then. There was this one guy, playing the guitar, and others just gabbing away; small talk to pass the time away, when all of a sudden, there's a crack--as if thunder-- and the guitarist falls over, blood oozing out of his head. You scramble for cover as you hear the cries of the black leather clad men "Kill the fuckers, men! It's all ours!"Gun fire erupts all around you. You managed to duck into this train car in the hangar. While hiding, you peak out out through the door, your Kalash held close to you. You see Courier hiding across from you, behind a pillar. He's just chilling. The gun fire continues as one Bandit goes running by you; all of a sudden, he falls over, with barely a scream, blood gushing out of his throat, a wild spray of bullets nearly hitting you; you got nicked, but not badly.Gun fire suddenly starts pinging off the train cabin, but you hear more screams, some panicking, running; a couple rounds going off from a shotgun; it's all a whirl, crazy. You remember jumping out and spraying suppressing fire, at one point, pinning two bastards down. You lost sight of Courier, but when you saw the two you had pin down fall over, you knew it had to be him. In the end, the other four Loners died. You and Courier both got pretty beat up, but in the end, there was a full fifteen man group of Bandits dead; probably an entire gang. You guys managed to do so well as a team, you instantly bonded right then and there. You guys were a power house team, and you split the mad dosh from that encounter equally.
Im outta time guys. Be sure to archive! I plan to read the rest first thing tomorrow morning.
>>23765107This is why you trust him so much, so implicitly. They say, the mail always gets through, no matter what; and that's why they call him Courier. The lucky son-of-a-gun always delivers.Everybody is pretty impressed with your story, and with both you and Courier.
>>23765107>>23765120That's a pretty sweet story.>>23765113Goodnight, fall to sleep with this tale of your glorious battle.
>>23765113On that note, I need to get heading to bed, too. Early doctor's appointment. Gotta have a chat with my own version of Stitch, haha.Good night, gents, it has been a priviledge and an honor to run this game for you all. I will be back Wednesday, 10PM EST. Game will run until about 2AM. http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23760749/ Archive is here.
>>23765120>the mail always gets throughOh shit.So does that mean Vainamoinen is George Powhatan?
>>23765181Don't let him drink too much vodka, before you know it you'll be having impromptu knee surgery.
>>23765185Who's that?>>23765200Thanks, bro. May the Zone be kind to you.
>>23765204Hahaha, don't worry bro, I'll keep the Stolichnaya away from him.Good night, gentlemen!! May your raids into the Zone be fruitful, and may the silly Izloms not eat you.
>>23765206Okay, so it was accidental.George Powhatan is a character from the David Brin novel The Postman (which is best known for a meh-at-best Kevin Costner movie adaptation that completely removed two thirds of the book, including everything involving Powhatan). Without spoiling too much, let's just say that Powhatan is a badass, but just wants to be left alone.
Goodnight dear leader.
