Sup /tg/? I have a question for all of you elegan/tg/entlemen.We've seen chapters like the Angry Marines, the Emperor's Nightmare, even such off-key chapters as the Blood Jaguars...But something has occurred to me. While we have such badasses as the Fire Hawks/Legion of the Damned, they constantly bounce back and forth between being dead and being mutated. Yes, they're loyal to the Big E himself, but they're a small force that are bro-tier with the IG, and little else.It has gotten me thinking; at what point do we draw the line between Chaos and Loyalist?Would a Legion, even after being declared traitors or being driven out of the Imperium and hunted by their battle brothers, still share some degree of Loyalty to the Imperium of Man and its cause? Even if, stripped of their title of loyalist to the Imperium, mutated by the warp (or from creation), only able to garner favor to those planets lost and obscured by the warp storms, and they were forced to manufacture and steal whatever wargear they were able? To what end; madness, excommunication, mutation, taint, and unwanted favor by Chaos, would they put up with before they gave in?It is for that reason that I, once, thought to create a chapter of marines using the Chapter creation tables, and then take that chapter, and run it through the Chaos Space Marine table. I feel that, over time, they have become lackluster and flawed, due to only one person's ideas. So, I ask you, /tg/, are you interested in creating a Legion more downtrodden then the Lamenters, more fucked over than the Fire Hawks, and, dare I say it, possibly as either insane or flawed as the forces of Chaos, and yet they still wear the Imperial Aquila with pride? If so, I am ready with the creation tables for both the SMs and CSMs, and await your command. Dubs garner great favor, Trips confirm. Are you up for it?Pic semi-related to the concept.
I'm interested. Proceed.
>>23645181>>23645197Very well then. As I said, I planned to run them through SM and CSM tables, so let's start with the obvious. Why was the chapter founded?
>>23645140Would that character named Cypher, i think, be a good reference to start with?
Rolled 24>>23645213Gonna guess a d100 because ferty key.If suggestions, because orks. Chaos can be cleansed with fire, nids can be exterminated and broken, everyone else dies, but orks keep popping up until you virusbomb the place.
>>23645213perhaps the chapter was warped by chaos, but somehow maintained their sanity, or at least some of it. just enough to know that they still should serve the emprah before they die.
>>23645266The Dark Angels Cypher?Possibly, though think more Lamenters and Legion of the Damned in levels of 'kicked the shit out of'. Now if you mean 'always keeps fucking showing up now matter how many times he's confirmed to be killed' then possibly. It all depends on what they end up being formed as.Speaking of which; dice are subjective to this. If you can give a good reason without having a roll, then we can likely go for it.
>>23645213My interest has been piques. Let's see what's what.
>>23645280d10. My bad. Should have placed that in the post.>>23645290Likely a possibility.
Rolled 60>>23645311That's odd thought I rolled there. Why is there an extra +?
>>23645321>>23645280Going from the 10s, this would suggest either a Strategic Prognostication or a Counter of some kind.Normally, I would suggest Counter for a healthy dose of irony, but Prognostication has my interest. If so, what threat might they have been planned for?
Rolled 1>>23645382that was totally the right field
Rolled 3>>23645362I vote eldar. They're an experiment in out-prognosticating the Eldar. Which is kind've doomed on theory, but we wanted a space marine chapter FUBAR right? >>23645398>>23645409>>23645418Majority confirms for Prognostication. 'spose we can flesh this out later once we get to their enemies (Eldar, Tau, etc.). Noting a vote for the Space El- I mean Eldar, because you, anon, are making sense.Alright. Next; when was the chapter founded? (d100)

>>23645672Salamanders would be intriguing, if only because they have no confirmed successors, what with Black Dragons being mutant dickweeds and all.Not suggesting them because I already have a chapter that was created in part due to the actions of my techmarine, no sir. Not at all.
>>23645700Yes.>>23645705Aye, it would. I don't even think that the /tg/40k setting has any Salamanders successors yet. Also; so far we have... >>23645700 >>23645722...Ultramarines......Let's see some later rolls and ideas before we go on, shall we?

>>23645747No, no; my fault for not listing the dice; I expressly apologize for that. I can't expect people to all have a table pulled up as well and instantly be aware of rolls. On another note; Iron Hands would be intriguing, though I'm partial to Salamanders at this point. Still, being how crazy the Iron Hands are fluff-wise, this would make a bit of sense.
Rolled 27>>23645733Please, something other than smurfs...
>>23645764Sadly, that falls in the 1-50 that makes up the smurf section of the table. I wish I was making this up. Thankfully, no dubs or trips.Do you wish to reroll, good sir?

>>23645805...This is the one thing I dislike about the SM creation table. It's a full 50% chance to land as ultrasmurfs, whether you want them or not.
Eh, just keep with smurfs. Outpredicting the spess elfs seems like something they'd try to do anyway.
>>23645805>>23645820So either Smurfs, Iron Hands, or Dark Angels.Dark Angels could work, considering how paranoid they are; perhaps instrumental in declaring the chapter to be traitors? Iron Hands could relate to their insanity or whatever, and Smurfs...Well, having a succesor of the Ultramarines nearly falling to chaos and being mutated as fuck would certainly be a spit upon them, wouldn't it? I, for one, would find it rather hilarious that the Ultramarines got taken down a peg or two.So, what is the majority ruling, or do we want to let a roll decide?
>>23645862I say a roll, but if not I vote for Smurfs. I also enjoy the idea of this lesson in humility.

This could be interesting as well, but ultimately I leave it to you all to decide on the majority.Or we could do both flawed and altered, if we want to break the table. I'm against it, but considering how badly we plan to fuck them over, it is something of note.Y'know, I almost feel sorry for Roboute, considering that he himself said that the Codex is only a guide, and that actual brains were also needed. Almost.

Rolled 30>>23648551I mean honestly most chapters have crazy shit happen to them. We just happen to have a lot of bad crazy shit with the good.
I think a tragic hero will fit with this chapter. When these guys got horribly corrupted, this Hero of the Chapter, while his brothers went insane and monstrous around him, helped those who could escape while holding the line. He followed, but was cursed twofold than his brothers for his sacrifice, warped and horribly injured, but alive. When asked how he has escaped, he spoke of the Emperor himself coming to his aid. The Emperor told him that The Imperium would grant them forgiveness if they continued to fight the good fight in His name. But they must keep the faith and stay true, or they will be forever lost.He led the Chapter for many years with this vision in mind, with new Librarians being given seniority when seeing a vision of the Emperor (although this mutates them more as well [1d6 on the mutation table?]). But, he was struck down by Ultramarines, before they could even hear his words of wisdom. Many more have begun to lose their sanity after his death.
>>23648523Elaborating on that, we could have the Tac Marine be an Enemy of Chaos for what his Deeds of Legend is (in addition to keeping us the fuck together. Plutarch Varus was a well respected Ultramarine Librarian. After gaining many deeds to his name, removed from official Imperium record in the present millennium, he was instated to teach the Librarians of a newly formed successor. So proud was he, that he took a young pysker named Arminius, who he had been tutoring after saving him from a rebelling world. But, Arminius had been taught in the ways of the warp already and hated the Imperium for declaring Exterminatus on his home. So, when the ship "The Teutoburg" entered the Warp, he called upon his powers to smite the Space Marines. What answered were thousands of demons spewing from his body. It was only through Plutrach's great heroism that any Battle Brothers escaped at all. But in the depths of that accursed vessel, as his body twisted and his mind creaked under the strain, a shining light came through the corridors. It was the Emperor Himself, cleaving through the Daemons with his blade of a hundred miles or more, His very gaze sending the foul beasts fleeing in terror. It was all Plutarch could do to not look away as The God of Mankind smiled down upon him and spoke the words remember by every marine of that lost chapter:"Fear not, son of brave heart and loyal soul. All those that do my work and stay true to my name shall reap their rewards eternal. Go, for through blood, thou shalt earn thy forgiveness."That moment was burned into the mind of Plutarch Varus, the Cursed, until the very moment the bolter rounds cut him down.
>>23649434Yeah. We should finalize a name unless we want to leave the hero's name as intentionally unwritten; perhaps this would be a mark of him being the anonymous epitome of what this chapter's generic Battle Brothers are to be.

No fucking with it.Plutarch was the Hero's 2nd in command, and is now the Chapter Master in the stead of our Hero after his death at the hands of the Ultramarines.Plutarch is a scholar who is always staring off into the distance, trying to plan 12 moves ahead of himself in three different crusades / battles / boarding actions, he rarely goes into action but is always trying to pierce the veil of the future. He managed to not fall despite everything else because he's deeply insightful into the nature of the Space Marine soul, and his philosophies managed to keep his battle-brothers safe as well. His philosophies are, in fact, Plutocracratic in nature. He has also received a vision of the Emperor forgiving them, but only if they still venerate him.Keep in mind that this is all from previous posts.
>>23649480I like this, but I would prefer the saviour of the ship not being the Emperor himself, but Plutarch being the embodiment of his will. "Through blood, we shall earn our forgiveness!" would be an excellent battle cry, as well.

>>23649830>>23649839Perhaps we could name it the Damned Chapter as our "good" title?
>>23649839ya, that is old at this point, lets update it and move to a new thread before all our work is lost
>>23649830>http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.htmlRight. Good. I shall keep this link bookmarked in case I have to leave early. I pray to the Big E I don't. If I do, nobody start a thread and try to continue my work, because I'll just be back on tomorrow to finish what I started. The Stranded Guardsman is not giving up on this pure gold.>>23649830Normally I'd agree, but I do have an idea. You guys can disregard it and we can say Fleet Based if you want. What if we managed to make it to a part of the galaxy later cut off from the rest of the Imperium via Warp Storms, with occasional breaks allowing us to pass through and into the imperium at large. We have a sort of 'haven' to fall back to, and are still able to continue Big E's work.Just an idea.>>23649884yeah, agreed. I'll link in here.
Okay. Thinking about using these for our archive:Name: "Damned Marines I"Description: /tg/ makes a corrupted loyalist offshoot of the Ultrasmurfs with the SM and CSM tables.
>>23649884Well, I'm out for tonight. Make sure to link the old thread in the new one.It has been my pleasure to write the fluff for this Chapter. If I can catch the next one, I will happily write some more.Until next time, Brothers in Redemption!
>>23649917Also put this as thread number 1 in that. I'm making a new one now. After you make it, post here. NOBODY post after this post. Post in the next thread, okay?
