It could be said that your time spent training with Darth Greia was unusual for a Sith, but with the Sith there is no 'normal'. With the knowledge of an ancient Force cult granted to you, you've now spent weeks working with your master, helping him with his experiments.

Darth Greia is methodical to an extreme, with a seemingly limitless reserve of patience. He repeats experiments over and over, changing minute factors in hopes of influencing the outcome. Progress is slow, but you quickly begin to pick up on some of your teacher's biological wisdom.

Though the time spent in and out of the lab on Greia's flagship can become a blur, what you most remember is...

> [ ] ... a conversation you had with the Padawan you and Greia captured.
> [ ] An unexpected meeting with a familiar face from the Sith Academy.
> [ ] A surprising, deadly skirmish.
> [ ] A lesson with your teacher that you won't soon forget.

"I don't hate you." Kaitan says. The Umbaran girl's hair is messy, and it looks like she's been sleeping poorly. Her meal tray sits at the side of her cell, uneaten. When you met her on Sho'al, the bright-eyed, fiery young Jedi aspirant looked like she could take on the world. What you see now couldn't be further from that.

"Kaitan..."

"I told you, I don't hate you. A Jedi... they don't hate. They don't feel fear." She pauses, looking at her feet. Her voice falls to a whisper. "They don't believe in death."

"Kaitan, forget that 'Jedi strength' act that you're putting on. I'm here to help you, you don't need to do this any more." you say. You walk closer, and stop a foot away from the hazy, red barrier that separates you.

"You're here for me?"

"Yes." you say. "You can trust me." Over the course of your training with Darth Greia, your sense of the Force has been developing. You can't feel the ripples from around the galaxy like the Lords of the Sith can, but you can feel twinges of powerful emotion rolling off of a person.

"You always tried to make me like you. But I'm not like you - I'm weak. I couldn't avenge my master. I couldn't even fight back." She takes in a shuddering breath. "I don't hate you." Kaitan says, to you or herself. She's lying. "I won't trust you."

"Don't lie to me." you say, fixing her with your gaze. "I can feel your hatred of me." Kaitan, returns your gaze, expecting and silent. "You can avenge your parents - I know who caused this destruction."

"Who?" Her voice is flat.

"Darth Lucent ordered the attack."

"Then I really can't. How can you be around a Darth? I can feel him from everywhere on the ship, and when I'm face-to-face with him... I crumble. It all crumbles, turns to ash."

"Only darkness can defeat the darkness." You say. Greia says that too, often. Usually, he speaks of the in-fighting of the Sith, the one spectre that haunts the Empire - an undercurrent that shears away the weak.

"I won't be a Sith. I hate the Sith. They took everything from me - I want to crack their whole damn order in half!" Her voice rises, and she slams her fist against the wall.

Getting strength from the Dark Side doesn't necessarily make you a Sith.

Besides we don't like Lucent either.

"You speak a lot of absolutes, as if the Sith are all if one mind and focus. Each have their own parts to play, goals to stretch toward. I am Sith, and i had nothing to do with Darth Lucent's command, neither was my master.

It was by chance or Fate we met Kaitan, feed your hate how you will, but not without purpose or target."

"Don't be a Sith, then. You don't have to."

"That's not what your master said."

"You can wear the robes - but deep down, you don't have to be Sith. We have our own agenda - and Darth Lucent is Greia's enemy too. If you help him destroy her, I don't think he'll care what you are."

She looks at you. "I guess I'm not a Jedi, then. I hate... so much. All of this, this situation. These people around me... but it gives me something to hold on to. To keep me alive."

"Good." you say. "You can take advantage of that. I can give you what you want."

She looks at you. It's a soft, small look, like she's aware of how small she is - both of you are in the grand scheme of things. Like a grain of sand on the precipice of a waterfall.

"I will." she says. "I'll do what I need to. And I will have my revenge." And the weakness in her voice is gone.

Your master never shows any flesh. Where as many other Sith dress in robes of blood red or violet, or eschew traditional garb for even stranger things, your master wears black. His armor covers him like an exoskeleton, and colored lights flicker behind his smooth mask perpetually.

'He' is a crude and convenient term for the alien that is your master, though. One of the newer Darths, all you know is that the previous ruler of this pyramid was killed by his own experiments - without a successor. The Dark Lord raised up a nigh-unknown disciple taken from the fringes of the galaxy to the rank of 'Darth'. Controversial as this is, the newly christened Darth Greia has power to spare.

"Apprentice." he says. "I am oh so happy to see you."

"Well, we aren't lucky enough for Lucent to have died. So... I'm guessing there's a new experiment?"

"Better than an experiment - a result! I've managed to reconcile the formulas." For four days now, you've been working on the process of finding an equilibrium between the Force elixir that you can create and the Sith alchemical medicines that Greia specializes in.

"This means -"

"The power of the Sensari and the Dark Side can be married at last. With major negative side effects, unfortunately. Lucent will be fuming."

"Because with each success we have, it becomes more and more obvious to the rest of the ruling body that she's a fool."

"You mentioned side effects?"

Greia gestures to a limp body of a failed acolyte in the corner. Blood leaks from his open mouth.

"I don't get how we can use this if it kills us. I mean, can we alter the test subject beforehand, to make it work?"

Greia strokes his helm thoughtfully. "Hmm... it's not the biological part of the formula that makes it toxic. Rather, it's almost as though the Force resists this sort of tampering. I mean, there are theories about the Force having a biological component, but... no, this is good. This will work. They aren't really making Sith in the Academy nowadays anyway."

"Then what am I?" you ask.

"Are you someone who had time to truly come to an understanding of Sith philosophy? Did you No - you can't cast all Sith from one template. They're creating expendable, Force-using shock troops, and plucking a Sith from the chaff every now and then. If they aren't apprenticed to a Lord at least - well, they're barely above a Jedi. Tell me, now. Do you know the names of the ruling Sith?"

"I only learned their names at the Academy... and knowing the turnover rate, three are probably different."

Greia lets out a metallic exhalation. "You already know who I am - leader of the Pyramid of Sith Advancement. Meanwhile, Darth Lucent leads the pyramid of Assassins. I suppose I'll have to fill you in on what the rest are - our allies and rivals.

"Darth Ordon leads the Pyramid of Conquest from the front lines. When he holocalls into the meetings, you can sometimes hear the bombs falling. He's like me - you never see him without armor. I assume this is to hide the scars.

"Darth Vespa is the leader of the Pyramid of Resources - she governs mining and agriculture. An unglamorous, but necessary job, and for someone as obsessed with numbers as her, it's a perfect fit.

"Darth Judicar leads the Pyramid of Internal Security - he makes sure the conquered people and the Empire's citizens stay peaceful and pacified. A Cathar - but if you bring that up in a negative light, he'll likely use the Force to snap all your bones one by one."

As your master speaks, images flicker of their faces, one by one. Darth Ordon, with a visored helmet reminiscent of a Mandalorian. Darth Vespa, a human in her sixties with a cold, cruel expression. Darth Judicar, his yellow eyes burning with a fierce light.

"Darth Clemens leads the Pyramid of Ancient Knowledge. I... ugh. I don't even know where to start with him. And Darth Karatis leads the last Pyramid, Sith Philosophy. He manages propaganda and hunts down heretics. He's so good at mental manipulation that he can sway Lords with his powers."

"What's wrong with Darth Clemens?" you ask. The holoprojector switches to an image of his face - a man in his mid-twenties, with a lightsaber scar running down his cheek.

"Darth Clemens isn't... well, let's just say that we're lucky all five personalities he has are good at his job."

"Five?"

"He's a puppet for several ghosts... it's a long story. Suffice it to say, you can't expect short-term coherency. You have to wait for a pattern in his actions to arise."

"And are any of these our allies?"

"I believe Judicar likes the idea of a fellow alien on the Council. As for Vespa and Clemens, they don't hate us. Meanwhile, Ordon has close ties with Lucent. Darth Karatis only cares if we're loyal."

>>40932266

"About the weapon..."

"Wait a minute, Jakdal. We're getting a holocall."

No face or figure flickers on to the screen. Rather - it's an insignia. The Empire's insignia. Below it there are a string of unfamiliar Sith runes, and the Aurbesh writing "SOUND ONLY".

Darth Greia falls to one knee, and you follow suit. A reverberating baritone emits from the speaker.

"Lord Greia. You informed me that you have made headway. I expect an immediate report."

You glance towards Greia. He glances back at you, then towards the insignia.

"Inform me of your 'significant breakthrough'."

"Of course, my lord. If you will allow me to gather my data -"

"Master, may I?"

"Do so." Your teacher turns towards the emblem as you step up and begin to gather the data spikes containing the relevant files. "Dark Lord, I am pleased to inform you that this new formula not only enhances a sensitive's connection to the force tenfold, but it also is simple enough that the Sith at my command can begin mass production."

"I hope you aren't planning on glossing over any flaws, Lord Greia." At this, your Master tenses slightly. You finish downloading the data and sending it, before once again kneeling.

"No - of course not. If a person cannot touch the Force, it's nothing but a sedative. And the stress it places on someone is lethal."

"Any data on how it performs in combat?"

"No, Dark Lord."

"Then that is your next priority. Continue your work." The insignia flickers and fades. Your master untenses.

"Was that the Dark Lord?"

"Yes." Greia says. "The one that all Sith must bow to. We need to gather combat data, but if I send the orders now, then production will begin... no, we need results fast if we're to disgrace Lucent. Aha!" His mask lights up. "We will need to take a risk - but Darth Lucent and Ordon all have troops that are currently facing heavy Jedi resistance on the rimworld of Dantooine. If you were to help them implement this elixir..."

"We can end the battle and show how ineffective our enemies are."

"Yes - that's it. Apprentice, you will go to Dantooine. I suggest you make contact with Lucent's representative - Lord Veritas."

"Isn't her power base poisoned against us?"

"Lord Veritas is the exception... now then, gather your equipment and go. I will remain in contact to relay orders. And may the Force serve you."
