You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

"Jeez, where are we going?" You whine slightly as Sam eagerly drags you along.

"C'mon, it's poker night, and I promised the guys that I'd bring you, Johnston, and Heerman along!" Sam says with a chipper grin, her grip dragging you along like a ship pulling its anchor along the sea floor. "Can't hurt to hang out with the regular non-ship guys, right?"

"Hmph. I suppose." You grumble.

"Hmmmmm, I wonder if any of them are single!" Johnston muses with a bright, enthusiastic smile.

"We're barely a couple weeks back and you're already thinking of marriage?" Heerman glances at Johnston slightly suspiciously.

"Who said I was looking for marriage~?" Johnston says sweetly.

Heerman gives a look as if she's about to spit out her own boilers.

"Y-y-yyou!" Heerman stammers and turns to you for moral support. Meanwhile, you can hear Sam snickering and doing a bad job of hiding it.

>Hey, Johnston is free to do what she likes.

"Come on!" You laugh as you slap Heerman on the back. "We've had seamen in us for YEARS. It's natural for a ship!"

"See? I knew she'd back me up!" Johnston smiles smugly.

"I think you two are going to regret this." Heerman sighs.

"Aaaah, don't worry about it!" Sam chortles. "Even though it's OFFCIALLY against regulations, plenty of the girls here have their own flings and even honest to god relationships!"

"You're kidding." Heerman blanches.

"OOOOH! WHO?" Johnston's eyes sparkles.

"Heh, yeah, I'm pretty curious about that myself." You nod, wondering if any of the other shipgirls you met so far were under that category.

"Information like that has a price!" Sam grins as she puts a finger to her lips. "Whaddya have to offer me?"

"Um, my eternal gratitude?" You say lamely.

"I'll let you touch these." Johnston points to her unnaturally thick frontal armor.

"Hmmm, that's tempting..."

"Don't encourage them, Sam." Heerman shakes her head. "I don't want them getting IDEAS-"

"Well, it's a good thing we're here"! Sam announces as she brings you in front of a rather innocuous looking building. It looked like any other of the numerous barracks buildings on the base, but this was had the distinct lack of identifying markings. Sam then casually waltzes up to the thick steel door at the front and gives it a healthy knock, her knuckles creating loud metallic rings.

"Password?" You hear a filtered speakerphone voice query.

"What?" Sam frowns as she looks up at the camera mounted above the doorway. "Since when the fuck did you guys have a password?"

"Ahaha, just kidding! Come on in!" The voice laugh as there's a loud buzz and the door slides open.

And that's when a red headed girl wearing military fatigues lunges out and picks up Sam, lifting her off the ground like a person picking up a cat.

"Damn, Sam! It feels like it's been FOREVER since I've seen you!" The red headed soldier laughs.

"It's only been three days, Red!" Sam giggles like a little girl as the red headed soldier plants Sam on her shoulders like she's giving her a piggy back ride.

"Yeah, so fuckin' forever!" Red grins. "You really should come out to the field more often! The newer guys are starting to wonder if you're really as scary as we tell them!"

"Pffffft, bitch, I only need them to respect me, not fear me." Sam rolls her eyes and then looks back at you. "Oh, right, girls, this is Red, Red, these are the rest of my bros! Hoel, Johnston, and Heerman!"

"Waitaminute... I think I've heard that name before..." You frown when it suddenly clicks together. "You were at that Wo capture mission?"

"Oh damn, she remembers!" Red gives an approving grin. "Most of the shipgirls don't even bother giving us the time of day!"

"I take it you don't like Abyssals." You continue.

"Nope! Absolutely hate 'em!" Red says, still with a smile. "Come on in!"

Red motions for all of you to file inside, where you immediately get this very homely feel. There's lots of tables and chairs scattered about, and even a large sofa, indicating lots of people frequented the area. Not to mention, there were racks up on racks of weapons of various types littered everywhere within easy reach, and a big screen TV for entertainment. What also caught your eye, was the various trophies and pictures lining the walls, depicting everything from fishing trips, helicopter rides, and all sorts of memorable moments.

But what really steals the show was the corpse of an Abyssal Destroyer displayed on the wall like a trophy fish. You could see its armor pitted and scarred from multiple bullet impacts, and a gaping breach in its side where presumably the killing blow had landed.

"One of the very first we tagged and bagged." Red says proudly, Sam still riding on her shoulders. "Section fought Vahlen tooth and nail to keep possession of it. Makes for a GREAT conversation piece, let me tell you what!"

"Hey, where is everyone?" Sam asks as she looks around. True enough, the room looked rather empty.

"Oh, Section and other guys wanted to make you girls to feel at home, so they decided to go on an ice cream run. They should be back any minute now." Red explains.

"Wait a minute." Sam frowns. "The only place you can get ice cream on this short notice is.."

"..yep." Red nods.

"Do I even want to know?" You ask curiously.

"Well, uh, due to the combination of shortages and limits on shipping, ice cream is a bit hard to come by on base." Sam explains. "There's only two possible places. First is Mulberry's pantry..."

"...which breaking into is fucking suicide." Red adds.

"Or the freezer units in one of the carriers docked here." Sam finishes.

"SLIGHTLY less suicidal." Red adds again.

Yep, still the same old Navy you knew and loved.

"So, so Red, does your squad have any cute, single guys?" Johnston leans forward, her eyes sparkling anticipation.

"Pffft, why would you want to hook up with any of those farts?" Red snorts and then leans forward with a seductive look in her eye. "I could show you girls a better time than any of them!"

"E-erm, no thanks." Heerman stammers.

"Y-yeah, not ready for that." You shake your head.

"Oh! I look forward to it, then!" Johnston give a knowing grin, causing Red to blanch, obviously not expecting her to give a positive answer.

"Haha, totally backfired on you!" Sam cackles.

"Sh-shut up!' Red's cheeks start turning the color of her nickname. "It works on the other destroyers!"

"Taffy 3 ain't like any other destroyer, bitch!" Sam boasts.

"Fine fine, point taken." Red sighs, defeated.

"Anyways, Red." Heerman takes charge of the conversation, her eyes drawn to the Abyssal trophy. "How long have you been in STRIKE-1? You seem to know your stuff."

"Heh, I was in STRIKE-1 before we were even called STRIKE-1." Red grins proudly. "Me and Section were part of the original team that made first contact with the Abyssals."

"Whoa, really?" You gasp. "Hey, hey, can you tell us about it?"

"Yeah! I wanna hear!" Johnston joins in.

"Might as well while we're waiting for everyone else." Sam grins.

"Fine fine, but I need alcohol for this." Red sighs as she sets Sam back down on her feet and grabs a bunch of beers from a a nearby cooler and sets them down on the table. She takes one for herself, pops off the top, and takes a long pull from the bottle.

"Grab a seat, all of you. This is gonna take a while. It happened years ago."

You, your sisters, and Sam all sit down on the sofa while Red grabs a chair for herself, sitting on it in reverse so she's leaning down on the back.

"Hey, HEY BOOT!"

You're snapped back to reality when the somebody slides the Blackhawk door open, letting in a bone chilling blast of cold air and snow. You can feel it, even with the thick insulating layers of your cold weather gear. One of SEALs, you haven't quite memorized all of their names yet, motions to the fast rope lines hanging off the side.

"Relax, Boot. Just remember you training and you'll be fine." Your squad leader, Section, puts a reassuring hand on your shoulder.

You brave a peek out the side of the Blackhawk. Directly down below was your target, a fishing trawler that had gone both figuratively and literally dark. No comms, no lights, and no indication of life on board. Recalling your briefing, your team was supposed to clear it. Why they were sending a SEAL team out instead of the Coast Guard, you didn't know.

And those waves looked fucking HUGE, which were in turn making the fishing boat rock back and forth. With no apparent intelligence at the controls, its movements were completely unpredictable. The wrong move could send you falling into the sea, and you heard you would last a minute in the freezing cold north pacific waters.

"Are you ready for this?" Section says as he grabs onto one of the fast rope lines.

"I'm ready, sir!" You assure him, firmly gripping the second line.

"Go go go!" Section calls out as he leaps out of the Blackhawk, controlling his descent with both his hands and feet.

You quickly follow suit, making sure you have a tight grip on the line before leaping out. Almost immediately, the wind hits you like a brick wall, causing you to swing around like a pendulum.

"Stay calm!" Section calls out from the darkness. "Use your NVGs if you have to and time your dismount!"

It's a good thing your hands are clenched around the rope, as they would be shaking uncontrollably from both the cold and anxiety. Down below, you can see the deck of the fishing trawler as it rises and lowers with the motion of the waves. You time your dismount right when the boat reaches the apex of its climb, your feet thankfully planting firmly on the deck. The rest of the squad follows as well, dropping down with a speed and grace that seemed to make your own fast rope descent seem slow and clumsy.

"All right, we do this by the book. Me and Boot will clear the bridge. The rest of you clear out the lower decks and plant charges as planned. The bird only has ten minutes worth of fuel before going bingo. so let's move fast."

The rest of the squad nods silently before scuttling off down the hatch leading to the lower decks of the boat. Meanwhile, Section motions for you to follow him as he carefully climbs the stairs to the ship's elevated bridge. Even though his rifle is raised, from his stance and posture, you can tell he's not expecting to encounter anything.

You don't even have to breach the door of the bridge, as it's already open and flapping open and closed in the wind with a loud snapping sound every time it does so. Section rushes inside, while you follow close behind, sweeping your rifle across the opposite corner. However, just how you expected, there was nothing.

"This is Section, bridge is clear."

"Acknowledged. We're planting charges. There's minor flooding down here, but that shouldn't be a problem."

"Good. Let me know when we're done." Section says. After he shuts off the radio, he gives one last look around the empty bridge.

"Too late again." You hear him seethe under his breath.

"Wait a minute, is this normal, sir?" You ask curiously. You knew you were being out of line, but you felt you had to know.

"I guess they haven't told you." Section says ruefully. "Over the past few years, ghost boats like these have been popping up, and they're starting to become more common."

"Really?" You blink.

"Yeah." Section leans against the front console and gazes out the front windows. Up in the sky, you can just vaguely see the running lights of the Blackhawk orbiting above. "It started happening over in Japan, first. Boats that were either completely abandoned, or filled with dead and mutilated remains washing up on shore. At first, people thought it was just North Korean refugees meeting bad ends, until they started popping up in Alaska, too."

"Let me guess." You frown. "Nobody knows because we've been covering it up."

"You have to understand, we have no idea what causing this." Section motions to the empty bridge. "Until we do, the US Government is content to write these off these ships as "missing"."

"Charges planted, sir."

"Got it." Section turns to you. "Time to go. I don't have to tell you that this information stays in the squad."

"G-got it." You bite your lip.

You all quickly reboard the Blackhawk, the whole process of being winched up just as hazardous and harrowing as the fast rope insertion. With everybody safely aboard, the Blackhawk begins to pull away just as the boat detonates, leaving the remains to sink below the heartless waves.

However, you're barely minutes into your return journey when your radios crackle again with a new message.

"Section." Your anonymous superior's voice buzzes. "Mission update."

"No contacts. All evidence disposed of." Section says simply. Words that he has repeated many times already.

"Well, we're getting new intel in right now." The voice reports. "It's not a boat this time. An entire town went dark."

You can feel everybody's hearts stop at those words.

"Are you sure?" Section asks grimly. "It's winter and we've got a lot of heavy weather going on right now. Maybe it's just a cut line or something."

"Alaska State Troopers sent men to investigate, and haven't gotten word back. This is officially in our territory now." The voice says. "Considering the site's close proximity to Anchorage, we cannot ignore this. Redirect to immediately."

"You heard him." Section says to the pilots. "You got the fuel?"

"Enough to get back to shore." The pilot confirms. "We we'll have to head straight back to base for refuel."

"Good. Do it." Section sighs.

"So what do you think it could be?" One of your squaddies, Chunks asks.

"Five bucks on Russians." Bubba insists. "They've been been making a fuss about reclaiming Alaska lately."

"Nah, I think it's aliens." Xray says.

"Pfffft, get the fuck outta here." Bubba snorts.

"Well, uh, I don't think what we're dealing with is strictly human." You admit.

"Well, leave it to the Boot to believe in the craziest theory." Bubba rolls his eyes.

"Hey, come on, not even Spetsnaz are this stealthy. You can't just knock over dozens of boats and then an entire damn town without a single trace!" You argue.

"Regardless, we're going to investigate." Section grunts and turns back to the pilot. "Can we do a pass over the town for recon?"

"Sorry, no can do. We're already bingo fuel, and there's a big storm system heading in." The pilot points to a large mass of dark clouds, illuminated by the moonlight. "Best I can do is drop you several clicks from the town."

"It'll have to do, then." Section sighs. "Everybody, get ready to drop."

This time, the fast rope process was much less harrowing, considering you were dropping down on solid ground instead of a rocking and out of control boat. However, you were feeling no less anxious. Whatever was out there, it was waiting for you. It's cargo delivered, the Blackhawk pulls away, heading back to base at full speed.

"All right, the town is just several clicks west." Section says. We'll split into two teams of four. I'll lead Alpha, Bravo will handle overwatch. Boot, Bubba, Xray, stick with me. Chunky, you've got Bravo."

"Yes sir." You nod. "What do we do?"

"We just got data from a U-2 overflight. Thermal imaging only." Section takes out his tablet, showing a few red splotches. "We're picking up heat readings in the town and on the docks. Whatever attacked the place might still be there."

"Shouldn't we focus on getting comms back?" Chunky asks. "Once that blizzard hits, I don't think even our gear can get a signal out."

"Maybe we should check the docks first." You suggest. "If it really is a foreign force attacking the village, the sea is their most likely infil and exfil point. We take it and we can trap them here."

"Seems like a good plan as any." Section nods. "All right, Alpha will move forward and clear the docks. Bravo, you hold position and provide overwatch support."

"You got it." Chunky nods, hefting his treasured Minimi.

You follow Section as he leads Alpha Team along the shoreline. It's not long until the blizzard hits, when you see the wall of white snow swoop forward and engulf you, drowning your vision in a swirling, white mass.

"Switch to thermals." Section grunts, putting on his IR goggles. You follow suit, and some semblance of clarity returns to the world, though only in vague black and white outlines. However, you do see a MASSIVE thermal reading up ahead.

"Is... is that an oil tanker?" You gasp.

"It looks like it just plowed straight through the dock!" Bubba observes.

"M-maybe it's a disguised transport?" Xray suggests.

"Keep moving." Section hisses. "Bravo, do you see anything?"

"Just your IR strobes. No other movement."

The four of you creep closer and closer to the beached tanker, rifles ready and sweeping in every direction for a potential threat that never materializes. Being on the left flank, you're the one closest to the water. You gaze at the black, empty void, and can't help but feel that there's something under there. Enemy divers? Fish? Just your imagination?

You shake your head. It was probably just your imagination. You turn your attention back to the docks, and your team walks up to the hull of the beached tanker. From your IR, you could see the steel hull was coated with this thin layer of liquid.

"Is it oil?" Bubba asks.

"I don't know." You press your fingers against the hull. The warmth bleeding through your glove confirms what your IR is telling you. Whatever this liquid was, it was warm.

"Doesn't smell like oil at all." Xray notes. "It... it smells kinda like blood, actually."

"No way, it's probably just the blizzard messing with your senses."

"An oil tanker not actually carrying oil." Section mumbles. "Something isn't right here..."

"Sir, I think we've wasted enough time here." You say with concern. "Maybe we should see if we can restore comms."

"Hmmmm." Section seems to stare at the tanker for a long and uncomfortable time before being shaken back to reality. "Yeah, that sounds like a good plan of action. Bravo, move up to our position. We'll be making a move to the radio station."

"Roger that." Chunky responds. "Moving forward."

"Let's move." Section hisses as he takes point, leading you further into the blizzard.

You turn your head towards the town, but in this blizzard and at this distance, there's not enough resolution to see if there's anything alive there. Everything was just too quiet, which didn't sit well with you.

"Hold up" Section stops at what looks to be a large jeep. On its side, you see the logo of the Alaskan State Police.

"Guess those troopers really did arrive." Bubba grunts. "But where did they go?"

"I see shell casings." Xray bends down. "9 mm. These guys came out shooting."

You round the corner of the jeep, and slide to a stop.

"And it didn't end well for them." You say, pointing to the large, frozen blood spatter on the side of the jeep, like somebody just threw a bucket of red paint at it.

"No bodies. Must mean they were disposed of." Section grunts. "The station isn't far. We should keep-"

And suddenly, you hear the distinctive CRACK of a rifle shot, as well as the trademark PING of a bullet hitting steel as it whizzes past your heads and into the door of the jeep. Immediately, you all hit the snow and raise your weapons.

"Put your weapons down!" You scream in the darkness. "We're US Navy SEALs! We're here to help!"

In the distance, your IR was already picking up several fuzzy blobs of heat peeking out of the windows of what you assumed to be the radio station. It was a small, squat building sitting atop a hill, with a large radio antenna tower standing behind it. Immediately, you see the doors fling open and one person stumbles out.

"Oh thank god!" You hear a man sobbing. "So you're here to rescue us?"

"Yes we are." Section steps forward. "Can you tell us what happened here?"

"Monsters... monsters!" The man sputters. "W-we tried to run but there were so many and they were so fast...."

"Monsters?" Section asks curiously.

"Fucking knew it!" Xray hisses.

"Shut up!" Bubba grunts as he elbows Xray in the side.

"W-we took shelter inside the radio station since it was on the high ground!" The survivor continues as he leads you inside.

"How many?" Section says sternly as he reaches for his first aid kit.

"Six, including me. That's all that made it up here." The survivor explains. "A-and one of the Alaska State troopers, but he's hurt really bad.

The survivor leads you past a trio of outdoorsy types, all armed with large caliber hunting rifles. They silently acknowledge your arrival before turning their attention back to their grim guard duty. Further inside, you see two women who were fretting over an Alaskan State Trooper, his right leg missing below the thigh.

"Bubba, Xray, help them secure the perimeter." Section snaps as he rushes forward with the aid kit. "Boot, get the rest of the story from him."

You turn the survivor.

"Can you tell us what happened exactly? How did these 'monsters' arrive?" You ask.

"O-o-o-on the tanker!" The survivor stammers. "They came out right after the tanker crashed!"

Your heart stops at this revelation, and you can tell the same has happened to Section.

"Chunky, what's our position right now?" Section asks quickly.

"We're at the tanker, just like you ordered, sir." Chunky says.

"Get out of there." Section says. "Get out of there NOW!"

"Sir what's-"

And then the line devolves into a series of incoherent screams and gunfire, which you can hear over the distance as well before quickly falling silent, only replaced by loud, inhuman wails.

"SHIT!" Section curses, grabbing his rifle.

"Sir, there's nothing we can for them now." You say sadly as you put a hand his shoulder.

Section's grip on his rifle tenses for a brief second before he finally lets go.

"Tell me everything you know about these things." Section growls to the survivors. "Strengths, capabilities, weaknesses, anything that can help us kill them."

"W-well." One of the women speaks up as she tightens the tourniquet on the Trooper's leg. "They don't seem to like to venture too far from the water. They can't move very fast on land, which is why I think they haven't attacked here yet.

"They're thick shelled, too." One of the woodsmen grumbles. "Need something high caliber to knock em down. For the smaller ones, a rifle is fine, but a pistol is just a pellet gun to them like those poor Troopers found out. And there's the BIG ones. You'd need a .50 at least to crack their shells."

"Sir, Bravo had all our heavy weapons." You frown. "Xray's only carrying one AT4."

"I'm aware of that." Section seethes. "How about the radio? Can we get any comms out?"

"The station is powered by a generator in the town." The first survivor explains. "It got shut down during the attack. If you want comms, you'd have to go down there and turn it back on..."

"Their blood is up now." The woodsman remarks as the inhuman shrieking continues in the distance. "They know we're still warm and alive. They'll be coming for here next."

"Sir, I think our only hope is to activate the generator and restore comms. If what these guys are saying is true, we're going to need some serious fire support." You say.

"You volunteering, Boot?" Section raises an eyebrow.

"U-um not necessarily sir. "You gulp.. "But I'll go if I have to."

"Good answer." Section sighs. "I suppose we have no choice. We're not going to get far in this blizzard, and just sitting still puts the initiative in the enemy's hands, whatever they are."

"We're ready to go, sir." Xray insists.

"Yeah, count me in, sir." Bubba joins in.

"No, you two stay behind and keep this station secure." Section shakes his head. "Restoring power would do us no good if the station gets overrun anyways. Besides, a smaller team will stand a better chance of slipping in."

"But you heard them, our M4s might not have the punch to deal with these things." You point out.

"Then we just have to be very quiet." Section gives a sad grin. "Or we hope Bravo left something behind we could use."

"I know you're not going to like it, because I don't either." You bite your lip. "B-but I think our best bet is to scavenge what we can from Bravo."

"Yeah, I know." Section sighs reluctantly. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. "Let's go."

You and Section stalk off back into the blizzard, leaving the relative safety (or at least the illusion of it) of the station. The howling of the wind and the snow continue to impede your vision, meaning you had to continue to rely on your IR goggles for vision. All around you, the trees swayed, the waves crashed against the floor, and open doors flapped wildly in the wind. You creep down the way you came, your reactions nervous and twitchy as you every little movement, every little sound could be your imminent demise.

Fortunately, you don't come across anything, or more accurately, nothing comes across you as you return to the docks. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be anything left. Just smears on the wooden decking that you don't really want to guess at what it is.

"Wait, I found something." Section kneels down and picks up a Carl Gustav recoilless rifle, one of the weapons that Bravo had been carrying with them.

"Any extra shells?" You ask.

"Just two. That makes 2 AT and 1 HE shell." Section grumbles. "Not nearly enough."

"Better than nothing." You sigh.

"Watch out!" Section hisses. "Movement!"

And that's when you see them. Horrid little creatures. Crabs the size of volkswagens, except in the place of legs, they had human warms, and where the head would be was instead a gaping mouth full of very large, very human looking teeth.

And there were a lot of them headed straight for the radio station.

"Not good." Section scowls. "We need to move fast."

"I can't authorize that, Boot." Section puts a hand on your shoulder. "That's suicide."

"Apologies sir, but I wasn't asking." You gently push Section's hand away. "Those things don't look too fast. As long as I can keep ahead of them, I think I've got a shot."

"Here, take this then." Section pushes the Carl Gustav into your arms. "You're gonna need it."

"Thanks, sir." You nod as you take the Carl Gustav and sling it around your shoulder. "Be careful."

"I should be telling YOU that." Section grunts. "Don't get yourself killed, Boot."

Oh no, you weren't going to. You had avenge Bravo, after all. Without any further word, you spring off into the night, the cold blizzard wind beating into you as you move to catch up to the monster horde. They're easy enough to see with your IR, as their body heat lights them up like Christmas trees. You load the HE round round your Carl Gustav and launch it right at the center of the mass. Your IR flares as the massive explosion as it sends the crab monsters flying in all directions.

Suddenly, the howling of the wind is replaced by a high pitched shrieking noise as the surviving monsters turn their gazes on you. Apparently, despite the darkness and the snow, they could still see you just fine.

"You want me? Come and get me, you bastards!" You scream into the wind as you fire your M4 wildly. Your gunfire doesn't do much against their thick shells, but you certainly grab their attention as they come scuttling after you, their freakish armlegs clawing through the snow.

That's right, all you had to do was lead them back to the docks, away from the radio station and the town. That should give Section the time to-

However, as you're kiting the monster horde, your intuition warns you of something else approaching, but it's too late for you to react. Whizzing out of the darkness, you catch a glimpse of what seems to be a large volleyball, if a volleyball had a mouth with a permanent sneer on it. It slams into your side like a hockey player shoulder checking you, sending you flying and tumbling through the snow. Your IR goggles are crushed by the force, blinding you as your eyes try to readjust to the darkness. You find yourself surrounded by three of those sneering orbs, hovering around you by some supernatural force.

And that's when you hear footsteps.

At the shoreline, you can see what looks to be a women. Bone white with glowing red eyes, wearing nothing but a skimpy black gown in the freezing Alaskan cold. It LOOKED human, but every instinct inside of you was screaming that it was not. Coughing what you're hoping is not blood, you scramble to your knees and notice the Carl Gustav lying in the snow, an AT shell still loaded in...

"Surprise, bitch" You mutter as you dive for the Carl Gustav, pick it up in one smooth motion, and fire. Almost immediately, the three floating skull balls swoop in between you and the woman, taking the hit instead. The skulls explode brilliantly, briefly illuminating the face of your opponent, who seems to look at your with a mix of disdain and anger. The woman continues to stride toward you as you toss the now spent Carl Gustav aside. You pull out your service sidearm and dump the entire mag into her. However, it doesn't appear to cause any damage, and she doesn't appear to have even felt the rounds impacting her at all. Before you can even load a fresh magazine, the woman whips her arm around, catching you in a brutal backhand that feels like you're getting hit by a steel pipe. Your vision explodes in starts and light as you drop to the snow again, and a heavy, heeled show presses down on your chest, slowly squeezing you flat. You struggle and squirm as you try to escape, but it feels like there's an entire damn battleship resting on your chest as her leg just won't budge. You cough and wheeze she the woman continues pressing her shoe down, cracking ribs and squeezing organs. Your vision begins to blur and fade out as you lose the ability to breathe.

Which is why you're not quite sure if that was really a ship anchor that came flying out of fog and striking the pale woman in the back of the head. However, SOMETHING distracted her, and she whips around, a massive cannon suddenly appear on her back as she scans the shrouded sea.

This gives Section enough time to swoop in and start pulling you out.

"S-sir?" You cough.

"We got through, thanks to you." Section grunts as he tries to drag you away from the danger zone. "Command's been keeping track of everything from U-2s circling above. Extraction is en route now, and B-2s not long after. We gotta get out of here before this whole area is pounded flat!"

"I think... I think there's someone else out there!" You croak. "They distracted that thing saved my life!"

"Boot, listen. I just looked at an overhead IR scan of the area. There's nothing but more of those things off the coast, it' just a massive thermal reading. We. Are. Leaving."

Section, and later Xray and Bubba, drag you to the waiting Chinook where the last remaining survivors of the town had been loaded up. You're placed in one of the first aid cots and you manage to catch a glimpse of explosions as the B-2s do their work.

"Sir..." You wheeze as you settle back into your cot. "Just... just what the hell was that out there?"

"I don't know, Boot." Section shakes his head grimly. "But I get the feeling we will, soon."

---

"And, well, that was pretty much it." Red sighs as she finishes off her third beer. "After that, the Navy covered the whole thing. The tanker provided the perfect excuse, having run aground and exploding, completely demolishing the entire village, but we all knew better."

"So... who WAS it that saved you?" You ask still curious.

"Ah, well, none other than this little scamp here!" Red laughs, ruffling Sam's hair.

"Wait, WHAT?!" You and your sisters exclaim.

"Ah, well, it's uh, not exactly common knowledge." Sam giggles. "I guess I was actually one of the first shipgirls to come back. Woke up cold as hell, found this pale ass bitch stomping down on poor Red here. Didn't really have anything that could penetrate her armor from range so I uh, improvised."

"Yeah, and then she proceeded to fuck off into the north pole for the next few months." Red rolls her eyes. "Looking for Santa or some shit."

"But that's all another story for another time!" Sam laughs a bit louder than before, drowning out Red's words. However, before you could dwell on it any further, the door opens and the remainder of STRIKE-1 pours in.

"Hey, we come bearing gifts!" Section grins as he holds up tubs of ice cream. "Better dispose of the evidence ASAP! I hope you girls like Rocky Road!"

"Fuck yeah!" You and your sisters exclaim as ice cream containers are cracked open and spoons are passed around. However, you pause when you notice Red look at a particular patch of picture son the wall, with a bit of a nostalgic... and even sad look on her face.

"Hey, are you okay?" You ask softly as you head over to her.

And there were a lot of pictures.

"The early parts, before the shipgirls came back, were the roughest." Red smiles bitterly. "Well, thanks to girls like you, that wall hasn't gotten any bigger lately."

"So why do you still fight?" You ask, your eyes drawn to the sight. "You don't have to anymore with us around, right?"

"Because, kid." Red pulls you close and gives you a little noogie. "We've never lost a shipgirl under our watch, and we're gonna make sure we keep it that way. Now let's get some fucking ice cream before these losers eat it all!"

Amen to that, you guess.
