Guess who's back. We're gonna try this again.
Thread Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9VCNXROgjY

Darkness.

Nothing but darkness, all consuming, swallowing you.

You're dimly aware of your immediate surroundings, if you really pay attention. A cold rock made of silica and iron and magnesium, boring and bland. You fall back asleep, nestled deep within the middle of the rock as it hurdles through space.

Millennia pass, uneventful, as you wait, drifting in and out of hundred year naps.

Just as you're about to lose hope, you feel a shift in the asteroid. You perk up, and force a small tendril of yourself out to the edge through small cracks in the rock, peeking out to observe in your own way.

A large planet. Terrestrial. Oxygen-Nitrogen atmosphere, mostly water but with large swaths of land all over. You get excited, a planet that can sustain life! Your asteroid gets caught in its gravitational field, and as you're pulled closer you sense it. Electromagnetic radiation, all kinds, all over the spectrum. Communications! This planet has life!

Perfect, you think, as you crawl back into your asteroid. A part of you that you haven't felt in tens of thousands of years wakes, and you're consumed with a savage hunger.

How long. Has it been since the last quest? Also how long do you expect to post between anon's choosing options?
>>
>>45701205
My last twitter update for the quest was when I put up the last thread on September 2nd.

Right now I'll update as soon as a consensus is reached. Once we get some traction and get a good deal of posts, probably once every 15 minutes. 4 posts an hour seems like a good pace.

I'll start writing now. No more votes past this post, but if someone could please post after this so I don't end up triple posting that'd be great.
>>
So do we have a general plan for how to take his? Loud and fast or quiet and slow?
>>

Why not quiet and fast?

>>45701452
We can try, but those two usually don't mix together.

Based on last quest I'd say we set up shop in a Deli/butcher and gas the people who come in. But if we are going fast and quiet I'd say we head to the sewers and absorb all the poopy nutrients we could ever use!

I could see that working.

>B, Outskirts of a Large City

As the asteroid hits the atmosphere of the planet, it begins to heat up dramatically. Your form shudders as it immediately wakes up, the heat rushing through you, your cells coming out of stasis. You can feel yourself resume regenerating, nerves not felt in so long lighting up like a symphony. You hope wherever it is you land is warm and humid, that's always the best way to start on a new planet.

Lower and lower into the atmosphere, you streak across the sky. Hidden inside the asteroid, so as not to be whipped apart by the wind, you cannot see where you are, but you know when you've landed as you crash through a dense canopy of trees, plowing into the ground and finally coming to rest at the base of a large, broad canopied tree, now tilted and with half its roots exposed. The heat from the asteroid quickly burns the bark and exposed roots, and you hear the sizzling and cracking of burning sap and wood.

Slowly, you ooze from the asteroid's cracks and crevices, pooling your mass in the furrow left by the rock. You coalesce into a solid mass, and grow a single eye to take in your surroundings. Tall and short buildings in the distance, with many plumes of smoke both thick and thin, show you've landed near a city, in the forest nearby. You look around and notice for the first time how dreadfully cold it is, with snow everywhere.

You're not happy about that.

What do you do now?

A) Form a body with the mass you have
B) Infect one of the nearby trees
C) Make your way towards the city in your current form
>>
>>45701567
>B) Infect one of the nearby trees
>>
>>45701567
>A) Form a body with the mass you have
We need to be mobile and stealthy. Stalk the forest and try to find non-sentient life forms that we could emulate to perhaps aid in our stealth.

>A) Form a body with the mass you have

You decide that you need to be more mobile. This blob isn't going to get you anywhere. You concentrate, and start growing and shifting. Legs first, you remember.

How many legs?
>>
>>45701664
All of them. legs for days.
>>
>>45701609

Second.
>>
>>45701674

Not legs, tentacles, and yes- all of them.

>>
>>45701664
>>45701706
Supporting this
>>
>>45701733

It's a tie between 4 limbs and tentacles. I think it's obvious that having an infinite amount of tentacles is better.
>>
>>45701706
>>45701733

You decide on a modest number of limbs for now, and start growing and moulding the cells in your body to make them. You start with the back ones, popping and scraping as bone and sinew grow in to form two long legs not unlike a dog's, with large wide bases split into 8 toes all clawed with sharp, hooked talons. Then you focus on the front, doing the same, except this time you make the toes longer and more dextrous. With some practice, you're able to stand on your hind legs and use your front ones to manipulate objects, although it's easier to walk and run on all four.

Now, what about the rest of your body?

A) Hair
B) Scales
C) Smooth skin

You decide a smaller, more compact body is the best use of your available genetic material at this time and condense yourself into a roughly spherical shape about the size of a beach ball. You want to grow metallic scales from the meteorite, but need a way of ingesting the material.

Teeth filled horror mouth it is.

You make some effort and the front of your new body shifts and enlongates a little to accommodate a freakishly large gaping mouth full of large sharp teeth. You also grow a second eye for depth perception and position them above and to either side of your new mouth. You test your jaw, and it seems to work pretty well, so you turn around, clamp down on the meteorite, and bite a big chunk out of the rock. Chewing thoughtfully, you detect the faint tang of magnesium with a nice finishing note of iron-silicate. You absorb the minerals, and grow a coat of small, densely packed metallic scales over your entire body.

You sit for a moment, looking around, and can't help but feel adorable.

Your all consuming hunger sprouts up, and you decide to wander around the woods looking for wildlife. Best see what this planet has to offer! You bet to yourself that it's delicious.

As you wander the woods, you come to a clearing. Looking around, you can see a couple of deer nibbling on grass, some squirrels up in a tree above them, two raccoons over to one side, and what appears to be a tortoise hole next to you (not that you know what a tortoise is, you just presume something lives in that hole.)

Welp

You feel like you could probably sneak across the meadow to get to the deer, and start slinking through the taller snow drifts and tufts of dead grass. You manage to get within 5 feet of them before they notice you and get spooked. Right as they bolt, you jump at one and manage to sink your teeth into its hind quarters. With a shrill cry, it falls down squirming and fighting while the other deer run away.

You begin eating the deer with haste, as though you were a man starved to within an inch of his life. The deer slowly dies as you break its bones and tear its flesh, your form growing as you gain new genetic material and mass.

After about thirty minutes, the deer is gone, and you've doubled in size, about the size of a shopping cart.

What now?

Been here since the first game. Basically, anything we create is still part of us. Sort of like a hivemind. We can take over other organisms by various forms of infection (spores, killing them, making them drink a part of us, making out with other organisms [yeah, we did that]). We can use their biomass to make new creatures, or keep them as is and use them as sort of like mind-controlled zombies. They still act like however they acted before, just they are enslaved to us.

You decide you're still hungry, and look around. The squirrels and raccoons have run away during your feast, but you remember seeing a burrowed den on the other side of the clearing. >Y, dig up the hole

You decide the only way to find out what's inside is to start digging it up, which is exactly what you do. Using your long claws on your front legs, you start digging into the den furiously. After a few moments, you start to hear an odd angry humming sound, and dig up an odd piece of paper like material.

You ignore it and keep digging.

After a few more seconds, you feel a sharp pain in one of your front legs. You yelp and pull it back to see a very angry looking flying insect on your arm, about an inch long, repeatedly stabbing its butt into your flesh.

Then its friends show up. In the thousands. Out of the hole. They start swarming you and doing the same thing and it every place they touch you burns like acid, it HURTS. NOTHING has hurt you in a long time and it confuses you.

Your patience is bad and you should feel bad.
>>
A) Fight

As you continue to get stung, the pain increases. The confusion fades, and you become enraged. How dare this puny creature, this insignificant organism, hurt you.

Your body begins to vibrate and it stretches a little as you dig your hind legs into the ground. You stand, and begin swatting the hornets from the swarm with your arms, which begin to flatten and spread out to form paddle-like appendages as you fight to better help you combat this threat.

As you swat the hornets from the sky, your skin changes as well, and begins to react to the stings. Every time a hornet stings you, your skin opens up and engulfs the stinger, ripping it out of the hornet and killing it.

It doesn't take long, although it feels like an eternity because of the pain you haven't felt in eons, but eventually the hornets have either all died or fled. You feel like you got lucky, that this colony must have been small and hibernating for the winter.

You sit, actually winded, at the mouth of the entrance and breathe heavily through your mouth as your skin ripples and starts bubbling. Some of it starts necrotizing and sloughs off, the bone on one of your arms is exposed. It takes a while, but after about an hour your body has metabolized the toxins from the hornets and grown accustomed to it. The necrotic flesh grows back, and you straighten up, stretching, your joints popping.

You can now synthesize the Asian Giant Hornet venom.

>You sit, actually winded, at the mouth of the entrance and breathe heavily through your mouth as your skin ripples and starts bubbling. Some of it starts necrotizing and sloughs off, the bone on one of your arms is exposed.
We aren't invincible.

>>45705364
Maybe we could use SOME of our biomass to create a swarm, but we should still have a core/hive organism.
>>
>>45705415
Why we're hoping to find that queen.
>>
ok eat the hive then mutate to become the hive
>>
>>45705415
We survived though but that is a good point.

>A) See if there's anything edible in the nest

You cautiously begin to dig the nest out, and eventually manage to pull out a roughly tire sized paper hornet nest. It's mostly abandoned, now. A few hornets fly out of it at you, and you swat them away. You know organisms like this have a matriarch, so you search for her, tearing the nest apart. Unfortunately, you don't find her, and toss the destroyed pieces aside. She must have run off with the rest of the swarm.

Frustrated, you slam one of your hands into a nearby tree, and it starts buzzing. You peer into a large crack and see a nest of smaller, much more docile versions of the little fuckers that attacked you, tending combs full of a golden liquid. Intrigued, you grasp one side of the opening and tear it apart, the buzzing intensifies but they bees ultimately ignore you, considering how cold it is. You extend a single claw and pierce one of the combs, extracting some of the liquid and tasting it. It's amazing, sweet and sugary and almost floral.

You rip the nest apart and gorge yourself on the honey, bees, and larva. Their stings don't hurt nearly as much as the hornets, and they seem to kill themselves when they sting you. How considerate!

You lick honey from your hands, and glance around. It's starting to get dark.

A) Search for more food
B) Begin terraforming
C) Head for the city
>>
>>45705727
Head for the city now, also can we still mutate OP?
>>
>>45705727
D) Mutate
Form fleshy sacs on our back that can burst into tiny little insects like the ones we killed. Forgo any sort of digestive system or internal organs; they will be repurposed simply to bite and sting.
>>
we've found 2 different types of hive, we should be able to replicate it. i say we use the mass we gained from the honey and some from our current body and mutate ourselves into a hive like a 60/40 or 70/30 body/hive split
>>
>>45705727
If we can find a secluded spot to start terraforming I'd be all for it.
Rather not terraform anything right in the fucking open though.
>>
>>45705727
B Terraform
We need a solid base before we get bigger things that might decide we're tasty.

>Mutate

You decide you want to change your appearance. You like the idea of using those odd insects as a sort of swarm organism, so you hunch over and start changing your shape. You retain your mostly round appearance, but a few bulbous growths appear on your back, writhing and undulating. You test it, and the growths open down the middle, as a few dozen moderately sized flying things crawl out and start flying. Each about an inch long, with six legs tipped with sharp hooks, a double set of wings, compound eyes, menacing looking mandibles, and a long stinger.

A) Look for something else to eat
B) Begin terraforming
C) Head to the city
>>
>>45706381
Find a nice spot for terraforming.
>>
>>45706381
C) Head for the city
I'd prefer this option, but like >>45706417 said, if we are going to terraform we need to find a secluded spot.
>>
>>45706497
It's implied you'd find a good place to terraform, not just do it right there in the meadow.
>>
>>45706381
>C) Head to the city
Then terraform deep underground in the sewers and tunnel systems.
>>
>>45706381
Terraform please.
---
Also are we turning into a Tyranid? I feel like we're starting the swarm. We just need to eat fucking Row Boat and we are in.
>>
>>45706722
We are now the Tyranid. Earth shall be ours.
>>
>>45706738
Are we sure we are holy Terra?
If we're totally going Nid, I wanna eat a god damn space way to eat the UltraSmurfs!
-----
Also: We should name ourselves! I vote Nidhogg
>>
>>45706381
B) Terraform

also we must evolve our new flying things to produce more of this delicious honey, it tasted amazing and we must have more.

>B) Terraform

You decide to spend the night terraforming a part of the forest to be more suitable for you to live in. To this end, you walk deeper into the woods away from the city and eventually come across a half rotted tree with a large hole in it filled with termites. You stand on your hind legs and, with some difficulty, reach over and pull off one of your arms. You focus on it, and the bone and sinew melt and it forms a sphere of mass, which you toss into the hole. You borrow mass from the rest of your body to regrow the arm as the mass in the tree starts taking over. Small tendrils of itself start growing inside the wood and termite nest, like mycelium, as it takes over and begins metabolizing the organic material.

You bed down for the night and fall asleep as the mass of yourself continues to terraform the area.

You're awakened at dawn the next day when you can dimly sense that the mass has grown enough to link with your consciousness, forming a sort of hive mind. You look around, and grin, happy to see the area looking more like home. The trees are heavily mutated and damaged, most of them having either lost their leaves or having had them turn brown. The roots, now an intertwined mass of your own flesh, extend farther out than the canopies once did, and the whole area stinks of rotting flesh.

A) Head into the city
B) Consume more matter
C) Mutate
D) Accelerate the terraforming
>>
>>45707534
Let's head for the city.
Maybe try to eat some dogs or sneak into a Zoo? More poisons or wings or something?
>>
>>45707534
Consume some more matter, mutatation is iffy.
>>
>>45707534
>B) Consume more matter
Lets not go the route we did last time. Lets just go full extraterrestrial conquering horror this time. Build ourselves up and get dangerous, fuck stealth.
>>
>>45707534
I agree with the others.
>B) Consume more matter
>>
>>45707534
Wait, question about our little Mutant Bug Swarm things.
Since they are a part of us and we kind of just release them on command can we consume them to get some of the biomass back after they kinda play out their usefulness?
>>
>>45708021
Provided they're not destroyed, yes, they can be re-consumed.
>>
>>45708050
Interesting, very interesting.
Yeah I'll agree with Consume more matter. Let's go full fucking Nid.
>>
>Consume more matter

You decide you need to bulk up for swimsuit season, and start heading out of the terraformed clearing to find a fresh tree. You come across a nice looking spruce, and unceremoniously slam your fists into it. It takes about an hour and a half, but you manage to consume most of it. Unfortunately, you're pretty inefficient at converting cellulose in your current form, and only get about a 50% return on the mass. Still, it increases your size considerably.

A) Continue to consume matter
B) Mutate
C) Head for the city
>>
>>45708431
Let's see if we mutate into a treant nest for the swarm.Or something better.
>>
>>45708431
Can we mutate to consume matter better?
If no I say we just Consume more matter.
>>
>>45708524
Yes, but you need to find something that can consume that type of matter and eat enough of it first to understand how to mimic it
>>
>>45708557
Then Mutate, something maybe defensive or offensive.
>>
>>45708431
A) Consume, consume, and consume. I think its safe to say the next few orders will be consume. We need to get large enough before we can do anything.
>>
>B) Mutate

However I'm going to stop it here for the night.

Make sure you follow the Quest Twitter here: https://twitter.com/AssimilatorDave and I will post before putting up the new thread some time tomorrow.

Can someone archive this? That'd be great.
>>
>>45708900
Great first thread, although it started to slow down towards the end. Hopefully there will be some action next time.
>>
>>45708900
Gnite m8.
>>
>>45708927
It did slow a bit, but it IS getting late. We had 16 unique posters, though, which is pretty damn good!
>>
>>45708900
Night man, sweet glad it's coming tomorrow too.
>>
Aww. I was hoping that we would head to the city and become the sewer monster.
>>
>>45710301
soon
