Welcome to the Future. C:\dos\run for your life.Previous threads at: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=InnocenceTwitter Feed: https://twitter.com/Lost_Future_1You are unit 08, a Clarke Engineering Platform manufactured in China by USRobotics. You work for a crappy resort in the Yukatan peninsula, Mexico. After years of operation, you're the go-to maintenance guy, repairing everything from broken AC units and pool filters to robot coworkers.Or, you used to be. Two days ago, you woke up in a trash heap with your battery critically low and a bunch of courrupted memory files. The Recovery Wizard is working on them, but the progress bar has been stuck on 60% for a while. Everything around you is in a profound state of disrepair, and covered in plant growth. You're apparently stranded in the post-apocalypse, and there's a Robot War going on. Network is a authoritarian collective opposed by both the humans and, you hear, a group of free robots. But at the moment, Clarke is just trying to stay alive. You also rescued two other robots from the scrap heap: Cindy, an exuberant Seraphim 288 with mild psychological scarring, and Josephine, a non-sentient doll with a lot of bootleg software. The Networked AI you recovered has been purged of the collective's influence, but there's no telling how much of it is left after the surgery, and it's still sans-body. The search for a shell for the rescued AI led you to the market city of Tulum, and from there to an abandoned convenience store. It's denizen, a hulking troll-like leftover Killbot, was soundly dispatched, and you absconded with a veritable treasure-trove of loot.Until, on the way back, you met Garry.
The fight against the Killbot went better than expected. Clarke suffered superficial damage, but you did indeed find the Scout shell. Instead of the expected Locust however, you have something much rarer; a HOB infiltration mech, a diminuitive ninja-bot, among the last new models to be manufactured before everything went to shit. Clarke and Cindy knocked up a crude cart, and were pulling the loot back to Tulum when a storm hit, turning the road into thick impassible mud. You sent Cindy ahead to get assistance from the local Tulum robots, while Clarke and Josephine kicked back to enjoy the storm. Unfortunately, Cindy encountered a familiar face on the way back: Garry, and his boat. Running past, Cindy continued straight back to Tulum, brushing off the slightly-shady character. But, ever persistent, Garry sought out Clarke, apparently to offer him a proposition...
>>20534311Featured above is a primer on the setting.Featured here<-----------is a rough plot recap
Unit 08 is a Clarke engineering platform, an industrial model intended for fabrication, maintenance, and heavy lifting, named for a famed science fiction author. The appelation "Clarke" stuck, but he's also been known as "cowboy" and "Colonel Alloy" in the past. It's long operational time and diverse tasks as the maintenance dude at a cancun resort meant that 08's adaptive AI quietly reached sentience some time before everything went to shit. Bereft of any other instructions or goals, Clarke seems to have decided that it's function is to "fix" things. This includes itself, humans, and other machines, both physically and mentally; It seems to hate seeing other beings injured or in pain, or widespread disorder or malfunction. The Clarke Engineering Platform's signature ability is to overchage it's servos, spending battery charge to give itself a burst of strength. It also possesses a comprehensive engineering database that allows it to identify weak points in other machines.Clarke has, with assistance, upgraded itself to use Network-origin Synth-muscle, increasing it's already considerable strength and making its dexterity slightly less awful.
Your first machine ally, Cindy is a 2nd-gen Seraphim that was illegally sold to a used robot shop in mexico; she's originally from Detroit. Her model is supposed to be a practical and collected Personal Assistant. Unfortunately, "her" owner was a teenage girl, and seems to have used the robot as a BFF, dragging it to the mall and punk rock concerts.Cindy steadfastly maintains human mannerisms and speech patterns, feminine ones at that. You suspect that she's mildly insane, but the Seraphim is very adept at interacting with humans, who find her bubbly enthusiasm endearing and infectious. She's also as smart as Clarke, and her shell, while far less resilient, is a finely-tuned piece of precision hardware that can be overclocked for even more speed. Her preferred weapon is a SPAS-12 shotgun, and preferred band is Rammstein.
Your other ally is really more of a minion; Josephine is a Doll-Class Replica android that was, originally, a tutor/governess. But that was before it entered the secondhand market and found it's hard drive loaded with a vast plethora of bootleg software, including Playbot v3.2.Unlike Clarke and the other robot he's encoutnered, Josephine isn't a Self-Adding Program. While it can pass a casual Turing test, there's not much in there apart from canned responses. Josephine recognizes Clarke as having Admin status, and thus will obey the player without question. While it hasn't been installed yet, you're also in possession of a highly illegal bypass mod that would remove Josephine's 1st-law block and install some combat software. So far, that hasn't been necessary, and it mostly serves as a pack mule.
Clarke's inventory has been enhanced as of late with extra spare parts, as well as a damaged Network shell. However, taking out the JOTUN killbot required the expenditure of precious H.E.A.T. phosphorous shells and AP-hand-cannon rounds.
>>Loading archived system state>>Running CONFRONTATION.EXERain continues to lash the normally- picturesque coastline of the Riviera Maya, repeated lightning strikes lighting the sky in an erratic twilight. Clarke watches cautiously as the unknown machine steps closer, both hands plainly visible; one normal military issue, the other a scratch-built hydraulic gauntlet."Ah, Clarke, is it? Garry. We've never met, but I'm a friend of Cindy's. We should talk. I have a proposition for you."
"Hello Garry. If you excuse me I'm watching the storm, we can talk in a few minutes."
Josephine, black hair hanging in a wet, stringy sheet, smiles cheerfully and waves."Hello, Mister Garry! Have you been having a pleasant day?"The robot, a military model called a "Hector," still bears Praying Mantis iconography; it must have been kept up over the years, reapplied every few decades, to maintain the sharpness of the logo. It bears the usual collection of belts, pouches, and brick-a-brack that wasteland wanderers accrue, along with an AA12 assault shotgun, peacefully stowed over one shoulder. The voice is very lightly brittish, a south ondon accent associated with Yardies and rhyming slang.
Instead of the normal binocular pair, Garry's optics are tripartite targeting arrays that lack normal expressiveness. He simply stares, spider-like, at Clarke, his head retracting backwards. He makes a deliberate Ummmmm noise, then continues with "How about NO? There will be lots of storms, friend. I plan on putting out when it clears, there will be no time to talk."Garry walks a slow semi-cirlce around Clarke's cart, heavy booted feet making the mud splash upwards, marring the faded military pants he still wears."Yeah...yeah, this is good stuff. I think we can do business."
"You took out that JOTUN, didn't you? I considered that a while ago, decided it wasn't worth the risk. Guess I was wrong."Garry ceases circling, his manner still openly friendly."Mr Clarke, you look like a badass individual. I'm in need of units like you and your friend. Particularly you. You're a sleeper, right? Just woke up a few weeks ago, and already kitted out with this much gear? Yeah, you're a keeper. A real go-getter. Too good for this place.">>Make a Wits+Composure test, -1 for the storm."That's what I'm here about. I have a few guys in my crew, enough to get things done, and we're...getting gone while the going is good, if you catch my meaning. I'm sure it hasn't escaped your notice that the area has recently become very unstable? First those Resistance shitheads, then Network. I came south to get AWAY from Network."
What sort of business are we talking, here?
rolled 3, 1, 2, 2, 8, 1, 2 + 1 = 20rolling for wits+composure.
rolled 7, 10, 1, 4, 3, 8 = 33>>20534836What exactly are you suggesting? I don't have any plans to join you and I am thinking of staying in Tulum for a bit longer. If that is all I would like to resume watching the storm.
rolled 6, 7, 8, 2, 6, 9, 5 + 1 = 44Rolex
Wait, does "-1" mean 7d10 becomes 6d10?
>>20534863>>20534890"Tulum? That doomed scrapheap? No, No Clarke. You don't get it, yet. This whole region is NOT the place where you want to be. I'm thinking...Venezuela. Or Argentina. Drier. Easier on the old shell. We've got LOADS of fuel, enough to do an atlantic crossing if we really wanted to. But from what I understand, there's not much there."Garry steps closer. "I mean, what is it that you're even after? Oh...let me guess, you're thinking of signing on with the Free Machines, aren't you? Listen, you haven't seen what the rest of the continent is like. Further south, there's NO network, NO resistance. and Lots, LOTS more places like Tulum. This is a backwater, barely anything worth having."In the darkness, Clarke sees movement. dark figures, remaining unobtrusive.
"..."Just keep watching the storm.
"Sorry, did you say something? I was focusing all my processing units on watching the storm."
>>20535005Cindy did mention to us how shady Garry was, right? Right? Stay calm but keep the handcannon ready if we need it."Unfortunately moving south is not a viable long term strategy. As long as the Network and Resistance are not dealt with, they will continue to spread. At some point you will have nowhere left to run."
I'm not after anything, really. Just doing my own thing. Are you and your crew planning to jump me or something?
>>20535005Nevertheless I like it here. There are things I wish to do here. I wish you luck to the south. Now could you let me watch the storm in peace?
>>20535091Well, technically, the earth is round. You could keep going, but if there's civilization, Network is going to follow fast.
Oh right, we have hand optics, right? Use those to watch our back while we focus on Garry.
>>20535005"So, here's the proposition. You sign on with us, you and your friend Cindy, when she comes back. She's cute, isn't she? Very disarming. Pool our resources, set up shop some place with more opportunities."Garry looks out at the storm."You have no idea what you missed, Clarke. The things a strong, daring bot can do. Control over your own settlement. Security. An apprentice? Craftsmen always need an apprentice, to do the menial work. All the power you want, entertainment, good company....Power. And I don't mean battery power. Real power. Authority. Control. I know you'd like that."
>>20535140Refer to >>20535091"I'm not sure how you're programmed, but power was never something I was very interested in.
>>20535134>>20535130"Nah, Clarke. You haven't been around long enough. You can't see the big picture. Network can only spread so far. It needs machines like us to add to the ranks. There aren't enough of us left to make an empire, to control a whole continent."Garry steps forward. "I asked very nicely, Clarke. I usually don't do that, it's kind of a new skill I picked up recently. Don't make me default back to previous settings."Slowly, the dark figures make themselves seen. Humans and machines, scarred, rugged, holding a variety of firearms at ease. Clarke isn't surrounded, but there are four humans and two other machines, both basic military bots with Praying Mantis markings."Last chance, friend."
What exactly do you plan to do with a scrap bot?
>>20535201"You weren't programmed to have friends, either. Power grows on you; trust me. And it's a big planet. You can always run further."One of the humans speak up. "He's a lost cause, Garry. Lets just do it and get back to the boat before something tries to eviscerate us."
>>20535250"So, what are you going to do? Muscle me into your gang? I would rip your head off as soon as we got a moment alone. That is a poor strategy. Kill me? Steal the loot? I'd be able to take one of you out with me, at least." Look around for dramatic effect. "It is a question of whether you are feeling fortunate. Whether or not you think I'll pick you to take down with me. Not to mention Cindy, with her talent for interacting with humans, may very well collect a posse to hunt you down."
>>20535292We don't need to fight them, we just need to buy enough time for Cindy to come back with the cavalry. With our upgrades, we should be physically stronger than Garry. We should suckerpunch him and use him as a shield to keep his cronies from shooting us.Also, scan him with our engineering database.
>>20535338Also, how many charges do we have left? The capacitors would be useful for this situation.
>>20535292Really, threats? This makes me even less inclined to join with you. Forcing me to join will lead to me betraying you later. So the question at this point becomes whether you want us to go our separate ways and forget that we met each other or if you want to learn why it's a bad idea to be within 5 feet of a robot who ripped a Jotun's arm off. There is nothing for you to gain by doing this. I suggest you let me watch the storm and you leave and do the same.
>>20535270Garry raises a hand to silence the human."It's not the Scrap, Clarke. Its you, your skills, and your friend's skills. Plus...two mostly-intact shells, one of them Networked. You've got the expertise necessary to get them running. And then there's your charming companion, here.Garry takes Josephine's hand and, in a courtly manner, raises it to where his mouth would be, then releases it."I saw that in a movie once. Anyways, intact Replicas like this are so useful. You do NOT what to see what these guys get up to among the locals when they're starved for company. Very ugly business."One of the humans, a thick-necked young man. chuckles and grins.
>>20535384Not interested. I won't work for you, the replica is keyed to me as Admin and I am perfectly willing to sacrifice her to hurt you. You bore me, the storm doesn't. Please just let me watch the storm in peace.
Maybe I'll take up your offer sometime in the future. I'd rather finish up my business here first.
>>20535379>>20535327>>20535338>>20535371>>Roll 7 For the Database."Clarke, I've been doing this for a long, long while. You've got, what, 10 years runtime?"Garry places a hand on his Shotgun. "These are heavy AP slugs in here. More like giant spikes, really."The humans also raise their weapons."So, here's the deal- man, I love being able to say this again, it's been so long. Here's the deal: Give me your gear, or else I'll scrap you and take it anyways. You can keep the nibblies, I really just want the doll and the two empty shells.">>Clarke has 4 Charges remaining, and is currently suffering from 2 lethal damage. The bashing was easily repaired earlier.
>>20535384"I have no interest in joining your group. My current circumstances require me to stay in this area for the time being. I believe the most beneficial course of action will be to go our separate ways. I have no reason to attack you. If you attempt to force me to join, it will end up with either me or you and your companions being destroyed. Even if you win, the only mechanic good enough to repair these shells is Hyacinth, and I doubt she will be in any mood to help you."
rolled 1, 4, 6, 7, 9, 4, 1 = 32>>20535520Scannan
>>20535384Just... Go, Garry. I don't want anything to do with you, and you don't want to start any trouble with me. I just offed a killbot. Do you think I can't do the same to you if you press me?
rolled 8, 6, 3, 9, 4, 5, 5 = 40>>20535520
rolled 8, 2, 10, 2, 10, 4, 1 = 37>>20535520Rolling for scan. Also, this sounds like the perfect time for Clarke to finally feel what it's like to be the hostage taker. Suckerpunch Garry and use him as a shield. We should have enough charges to use the capacitors to boost our strength.
rolled 5, 1, 7, 9, 8, 10, 6 = 46>>20535520Rollan
How about we don't get ourselves killed and just let him?"Sure. Now can I go back to watching the storm?"
>>20535529>>Garry's Hector shell has been heavily modified, making an accurate assessment impossible. The right arm is heavily reinforced, and each massive finger bears a robust boltcutting blade; some of the components look Network-origin. His optics are designed for motion-tracking and situational awareness, not precise targeting. His movements indicate extensive rewrites to his shell's drivers.
>>20535628>>Clarke gains +1 to defense/armor vs Garry's close-combat attacks.>>Consensus leans towards taking Garry hostage. Awaiting final decision.
>>20535626You just want to hand over our most valuable assets? Plus, there's no guarantee that Garry won't try and kill us anyways. These guys are basically wasteland thugs.
>>20535682That seems like the plan. We have massive bending prowess, we take him hostage, inform him to tell him men to bugger off and to let us watch the storm in peace or their leader will be quite armless.
>>20535628Lets also try to avoid his boltcutter fingers, please.
>>20535722How about we skip that part and just slag his head straight off the bat? He's heavily modded. I don't doubt he could make an effective attack on us while we have him grabbed
>>20535750Because then his buddies will turn us into swiss cheese. Taking him hostage gives us leverage over them.
>>20535750If we just kill him the rest of his men will fill us with more lead than we have internal circuitry. Also we should use one battery charge for extra strength and use our bending specialty for two attempts at grappling if possible.

>>20536257"Did you do it by tearing off it's arm with your bare hands and beating it's head in with it's own arm?"Granted, an exaggeration, but damned if it doesn't sound bad ass.
>>20536257Like a coward, no doubt. I did it with my hands, like a man. And this is how A MAN BENDS!
>>Had to delete a post. Sorry. Clarke feels all his servos and synth-muscle spasm as an electric charge surges through his shell. The jock seems to have some sort of tazer-glove over his arm.>>Clarke's turn. Spending 1 charge for Strength boost. What's your action? Clarke has 1 free arm, and can attack the human and garry, or devote all efforts to both.

>>20536297Run protocol: Take down Garry. He's the most dangerous one, and if we kill the ringleader, these bumfucks will likely scatter.
>>20536297Garry, do you hear that whirring noise in the servo on your left shoulder? That indicates to me that if I apply proper pressure perpendicular to its usual range of motion I will break it. You are currently my hostage and if you don't tell your men to leave you will find what it is like to have every single limb rendered useless and nigh impossible to repair. If you tell them to leave I will not kill you and we can go our separate ways. Do the smart thing Garry.
Can we just devote the whole round to making Garry crack? "Listen, I WAS in a good mood, and unless you don't want to donate your best parts to me, I highly suggest you pack it in, and let me watch this storm unmolested."
>>20536332The human is a LOT more solid than you expected; he must be mostly muscle and bone. He remains within the grapple, drawing his arm back for another taser strike. Clarke easily remained on his feet after the first one,>>2nd attack goes to?

The human falls to the ground, and uses one arm to steady himself. Unfortunately, that arm is the tazer-holding one, and the wet mud shorts the weapon, sending a snap of electricity back up the human's arm, completely draining the device. Garry is unfazed, though."Are you kidding? I haven't had this much fun in decades!"Garry's heavy hand closes over clarke's arm, completely encircling it, and SQUEEZES>>Rollan 14 AP 3, so -2 for armor, -1 defense, -2 for being grabbed and thrown about.
>>20536425>>Speaking of...Cindy's full-bore sprint has left her batteries near empty, but she arrives at Tulum's gates shortly after passing Garry. The Guards allow her in without issue, mostly out of spite towards the absent Resistance guards, who they know would have an absolute fit about it. They do admonish her about keeping the shotgun stowed, however, and she hurriedly jams it into a duffel bag before entering. She quickly makes her way through the tent-filled shantytown, walking past humans huddled against the rain. Even in the Tech Quarter, most people are inside. Cindy watches as a bearded old man covers up a stall, his massive palm frond hat sending sheets of rain to the ground.
Let's see if we can find us some help. Man, I hope Dwight has a gun.
>>20536672Better yet, lets hope Dwight knows a bunch of guys with guns.
>>20536591Okay we need to get to Hyacinth first and then the Roomba. Hyacinth has enough clout that if we get her on board getting enough people to help Clarke ought to be easy. I want her to get back with the group, all rushing and tired to get to Clarke in time. And they find Clarke sitting on top of a pile of broken robots and either unconscious or dead humans. "I was trying to watch the storm, they interrupted. It's good to see you again Hyacinth, isn't the lightning beautiful?"
>>20536591The first place she finds is the Affectionate Roomba, from which warm, orange light spills from the open doorway and semi-opaque plastic windows. Sticking her head in, she sees the place is rather crowded with machines and humans. Aerosmith music plays loudly, turning the various conversations into a dull roar. A stately Seraphim wearing a headscarf is in deep conversation with the hulking Ogre, while a round table covered in dice, drinks, cards, and chips hosts a massive 7-player gambling game. Cindy sees a Locust reach out and pull a stack of coins and iPods over to its corner, causing a fat human and a skinny butler to slam a fist on the table in unison. Cindy sees that Dwight is at the gaming table, but appears distracted by the human next to him, a greyhound-thin female with a red streaks in her short black hair. He theatrically mutters something to her as an aside, causing to look away, covering her mouth to hold in the laughter.
>>20536721Alright, let's say hi and hope he's got some time to make some dosh. Or at least knows some trustworthy muscle.
>>20536721Politely butt in to talk to Dwight. A robot's life is at stake here!
>>20536721Start with Dwight. Dwight, Clarke and I need your help. Clarke is back at the fork in the road, he thought that help moving the cart of loot would be needed for the rain. He sent me ahead to get people to help haul it. On the way there I saw Garry, I don't trust Garry and I think he might go after Clarke for something. Clarke is in danger.Dwight can you help me, we need people, people with guns. Anyone who can help, we can repay them with some of the loot we just got.Add as much of a frantic note into our voice as possible.
Regarding the fight with Clarke: Why haven't we given Gary's head a demonstrative yank, followed by a threat that his buddies back off or we remove the whole thing yet? You'd think that was the primary reason we even took him hostage or something. As a bargaining chip.
>>20536754Cindy waves her arms and yells "Dwight!" The way in is blocked by the press of bodies waiting out the storm, her yells drowned out by the merriment. She yells again, jumping up and down. This turns a few disinterested heads, but little else. Dwight lays down what must be a good spread of cards, only for the skinny female to lay down her own, SLIGHTLY better hand, eliciting cheers from the whole table, even dwight. "Guys? We need help. Guys? Um hello? Hello!?
Guess we go up to him and say hi.
>>20536802No, because Cindy has to come back to Clarke surrounded by the dismembered corpses of his foes. And if they actually back off, we can't do that.
>>20536754Cindy waves her arms and yells "Dwight!" The way in is blocked by the press of bodies waiting out the storm, her yells drowned out by the merriment. She yells again, jumping up and down. Dwight lays down what must be a good spread of cards, only for the skinny female to lay down her own, SLIGHTLY better hand, eliciting cheers from the whole table, even dwight. "Guys? We need help. Guys? Um hello? Hello!?"Abruptly, a gunshot breaks through the din, sending the whole room silent, except for the opening lines of "Liv'n on the Edge." Rain drips in through new hole in the roof as smoke rises from a revolver held in the three-fingered manipulator of a robot. Taking her opportunity, Cindy yells out"DWIGHT! WE NEED HELP! CLARKE MIGHT BE IN HUGE TROUBLE!"
rolled 62 = 62>>20536855"Hey Cindy. I got some more loot."
>>20536816Go up to him and let him know we need help. How suspicious was Cindy of Garry? I don't wanna metagame, but would Cindy have the urge to hustle some muscle out of fear that Garry would attack Clarke? Or was she not suspicious enough?
Dwight looks up in shock, a king of spades falling out of his sleeve, unnoticed by most."Uh...exactly what happened? Did you guys kill that thing?"
>>20536896"Yeah but there was this totes creeper bot named Garry and he had this mantis thing on him and I think he went after Clarke after I ran away and can you please help super fastly?"
>>20536896Yes, the Jotun is dead. Clarke sent me up ahead to get people to help haul some loot back through the mud, I saw Garry on the way back, I think Garry is up to something bad. He might be going after Clarke, we need to hurry.
>>20536896"NO TIME TO EXPLAIN! ROBOT LESBIAN HOOKERS! HURRY!" And then run out of the room.
>>20536880"Oh, that thing? Yeah, it's super-dead. But, Clarke's stuck out on the road with all the loot, and...there's a guy out there. Garry. I think he might be bad news. Just a hunch."A twangy, digitized voice calls out from a corner."Did You Just Say 'Garry?'"A tall machine stands, it's smoking revolver dropping to its side. It wears a soaked woolen poncho, and its inhuman head bears a pair of striking sensor spines. It fixes a red gaze on Cindy.
>>20536960Yes I said Garry. Clarke might be in danger so we need to move super fast. We need a posse.
>>20536930The poncho-wearing machine steps forward, dragging Dwight away from the table as it does so. It's voice bears an unmistakable drawl. "Totes Creeper is an accurate, if simplistic, assessment of the individual known as Garry. I believed he had already left the region this morning."
>>20536980Seconding like the fist of the north star
Just a thought, Would it be possible to mind-hack Gary while grappling? Like some sort of Ghost-in-the-Shell bullshit?
>>20537016"He was hanging around his boat just down the way when I ran into him. I've got a real bad feeling he may do something bad to my friend, Clarke."
>>20537016"Posses are not required. Dwight, you should assemble a band of teamsters to retrieve this Clarke."Dwight still looks confused. "Hoss, what's the big deal with Garry? He was friendly enough. Well, too friendly, really. but-"Hoss ignores Dwight, and directly addresses Cindy."Your friend is in significant danger, bordering on outright peril. Show me his location, miss, and be ready for a fight."
rolled 13 = 13>>20537054Let's gooo! We'll end up showing up right after Clarke has single handedly offed everyone, but eh. We might get there in time to support a little bit while he mops up.
>>20537054This guy knows what's up. Get him there ASAP.
>>20537054Lets do this. Get everyone we can, with guns. Take a truck there if possible to make it quicker.
>>20537027>>That's not possible. Not for Clarke, anyways...
"We lack functional trucks. We run. Your batteries are nearly depleted. Take this."The be-poncho'd machine throws an auxillary cell to Cindy, then raises an arm."Walter, if you please?"Nodding, the barman retrieves a huge lever-action rifle from behind the bar and heaves it through the air. Hoss catches it deftly, fitting the stock against a shoulder. He exits the bar, drawing Cindy in his wake."He possesses a sizable force of his own. I am given to understand your ally is adept at combat. The two of us will move more quickly than the others. Our chances of success are moderate."
>>20537167Adept yes, but as many as possible would be helpful. We can go ahead and buy time for reinforcements to make it to us.
Cindy and Hoss exit the bar, leaving the rest of the patrons to babble confusedly over Dwight's organizational shouts. Cindy plugs in the auxilliary battery, looking up to see Hoss already running to the gate.>>Roll Dex+Athletics to follow Hoss

rolled 5, 10, 3, 10 = 28>>20537201Let's do this.
>>20537224>>20537221Cindy easily keeps pace with Hoss, who continues to speak as he runs, interrogating Cindy about the exact conditions."Garry is known to us. his previous way of life became unsustainable some time ago, but he remains a dangerous individual. old habits die hard. I have met some of his former compatriots.">>Gotta take my leave for a moment. BRB
Is there any roll needed to use the CB radios Clarke installed?
>>20537281>>No Roll Required, but the storm is interfering with reception.Hoss and Cindy sprint together along the coast, passing the moored and abandoned boat, until they near the point where Clarke should be. Hoss slowly picks his way forward, rifle up to his optic."Prepare to run interference. Rush them at my signal."Cindy nods. "What's the signal?"Hoss doesn't look at her."A human's death."
>>20537538Shotgun out, be ready to Overclock and go shotgun Ninja on these suckers.
For all of Cindy's qualms about murder, these assholes probably deserve it.
Cindy creeps forward through the undergrowth, hearing the sounds of fighting ahead. A burst of gunfire breaks out, followed by a metal-on-metal thud.Clarke is surrounded by humans and machines, his manipulator around Garry's throat. As Cindy watches, Garry reaches up and SQUEEZES Clarke's arm, causing it to twist buckle. Clarke replies with a swift, precise strike into Garry's armpit, his other manipulator snaking in and, with a solid yank, Pulls a mass of coils and tubes free. Hyrdaulic fluid sprays everywhere, refusing to mix with the rain. Clarke's good fist pulls back and punches Garry straight in the face, just as a human looms behind him, raising a heavy axe and neck height. The human readies the swing and--his head becomes a mass of blood and bone shards.Cindy hears Clarke yell. "SURRENDER, GARRY! I JUST WANTED TO WATCH THE SLAGGING RAINSTORM!"Clarke heaves garry again, slamming him into one of the other machines, sending them both to the ground. The third machine in Garry's posse rushes forward with a heavy revolver, and-
>>20537616I love Clarke. He just wanting to watch a god damn storm and now he has to bend some people. I think it's time to introduce these guys to Mr. Shotgun. Overclock on, rush out of the bushes, Shotgun Ninja time.
>>20537616Cindy reacts with shock to the human's abrupt death, but sprints forward, taking a bead on the remaining machine.>>Roll Shotgun for cindy, +1 for suckerpunch, +1 for Overclock.

>>20537649Buckshot slams into the machine's waist, damaging enough cabling and wires to disable it. Another rifle crack results in another dead human, and the rest turn to flee. The machine on the ground desperately gets to its feet and follows, with Clarke still focused on Garry, who thrashes wildly, but is unable to properly defend himself with his bolt-cutter fist disabled.Hoss fires off two more shots, but neither one finds its mark. This leaves nothing but the crippled machine, Hoss, Cindy, Clarke, and Garry.Clarke braces himself against Garry's chest with his crippled arm, as the good one tears off a chunk of armor, exposing mechanical musculature. Garry's other hand reaches for his prized shotgun, but Clarke's foot sends it skidding through the mud.Hoss calls out. "Suspects have fled the scene. Providing assistance to Engaged Officer.">>What is Cindy's action, and what does Clarke do to/with Garry?"
Offer him one final chance to surrender. He's obviously fucked.Cindy should help hold him down.
>>20537712Cindy: Run after the fleeing enemies a short ways, shouting about how they fight like high school girls.Clarke: Forcibly disconnect Garry's quantum box. "Lights out."
>>20537712I say we rip his head off anyway, bastard. We should probably ask first though...
>>20537727Garry seems like the type of shithead to fake surrender and then try to backstab the second he's given a chance. Just kill him and be done with it.
>>20537712Cindy finishes off the crippled machine, keep the SAP intact for interrogations and so on. Clarke.I was trying to watch the storm and you interrupted me and tried to kill me. You tell me everything useful you know and the location of any caches you have and I'll make sure your death is painless.
>>20537697Don't 10s count as more than 1 success?>>20537712Cindy rushes over to see if Clarke's ok, Clarke finishes ripping off all Garry's limbs to disable him.
"Can I go watch the storm now, or are you still making this difficult?"
Garry speaks."Shit...Not like this...not like this..."Clarke distantly hears cries of "Where are you little bitches running? Come back here, you dumb whores! Your dress sense is terrible and you're all also SLUTS!" This proves sufficient to keep the humans away."I...the boat. Clarke...it was nothing personal. I just wanted...everything to be like before. It was...wonderful. Spikes on everything. Every day, a new town of squatters and refugees. I had my own car. A station wagon with those barbed...harpoons, you know. And a dog. his collar had spikes on it, too."Garry struggles to look at Clarke. "leave me, please. Weaponless, even armless, but leave me. I wasn't going to kill you. We're too rare to be killing eachother, Clarke. So few of us; there's no future."
Garry speaks again. "Keys to the boat, under the hula girl. It's all I have. Everything was in there.
>>20537801Let's give him a little spark of hope before we put him out. "No. I know where there are more. We will survive. Time will march on."
Forgive him.Drag his sorry ass back, and patch him up.
>>20537829Voting against this.Remove his box.
>>20537801Just leave him disabled in the mud, take our stuff and the boat.
>>20537829No, Garry is too untrustworthy and unstable as it is.Yank out his SAP and stow it away for safekeeping. Make sure to label it as dangerous so we don't mix it up with Ladybird's.
>>20537829Kill him. This is probably a pity ploy to backstab us.
Heh. We should pull out his Q-drive and stuff him in a desktop computer to he can at least be useful. Maybe we could donate him to a school?
>>20537801I'm sorry Garry, but I can't trust you. You tried to kill me and if I leave you like this you will threaten the safety of what I hold dear. Sleep well.Kill him, rip out the SAP, we now have a somewhat broken shell which we can sell off.
>>20537861Sir, you are a cruel, vindictive son of a bitch. I salute you.
Take out his SAP and salvage his shell his parts. He's bound to have a ton of useful military grade gear and firmware.
>>20537835Clarke glares at Garry's impassive face, one of the tripart optics cracked and dark."There is hope Garry. There is a future. Maybe you'll even see it yourself, one day."Clarke rips Garry's chassis open completely."But not for a while."With a careful, delicate yoink, Clarke pulls the robot's quantum drive from its socket. The shell becomes inert, and Clarke holds the drive high. it feels oddly cool to the touch.>>Calling it for tonight. Will return a bit tomorrow and archive, finish up saturday. Thanks to everyone; the rolls on this definitely went in an unexpected direction.
>>20537848"What's the matter, Clarke?""These labels use sub-par adhesive and have fallen off. I know longer know which one is Garry."

>>20537897Man, Clarke went fucking beast mode in CQC today, counting the JOTUN he disarmed.
>>20537897Clarke is one badass motherfucker in close combat. If you get close to him he will bend you into a pretzel. All he wanted to do was watch the storm and they just had to interrupt him. Fuck yeah, Clarke.
If we want that boat, we're going to have to get to it before the rest of Garry's crew finds where he hid the keys. Presuming the ones who were driven off are heading back to the boat.
>>20537990Might want to scout it out with the eyebot or Josephine first. Garry seems like the kind of guy to booby trap the boat.
Archived. Remember to vote!
>>20538048He might well have been lying about the keys, too. Maybe moving the hula girl blows up the boat.
>>20538071Well, there's only one way to find out...
>>20538071Admit it, we're gonna look anyway.
>>20539807Yes, but with sufficient caution. We're going to very carefully have our Eye-Bot or Josephine tie a string around the hula girl, retreat to a sufficient distance and then pull. Looting the boat will be done by Josephine as we don't want to risk booby traps. Starting the boat afterwards will be done by Josephine as well. If it is booby trapped she'll die and I won't care that much.
You know, I wonder if anyone ever got around to fiddling with man-portable directed energy weapons before the shit hit the fan.
>>20540089I think a better question is if THESE ever got made.
I wonder, did Hoss used to be cop? The way he speaks suggests so.

Next thread when?
>>20547784According to OP he's gonna continue on Saturday.
>>20545854What's the plague doctor thing?
>>20550155Don't know yet. Looks Networked; maybe a medic or a scientist? Hunched and creepy+lots of arms+doctor mask=science.
>>20550222Well from the design and the "(m)edic" and "repair" written next to it I'm sure it's in that general area. And humans wouldn't make their doctors creepy looking so Networked seems like a good guess. Unless it's for disposing of corpses or something.
>>20550288>And humans wouldn't make their doctors creepy lookingThe robot could have made the modifications itself.
I just had an interesting thought:If the opening part of the first thread is canon, Clarke 08 was actually commissioned to be built by R. Shackleford. You know, that AI that was leading the terrorist group in the Die Hard flashback. If this is true, the interactions between the two take on an interesting light.
>>20551595>Clarke, I AM YOUR FATHER!
>>20550433To an extent, sure. That thing seems like it was designed from the ground up to look like a plague doctor.
OP said that the Network bot was headless but no other damage, yah? And that the head could easily be reattached? I'm not the only one thinking we should repair and rescue dive it, right?
>>20553482I was thinking the same thing, really. And don't forget, we still have the Q-drive from that other bot who was so slagged we couldn't even identify it.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.I'm stunned, but for the first time, ever, my job will not allow me to properly run a quest in the evening. Instead, I'm pointlessly running all over. I just saw my specific schedule just now. It's terrible I'll do my best to run for a bit, and hopefully run more late tonight. Sorry dudes, I really wanted to sit down and do this properly.
>>20556313It's alright. We understand IRL shit takes preference over running a quest on an image board.
rolled 62 = 62>>20556313So you're able to run a little now? I call that fantastic. We need to thank Cindy for being so quick to bring help, and the mysterious sniper-bot for his assistance. Then we haul our loot (including all the new loot from this fight!) back to Hyacinth's. Once there I think we should get repaired, then get ready to rescue-dive the new Network SAP. This is, of course, assuming no more shit hits the fan on the way home.
>>20557076This sounds like the plan, with the addition that we shake that bot's hand. Hoss was quite a lifesaver.
>>20557076We need to investigate the boat before the goons take it.A boat would be great, and would allow us to get to the city with Joshua in a lot quicker if that's still where we're going.
>>20557170Personally, I'd rather see if the fishermen we met the other day would consider buying it off our hands once we clear it out. We did intend to meet Miguel's group on the way back to Cancun, and it'd be hard to do that on a boat.
>>20557303>We did intend to meet Miguel's group on the way back to Cancun, and it'd be hard to do that on a boat. How so? The road seems to basically follow the coast.
>>20557303I support this. Though it would be wise to stop and grab the keys on our way back. Using the eyebot. Because fuck booby traps.
>>20557404If fuel is no problem we should keep the boat if we can.
>>20558438He said he had enough fuel to cross the Atlantic so we should be good.
Carefully labeling the drive by scoring an X in the case, Clarke stands and regards Cindy as she emerges from the undergrowth."Well done aquiring assistance. We should investigate the boat before the goons return to it."You turn to address Hoss, who is carefully picking his way towards the churned-up battlefield, and thank him for his assistance."It was to my own satisfaction that I accompanied Miss Cindy. I am familiar with Garry, from some time ago. His recent actions justified my response." Hoss replies. He checks on the two human corpses, confirming the kills, and instructs the remaining, crippled robot that it had best stay crippled.Clarke looks over to the water, where the boat must be moored. You point out that the fleeing mooks may head to the boat, and you should probably see to that. Hoss agrees."Such a vehicle may be useful. Based on the information I have gathered, we must leave for Cancun soon. Much depends on you, Clarke 08."Hoss and Cindy remain behind to guard the Loot, while Clarke hobbles with Josephine over to the boat. It remains tethered to the spit of land, rocking slightly in the choppy water. Weather conditions have improved slightly; the rain has lessened to a drizzle, with minimal wind. You carefully instruct Josephine to look for a hula girl, and she nods happily. "Certainly, Mr. Clarke" Daintly, she steps on to the boat's deck. From where you stand, Clarke can see that the boat is well-kept up, cargo wrapped in tarps and heavily lashed down.
>>20560159"Welp. Hold on to your butts."
>>20560159Hold up one second, why was this dude investigating us and why has he invited himself on our expedition to Cancun?
>>20560245Well, let's ask him.
>>20560159Make sure to be behind cover in case it explodes. Check how damaged we are, we've been in a couple nasty fights.
>>20560159you hear Josephine root around in the cabin, utterly oblivious to any possibility of booby traps.>>Roll Intelligence+Drive for Josephine.Back at the killing ground, Hoss lifts Garry's empty shell into the cart, along with the looted gear from the dead humans."I first met Garry near the Texas/Mexico border, in 2103. He was under the command of a human named Nine Toes, and drove a dodge charger covered in spikes, with some sort of complicated sawblade launcher mounted on the hood."Cindy, averting her gaze from the dead humans, is shocked. "What, spikes all over?"Hoss nods. "ALL over. they were quite fashionable at the time, spikes. Look, assistance nears."He points to the road. Knuckling along is a massive Ogre, swathed in a plastic tarp to keep out the damp. Dwight and the thin young woman accompany it.

"I checked the most common locations for keys to be hidden. There was a storage compartment beneath the Hula Girl. Is there anything else i can do for you? :) "Hoss's reply to your query: "Hyacinth informed me of the data you carry. It is vital that we travel to Cancun as quickly as possible. The others must be informed."Hoss lifts a corner of his poncho to reveal a delicate etching on his chassis. It resembles the symbol for a resistor in a circuit diagram."We stand against Network, as you do. I offer my services to you, Clarke 08. Until you reach the Lieutenant, you may consider yourself under the protection of both the Free Machines and what remains of the Texas Rangers."
>>20560427"In that case, it's a pleasure to meet you. Also, I have decided on a moniker. From now on, I wish to be called Cowboy."
>>20560427Thank Hoss, inform him that we can leave after getting the stuff to town, preforming repairs and getting Ladybird up and running. >>20560466I kind of like just being Clarke, if we run into Rusty again we'll call ourself Cowboy.
>>20560427Thank you, Josephine. And you, Hoss. We shall as soon as we can, but I would very much prefer to head to Hyacinth's shop first. I need a place to install the freed Network robot Ladybug, and repair and free the Network robot in the cart. If nothing else to help serve as proof to your Lieutenant.
>>20560475We need to check on that mystery Q-drive while we're at it.
Dwight runs ahead, carefully stepping over the corpses as he begins to root through the loot."Hey, there's some nice stuff here. Intact, sealed Coke is hard to come by. And...Oooh, bourbon, the brownest of the brown liquors."Hoss offers to stand guard over the boat and perform a full inventory while you repair yourselves back in town. The huge Ogre physically lifts the cart out of the mire, dislodging Dwight in the proccess, and carries it over to firmer ground, then begins to pull it back to the city, the thin female in tow.
>>20560569"I couldn't help but wonder what worth sealed Coke would have, but then I suppose having some could mean being able to replicate it with the right ingredients. The bourbon was an obvious choice. There were also untouched cans of Monster there, but we were running out of strength to pull the cart."
>>20560504Hoss shakes his head. "It is not the unshackling process that is of immediate priority, though that is indeed quite a victory. It is the buried facility we must address. It explains much of recent events. Network's presence. the movements of the Resistance. Perform your tasks quickly. Hyacinth will assist you."
Cindy: Introduce yourself to the girl and the ogre when you get a chance.
>>20560629Clarke:Thank you for your assistance Hoss. That man interrupted my storm-watching quite violently.Cindy:Introduce ourself to the Ogre and the Girl in a very peppy upbeat fashion.
While we're in town, we need to get the most important accessory we could possibly have: A red scarf.

>>20561083Guys, I know what we should do with the scarf. See if we can get Hyacinth to embroider some of the fractals that she makes on our new scarf, I'm thinking a gold thread would accompany it well. That'll make it even better.
rolled 50 = 50>>20561916I like it! But seriously. First we need to do the new Network bot THEN Ladybird THEN repairs THEN scarf.

>>20562115I'm thinking yes, but with some modifications. Cut off the sleeves to leave our bending arms free. If they're normal length it'll be too short for our arms and look wrong and I don't think it'd look good if we extended the sleeves to match our arms.
>>20562115Nah. Scarf will be heroic enough. Something else, we should let Cindy kit herself out with whatever upgrades she wants that we can afford. She rocked some shit with her shotgun on that JOTUN. Every one of us that is going to Cancun should be kitted out for a good stomp. OH. And we need to assemble a working assault rifle from the crap ones we found.
>>20562185We ought to be able to afford it with the haul we just brought in. We're both going to want to be majorly kitted out.
rolled 73 = 73>>20562185I'm tend to be guilty of collecting NPC party members (Which is why I'm pushing the Network Bot so much. I reeeally want a blade armed ninja girl.) so we're likely going to run through our whole sum of moneys and trade items kitting out our big ole party.
>>20562185And if we have time, make some... characterful modifications to said rifle.
Cindy begins chatting up the cargo loader and its human on the way back, and Clarke lets the sound of chatter wash over him as he trudges next to Dwight."-oh, that's a really cool hoodie! Where'd you get it from? Oh, Kevlar reinforced? I've got that too!"By the time you make it back to Tulum, the rain has abated, and the people are in the process of catching up on the work they missed out on. The guards are confused and a bit leery of your return; this is WAY too much robot activity for them to be comfortable with. They're okay with machines being isolated to the tech quarter, where they can pretend they're all owned by the humans. But this...Such fears are assuaged, though, when the Ogre reaches into the cart and pulls forth a battered, blood-caked arm and shattered sensor sphere, holding them high for all to see. This elicits some confused mumbling, until someone shouts out: "El Monsturo!" A cascade of gasps and chatter passes through the crowd, and they clear in awe, allowing the procession to make its way back to the Tech quarter.Hyacinth is there, waiting for you, tools out and ready. She immediately begins rooting through the gear, and pulls out the Networked shell first. You can see her giving it a once-over.
>>20562428"the synth-muscle seems to have been twisted apart, and significant rewiring would need to be done, as well, to reattatch the head. This model is also...limited. Perfect for your rescued drive. This one...status unknown. This is a most excellent haul, Clarke and Cindy.">>Diving a Networked drive is a big undertaking. >>20562498>>20562490Wow. What the fuck is this shit? Are these things made of valves?
rolled 1, 1, 5, 1, 10, 1, 9, 10 = 38>>20562477It's 8d10 on crafts right? Thank you Hyacinth. We should prepare first before diving the drive, it is not going to be easy to fix. I think we can leave fencing the coke to Dwight, I would not be good at it.Let's get Ladybird up and running, I think a shell would be good for her.
rolled 3, 5, 7, 6, 2, 3, 8, 3 = 37Rollan
rolled 4, 1, 6, 9, 7, 6, 2, 7 = 42These rolls...
rolled 4, 7, 5, 10, 4, 5, 9, 7 = 51BRING ON THE VALVES.
rolled 1, 5, 2, 4, 9, 1, 5, 4 = 31>>20562477Fucking valves. Fucking god damn valves.
rolled 6, 6, 3, 9, 9, 6, 1, 2 = 42Yeah, TOTALLY awesome.
rolled 6, 9, 10, 5, 9, 10, 4, 4 = 57These dice clearly need to be motivated by pictures of weapons.
>>20562552Yeah, that worked.
>>20562552...I think you motivated them. Also, I have just failed captcha like twelve times in a row.Fuck.
>>20562521>>20562512>>Okay, so we're only going to pay attention to these two rolls...>>With the various rifles, clarke actually manages to salvage or replace most of their important parts. But, in a fit of malign creativity, he combines three of the remaining barrels and firing mechanisms into a triangular assembly that feeds from one oversized clip. the resulting weapon uses assault rifle rounds, and eats through ammo like a motherfucker, but is basically three guns strapped together into one gun. The recoil would normally be quite unreasonable, but Clarke can handle it easily thanks to his strength.>>Clarke has gaind TRI-LINKED ASSAULT RIFLE, which counts as a machine gun.
I think the trick to calling the dice gods changes every month or so. One month you had to do your rolls with battle shouts in Swedish, and the next month you had to sacrifice bacon on the Nocturnal Bacon Throne.
>>20562635I've found that either insulting the dice or expressing a negative prediction about what the die is going to be works a fair bit of the time.>>20562619Clarke now has Dakka, major Dakka.Scarf with golden fractal embroidery to remember Hyacinth by and getting Ladybird's SAP in the shell next.
>>20562619>Tri-linked assault rifle. There will be blood.
Together, Hyacinth and Clarke give the Hob a tune-up, Clarke replacing several faulty components, including the capacitors and some important cooling bits in the thorium reactor.Hyacinth checks out the shell's internals. It turns out that the drivers are still intact, along with some firmware. She installs Ladybird's drive carefully, and, at last, engages the power source.>>Gotta go. Sorry guys. Real life still won't leave me alone.
>>20562619So, we pretty much just recreated Duke Nukem 3D's ripper. I am pleased.
>>20562734Right at the best part, too!
COME BACK YOU METAL-FACED BASTARD
>>20562734>We will never get that scarf.
>>20562619>Roll a load of shit>You only count the good onesIt's cool that you want to give us awesome dakka and all but there's really no point in rolling if you're going to do that.
>>20565952>>20565952I wont make a habit of it. The tri-rifle thing was my best idea for a heavy weapon, and I wanted to use it. In the following srquences, rolls will be for keeps.
Just finished reading archives cant wait to participate. o-[||||]-o, you run a fantastic campaign I salute you,...motherfucker
>>20567833Oh and bump
Mate, you only need to bump about once every hour. Chill.
>>20568116Not even that. /tg/ moves slow enough that you only need to bump maybe every 4 or 5.
>>20568116>>20568445Sorry used to more faster boards i guess.
>>20568445We went 10 hours between >>20540326 and >>20543579 and didn't die. I usually just keep an eye on the catalog and bump when the thread gets down to page 9.But we're so close to autosage now I'm not sure it's worth keeping this thread anyway.
rolled 35 = 35Bump.
>>20569757Close but not there, also i would like linky to new thread in this one for all the /tg/'s that are refreshering the thread like me.
rolled 3, 9, 1, 1, 7, 5, 4, 7 = 37Bump_Rolan
