After giving the unwieldy weapon in her hand a good twirl, Theresa returns it to his hiding place inside her cape. I already knew about her collection of stunguns and tasers and other (theoretically) nonlethal weapons, but I never would have thought that she'd have something so... murdery.

Murder.

I was doing my beat not to panic when Mina was in danger, but now I'm actually kind of calm. Even though we're all getting ready to kill someone else. I really don't like how I'm getting desensitized to this kind of thing... but I guess it -is- better than becoming a panicked gibbering mess.

But just when my dimming aversion to murder is starting to bother me, I remember that the person we're after just kidnapped my best friend. And used her body like a puppet. All to kill me.

it has no right to continue to exist

No. It doesn't.

I take Charlotte's hand.

"C'mon," I say, "let's get this over with already."

She's startled by my sudden words, but soon regains whatever is left of her composure and nods to me.

"Sorry," Charlotte says, "I'm still having some concentration issues."

I can tell.

"But you -are- right," she says, lifting me back into her arms like it's some kind of everyday thing, "that girl's lived long enough."
"...yeah," I mumble.

After adjusting me in her arms, Charlotte takes a few steps forward... but then looks back at Theresa.

"I can keep up with you just fine," Theresa says, having anticipated what Charlotte was about to ask her. "Just assume that I'm behind you two and go."
"If you say so," Charlotte replies.

And with that, Charlotte races off while holding tightly on to me.

Once again, Charlotte has that same unsettling gaze on something far ahead of us. Before long, it starts to worry me way too much so I focus on our surroundings instead. When I look to our side, I'm relieved to find that true to her word, Theresa's actually keeping pace with Charlotte's inhuman running speed.

Maybe her Branch has some kind of physical element that's letting her do that?

The neighborhood seems to be getting more and more run-down as we go along, with the number of boarded-up windows and graffiti-covered walls increasing exponentially. Just as I start to imagine what kind of violent reaction ALlison would have if she was to find out that I was in a place like this, Charlotte skids to a sudden stop.

"What's wrong?" I ask.
"I just got a Synapse," Charlotte replies. "And since Blood Witch has the same range as my Branch, that means that now she knows we're coming."

"It doesn't matter," I say. "We just need to head straight to where she is before she can come up with any plans about what to do. You can still see her, right?"

Charlotte flashes me a warm smile.

"There's a park a few blocks away from here," Charlotte replies, "I saw her walk into one of the buildings there and has yet to leave."
"Okay," I nod, "then let's get going."

Charlotte's legs start moving before I'm even able to finish my sentence.

Minutes later, the run-down buildings of this run-down area give way to a rusted chain-link fence that's surrounding a large expanse of green. This must be the park that Charlotte said that Blood Witch girl's supposed to be. Gently, Charlotte lets me down onto my own two feet and we approach the opening in the fence that serves as the "main entrance"...

"Oh?"

Just as we step through, we're met with a boy who looks like he's about my age. He seems kind of familiar, but I'm not really sure where I've seen him before.

"Look at you two, all dressed up!" he laughs. "Dunno why you're in a place like this, though... it's dangerous for two hotties like you to be wandering around by yourselves, you know?"

you are filled with conceit

do not be swayed

That's the last thing you have to be worried about. I know how much danger we're in right now and there's no way I'm about to let down my guard right now. And besides...

"We're lesbians," I say to the boy.
"Wha?" He stares at me, dumbfounded.
"Me," I stick my thumb at myself, "and her," I say, pointing to Charlotte. "We're lesbians. So you're wasting your time."

The boy breathes a long sigh and scratches his head.

"I shoulda figured," he says with a resigned look in his eyes. "So much for that..."
"Now if you don't mind," Charlotte steps between the boy and myself, "we're busy."
"With what?" he asks. "I'm pretty sure this shitty park isn't some kinda lesbian date spot..."

The word "shitty" is an understatement. The fences here are rusted, the grass is patchy and half-brown, and what passes for the flowerbed by the gate is almost completely choked out by weeds. It's like the people who pass for groundskeepers here just dump water on them so they don't end up dying and call it a day.

Needless to say, my soul of an admirer of gardens is offended.

We’re on a magical lesbian adventure! *cue creating a rainbow between her hands and then vanishing in a colorful explosion*
>>

CC could probably get away with the rainbow thing if she pretended it never happened afterwards. Too bad we're busy.
>>
>>41784487
That plan, while not serious, would not take any additional time at all. In fact it would save time because at the end they are invisible and can run away without having to deal with that pesky guy.
>>
>>41784399

"None of your business," Charlotte says, glaring at the boy. "Now get lost."
"C'mon, don't be like that!" he calls out. "Even if you two are lesbians, that doesn't mean that I couldn't at least -watch-, yanno?"

Charlotte shoots him the meanest look ever before grabbing my hand and pulling me along with her.

"I suggest you leave this place," she says to him, "Now."
"Now that was just-"

The boy's sentence is cut short by the sudden appearance of a jogger. She's wearing a sports bra and bike shorts, a lot like the kind of thing that Theresa used to wear back when she ran track.

"What's going on here?" she asks.
"..." Charlotte glances at her, "...certain pe-"

She freezes in place.

"Umm, miss?"

Charlotte glares at her with a murderous glare, then darts her head towards a terrace that's off in the distance.

"Don't think you're going to get away...!!" she growls.

"Charlotte!?" I call out, stumbling to keep up with her as she pulls me along with her.
"She's running!" Charlotte snaps back. "There!" she says, pointing at the terrace.

I don't see anything, though...

"Who's running?" the jogger calls out. Oh crap, now she's chasing after us. "What's going on, do you need help?"
"N- no, that's fine!" I shout back while smiling nervously at her. "But you might want to, uh..."

Dammit, now the guy who was hitting on us is coming this way too.

"Hey!" he calls out. "Are you two in trouble or something!?"

God damn it. We're on our way to actually KILL someone and now there's two potential witnesses who can't take a freaking hint and...

...hm, I've seen the jogger girl from somewhere too.

Two familiar people that just happen to both be near the person we're trying to murder and being nosy to boot? Yeah, this isn't suspicious.

RED FLAGS

NO SPLITTING PARTY
>>
>>41784698
So they are controlled sentries, got it.

>>41784663
>Turn invisible and have Charlotte carry you.
This should be faster and they shouldn’t know where to follow.
If they follow despite all this, it is proven that they are controlled.
>>
>>41784663

>>
Why hasn't Theresa tazed these people yet? Someone knock them out already.
>>
>>41784736
They're potentially innocent
>>
>>41784770
They are likely innocent but controlled, which means they should be knocked out before they either a) Throw themselves into lethal attacks that were meant for the controller or b) Just get damaged in the fight accidentally.
>>
......well. Subvote, I guess.

>tell her to let go and I'll catch up with her in a minute
>have her stop
>Turn invisible and have Charlotte carry you.

>>
>>41784820
>Make it look like we run another way!
It's a LOT less conspicuous than straight out turning invisible.
>>
>>41784833
Adding to my previous comment: it is also smart to avoid splitting the party when we're dealing with a Mind Controller
>>
>>41784820
>>Turn invisible and have Charlotte carry you.
>>Make it look like we run another way!
This work well together. First run the wrong way, then turn invisible, then run the right way.
>>
>>41784820
>Make it look like we run another way!
>>
>>41784770
So? That's why we're knocking them out instead of killing them.

I don't know what's going on but the jogger is 10/10. You should dump whoever and hit on her.
>>
>>41784883
You’re not crazy, but normal people often are. I would do the same: Worst case some poor folk are tazered by an invisible person. Best case: We both saved their lives and made the following fight a hell of a lot easier.
>>
>>41784883
CC is still not as pragmatic as many other PCs tend to become, so I think even stungunning them is too violent for her.
>>
Part of me is terrified that somehow CC is actually already being puppeted about and we're just seeing her fantasies play out.

Two girls going Yan for her. A fit cutey showing up out of no where. Clearly it's all a trap.

>Part of me is terrified that somehow CC is actually already being puppeted about and we're just seeing her fantasies play out.
That'd be so hot.
>>
If other Teresa could make CC forget all about Charlotte.. why didn't she? Needs to be number one on her own merits?

We didn't quiet trigger that path?
>>
>>41784962
I think it can only make people forget about the user.
>>
>>41785029
And everything relating to the user. Theresa made the cops connect her to the event they were sent to check out, so by making them forget her they also forgot why they were out there. I suspect Theresa using her power on someone like CC or Mina will make them lose HUGE chunks of their memories.

Ignoring the evil voice in my head's shouts to turn the rays of the setting sun on our pursuers, I instead take a deep breath...

...and another. And another. Crap, Charlotte pulling me like this isn't helping AT ALL with my ability to concentrate, not to mention that my stamina is absolute garbage. But even so, I manage to extend my awareness to the sea of photons that surrounds us. And once I focus my will upon them, they are mine to control.

I glance back to gauge the distance between us and our pursuers, then look ahead and reconfirm the direction that we're going. With those two things in place, I glance to the wide patch of half-dead grass that's to our right, and draw a line in the light.

Moving all of it will also affect our vision, and that's no good. But if I only affect what's in their line of sight... yeah, that's it.

>[1/?]
>>
>>41785132
Our power is so fucking awesome
>>
>>41785132

Our images... what those two people can see of us from where they are, I take that light and bend it over my line. From their perspective, we simply slightly change direction, but they fall for it.

More and more, the distance between us and that line increases. And in turn, the distance between us and what our pursuers can see of us increases. And in turn, the distance between us and our pursuers increases.

I can't help but laugh. My power might require a bit more imagination than, say, Mina's, but it's still really freaking awesome.

Soon, we reach the terrace that Charlotte's been pulling me towards and I'm finally able to release my hold on that light. It's a relief to do so, but we're still running and my lungs are starting to burn more and more...

"Charlotte?" I call out.
"There," Charlotte replies, not bothering to look back at me. "Just ahead. She was trying to escape while those two idiots were holding us back."

I squint my eyes and try to see... and yup, there she is. About halfway to the fence from here, I see a girl with long black hair running away from us at a full sprint.

"You're sure -that's- her?" I ask.

The air explodes with the sound of SO MANY crows cawing.

"I can see her through twenty pairs of eyes," Charlotte replies. "That face."

Charlotte's voice is filled with hate as she says this, but her face... she's got a full grin that's exposing her sharp fangs.

"Let go of me and catch her!" I shout to Charlotte.
"But-" Charlotte actually pauses for a second and glances back at me.
"Go!"

With a nod, she finally releases my hand. At exact second, I nearly double over as all the fatigue from exerting myself like that catches up with me, but I -am- able to muster enough strength to lift up my head so that I can keep watching Charlotte.

"...you're not about to pass out, are you?" Theresa asks, lightly placing her hand on my shoulder. She's breathing hard too, but nowhere near as bad as I am.
"No, I just need to catch my breath," I reply as I look on at Charlotte.

And she... well, without me holding her back she pretty much doubles in speed in an instant, her long legs propelling her towards the fleeing Noelle. It's almost like one of those nature documentary videos of a lion stalking its prey.

Though in this case I guess it's a -mountain- lion.
