"I'm worried we're attracting the wrong kind of people." Dorje points to some guards not too far away from him. As if he's calling them out.

The guards near the back of the room unmask themselves, and get ready to draw their weapons.
Within an instant, the heroes jump over the bar and straight into the action!

That leaves you holding two mugs of beer, with a confused look on your face. The room erupts into chaos and screaming almost instantly.

You are Tuile Di Biscotti, beautiful leader, skilled diplomat, and occasionally likes a drink. Only occasionally. You're feeling out-of-the-loop right now. Everyone is screaming and panicking, you're holding two beers, and neither of them you were intending to drink.
No no, you're not like that anymore. You're trying to break that habit, and it makes you less ladylike than Charlotte. You're not going to let that stupid cat-princess beat you at anything! Plus it's really bad for this "Barrier Magic" thing.

Your fuzzy ears twitch, and a guard comes rushing at the bar.

You smile, concentrating on the drinks in your hands. It starts as a mild pounding in your palms, and then spreads to the glasses you're holding. You aim them straight at the approaching guard like a cannon, and wait for the pressure to build up inside of the glasses.
Like a serpent, the liquid inside bursts forth and snakes its way straight into his eyes and his nostrils. He collapses onto the floor, coughing his lungs out.

You're even better than last time, and it's progress isn't slowing down. What started as something you thought would merely keep you safe when traveling with Jack now feels like second nature. It's almost scary.

Madeleine slithers back with two people in tow, Odelle and Louise. She pets Odelle on the head while she cries into Madeleine's chest.

>Go join the heroes in glorious battle, this is a good chance to test your skills
>Stay back here, keep the bar safe.
>Talk to Odelle, ask what happened.

All right by now I have to ask, where the fuck is Jack? Did that thing that Madeleine give him knock him out and she's stashed him somewhere wearing a wedding tux? I'm getting worried now.
>>
>>41102388
Oh please. Jack is probably busy helping gather people up as best he can.

That or he's goofing off after finding booze.
>>
>>41102458
Look man even if Madeleine is best scaletail I'm still worried because god damn shes been aggressive about Jack, ever since that fake bullshit fuckfest of a wedding she must have realised how many others are vying for Jack's love life and the race to be the captain's wife has begun. And Madeleine is using every trick in the book on seducing handsome roguish captains to win.

Madeleine says something to Odelle and returns to the chaos and confusion in the crowd. You notice that she still looks distraught, and that Louise is completely confused on what to do for her.

You don't blame Louise, she's like ten. How is she supposed to deal with this?

"Hey, hey." You grab Odelle into a hug and try to calm her down some more. She stiffens at your grasp, and then melts into it.

"Seriously, Odelle, what happened?"

She's silent for a minute. You almost don't notice her shivering from the vibration of the surrounding room.

Another guard gets thrown by Dorje up against the bar, Cody puts three shots in him and kicks him off into the crowd. Cody steps down off the bar and disappears into the rabble.

You keep cradling the cat-eared girl. She struggles in your grasp as she looks up at your face.
"I was almost CAUGHT." is her response. She wraps her arms around you again. Louise is seriously starting to look worried about her friend.

"Odelle." You say very plainly. You've known her since you've both been very young. She's never been very brave or strong, so you spent the better part of a day laughing when you heard she joined the knights of Gallete.

"Stop this. You're a knight now. Act like one. We're not kids anymore."

She sighs, before pulling away from you and wiping the tears from her eyes.
"You feeling better?"
"Mmm."
"Good, what are you going to do next?"

"I-I guess I'll go help."
"Great! Because I'll be right behind you."

She looks at you in almost utter disbelief,
"..Really?"
"Of course, Odelle."

"..What can you do?"
That's rude.

>Stay with me and find out.
>On second thought, I'll stay here with Louise.

She's still one of the most rational members of this quest. I seriously doubt she would go so far as to drug him and have her way with him.

Is she being more aggressive? Sure. She likes Jack and ain't afraid to show it. That isn't strange.

"Stay with me and find out." You say with a really huge grin.
She grabs your hand as you lead her out into the chaos. Maybe it's a bad idea for both of you to go out there, but at the very least you want to feel like you're being useful, too.

"AAH! WAIT! WAIIT!" A black-haired guy yells as Yuuki nearly chops his head off.
Oh, it's Bennet.

Hahah, Yuuki puffballing him like that would have been funny. Like, really funny. Maybe not for Bennet or Yuuki, but you would have had the best laugh.

You notice Odelle burying her head in your back. Which is more than a little frustrating. You wish she would just act like a knight and pretend to be threatening to the big bad guys.
Speaking of which, was there a guard right in front of you just a second ago? You don't think so.

You try not to think of it as you grab his sword with your bare hands. He tries to yank it straight from your grasp, but it shatters like gingerbread as he tries.

You feel a shard of the metal slick between your thumb and index finger. With a quick movement of your wrist, you let it fly straight at the brute that blocks your path.

He gasps suddenly before turning into a puffball and rolling across the floor. You feel a little cheated, that wasn't even remotely difficult.

You need something stronger, something a little more challenging. Also, you need to find out how that guy seemed to materialize in front of you.

Or, why the bar that was mostly regular villagers seem to have multiplying guards in it. After you cut down that one, it seems like two more immediately replaced him.
They're standing right in front of you, too. Somehow, they materialized out of nothing.

That's bad.

>Time to investigate. Hold one down and see if he will talk.
>Magically appearing guards? No way! Retreat with Odelle.
>Two more appear? That's just two more to knock down.

You know, I always wondered why everyone listens to Jack all the time, because most of the time it should be clear we have no idea what we are doing, is it because we pretend to know what we are doing? or is it everybody else gets swept up in our pace?

its basically those two things if you take charge and act like you know what your doing people just listen and fallow.

He's the captain of this crew, or at least he looks like one convincingly enough. My old man always used to tell me that looking the part is 90% of any job involving more than 2 people. You look like you know what you're doing and people will naturally assume you know what you're doing.

Two more?
Pfft.

You just know that is two more that need to be knocked down.

Quickly, you step around two citizens blocking the way and charge at them. They weren't exactly expecting you to be there, and lazily try to swing at you. Your perfect-precision punches are able to shatter the armor of one, and make the other fall back and try to fumble for his sword.

That just makes you smile. It's clear that wherever they're coming from, they're completely unaware of what is going on in this room.

One tries throwing a knife at you, which is kind of funny. You counter by taking a strand of hair from your head.

You pull the hair taught, and concentrate on it. Slowly, the strand of hair starts to glow.
With a yank, you position it directly in front of the oncoming dagger. It makes the sound of a needle being stuck into a pincushion.
The knife is suspended in mid-air, kept aloft by the strand of hair that managed to catch it.

"Hmph." You smile. This is the most unbelievable feeling that you could possibly imagine.
Your wrist flicks, whipping the knife right back at your attacker. He explodes into a puffball as one of Cody's bullets takes out another.

Cody is starting to shoot much more frequently. What started as a regular pick of the rabble has turned into a panicked ammo-dump of a worried soldier. If every one of his bullets is taking out a guard, then there's no way this place isn't completely empty yet.
Right?

>Go over and ask him what's going on.
>Less talking, more fighting! If he's shooting more, that means there's more to fight.
>Check up on Odelle. You want to see how she's holding up.

You suddenly remember something, like a tiny nagging voice at the back of your mind.
'Hey, I wonder what Louise is doing?'

You tilt your head backwards and find the answer to that yourself. She must have got bored waiting around the bar, and has started to slash wildly at anything that gets within a few feet of her. Fortunately, 'Guards' seem to fall into that category. You're suddenly extremely thankful that you had the idea of getting Odelle the hell away from her.

"Hey Odelle." You tap her on the shoulder. As you suspected, she's still gripping on for dear life with her head buried in your back.
"Mm?"

"Go stand over there with Cody, I need to pick up the pace some."

She nods before making her way over to the gunslinger. She crouches behind him as he spins around and knocks a guy unconscious with his spinning pistols alone.

Without Odelle around, you can really get started! There are things you haven't even tried yet that you want to test out!

For instance, you notice that there are at least four guards that seemed to have come out of no where. They seem to be having problems navigating the chaos. So you think you'll give them a hand.

You kneel down, and feel the coarse splinters of the floor. This floor in particular is in bad shape. Tiny thorns that would normally be blocked by shoes are protruding from every inch of its surface.

You concentrate on your hands once more, letting the feeling of the barrier run through your forearms. Thinking about the splinters, you picture them being the coarse needles of a porcupine's back.

"YEEAARGH"

That's the guard suddenly setting his foot down onto a single, solitary splinter which you had adjusted to sit upright. A chorus of yells lets you know that he wasn't the only one that felt a prick.

This is exhilarating, this is amazing, this is-

>I need to calm down, this is getting to my head.
>No, I need more, more fighting.
>I think I need to lay down for a while.

More guards appear, more guards! This is exciting! This is-

You remember what happened during training this morning. For some reason, you had a very similar feeling as to the one you have now. You realized something must have been very wrong.

You take a deep breath, and take a step back from the combat. Your head feels light, your hands feel giddy, and you have a very vile taste in the back of your mouth.

You need to take a step back.
This has happened twice from your count after you started your foray into Barrier Magic. It feels like you could just keep going, never stopping. The feeling, the 'Taste' of the barrier is intoxicating. It's even more potent than the strongest alcohol you've ever tasted.
It's had all these changes and more to your attitude, that drunken heat. It's really potent after you're done training every day, and you really hope Jack doesn't find out about it. Even the word 'heat' makes you feel uncomfortable.

For some reason, Lyn never bothered to tell you about any of these changes.

You stumble backwards and catch yourself on the bar, letting the high come down as the bar seems to swirl.
You see a guard swirl in and out of existence.
Then you see two guards seemingly appear, tearing the barrier in half as they do so.

Then it's Cody, wading through guards that shift in and out of the barrier as he smashes and shoots each one of them.

You realize that what you're seeing may not be a hallucination. These guards are somehow materializing from the other side of the barrier. Which doesn't make a lot of sense, but your head is light enough to where it makes sense in the heat of the moment.

Ugh, there's that word again.

>I can attack something on the other side of the barrier.
>I need to prevent them from coming over, forget attacking them.
>I'm just hallucinating, I need to calm down and help Cody regroup with Yuuki.

You look twice, and then blink again.

Are you going crazy? Is that feeling really that disorienting?
You're still lightheaded, your hands are still shivering, and you still feel really hot.

But no, you're certain your eyes do not deceive you. You definitely saw two guards materialize out of no where. From the 'ripples' that you could feel, they came from the other side of the barrier.

That's almost sickening to think about. Attacking from the other side of a barrier. Either they have extremely talented magicians at their disposal, or they know something that you don't.

At the very least, you can see where the only point is that they could be coming from. With a heave, you push yourself away from the bar.

You let the energy of the barrier flow through you one more time. Particularly, through your eyes. You want to see exactly what kind of trickery is happening.

Even though your head is throbbing, your eyes rest, and focus. You can see it, there's a silhouette of someone standing on the opposite side of the barrier.
With a sprint, you rush right at him. Your arms glow with power as you swat aside anything that is dumb enough to stand in your way.

That's when you reach out and grab it, that 'thing'. The thing standing on the 'other side' of the barrier.

Your hand wraps around what feels like pure space. It's something that must look absolutely unbelievable to anyone watching it. It's as if you just grabbed the very air itself.
Despite feeling it, you still have no clue how someone managed to do this. It's the work of sorcery far beyond your understanding. The only reason you're able to touch him, is because he had the dumb idea of seeing if his barrier magic was stronger than yours.

You're going to make him regret that.

You heave his entire body out of the other side, and fling him straight across the room. He stands up slowly, limping on his leg, and his eyes show a look of absolute confusion.

You know this guy, he's the guy that claimed he could control the barrier earlier. He's the guy Cody teleported away to deal with.
You thought he would be a lot more hesitant to try messing with your crew again, but apparently he isn't very smart.

"Stay back!" He yells, he starts trying to attack you like he attacked Yuuki before.

You concentrate on generating your own personal barrier, a kind of self-defense. You feel the entirety of the town's barrier leave you immediately, leaving you basking in a rainbow-colored halo of protection.

You open your eyes to see the man clenching his teeth, gripping his hands. He immediately tries vaulting over the bar to get away from you.

He doesn't make it very far, a wreckless axe meets slingshots him back toward you. You ball up your fists once more and strike him into a fluff-ball.

The number of guards in the room start to thin out as Cody works his way through them. Louise continues to happily swing her axe around.

You continue trying to concentrate on calming down, and ignoring the constant feeling of hot, heat, warm, cuddling, kissing, maybe-
No, no, NO. This is out of control. You are so happy that Jack isn't here, or you-

..Where IS Jack, anyway?

This thread lasted longer than I thought it would! I'm happy!

Also happy we got to finally play as Tuile! I originally was going to have a Tuile thread when the Madeleine thread happened, but I changed my mind at the last second so we got to have a little fun instead!

Let me know what you thought, and what you think of playing as her. We might get to do it again in the future!
